** Maude J. Stackhouse

MASON CITY — Maude J. Stackhouse, of 233 Seventh St. N.W., died Wednesday (March 4, 1998) at the Urbandale Healthcare Center, Urbandale.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill and Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka con-celebrating. Burial will be in the Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary beginning at 4 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Globe-Gazette Christmas Cheer Fund, in memory of Maude J. Stackhouse.

Maude J. Stackhouse was born Oct. 8 in Hampton, daughter of John and Anna (Coyle) Cunningham. She married Raymond A. Stackhouse on June 28, 1952, at Holy Family Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1989.

Maude grew up in Hampton and graduated from Mason City High School and also graduated from Northwestern College, Chicago, Ill. Her family moved to Mason City in 1915. She started working at the Globe-Gazette in 1922 in the advertising department and as promotions manager until retiring in 1969.

Maude loved spending time with the people of Mason City. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a past member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Joan of Arc Court No. 152. She served on the board of Salvation Army and of SCORE. Maude was a volunteer at Mercy and was past president of the Iowa Women's Safety Council.

Survivors include five stepchildren, Mary Smith, Denver, Colo.; Tom Stackhouse, Cedar Rapids; Mercedes Signor and her husband, Donald, Carlisle; Jean Petted and her husband, Jim, Des Moines; and R. Scott Davies and his wife, Patricia, Minneapolis, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four cousins, Helen Redberg, Sun City West, Ariz.; Irene Coyle, St. Louis, Mo.; Margaret Coyle, Mason City; and Charles Coyle, Ackley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one stepson, John Richard Stackhouse.

** Andrew 'Andy' B. Hengesteg

WINDSOR HEIGHTS — Andrew "Andy" B. Hengesteg, 78, of 1041 65th St., Windsor Heights, Iowa, died Wednesday (March 4, 1998) at the Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, of complications from a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Des Moines.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines.

Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in his memory.

Andrew Hengesteg was born in Northwood, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 34th Infantry.

He had been in Des Moines since 1946. He was the owner/operator of a pest control business and also owned Mission Billiards.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Sons of Norway.

He is survived by his wife, Marion, of Windsor Heights; two daughters, Susan Kalouner, Issaquah, Wash., and Janet Warburton, Earlham, Iowa; two sisters, Arlene Lee, Albert Lea, Minn., and Edna Dishon, Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Norance, Glenville, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

** Frances B. Johnston

MASON CITY — Frances B. Johnston, 87, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Tuesday (March 3, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services.

Frances B. Johnston was born March 13, 1910, the daughter of Ralph Lester and Mellisa Bessie (Taylor) Reab in Kensett, Iowa. Frances graduated from Kensett High School and worked for S.S. Kresge Company in Mason City.

She married William Johnston on June 2, 1929, in Mason City, Iowa.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of United Commercial Travelers and the Hawkeye Movie Club.

Her family includes one son, William R. Johnston and his wife, Betty Jane, of Flagler Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William in 1992; one daughter, Genevieve Jane Johnston; and one brother, Lester.

BUFFALO CENTER — Susan Jutting, 92, of Buffalo Center, died Thursday (March 5, 1998) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center.

MASON CITY — Jerry Wayne Dean, 54, of Mason City, died Wednesday (March 4, 1998) in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., where other arrangements are incomplete.

OSAGE — Vera C. Hickey, 89, of Osage, died Tuesday (March 3, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

Vera C. Hickey was born March 26, 1908, in Clayton County.

She is survived by one brother, Lloyd Jellum, of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister.

MASON CITY — Lucretia "Lucky" Fjone Ward, 87, of 1201 Sixth St. S.W., died Thursday (March 5, 1998) at the Willow Creek Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Clear Lake Congregational Church, 205 W. 10th Ave. N., Clear Lake.

TITONKA — John S. Rippen-trop, 83, of Titonka, died Friday (March 6, 1998) at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at the Ramsey Reformed Church, rural Titonka, with the Rev. Dennis Redeker, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. Monday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Titonka, where other arrange-ments are incomplete.

** Jerry Wayne Dean

MASON CITY — Jerry Wayne Dean, 54, of Mason City, died Wednesday (March 4, 1998) in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Arne Bergland of Trinity Luther-an Church, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Ceme-tery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Major Erick-son Funeral Home, 111 N. Penn-sylvania Ave., and until time of services on Monday.

Memorials may be given to the Jerry Wayne Dean Memorial Fund.

Jerry was born Sept. 18, 1943, in Mason City, the son of Lloyd E. and Mildred F. (Sodawasser) Dean.

He attended school here in Mason City and would later serve in the United States Army.

Jerry was retired from Curries Co., where he had worked for 20 years.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed woodwork-ing.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Dean, of Mankato, Minn.; his mother, Mildred F. Dean, of Mason City; sisters, Connie Johnson, of Mason City, Judy Addison, of Galt, Calif., and Lucy Henning and her husband, Ed, of Mason City; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, and one son.

** Virginia Mae Sorensen

CORWITH — Virginia Mae Sorensen, 76, of Corwith, died Friday (March 6, 1998) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Corwith United Methodist Church, Cor-with, with the Rev. Linda Hansen Bibb, officiating. Inter-ment will be in the East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.

RUDD — Peter William Darter, 90, of Osage, formerly of Rudd, died Thursday (March 5, 1998) at the Osage Rehabilita-tion and Health Care Center.

Funeral ser-vices will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, at Rudd Wes-leyan Church, with the Rev. John Hand and the Rev. Jerry New-land, officiat-ing. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cham-pion Funeral Home, Osage, and after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Peter was born August 20, 1907, in Iola, Kan.

He is survived by three daugh-ters, Joy Beckman, of Nora Springs; Betty Balkenende, of De Funiak Springs, Fla.; and Vera Blair, of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Roy Darter, of Welches, Ore.; four sisters, Mary Carr, Cabool, Mo.; Edith Schampnoc, St. Joseph, Mo.; Christine Chase, of Cabool, Mo.; and Peggy Sig-man, of Cabool, Mo.; three broth-ers, John Darter, of Cabool, Mo.; Paul Darter, of Cabool, Mo.; and Gene Darter, of Aurora, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

CRYSTAL LAKE — Geraldine 'Jerry' Sorenson, 79, died Saturday (March 7, 1998) at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Suetterlin officiating. Burial will take place at the Crystal Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Ewing Funeral Home, Britt, and one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the church.

** Orville E. Johnson

MASON CITY — Orville E. Johnson, 81, of 32 24th St. S.W.. died Friday (March 6, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services are tentatively planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fullerton Patterson-James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E.

SWALEDALE — George Hess, 83, of 100 Fourth St., died at his home on Saturday (March 7, 1998).

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Swaledale United Methodist with the Rev. Bruce Whittern officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield, and at the church one hour prior to services.

George Hess was born June 23, 1914, at Thornton.

He is survived by his daughters, Joyce Ladehoff, Swaledale, and Judy Chapman, Redfield; 10 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Busch, Ventura.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy.

LONE ROCK — Clarence Emil Kraft, 77, of 305 Main St., died Friday (March 6, 1998) at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Miller officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Algona. Military services at the gravesite will be performed by members of Kerr-Hammerstrom American Legion Post No. 577 of Lone Rock.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, and after 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Clarence was born November 29, 1920, at Fenton.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kraft; two daughters, Judith Ricca, Naperville, Ill., and Joy Eden, Cedar Rapids; a sister, Ruth Walker, Algona; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

BUFFALO CENTER — Susan Jutting, 92, of Buffalo Center, died Thursday (March 5, 1998) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church with the Rev. Bill Peake officiating. Burial will take place at Olena Mound Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Winter Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Susan was born Dec. 14, 1905, in Rake.

She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Smith, Mason City; her son, Eldon Jutting, Ankeny; two sisters, Stella Frerichs, Sioux City, and Lena Harms, Buffalo Center; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

TITONKA — John S. Rippentrop, 83, of 047 Second Ave. N.E., died Friday (March 6, 1998) at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ramsey Reformed Church, rural Titonka, with the Rev. Dennis Redeker officiating. Burial will be in the Ramsey Reformed Cemetery.

John was born February 14, 1915, at Titonka.

He is survived by his wife, Della Rippentrop, Titonka; a daughter, Marilyn Mentzer, Arlington, Neb.; two sisters, Irene Gray, Chili, Wis., and Iola Gray, Kanawaha; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, five brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.  

** Lucretia 'Lucky' O. Fjone Ward

MASON CITY — Lucretia 'Lucky' O. Fjone Ward, 87, of 1201 Sixth St. S.W., died Thursday (March 5, l998) at the Willow Creek Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Clear Lake Congregational Church , 205 West Tenth Ave. N., with the Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Vernon Township Cemetery, Burchinal.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and for one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Lucretia 'Lucky' Fjone Ward Memorial Fund.

Lucretia 'Lucky' O. Fjone Ward was born Oct. 22, 1910, in Randolph, S.D., the daughter of Herbert H. and Faith (Bensen) Gilman.

'Lucky' completed her education in Frederick, N.D., and moved to Iowa in 1927 where she settled on a farm southeast of Clear Lake.

She continued to farm until 1959. During those years she was an active member of the Farm Bureau.

In 1959 she moved to Clear Lake and worked as a nurse's aide at Ritter's Nursing Home.

After retiring in 1975, she tried volunteer work for RSVP, Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce, Opportunity Village and many more organizations. Lucky was also a member of the Clear Lake Congregational Church. Lucky also had time for a game of 500 or cribbage, and she loved to play bingo. She was best known for unselfish, giving nature.

She is survived by her son, John Fjone, and his wife, Marjorie, Clear Lake; three daughters, Betty Teter and her husband, Nolan, West Palm Beach, Fla., Patricia Williams, Olympia, Wash., and Jean Ellis, Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Gerald (Helen) Gilman, Beach, S.D.; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great—great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, one sister and one great-granddaughter.

RICEVILLE — Marion L. Graves, 82, died Friday (March 6, 1998) at Mission Hospital in Mission, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Riceville, with the Rev. Herschel Hawf and the Rev. Robert Fegan officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville.

Marion Graves was born November 4, 1915, in Marshall County.

Survivors include his wife, Ione, Riceville; one son, Dean Graves, Osage; three daughters, Peggy Gall of Union, Marilyn Butters, Mason City, and Jean Affeldt, State Center; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charolette Folsum, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Neva Kerr, Waterloo; and one brother, Francis Graves, Plainsfield, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

CRYSTAL LAKE — Geraldine "Jerry" Merium (Sorensen) Sorenson, 79, died Saturday (March 7,1998) at Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

Services will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, March 10, at the United Methodist Church, Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Suetterlin officiating and the Rev. Jerry Robertson assisting. Commital services will be held at the Crystal Township Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

Memorials may be given to Crystal Lake United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, and one hour prior to the services at the church. A prayer service will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Jerry was born April 7, 1918, in Moulton, the daughter of Fred and Ruby Sorensen.

She graduated from Britt High School and attended Britt Junior College.

She married Harlan Sorenson on March 8, 1929. Harlan and Jerry farmed west of Crystal Lake and later owned and operated Sorenson Hardware Store in Crystal Lake for 36 years.

Jerry's interests were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, serving the church, and she loved reading and poetry.

Survivors include her husband, Harlan Sorenson of Crystal Lake, daughter, Joan Buttjer, and her husband, La Vern, Cresco; son, Larry Sorenson, and his wife, Marianne, Mason City; grandchildren, Susan Wizer, David Sorenson, Brent Buttjer, Kimberly Cleasby, and Diana Van Hal; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Sorenson, Christopher Wiger, Austin Sorenson, Jack Buttjer; a brother, Fred Sorenson, and his wife, Mary, Topeka, Kan; and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

** George B. Dean

CLARION — George B. Dean, 69, of Lake Cornelia, Clarion, died Friday (March 6, 1998) at home Friday.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, with the Rev. Curt Miner officiating. His ashes will be scattered by his family as was his wish.

OSAGE — Mrs. William (Karen F.) Fox, 59, of Golf Course Road, died Saturday (March 7, 1998) at home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Philip Recker officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will take place at a later date in the Orchard Cemetery, Orchard.

Visitation begins after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday; a rosary at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. at Champion Funeral Home.

Karen was born June 29, 1938, in Osage, the daughter of C. Edward and Marion (Mark) Fink.

She grew up in the Orchard area attending Orchard schools.

Karen married William J. Fox on October 8, 1955, in Osage. They lived in many areas of the United States, but resided primarily in southern California. In 1988 they returned to their home town of Osage.

Karen enjoyed gardening, crafts, doll houses, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Karen is survived by her mother, Marion Fink, Osage; her husband, William J. Fox, Osage; three daughters, Dorian Derse and her husband, John, and their children, Katie and Emily, Palmdale, Calif.; Mary Morris and her husband, Brian, and their children, David and Christopher, Dripping Springs, Texas; Lisa Razevich and her husband, Matt, and their children, Travis, Voni, and Matty, Lake Elizabeth, Calif.; two sons, Douglas Fox, Virginia Beach, Va., and Richard Fox and children, Rick, Jr. and Alyssa, Lancaster, Calif.; two sisters, Sharon Johnson, and her husband, Dick, Boone, and Marcia Mullen, Osage; and many nieces and nephews.

SWALEDALE — George Hess, 83, of 100 Fourth St., died at his home on Saturday (March 7, 1998).

George Hess was born June 23, 1914, at Thornton and attended school at the Thornton and Swaledale schools.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Miller and they resided in Swaledale.

George operated a grocery store and shoe repair shop in Swaledale, and he also ran a gas station. Later he worked for the County of Cerro Gordo.

He enjoyed raising his cats and chickens and showed prize chickens at many poultry shows.

George had a sharp memory of the past and enjoyed sharing events with his children.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Swaledale and the National Poultry Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Ladehoff and her husband, Bob, Swaledale, and Judy Chapman and her husband, Harold, Redfield; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Busch, Ventura; a nephew, Craig Busch and his wife, Diane, Ventura; and a niece, Priscilla Mayland and her husband, Rick, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy.

MASON CITY — Orville E. Johnson, 81, of 32 24th St. S.W. died Friday (March 10, 1998) at his home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fullerton Patterson-James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. The Rev. Sharon Betsworth of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. At 7p.m. today a Moose Memorial service will be held in the funeral chapel.

Orville was born on September 8, 1916, in Rockwell, the son of Ethan Edward and Edna (Barnhill) Johnson.

He attended school in Mason City and then farmed with his grandfather.

For five years he worked for J.B. Decker and Son Meat Packing Plant and then at the Northwestern Portland Cement Plant. He was foreman of the kilns for 37 1/2 years, retiring in 1988.

Orville was united in marriage to Orla Lee Bailey on November 10, 1939, in rural Mason City.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing with his son, hunting pheasants, rabbits and squirrels, and dancing to big band and country western music at the VFW every Saturday night.

Orville was a member of the Moose Lodge #1328 in Mason City and the First United Methodist Church.

Orville is survived by his wife of 58 years, Orla, Mason City; two daughters, Audrey and her husband, John Moor, Clear Lake, and Janice and her husband, Dwayne Groat, Port Orchard, Wash.; one son, Ronald, and his wife Vanetta Johnson Sr., Mason City; one sister, Marvel Pickens, Culver City, Calif; two brothers, Glen and his wife Gladys, Clear Lake, and Floyd and his wife Mary, Mason City; nine grandchildren, Ron Johnson Jr., Tom and James Johnson, JoDee Lomholt, Sara and Robert Moor, Michael and Todd Wernet, and Mardell Blevins, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Audrey, and an infant brother, Robert Johnson.

** Mary Ellen Burgess

MASON CITY — Mary Ellen Burgess, whose career as an elementary and junior high school teacher in Mason City at Monroe and Wilson schools and at Clear Lake schools, spanned more than four decades, died of infirmities Saturday night (March 7, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center. She was 97 years old.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Burgess was born Aug. 28, 1900, the daughter of Martin P. and Julia (Crapser) Lydon. A native of Cresco, she attended Assumption High School, and later graduated from the University of Nebraska, and also had post graduate study at the Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls before beginning her long teaching career. Former pupils remember her as providing "a little extra love, a little extra attention," as some of them put it.

On May 15, 1943, she married Ray D. Burgess at Elk River, Minn.

Mrs. Burgess, who had lived at Good Shepherd for several years, was a member of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority at the University of Nebraska, and also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi and the Alpha Delta Kappa sororities. Besides her love of teaching, she had helped her late husband, Ray Burgess, manage the old Cerro Gordo Hotel in Mason City in the late 1950s and 1960s. Prior to that, they managed the Kenyon Hotel in Kenyon, Minn.

Her last teaching assignment was at Hoover Elementary School in Mason City, where she retired in the 1960s.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret F. Nichols, of Washington, D.C.; also numerous nieces and nephews, including Tom Lydon of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray, on Aug. 16, 1974; and six siblings.

** Rosalea C. Pitzen

OSAGE — Rosalea C. Pitzen, 95, died Sunday (March 8, 1998) at her home.

DES MOINES — Miss Ellen Ried, 86, of 4128 N.W. Blvd., died Sunday (March 8, 1998) at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church, Des Moines. Burial will be at the Glendale Cemetery.

There is also a memorial service at 7 p.m. today at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Davenport.

Visitation for the public will be held one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the First Assembly of God Church, Des Moines. Family visitation will be held at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Ellen Ried was born June 11, 1911, in Omaha, Neb., to Carl and Marie (Peterson) Ried.

She grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1928. She entered Iowa Methodist Hospital for nurses training and graduated three years later.

She worked at the Grinnell Hospital for three years then moved to Des Moines where she did private duty nursing for more than 20 years. During this time she had many interesting cases.

Ellen successfully applied for the position of Public Health nurse for Polk County and worked for four years as a Public Health nurse.

A friend persuaded Ellen to go to California and she accepted a job with the Los Angeles County Health Department. She retired as a public health nurse after 20 years in California's San Fernando Valley.

She was last employed as a registered nurse at Wesley Acres, Des Moines, for three years after her retirement.

Ellen returned to Iowa in the early 1960s, spending about five years in Mason City and then moving to Des Moines. She moved to Ridgecrest Health Center, Davenport, in 1996.

Ellen was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Iowa Methodist Nurse's Club and Senior Primetimes.

She is survived by her brother, Donald Ried, Lakeview, and nieces and

MASON CITY — The funeral service for Lucretia "Lucky" O. Fjone Ward, 87, of 1201 Sixth St. S.W., will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Clear Lake Congregational Church, 205 West Tenth Ave. N.

BRIGHTON, Colo. — Gary G. Greiman, 51, died Thursday (March 5, 1998) in Denver, Colorado.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Henderson Congregational Church, Brighton. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Windsor.

Gary was born Jan. 27, 1947, in Garner, to Ronald and Leona (Peterson) Greiman. He was raised on the family farm in Iowa.

He moved from Ft. Collins to Brighton in 1990. He worked for the State of Colorado as Brand Inspector since 1984. He managed various feedlots throughout the Front Range of Northern Colorado.

He took enormous pride in hard work and in non-materialistic values. He loved to play the guitar and sing country western. He enjoyed roping and showing steers and was quite successful at both. He especially enjoyed feeding the birds with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Henderson Congregational church.

He is survived by his wife, Margo Greiman, Brighton, Colo.; his mother, Leona Greiman, Garner; three sons, Chad Greiman, Windsor, Colo., Casey Greiman, Windsor, Colo., and Cody Greiman, Brighton, Colo.; two daughters, Keli (Matt) Sharpee, Windsor, Colo., and Lori (Frank) Pedersen, Windsor, Colo.; two brothers, Allan Greiman, Waverly, and Todd Greiman, Garner; two sisters, Rhonda Schuver, Belmond, and Rhoda Thompson, Belmond; and four grandchildren, Morgan, Tayler, Lane and Meghan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald, in June of 1997.
