Robert Henry Pederson

NORA SPRINGS — Robert Henry Pederson, 68, of 202 Third St. N.W., died Monday (Nov 24, 1997) at his home in Mesa, Ariz.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 North Hawkeye St., with the Rev. Ruth Hanson officiating. Inurnment will be in Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Nora Springs American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye St.

Robert Henry Pederson was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Mason City, son of Sever and Mildred (Osnes) Pederson. He married Emelia Irene Oakland on Oct. 20, 1950, at Fertile Lutheran Church.

Robert served in the Navy and was stationed in California from 1950 to 1954. In 1960, he moved to Nora Springs and purchased Hawkeye Lanes Bowling Alley. Later, he went back into the construction business and became a partner in North Iowa Construction until 1984 when he retired.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing and woodworking. He spent his winters in Las Vegas, Nev., and Mesa, Ariz. Robert was a member of the American Legion and St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Survivors include four children, Robert E. "Hutch" Pederson and his wife, Lisa, Cornell; Brad Pederson and his wife, Connie, Osage; Brian Pederson and his wife, Vicki, Nora Springs, and Jane O'Rourke and her husband, Patrick, Fort Dodge; 12 grandchildren, Kristin Pederson, Teresa Coats, Cassie, B.J., Chrissy and Sam Pederson, Brodie, Emily and Callie Pederson, and Ryan, Andrea and Mila O'Rourke; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Coats, Rhett Pederson, Ty Coats and Gunnar Chesnik; one sister, LaVonne Kraft and her husband, Duane, Tacoma, Wash.; three brothers, Stanley Pederson and his wife, Phyllis, Lake Mills; Sever Jr. Pederson and his wife, Vonnie, Westland, Mich., and Bert Pederson and his wife, Becky, Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Emelia.

 

Martha Borcherding

LATIMER — Martha Borcherding, 90, of Latimer, died Monday (Nov. 24, 1997) at the Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Willim Funeral Home.

Martha Borcherding was born Sept. 15, 1907, in Lincoln Township, Iowa County.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen Pralle of Latimer; one son, James L. Borcherding of Belmond; one sister, Anna Woher of Marengo; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, three sisters and one grandchild.

 

Fred Wirtz

WEST BEND — Fred Wirtz, 91, of West Bend, died Sunday (Nov. 23, 1997) at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Apostolic Christian Church, with the church ministers officiating. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Schellhammer-Harris Funeral Home.

Fred Wirtz, the son of Jacob and Anna Loder Wirtz, was born Feb. 3, 1906, in Baradero, Argentina. As a small child he came to America with his parents and siblings on a ship. He attended the West Bend Consolidated School, leaving school in the seventh grade to help support his family. As a young man he worked as a farmhand near West Bend and Winthrop, Minn. He returned to West Bend, and on May 24, 1936, he married Hulda Marie Fehr. To this union 10 children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Wirtz farmed near West Bend until retiring in 1977, when they moved into West Bend.

Fred was very involved in community service. He served on the West Bend School Board for many years and later the county school board. He was also a Palo Alto County Supervisor for many years. Fred loved music, his family and his church. He had a beautiful tenor voice and wrote several songs. He was happiest when his family was home together. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in West Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Hulda, of West Bend; 10 children, Mary (Ted) Besch of Storm Lake; Esther (Les) Frieden of West Bend; John (Ella) Wirtz of Fort Dodge; Eli (Marilyn) Wirtz of Urabndale; Al (Wendy) Wirtz of Gilbert, Ariz.; Lori Wirtz of Kearny, Ariz.; Luanne (Chuck) Collins of Plano, Texas; Irene (Alan) Blair of Humboldt; Aaron (Peg) Wirtz of Belmond; and Fred Jr. (Patsy) Wirtz of West Bend; 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edwin Wirtz of Mallard, Paul Wirtz of Crystal Lake, and Verner Wirtz of West Bend; and sisters, Lydia Edwards of West Bend, and Adeline Spencer of Hanlontown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Anita, Celina and Lena; a brother, Alfred; and one grandson, James Wirtz.

 

Waylen Chace Bonte

KLEMME — Waylen Chace Bonte, 17, of Klemme, died Monday (Nov. 24, 1997) from injuries suffered in a car accident. He was born Feb. 11, 1980, in Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Tenold Funeral Home.

Survivors include his mother, Pam Gifford of Kanawha; his father, Russ Bonte of Klemme; one sister, Jessie Bonte of Meservey; one brother, Ryan Bonte of Mason City; paternal grandmother, Doris Bonte of Belmond; and maternal grandparents, Pat and Dora Ann "Mikey" Quigley of Belmond.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather.

 

Joseph C. Kempf

MASON CITY — Joseph C. Kempf, 66, of 4 S. Willowgreen Court, died Monday (Nov 24, 1997) at Sarasota, Fla.

Philip Schmidt

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Philip Schmidt, 86, of San Jose, Calif., died Sunday (Nov. 23, 1997) at home.

Funeral services will be later next week in Mason City. Major Erickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A. E. ‘Ed’ Nelson

CLEAR LAKE — A. E. "Ed" Nelson, 90, of 1603 Meadowbrook Drive, Mason City, formerly of Clear Lake, passed away on Tuesday (Nov. 25, 1997) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, where he had resided since last year.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Ed’s family asks that memorials be directed to the A. E. Nelson Memorial Fund.

Andrew Edgeston Nelson was born on Feb. 14, 1907, at Clarion, the son of Nels and Grace (Barnes) Nelson.

He was raised in Ventura where he graduated from high school, and completed both Radio and Electrical Technical Schooling at Coyne Electric in Chicago in 1930.

Ed served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Lois E. Smith in 1936. After Lois’ death in 1978, he married Dixie Paulson on Feb. 24, 1979, at Mason City.

Ed was in the telephone business for about 35 years, 25 of which were as owner and manager of the Ventura Independent Telephone Company and later as an employee of the Clear Lake Telephone Company.

Ed was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, the Ventura Evening Lions Club, the Ventura Volunteer Firemen, a lifetime member of Independent Telephone Pioneer Association, president of the Clear Lake Sanitary District from 1975 to 1994, and on the board of the Sanitary District from 1968 to 1996. For many years he was a member of the Cerro Gordo County Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Clear Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Nelson, Mason City; one daughter, Jane Nelson, Cedar Rapids; two sons, Roland Nelson and his wife, Kathy, Mason City; and Robert Nelson and his wife, Carol, Memphis, Tenn.; two grandsons, Andrew and Peter; and a special niece, Juanita Cooper, Manly; and a caring friend, Gloria Krominga, Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his first wife.

Orville O. Bequette

MASON CITY — Orville O. Bequette, 73, of 1226 N. Virginia Ave., died Tuesday (Nov. 25, 1997) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Alvin Truman Johnson

NORTHWOOD — Alvin Truman Johnson, 89, of Northwood, died Tuesday (Nov. 25, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. (Sam) Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Kensett.

Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

Alvin Truman Johnson, was born on June 11, 1908, the son of William and Mary (Roslien) Johnson in Ransom County, N.D. near Lisbon.

He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation in the Lutheran faith in North Dakota.

Alvin's mother passed away when he was three year old and he came to Kensett, Iowa, to be taken care of by his grandparents.

He lived in Iowa for three years and returned to North Dakota where he attended and received his education in the Lisbon public schools. He came to the Kensett area in 1925 and worked as a farm hand for various farmers and also with road construction.

He was united in marriage to Amey Anderson on March 23, 1941, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church. After their marriage together, they farmed in the Kensett area for 35 years, until his retirement in 1976. After his retirement they continued living on the farm until 1982, when they moved to Northwood.

He loved to farm, was a hard worker and also enjoyed feeding the birds.

Alvin was an active communicant member at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church and also served on the church council and the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery board.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Amey Johnson, of Northwood; one daughter, Verna Kittleson, of Bettendorf; two granddaughters, Andrea Raiford and her husband, Paul, of Mt. Laurel, N.J., and Michelle Weeks and her husband, David, of Charlotte, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Charlie and Caroline Raiford and Elizabeth Weeks; several nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

 

Doris McGuire Evans

HARBOR, Ore. — Doris Anne Evans, 86, of Harbor, Ore., formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at Vancouver, Wash.

At her request, no services will be held. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Vancouver Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, Wash.

Doris Huey was born on Aug. 16, 1910, in Clear Lake, Iowa. She married Art McGuire in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1968.

She moved to Washington and married Willard Evans in 1974. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Doris moved to Brookings, Ore., where she resided until her death.

Survivors include one sister, Patsy Gibb, of Willow Grove, Pa.; and two brothers, Pete Huey, Clear Lake, and Darwin Huey, of Omaha, Neb.

 

Mary Lou Hemrich

EDINA, Minn. — Mary Lou Hemrich, R.N., 61, of Edina, Minn., died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at N.C. Little Hospice, Edina, of a malignancy.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Richard's Catholic Church, 7540 Penn Ave. S., Richfield, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Haven. Inurnment will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to N.C. Little Hospice, or American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina, Minn. 55435.

Mary Lou Hemrich was born Jan. 22, 1936, in Osage, Iowa, to Ben and Rena Hemrich.

Survivors include brother, Joe Hemrich, Grundy Center; sisters, Kay O'Neill, Charlotte, N.C.; Mildred Hatten, Winooski, Vt.; and Dorothy Elwood, Austin, Texas; and brother, Jerry Hemrich, Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Adeline Nees; brothers, Everett and Ron Hemrich.

 

Blanche N. Price

CHARLES CITY — Blanche N. Price, 100, of Charles City, died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with friends being greeted from 3 to 5 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, where other arrangements are incomplete.

CLEAR LAKE — Juanita M. Burns, 91, of 117 Fairway Drive, Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey of First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, where other arrangements are incomplete.

 

 

Brian Halsne

THORNTON — Brian Halsne, 24, of 308 N. Fourth St., died Tuesday night (Nov. 24, 1997), from injuries suffered in a one car accident near Swaledale.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the United Methodist Church, Thornton, with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Brian was born on Aug. 28, 1973, to Richard and Linda (Schmitz) Halsne, in Mason City. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church, in Thornton.

Brian graduated from Sheffield/Chapin-Meservey/Thornton High School in 1991.

He worked for R & R Towing in Swaledale and more recently was employed by the Thornton Co-op.

Brian thoroughly enjoyed cars, working on them and watching racing at the I-35 Speedway. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and loved to golf, bowl, play pool, and darts.

Brian was always willing to help anyone, no matter what the favor was. He listened to country music, and liked to sing Karaoke with his friends. Brian will be remembered for his friendly nature and his love of life.

Brian is survived by his mother, Linda Halsne, of Clear Lake; his father, Richard Halsne, of Thornton; his brother, Brandon Halsne, of Mason City; paternal grandmother, Helen Halsne, of Clear Lake; maternal grandmother, Virginia Schmitz, of Clear Lake; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Symonds, of Clear Lake.

Brian was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jim Halsne Sr. And Vincent Schmitz.

Orville O. Bequette

MASON CITY — Orville O. Bequette, 73, of 1226 N. Virginia Ave., died Tuesday (Nov. 25, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund in his memory.

Orville O. Bequette was born April 14, 1924, in Fairchild, Wis., the son of Archie and Eva (Elsner) Bequette.

Orville attended and graduated from Fairchild High School in 1941.

After high school, Orville farmed with his father and worked various road construction jobs, building new roads.

In the 1950s Orville became self-employed as a Star Route Mail Contractor for the U.S. Mail Service. Orville hauled mail until he retired in 1981 due to a heart condition.

Orville drove for Iowa Social Services and did volunteer work, and enjoyed gardening.

Orville was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Bequette, Mason City; stepson, Richard Duncan and his wife, Linda, Phoenix, Ariz., and their daughter, Chelsea; one sister, Harriet Janson and her husband, Harley, Clear Lake; one brother, Donald Bequette and his wife, Bonnie, Mankato, Minn.; and special friends, Ron and Robin Miller and their daughters, Rachel and Kimberly, Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Alan Gorkowski.

 

Martin Krull

DUMONT — Martin Krull, 86, of Dumont, died Thursday (Nov. 27, 1997) at the Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Dumont United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marilyn Winch officiating. Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Martin Krull was born Aug. 14, 1911, Renville, Minn.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Krull, Dumont, and one sister, Rena Classen, Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Dorothy Susan Becker

WESLEY — Dorothy Susan Becker, 86, of Wesley, died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at the Westview Care Center, Britt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley, with the Rev. Paul Bormann officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, with a 3 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service.

Dorothy Susan Becker was born on April 18, 1911, at St. Joseph.

Survivors include her children, Betty Doughan, Hampton; Bernard Becker, Hartford, S.D.; Joanne Manternach, Dubuque; Martin Becker, Cedar Springs, Mich., and Diane Weisbrod, Algona; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her twin sister, Laura Becker, Algona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, three grandchildren, one sister and three brothers.

 

Deborah 'Debbie' Austin Howard

MONTEZUMA — Deborah "Debbie" Austin Howard, 42, of Montezuma, died Tuesday (Nov. 25, 1997) at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Watts Funeral Home, 201 W. Main, Montezuma, with Father Joe Rogers of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, officiating. Burial will be in the Guernsey Cemetery, Guernsey.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Watts Funeral Home, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Deborah was born on March 27, 1955, in Mason City, the daughter of William and Elaine (Holtzendorf) Austin.

She was united in marriage with Steven Neitzel and they were later divorced.

She moved to Montezuma. On Feb. 25, 1983, she was united in marriage with Michael Howard at Montezuma.

Deborah worked at Sig Manufacturing until her progression of MS required her to retire in 1988.

Deborah loved being around people and missed her co-workers when she was forced to retire. She always enjoyed getting company and was loved by all who met her.

She loved animals, especially her dog and kittens.

Most of all, she loved her family, children, and especially her granddaughter, Madison. She was a loving wife, a great mother, and a marvelous grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Howard of Montezuma; her two daughters, Wendy Austin, of Guernsey, and Angie Neitzel of Montezuma; a granddaughter, Madison Austin, of Guernsey; her mother, Elaine Austin, Mason City; two brothers, Greg Austin and his wife, Rhonda, of Brooklyn, and William Austin Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Des Moines; and her paternal grandmother, Delma Austin, Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Austin Sr.; maternal grandparents and her paternal grandfather.

A memorial fund has been established in her name and may be sent to: Michael Howard, P.O. Box 524, Montezuma, Iowa 50171.

 

 

Blanche N. Price

CHARLES CITY — Blanche N. Price, 100, of the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, and formerly of 405 N. Jackson St., died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at the nursing home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., with the Rev. Jack L. Ivey, pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with friends being greeted from 3 to 5 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of services at the funeral home.

Blanche Naomi McPherson Price was born March 4, 1897, in Aurora, Mo.

Survivors include one son-in-law, Robert Lux, Charles City, and six grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter and two brothers.

CLEAR LAKE — Juanita M. Burns, 91, of 117 Fairway Drive, died Wednesday (Nov. 26, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Thomas Healey of First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and will continue on Saturday until time of services.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or to the First Congregational Church, in memory of Juanita M. Burns.

Juanita M. Burns was born June 5, 1906, in Alta Vista, daughter of Harry and Eda (Arthur) Waters. She graduated from Colwell High School and then attended Hamilton Business College.

Juanita married Roy Dobbs in 1927. After his death in 1939, she went back to Hamilton Business College and graduated from there. She married Thomas L. Burns in 1942.

Juanita worked at the Clear Lake Bank and Trust Company for 35 years as a cashier and vice president of the bank. She was in Who's Who in American Women during the late 1960s and 1970s. She was past secretary and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Juanita enjoyed traveling and especially loved being with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Darlene Bieber of Clear Lake; two stepdaughters, Lorraine Henderickson and her husband, Arlan, Ottawa, Kan., and Carolee Gregory and her husband, Dean, Union, Miss.; six grandchildren, Doulgas Bieber, John Bieber, Steve Bieber and his wife, Collette, all of Clear Lake, Craig Bieber and his wife, Lorraine, Debra Menges and her husband, Richard, and Pamela Kearns and her husband, Dwayne, all of Mason City; seven great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Elsie Ray, San Diego, Calif.; Velva Brown, Mason City, and Edith Naumann and her husband, Bernard, Mason City; two brothers, Herbert Waters and his wife, Alfreda, Alta Vista, and Tom Waters and his wife, Lillian, of Lees Summitt, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one daughter, Roylene; one sister, Dorothy Wells Jr.; and three brothers, Arthur, Jack and Merle Waters.

Marion E. ‘Joe’ Norris

WATERLOO — Marion E. "Joe" Norris, 81, of Manor Care, formerly of 3845 W. Ninth St., Apt. 3, Waterloo, died Thursday (Nov. 27, 1997) at the care center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, 3146 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society or to Kimball United Methodist Church in his memory.

Marion Norris was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Lamoni, the son of Charles E. and Frances White Norris.

He married Hilda Leeper in 1940. She died in April 1965.

He then married Myrle Mae Smith on May 6, 1966, in Waterloo.

He was employed by Tate Cadillac/Oldsmobile as a mechanic for 25 years before retiring in 1977.

He was a United States Marine veteran serving in World War II.

He was a long-time member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church and enjoyed bowling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Myrle, of Waterloo; two daughters, Lynda Meeker of Parkersburg, and Judith Loeckle of Osage; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Norris of Tulsa, Okla.; and two sisters, Helen Davis of Coal Valley, Ill., and Dorothy Potter of Albany, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Hilda.

  

 

Leona Irene Mardock

BLUE MOUND, Kan. — Leona Irene Kinney Brown Mardock died Thursday (Nov. 27, 1997) at the Allen County Hospital, Iola, Kan. She had obtained the age of 83 years, 8 months and 22 days.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64138. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Park Lawn Funeral Home.

Leona was born March 5, 1914, in Osaykis, Minn., the second daughter of Thomas Frank and Ethel (Sprague) Fervins. She graduated from Mason City High School, Mason City, Iowa, in 1932 and was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Pleasanton, Kan.

On March 24, 1933, she married Earl Francis Kinney in Mason City. To this union were born four children. Mr. Kinney preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1945.

She married her second husband, Theodore Paul Brown, on April 24, 1946, in Mason City. This union produced two children. Mr. Brown preceded her in death on June 9, 1969.

She married her final husband, Chester Gaylord Mardock on Feb. 5, 1977. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1996.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Deloris Margaret Kinney and Jack Burgess, Iola, Kan., Earl (LeRoy) Kinney, Louisburg, Kan., Linda and Charles Bell, Tuscumbia, Mo., Wayne Brown Sr. and Paul Brown Sr., both of Iola, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nine stepchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren; and step great-grandchildren; and one brother, Oscar Frank Fewins Sr. of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, her second husband, her third husband, one grandchild, one sister and five nieces.

Charlotte Elvira Lansrude was born May 19, 1906, the daughter of Henry and Nellie (Burge) Linscott, in Burlington. She was united in marriage to Maurice Lansrude on October 18, 1941, in Unionville, Mo. He preceded her in death on January 16, 1986. After her marriage she became a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Roth and her husband, Gerald, of Mason City, David Lansrud and his wife, Mary, of Houston, Texas, and Lois Prochaska and her husband, Jim, of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Joleen Bryant and her husband, Steve, of Mason City, Kelly Roth and his wife, Michelle, of Mason City, Laurie Laningham of Houston, Texas, John Lansrud of Houston, Texas, Brian Lansrud of College Station, Texas, Kari Prochaska of Iowa City, Kristin Prochaska of Galena, Ill., and Katie Prochaska of Dubuque; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jessie Hagberg of Melbourne and Vivian Tonahill of Soda Springs, Idaho; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lloyd Lansrude, who died on September 13, 1964; three sisters; and two brothers.

Evelyn M. Hansen was born June 19, 1904, near Britt, the daughter of Clara and C.M. Christenson. She attended country schools. She was united in marriage to Harvey Hansen at her parents’ home on Feb. 18, 1931. They lived in the Britt and Crystal Lake areas until moving into Britt in 1984. In March of 1994, she moved into the Oakwood Care Center.

Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Korte of Mason City, Inez Elaine Vestweber and her husband, John, of Webster City, and Clarie Wittenberg and her husband, Mike, of Eau Claire, Wis.; one half-sister, Delores Leaman, and her husband, Dean, of Columbus, Md.; one stepsister, Evelyn Kyle of Britt; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepmother, two brothers, one half-sister, one stepsister and one grandson.

Gary Christensen was born Jan. 3, 1949, in Deshler, Neb.

Robert Earl Peterson was born April 20, 1926, the son of Jess and Anna (Hansen) Peterson. He married Ann Marie Frank on June 29, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Bob grew up in Mason City. He served in the Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.

Bob worked at Lehigh Cement for 41 years until retiring. The most important thing for him was his wife and family. He enjoyed spending time with his neighbors and gardening. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Survivors include, his wife, Ann Marie Peterson, Mason City; five children, Sandra Marie Hamann, Terry Ann Eldridge, Sheila Rae Malek and her husband, David J., Robert Earl Peterson Jr. and his wife, Sherry, and Cathy Peterson and her husband, Alan K. Haight, all of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Troy A. Peterson, Eric J Peterson and his wife, Omaida, all of Mason City, Jami Jo Peterson and Chris, Nora Springs, Michele Peterson and Jason, Mason City, Steven Dean Miller, Manly, and Shannon M.
