Alfred J. Crone

BURLINGTON — Alfred J. Crone, 85, of Burlington, died Wednesday (Oct. 29, 1997) at the Burlington Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Lunning Chapel, 2620 Mt. Pleasant, Burlington, with the Rev. David Rogula officiating.

Graveside committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Power City Post #3508 and the American Legion Post #41.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Lunning Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established.

Alfred J. Crone was born Sept. 5, 1912, in Woden, to John and Nora (Aldrich) Crone.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Rose C. Bloomquist on March 4, 1961, in Oquawka, Ill.

He was a driver for the Burlington Northern Truck Lines for 23 years, retiring in 1973.

He attended West Hill United Methodist Church, Burlington.

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #2297, of Lakeland, Fla., and of V.F.W. Post #10102, of Burlington and the Teamsters Union #218, along with being an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Rose C. Crone, of Burlington; one daughter, Marshele, of Owensboro, Ky.; five sons, Alfred of Burlington; James of Duncan, Okla.; Wayne, Rick and Bruce, all of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbur Crone of Clear Lake, and Dean Crone of Woden; one brother-in-law, Naaman Seefeld, Garner; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, one brother and one sister.


June Bell Cook

MASON CITY — June Bell Cook, 65, of 2425 S. Taft Ave., died Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 28, 1997) at the Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Christ Deliverance Apostolic Temple with the Elder Andre Wells and Elder Wallace Gilmore officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the June Cook Memorial Fund.

June was born June 18, 1932, the daughter of Claude and Sally Cook in Shreveport, La. Sally was later united in marriage to Freddie York in Shreveport, La.

June enjoyed cooking and was very good at it. She also enjoyed watching T.V., fishing and going for rides in the country. June was also known for her tremendous bargain hunting skills. Her most precious time was spent with her grandchildren.

June was a member of Christ Deliverance Apostolic Temple.

Mrs. Cook is survived by one daughter, Bessie York of Lincoln, Neb.; four sons, Mrs. and Mrs. Richard (Ronda) York, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Carolyn) York, Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Betty) Boyd, all of Mason City, and David Cook of Shreveport, La.; one sister, Easter Smith of Menlo Park, Calif.; two brothers, Ross Cook, San Francisco, Calif. , and W.H. Cook of Oakland ,Calif.; one cousin, A.J. Cook; two nephews, Billy Ray Cook and Robert Charles Cook; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Mary Ann Boyd; two sons, Freddie and Willie York; one sister, Opel Cook; and one brother, Fennel Cook.

 

Ella Curley

THOMPSON — Ella Curley, 81, of Thompson, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Thompson, with the Rev. Wendy Trone officiating. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake Township Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Winter Funeral Home, Thompson, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Ella Curley was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Crystal Lake.

Survivors include her children, Rosella Wubben of Thompson; Gwen Farrow, of Olathe, Kan.; Janet Paulson of Valley City, N.D.; Sandra Korsa, Garner; Harold Curley of Garner; and Bob Curley of Minneapolis, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six stepchildren.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, one sister, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Irene A. Sweet

CLARION — Irene A. Sweet, 81, of Clarion, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Clarion Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of the Willim Funeral Home, with Mark Young of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Irene was born Nov. 2, 1915, at Homer.

Survivors include two sons, Roger and Jim of Clarion; and one daughter, Roseane Paullin of Grimes; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one daughter.

 

Dwaine D. Clemens

HAMPTON — Dwaine D. "Clem" Clemens, 57, of Hampton, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 1997) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, with the Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Burial will be in Leindenwood Cemetery, rural Geneva.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Dwaine D. Clemens was born Aug. 22, 1940, in Butler County.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Clemens, Hampton; one daughter, Laura Clemens, Pella; and one brother, Ron Clemens, Vinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church in Hampton, Hampton Lions Club or Friends of the Hampton Library

 

Katherine Goetsch

HAMPTON — Katherine Leyla Marie Chrtt Goetsch, 57, of Hampton, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 1997) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services today at the funeral home.

Katherine Goetsch was born July 9, 1940, in Canby, Minn.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Goetsch, Hampton; two daughters, Kimberly Johnson, Latimer, and Shelly Hunt, Rochester, Minn.; one son, Jason Goetsch, Mason City; six grandchildren; and one brother, Ernest Chrtt Jr., Canby, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Paul J. Winkels

MCINTIRE — Paul J. Winkels, 81, of McIntire, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

 

Mildred Woodin

CLARION — Mildred Woodin, 64, of Clarion, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 1997) at the Clarion Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of the Willim Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Kellogg of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Willim Funeral Home.

Mildred Woodin was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Clarion.

Survivors include one sister, Jessie Kent of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and one brother, John Woodin of Elm Grove, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Violet Arlene Fenney

NORTHWOOD — Violet Arlene Fenney, 78, of Northwood, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Lutheran Retirement Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church.

RICEVILLE — Zella P. McInroy, 98, of Riceville, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center, Osage,

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Conway Funeral Home, with the Rev. Herschel Hawf officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Zella P. McInroy was born Sept. 1, 1899, west of McIntire.

Survivors include two daughters, Anthonae "Inie" Walls of Forest Park, Ga., and Helen Pool of Tiston, Ga.; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, one son, two stepchildren, two brothers and two sisters.

Violet Arlene Fenney

NORTHWOOD — Violet Arlene Fenney, 78, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Lutheran Retirement Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Allan J. Stoa and the Rev. Mark F. Bents officiating. Burial will be in the South Shell Rock Cemetery, rural Northwood.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday. Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., is in charge of arrangements.

Violet Arlene Fenney was born on Sept. 13, 1919, to Harry and Ethel (Mowers) Peterson in rural Worth County, near Kensett. After the death of her mother, Violet, age seven, was raised by her grandmother, Karen Peterson, and attended Northwood schools, graduating from Northwood High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching certificate. After completing her schooling, she taught for six years in the rural country school system in Worth and Mitchell Counties. She postponed her upcoming marriage to care for her grandmother, Karen Peterson, in the last year of her life. She was united in marriage to Ernest Herbert Fenney on Sept. 27, 1944, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1976. After their marriage, together they farmed on the Fenney homestead southwest of Northwood, until she moved to Northwood in 1975, so she could be closer to her husband who was in the Lutheran Retirement Home.

She enjoyed gardening, especially growing strawberries, reading, listening to music and living on the family farm, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren, which was a priority in her life.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the church circle and ladies aid, Sunday school teacher for several years, and was on the Alter Guild, all in Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Karen Clayburg and her husband, Dr. John Clayburg, of Coon Rapids, Minn., Carol Clark and her husband, Randolf, of Sabula, and Ethel Jordan and her husband, Stephen, of Orange, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Gary Clayburg of Aurora, Colo., Roger Clayburg of Bayard, Kathy Clayburg of Minnetonka, Minn., Tom Clayburg of Ames, Michael Clayburg of Coon Rapids, Derek Clark of Madison, Wis., Kristin Clark of Decorah, Elissa Jordan and Stephanie Jordan, both of Orange, Calif.; we well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Ernest Herbert Fenney, she was also preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; one brother, Earl Peterson; and her step-mother, Mabel (Grosland) Peterson.

Wilmer Hartwig

OSAGE — Wilmer Hartwig, 71, died Saturday (Nov. 1, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Lena Florence Voy

APLINGTON — Lena Florence Voy, 95, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Maple Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Clark C. Christian officiating. Interment will be in the East Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Eldora.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lena Florence Voy was born March 28, 1902, in Albion Township, Butler County.

Survivors include five sisters, Ethel Stopplemoor of Shell Rock, Mary Ann Tarrell of Eldora, Bernice Morgan of Camarillo, Calif., Dorothy Palmer of Grundy Center, and Alice Whitney of Waterloo; and one brother, Harlan Hersey of Parkersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and two brothers.


Clinton O. Shomber

OSAGE — Clinton O. Shomber, 86, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Ansgar Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Gonnerman officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery, Orchard.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Clinton O. Gonnerman was born March 14, 1911, in Homewood, Kan.

Survivors include four daughters, Louise Hinrichsen, Barbara Miller, Dorothy Turner and Linda Riker, all of Osage; one son, Charles Shomber of Augusta, Ga.; one brother, Harold Shomber of Ottawa, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, one sister, one brother and one son.

 

 

Paul Jacob Winkels

MCINTIRE — Paul Jacob Winkels, 81, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Meyer, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 8 p.m. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Jacob Winkels was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Osage.

Survivors include seven daughters, Pat Theis of Riceville, Lucille Winkels, Karen Winkels and Audrey Winkels, all of Clear Lake, Judy Mischke of Theilman, Minn., Janet Walters of Rochester, Minn., and Doris Heimer of Garner; one son, David, of McIntire; one sister, Bernadine Klecker of Owatonna, Minn.; one brother, Lambert Winkels of Meyer; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother.

 

 

Tom J. Garner III

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — Dr. Tom J. Garner III, 46, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, officiating. Private committal services will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to the Jefferson County Medical Society, Tom J. Garner III, c/o Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Medical Staff Office, 1515 West 42nd, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71603.

Tom J. Garner III was born Sept. 29, 1951, in Little Rock, Ark.

Dr. Garner was reared and received his early education in Jefferson and Pulaski counties. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., in 1974. He earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Pharmacy in 1977.

Dr. Garner was awarded his doctor of osteopathy degree from the University of Health Sciences-College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City in 1982. After serving an internship at Dallas Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, in 1982 and 1983, Dr. Garner did one year of public service practice for the Indian Health Service in Oklahoma. He served a residency in internal medicine from 1986 to 1989 at Detroit Osteopathic and Bi-County Hospitals in Detroit and Warren, Mich. He returned to public service, practicing medicine for the Webb County Health Department in Laredo, Texas, from 1989 to 1992.

Dr. Garner served cardiology fellowships at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Mich., and at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich., from October of 1992 to September of 1995. He was a cardiology special purpose trainee at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor in 1994 and 1995. He studied interventional cardiology at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit from July through December of 1995. He came to Pine Bluff in 1996 and practiced cardiology there since that time.

Dr. Garner was board certified in cardiology in August of 1997. He was certified in internal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, the former Deborah D. Rozen, to whom he was married July 27, 1984, in Dallas, Texas; his father, Tom J. Garner Jr. of Noxapater, Miss.; his mother, Ruby Maxine Butler Garner of Jonesboro, Ark.; sisters, Sherry Jones of Bono, Ark., and Carol Paneitz of Kansas City, Mo; and his mother-in-law, Delores Rozen of Minneapolis, Minn.

 

 

Dorothy Leigh Mark

CLARKSVILLE — Dorothy Leigh Mark, 93, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Community United Methodist Church, with burial in Lynwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Schwartz Funeral Home.

The family requests memorials to the Clarksville Library.

Dorothy Leigh Mark was born Sept. 8, 1904.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Edward L. Mark of Cambridge, Mass., and Dr. Allyn Mark of Iowa City; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Lewis R. Leigh of Omaha, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister.

Duane Flugum

LAKE MILLS — Duane Flugum, 63, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Victory Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. Randy Schustak officiating. Burial will be in West Prairie Cemetery, rural Leland.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Duane Arlan Flugum was born Dec. 26, 1933, in rural Leland.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Flugum of Lake Mills; one daughter, Lori Ann Flugum of Albert Lea, Minn.; two brothers, Marvin Flugum of Emmons, Minn., and Elmer Flugum of Long Beach, Calif.; and four sisters, Arlene Roberts of Mason City, Myrtle Witham of Lake Mills, and Agnes Furiosi and Lenore Wilson, both of San Francisco, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin brother.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Wilmer L. Hartwig was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Osage.

Survivors include his wife, Isabella Hartwig of Osage; one daughter, Patricia Vandell of Missoula, Mont.; and one sister, Lois Wangen of Albert Lea, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

 

Joy Funte

CHARLES CITY — Joy Funte, 73, died Sunday (Nov. 1, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home with the Rev. James Troxel, interim pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, where the family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Joy Virginia Moeller Funte was born March 2, 1924, at Rudd.

Survivors include her husband, Jack, of Charles City; and one daughter, Lisa R. Funte of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

 

Ben "Bud" Frank Nieman

VENTURA — Ben "Bud" Frank Nieman, 71, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ventura United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Burial will be in the Klemme Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

The family of Ben "Bud" Frank Nieman has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Ventura United Methodist Church in his memory.

Ben "Bud" Frank Nieman was born on May 20, 1926, in Kanawha, the son of Ben and Tena (Lambert) Nieman. He attended and received his education in the Klemme schools, graduating from Klemme High School in 1943. After completing his formal education, he began working at the Klemme Elevator and also worked for Bud Prichard’s Auto in Garner, and Fisher Implement in Meservey until 1954, when he started Nieman Oil Company, and in 1962, Nieman Tire and Wheel Company, and in 1965, he began farming north of Clear Lake.

Bud was known as the supplier of tire and wheel assembly and suspension components of trailer manufacturing throughout the United States.

He was united in marriage to Lois Zook on Nov. 26, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Bud was very active in civic and business activities. He was a former mayor of Ventura, former member and past president of the Ventura Lions Club, was on the FHA Board in Mason City, Cirrus Board, was former board member of NATM and was voted Iowa Small Businessman of the year in 1988.

He enjoyed hunting, playing baseball and softball and was the 4-H coach for the softball team in Ventura. He also enjoyed his race horses and bowling, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of Ventura United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are one son, David Nieman and his wife, Lisa, of Ventura; one daughter, Nancy Leisen and her husband, Mark, of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Ben and Kathryn Nieman and Nicole and Drew Leisen; two sisters, Naomi Brandt and Margaret Terhufen, both of Clear Lake; as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Judy Thiemann, Ann Nieman and Mildred Smith.

The family of Ben "Bud" Frank Nieman has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Ventura United Methodist Church in his memory.

Ben "Bud" Frank Nieman was born on May 20, 1926, in Kanawha, the son of Ben and Tena (Lambert) Nieman. He attended and received his education in the Klemme Schools, graduating from Klemme High School in 1943.

After completing his formal education, he began working at the Klemme Elevator and also worked for Bud Prichard's Auto in Garner and Fisher Implement in Meservey until 1954, when he started Nieman Oil Company, and in 1962, Nieman Tire and Wheel Company, and in 1965, he began farming north of Clear Lake. Bud was known as the supplier of tire and wheel assembly and suspension components of trailer manufacturing throughout the United States.

He was united in marriage to Lois Zook on Nov. 26, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Bud was very active in civic and business activities which include former mayor of Ventura, former member and past president of the Ventura Lions Club, was on the FHA Board in Mason City, Cirrus Board, former board member of NATM, and was voted Iowa Small Businessman of the year in 1988.

He enjoyed hunting, playing baseball and softball, and was the 4-H coach for the softball team in Ventura, his race horses and bowling, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of Ventura United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is one son, David Nieman and his wife, Lisa, of Ventura; one daughter, Nancy Leisen and her husband, Mark, of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Ben and Kathryn Nieman, and Nicole and Drew Leisen; two sisters, Naomi Brandt and Margaret Terhufen, both of Clear Lake; as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Judy Thiemann, Ann Nieman and Mildred Smith.

CHICAGO, Ill. — Mrs. Betty Delk, 78, of Chicago, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at her home in Chicago.

Betty is survived by her sister, Katie Lane of Clear Lake, Iowa.

THORNTON — Marguerite Csere Long, 82, of 22 Marlborough St., Portland, Conn., formerly of Thornton, widow of Leonard A. Long, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at a Portland, Conn., nursing home.

A Mass of Christian burial was held today at the Church of St. Mary.

Burial in the family plot will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton.

Memorial contributions in Marguerite's memory may be sent to the Church of St. Mary Rebuilding Fund, 51 Freestone Ave., Portland, Conn. 06480.

Born in Portland, Conn., on Aug. 4, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Julius M. And Julia (Ronay) Csere.

Before moving to Portland, Conn., in 1992, she had lived in Thornton for 40 years and was the librarian at Thornton Public Library.

She graduated from Middlesex Business College and had worked at the Robert Gair Co. in Portland, Conn., as its secretary. She was a communicant of the Church of St. Mary in Portland, Conn.

She is survived by two brothers; James J. Csere and Richard P. Csere, both of Portland, Conn.; four sisters, Grace Benoit, Ethel Puglisi, Jean Newsom,and Dorothy Parker, all of Portland, Conn.; two grandchildren, Andrew J. Long and Suzanne K. Long, both of Neosho, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, James Long; one brother, William F. Csere; and three sisters, Catherine Luckhardt, Helen Foley and Eleanor Milardo.

 

Louis E. Palmer

NORA SPRINGS — Louis E. Palmer, 89, of Nora Springs, died early Monday morning (Nov. 3, 1997) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen officiating. Inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

The Palmer family will have a time of gathering in Louis' memory from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City.

Louis was born on Aug. 14, 1908, one of four children of Ernest and Nellie (Hargrave) Palmer, near Rockford. He graduated from Rockford High School and then farmed near Rockford.

Louie and Lois H. Kleinschmidt were united in marriage on July 11, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and have had 44 happy years.

In 1965, one year before moving to Rudd, Louie started work at the Rudd Co-op and spent this time working hard and being with people and he enjoying every minute of it. He retired from that line of work in 1980 and then started another hard job working for his stepson at Terry's Catering.

His passion for work carried over into his flower and vegetable garden. He was known to have the cleanest garden in town and he raised pumpkins so that his grandchildren could put them in the "little red wagon" and sell them around town.

Louie enjoyed reading in his spare time and would read western, fiction, the National Geographic and the Reader's Digest from cover to cover. He especially loved his grandchildren. Louis was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church.

Louis will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Lois, of Nora Springs; his daughter, Tracy Palmer, Cedar Rapids; his son, Timothy and his wife, Cheryl Palmer, Nora Springs; his stepson, Tom and his wife, Pauline Quackenbush, Rockford; one sister, Mrs. Alice and her husband, Ralph Birchard, Greenville, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Julie Palmer and Cassie Quackenbush.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Florence Ditsworth and Ruth Nelson; and one stepson, Terry Quackenbush.

INDIANOLA — John Forest Dale, 48, of Indianola, died Friday (Oct. 31, 1997) at the Riverside General Hospital, Riverside, Calif., of a double brain aneurysm.

John Forest Dale was born in Forest City. .He grew up on a farm near Britt, where he graduated from high school in 1968.

John worked as a mechanic at Borcherts 66 for several years before starting his own business, Dale's Auto in the 1980s. He had been driving a semi since the late 1980s for Circle B Transport.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Dale and his wife Danakay, of Des Moines, and Nicholas Dale of Indianola; two daughters, Christina Dale and Jill Dale, both of Indianola; his parents, Donald and Mary Dale, of Osceola; one granddaughter, Karlee Dale of Des Moines; three sisters, Kathy Dale, Clear Lake; Becky Ogbourne, of Osceola and Judy Zander and her husband, Dallas, of Des Moines; one brother, Ross Dale and his wife, Sally, of Oskaloosa; and also his constant companion, his dog, Cinnamon.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Forrest and Roxie Dale and Richard and Gertrude Yahnke.

Gladys Marrian Sonderland was born Feb. 21, 1909, at Northwood, N.D.

Survivors include one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one niece and one nephew.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and two husband.

 

E. Lucille Miller

CORWITH — E. Lucille Miller, 92, of Corwith, died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 1997) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.

 

Greg A. Nelson

KLEMME — Greg A. Nelson, 43, of Klemme, died Monday (Nov. 3, 1997) at Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Georgia White-Kisslring officiating. Burial will be Ell Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Greg A. Nelson was born July 22, 1954, at San Diego, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie, of Klemme; one son, Brian, Meservey; one daughter, Amy; and son, Brad, both at home; father and stepmother, Don and Ann Nelson of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Daryl Nelson, Prescott, Ariz.; stepbrothers, Mike Stewart, Tempe, Ariz., and Robert Stewart, Phoenix, Ariz.; and one stepsister, Cheryl Orsburn, Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his mother, paternal and maternal grandparents.
