LAKOTA — Anton Kardoes, 74, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at United Hospital, Blue Earth, Minn.

Funeral services are pending for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Community Chapel, Lakota. Other arrangements are incomplete at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center.

 

Jake Risius

RAKE — Jake Risius, 92, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at United Hospital, Blue Earth, Minn.

Funeral services are pending for Monday afternoon at Liberty Lutheran Church, Rake. Other arrangements are incomplete at Winter Funeral home, Buffalo Center.

 

Margaret Mary (Stork) Perkey

 

MASON CITY — Margaret Mary (Stork) Perkey, 85, of Mason City, died Tuesday (Nov. 18, 1997) at the I.O.O.F. Home.

 

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with her nephew, the Rev. Roger Katz, officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

 

Visitation was held at 5 Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.

 

Margaret Mary Perkey was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Macintosh, S.D., the daughter of Edward Joseph and Jennie Ruth (Kisner) Stork. She was married to Charles King in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1957. In 1964, she married James Perkey and he preceded her in death in 1984.

 

Margaret grew up in Clear Lake and graduated from Holy Family High School in 1927. She worked for Younkers in Ottumwa, Des Moines and Mason City for many years. While living in Michigan she worked at Jacobsen Department Store until retiring and returning to Clear Lake. Margaret was an avid reader and she enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

 

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Balek, Mason City, and Sister Priscilla Stork, OSF, Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one sister, Genevieve Katz; and two brothers, Jim and Frank Stork.

 

 

Katherine Zastrow

CHARLES CITY — Katherine (Mrs. Ralph) Zastrow, 94, a resident of 400 Kelly St., died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

A funeral Mass for Katherine Flavey Zastrow will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will occur at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday where the parish vigil scripture wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue at the church Monday an hour prior to the Mass.

Katherine Mull Falvey Zastrow was born March 19, 1904, at Muscatine.

Survivors include two step daughters, Helen Noah and Virginia Smith, both of Charles City; six step grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

 

T. "Howard" Zilm

CHARLES CITY — T. "Howard" Zilm, 86, of 204 Spriggs St., died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Hauser Funeral Home.

 

John U. Winter

BUFFALO CENTER — John U. Winter, 80, died Tuesday (Nov. 18, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Burial will be in Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and one hour before services at the church.

John Winter was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Buffalo Center.

Survivors include his son, Ronald of Cathedral City, Calif.; two sisters, Minnie Walker of Algona and Marge Miller of Des Moines; and three bothers, George Winter of Buffalo Center, Andy Winter of Buffalo Center and Lawrence Winter of Stewartville, Minn.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and two sisters.

 

 

Shirley Ann DeVore

OSAGE — Shirley Ann DeVore, 56, of Dothan, Alabama, formerly of Osage, died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at Dothan of natural causes.

Services are pending at Champion Funeral home, Osage.

 

Verna L. Riggs

BELMOND — Verna L. Riggs, 95, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at Belmond Community Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated. Dugger-Ewing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Verna was born Sept. 2, 1902, in Geneva.

Survivors include one daughter, Lelia Lindsey of Caldwell, Ark.; one son, Jack Riggs of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son.

Lavern H. Hiller

 

THORNTON — Lavern H. Hiller, 84, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at Franklin County General Hospital Care Center.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Richland Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jerry Gernander officiating. Burial will be in Richland Lutheran Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral Home.

 

Lavern was born Aug. 20, 1913, to Fred and Louise (Meyer) Hiller of rural Latimer. When Lavern was 10 years old, his family moved to rural Thornton where he attended country school. He was a life-long member of the Richland Lutheran Church, Thornton.

 

He served in an infantry unit in the U.S. Army in 1941. On Dec. 20, 1941, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Ingebretson. After serving in the military, he returned home and started farming south of Thornton. Lavern and Evelyn enjoyed spending their winters at the Ft. Dade Mobile Home Park in Ft. Dade, Fla. They also spent many summers at Leach Lake, Minn.

 

Lavern was an active member of the community. He was a 50-year member of the Anton Juhl Post of the American Legion, a member of the Lions, was active in the Richland Lutheran Church, the Thornton Co-op, and was on the First State Bank Board.

 

Lavern is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Thornton; his children, Joan Oelkers and Jack Hiller, both of Clear Lake, and Carmen Haugland and her husband "Red" of Thornton; a brother, Rudy Hiller and his wife, Virginia, of Greeley, Colo.; a sister, Letha Dodge of the Rockwell Nursing Home; four grandchildren, Kelly Hyde of Clear Lake; Wendy Friest and her husband, Greg of Kensett; Tisha Haugland of Winter Park, Colo., and Mia Haugland of Thornton; and one great-grandson, Dylan Friest.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Louise Hiller; and a granddaughter, Amber Haugland.

 

 

Theodore A. "Ted" Coe

VENTURA — Theodore A. "Ted" Coe, 83, of 203 Park Ave., died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at Willowcreek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth St., Clear Lake.

 

 

Donald C. Boutelle

KENSETT — Donald C. Boutelle, 81, of 209 Maple, Box 121, Kensett, died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at the Manly Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

There will be no services. His body was cremated. Hogan-Bremer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Carlton Boutelle was born June 11, 1916, at rural Kensett, the son of Raymond and Mabel (Hildreth) Boutelle.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946.

He was untied in marriage to Gayle Ashpole.

Donald enjoyed playing the trumpet in a five-piece band when he was in school and he also played in a Northwood band. He also liked dancing, all kinds of sports and golfing.

Donald especially loved water, being close to streams, lakes or the ocean.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1328, Mason City, and a member of the Kensett United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle Boutelle of Kensett; two sons, Ronald Boutelle of Corvallis, Ore., and Craig Boutelle and his wife, Sandra, of Mission, Kan.; two grandchildren, Steven Boutelle of Manassas, Va., and Tina Boutelle of Mission, Kan.; one brother, Doyle Boutelle of Northwood; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

 

Frank Moulton Jr.

ALGONA — Frank Moulton Jr., 76, died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at his daughter's home in Eagle Grove.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Algona, with the Rev. Phil Webb officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery with military services held at the grave site. A public Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. tonight at the Geilenfeld Murphy Schaaf Funeral Home. Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothea; three daughters, Kay Sabin of Eagle Grove, Phyllis Williamson of Franklin, Tenn., Susan Patrick of Los Angeles, Calif., one son, Mike Moulton of Sedalia, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

CLARION — Margaret Jorgenson, 75, died Friday (Nov. 21, 1997) at Clarion Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Sunday at Willim Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Margaret was born Sept. 6, 1922, near Goldfield.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Watne of Clarion; one brother, Al Edwards of Goldfield; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and one sister.

 

 

Donald C. Boutelle

KENSETT —Donald C. Boutelle, 81, of 209 Maple, Box 121, died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at the Manly Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Shirley Ann DeVore

OSAGE — Shirley Ann DeVore, 56, of Dothan, Ala., formerly of Osage, died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with Father Philip Recker officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation at will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at Champion Funeral Home and there will be a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Shirley was born Feb. 15, 1941, at Osage, the daughter of Andrew and Leona (Mandler) Schwab. She attended Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1959. She was employed as a clerk at the Scott Store and as a secretary for Farm Bureau. Shirley married Larry Gene DeVore June 25, 1960 at Osage. She resided in various places with her husband during his 21-year tenure in the Armed Forces. She had lived in Dothan, Ala., since 1982.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Gene DeVore of Dothan, Ala.; one son, Daniel Lee DeVore and his wife, Traci Lynn, of Dothan, Ala.; one granddaughter, Desiree' Ann DeVore of Dothan; her mother, Leona Rogers of Osage; three brothers, Andrew Schwab of Salem, N.H., Charles Schwab and wife, Betty, of Charles City and Tom Schwab and wife, Marcia, of Nora Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

 

Anton 'Tony' Kardoes

LAKOTA — Anton "Tony" Kardoes, 74, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at United Hospital in Blue Earth, Minn.

The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Community Chapel in Lakota.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, where other arrangements are incomplete.

 

Frank C. Moulton

ALGONA — Frank C. Moulton, Jr., died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at Eagle Grove.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Philip Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites Conducted by the American Legion: Hagg-Turner Post No. 90. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. today at the church.

Frank C. Moulton, Jr., was born on July 7, 1921, at Mitchell, S.D.

Survivors included his wife, Dorothea; three daughters, Kay Sabin and husband, Carroll, of Eagle Grove, Susan Patrick and husband, Kirk, of Los Angeles of Calif., and Phyllis Williamson and husband, Ron, of Franklin, Tenn.; one son, Michael Moulton and his wife, Karen, of Sedalia, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jake Risius was born April 27, 1905, on a farm near Iowa Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Annie; three sons, Marvin of State College, Pa., Norman of Lake Mills, and Larry of Lafayette, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one brother in infancy.

 

William Victor Young

CLEAR LAKE — William Victor Young, 38, of 10035 Dogwood Ave., died Tuesday (Nov. 18, 1997) in a car accident.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. A scriptural wake will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials may be given in his memory to the North Iowa Humane Society.

William was born Nov. 3, 1959, in Sioux City, the son of Ted Lee and Julie (Hofer) Young. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1978 and then attended North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. He was employed in building industry sales. After living in Indianola, he moved to rural Clear Lake in 1996 to work in farm management. He loved the outdoors, his horses and dogs.

He is survived by his parents, Ted and Julie Young of Mason City; a sister, Nancy Jackson and her husband, Bill of Houston, Texas; a niece, Katie Elizabeth Hofer Jackson of Houston, Texas; three cousins, Kathy Palmer of Tallahassee, Fla., Vickie Kelly of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Terry Arons of Cedar Rapids; and one aunt, Jacque Young-Ecof of Leesburg, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Victor Young and Hester Young Ragsdale, and William and Garnet Hofer.

LAKOTA — Otto Karels, 75, died Friday (Nov. 21, 1997) at United Hospital, Blue Earth, Minn.

Funeral services are pending for 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lakota. Other arrangements are incomplete at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center.

 

 

Theodore (Ted) Alvin Coe

VENTURA — Mr. Theodore (Ted) Alvin Coe, 83, of 203 Park Ave., died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at Willow Creek Healthcare, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ventura United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Interment will be in the Ventura Cemetery.

Visitation begins after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given in memory of Theodore A. Coe.

Ted was born April 26, 1914, in Mason City, the son of Wilbur and Blanche (Porter) Coe. He attended rural Mason City School. He moved with his family to the McIntosh farm rural Ventura, and he worked in the Ventura area.

Ted married Evalena (Heavy) Cooley on Nov. 28 in Ventura. They moved to the Grand Rapids, Minn., area where he worked in the iron ore mines. They later moved back to Ventura where he worked in the hardware store, ran the gas station and then went to work for Northern Natural Gas where he worked until his retirement.

Ted loved to fish, hunt, trap, bowl, traveling in the car, family vacations and being with his family. He was a charter member of the Ventura Gun Club, and a member of Ventura United Methodist Church.

Ted is survived by his wife, Evalena (Heavy) Coe of Ventura; four children, Elsie Rist and her husband, Ron, of Moneta, Va., Bill Coe and his wife, Carolyn, of Ventura, Linda Case Sabin of McIntosh, Minn., and Gary Coe and his special friend, Barb Scott, of Ventura; six grandchildren, Eric Coe and his wife, Judi, of Lakewood, Colo., Colette Sampson and her husband, Michael, of Mason City, Aaron Coe of Mining, William M. Case of Sebaka, Minn., Donald Case and his wife, Monica, of Mason City and Gary Case and his wife, Sandy, of Plymouth; three great-grandchildren, Nick and Jennifer Coe of Lakewood, Colo. and Clayton Sampson of Mason City; one sister, Cleo Overgaard of Ventura; and four brothers Kenneth Coe of Cohasett, Minn., Cecil Coe and his wife, Irene, of North Branch, Minn., Forrest Coe and his wife, Virginia; Larry Coe and his wife, Jane, both of Ventura; one brother-in-law, Orland "Bud" Cooley and his wife, Doris, of Ridgeway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Joy Currier, and two brothers-in-law, Harold Currier and Wilbur Overgaard.

Hilda Lee

BELMOND — Hilda Lee, 81, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may direct them to the Hilda Lee Memorial Fund.

Hilda (Erdman) Lee, the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth (Groh) Erdman, was born April 30, 1916, at Kanawha. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond.

She was united in marriage to Archie Lee on March 5, 1935, at Eagle Grove. To this union five daughters were born, Donna, Phyllis and triplets Leone, Lois and Lavonne.

Hilda was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the E.L.C.W.

Hilda was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with all her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Phyllis Shook and her husband, Bill, of Johnston, Leone Weinheimer and her husband, Leo, of Fontanelle, son-in-law, Richard Goeman of Midland, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Pringnitz and Minnie Johnson of Belmond; Betty Faulkner and Ann Pierce of Webster City; brother, Harold "Sonny" Erdman of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie; daughter, Donna Goeman; two infant daughters, Lois and Lavonne; and a sister, Mollie Kalkwarf.

 

 

Rosa Alvilda Jensen Hansen

HAMPTON — Rosa Alvilda Jensen Hansen, 94, died Friday (Nov. 21, 1997) at Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church in rural Hampton.

Rosa Hansen was born Oct. 8, 1903, in Hamilton Township in Franklin County.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers.

 

 

Otto L. Karels

LAKOTA — Otto L. Karels, 75, died Friday (Nov. 21, 1997) at United Hospital in Blue Earth, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Victor Vriesen officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Township Cemetery, Swea City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center, and one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Otto was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Swea City.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Karels of Lakota; three daughters, Linda Hertzke of Estherville, Susan Spieker of Garner and Colleen Perrizo of Delavan, Minn.; one son, Doug Karels of Ledyard; one sister, Annie Anderson of Bancroft; four brothers, Arend of Lake Crystal, Minn, Albert of Henderson, Minn., Johnnie of Buffalo Center, and William of Burt; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

BELMOND — Anna C. Busick, 75, died Saturday (Nov. 22, 1997) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Hilda Folgero

LeROY, Minn. — Hilda Folgero, 94, died Friday (Nov. 21, 1997) at Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas Kolden officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Hutchins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hilda Folgero, daughter of Henry and Hulda Ohlerking, was born Sept. 24, 1903, in Hampton, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She married Henry Wearda on Dec. 25, 1923, in Hampton. They farmed in the Sheffield, Iowa, area before moving to Mason City. After Henry’s death in 1958, Hilda married Clarence Folgero on April 5, 1959, in Mason City. They made their home in LeRoy, Minn., where Hilda continued to reside after Clarence’s death until her health made it necessary for her to move into the Health Care Center in Adams, Minn.

Before her marriage, Hilda was employed at Earl Ferris Nursery in Hampton. While residing in Mason City, she was employed at Earl May Seed and Nursery. She was an avid antique collector.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Hilda Folgero Memorial Fund.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Zuehlke and her husband, Erwin, of Clear Lake, and Willodeen Trebilcock and her husband, Jack, of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Terry Zuehlke, Janis Lande, Pamela Maurer, Susan Moore and Jane Harris; 12 great-grandchildren, Kristen and Jeffrey Zuehlke, Matthew Beschorner, John, Adam and Eric Lande, Todd and Robert Maurer, Stacy and April Moore, Kyle and Jay Harris; one brother, Fred Ohlerking of Eagle Grove; and one sister, Esther Bengtson Stumph and husband, Robert, of Owatonna, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother; both husbands, Henry (Hank) and Clarence; four sisters, Marie Blood, Ida Fitz, Elizabeth Wearda and Edna Neymyer; three grandchildren, Richard Zuehlke and Linda Zuehlke Beschorner and her husband, Tom; and one great-grandchild, Tara Beschorner.

Dennis was born on July 24, 1921, at Cresco.

KLEMME — Beverly Sinnwell, 36, died Sunday (Nov. 23, 1997) at her home in Klemme.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner, with the Rev. John Hemann as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Garner.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today with a rosary by the Rosary Society at 4:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Beverly Ann Sinnwell, the daughter of Roger E. and Margaret "Jean" (Clemen) Palmer, was born Oct. 13, 1961, at Manchester. After graduating from West Delaware High School in 1980, she worked in the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She moved to Mason City where she worked at the Good Shepherd Health Center and then as food director at Newman High School. On March 5, 1983, she was married to Steven J. Sinnwell at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Manchester. In 1992, they moved to Miller and then Klemme. She had been employed at the Garner-Hayfield Community Schools since 1992 as the food service director. She also worked part-time at Concord Care Center in the dietary department. Beverly enjoyed her family, camping, sewing and cooking. She had been a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for several years.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, C.D. of A. and Rosary Society and was a C.C.D. teacher, an officer on the State of Iowa Commodity Council Board and a board member of the State of Iowa School Food Service Association.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Sinnwell of Klemme; her children, Autumn Ackerley of St. Joseph, Mo., Hannah Sinnwell of Klemme, Kayleen Sinnwell of Klemme and Laura Sinnwell of Klemme; her parents, Roger and Jean Palmer of Manchester; her brothers and sisters, Rick Palmer and his wife, Pat, of Manchester, Shirley Rempt and her husband, Bill, of Manchester, Lyle Palmer and his wife, Janice, of Manchester, Ann Wilson and her husband, Mike, of Delhi, Cheryl Grant and her husband, Dan, of Cedar Rapids, and Brian Palmer and his wife, CeAnn, of Manchester; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Catholic Church, Beloit, with Father Bill Connell and her nephew, Father John Burnett from Springfield, Ill., concelebrating. Burial will be held in Mount Thabor Cemetery.

A Beloit resident since 1961, Waunelle was born July 23, 1924, in Nashville, Ga., the daughter of Bennett and Lizzie Bowen. She was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Waunelle married George H. Franklin on June 1, 1955, in Biloxi, Miss.

Waunelle was a homemaker and tireless caregiver. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the church Marian Guild, prior choir member, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a pink lady at Beloit Memorial Hospital, and a former Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband, George; her daughters, Joyce M. Franklin at home, and Mary E. (Chris) Franklin-Cox of Viroqua, Wis.; two grandsons, Adam Cox and Leo Cox, both of Viroqua; sister, Clara Dell York of Tallahassee, Fla; brother, Bennett H. Bower of Miami, Fla.; cousins and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her parents.

Gladys K. Lugar was born Dec. 22, 1905, in Dougherty, daughter of James and Susan (Noss) Cunningham. She married Kenneth William Lugar on Nov. 17, 1925, in Dougherty.

Gladys grew up in Dougherty and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School in 1924. She attended Iowa Teachers School and then taught for a short time before her marriage. She and her husband farmed in the surrounding area until his death in 1982.

Gladys enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Cecelia Circle.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Eileene) Petersen of Mason City; three sons, Robert Lugar and his wife, Anna Mae, of Mason City, Bernard Lugar and his wife, Dolores, of La Crosse, Wis., and William Lugar and his wife, Jane, of Mason City; three sisters, Fran Klatt of Mason City, Rose Gaubatz of Mason City, and Sister Mary Paschal of Dubuque; one sister-in-law, Lilly Mae Lugar of Detroit, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

CHARLES CITY — Duane R. Troge, 63, of #63 Bayou Dr., Nashua, died Sunday (Nov. 23, 1997) at his place of business, The Home Base, Charles City, after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main and Gilbert Streets, Charles City. The Rev. Karen Rask Behling, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens, south of Charles City, with graveside military rites conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Duane Ronald Troge was born May 19, 1934, in Charles City, the son of Fred A. and Elsie M. (Morisch) Troge. He attended school in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1953. On June 18, 1953, Duane entered the United States Marine Corps. He served in Korea until being honorably discharged on July 1, 1956. Upon his return to the United States, he enrolled at Hamilton Business College in Mason City. Following his graduation, Duane began a career as a salesman in the construction supplies field, primarily with Mason City Builders and Northwestern Portland Cement of Mason City.

On Aug. 8, 1964, he was united in marriage to Gretchen Evenelle Kittelson. In 1980, Duane left the field of construction supply sales to begin a life-long dream. It was at that time he opened The Home Base on Main Street in Charles City. He owned and operated The Home Base until his death last Sunday. Duane was a member of Ducks Unlimited, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #418, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1011, all of Charles City. Duane was a fine football and baseball player during his high school days. He carried that love of all sports throughout his life.

Living family members include his wife, Gretchen; a son, Troy Troge of Ossian; a daughter and her husband, Tracy and Dean Barth of Decorah; three grandchildren, Kyle Troge and Jacinda and Jania Barth; and three brothers, Eldon Troge of Green Bay, Wis., Verle Troge of Orange, Calif., and Clair "Pug" Troge of St. Paul, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Keith.

Elma A. Edwards was born Sept. 7, 1911, in Fertile, the daughter of Frank and Lena (Erickson) Jenkins. She attended Fertile schools.

Elma was married to Silas Edwards on Sept. 14, 1930, in Miller. Silas and Elma lived in Kensett where Silas was employed at the Boyette Construction Company and Elma cooked for the construction firm for years. In 1948, they moved from Kensett to Manly and Elma worked for Jacob E. Decker and Sons in Mason City. In 1958, they moved to Mason City and Elma retired from Deckers in 1973. Elma enjoyed spending time with her family, playing gin and doing crafts. She was a wonderful cook.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Basgall of Mason City; one son, Arlyn "Tuppy" Edwards of Mason City; four grandchildren, David Basgall of Mason City, Vickey Basgall of Mason City, Rick Edwards of Atlanta, Ga., and Diane Hufftedler of Mason City; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

MASON CITY — Ethel Evangeline Hof, 96, died Saturday (Nov. 15, 1997) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Ethel E. Hof was born May 29, 1901, in Cleburne, Kan., the daughter of Anton and Olivia (Bergren) Johnson. She married Harold H. Hof on June 2, 1935, in Vermillion, S.D.

Ethel graduated from Randolph High School, Randolph, Kan., in 1920, and graduated from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kan., in 1933. She taught high school in Minnesota and South Dakota. Ethel lived in Waverly for 31 years until moving to Mason City in 1977.

Ethel enjoyed making crossword puzzles and she had many puzzles published. She also enjoyed cross-stitching and was an avid bridge player and reader. She was a life-long Lutheran and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Harold Howard Hof and his wife, Barbara, Mason City; one sister, Ruby Larson, Scandia, Kan.; three grandchildren, Matthew Hof and his wife, Shannon, Altoona, James Hof, Mason City, and Jennifer Kooker and her husband, Eric, Iowa City; three great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nicholas Hof, Mason City, and Valerie Kooker, Iowa City; seven step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1981, and one brother, Gaylord Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W., with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Jeri was born March 26, 1936, in Ruthven, the daughter of Howard and Lillian (Prew) Prather. She graduated from Ruthven High School in 1955, and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She worked as a secretary before her marriage, and as a unit clerk in the Mercy Birth Center at North Iowa Mercy Health Center from 1981 until 1995.

She married Jim Fountas on Jan. 22, 1956, at the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration, Mason City.

Jeri’s greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed counted-cross stitch, was an avid reader and loved music. Jeri was very active in her church, and openly shared her faith with many friends and family members.

Jeri is survived by her husband, Jim Fountas, Mason City; two children, George Fountas, Mason City, and Laurie Lichman and her husband, Tim, Mason City; two grandchildren, Sarah Beth Fountas and Jared James Lichman, both of Mason City; four sisters, Phyllis Henaman, Patricia McLarville and her husband, Ray, her twin sister, Bernadine Rodemeyer and her husband, Ken, all of Mason City, and Rosemary Dick and her husband, Gaylen, Milford; one brother, Jack Prather and his wife, Bonnie, Mason City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arlyne Virginia Gasaway was born March 27, 1921, in Jasper, Minn., the daughter of Leonard and Ada (Gillaland) Jackson. She married Donald Gasaway on Feb. 24, 1941, in Manly.

Arlyne grew up in Manly and graduated from Manly High School in 1938. She had many cats and enjoyed raising flowers. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly.

Survivors include her husband, Donald L. Gasaway, Mason City; one son, Donald Dennis Gasaway, Marion, Ill.; one sister, Colleen Dillon and her husband, Kenneth, of Fulsom, Calif.; two brothers, Delbert Jackson and his wife, Jeanette, St. Marys, Idaho, and Dale Jackson and his wife, Lucille, of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother-in-law, John Gasaway, Concord, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Barb Gasaway, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

Corinna Hawf was born Feb. 15, 1916, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Clarence Augustus Joseph Ball was born on Oct. 4, 1943, in New York City, N.Y., the son of Clarence and Catherine (Holnik) Ball. He attended and received his education in the New York City school system. After completing his formal education and throughout his life, he worked as a laborer for various companies throughout the United States, and also, along with his wife, Janis, delivered the Des Moines Register newspaper in Clear Lake. He was united in marriage to Janis Fish on Aug. 4, 1968, in Las Vegas, Nev.

He enjoyed bingo, listening to music and visiting different areas in North Iowa, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janis Ball, of Clear Lake; three daughters, Sara Ball of San Diego, Calif., Wendy Shahan and her husband, Don, of Northwood, and Debbie Ball of Clear Lake; one son, Dennis Ball of Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Megan and Erin Shahan of Northwood; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dorothy was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Otto and Hazel (Winicott) Nash. She attended school here in Mason City. Dorothy married Vernon "Beanie" C. Moon on Aug. 3, 1948, in Chicago, Ill. Dorothy worked at the Troika Supper Club for nine years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and Military Order of the Cooties. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, puzzles, music and spending time with her family.

Survivors include five daughters: Darlene Fredrickson and her husband, Robert, of Mason City, Charlotte Nack and her husband, Richard, of Grafton, Linda Barnhart and her husband, Terry, of Buffalo, Wyo., Carolyn Hanson and her husband, Merle, of South Carolina, and Denise French and her husband, Bill, of Buffalo Center; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Miller and his wife, Dorthea, of Manly; one sister, Mary Lou Schomers and her husband, Jerry, of Arlington, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, John Rothamel of Mason City.

Jerry M. Craig

DENVER, Colo. — Jerry M. Craig, 73, died Thursday (Nov. 13, 1997) in Denver.

A family memorial service will be held in Iowa.

Jerry was born March 31, 1924, in Plum Creek Township, Iowa. She married John H. Craig on April 29, 1945, in Mason City. She was employed as an insurance agent working for Merilyn Smith Insurance Agency in Colorado Springs until her retirement.

She was a member of Former County Mutual Insurance Agents in Iowa and a past member of the Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Colorado. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs since 1979.

Survivors include one son, Larry D. Craig of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Penny L. Dalluge of Mason City; one sister, Janice Brinkman of New Hartford; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Memorial contributions may be given to local animal welfare societies.

Elmer G. Messelheiser

MESERVEY — Elmer G. Messelheiser, 80, of 111 N. Ninth St., Clear Lake, died Monday (Nov. 17, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Rodney Meester of First Reformed Church, Meservey, officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elmer was born Feb. 22, 1917, on the family farm, rural Meservey, the son of William and Frieda (Drew) Messelheiser. He graduated from Meservey High School.

Elmer farmed after graduating from high school and then married Mae Elizabeth Strasburg. He served in the Army during World War II. Following the service, he came back to Meservey and continued to farm. He later operated a Standard Oil bulk truck for 10 years and then farmed from 1958-1966. They then moved back to Meservey and he was a millwright worker until his retirement. Elmer married Jeralynn Haspany Dec. 11, 1991, in Albert Lea, Minn.

Elmer was a nature boy, enjoyed growing herbs, gardening, trout fishing, hunting, canine companions, helping other people and his bees. He was a avid collector.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Jeralynn Haspany of Clear Lake; three children, Janet Messelheiser of Melbourne, Australia, Robert Messelheiser and his wife, Julie, of Altoona and Dean Messelheiser and his wife, Becky, of Niceville, Fla.; three stepchildren, Pam Kellogg and her husband, Doug, of Clear Lake, Beth Cooley and her husband, Brian, of Boulder, Colo., and Ginger Sullivan and his husband, Thaddeus, of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren, Bret Messelheiser, Dawn Ledin, Heidi Messelheiser, Landon Messelheiser, Matthew Messelheiser, Emily Messelheiser, Levi Kellogg and Logan Kellogg; and one great-grandchild, Caitlan Messelheiser.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and his first wife, Mae, in 1987.

Earl Boehnke

VENTURA — Earl Boehnke, 86, died Sunday (Nov. 16, 1997) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Garner, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Earl Emil Harold Boehnke, the son of Julius and Anna (Pueggel) Boehnke, was born July 4, 1911, on a farm northeast of Garner. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church on July 30, 1911, and confirmed on April 5, 1925. He attended St. John’s Parochial School. On Jan. 27, 1956, he was married to Laura O. Hollatz at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, St. Louis Park, Minn. They farmed with Earl’s brother, Lawrence, northeast of Garner and later with their son, Tom, until retiring form active farming in 1983. The farm has been recognized as a Century Farm. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and farming, especially raising sheep and driving his pickup to look at the crops in the area.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Lutheran Layman’s League and had played trombone in the St. John’s Orchestra. He was also an honorary member of the Ventura FFA Chapter and past-president of the Clear Lake Shipper’s Association.

He is survived by his wife, Laura O. Boehnke of Ventura; a son, Tom Boehnke and his wife, Janet, and their children, Kara Joy, Shanna Sue, Brittany Lou and Kevin Thomas, all of Ventura; a sister-in-law, Edna Boehnke; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence Boehnke and his wife, Alitza, George Boehnke and Arnold Boehnke in infancy; and a sister, Elsie Dressel, and her husband, the Rev. Oscar Dressel.

The family of Naomi L. Lau has requested that memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Myrtle, Minn., or to the charity of one’s choice in her memory.

Naomi L. Lau was born on Oct. 13, 1906, the daughter of Alex and Elsie (Wilde) Will, in Shell Rock Township, near Myrtle, Minn. She was baptized and affirmed her Christian faith by rite of confirmation at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She was united in marriage to Edwin Alex Lau on June 4, 1930, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1995. They were privileged to celebrate 65-plus years of marriage and to be blessed with a son, Donald, and a daughter, Darlene.

After their marriage, they resided on the farm Edwin was born on and remained there until Naomi’s health began to fail. She became a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood this spring and died there on Monday, Nov. 17.

Naomi had a "green thumb" and was always happy to share her roses and gladiolus with friends and her church. She was blessed with a wonderful memory and always knew birthdays and anniversaries of relatives and friends. Naomi had always been active in assisting her husband in farming and was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her church at Bethlehem Lutheran and was a member of the Women of the church.

She is survived by her son, Donald Lau, and his friend, Linda Bighley, of Glenville, and her daughter, Darlene Kvam, and her husband, Lee, of Northwood. Also surviving are three grandsons, Michael Lau and his wife, Christine, of Glenville, Jason Kvam of Owatonna, Minn., and his fiancee, Lisa Bublitz, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Brian Kvam of Northwood; one sister, Ione Hanson and her husband, Alvin, of Albert Lea, Minn.; her sister-in-law, Leona Harder, and her husband, Fred, of Correctionville; six nieces and one nephew; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law, Herman and Bertha Lau, daughter-in-law, Joice Lau, brother, Lloyd Will, and infant sister and brother, Gladys and Arnold Will; sister-in-law, Clara, and her spouse, Otto Ewald; brother-in-law, Roland Schuhmacher; and nieces, Viola Vandenburg, Adeline Ewald, Adeline Schuhmacher and Susan Young.

 

 

 

John Rustemier

BANCROFT — John Rustemier, 51, of Bancroft, died Saturday (Nov. 15, 1997) at Mankato, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church, Bancroft, with the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Church Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by members of Bancroft American Legion Post No. 337.

There will be no visitation. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John was born March 7, 1946, in Brancroft.

Survivors include two brothers, Dennis Rustemier of Lakota and Paul Rustemier of Houston, Texas; and three sisters, Mary Ann Coady of Bancroft, Phyllis Savage of Ft. Dodge and Jean Konvalinka of Ft. Dodge.

Douglas M. Fogerty

MELBOURNE, Australia — Douglas M. Fogerty, 52, died Nov. 10 (1997) at his home of an intra-cerebral hemorrhage.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. Arne Bergland officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to the Douglas M. Fogerty Memorial Fund.

Douglas was born Sept. 26, 1945, at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, Colo., where his father, the late Robert Fogerty, was stationed with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After the war, the family moved to Lake Mills and later to Forest City, Iowa. He was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Douglas was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in Sunday school and Luther League. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1963. He enjoyed the Symphonic Band and was sports editor for the Masonian school newspaper. He greatly enjoyed music, the arts, communication skills and writing.

He attended St. Olaf College and later served four years in the U.S. Navy, including a period of active duty in Vietnam. Before the tour of duty, the U.S.S. Ajax was home-ported in Sasabo, Japan, where Douglas met his wife, Terumi Inoue. After the war, they renewed their friendship and love. Returning to the United States, they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church. On June 24, 1997, they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Douglas and Terumi then began their life together in Iowa City, where they both attended the University of Iowa. Douglas completed his B.A. degree and continued on to earn his M.A. degree in educational psychology. He was employed by the University of Iowa College of Dentistry for eight years in the field of educational design and development. For the past 17 years, Douglas and his family had made their home in Melbourne, Australia, where he was senior advisor in the Division of Educational Media and Design for Telstra Australia, Ltd.

Survivors include his wife, Terumi Imoue Fogerty of Melbourne; son, Gen Michael Fogerty, a student at the University of Iowa; daughter, Naomi Louise Fogerty, at home in Melbourne; mother, Lois C. Fogerty of Mason City; and two brothers, Dr. Richard A. Fogerty of Seattle, Wash., and Steven M. Fogerty of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Fogerty, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

 

 

Julia E. (Stager) Green

GREENE — A funeral Mass for Julia E. (Stager) Green, 88, of No. 2 High School Blvd., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary service.

Julia Elizabeth Stager was born Aug. 11, 1909, in Greene, the only daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Squires) Stager, and died Monday (Nov. 17, 1997) at her home in Greene.

She lived in Greene most of her life with exceptions during her youth when her parents moved to Pasco, Wash., and LeMars, Iowa. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Greene and graduated from the Greene High School in 1927. She attended the University of Iowa where she studied music and was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority.

On Jan. 24, 1934, she was united in marriage to Harry Braden Green at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene. Following their marriage, Julia accompanied Harry on highway road building projects and construction of auxiliary airports in Kansas and Missouri. In 1944, they settled in Greene where they opened a limestone quarry with J.H. Peterson and Tom Albrecht as partners.

She was involved in many church, civic and social activities in Greene. She was a lifelong faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Greene Federated Women’s Club of which she was a past president, the Ladies Embroidery Club of which she was a past president, Chapter CC P.E.O. Sisterhood, Round Grove Golf Women’s Association of which she was past president, and the Greene Historical Society.

Julia was gifted with a musical talent which spanned her life from the time as a young girl when she provided musical entertainment with the player piano at the family-owned Stager Cafe in Greene. She taught private piano lessons for many years and later taught several of her grandchildren. Her talents will be remembered by her family and many friends. Her other interests included attending numerous Elderhostels and traveling world-wide to broaden her horizons and appreciate various cultures.

Living family members include two daughters, Annette and Gerald Reifschneider of Minneapolis, Minn., and Sara Jane Rottler of Greene; one son, Tom and Poulet Green of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren; T.J. Nagy, Kevin "Kip" Nagy, Julie and her husband, Phil Christman, Brad and his wife, Rhonda Rottler, Mark Rottler, Jeff Rottler, Tom Rottler, Angie Rottler, Tyler Green and Cameron Green; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Robbie and Jennifer Jean Rottler, Madeline Rose and Jackson Christman. She is also survived by two stepgrandsons, Tony Auge and Timm Reifschneider.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband on April 23, 1971.

RICEVILLE — Clyde Wheeler, 83, died Monday (Nov. 17, 1997) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center.

Clyde Wheeler was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Mitchell County.

Survivors include three sons, Dean Wheeler of Delaven, Ill., Harlo Wheeler of LeRoy, Minn., and Loren Wheeler of Byron, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Kellogg of McIntire and Olive Trettin of Grafton.

Elsa Louise Lydia Schmeling was born Aug. 29, 1904, in Lotts Creek Township, the daughter of Henry and Emma Rambath. She married Erwin Schmeling on Oct. 10, 1923, in Lotts Creek Township. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1976.

Survivors include 10 children, Warren and Joan Schmeling of Willow River, Minn., Verona Whitcher Canaday of Algona, Eugene and Louise Schmeling of Emmetsburg, June and Jim Schultz of Garner, Yvonne and Walt Wosje of Milford, Mary and Dick Reinhart of Ft. Margaret Mary Perkey was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Macintosh, S.D., the daughter of Edward Joseph and Jennie Ruth (Kisner) Stork. She was married to Charles King in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1957. In 1964, she married James Perkey and he preceded her in death in 1984.

Margaret grew up in Clear Lake and graduated from Holy Family High School in 1927. She worked for Younkers in Ottumwa, Des Moines and Mason City for many years. While living in Michigan she worked at Jacobsen Department Store until retiring and returning to Clear Lake. Margaret was an avid reader and she enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Balek, Mason City, and Sister Priscilla Stork, OSF, Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one sister, Genevieve Katz; and two brothers, Jim and Frank Stork.

DOUGHERTY — Norbert Francis Boyle, 81, of Rockaway, Oregon, formerly of Dougherty, died Sunday (Nov. 16, 1997) in Rockaway.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's By The Sea at Rockaway Beach, Oregon, with the Rev. Cosmos White, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will be in Oceanview Cemetery, Warrenton, Oregon.

Norbert F. Boyle was born June 6, 1916, in Dougherty, the son of David M. and Susan (Dougherty) Boyle.

He attended St. Patrick's School, Dougherty, and graduated in 1934. He graduated from the University of Portland in 1939 with a B.A. degree in economics.

Norbert worked for O.K. Tire and Rubber Co. in Vancouver, Wash., and later became involved in the golf course business. In 1971 he became a part owner of Seaside Golf Course, Seaside, Oregon, and in 1977 bought the Alderbrook Golf Course in Tillamook, Oregon, which he owned and operated until retiring.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta, Rockaway, Oregon; two daughters, Sue Boyle and Sister Chauncey Boyle, both of Seattle, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Toni Pagenstacker, Portland, Oregon; a stepson, Neal Abrahamson, Tillamook, Oregon; seven grandchildren; two brothers, David Boyle and his wife, Colleen, Mason City, and Donald Boyle, of Oxford, England.
