Orval Henry Kingery

GREENE  



Funeral services for Orval Henry Kingery, 84, of 305 N. Main,

will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church,

with Pastor Gene A. Burry officiating. Burial will be in the

Rose Hill Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral

Chapel, where there will be a public Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Visitation will continue one hour before services on Monday at

the church.



Orval Henry Kingery was born Dec. 17, 1912, in rural Union Township,

Floyd County, a son of Lewis and Martha (Wyatt) Kingery and died

Thursday (April 3, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital,

Charles City, from complications of hip surgery.



He received his education in the rural Coldwater Township schools

and was baptized in early childhood and later became a member

of the Church of the Brethren.



As a young man, he worked on the family farm.



On March 10, 1935, he was united in marriage to Alice Virginia

Hunter at his parents' home in rural Greene.



Orval and Alice farmed in rural Butler and Franklin counties

from 1936 to 1953 when they moved into Greene where he became

employed by the Farmers Inc. Coop Society where he remained until

his retirement in 1983.



Living family members include his loving wife of 62 years, Alice,

of Greene; two daughters and their spouses, Mary V. and John

Aswegan of Nashua, Bertha L. and Sherwin Smith of Shell Rock;

two sons and their spouses, Eldred E. and Charla Kingery of Buffalo,

N.Y., and Leroy V. and Deborah Kingery of Douglas, Wyo.; two

daughters-in-law, Lois Holtz of Prescott, Ariz., and Joyce Barry

of Charles City; one sister-in-law, Maude Kingery of Greene;

18 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren;

four stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.



He was preceded in death by three sons, Robert and Henry, both

in 1966; and Gary in 1987; two daughters-in-law, Nancy in 1989

and Leah in 1992; a granddaughter-in-law, Rhonda Aswegan in 1986;

his parents; and one brother, Vern Kingery in 1984.



Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials

to the Orval Henry Kingery Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Pearl Ione Bebee

ROBINS 



Pearl Ione Bebee, 103, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care

Center, Cedar Rapids, died Monday (March 31, 1997), after a short

illness.



Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at

the Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Nick Shrope officiating.

Burial was held in Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.



Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2,

at the Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion.



Pearl was born the daughter of James A. and Charlotte Cronk

Hoover on Oct. 18, 1893, in Robins.



On Oct. 30, 1915, she married Nelson W. Bebee in Marion.



A lifelong resident of Robins, she was a member of Robins Church

of the Brethren, Robins Art Club, Robins Homemakers and Canasta

Club.



A memorial fund has been established for Church of the Brethren

in Robins.



Survivors include a son, Dale Bebee and his wife, Zella Mae,

of Lee's Summit, Mo.; a daughter, Nyleene Knapp and husband,

Perry, of Lake Mills; a sister, Bess Emmons of Naples, Fla.;

a brother, Ralph Hoover and his wife, Blanch, of Elkader; a daughter-in-law,

Beulah Bebee of Marion; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nelson, in

1969; three sons, Raymond, Robert and Melvin Bebee; four brothers,

John, Carl, Ted and James Hoover; and two sisters, Leah and Frances.

Arthur `Art' Edwin Petersen

MANLY 



Arthur ``Art'' Edwin Petersen Sr., 87, of Manly, died Thursday

(April 3, 1997) at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.



Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Bride

Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., with the Rev. David Olson

of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.



Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the Calvary Cemetery,

Omaha, Neb.



Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday until time of services

at the chapel.



Arthur E. Petersen was born Aug. 10, 1909, in Nora Springs,

the son of Nickolas and Meta (Hahn) Petersen.



He attended and received his education in the Nora Springs school

system.



After completing his schooling, he joined the U.S. Army at the

age of 18 and served his country honorably for nine years.



After his honorable discharge, he lived in Omaha, Neb., and

worked as a machinist for Jubilee and Vickers Mfg. Company for

30 years.



He was united in marriage to Hilda Janak in Omaha, Neb. She

preceded him in death. They were parents of two daughters, Arlene

and Joan and one son, Arthur E. Petersen Jr.



He was united in marriage to Tillie (Christiansen) Petersen

on Oct. 7, 1972, in Manly and had lived in Manly for 24 years.



He had been a resident of the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation

Center in Manly since December of 1995.



Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tillie Petersen

of Manly; one son, Arthur E. Petersen Jr. and his wife, Sharon,

of Omaha, Neb.; six stepchildren, Mary Louise Byington and her

husband, Marvin, of Clear Lake; John Maynard Petersen and his

wife, JoAnne, of Woodland Park, Colo.; Pauline Bahnsen and her

husband, Westly, and Margaret Sabin and her husband, Paul, all

of Mason City, Marvin Petersen and his wife, Anita, of Waukon,

and Tom Petersen and his wife, Macelyn, of Fresno, Calif.; three

grandsons; one great-granddaughter; 17 stepgrandchildren; 19

stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepsisters, Luella Kaldenberg of

Mason City, and Viola Bailey of Nora Springs; and two stepbrothers,

Leonard and Clarence Christiansen, both of Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, John

Christiansen; his first wife, Hilda; two daughters, Arlene and

Joan; two brothers, Carson William and Arnold Petersen; and two

stepsisters, Elsie Tibbets and Minnie Stupka.

Marion M. Meyers

ALGONA  



Marion M. Meyers, 61, of Algona, died Friday (April 4, 1997)

at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. Monday at the Chapel

of the Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cliff Isaacson officiating.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.



Visitation will begin after 7 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home,

and after 9 a.m. Sunday until time of services on Monday at the

funeral chapel.



Marion M. Meyers was born Dec. 25, 1935, at Algona.



Survivors include her husband, John ``Tugboat'' Meyers of Algona;

one daughter, Mary Ann Durbaugh, Dayton, Ohio; two sons, Ronald

of Irvington, and Frank of Gothenberg, Neb.; nine grandchildren;

one great-granddaughter; her father, Delbert Fausnaugh, West

Bend; and four sisters, Joann Frederickson of Eagle Grove; Inis

Lamb and Gladys Monson, both of Algona, and Lorraine Anderson

of Woolstock.



She was preceded in death by her mother, one son and three brothers.

Selma Anderson, 94, of Titonka, died Friday (April 4, 1997)

at the Titonka Care Center, Titonka.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grant Lutheran

Church, north of Woden, with the Rev. Keith Klemm officiating.



Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Paddock

Bethel Cemetery in Sebeka, Minn.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo

Funeral Chapel, Woden.



Selma Norene Anderson was born Aug. 23, 1902, on a farm in Linden

Township, Winnebago County.



Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine Paurus of Minneapolis,

Minn.; Mavis Hansen of Duluth, Minn., and Adeila Bilyeu of Woden;

one son, Roger Anderson of Heron Lake, Minn.; 14 grandchildren;

and 20 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters

and three brothers.

Raymond C. Stewart, 79, of 601 Liberty St., died Friday (April

4, 1997) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.



Funeral services are tentatively set at 10:30 a.m. Monday at

the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with

the Rev. Blair Rohde-Frank, pastor of the Grace United Methodist

Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.



Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday

morning prior to services at the funeral home, where other arrangements

are incomplete.

MASON CITY  



Donald L. Redeker, 67, of 2224 20th St. S.W., died Thursday

(April 3, 1997) at his home from complications due to cancer.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First

Assembly of God Church with Pastor David French and Pastor Greg

Youmans officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Major-Erickson Funeral

Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services

at the church on Tuesday. There will be a Moose Lodge Serivce

at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.



The family suggests memorials to the Donald L. Redeker Memorial

Fund.



Donald L. Redeker was born May 26, 1929, in Mason City, the

son of Ferdinand Redeker and Irene Helmer Redeker Boock. Don

graduated from Plymouth High School in 1948, where he lived with

his grandparents, Irving and Tina Helmer. He married Ruth A.

Davis Lindsey on Sept. 2, 1950, in Mason City. Don worked at

the Armour Food Plant for 33 years, retiring in November of 1983.

He then worked for the Mason City Parks until September of 1994,

when he retired due to health problems.



Don was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and was

baptized there on May 16, 1966. He loved attending church and

gave his heart to the Lord. He was a member of local P38, a lifetime

member of the Moose Lodge and Senior Citizens.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife and children around the country

as well as baseball, bowling, pool and fishing, especially his

trips to Canada and the Mississippi River. He loved getting together

with friends and family, especially the grandchildren's birthday

parties. Don had a great love for horses and he often went to

see his grandson's horses.



Survivors include his wife, Ruth A. Redeker of Mason City; his

mother, Irene Redeker Boock of Manly; two sons, James William

Redeker Sr,. and his wife, Sandy, of Mason City, and Randy Redeker

and his wife, Doreen, of Mason City; three daughters, Deanna

Raprager and husband, Louis ``Butch'' of Mason City, Kathy Jo

Loeckle and husband, Wesley, of Mason City; Peggy Vega and husband,

Roy, of Mason City; 13 grandchildren, Troy Loeckle and his wife,

Jenny, of Charles City, Douglas Joyner Jr. of Ruston, Wis., Tim

Joyner and his wife, Tammy, of Tacoma, Wash., Jeremy Zawlocki

of Rockford, Ill., Louis ``Chip'' Raprager III of Long Beach,

Calif., James Redeker Jr. and his wife, Mindy, of Mason City,

Cory Redeker and friend, Dionne Fett, of Mason City, Carrie Schultz

of Mason City, Greg Joyner and wife, Ginger, of Mason City, Brenda

Dusheck and husband, Jesse, of Mason City, Geri Vega and Scott

home in Mantorville, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral

Minnie Brown Kiefer was born April 15, 1917, in rural Raciene,

Mower County, Minn.

Minn.; one son, Gerald Kiefer of Marble Rock; four grandchildren;

five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bertha Moore of Eureka,

Calif., Bernice Hamer of Cedar Rapids, and Ramona Schafer of

Greene; three brothers, Russell Brown of St. Charles, Minn.,

Alonzo Brown of Dodge Center, Minn., and Gerald Brown of Marion.



She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and two

brothers.

and 12 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Olga Dorthea Olson, 87, died Saturday (April 5, 1997) at the

Lutheran Retirement Home.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Deer Creek

Lutheran Church in Carpenter with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating.

Burial will be in the Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder

& Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood.



Olga was born on Feb. 4, 1910, in Barton Township, Worth County,

the daughter of Ole L. and Mary Knutson Anderson. She was baptized

and confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. She graduated

from Carpenter High School in 1929. Olga married Melvin A. Olson

on April 23, 1930, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

They lived in Mason City until moving to the farm near Carpenter

in 1942. Olga later moved to Northwood in 1980.



Olga was active in the ELCW as a circle member and the Carpenter

Friendship Club. She enjoyed family gatherings, her grandchildren,

church activities, quilting and handwork.



Olga is survived by one daughter, Carol, and her husband, Caryl

Rohrer, of Clarion; four sons, Arnold, and his wife, Mary Kay,

of Minneapolis, Minn., Keith, and his wife, Sandra, of Glenville,

Minn., James, and his wife, Judy, of Northwood, and Roger Olson

of St. Ansgar; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers,

Leonard, Olaf and Anton.

Colonel Mohamed Joshua Beshir, 59, of 18 12th St. S.E., died

The family suggests memorials to the Joshua Beshir Memorial

Fund.



Joshua Beshir was born Sept. 12, 1937, in Cairo, Egypt, the

son of Abd-El-Haleen and Tafeeta (El-Naggar) Beshir. Joshua received

his degree from Military University in Egypt.  He served in the

Egyptian military and retired as a colonel. Joshua immigrated

to the United States in December of 1981. On Nov. 26, 1982, he

married Mary Stensrud here in Mason City. Initially, Joshua was

in business, but in the late 1980's, he pursued missionary work

and later became a missionary for the Central District of the

Evangelical Free Church of America. Joshua became a citizen of

the United States in 1987. He enjoyed reading and painting and

loved his two daughters very much.



Survivors include his wife, Mary Beshir of Mason City; daughters,

Tafeeta and Safia at home; sisters, Ikram Beshir of Egypt, Naguiba

Beshir and husband, Abdel Monem Wahab, of Egypt, Safia Beshir

and husband, Maher Fahteen, of Egypt, Zenab Beshir of Egypt,

and Soad Beshir of Egypt; brother-in-law, Maynard Stensrud and

wife, Sara, of Waseca, Minn., brother-in-law, Mike Stensrud and

wife, Laura, of Lake Mills, sister-in-law, Trena Martinson and

husband, Brad, of Fergus Falls, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Naguib

Beshir; one sister, Ida Beshir; and one infant brother, Nabil

Beshir.

Donald L. Murl was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Mason City, the son

of George R. and Anna Erma (Shaw) Murl. Donald attended Mason

City Schools. He worked at Lehigh Portland Cement Company and

at Jacob E. Decker and Sons until the buyout occurred. He then

worked for the Americana Nursing Home in the maintenance department

and also was self-employed as a concrete contractor for many

years. He was married to Patricia G. Toinbee on May 29, 1949,

in Elma.



He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and the Armour

Union.



Survivors include three daughters, Sue Hesley and her husband,

Les, of Mason City, Berma Cummings of Manly, and Becky Murl of

Mason City; one son, Rusty Murl and his wife, Barb, of Indianola;

one step-son, Rex ``Butch'' Robertson and his wife, Connie, of

Mason City; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law,

Becky Kellar of Mason City; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Murl of

Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia,

in 1972; one son, Richard ``Dick'' in 1987; two brothers and

three sisters.

Marcellus M. ``Sal'' Aagesen, 83, died Friday (April 4, 1997)

at the Hampton Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First

Christian Church in Hmapton with the Rev. Joe Jones officiating.

Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel

Funeral Home.



Marcellus M. ``Sal'' Aagesen was born April 10, 1913, in Coulter.



Survivors include two sons, William Aagesen of Oelwein, and

John Aagesen of Boone; one daughter, Linda Stewart of Hampton;

one brother, Dr. Walter J. Aagesen of San Jose, Calif.; five

grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.

Funeral Home.



Dick H. Siems was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Butler County.



Survivors include his wife, Goldie Siems of Sheffield; one son,

Ron Siems of Sheffield; five sisters, Sue Wagner of Charles City,

Tilene Humphreys of Hampton, Lu Lahner of Sheffield, Eileen Jewel

of Sheffield, and Louise Adroen of Des Moines; three brothers,

Dale Siems of Charles City, Delbert Block of Cedar Rapids, and

Ed Siems of Sheffield; and two grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and three brothers.

William J. Beland

STACYVILLE  



William J. Beland, 84, died Saturday (April 5, 1997) at the

Stacyville Community Nursing Home of natural causes.



Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the

Visitation Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating.

The body will be donated to the Anatomy Department at the University

of Iowa in Iowa City. There will be no visitation. Inurnment

will be in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville at a later date.



William was born April 27, 1912, at Loda, Ill., the son of William

A. and Kathryn (Ryan) Beland. He came to Iowa by train with his

family in 1918. He lived in Charles City and later moved to Burr

Oak Township. He married Martha Meyerhofer on Aug. 28, 1940,

at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. They lived in

Union Township near Stacyville where William owned and operated

Beland's Dairy Farm until his retirement in 1977.  William served

as mayor of Stacyville for four years.



Survivors include his wife, Martha, of Stacyville; six sons,

John Beland, and his wife, Marcia, of Bloomington, Minn., Douglas

Beland, and his wife, Ellyn, of Oxford, David Beland and his

wife, Deborah, of Owatonna, Minn., Steven Beland and his wife,

Lorraine, of St. Ansgar, Michael Beland and his wife, Terri,

of Stacyville, and Dennis Beland and his wife, Melody, of Owatonna;

three daughters, Carol Pollock, and her husband, Jim, of Hildreth,

Neb., Susan Tan of Tampa, Fla., and Ann Beland of Chicago, Ill.;

five sisters, Margaret Heimer and Phyllis Schmidt, both of Stacyville,

Frances Beland of Minneapolis, Minn., Irene Beland of Rochester,

Minn., and Joan Schmidt of Austin, Minn.; and one brother, Ralph

Beland of North Port, Fla.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert

Beland; and one sister, Lucille Wright.

Funeral services for Minnie Kiefer, 79, of 407 East Butler,

will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral

Chapel where there will be a public scripture service at 7:30

p.m.  Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday one hour

Minnie Brown Kiefer was born April 15, 1917, in rural Racine,

Mower County, Minn., a daughter of Albert and Lottie (Griffeth)

Brown, and died Saturday (April 5, 1997) at her daughter's home

in Mantorville, Minn. under the care of Hospice.



At the age of four, Minnie and her family moved to Linn County

where she received her education in the rural schools and later

attended the Viola High School.  On Oct. 1, 1938, she was united

in marriage to Leo Kiefer at the Methodist Parsonage in Waterloo.

They started farming west of Greene and later in the Marble

Rock area until their retirement in 1977, when they moved into

Greene.



Minnie was baptized and made a member of the United Methodist

Church in Greene in 1942.  Throughout the years she was a faithful

member taking part in the United Methodist Women and teaching

Sunday school and Bible school.  She was also a member of the

Coldwater Community Club.



Her interests included knitting, crocheting and making afghans

for her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed playing the organ and

an occasional card game with family and friends.  Before Leo's

death they enjoyed traveling throughout the country.



Minnie will always be remembered as a loving and caring person

who devoted herself to her family.



Living family members include one daughter, Sharen and her husband,

Gordon Cunningham, of Mantorville, Minn.; her son, Gerald Kiefer

of Marble Rock; four grandchildren, Leon and his wife, Lois,

Lane Cunningham, LoAnah and her husband, Tony Ramer, and Earl

Kiefer; five great-grandchildren, Jackie and Cassie Cunningham,

Anthony, Alyssa and Amanda Ramer; three sisters, Bertha Moore

of Eureka, Calif., Bernice Hamer of Cedar Rapids, and Ramona

Schafer of Greene; three brothers, Russell Brown of St. Charles,

Minn., Alonzo Brown of Dodge Center, Minn., and Gerald Brown

of Marion.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Kiefer, in 1984;

two sisters, Nettie Petrusch and Letha Eggert; two brothers,

Lester Brown and Raymond Brown; and her daughter-in-law, Janet

Kiefer in 1994.

Margaret A. Helm was born March 19, 1936, in Jefferson, the

daughter of William and Alice (Carman) Nipps.  She graduated

from Cooper High School in 1954.  Margaret married Robert Helm

on June 4, 1955, in Jefferson.  In 1973, Margaret entered the

fashion business and was most recently employed by Neiman Marcus

in Phoenix at the time of her death.  She was a much beloved

wife and mother and will be greatly missed by those who came

into contact with her.



Survivors include her husband, Robert Helm, of Phoenix, Ariz.;

daughter, Marti Falk and husband, Bryan, of Atlanta, Ga.; son,

Eric Helm and his wife, Dorinda of Hardinsburg, Ind.; mother,

Alice Nipps of Jefferson; sister, Mary Hanson Harrison of Jefferson;

brother, James Nipps of Sheridan, Wy.; and five grandchildren.

Rev. Daniel D. Baker and the Rev. W. Paul Weeg, officiating.

The family of Harold Douglas Hanson has requested that memorial

contributions be made to the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church,

rural Glenville, Minn., or to the Lutheran Retirement Home in

Northwood, in his memory.



Harold Douglas Hanson was born on May 1, 1925, the son of Peter

L. and Hattie (Preston) Hanson in Freeborn County, Minn.  He

was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Deer Creek Valley

Lutheran Church of rural Glenville.  He attended and received

his elementary education in the rural Freeborn County school

system, graduating from Northwood High School in 1943, and in

October of that year enlisted in the United States Navy, serving

during World War II, and was honorably discharged in May, 1947.

He was united in marriage to Betty Kimm in Mason City.  He received

his B.S. degree at the University of South Carolina in 1948.

The Hansons purchased a farm northeast of Northwood in 1950

and farmed with his brother Paul until 1989 when he retired from

active farming due to ill health.  Harold and Betty moved to

Northwood in 1984.



He enjoyed camping, traveling, flying, music and family gatherings.



He was a member of Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church and served

as treasurer of the church 35 years and sang in the church choir

for 30 years.  He also served as Sunday School Superintendent

and teacher.  He served on the board of the Northwood Cooperative

Elevator for 12 years and was a member of the ASC Committee for

Worth County for 11 years.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty Hanson, of Northwood;

a son, Dr. David Hanson of Mason City; a daughter, Kathleen Hanson

and her husband, Jim, of Northwood; three grandchildren, Jake,

Jim and Beth Hanson of Northwood; a brother, Paul Hanson of Northwood;

three sisters, Rebecca Weeg of Shoreview, Minn., Ruth Davidson

and her husband, Marvin, of Northwood, and Rosine Johnson of

Kent, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other

relatives and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law,

Donald L. Redeker was born May 26, 1929, in Mason City, the

son of Ferdinand Redeker and Irene Helmer Redeker Boock.  Don

graduated from Plymouth High School in 1948, where he lived with

his grandparents, Irving and Tina Helmer.  He married Ruth A.

Davis Lindsey on Sept. 2, 1950, here in Mason City.  Don worked

at Armour Food Plant for 33 years, retiring in Nov. of 1983.

He then worked for the Mason City Parks until September of 1994,

when he retired due to health problems.  Don was a member of

the First Assembly of God Church and was baptized there on May

16, 1966.  He loved attending church and gave his heart to the

Lord.  He was a member of local P38, a lifetime member of the Moose

Lodge, and Senior Citizens.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife and children around the country

as well as baseball, bowling, pool and fishing, especially his

trips to Canada and the Mississippi River.  He loved getting

together with friends and family, especially the grandchildrens

birthday parties.  Don had a great love for horses and he often

went to see his grandson's horses.



Survivors include his wife, Ruth A. Redeker, of Mason City;

his mother, Irene Redeker Boock of Manly; two sons, James William

Redeker Sr. and his wife, Sandy, of Mason City, Randy Redeker

Blanche Emma (Kieslich) Janssen, the daughter of Otto Ernest

and Charlotte Daisy (Douglas) Kieslich was born April 11, 1907,

near Alexander.  She attended the Alexander Schools and was united

in marriage to Herman B. Janssen on Sept. 4, 1928, at the home

of her parents near Alexander.  They farmed together near Chapin

and later moved to Alexander, where they opened Janssen Repair

Shop until 1980.



Blanche was a member of the First Reformed Church, the RCWM

of the church, was the postal clerk in Alexander for many years,

a member of the Alexander Kitchen Klatter Band, Community Club,

Alexander Cemetery Society, helped organize the Alexander all-school

reunion in 1995, was a newspaper correspondent for the Belmond

Independent and the Hampton Chronicle, and over many years was

a caretaker for small children and the elderly in Alexander.

Roland T. ``Pete'' Zimmerman was born on July 29, 1916, in Easton,

Minn., the son of Thornton and Mabel Zimmerman.  He attended

He was united in marriage to Faith Asher on Dec. 21, 1954, in

Mason City.  For 25 years he was the owner and operator of ``Pete's

Tap'' in Albert Lea, until moving to Northwood in 1971, and was

the owner and operator of the Circus Tap and the Machine Shed

Arcadia in Northwood, and was also employed with B & K Lumber

Company in Northwood for several years until his retirement.



He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and having coffee with

his friends at the Corner Post Restaurant in Northwood.



He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood and

a former member of the Eagles Club in Albert Lea.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Faith Zimmerman, of

Northwood; daughter, Amy Campbell of Northwood; son, Scott Zimmerman

and his wife, Lynne, of St. Louis, Mo.; granddaughter Maegan

Olga was born on Feb. 4, 1910, in Barton Township, Worth County,

the daughter of Ole L. and Mary Knutson Anderson.  She was baptized

and confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter.  She

graduated from Carpenter High School in 1929.  Olga married Melvin

A. Olson on April 23, 1930, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason

City.  They lived in Mason City until moving to the farm near

Carpenter in 1942.  Olga later moved to Northwood in 1980.



Olga was active in the ELCW as a circle member, and the Carpenter

Friendship Club.  She enjoyed family gatherings, her grandchildren,

church activities, quilting and handwork.



Olga is survived by one daughter, Carol and her husband, Caryl

Rohrer, of Clarion; four sons, Arnold and his wife, Mary Kay,

of Minneapolis, Minn., Keith and his wife, Sandra, of Glenville,

Minn., James and his wife, Judy, of Northwood, and Roger Olson

of St. Ansgar; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two

brothers, Melvin Anderson and Gilbert Anderson, both of Northwood;

and one sister, Selma Anderson of Mason City.

Marian Bruce Long was born Nov. 1, 1909, in Indianapolis, Ind.,

the daughter of Howard and Charlotte Reed Bruce.



She moved to La Crosse, Wis,. at the age of 13, where she graduated

from high school.



She graduated from Monticello Seminary in Godfrey, Ill., and

Indiana University.



She moved to Mason City from Joliet, Ill., in 1934 and was married

to Kenneth F. Long in 1935.



Marian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a longtime

member of O.T. Study Club, a 50 year member of P.E.O. Chapter

DZ and a charter member of Chapter KW.



She did community work and served on the board of directors

for the YWCA and Women's Club.



Survivors include her husband, Kenneth F. Long, of Mason City;

two sons, Bruce K. Long and his wife, Diane, of Evansville, Ind.,

and Richard E. Long and his wife, Deanna, of Riverside, Calif.;

a daughter, Janet Long Ford and her husband, Robert, of Albuquerque,

N.M.; six grandchildren, Nancy Long Spivey and her husband, Michael;

Brian Long and his wife, Amy; Cindy Long, Andy Long, Wendy Long

Ray Little was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the

son of Lawrence Everett and Zelda (Phipps) Little.



Ray traveled with his family throughout the United States following

his father's military career.



Ray graduated from Fountain High School in Fountain, Colo.



He then graduated in 1958 with a B.S. degree from Brigham Young

University in Provo, Utah.



In 1960, he graduated from Colorado State College in Fort Collins

with his masters degree.



Ray then did his post masters training at the University of

Chicago, in Chicago, Ill., as a psychologist.



Ray married Nel Stockett on Dec. 20, 1960, at the Mormon Tabernacle

in Salt Lake City, Utah, and to this marriage, three children

were born.



Ray moved to Mason City in 1966 and practiced as a psychotherapist

at the North Iowa Mental Health Center, where he served as associate

director.



Ray married Pamela Carlson on Oct. 7, 1978, in Chicago, Ill.



Ray will be remembered as a compassionate and dedicated psycotherapist.



Ray also served on the board of directors at Prairie Ridge Treatment

Center for over 20 years.



Ray was a well-known calligrapher and an enthusiastic ``Hockey

Dad.''



Survivors include his wife, Pamela Little of Mason City; one

son, Scott Little at home, Mason City; three children by his

first marriage, Sandra Little, Los Angeles, Calif.; Carl Little,

Denver, Colo., and Mark Little, Aurora, Colo.; two grandchildren,

at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery,

Alice M. Nelson was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Bloomington, Ill.,

daughter of Alvin J. and Francis (Scott) Medlin.



She married Willie T. Nelson on June 26, 1931, at her parents'

home south of Ventura.



Alice grew up in Forest City and attended schools in the Forest

City area.



She and her husband farmed in the Thornton and Ventura area

for 38 years until retiring in 1970 when they moved into Ventura.



She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.



She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, fishing and reading.



She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a past member

of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thornton.



Survivors include one son, Jack Nelson and his wife, Berna,

of Alden, Minn.; three daughters, Phyllis Brozik and her husband,

Ronald, Garner; Sharon Larson and her husband, Craig, Klemme,

and Lynn Hagen and her husband, Lon, Forest City; one daughter-in-law,

Charlotte Nelson, Sunrise Beach, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-g

randchildren;

one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Doris Johnson and her

husband, Donald K., Northwood; one brother-in-law, John Onken,

Charles City; one sister-in-law, Viola Christianson, Clear Lake;

and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie,

on Feb. 25, 1989; one son, Darold Nelson in September of 1984;

three sisters, Marie Medlin, Florine Leach and Vera Onken; and

one brother, Alvin Medlin Jr.

Mr. Oliver was born in Mason City, Iowa, and had been in the

military for 37 years.



Mr. Oliver had been living in the Rio Grande Valley for 20 years.



He is survived by his wife, Aileen M. Oliver, of Weslaco; his

daughter, Lesley Faith Thomson and his son-in-law, Jim Thomson,

of Washington; his two brothers, Arvid Oliver and his wife, Mary

of Iowa, and Fred Oliver of Oregon; his two grandchildren, Michael

Icle Glendina (Leonard) Severson was born July 26, 1918, to

Arthur Leonard and Erma (Meachem) Leonard on their farm in Grant

Township, Wright County.



She graduated from Belmond High School and attended Hamilton

Business College in Mason City for two years.



She taught in several country schools including Plum Grove where

she attended grade school.



In the Little Brown Church in Nashua, on June 6, 1940, she married

Kenneth Severson. They have one son, Sidney, born June 29, 1941.



They have farmed for 53 years in Grant and Belmond townships.



Kenneth and Icle enjoyed many winters in Arizona during retirement.



Icle was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and held

office in several women's organizations. She also taught Sunday

school for many years.



Icle enjoyed genealogy and was a member of the Miles Standish

Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over

25 years.



Surviving are her husband, Kenneth; son, Sid and his wife, Sherry,

of Clarion; grandchildren, Troy Severson and his wife, Beth;

Traci and her husband, Michael Gorton; Tanya and her husband,

Kenny Scribner, Ryan Maasdam, Nick German and John German; great-

grandchildren,

Allison, Clayton and Knuton Severson, Alaina Gorton and Paige

Icle Scribner; sisters, Lova McAlpine and Arlene Allen, both

of California, and Cleona Tegland of Belmond.



Preceding her in death were her parents, Arthur and Erma Leonard

Alfred Henry Schrage

Funeral services for Alfred Henry Schrage, 88, of Dumont, wil

be 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Shell Rock

Funeral Chapel, Greene, and will continue one hour before services

Alfred Henry Schrage was born May 17, 1908, in West Point Township,

Butler County, a son of Henry C. and Marie (Wiegman) Schrage,

and died Monday (April 7, 1997) at the Dumont Care Center.



He received his education in the rural schools in West Point

Township and started farming at an early age.



On Feb. 10, 1932, he was united in marriage to Neva Mae Rector

at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison.



Alfred and Neva started farming in the rural Vilmar and Bristow

area until 1936, when they moved to the Powersville area where

they remained until 1943 when they moved to a farm in the Hansell

area.



Following their retirement in 1971, they moved into Dumont.

They spent 23 winters in Mesa, Ariz.



In 1995, they moved into Waverly where they lived until recently

entering the Shell Rock Care Center. Following Neva's death on

March 17, 1997, he entered the Dumont Care Center.



Alfred was baptized on June 21, 1908, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran

Church at Vilmar and later became a member of the United Methodist

Church.



Family and friends were very important to him, especially going

fishing and doing various activities with the grandchildren.



As a pastime, he enjoyed helping friends in the community with

carpentry projects and he took an interest in planting trees

and taking care of them.



He enjoyed the simple things in life, shelling pecans and walnuts,

and eating popcorn and ice cream.



Living family members include one son, James and his wife, Patsy

Schrage of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters and their spouses, Norma

Jean and Frank Benson of Lakeville, Minn., and Lucille and Ronald

Lewis of Faribault, Minn.; eight grandchildren and their spouses,

Jefry and Delene Schrage, Jody Schrage, James Thomas and Teri

Ann Schrage, Michael and Jesse Benson, Clinton and Kimberly Benson,

Delane Benson, Vernon and Monica Benson and Gregory James Brooks;

13 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren;

and three sisters, Laura Oltman of Allison, Erna Lawyer of Clear

Lake and Louise Wubbena of Bristow.



He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Gaylen Henry in

1936; a daughter, JoAnn Marie in 1940; his parents; and one brother,

Raymond Schrage in 1996.

Joyce Eileen Julsen was born June 17, 1931, in rural Mason City,

the daughter of Elmer H. and Florence C. (Hollenbeck) DeWitt.



She attended school at Mason City High School.



For 20 years, she assisted in nearly every aspect of the operations

of the former Flame & Embers Supper Club.



Mrs. Julsen then went to Unisys in Clear Lake. For 13 years,

she was a production aide there, retiring in 1991.



Mrs. Julsen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and

the Mary Martha Circle of the church. She was also a member of

the VFW Auxiliary of Mason City.



In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and gardening with her

flowers and vegetables. She maintained a fondness for the outdoors.

While growing up on the family farm, she helped with every chore

except the corn planting.



She will be fondly remembered by the customers of the Flame

& Embers for the happy times they shared.



Although her beloved family will miss her dearly, the memory

of her love will always be treasured by them.



Living family members include four children, Michael Julsen

and his wife, Vickie, of Solon; Bradley and Barb Julsen of Burnsville,

Minn.; Craig Julsen of Des Moines, and Darcy Julsen of Mason

City; two brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Rosemary DeWitt

of Hanlontown, and Francis and Rama DeWitt of Mason City; two

sisters, Mrs. Blanche Cline of Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. Doris

Gourley of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren, Chris, Terry,

David, Duane, Samantha and Taylor Julsen; and two great-grandchildren,

Zach and Storm.



In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two

sisters, Clarice and Iris DeWitt; and a brother, Robert DeWitt.

Harold Douglas Hanson, 71, died Sunday (April 6, 1997) at the

Lutheran Retirement Home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Deer Creek

Valley Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, Minn., with the Rev.

Daniel D. Baker and the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating.  Burial

will be in the London Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Northwood, with

military graveside honors by Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779

of Northwood.



Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Conner Colonial

Chapel, 99-11th St. South, and one hour prior to service time

today at the church.



The family of Harold Douglas Hanson has requested that memorial

contributions be made to the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church,

rural Glenville, Minn., or to the Lutheran Retirement Home in

Northwood, in his memory.



Harold Douglas Hanson was born on May 1, 1925, the son of Peter

L. and Hattie (Preston) Hanson in Freeborn County, Minn.



He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Deer Creek Valley

Lutheran Church of rural Glenville, Minn.



He attended and received his elementary education in the rural

Freeborn County school system, graduating from Northwood High

School in 1943, and in October of that year enlisted in the United

States Navy, serving during World War II, and was honorably discharged

in May 1947.



He was united in marriage to Betty Kimm on Nov. 10, 1946,

in Mason City.



He received his B.S. degree at the University of South Carolina

in 1948.



The Hansons purchased a farm northeast of Northwood in 1950

and farmed with his brother Paul until 1989 when he retired from

active farming due to ill health.  Harold and Betty moved to

Northwood in 1984.



He enjoyed camping, traveling, flying, music and family gatherings.



He was a member of Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church and served

as treasurer of the church 35 years and sang in the church choir

for 30 years.



He also served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher.



He served on the board of the Northwood Cooperative Elevator

for 12 years and was a member of the ASC Committee for Worth

County for 11 years.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty Hanson, of Northwood;

a son, Dr. David Hanson of Mason City; a daughter, Kathleen Hanson

and her husband, Jim, of Northwood; three grandchildren, Jake,

Jim and Beth Hanson of Northwood; a brother, Paul Hanson of Northwood;

three sisters, Rebecca Weeg of Shoreview, Minn.; Ruth Davidson

and her husband, Marvid, of Northwood, and Rosine Johnson of

Kent, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other

relatives and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law,

Marlin D. ``Whitey'' Olson was born in Forest City on May 20,

1932, the son of Albert N. and Mildred (Adams) Olson.



He attended school in Forest City and served in the United States

Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict.



He was married to Ellen Swanson at Immanuel Lutheran Church

on June 29, 1956.



The couple has made their home in Forest City for most of their

married lives.



Whitey was active in farming early in his life. He later began

working for the city of Forest City and continued in various

capacities for nearly 30 years.



He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family.



He liked having coffee and conversation with his friends and

was a friend to everyone he met.



He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the American

Legion.



He is survived by his wife, Ellen Olson of Forest City; a daughter

and her husband, Cindy and Kendall Bartleson of Nevada, Iowa,

and their children, Taylor and Brandon; two sons, Craig Olson

and his wife, Debby of Omaha, Neb., and their children, Kessa,

Tyler, Hayleigh and Kyle, and Clair Olson and his wife, Kris,

of Forest City and their children, Lindsay and Rachelle; a sister,

Janice Taylor of Hayward, Wis.; a brother, Ordean Olson and his

wife, Sue, of Lakota; and several nieces and nephews.
