Gladys Meyer, 83, of Woden, died Wednesday (Nov. 20, 1996)

at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.



Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Cataldo Funeral Home,

Earl A. Eichmeier

ROCKFORD



Earl A. Eichmeier, 78, of Rockford, died Tuesday (Nov. 19,

1996) at home.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Rockford

United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. on Friday until time

of services.



Schumburg Funeral Home of Rockford is in charge of arrangements.



Earl A. Eichmeier was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Floyd County, rural

Rockford.



Survivors include his brother, Dean Eichmeier, of Rockford.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

John J. Brandt, 85, of rural Osage, died Tuesday (Nov. 19,

1996) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Immanuel

Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Chris Gugel, officiating.

Burial will be held in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder

and Sites, St. Ansgar.



John J. Brandt was born March 30, 1911, in South St. Paul, Minn.



Survivors include his wife, Antonia Brandt, of Osage; three

daughters, Phyllis Sobek, of Klemme, Dorothy Weldon, of Denver,

Colo., and Jane Watson, of Kasson, Minn.; one son, Alan Brandt,

of Osage; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three great-

grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Brandt, of Osage, and Walter

Brandt, of Austin, Minn.



He was preceded in death by parents, one sister and five brothers.

Clarence Clausen, 77, of St. Ansgar, died Wednesday (Nov. 20,

1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the St.

Ansgar Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Gonnerman officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Schroeder

and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, where other arrangements

are incomplete.

GARNER



Spencer Ollenburg, 60, of Garner, died Wednesday (Nov. 20,

1996) at Rochester, Minn.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at the

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garner, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick,

officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner.

Gerald B. Fish

RIVERVIEW, Fla. 



Gerald B. Fish, 77, passed away Friday (Nov. 15, 1996) at Brandon

Community Hospital.



Memorial services for Mr. Fish will be held at 1 p.m. Friday

at the First Church of the Nazarene, 507 S. Carolina Ave., Mason

City.



C.E. Prevatt Funeral Home, Temple Terrace, Fla., is in charge

of arrangements.



Gerald B. Fish was born in Marquette, Iowa, and moved to Florida

15 years ago from Mason City. He was retired after 31 years of

service from Northwestern Cement Plant, where he was a mill operator.

Gerald was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Mason City, and

is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Tampa, Fla.



Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Ila; his sons,

Jack Fish and his wife, Portia, of New Hartford; Delbert Fish

and his wife, Paula, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Gary Fish and

his wife, Kathy, of Mason City; daughter, Donna Eckard and her

husband, Bill, of Riverview, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two

great-grandchildren.

Robert Dean Bonner

CLEAR LAKE



Robert Dean Bonner, 57, of 625 10th Ave N., Clear Lake, died

Saturday (Nov. 16, 1996) at his home.



Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ventura

United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating.

Interment was in the Ventura Cemetery.



Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake,

was in charge of arrangements.



The family suggests memorials to the Robert Dean Bonner Memorial

Fund.



Robert was born June 8, 1939, in Swaledale, the son of John

Gene and Amanda Flo (Odom) Bonner.



He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1957. Robert was

baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, in 1959.



Robert married Deanna Kaster on Nov. 11, 1962, at the E.U.B.

Church, Ventura.



He started working for David Manufacturing Co., in Mason City,

in maintenance in 1966.



While he worked at DMC, he was active in the local and district

machinist union (I.A.M.) and was local and district union secretary

and later president of local and district unions. He helped organize

the union at Andrew's Prestress Concrete. Robert helped develop

the safety program at DMC.



In 1972, he became involved as a Webelo's leader for the Boy

Scouts of America and later a scout leader.



Robert was honored by his fellow scouts and was elected in the

Order of The Arrow, established by the National Brotherhood of

Scout Honor Campers, Sac-N-Fox Lodge. He did maintenance work

and skate sharpening at the North Iowa Ice Arena, where he enjoyed

being around kids and helping them.



Robert enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to northern Minnesota,

working on cars and most of all, dancing. Together with his wife,

he was a caretaker of the Ventura Cemetery. He was a member of

Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura.



Robert is survived by his wife, Deanna Bonner, of Clear Lake;

his mother, Amanda (Flo) Bonner, of Clear Lake; six children,

Robert Eugene Bonner, of Hayfield, Anthony Joseph Bonner, and

his wife, Dawn, of Rockford, Chad Allen Bonner, Clear Lake, Angela

Ranae` Meyering and her husband, Phil, Ventura, James Bonner

and his wife, Melissa, Ardmore, Okla., and Barbara Wells and

her husband, Steve, Madill, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Betty Arnold

and her husband, Jerry, of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren, Joshua

Dean Meyering, Jacob Wayne Bonner, Jeremy Bonner, Jerrid Bonner,

Jesse Wells, Levi Wells, Elizabeth Wells, John Wells, Amanda

Wells and Amy Wells; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host

of friends.



Robert was preceded in death by his father, granddaughter, Harley

Joy Bonner; and grandparents, John and Belva Bonner and Charles

and Rozella Odom.

J. F. `Jack' Brown

MASON CITY 



J.F. ``Jack'' Brown, 73, of rural Mason City, died Tuesday (Nov.

19, 1996) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



His body was cremated. Memorial services will be held at 11

a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia

Ave., with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson and the Rev. Nils ``Chris''

Hellevik officiating. Family inurnment services will be held

at Memorial Park Cemetery.



His family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.



Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa or the charity

of your choice, in memory of J.F. ``Jack'' Brown.



Jack Brown was born May 16, 1923, at Sutherland, Iowa, son of

Lum and Carrie (Archer) Brown.



He was married to Opal Anderson in 1970 at the Little Brown

Church, Nashua.



Jack attended rural schools in Cerro Gordo County and graduated

from Mason City High School in 1940.



He began farming in Lime Creek Township. With the exception

of time spent in the army, he continued farming until his retirement.

Although retired, he continued to live on the farm.



Survivors include three sons, Steven Brown, Mike Brown and his

wife, Ann, and David Brown and his wife, Cynthia, all of Mason

City; five grandchildren, Abby, Lucy, and Maggie Brown, all of

Mason City, and Jefferson and Matthew Brown, of Mason City; one

brother, Robert Brown, rural Mason City; two sisters, Maryellen

Johnson, of Omaha, Neb., and Barbara Boggs, of Apache Junction,

Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister,

Grace Hitzhusen; and one brother, James Brown.

Arlene (Mrs. Leonard) Springer, 78, of 800 Howard St., died

Tuesday (Nov. 19, 1996) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First

Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robin Stoops officiating. Burial

will be in Riverside Cemetery.



Visitation will be held fron noon until 9 p.m. today at the

Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., and one hour prior to

services at the church.



Arlene Oma Webster Spencer was born June 14, 1918, in Saskatchewan,

Canada.



Memorials may be directed to the Heart to Home Hospice or the

First Baptist Church, both in Charles City.



Survivors include one daughter, Cheryle Cline of Webster City;

three sons, James Springer, of Portage, Wis., Dick Springer,

of Charles City, and Roger Springer, of Mason City; 16 grandchildren;

18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Webster and Maxine

Meyer, both of Charles City; and one brother, Dale Webster, of

Pasadena, Calif.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Malcolm Banker, 78, of Chapin, died Wednesday (Nov. 20, 1996)

at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral Home, Sheffield, with the Rev. Robert Beard officiating.

Burial will be in Wayside Cemetery, Chapin.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup

Funeral Home, Sheffield.



Malcolm Banker was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Chapin.



Survivors include one sister, Viola Polk, of Cedar Falls.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

John W. Griffith

CLARION 



John W. ``Jack'' Griffith, 71, of Clarion, died Thursday (Nov.

21, 1996) at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Spirit Lake.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United

Presbyterian Church, Clarion, with the Rev. Stuart Brantley officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.



Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.



Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, is in charge of arrangements.



John W. Griffith was born July 16, 1925, in Goldfield.



Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Whitman of Hot Springs,

Ark., Jaynece Tekippe of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, and Carol Chapman

of Clarion; one son, Dan Griffith, of Iowa City; 10 grandchildren;

two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernadine Wilkenson of

Sioux City, Faye Smith of Dows and Althea Douglas of Goldfield;

and two brothers, Marley Griffith of Webster City, and Larry

Griffith of Grove, Okla.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Spencer L. Ollenburg

GARNER



Spencer L. Ollenburg, 60, of Garner, died Wednesday (Nov. 20,

1996) at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23,

1996, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garner, with the Rev. Clyde

Kieschnick, officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery,

Garner.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., today at the Cataldo

Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.



Spencer Lynn Ollenburg, the son of Herbert Luther and Ruth Magdalen

(Boehnke) Ollenburg was born July 22, 1936, at Mason City.



After graduating from Garner High School in 1954, he attended

college at Iowa State University, Ames.



He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.



In 1956, he began working at Hancock County National Bank where

he served as president from 1977-90.



He completed a course of instruction from the Graduate School

of Banking, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis.



On April 14, 1963, he married Dorothea Ruth Steege at St. Paul

Lutheran Church in Garner.



They made their home and raised their family in Garner. Spencer

enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and playing cribbage!



He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had served

as chairman of the congregation, deacon, treasurer, on the church

council, sang in the choir and belonged to Bible study class.

He was a former member and past-president of the Garner Lion's

Club.



He had belonged to the American Banker's Association, the Iowa

Banker's Association, the Adult & Children With Learning Disabilities

and the Garner Chamber of Commerce.



He had been treasurer of the Garner-Hayfield Community Schools,

served as Concord Township Clerk for many years, served on the

board of directors of Duncan Heights and was a current director

of Hancock County Bank & Trust since April 4, 1969.



He is survived by three children, Herbert Andrew Ollenburg and

his wife, Linda, and their daughter, Katie, all of Rochester,

Minn., Amy Ruth Hansen and her husband, Michael, and their two

children, Benjamin and Carly, all of Aberdeen, S.D., and Susanne

Lynn Johnson and her husband, Mark, and their son, Zachary, all

of Lee's Summit, Mo.; his mother, Ruth M. Ollenburg, of Garner;

and a sister, Sylvia Ann Swale, and her husband, Dr. Ralph Swale,

of Clear Lake.



He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert L. Ollenburg,

Nov. 26, 1987.

sons, Edward Daryl Meyer, of Fort Dodge, Gary Meyer, of Garner,

and Ronnie Meyer, of Bloomington, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; eight

great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Riggle, of Crystal Lake,

and Ann Jordan, of Turlock, Calif.



She was preceded in death by one son, her parents, one brother

and one sister.

Clarence Clausen was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Riceville.



Survivors include his wife, Winifred of St. Ansgar; three daughters,

Darlene Summer, of Floyd, Alice Clausen, of Osage, and Anna Smith,

of Forest City; three sons, Martin Rasmussen, of Manly, Archie

Rasmussen and Roger Rasmussen, both of Mason City; 28 grandchildren;

32 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren;

three sisters, Esther Walker, of Arizona, Ruby Harold, of California,

and Mary Weed, of Illinois; and two brothers, Leo Clausen, of

Osage, and Alfred Clausen, of Coggan.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two daughters,

one brother and one sister.

Lawrence Lawson Jr., 69, of Buffalo Center, formerly of Mason

City, died Thursday (Nov. 21, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice

Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Petersen

Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, with the Rev. Jeff Forbes, of

Concordia Lutheran Church of Albert Lea, Minn., officiating.

Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City.



Visitation will be held from noon until time of service on Saturday

at the funeral home.



Lawrence Lawson Jr. was born April 30, 1927, Des Moines.



Survivors include his wife, Martha Jones of Mason City; one

daughter, Shirley Hillman of Glenville, Minn.; five sons, Larry

Lawson, of Buffalo Center, Mark Lawson and Gary Lawson, both

of Albert Lea, Minn., Joe Lawson, of Northwood, and David Lawson

of Alden, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren;

stepmother, Stella Andreasen of Forest City; one half sister,

Mardella Anderson-Behrens, of Leland; and two half brothers,

Frank Lawson of Coulter, and Leonard Lawson of Thompson.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; one half

brother and one brother.

BANCROFT



Lawrence Kemna, 68, of Bancroft died Tuesday (Nov. 19, 1996)

at home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John

Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial

with military honors will be at St. John Cemetery.



Visitation was held on Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf

Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services today at the funeral

home.



Lawrence Kemna was born on Aug. 10, 1928, at West Bend.



Survivors include his wife, Marie Kemna of Bancroft; two sons,

Steve Kemna of Bloomington, Minn., and Tom Kemna of Algona; four

daughters, Diane Wolf of Remsen; Jan Thorn of Roswell, Ga.; Julie

Becker of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lisa Reichter of Goldfield;

five grandchildren;  three brothers, Leo Kemna of Lebanon, Ind.;

Harold Kemna of Fort Scott, Kan.; and John Kemna, Sioux Falls,

S.D.; and four sisters, Rosemary Dudding of Bancroft; Alvina

Delperdang of Bancroft; Irene Rosenstiel of Corwith, and Joanne

Kemna of Bancroft.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, two brothers

and one sister.

Anne Miles

MASON CITY



Anne Miles, 90, of 304 Third St. N.E., died Thursday (Nov.

21, 1996) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James

Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson

officiating.



Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Pleasant View Cemetery

at Thornton.



Visitation will be held one hour before services at St. James

Lutheran Church.



Memorials may be given to the Anne Miles Memorial Fund.



Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in

charge of arrangements.



Anne Miles was born Aug. 9, 1906, in Thornton, to Henry and

Bertha Schlutz.



She attended Thornton schools and lived in  Thornton most of

her life.



She was married to Richard L. Miles on Oct. 31, 1928, in Mason

City.



She lived in Louisiana for some 13 years, then moved back to

Thornton.



After her husband's death in 1990, she moved to Mason City and

lived at the Shalom Towers until entering the Good Shepherd Nursing

Home.



Her family meant a lot to her, and she loved her grandchildren,

and will be sadly missed by all.



She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.



She is survived by one son, Rolland Miles and his wife, Mary,

of Mason City; grandchildren, Tami Moore and her husband, Josh,

of Annapolis, Md., and Michael Miles of Omaha, Neb.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard,

in 1990; an infant granddaughter; and two brothers, George Schlutz

and Henry ``Hank'' Schlutz.

Prudence Wilde

OSAGE



Prudence Wilde, 80, of Osage, died Wednesday (Nov. 20, 1996)

at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.



Services for her immediate family will be held on Saturday,

with the Rev. Rose Marie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow

at the Osage Cemetery.



She was born near Hanlontown, in Worth County on Aug. 17, 1916,

to Henry and Louise Walk.



She graduated from Kensett High School in 1935.



She was united in marriage to LaVern Wilde of St. Ansgar, in

Northwood on March 27, 1940.



They farmed many years in the St. Ansgar and Osage area retiring

in 1975. They were living in Osage.



Mrs. Wilde was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Lutheran

Church of Rock Township near Osage. She was also a member of

the Hospital Auxiliary of Osage and the Christian Women's Club.



She enjoyed reading and gardening and loved being with her family

and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.



She is survived by two daughters, Jean Swanson of Cedar Falls,

and Ruth Fredericks, Osage; two grandsons; one granddaughter;

one great-grandson; one brother; one sister; and many nieces

and nephews.



Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, three

brothers and two sisters.

Casey Charles Thompson

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn.



Casey Charles Thompson, 3-month-old son of Heath and Connie

Thompson, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Wednesday (Nov.

20, 1996) in St. Louis Park.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at

the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., Mason

City, with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson officiating. Burial will

be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m.  Sunday, Nov. 24, at

He was baptized on Sept. 28, 1996, at the First United Methodist

Casey brought so much joy into this family and will be so dearly

missed.



Survivors include his parents, Heath and Connie Thompson, St.

Louis Park, Minn.; paternal grandfather, Charles G. Thompson,

Mason City; maternal grandparents, Don and Marsha (Paton) Kibsgaard,

Mason City; one great-grandfather, Walter Thompson and his wife,

Elinor, Hampton; two great-grandmothers, Mildred Paton, Hampton,

and Vi Stokes, Clear Lake; one aunt, Karalee Thompson, Mason

City; two uncles, Eric Thompson, Rantoul, Ill., and Randy Kibsgaard

and his wife, Darla, Clear Lake; three cousins, Ryan, Jenna and

Bailey Kibsgaard, all of Clear Lake; several great-aunts and

great-uncles;  and many other relatives.



Casey was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kay (Stokes)

Thompson; great-grandparents, John and Marie Kibsgaard; two great-

grandfathers, Arch Paton and Merlyn Stokes; and one great-grandmother,

Betty Ellingson

Betty Ellingson, 67, of Route 2, Glenville, died Wednesday

(Nov. 20, 1996) at St. John's Lutheran Home.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bethlehem Lutheran

Church, Myrtle, with the  Rev. Daniel Baker officiating. Interment

will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.



Visitation was held Friday at the Bayview Funeral Home and there

will be further visitation one hour before services at the church.



Betty Marie Ellingson was born on Oct. 24, 1929, at Albert Lea,

the daughter of Henry and Olga (Wahlers) Tews.



She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1947.



She worked for the Telephone Company as an operator until she

became ill with polio in 1949.



On Nov. 2, 1955, Betty was united in marriage to Duane Ellingson

at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle.



Betty was a member of the Friendly Handicaps Club, Bethlehem

Lutheran Church and Church Circles.



She enjoyed doing punch work, embroidery and painting. She had

lived all of her life in the Myrtle area.



Betty was a full-time Mom and Grandma who will be sadly missed

by all who knew her.



Survivors include her husband, Duane, of Glenville; daughters,

Cindy and her husband, Lee Rolfs, of Sussex, Wis., and Sandy

Nelson of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Tammy and Bradley Joecks,

Benjamin and his wife, Erin, Andy and Scott Rolfs, all of Wisconsin,

and Timothy Nelson, of Glenville; sisters, Alice and her husband,

Arnold Borchard, of Lannon, Wis., and Mary and her husband, Gene

Rosnow, of Bemidji; and many nieces and nephews.



Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Leona

They farmed together in Belmond, Thornton and Goodell areas

until 1952 and moved to an acreage south of Meservey. In 1960,

they moved into the town of Meservey.



She was a member of the First Reformed Church, Meservey.



Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Larry (Jan) Ersland, of Belmond;

Mrs. Richard (Sheryl) Meints, of Meservey; sons, Lyle Pals and

his wife, Donna, of Belmond, and Wayne Pals and his wife, Connie,

Opal Mildred Olson, the daughter of Gerhard and Anna (Fosen)

Olson, was born Sept. 21, 1912, on a farm south of Kanawha. She

was baptized in the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She attended the

rural schools of Hancock County and then graduated from Corwith

High School in 1929. Opal worked in a restaurant in Kanawha,

at Morell's Packing Plant in Ottumwa, and then for Younkers in

Mason City, Austin, Minn., Iowa City and Waterloo. She retired

in 1975, and in 1977, moved to Britt to be near family and friends.

In 1991, due to ill health, she moved to Agency, later to Bloomfield,

and in May of 1996 to the Kanawha Community Nursing Home. She

enjoyed her nieces, nephews, Norwegian cooking and playing cards.



She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Olson of

Britt, Glenice Olson of Waterloo, and Yvonne Olson of Ottumwa;

and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Aletha

Gault; four brothers, Lynn Olson, Clair Olson, Maurice Olson

and Jay Olson; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Olson; and a brother-in-law,

Weston Gault.

Mrs. Gabel, the former Josephine Ann Kramer, was born Nov. 26,

1905, in Ulster Township, Floyd County, the daughter of John

and Mary (Puhl) Kramer. She was educated at St. Mary School in

Roseville. On Feb. 22, 1933, at St. Mary's Church in Greene,

she was united in marriage to Wilbur John Gabel. The couple made

their home on a farm in rural Greene for many years, where Mrs.

Gabel assisted her husband in the operation of the farm. Mr.

Gabel died Sept. 27, 1995, in Mason City. Mrs. Gabel was a member

of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. She enjoyed a special

knack for gardening and cooking.



Living family members include one sister, Christina Heinz of

Charles City, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in

death by three brothers, Matt Kramer, John Kramer and Raymond

Kramer, and three sisters, Katie Staudt, Margaret Staudt and

Barbara Staudt.

Arthur J. Chizek, 62, passed away Friday (Nov. 22, 1996) at

Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's

Catholic Church with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating, and Joseph

Wellik as Lector. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery,

Duncan.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Ewing

Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at

the church on Tuesday. Special services to be held Monday are

3 p.m., Catholic Daughters of America Rosary, 7 p.m., Catholic

Arthur, the son of William and Lillian Kopacek Chizek, was born

on June 10, 1934, in Britt. He attended schools in Britt and

graduated from Britt High School.



On Jan. 16, 1956, he was united in marriage with Lorraine Young

in Garner. He worked for Woodford-Wheeler Lumber Yard for more

than 40 years. Since 1960, he had been the manager at Woodford-Wheeler.



Arthur enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed

fishing, boating and carpentry repair. He was a member of St.

Patrick's Catholic Church where he served as a trustee and as

an usher. He also belonged to the Holy Name Society, the Catholic

Workman and the Britt Chamber of Commerce.



Arthur is survived by his wife, Lorraine Chizek, of Britt; his

children, Kenneth and his wife, Cynthia, of Clear Lake, Carolyn

Chizek and her fiance, Steve Kilborn, of Clear Lake, Judy Brozik

and her husband, Jim, of Duncan, Gary and his wife, Sheryl, of

Britt, Mary Chizek of Mason City, Ray Chizek of Ankeny, and Lori

Chizek and her fiance, Brent Mullins, of Ankeny; his grandchildren,

Kaitlyn and Michael Chizek, Melissa, Stacy and Amy Brozik, and

Allan Chizek; his mother, Lillian Chizek of Britt; one brother,

William Chizek and his wife, Blanche, of Britt; two sisters,

Lorene Arndorfer and her husband, Francis, of Willmar, Minn.,

Joseph and Mary (Gallati) Malfero. She came to the United States

at the age of three. Nancy Seny was united in marriage to Tony

Seny on March 15, 1920, in Mason City. She resided in Mason City

until 1974.



She was a past member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and was

an active member of her women's church circle.



Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Pusateri of Anaheim,

Calif., and Mary Seny of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one son, Patrick

A. Seny of Daytona Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-

grandchildren; and two sisters.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Seny, on Feb.

3, 1958.

Memorial services for 66 year old Maxine Joan (Hoeft) Johnson

Mrs. Johnson died Friday afternoon (Nov. 22, 1996) at her home

in Albert Lea following a courageous battle with cancer.



Maxine was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Garner, the daughter of William

A. and Minnie R. (Jante) Hoeft. She was baptized and confirmed

at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. Maxine graduated from

Garner High School in 1948. She was employed by the Telephone

Company in Mason City, Tacoma, Wash., Garner and Albert Lea.

In 1960 she graduated from cosmetology school in Austin, Minn.,

and was a beautician at the Skinner Department Store, and self-employed

in her home in Albert Lea for 32 years. She retired in 1993.



Maxine was united in marriage to Vincent O. Johnson on Feb.

2, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She was an

active member of the American Legion, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the

Naeve Hospital Auxiliary.



Maxine is survived by her husband, Vincent, of Albert Lea, Minn.;

children, Marjorie J. and her husband, Byron Nelson, of Little

Falls, Minn., William E. and his wife, Nancy Beers, of Albert

Lea, Minn., Edward J. and his wife, Margie Beers, of Blaine,

Minn., Chris A. and his wife, Janet Johnson, of Robbinsdale,

Minn.; grandchildren, Michael, Rainya and her husband, Daniel

Strack, Emily, Benjamin, Maxwell, Janika, Kelli, Ryan, Adam and

Griffin ``Grif'' C. Venz was born April 8, 1926 in Charles City,

the son of Harry and Alice (Fischer) Venz.  Grif graduated from

Charles City High School in 1944.  He then served during World

War II in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946.  After the

service he attended and graduated from Hamilton Business College

in June of 1948.  He married Jeanette Myers on April 11, 1948

in Mason City.  Grif worked for Stoyles Press as a general office

manager and sales representative for 11 years, 1948 to 1959.

He then purchased Central Show Printing, Inc. in May 1959 and

operated that until he retired on July 1, 1994.  Grif was active

in many community groups and activities in Mason City throughout

the years.  He received the Mason City Jaycees Distinguished

Service Award in 1950 and the Jaycees Outstanding Young Man of

the year in 1953.  In 1968 he received the Seratoma Club Service

and Mankind Award. Grif was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran

Church where he served as president of the congregation and served

on various Boards of the church.  Grif was a member of Trinity

Lutheran Church, serving on the Board of Trustees with Rev. LaVern

Hanson and as an usher.  He also served as president of the Mason

City Jaycees and Mason City Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors,

Mason City Country Club form 19812 to 1982, and the Board of

Directors of Good Shepherd Nursing Home.  He was an avid golfer,

enjoyed traveling and was devoted to his church.



Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Venz of Mason City; two

sons, Michael Venz and wife Judy of Rochester, Minn., and Larry

Venz of Mason City; three grandchildren, Katherine Venz, Robert

Venz, and David Venz all of Rochester, Minn.; one brother, Russell

Venz and wife Rita of St. Louis Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Alice ``Suzy''

LaBounty; and one brother, Earl Venz.

Mission Nursing Home.

Elizabeth ``Betty'' Granzow, 100, died Sunday (Nov. 24, 1996)

at Good Samaritan Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel

of Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Secrease of First

Congregational Church UCC officiating.  Burial will be in Riverview

Cemetery.



Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home.

Public Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday

at the funeral home.



Elizabeth was born July 6, 1896 at Colesburg.



Survivors include one son, the Rev. Boyd Granzow of Melbourne,

Australia; one sister, Arlene Kenyon of Algona; seven grandchildren;

and eight great-grandchildren.

Helen Sponduris

MASON CITY 



Helen Sponduris, 87, of 222 S. Pierce, died Saturday (Nov. 23,

1996) at Willow Creek Health Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Greek Orthodox

Church of Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W. with the Rev.

Joseph Mirowski officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Greek

Orthodox Church. Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m. tonight

at the Greek Orthodox Church.



Memorials may be given to Helen Sponduris Memorial Fund.



Helen Sponduris was born May 10, 1909 in Syra, Greece, the daughter

of James and Kalleope (Karamolengos) Kantaris.  Helen moved with

her family to Mason City at the age of 3.  She attended Mason

City schools and worked at Mason City Laundry part-time.  She

lived in Mason City most of her life.  She was married to Alex

Garufis, Chris Makris, and Steve Sponduris, all which preceded

her in death.



Survivors include her daughter, Mary Linde and husband Robert

of Albert Lea, Minn.; a son, Nick Garufis and wife Janet of Los

Angeles, Calif,; five grandchildren, Linda Bull of Mason City,

Mark Bull and wife Karen of Mason City, Helen Wagner and husband

Gary of Mason City, Alex Garufis and wife Carrie of Los Angeles,

Calif., and Mark Garufis of Los Angeles, Calif.; four great grandchildren,

Brad and Matthew Bull, Paul Wagner, and Lauren Garufis; five

sisters, Stella Markos, Irene Gazes, and Christina Klein all

of Mason City, Betty Armoskus of Alameda, Calif., Mary Triantafilou

of Detroit, Mich.; and one brother, Gus Kantaris of Mason City.



She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; one

daughter, Katherine Platts; an infant grandson; three sisters;

and two brothers.

FLOYD 



William ``Bill'' Hall, 57, 505 Chittendon St., died Saturday

(Nov. 23, 1996) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des

Moines.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity

United Methodist Church in Charles City with the Rev. Blair Rohde-Frank,

pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Floyd, officiating.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens with military honors

conducted at the graveside by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.



Friends may call Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, from noon

to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the church one hour prior

to the service.



Memorials may be directed to the family.



William Ernest Hall was born Nov. 30, 1938, at Waterloo.



Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Floyd; two sons, Rick

Hall of Waverly and Rod Hall of Nora Springs; a daughter, Renee

Burdett of Floyd; seven grandchildren; his mother, Irene Heidt

of Cedar Falls; six brothers, Howard Hall of Hawkeye, Dick Heidt

and Lee Heidt of Cedar Rapids, Roland Heidt of Dike, Chuck Heidt

of Waterloo, and Daryl Heidt of Allison; 10 sisters, Rosalie

Evalyn Violet Hebel

MASON CITY 



Mrs. Evalyn Violet Hebel, 90, died Saturday (Nov. 23, 1996)

at Heritage Health Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Family

Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave. with the Rev. John R. Kremer

and Msgr. Joseph J. Slepica officiating.  Interment will be in

Elmwood Cemetery.



Visitation begins after 3 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. Scriptural Wake will be 7:30 p.m.

tonight at the funeral home.



Evalyn was born March 15, 1906 in Albert Lea, Minn. the daughter

of Ove and Gusty (Laite) Sanderson.  She graduated from Mason

City High School. She married Henry John Hebel on July 18, 1923

in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly.



Evalyn and her husband owned and operated the yellow cab business

in Mason City until 1946.  They lived their entire married lives

in Mason City.  They enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa,

Ariz. where she enjoyed playing shuffle board, needle pointing

and playing bridge.  She was an avid antique shopper.



Evalyn was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church; St. Theresa's

Circle; former member of Catholic Daughters of America; and Joyce

Kilmer Study Club in Mason City.



Evalyn is survived by four daughters, Dorothea Pritchard of

Mason City, JoAnn Harrer and her husband Jerry of Mason City,

Barbara Rodgers and her husband Marlin of Eden Prairie, Minn.,

and Henrietta McGregor and her husband William of Roswell, Ga.

She was the grandmother of 23 and great-grandmother of 47.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1973, one

sister, and two brothers.
