Esther Jane Beal

MASON CITY 



Esther Jane Beal, 74, of 632 S. Polk Pl., died Tuesday (Oct.

29, 1996) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First

United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Merlin

Ackerson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hogan Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and will be held one hour

prior to services at the church today.



Esther Jane Beal was born March 7, 1922, in Clear Lake, the

daughter of Charles Leroy and Goldie (Howard) Mitchell. She married

Raymond Voss in 1943. He was killed in action in World War II.

She then married John D. Beal on April 27, 1946, at the Little

Brown Church in Nashua.



Esther grew up in Clear Lake and attended Clear Lake Schools.

She worked 11 years at the Mason City Country Club. She then

worked nine years at Wal-Mart in the lawn and garden department,

which carried over to her love of flowers. She enjoyed sitting

on her patio and sharing the view with family and friends.



She was a member of the Women of the Moose for many years. She

was a member of First United Methodist Church.



Survivors include two daughters, Jerrilea Voss and Sharon Madsen,

both of Mason City; two grandchildren, Aaron Madsen, and Aimee

Bjerke and her husband, Jason, all of Mason City; two great-

grandchildren, Jordan and Andrew Bjerke, both of Mason City;

two sisters, Ruth Farrow of Perham, Minn., and Kathryn Ekborg

of North Bend, Ore.; several nieces and nephews; and many dear

friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one

son, Larry Beal; and two brothers, Howard and Kenneth Mitchell.

Osborn A. `Steve' Pfeil

MASON CITY



Osborn A. ``Steve'' Pfeil, 84, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Ave.,

died Tuesday (Oct. 29, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient

Unit.



Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St.

John's Episcopal Church, 120 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Robert

Towner officiating.



Private committal services will be held Saturday morning in

Owatonna, Minn.



There will be no visitation. The body will be cremated.



Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason

City, is in charge of arrangements.



Memorials may be given to St. John's Episcopal Church or Hospice

of North Iowa in his memory.



Steve Pfeil was born April 18, 1912, in Worthington, Minn.,

the son of Walter and Laura (Ayars) Pfeil. He graduated from

Worthington High School.



During and after high school, Steve worked for J.C. Penney.

Steve moved to California, where he worked for Walkers Department

Store.



He moved to Owatonna, Minn., in 1944 and opened a clothing store

which he operated for 12 years. His last employment was with

Oswald Publishing Company of New Ulm, Minn.



Steve married Marie S. Frelund on Aug. 5, 1990, in Mason City.



He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge,

Shrine, Elks, UCT, Service Corp. of Retired Executives (S.C.O.R.E.)

and volunteered at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.



Survivors include his wife, Marie Frelund Pfeil of Mason City;

son, Terry K. Pfeil and his wife, Gayle, of Chandler, Ariz.;

daughter, Sharon West and her husband, Harvey, of Owatonna, Minn.;

stepsons, Charles A. Frelund and his wife, Sandra, of Albuquerque,

N.M., and Warren F. Frelund and his wife, Susan, of Mason City;

two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren;

one stepgreat-grandchild; two brothers, Dale Pfeil and his wife,

Marjorie, of Billings, Mont., and James Pfeil and his wife, Ruth,

of Armstrong, Iowa; and one sister, Elwilda Kadous and her husband,

Delbert, of Mesa, Ariz.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and

two sisters, Lois and Margaret.

Edward C. Sheehy

MASON CITY 



Edward C. Sheehy, 74, of 16120 245th St., Mason City, died Wednesday

(Oct. 30, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. John R.

Kremer of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Following

the service, the body will be cremated with a committal service

to be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home and until time of services on Saturday.



Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.



Edward C. Sheehy was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Chickasaw County,

the son of Gregory L. and Hazel A. (Strike) Sheehy. Ed attended

school in Hampton.



He served in the United States Army during World War II.



Ed married Beverly J. Roberts April 22, 1950, in Mason City.



Ed worked for Jacob E. Decker and Sons for 24 years and Cerro

Gordo County for nine years, retiring in 1983.



He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Elks Lodge and

Armour retirees.



He was an avid fisherman.



Survivors include his wife, Beverly J. Sheehy of Mason City;

one son, Lee E. Sheehy and his wife, Linda, of Minneapolis, Minn.;

sister, Rose Marie Baltes, of New Hampton, sister, Clara Mae

Kruse and her husband, Ed, of Monona; brother, Gregory L. Sheehy,

of Pine City, Minn.; brother, Clifford J. Sheehy, of New  Hampton;

brother, Ralph V. Sheehy, of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, Shirley

Todd and her husband, Jim, of Ozark, Ark.; and many nieces and

nephews including a special niece, Jane Papouchis.



He was preceded in death by parents, four brothers and one sister.

Dorothy L. (Zook) Price

MASON CITY



Dorothy L. (Zook) Price, 88, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday

(Oct. 30, 1996) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.



Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Clear

Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, with the Rev. John ``Jack'' Gannett

of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.



There will be no visitation. The body will be cremated.



Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason

City, is in charge of arrangements.



Dorothy C. Zook Price was born June 11, 1908, in Northwood,

the daughter of Carl and Anna (Peterson) Brager.



Dorothy graduated from Clear Lake High School, attended Hamilton

Business College and graduated from Minneapolis School of Business.



Dorothy married Clarence Zook and they farmed south of Clear

Lake for many years.



She spent most of her life in the Clear Lake area, moving to

Mason City in 1970. Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran

Church, Elizabeth Circle, Queen Rebekah and Moose Lodges.



Survivors include two brothers, Max Brager of Omaha, Neb., and

Dr. Richard Brager and his wife, Helen, of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.;

and nine nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence

Zook; one brother, Clare Brager; and one sister, Eunice English.

Ruth A. Woodin

BELMOND 



Ruth A. Woodin, 97, died Thursday (Oct. 31, 1996) at the Belmond

Health Care Center.



Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4,

at the United Church of Christ Congregational Church, with the

Rev. Bill Mulford officiating. She has willed her body to the

University of Iowa Medical School for research. Interment will

be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.



There will be no visitation. Tenold Funeral Home is in charge

of arrangements.



The family would like memorials directed to the Ruth Woodin

Memorial Fund.



Ruth A. Woodin was born Nov. 4, 1898, in Norway Township, Wright

County.



Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Bloomfield of Monument,

Colo.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother,

Kenneth Sheplee of Cokato, Minn.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters

and one brother.

Mirriam J. Triggs, 76, died Thursday (Oct. 31, 1996) at the

Clarion Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Missionary

Alliance Church, Blairsburg, with the Rev. James Hahn and the

Rev. Ian Hoover officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold

Funeral Home, and two hours prior to services at the church.



Mirriam J. Triggs was born Feb. 20, 1920.



Survivors include two sons, Harley Triggs of Ankeny, and Dennis

Triggs of Belmond; three daughters, Nancy Miller of Nevada, Marilyn

Howington of Lakewood, Colo., and Marlene Gresh of Castle Rock,

Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother,

Harry Matthiesen of Curlew; and three sisters, Fern Stoltz of

Austin, Minn., Catherine Seagren of Curlew, and Grace Larson

of Ankeny.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and

sister.

Leona N. Ziegler, 84, died Thursday (Oct. 31, 1996) at the Riverside

Chautauqua Guest Home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Saint

John Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Karen Rask Behling

officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.



Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral

Home, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.



Leona Nelleen Brown Ziegler was born June 8, 1912, in Nora Springs.



Survivors include one brother, Paul Brown of Charles City.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters

and one brother.

Michael Joseph Pickar, 45, of Burr Oak Manor, Austin, Minn.,

died Thursday (Oct. 31, 1996) at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester,

Minn., of a lingering illness.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St.

Edwards Catholic Church, Austin, Minn., with Father Jack Krough

officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Elma.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Mayer

Funeral Home, 600 Second St. N.W., Austin, Minn. with a wake

service at 6 p.m. and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.



Michael Joseph Pickar was born June 22, 1951, in Osage, Iowa,

to Elmer and Anna M. (Spradling) Pickar.



He was a graduate of Crestwood High School in Cresco, Iowa.



He formerly worked at Wilson Foods, Albert Lea, Minn.



Michael enjoyed being with his children and family.



Survivors include one son, Ryan Pickar; and one daughter, Carolyn

Pickar, both of Austin, Minn.; and their mother, Janet, of Austin,

Minn.; his mother, Anna M. Pickar; a special friend, Judy Adams,

of Dexter, Minn.; one sister, Catherine Knowles and her husband,

Marshall, of Manly, Iowa; four brothers, John Pickar and his

wife, Nancy, of Cresco, Randy Pickar and his wife, Jeannie, of

Osage, Iowa; Kenneth Pickar and his wife, Dianne, of Britt, Iowa;

and Alan Pickar, and his wife, Tammy, of Belle Plaine, Minn.



He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; and his grandparents.

Leota Decker was born Sept. 28, 1943, in Des Moines.



Survivors include her husband, Clifford, of Lake Mills; one

Buffalo Center; four grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Duvall,

of Chino Hills, Calif.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

Blue Grass, died Thursday (Oct. 31, 1996) at his home in Clear

Lake.



A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van

Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kermit

Roisen of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in

Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral

chapel and until time of services on Monday.



Larry Duane Thiemann was born June 5, 1939, in Mason City, son

of Edwin and Lillian (Brown) Thiemann.



He was married to Alice Aplin on Sept. 21, 1963, at the Lutheran

Church in Lowden.



Larry graduated from Ventura High School in 1957. He worked

two years for Equitable of Iowa Insurance, then in the offices

of J.I. Case in Burlington,  and Rock Island, Ill., until retiring

in 1988.



Larry loved music and sang in the Burlington Barbershop Chorus.

He enjoyed hunting and golfing and playing softball. He was an

active member of the Blue Grass Community Club.



Survivors include one son, Mark Thiemann and his wife, Barbara,

of Davenport; one daughter, Sara Thiemann of Boone; one grandson,

Dylan Thiemann of Davenport; his mother, Lillian Thiemann of

Clear Lake; his sister, Joyce TenHaken of Clear Lake; one nephew,

Nathan TenHaken of Clear Lake; one niece, Heather Chapman and

her husband, Michael, of Tempe, Ariz.; and his aunt, Mildred

Hoveland of Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Thiemann; his

grandparents, Herman and Minnie Thiemann, and Andrew and Anna

Brown; and many aunts and uncles.

Helen Holt, 88, of Golden Valley, passed away Wednesday (Oct.

30, 1996) at her home.

Robert; and eight great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Holt, and

Alice Mathilda Hummel

Alice Mathilda Hummel, 89, of Klemme, died Wednesday (Oct. 30,

1996) at her home in Klemme.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel

Reformed United Church of Christ, with Pastor Georgia White-Kisslring

officiating. Interment will be in Ell Township Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold

Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.



Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may direct the

memorial to the Alice Hummel Memorial Fund.



Alice Mathilda Hummel was born on Sunday, Feb. 24, 1907, near

Kanawha, to John and Taalena (Anderson) Johnson.



She was raised and educated in the Kanawha area. At an early

age, she was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith

in the Kanawha Lutheran Church by the Rev. P.B. Trelsted.



On Dec. 19, 1928, she was united in marriage to Hugh Hummel

of Klemme. They farmed west of Klemme until they moved to Klemme

in 1959.



Alice did babysitting for several children, enjoyed gardening

and her flowers. She enjoyed company and baking for her family

and friends.



Alice is survived by her sons, Leland and his wife, Beulah,

of Klemme; Ronald and his wife, Beverly, of Ankeny, and Gary

and his wife, Ann, of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter, Lois Finlayson

and her husband, Jon, of Mason City; a special niece, Marie Perkins

of Mason City; grandchildren, Diane Stadtlander and her husband,

Curtis; Joleen Chiodo and her husband, Ben; Shelley Vining and

her husband, Dan; Renae Verduyn and her husband, Brian; Jill

MacEachern and her husband, Brian; Kristin Shafer and her fiancee,

Michael Brass; and Kaitlyn Hummel; great-grandchildren, Holly

and Andy Stadtlander, Matthew Seiferst and Kaci and Nicole Shafer;

sisters, Esther Hess of Klemme, and Ruth Nuehring of Mason City;

several nieces and nephews; and many friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh;

a sister, Edith Caroline Johnson; and four brothers, Bert Johnson,

John Johnson, Alfred Johnson and Carl Johnson.

Eleanora C. Davey, 96, of Manly, died Friday (Nov. 1, 1996)

at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.



A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred

Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas McAndrew officiating.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bride

Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring St., with a Scriptural rosary

service at 7:30 p.m.



The family of Eleanora C. Davey has requested that memorial

contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in

her memory.



Eleanora C. Davey was born on April 22, 1900, in Manly.



Survivors include two sons, Ralph Davey of Manly, and William

Davey of Gadsden, Ala.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;

one great-great-grandson; two stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-

granddaughter; and one sister, Jenny Knudson of Creswell, Ore.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son,

two brothers and one sister.

Floyd H. Carlson

KANAWHA



Floyd H. Carlson, 64, of Lone Rock, died Thursday (Oct. 31,

1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United

Methodist Church, Kanawha, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating.

Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha.



Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ewing-Dugger Funeral

Home, Kanawha, and one hour prior to services at the church.



Floyd H. Carlson was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Hancock County.



Survivors include his wife, Ruby Carlson, of Lone Rock; three

daughters, Rhonda Nemmers of Bancroft; Donna Kayser of Henderson,

Minn., and Terri Russell of Estherville; one son, Mike Carlson

of Cleveland, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild;

three sisters, Marie Minor of Clarion; Margaret Anderson of Kanawha,

and Mildred Anderson of North Platte, Neb.; and three brothers,

Thomas Carlson and Harold Carlson, both of Kanawha, and Donald

Carlson of Watertown, Wis.



He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Albert J. Pfaltzgraff

KAILUA, Hawaii



Albert J. Pfaltzgraff, 74, of 50 Kaiholu Place, Kailua,  a

former Manly, Iowa, resident, passed away on Sept. 5, 1996, in

Kailua.



He graduated from Manly High School in 1940 and the University

of Iowa.



He was district counsel chief attorney for the Veterans Administration

for the Pacific Region.



During World War II, he served in the Marines and Merchant Marines.



He is survived by his wife, Lucille; sons, Timothy Pfaltzgraff

and Anthony Pfaltzgraff; daughter, Debra Creps; 13 grandchildren;

a sister, Carol and her husband, Francis Chlupach, of Mason City,

Iowa; and one nephew, Robert Chlupach and his wife, Robin, of

Willow, Alaska.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; one daughter; and

his parents.

Matthew J. Murphy, 16, of 920 11th St. N.E., died Thursday (Oct.

31, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul

Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., with the Rev. James B. Norem

officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral

Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and also one hour prior to services

at the church.



Memorials may be made in memory of Matthew J. Murphy.



Matthew J. Murphy was born Aug. 15, 1980, in Mason City, the

son of James and Diane (Wright) Murphy. Matt was currently a

sophomore at Mason City High School where he participated in

wrestling, football and baseball. Matt worked at McDonalds West

and was active in DeMolay, St. Paul Lutheran Church, the youth

group at St. Paul's, and enjoyed the ham radio.



Survivors include his parents, James and Diane Murphy of Mason

City; one sister, Megan Murphy at home; maternal grandparents,

Rod and Phyllis Wright of Mason City; paternal grandmother, Patricia

Bjerke and her husband, William, of Mason City; paternal great-

grandmother, Lorraine Murphy of Cedar Falls; maternal great-grand-

mother, Ruth Menke of Mason City; uncles, Steven Murphy and his wife,

Becky, of Valparaiso, Ind., Mark Wright and his wife, Jan, of Rock

Rapids, and Jay Wright and his wife, Renee, of Downers Grove, Ill.;

and cousins, Jason and Chad Murphy, and Kyle and Michael Wright.



He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert

Murphy.

Larry Duane Thiemann, 57, of 1605 First Ave. N., formerly of

Blue Grass, died Thursday (Oct. 31, 1996) at his home in Clear

Lake.



A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van

Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the

Rev. Kermit Roisen of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial

will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral

chapel and until time of services on Monday.



Larry Duane Thiemann was born June 5, 1939, in Mason City, son

of Edwin and Lillian (Brown) Thiemann.



He was married to Alice Aplin on Sept. 21, 1963, at the Lutheran

Church in Lowden.



Larry graduated from Ventura High School in 1957. He worked

two years for Equitable of Iowa Insurance, then in the offices

of J.I. Case in Burlington, Iowa, and Rock Island, Ill., until

retiring in 1988.



Larry loved music and sang in the Burlington Barbershop Chorus.

He enjoyed hunting and golfing and playing softball. He was an

active member of the Blue Grass Community Club.



Survivors include one son, Mark Thiemann and his wife, Barbara,

of Davenport; one daughter, Sara Thiemann, of Boone; one grandson,

Dylan Thiemann of Davenport; his mother, Lillian Thiemann of

Clear Lake; his sister, Joyce TenHaken, of Clear Lake; one nephew,

Nathan TenHaken of Clear Lake; one niece, Heather Chapman and

her husband, Michael, of Tempe, Ariz.; and two aunts, Mildred

Hoveland, of Mason City, and Beverly Brown of Aurora, Colo.



He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Thiemann; his

grandparents, Herman and Minnie Thiemann, and Andrew and Anna

Brown; and many aunts and uncles.

Marilyn D. Bertz was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Fond Du Lac, Wis.,

the daughter of Alfred A. and Rosella M. (Schmitz) Herbert.



Marilyn was raised in Fond Du Lac, Wis. She and her family lived

in Clear Lake from 1971 until 1976. They then briefly lived in

Birmingham, Mich., and then moved to New Ulm, Minn. in 1977 for

11 years, until returning to Clear Lake.



She was an avid collector of antiques and collectibles and was

involved in the antique business both in New Ulm, Minn., and

Clear Lake. Marilyn was one of the original staff members at

Opportunity Village where she also volunteered much of her time

throughout the years. She will be greatly missed by her family

and close friends and will be remembered by her generous spirit.



She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.



Survivors include one son, Jeffrey S. Bertz and his fiancee,

Patti Lewis, of Decatur, Ill.; two daughters, Kathleen A. Fothergill

and her husband, Scott, of Bondurant, and Carol J. Meyer and

her husband, Steve, of Clear Lake; a daughter-in-law, Vicky Bertz,

of Rochester, Minn.; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Sarah Bertz,

both of Rochester, Minn., Christine and Jacob Fothergill, both

of Bondurant, and Kathryn and Anne Meyer, both of Clear Lake;

three brothers, Dave Herbert of Scottsdale, Ariz., John Herbert

of Dahlonega, Ga., and Steve Herbert of Chicago, Ill.; and many

nieces and nephews.

officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery.

Gladys Lucille (Heltne) Severson was born on a farm in Silver

Lake Township, Worth County, near Lake Mills, on Oct. 9, 1914,

the daughter of Gilbert and Lena (Evenson) Heltne.  Gladys was

the third child in a family of one brother and two sisters. She

was baptized and confirmed at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church

in rural Northwood. She received her education at the Dahl School

#4, and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1932. She taught

rural schools until she married Maurice Severson on June 28,

1936, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church. Gladys was active in

her earlier years as a Sunday school teacher, First Lutheran

Church Women, and church circle, holding various offices in each.

She also was a 4-H leader for several years. Later on, she joined

the Kensett Garden Club, New Century Club, Sons of Norway at

Albert Lea, Minn., and other senior citizens groups. She also

for a time delivered for Meals on Wheels. She spent most of her

life as an active farm wife and homemaker. She took pride in

her flower gardens, sewing ability and crocheting afghans.



Survivors include her husband, Maurice Severson, of Northwood;

daughter, Marilyn and son-in-law, Tony Sanchez, of Walnut Creek,

Calif.; daughter, Ruth and son-in-law, LeRoy Simonson, of Rolfe;

a son, Gene and daughter-in-law, Janet, of Northwood; 10 grandchildren;

a brother, Palmer Heltne and his wife, Grace, of Lake Mills;

two sisters, Alva Sorenson of Lake Mills, and Valborg Campbell

and her husband, Lee, of St. Cloud, Minn.; four nephews; seven

nieces; and other relatives and friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Arlo.

Sheridan W. ``Jerry'' Chambers was born the second oldest of

11 children, the son of Montcalm A. and Faye M. (Smith) Chambers

in Imperial, Neb.  Sheridan was raised on a farm one mile southwest

of Champion, Neb. He attended elementary school in Champion and

he graduated in 1960 from Chase County High School in Imperial,

Neb. Following high school, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy and

served five years as a helicopter mechanic, and also served as

a member of the helicopter rescue team. Jerry worked 20 years

with United Airlines at the San Francisco International Airport

as an airline mechanic. He also worked for five years for Sun

Country Airlines in Minneapolis, Minn., as an aircraft mechanic

and supervisor.



He married Barbara Wolkenhauer on Nov. 13, 1971, in Reno, Nev.



Survivors include his wife, Barbara Chambers, of Burnsville,

Minn.; one son, Dale Berninghausen and his wife, Melody, of San

Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Cheryl Bushman and her husband, Mark,

of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren, Melissa, Kimberly, Christopher

and Shauna; his father, Monte Chambers of Champion, Neb.; six

sisters, Winona Kaye, Sandra Brunkhurst, Candi Schilke, Jane

Mullanix, Monta Rae Graves and Kathi Samuelson; and three brothers,

Douglas Chambers, Timothy Chambers and Mitchell Chambers.

DeVere L. ``Bud'' Savage was born Oct. 14, 1918, in Hampton

to Charles and Johanna Elise Mutzel Savage.  He married Marjorie

Hejlik on June 29, 1957, in Elk Point, S.D.  A resident of Davis

County since 1969, he had served in the U.S. Navy during World

War II.  He had worked for Starr Engineering in Cedar Rapids

in truck sales for several years, and was  farming in rural Davis

County at the time of his death.  He was a member of Reed Whisler

Post No. 78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.



He is survived by his wife; a son, Les Savage of Bloomfield;

three daughters, Joanne Wilkinson of Naranja, Fla., Jeannet Duncan

of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Vindy Johnson of Bloomfield;

several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters,

Pansy Jones of Fertile and Donna Axelsen of Clear Lake.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Douglas

Savage.

Earl Rambo was born Jan. 3, 1909, Vincentown, N.J., son of Theodore

and Bertha (Chamberlain) Rambo.



He married Vera Beebe on Nov. 3, 1945, at Mount Holly, N.J.



Earl was a lifetime resident of Burlington County, N.J,. until

age 80, when he moved to Ventura, to live with his daughter and

son-in-law.



After many years of farming, he served in the Air Signal Corps

for 31 months in China, India and Burma. He retired from Roebling

Steel, Roebling, N.J.



Earl enjoyed his family, working on his cars and mowing lawns.



Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Kathleen

Wireman and her husband, Dan, of Ventura; Thelma Lehman, Trenton,

N.J., and Brenda Rambo, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one son, Andrew

Rambo, of Cranbury, N.J.; five grandchildren, Matthew Wireman

of Ventura; Amy Wireman of Manhattan, N.Y.; Mark Wireman of Ventura;

Jennifer Marquardt of Trenton, N.J.; and Jason Marquardt of San

Clemente, Calif.; two brothers, Walter Rambo and Granville Rambo,

Mrs. Thomas (Frances) Monson, 78, of Forest City, died Sunday

(Nov. 3, 1996)  at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason

City.

Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial

will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Frances Delphine Monson was born in Mount Valley Township, Winnebago

County, on Jan. 25, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Hellickson)

Helvick.



She graduated from Forest City High School in 1935 and attended

Waldorf College. She taught in rural schools for six years.



On Nov. 30, 1941, she married Thomas G. Monson at the Lutheran

Parsonage in Yuma, Ariz. During world War II, she worked for

two and one-half years in an aircraft plant in San Diego, Calif.



After the war ended, the couple returned to the Forest City

area. They lived on a farm northwest of Forest City from 1946

until 1992, when they moved to their present home in Forest City.



Frances was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church,

participating in Ladies Circle and teaching Sunday school.



She was an avid collector of crystal figurines and enjoyed her

friends in Birthday Club. Frances liked to work in  her garden

and Saturday evenings out dining and dancing with her husband

were very special to her.



She is survived by her husband, Thomas G. Monson of Forest City;

three children and their spouses, Sandra and Larry Pettit, Owego,

N.Y.; Thomas C. and Eileen Monson of Delray Beach, Fla.; and

Shirley Johnson of Aurora, Colo., and Kathryn Lansing of Westland,

Mich.



Frances was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Franklin,

who died in infancy; and two brothers, Donovan and Garmon Helvick.

Robert B. Davis

CLEAR LAKE 



Robert B. Davis, 90, of 401 N. Fifth St., died Sunday (Nov.

3, 1996) at the IOOF Home, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the

First Congregational Church, 915 Second Place N., with the Rev.

Thomas W. Healey officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke

Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with an IOOF service at 7

p.m. In keeping with the family's wishes, the casket will be

closed.



Robert B. Davis was born Aug. 30, 1906, at Fayette, a son of

George A. and Clarice (Gifford) Davis.



He married Doris Ilene Callanan on May 11, 1925, at Olivia,

Minn.



He attended school at Fayette. His family moved to Clear Lake

in 1918 and he finished his education in the Clear Lake schools.



He worked for the American Crystal Sugar Company, when it operated

the sugar beet plant in Mason City. He worked at the former People's

Gas and Electric Company, Clear Lake, for 20 years, leaving to

spend the winters in Texas. He later did electrical work at Port

Lavaca, Texas; Joppa, Ill.; Marion, Ind.; and Davenport, before

returning to Clear Lake. Upon his return to Clear Lake, he worked

at Dewey Electric Company, until retiring.



He served on the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department from 1930

until 1950.



He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake;

IOOF Lodge #187, Clear Lake; and International Brotherhood of

Electrical Workers, Waterloo.



Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne L. (Davis) Jensen of

Mason City; two grandchildren, Joel Bruce Jensen, Santa Barbara,

Calif., and Jean Ann ``Pixie'' Jensen, Linn Grove; one brother,

Charles D. Davis, Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his father, George A. Davis, in

1939; his mother, Clarice Gifford Davis, in 1959; his wife, Doris

Callanan Davis, in 1974; a brother, Clair G. Davis, in 1979;

and one sister, Lenore Davis George, in 1986.

Marguerite M. Fleming

MASON CITY



Marguerite M. Fleming, 84, of 627 Rocky Creek Drive, Rochester,

Minn., formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (Nov. 3, 1996) at

the Woodside Convalescent Center, Rochester, Minn.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Major

Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Ronald

Graff of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Interment

will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, and until time of services on Wednesday.



Memorials may be given to the Marguerite M. Fleming Memorial

Fund.



Marguerite M. Fleming was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Wright County,

the daughter of Colbert L. and Rose (Creagan) Butterfield.



Marguerite attended kindergarten through 11th grade in Wright

County.



She married Glenn M. Fleming on Nov. 26, 1930, at Belmond. The

Flemings moved to New Hampton in 1930 and lived there until 1950.



In 1950, they moved to Mason City where Marguerite worked for

Clean Towel Service for five years and cooked in the Jefferson

Bus Depot for eight years.



In 1994, Marguerite moved to Rochester, Minn.



She was a former member of the Moose Lodge, a member of the

50's Golden Club and  Jehovah's Witnesses.



She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed story telling.



Survivors include daughters, Darlene Young and her husband,

Howard, of Mason City; Ila May Bolson and her husband, Donald,

of Rochester, Minn.; Glenice Knutson and her husband, Jarl, of

Ashby, Minn.; and Audrey Smith and her husband, Frank, of Melvern,

Ark.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two

sisters, one grandchild and her husband, Glenn M. Fleming in

1994.
