Pam Wesenberg Christiansen
GARNER
Pam Wesenberg Christiansen, 51, died Sunday (May 19, 1996) at
the Ann Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis Md.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the U.S.
Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 25,
1996, at the Amsterdam Township Cemetery, east of Goodell. The
Rev. Jerry Robertson will officiate. Classmates will be casket
bearers.
There will be no visitation. Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner
is in charge of arrangements.
Pamela Rose Christiansen, the daughter of Wayne Emerson and
Viola Beatrice (Thorson) Wesenberg was born March 13, 1945 at
Mason City.
She attended school at Garner, graduating from Garner-Hayfield
High School in 1963.
Pam continued her education at Drake University in Des Moines,
where she received her B.A. Degree in 1967.
She was married to Dennis Christiansen in Des Moines, Iowa in
1967.
Pam and her family lived in Arnold, Md. for 22 years.
She was the office administrator for the Maryland Department
of Transportation in Annapolis.
She enjoyed her family, gardening, needlepoint and making dolls.
While living in Garner, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran
Church.
In Maryland, she belonged to the Annapolis Chorale and the U.S.
Naval Academy Choir.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Christiansen; two sons,
Clayton Page Christiansen of Arnold, Md., and Cortland Randall
Christiansen of Hollywood, Calif.; two sisters, Patricia Weisbrat
and her husband, Howard, of Portsmouth, N.H., and Paula Rowland
of Medina, N.Y.; three nieces, Lesley Ann Weisbrat, Jessica Lynn
Rowland, and Julie Ann Rowland; and an aunt, Eunice Kurtz of
Belmond.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Wesenberg; and
her mother, Viola Wesenberg, Nov. 24, 1990.

GLENVILLE, Minn.
Funeral services for Clarence G. Flatness, 91, Glenville, Minn.
will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Glenville,
Minn., with the Rev. David Hernes officiating. Interment will
be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn
Funeral Home, 1415 Highway 13 N., Albert Lea, Minn. and one hour
prior to services at the church.
Clarence died Sunday (May 19, 1996) at the home of his daughter
and son-in-law, Janice and Kenneth Houg.
Clarence was born on Dec. 21, 1904, in Worth County, Iowa, the
son of Martin and Anna (Pederson) Flatness.
On Jan. 25, 1930, he married Sena Hauge at the parsonage in
Kensett, Iowa.
They farmed in the Northwood area until 1945, when they moved
to their farm near Glenville. They resided on the farm until
1971 when they moved into Glenville.
Clarence enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his
grandchildren. He also enjoyed farming, visiting with friends
and especially loved animals.
Clarence was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Glenville
and served on the church council. He was a director of Hartland
#1 school in Worth County and was a member of the Glenville Senior
Citizens Club where he enjoyed playing cards and fellowship.
He enjoyed traveling, especially on the bus trips with the Sunshine
Travelers.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Sena; four sons, Marlin and
his wife, Donna Flatness of Glenville, Minn.; Richard and his
wife, Lois Flatness, of Albert Lea, Minn.; Donald and his wife,
Janet Flatness of Glenville, Minn.; and Lyle and his wife, Barb
Flatness of Maquoketa, Iowa; two daughters, Lois and her husband,
Archie Lau of Albert Lea, Minn.; and Janet and husband, Kenneth
Houg of Albert Lea, Minn.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren;
and four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry and his
wife, Lillian Flatness of Mason City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Bert
Flatness of Mason City; and brother-in-law, Ernest Hauge and
his wife, Alice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ida Fredickson;
and one in infancy; a twin brother, Alvin; and brothers, Palmer,
John Theodore, Melvin and Elmer; and three great-grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

CAMBRIA, Wis.
Maurice Stanford Colby, 72, of Cambira, died Saturday (May
18, 1996) at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics,
after several months of failing health.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First
Presbyterian Church, Cambria, with the Rev. Julie WaterDu officiating.
Burial will follow at the Cambria Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Thomas/Kratz Funeral
Home, Cambria, and from noon until time of service at the church
on Wednesday.
Maurice was born on March 27, 1924, in Thompson, Iowa, the son
of Stanley Philip and Anna Marie (Thompson) Colby.
He received his education in Lake Mills, Iowa.
On July 20, 1947, he was married to Dorothy Mae Pavek in the
``Little Brown Church in the Vale,'' in Nashua, Iowa.
They farmed for 20 years in Lake Mills, and in 1967, they purchased
the Cambria State Bank in Cambria.
Maurice was an entrepreneur of many small business around Cambria
and surrounding communities.
He was involved in housing developments in Cambria and Poynette,
was owner and manager of the Strongs Bank in Dodgeville, Commercial
State Bank in Iron Ridge with a branch office in Neosho, and
the Arlington State Bank in Arlington.
After his retirement in 1986, he and Dorothy traveled and wintered
in Harlingen, Texas.
Maurice loved his vintage cars, especially his Cadillac convertible.
Mr. Colby also served his community by holding various positions
on the Cambria Village Board and was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church of Cambria.
Maurice will be sadly missed and mourned by his wife, Dorothy;
and his daughters, Carol Lynn (Steve) Pederson of Lake Mills,
Iowa, Janyce (Marvin) Koopmans of Cambria; his grandchildren,
Matthew, Jeffrey, Scott, and Todd Pederson, all of Lake Mills,
Jason, Justin and Megan Koopmans, all of Cambria; three brothers,
Royden (Betty) Colby, Spencer (Emily) Colby, and Duane (Janice)
Colby, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Lon, on
Sept. 12, 1988.

RAVENWOOD, MO.
Philip Joseph Pitzenberger, 90, of Ravenwood, Mo., formerly
of Rockwell, died Tuesday (May 14, 1996) at his home after a
brief illness.
Philip Pitzenberger was born May 2, 1906, in Rockwell, Iowa,
a son of Philip and Zita (Huinker)Pitzenberger.
He attended Sacred Heart Academy in Rockwell.
He married Clara Helen Lorenzen on May 5, 1930. They farmed
in the Rockwell-Sheffield area until 1949, when they moved to
Ravenwood, Mo., where he continued farming until retirement.
Survivors include four daughters, Delores Slagle and her husband,
George, of Des Moines, Marlene Miller and her husband, Byron,
of Ravenwood, Mo., Virginia Frear and her husband, Eugene, of
Maryville, Mo., and Karen Hanson and her husband, Lee, of Fairfax,
Mo.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers,
Amandus of Seneca, Mo., Cletus and his wife, Helen, of Ravenwood,
Mo., John and his wife, Dorothy, of Springdale, Ark., and Richard
and his wife, Virginia, of Rockwell; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara, in
1994; an infant son, Clarence; a daughter, Phyllis; and two brothers,
Paul and Irvin; and one sister, Carlotta Hutchison.
Services were held Thursday, May 16, 1996, in Maryville, Mo.

FALLBROOK, Calif.
Marlyn `Marnie' Vivalda, 62, of Fallbrook, died Monday (May
6, 1996).
She was born on Nov. 16, 1933 in Britt, Iowa to Ivan and Alberta
Iverson.
She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1951.
At her request, there was no service. She was cremated and buried
at sea.
Mrs. Vivalda did volunteer work at Maie Ellis Daycare, Madonna
Preschool and Vista High School.
She worked for 18 years as an operator and supervisor with the
telephone company in Mason City and Garner and in Huntington
Park, Calif.
After moving to Fallbrook 24 years ago, she worked at Robert
Shaw's, was a receptionist at the Army/Navy Academy, Carlsbad,
Calif., and worked in the base housing department on Camp Pendleton,
Calif.
She was affectionately known as the ``Goat Lady on Morro Road''
because one of her pet goats gave birth to five babies at once.
Memorial donations may be made to The Fallbrook Hospice, 624
E. Elder Street, Fallbrook, Calif. 92028.
Arrangements were made under the direction of Berry-Bell & Hall

as a result of an auto accident.

Kathy was born Oct. 10, 1950, in Belmond, Iowa, the daughter
of Robert and Donna Benson Slining.
She attended school in Goodell and Belmond, graduating from
Belmond High School in 1968.
She then attended nursing school in Des Moines.
In 1969, she was united in marriage with Jeff Modderman. He
passed away in 1973.
On March 5, 1977, she was united in marriage with Dennis Didio
in Belmond, Iowa.
She worked for several years as a lab tech at USS Agri-Chem,
and worked for the past six years as the director of medical
records at the Belmond Community Hospital.
Kathy enjoyed flowers and plants. She also enjoyed collecting
hummingbirds in pictures and plates.
She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Belmond.
Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family. She is remembered
as having a general concern for everyone and will be deeply missed
by her family and friends.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Dennis of Belmond; her daughter,
Diena and her husband, Daren Mennengaa of Belmond; her son, Ryan,
at home; her father and stepmother, Robert and Martha Slining
of Belmond; one sister, Roxanne Patterson of St. Louis, Mo.;
one brother, Lynn Slining of Des Moines, Iowa; one stepsister,
Delorys and her husband, Marvin Lonnevik of Britt; two stepbrothers,
Lyle and his wife, Sandra Kling of Seneca, S.C., and Kendall

She moved to Mason City in 1930. She was a clerk at Eaton Department
Store and Fabric Shop. Olive enjoyed reading, sewing, and crossword
puzzles.
She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and
was past president of the Holy Family Church Guild. She was a
member of St. Veronica Circle, the Athenian Study Club, and the
Catholic Daughters of the Americas Joan of Arc Court #11. She
was active in the Grandmothers Club #116, the GGG Sorority, and
the Girl Scouts.
Survivors include one daughter, Molly Tomke and her husband,
Craig, of Hayden, Colo.; two granddaughters, Valerie Boehlje
and her husband, Chad, of Pella, Iowa, and Katie Krumm and her
husband, Michael, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and many nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John ``Jack'' Whalen
in 1987; and one brother, George Beaving in 1993.

Robert served in the United States Air Force during the Korean
conflict. Following the service, he moved back to Clear Lake.
He worked for Severson-Beck Excavating as a heavy equipment
operator, later Hollatz Excavating and then until the time of
his death for Heartland Asphalt Co.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, his family and especially his
grandchildren, Benjamin and Elizabeth.
He was a member of Clear Lake VFW.
Robert is survived by his mother, Ruth (Tarr) Seidel of Clear
Lake; his wife, Pauline Tarr, of Clear Lake; one son, Greg
Tarr and his wife, LuAnn, of Des Moines, and their two children,
Benjamin Robert Tarr and Elizabeth Marie Tarr; six brothers,
Donald Tarr, Wautoma, Wis.; Allen Tarr and his wife, Betty, of

at Winnebago Industries and the Mitchell County Maintenance Department.
Everett retired in 1986.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Everett is survived by two daughters, Marsha Pajer and her husband,
Charles, of Osage, and Lori Handahl and her husband, Barry, of
Austin, Minn.; a grandson, Scott Pajer of Mason City; a brother,
Melbourne Havig of Osage; five sisters, Grace Havig and Dorothy

in Mason City, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1977.
They farmed at Rockford, Iowa, until 1959, and near Hillsboro,
Wis., from 1959 to 1966. They then moved moved to Newark, Ill.,
where he worked for the Archor Petroleum Oil Company, until 1978
when he moved back to Wisconsin.
He is survived by a daughter, Evelyn (Charles) Voss of 937 Anchor
Lake Rd., Carriere, Miss. 39426-7364; two sons, Lonnie Johnson
of La Crosse, and Jerry (Marie) Johnson of England; 12 grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret (John) McGregor of
Viroqua, Wis.; two brothers, Carl (Lillian) Johnson of Storm
Lake, Iowa, and Alvin (Ann) Johnson of Rockford, Iowa; and two
sisters-in-law, Annie Johnson of Moville, Iowa, and Bernice Johnson

Mr. Duea was born May 5, 1914, in Roland, the son of Homer and
Julia (Woster) Duea. He graduated from McCallsburg High School
in McCallsburg and then attended Iowa State University, Ames.
He married Eunice A. Fincham on Sept. 25, 1938, in Gilbert.
Joe was a lifelong farmer and farm manager. He was a well known
purebred livestock breeder, exhibitor and judge. One of his
most memorable experiences was having the Grand Champion Steer
at the International Livestock Exhibition in Chicago, Ill., in
1945.
They have resided in the Ventura area and have enjoyed spending
their winters in Mesa, Ariz.
He was a charter member of the Cerro Gordo Extension Council,
a long-time 4-H member and leader and received the 4-H alumna
award in 1978. He was charter member of Story County Junior
Farm Bureau which was started in 1932. He also was a member
of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake. Joe enjoyed gardening and
raising roses and gladiolas.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Duea, of Ventura; three sons,
Alan Duea and his wife, Chris, of Clear Lake; Steve Duea and
his wife, Kathy, of Mankato, Minn., and Joe Duea of Mankato,
Minn.; one daughter, Carolyn Coe, and her husband, Bill, of Ventura;
eight grandchildren, Daphne Feekes, Dustin Duea, Eric Coe, Colette
Sampson, Aaron Coe, Ben Duea, Kyle Duea and Nicole Duea; four
great-grandchildren, Felicia Feekes, Nicholas Coe, Jennifer Coe
and Clayton Sampson; one sister, Gerry Munson, and her husband,

Elizabeth Madaline Baker, 82, of Belmond, died Thursday (May
23, 1996) at the Belmond Health Care Center.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday
at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Currier
and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis
Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Tenold
Funeral Home, with a 2:30 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters
of the Americas and Rosary Society and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.
Elizabeth Baker was born Sept. 25, 1913, at Steamboat Rock.
Survivors include sons, Robert Keleher of Fremont, Calif., and
Larry Keleher of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughters, Donna Freese
of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Diana Bell of Avinger, Texas; brothers,
Adam Just of Sheffield, and John Just of Belmond; one sister,
Ann Nelson of Dows; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two
sisters and two granddaughters.

Steve Powers, 82, of Lakota, died Friday (May 24, 1996) at
Blue Earth United Hospital, Blue Earth, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Ledyard, with the Rev. John Thomas officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be a military
graveside service.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Garry-Roberts-
Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft. There will be a parish
prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Steve Powers was born July 14, 1913, in DeKalb, Ill.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Taber, of Mankato,
Minn.; one son, Robert, of Emmetsburg; and one sister, Kay O'Connor
of Montrose, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four brothers.

James A. Nelson Sr., 86, of Crystal Lake, died Friday (May
24, 1996) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist
Church, Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Ken Suetterlin officiating.
Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery.

CHARLES CITY
Doris Clay Wall, 69, a resident of 508 17th Ave., died Thursday
morning (May 23, 1996) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser
Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Bill Kelly of the
Assembly of God Church of Charles City officiating. Burial will
be in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m.
Monday and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday.
Doris Ann Stillions Clay Wall was born March 15, 1927, at Charles
City, the daughter of Dewey and Dora Mae Herman Stillions.
She received her education in the Charles City Schools.
On March 25, 1944, she was united in marriage to Clair E. Clay
Sr. at Charles City. They later divorced.
On May 25, 1976, she was united in marriage to L. Frank Wall
at Charles City.
She was employed by the Chautauqua Guest Homes for 15 years
as a housekeeper in which she took a great deal of pride.
She loved to garden and thoroughly enjoyed family get togethers,
fishing, camping and blue grass music.
She loved to travel to Missouri to hear the blue grass concerts.
Her oldest son, Clair, was always elected to take her there,
to Washington or California on trips.
She also loved to go to church on Sunday except when she became
very sick with heart problems. She had a quadruple bypass in
June of 1995.
Her family and friends are going to miss her dearly, but her
dog, ``Baby Precious'' is going to be lost.
Kathy will no longer have to set up her ``meds.'' She will surely
miss the visits with Mom she had at that time.
``Momma'' I love you, Marrian.
Living family members include six sons and their wives, Roger
and Pam Clay of Olympia, Wash.; David and Sharon Clay of Floyd;
Steve and Linda; Clair Jr.; Greg and Terry, and Ronald Clay,
all of Charles City; five daughters, Edna (Mrs. Robert) White
of Floyd and Marrian Linde, JoAnn Bailey, Kathy (Mrs. Tom) White
and Patricia (Mrs. Bill) Kellogg, all of Charles City; a sister,
Janie (Betty) Herman of Charles City; and three brothers, Admiral
Stillions of Clear Lake, Calif., Dewey Stillions Jr. of Charles
City, and Lyle Stillions of Orchard; and a very special friend,
Rose Washburn of Charles City; 41 grandchildren; and 18 great-
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three stepsisters
and two grandsons.
