Charles Wilson Mayo

MASON CITY 



Charles Wilson Mayo, 73, of Elkhart and Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly

of Mason City, died Sunday (June 2, 1996) at Elkhart General

Hospital, Elkhart, Ind.



Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, in Carol

Stream, Ill., with the Rev. Martha Hill of St. Andrew United

Methodist Church officiating.



Interment was private. A folded flag was presented to the family.



Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. June 6. The Brust Funeral

Home, Carol Stream, Ill., was in charge of arrangements.



A service was also held in Elkart, Ind., June 4.



Charles was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Mason City, the son of Mariano

and Lucinda (Pickett) Mayo.



He received his education in Mason City schools. After high

school he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1942 he

enlisted in the Navy and was stationed on aircraft carriers in

the South Pacific (one  the U.S.S. Wasp).



Charles and his family lived in Melrose Park and Bellwood, Ill.,

during his 30 years with Guardian Metals of Chicago. He moved

to Elkhart, Ind., working for Cabot Industries until the time

of his retirement at age 63. Then he delivered customized vans

from Elkhart to dealers in several states.



His great joy was time with his children and grandchildren,

in  recent years special days of boating on Lake Michigan with

them. He found pleasure in camping  a trip to Florida in December

1995. He enjoyed the stops at Maason City's MacNider Campgrounds.



Survivors include two daughters, Madelyn Lullo and her husband,

Anthony, Niles, Ill., and Patricia Kasion and her husband, Greg,

Earlville, Ill.; one son, Joseph Mayo and his wife, Andrea, Carol

Stream, Ill.; a son-in-law, Bill Coduti, Bartlett, Ill.; a sister,

Dolores Ward and her husband, Arleigh, Mason City; a half sister,

Ramona Mayo Edwards, Mason City; three brothers, Lloyd, Urbandale;

Delbert, Edmond, Okla., and Louis, Grinnell; seven grandchildren,

Anthony and Nick Lullo, Bob and Joe Mayo, Michael and Christina

Coduti, and Claire Kasion, and a loving friend, Janet Johnson,

Fort Wayne, Ind., many nieces, nephews and relatives.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Leslie

Coduti in November 1995.

Hazel Schultz, 86, of St. Ansgar, formerly of Grafton, died

Thursday (June 20, 1996) at the Good Samaritan Home, St. Ansgar.



Funeral services will be held  at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel

Lutheran Church, Grafton,  with the Rev. Gregory Bjornstad officiating.

Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Champion Funeral

Home, Osage.



Hazel Schultz was born Nov. 4, 1909, in Barton Township, Worth

County, near Grafton.



Survivors include one son, Glenn Schultz of West Burlington;

10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy

Rodemaker of Manly, Gertrude Merkel of Mason City, and Evelyn

Nelson of Lime Springs; and two brothers, Armond Braun of St.

Ansgar and Everett Braun of Grafton.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons,

one brother and one sister.



Memorials may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Sunday School.

CLARION



Margaret Campbell, 80, of Clarion, died Wednesday (June 19,

1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the

Clarion Church of Christ, with Mark Young officiating. Burial

will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.



Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral

Home,  with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.



Margaret Campbell was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Fortuna, Mo.



Survivors include her husband, Frank J. Campbell Sr.; one daughter,

Pauline Askvig, of Clarion; eight grandchildren; 13 great-

grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two

sons.

MASON CITY 



Guadalupe ``Lupe'' Arispe, 87, of 603 S. Carolina Ave., died

Wednesday (June 19, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient

Unit.



A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred

Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway, Manly, with the Rev.

Thomas McAndrew officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart

Catholic Cemetery, Manly.



Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial

Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly, where a Spanish rosary will be

said at 7 p.m., followed by a Scriptural wake service.



Mrs. Arispe was born July 3, 1908, at Morelia, Mexico, daughter

of Anastacio and Frances (Ruiz) Mejia.



She attended school near Austin, Texas.



She married Ben Arispe on April 17, 1928, at New Brownsville,

Texas.



They moved to Manly in 1939.



For the last 10 years, Mrs. Arispe has resided in Mason City.



She will be fondly remembered by her family as being a wonderful

mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.



She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting and spending

time with her grandchildren.



She will be sadly missed.



Survivors include two sons, Frank Arispe of Arkansas, and Pete

Arispe of Manly; five daughters, Mrs. Jesse (Angie) Diaz of Mason

City; Mrs. William (Mary) Starkey of Magnolia, Del.; Mrs. Joseph

(Sylvia) Jimenez of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. John (Marcella ``Margie'')

Marth of Charles City, and Mrs. John (Mary Ellen) Ginder of Mason

City; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers,

Tony Mejia of St. Paul, Minn., and Phil Mejia of Mason City;

three sisters, Mrs. Julian (Sylvia) Mujica of Mason City; Jessie

Zalazar of St. Paul, Minn., and Mary Becker of Charles City;

a daughter-in-law, Carmen Arispe of Mason City; and many nieces

and nephews.



Mrs. Arispe was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, on July

10, 1979; eight children, Christina, Ned, John I, John II, Angel,

Anastacio, Valentine and Paul; two sisters, Lola Escabedo and

Gabina Rodrigues; and one brother, Joe Mejia.

City, of natural causes.

Oelwein.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 123 Third St. N.E., Mason City.



There will be further visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at

the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, 221 N. Frederick Ave., Oelwein,

where other arrangements are incomplete.

Patricia A. Farquhar was born Feb. 26, 1943, at Forest City.



She is survived by her husband, John, of Klemme; her children,

Kenneth Farquhar of St. Louis, Mo.; Lisa Miner of Chicago, Ill.,

and Michael Farquhar  of Pella; three grandchildren; her mother,

Charlotte Mae Hanson of Garner; and three sisters, Charlene Johnson

of Truman, Minn.; Jill Anderson of Norwalk, and Lorrie Formanek

of Garner.



She was preceded in death by her father and one son.

Pearline Johnson, the daughter of Engle and Jessie (Schutjer)

Van Dusseldorp, was born Oct. 31, 1922, at Wesley.



She attended the rural schools in Britt, and on Aug. 18, 1945,

was united in marriage to Merle Johnson in Garner.



The couple farmed near Hutchins for a few years and then moved

to rural Woden, where they farmed until Merle's death in 1957.



She then moved her family to Wesley and worked at the Hancock

County Memorial Hospital, Britt.



She later moved to Crosby, Minn., where she worked as a nurses

aide for over five years at the Cayuna Range Hospital.



Pearline returned to Britt to care for her father until his

death and then moved back to Wesley, where she helped her son,

Carl, hatch and raise wildlife.



She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing and spending time with

her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



She is survived by her children, Connie Tegtmeyer and her husband,

Ervin, of Woden; Raymond Johnson and his wife, Dee, of Forest

City; Wilbur Johnson and his wife, Rose, of Buffalo Center; and

Carl ``Gene'' Johnson and his wife, Nancy, of Wesley; 10 grandchildren;

eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Bird of Britt;

a sister-in-law, Nona Van Dusseldorp of Britt; and many nieces

and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; parents; stepmother,

Lily Van Dusseldorp; a grandson, Shawn Johnson in 1991; two brothers,

Melvin and Carl Van Dusseldorp; and a niece, Karen Christensen

in 1994.

John I. Hanson was born Sept. 30, 1914, at Waterloo.



Survivors include two sons, Roger of Spencer, and Robert of

Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Sharon Jermier of Urbandale; a sister,

Bessie Ward of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; and two great-

grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and five brothers.

1996) at the Heritage Nursing Home.

Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a Catholic

Daughters of the Americas and Altar Society rosary at 3 p.m.

and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf

Funeral Home, Bancroft.



Margaret Arndorfer was born Sept. 22, 1906, at Streeter, Ill.



Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mary Ruth Barrows of Bancroft;

one stepson, Donald Arndorfer of Bancroft; 14 stepgrandchildren;

32 stepgreat-grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas Quinn of Norfork,

Neb.; Bert Quinn of Estherville; Monsignor Robert Quinn of Imperial

Beach, Calif., and Charles Quinn of Bancroft.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters

and four brothers.

Burial will be in Burt Township Cemetery.

Home, Burt. The body will be taken to the church at 11:30 a.m.

Monday.



John G. Graham was born March 21, 1905, at Titonka.



Survivors include one daughter, Janette Salley of Las Vegas,

Nev.;  one son, Jay Graham Jr. of Burt; three grandchildren;

and four stepgrandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and nine

sisters.

the First Baptist Church, Chancellor, S.D., with the Rev. Harold

in the Chancellor Baptist Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold

Funeral Home, Belmond.



Jack Wagner was born Dec. 4, 1912, at Chancellor, S.D.



Survivors include two sons, William Wagner of Belmond, and Joel

Wagner of Wethersfield, Conn.; one daughter, Jonell White of

Belmond; a stepson, Dennis Otten of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three

stepdaughters, Dolly Beyer of Belmond; Kaye Hawley of Sioux Falls,

S.D., and Barbara Freeburg of Kansas City; two sisters, Margaret

Meyer of Belmond, and Sophie Heeren of Chancellor, S.D.; 11 grandchildren;

and four great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his

second wife, an infant daughter, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral Home, 221 N. Frederick Ave., Oelwein, with the Rev. Carroll

Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at  Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 123 Third St. N.E., Mason City.



There will be further visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at

the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and one hour before

services at the funeral home on Monday.



A memorial fund has been established in his name.



Randall David Beckner was born May 12, 1965, at Oelwein, the

son of David Beckner and Betty (Kerns) Beckner.



He graduated from the Oelwein Community High School in 1983

and was a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church,

Oelwein; a member of the North Iowa Ducks Unlimited Chapter;

and a member of the North Iowa Bowhunters.



He had lived in the Mason City area for the last 12 years, having

worked at General Foods for the last three years.



Survivors include a daughter, Kaila Beckner of Mason City; his

mother, Betty Beckner of Oelwein; his father, David Beckner of

Burnsville, Minn.; two sisters, Trisha (Mrs. Dan) Mohlis of Reinbeck,

and Michelle (Mrs. Joe) Thilges of Dell Rapids, S.D.; two nieces,

Ashley and Kaitlin Mohlis; and his maternal grandmother, Carrie

L. Kerns of Oelwein.



He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harry

and Viola Beckner; and his maternal grandfather, Clarence Kerns.

June Osboe was born April 21, 1923, in Blairsburg.



Survivors include three daughters, Michele Shultz of Allison,

Cheryl Osboe Smith of Waterloo, and Lana DeVilbiss of Shell Rock,

Minn.; one son, Kent Osboe of Austin, Minn.; her mother, Marie

Caquelin of Mitchellville; two sisters, Rochelle Harris of Mitchellville,

and Carole Klaver of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and two

great-grandchildren.

George W. Nannenga, 77, died Saturday (June 22, 1996) at North

Iowa Mercy Health Center West, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical

Free Church, 1310 Highway 18 West, Clear Lake, with the Rev.

Larry Yeoman officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Park

Cemetery, Mason City.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo

Funeral Chapel, 160 East Fourth Street, Garner.



George Washington Nannenga, a son of Henry and Gertie (Ibeling)

Nannenga, was born June 22, 1919, at Alexander.  He attended

the rural schools of Alexander and Ventura and served his country

in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.

On April 22, 1948, he was married to Melva Cannon at the Lakeside

Church near Clear Lake.  The couple farmed in the Garner-Klemme

area for 25 years and then moved into Garner.  George had worked

for Urich Implement in Garner and retired in 1982.  He enjoyed

his family and going uptown to visit with his coffee friends.

He also enjoyed the outdoors and watching baseball games.



He is survived by his wife, Melva, of Garner; a son, Dennis

Nannenga and his wife, Cathy, of Garner; two grandchildren, Henry

and Lenita Nannenga, both of Garner; a brother, Herman Nannenga,

and his wife, Virginia, of Mason City; and two sisters-in-law,

Bernice Nannenga of Mason City and Mavis Nannenga of Thorton.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jacob

21, 1996) at St. Joseph Community Hospital of natural causes.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph

Catholic Church with the Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating.  Organist

will be Sister Lorraine Loecher.  The adult choir will sing.

Gerald's children will place the pall and his granddaughters

will be gift bearers.  John Loes will be lector.  Eucharistic

ministers will be Rose Weigel, Maureen Dee and Vi and Joe Palmersheim.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at New Hampton with Ryan,

Adam and Daniel Crooks, Robert MacMaster, Michael Njus and Clair

Roethler serving as casket bearers.  Honorary bearers will be

Al Recker, Don Blocker, Tom Mahoney, Bob Dee, Art Kohlas and

Andy Schmitt.  Honorary bearers from the Knights of Columbus

will be Fay Freidhof, Urban Sinnwell, Joe McAvoy, Willie Chihak,

John Loes and Henry Hoffman.



Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Conway Funeral Home in

New Hampton where there will be a combined Knights of Columbus,

Catholic Daughters and Rosary Society rosary at 4:30 and a parish

scripture service at 8 p.m.

Gerald F. Crooks was born Dec. 6, 1903, at Elma, a son of James

Henry and Gracie (Smith) Crooks.  He attended Elma High School

and graduated from the Eklund Business College in Waterloo.

He farmed and managed the Devon Elevator from 1929 to 1939.

He owned Crooks Implement in Alta Vista from 1939 until retiring

in 1981 when he and his wife moved to the Smith Century Farm

near New Hampton where they had  lived since.



While in Alta Vista, Gerald was a member of St. Bernard's Church

and served many years as fire chief.



Gerald is survived by his wife, Hazel; two daughters, Cheryl

C. Madsen and her husband, Luke, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and

Denise G. Brinker and her husband, Bill, of Maplewood, Minn.;

three sons, Craig G. and his wife, Jan, of Mason City, James

F. of El Reno, Okla., and Kevin D. and his wife, Debbie, of Alta

Vista; four granddaughters, Kelly, Kristina, Katie Jo and Sydney;

five grandsons, Ryan, Daniel, Adam, Robert and Jared; and one

sister, Geraldine Hoven of Los Altos, Calif.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Velma was born May 18, 1898, in Rippey, a daughter of Alex W.

and Libby (Moritz) High.  She graduated from Rippey High School,

then studied music at Jones College in Perry.



Velma married Howard E. Jackson on Jan. 20, 1921, in Jefferson.

Velma and Howard moved to Mason City in 1932.  Howard died in

1988 and in 1991, Velma moved to Arizona.  Velma was a member

of the First United Methodist Church, Serosis Club, P.E.O. DZ

and was a former church circle member.



Survivors include one son, Robert H. Jackson and wife,  Kathryn,

of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Julianne Bergdale and

husband, Mark, of Scottsdale., and Suzanne Pearl and husband,

Carter, of Phoenix; and two great-grandchildren, Carter Alexander

Pearl and Forrest Jackson Pearl.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, two brothers

and one sister.

He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of the Fort

South Des Moines Lions Club, Independent Free Papers of America,

National Association of Advertising Publishers, Shopper's Guide

of Iowa and South Des Moines Chamber of Commerce.



He is survived by two sons, Philip and wife, Pamela Fox, of

Gladstone, Mo., and Kenneth and wife, Jean Fox, of Tucson, Ariz.;

three grandchildren, Billy Fox, Wendy Fox and Amanda Fox; three

Patricia Ann Farquhar, the daughter of Herbert and Charlotte

(Valley) Hanson, was born on Feb. 26, 1943, at Forest City.

She attended the rural schools of Crystal Lake and graduated

from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1960.



On Nov. 4, 1960, she was married to John David Farquhar at

the Presbyterian Church in Garner.  The couple farmed southwest

of Garner for 33 years and in 1993 moved to rural Klemme where

they continued farming.



Pat had worked at North Central Human Services in Forest City

for a few years and was a volunteer for Crisis Intervention and

Hospice of North Iowa.  Her great joy was spending time with

her children and grandchildren.  Pat enjoyed reading, writing

poems, music, camping and working on the computer.



She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church.



She is survived by her husband, John; her children, Kenneth

Farquhar and his wife, Mary, of St. Louis, Mo., Lisa Miner and

her husband, Neil, of Kildeer, Ill., and Michael Farquhar of

Pella and his special friend, Windi Olson; three grandchildren,

Adam, Matthew and Aimee Farquhar of St. Louis, Mo; her mother,

Charlotte Larson of Garner; three sisters, Charlene Johnson and

her husband, Jerry, of Truman, Minn., Jill Anderson and her husband,

David, of Norwalk, and Lorrie Formanek and her husband, Bernie,

Pauline was born on August 26, 1919, to Robert and Gladys (Waidelich)

Quade.  Following graduation from Colwell High School, Pauline

was united in marriage to Edward Schmitt on Feb. 7, 1948, in

Roseville.



Pauline spent most of her time raising her nine children and

being a homemaker, she also enjoyed shopping, embroidering, gardening,

and canning.  Pauline was also known for baking good pies, cookies,

and homemade breads when time was available.  She was active

with the Guilds of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, were she was

also a member.  She loved to travel and visit family whenever

possible.  She enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls and the Iowa

Hawkeyes play basketball on T.V.



Pauline is survived by her husband, Edward; five daughters,

Mrs. Ralph (Janice) Brighton of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Mrs.

Rod (Trish Bean of Johnston, Mrs. Al (Marlene) Paulus of Chillicothe,

Mo., Dianne Schmitt of Joilet, Ill., and Kathleen Schmitt of

Omaha, Neb.; four sons, Gary Schmitt and wife Jeannette of Rockwell,

Beryl Bobst was born at home Feb. 13, 1919, in West Fork Township,

son of George and Minnie (Letzring) Bobst.  He was married to

Edith Buttjer on June 5, 1939, at Edina, Minn.  Beryl farmed

all his life in Butler, Franklin and Cerro Gordo counties, moving

to Clear Lake in 1962, where he farmed until his death.  He loved

to fish and collect fine antiques.  He especially enjoyed his

horses and dogs.



Survivors include his wife, Edith Bobst of Clear Lake; two daughters,

Arthena Freeseman and her husband, Gordon of Greene, and Katherine

Smith and her husband, James of Clear Lake; five grandchildren,

Kevin D. Freeseman of Round Lake Beach, Ill., Terri Boelts of

K. Smith, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven great-grandchildren,

Lloyd A. Allen, the son of Roy and Velma (Jacobs) Allen, was

born July 23, 1936 on a farm near Nashua.  He grow up in Nashua

and graduated from Nashua High School in 1954 then he served

in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.



Lloyd was united in marriage to LaVonne C. Springer on June

22, 1955 in New Hampton.  They lived in Clear Lake for seven

years then moved to Mason City.  In 1981 they moved to Clarion.

 Lloyd worked in the dairy service industry for 33 years, first

working for Carnation then later working for Swiss Valley Farms

and Anderson Erickson Dairy.  He attended Veterans Agriculture

Production school for four years and NIACC and Iowa State University

Extension Services.  He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church

and the Mason City Teamsters 828.



Lloyd enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, golfing, outboard motor

rebuilding, woodworking, and cabinet making.



Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; two sons, Steve and his

wife Kim and their children Ashley and Amber of O'Fallon, Mo.;

and Bill and his wife Polly and their children Russell and Eliz

of Bremerton, Wis.; one sister Betty Ponto of Powersville; one

brother, Roger of Dane, Wis.

She was joined in marriage on Jan. 3, 1935, in Mason City to

Clarence P. Schultz and they recently celebrated their 61st wedding

anniversary with their family.



Marie was a homemaker, enjoyed playing the piano and she devoted

her life to her family. Her greatest joy was when the whole family

was together.



She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church.



Marie will be sadly missed by her survivors.



Survivors include her husband, Clarence P. Schultz of Mason

City; a daughter, Jean Fiala and her husband, Wallace, of Mason

City; a daughter, Darleen Schultz of Mason City; a son, Donald

United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Richard Zulauf officiating.

Burial will be in the Marian Center Cemetery, Latimer.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim

Funeral Home, Latimer.



Gerald K. Schaffer was born Jan. 13, 1903, in Osceola.



Survivors include three daughters, Carole Leisinger of Waterloo,

Judith Muhlenbruck of Latimer, and Alice Miller of Elkhart; 12

grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lela

Yates of Raleigh, N.C., and Helen Gardner of Osceola.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers,

one sister and three daughters.

Mabel `Inez' Shackleton

MANLY



Mabel ``Inez'' Shackleton, 86, formerly of Eagleville, Mo.,

died Saturday (June 22, 1996) at the Manly Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Roberson-Polley

Funeral Home, Eagleville, Mo., with the Rev. Joe DeBarth officiating.

Burial will be in Lone Rock Cemetery, near Eagleville, Mo.



Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.today at the Roberson-Polley

Funeral Home.



Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City,

is handling arrangements.



Mrs. Shackleton was born June 28, 1909, near Pawnee, Mo., daughter

of Berry and Cynthia (Bowen) Johnson.



She attended rural schools in Harrison County, Mo.



She was married to Elmer Glade Shackleton on Sept. 9, 1926,

in Bethany, Mo.



The couple farmed many years near Eagleville, Mo.



Mrs. Shackleton also worked as a cook at the State Line Cafe

and later at her sister Amy's cafe, both in Blythdale, Mo.



She enjoyed baking pies and attracted many customers because

of her pies.



She enjoyed having large vegetable and flower gardens, crocheting,

quilting and traveling.



She especially loved solving crossword puzzles and spending

time with her family.



She was a member of the Reorganized  Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-day Saints, the new 20th Century Club and the Golden

Age Club.



Survivors include three sons, Clyde Shackleton and his wife,

Ella, of Mason City; Ora Shackleton and his wife, Mary Lou, of

Spring Valley, Minn.; and Eugene Shackleton and his wife, Gwen,

of Manly; one daughter, Irene Webb and her husband, Jack, of

Leon; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; five great-great-

grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-

grandchild; two sisters, Amy Harrison and her husband, Harold,

and Ruby Weddle, both of Bethany, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.



Mrs. Shackleton was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer;

her parents, Berry and Cynthia Johnson; one sister, Vergie Ward;

and one grandson, Randy Shackleton.

Floyd E. `Bud' Butcher

MASON CITY



Floyd E. ``Bud'' Butcher, 63, of 211 20th St. S.E., died Saturday

(June 22, 1996) at the IOOF Home from complications of Alzheimer's

Disease.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Major

Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania  Ave., with the Rev.

David Shogren of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, and until time of services on Wednesday.



Floyd E. ``Bud'' Butcher was born July 15, 1932, the son of

Richard and Julia (Morrison) Butcher in Dixon, Mo.



Floyd was raised near Rockwell by his uncle and aunt, Art and

Florence Butcher.



Floyd attended Bath Township #4 Country school and graduated

from Rockwell High School in 1951.



Floyd worked for Jacob E. Decker and Sons for a short time.



He married Marcia Brown on Feb. 9, 1952, at the First Congregational

Church in Mason City.



For a short time, Floyd tenant farmed and worked at Allied Mills.



He then worked for AMPI for 30 years, retiring on disability.



He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the IOOF

Lodge #224 and the Moose Lodge.



He volunteered at the Lime Creek Nature Center and was a political

volunteer.



Survivors include his wife, Marcia Butcher of Mason City; two

daughters, Betty Wade and her husband, Larry, of Rochester, Ill.,

and Brenda Pyle and her husband, Larry, of Muscatine; two sons,

Ken Butcher and his wife, Maureen, of Ankeny, and Steve Butcher

and his wife, Sheryl, of Mason City; 12 grandchildren, Chris,

Stacy and Heather Wade, Cameron, Seth, Eric and Ellen Pyle, Nicole,

Michelle and B.J. Butcher, Kelley and Morgan Quigley; a special

uncle, Art Butcher of Mason City; and several nieces, nephews

and cousins.



He was preceded in death by his parents; a special aunt, Florence

Butcher; one daughter-in-law; and one granddaughter.
