Hazel C. Mitchell

FOREST CITY



Mrs. James (Hazel) Mitchell, 80, of Forest City, died Monday

(June 10, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason

City.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. James

Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial

will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen

Lund Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service.



Hazel C. Mitchell was born in Forest City on Feb. 11, 1916,

the daughter of Otto and Irma (Beinert) Gelner.



She received her education in Forest City and graduated from

Forest City High School in 1933.



She worked for a time at the Palace of Sweets and Grahams Department

Store.



While working in Boone, she met her future husband, James P.

Mitchell. The couple was married at  St. James Catholic Church

in Forest City on Nov. 28, 1940.



They lived for a time in Webster City and Ames.



Since James' return from his time in the service during World

War II, they have made their home in Forest City.



Hazel was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Forest

City.



She was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother.



She loved her grandchildren very much. Home and family were

Hazel's whole world and she took wonderful care of each.



She entered North Iowa Mercy Health Center on May 23 and died

there on June 10, 1996, at the age of 80 years.



She is survived by her husband, James P. Mitchell of Forest

City; two daughters, Carolyn Konechne and her husband, Wayne,

of Ames, and Mary Harms and her husband, Michael, of Forest City;

a son, James D. Mitchell and his wife, Corinne, of Urbandale,;

a sister, Mrs. Elsie Nelson of Des Moines; eight grandchildren,

Matthew, Mason, Melissa and Melanie Harms, Kim Coats, Kari Paulson,

Todd and Chad Mitchell; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Paulson.



Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Eugene

Gelner; a sister, Ivy Gelner; and a granddaughter, Angela Marie

Harms.

Louise H. Heins, 92, of Hampton, died Sunday (June 9, 1996)

at the Franklin General Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St.

Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. A.E. Norson officiating.

Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Sietsema-Vogel

Funeral Home.



Louise H. Heins was born March 23, 1904, in Franklin County.



Survivors include four sons, Henry Fred Heins of Hampton; Paul

Robert Heins of Ames; Donald Ernest Heins of Raleigh, N.C., and

Lee Richard Heins of Hampton; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three

brothers.

at the Dows Health Care Center.

Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Rowan.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Elledge

Funeral Home, Dows.



Minnie Marie Martin was born Oct. 31, 1911, in Alexander.



Survivors include four daughters, Fonda Pals of  Belmond; Shirley

Olson of St. Ansgar; Barbara Range of Clarion, and Joyce Engelmeier

of Olathe, Kan.; one son, Garold Martin of Rowan; 13 grandchildren;

11 stepgrandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great

-grandchildren; and one sister, Edna Rasmussen of St. Paul, Minn.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers,

three sisters, one grandson and one granddaughter.

GLENSIDE, Pa.



Viola (Wass) Walton, 83, a former Mason City, Iowa, resident,

died May 29, 1996, in Glenside, a suburb of Philadelphia.



Walton was a graduate of Mason City High School and Mason City

Junior College. She worked for many years at Lundbergs.



Memorial services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in

Glenside.



She is survived by her husband, George; three daughters; one

son; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Wass, of Mason

City, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Goodell.

Bert Steadly was born Nov. 27, 1901, in Keokuk.



There are no survivors.



He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and

sisters.

Clifford L. Larson, 85, of Lake Mills, died Sunday (June 9,

1996) at the Birchwood Care Center, Forest Lake, Minn.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Immanuel

Lutheran Church, Scarville, with the Rev. Philip and Marilyn

Peters officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery,

rural route, Scarville.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mittelstadt

Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services at the

church.



Clifford L. Larson was born May 28, 1911, in Norway Township,

near Scarville.



Survivors include one daughter, Betty A. Spence of Stacy, Minn.;

one son, Roger L. Larson of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; four

grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers

and two sisters.

Irene A. Nowell, 82, of 302 Second St. N.E.,  died Saturday

(June 8, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Major

Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave,. with the Rev.

Dan Conklin of Calvary Alliance Church officiating. Burial will

be in the Coulter Cemetery, Coulter.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and until time

of services at Major Erickson Funeral Home.



Memorials may be given to the Irene A. Nowell Memorial Fund.



Irene A. Nowell was born Nov. 5, 1913 in Latimer, the daughter

of John S. and Anna (Jasperson) Damm.



Irene attended schools in Latimer.



She married Kenneth H. Nowell on Feb. 14, 1934 at the Coulter Church.



Irene moved to Mason City in 1955 and cleaned home for people

for several years. She enjoyed housekeeping and cooking.



Irene attended Calvary Alliance Church in Mason City for many

years.



Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. Anderson and her

husband, Robert K., of Albert Lea, Minn., and Karolyn K. Nowell

of Mason City; two granddaughters, Virginia A. Tyler and her

husband, Charles, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Deborah K. Lenz and

her husband, Warren, of Albert Lea, Minn.; five great-grandchildren,

Joshua, Aleshia and Jacob Tyler, and Steven and Chelsey Lenz.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother,

one daughter in infancy and one grandchild in infancy.

Stephen G. Kiroff, 69, of 1009 Sixth St. S.W., died Sunday (June

9, 1996) at home.



A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Greek

Orthodox Church of Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W., with

the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Burial will be in Memorial

Park Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Mason

City Veterans Association.



Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Trisagion service beginning

at 7 p.m.



Stephen G. Kiroff was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Mason City, son

of Alex and Anna (Krivahlavy) Kiroff.



He married Katherine Kavars on May 13, 1950, in Mason City.



Stephen grew up in Mason City and attended Mason City Schools.



He served in the United States Navy during World War II and

was stationed on the USS Boston.



He was supervisor of the Cerro Gordo Landfill for 23 years until

retiring in 1992. He then worked part time for Vern Mondry

Construction.



Stephen was an avid bowler. He enjoyed fishing.



He was a member of the VFW.



Survivors include his wife, Katherine Kiroff of Mason City;

two sons, Mark Kiroff of Clear Lake, and Sheldon Kiroff and his

wife, Yana, of Mason City; one daughter, Debera Speckmeier and

her husband, Reinhold, of Mason City; six grandchildren, Jacob

Kiroff of Clear Lake, Cody Kiroff of Charles City, Reinhold Speckmeier

of Mason City, and Zakariah, Allison and Matthew Kiroff, all

of Mason City; three brothers, Alex Kiroff and his wife, Marcia,

of Omaha, Neb.; Franklin Kiroff and his wife, Sheryl, of Mason

City, and Jim Kiroff and his wife, Sharon, of Mason City; four

sisters, Marie Lance and her husband, DeLoss; Katherine Bohl

and her husband, Marvin; Rose Lumley and her husband, Bob, and

Patty Kogel, all of Mason City;  two brothers-in-law, Gus and

George Kavars, both of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers,

Carl, John, Bobby and Peter Kiroff Sr.

Dennis Alt was born Oct. 16, 1944, in Mason City.



Survivors include six sisters, Mary Lou Book of Fertile, Judy

Alt of Hampton, Eloise Nicklaus of Eldridge, Arlene Sweeney of

Mason City, Marie Royer of Wayzata, Minn., and Josephine Hall

of Waterville, Minn.; one brother, Thomas Taylor of Missoula,

Mont.; and his foster father, Cecil Weaver of Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one

sister.

at the Algona Manor Care Center.

United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Whittemore

Township Cemetery, Whittemore.

Home,   and will continue from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and

from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday.



Harold W. Frambach was born July 21, 1902, in Whittemore.



Survivors include twin daughters, Ruby Heinen and Ruth Hansen,

both of Algona; two sons, Dwight of Lone Rock, and Richard of

Algona; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-

great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one great-great-

granddaughter and one brother.

of Dumont, and Wilma Brass of Newton; one brother, Edward Walker

Monday (June 10, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Jack Vanden

Heuvel of Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church officiating.



Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Cedar Cemetery, Cherokee.

``Mike'' Hull was born April 20, 1943, in Storm Lake, the son

of Ralph and Gladys (Urban) Hull.



``Mike'' graduated from Sutherland High School.



He was a self-employed automobile body repair man for many years.



``Mike'' enjoyed country western music and taught country western

dance.



He also enjoyed cars and stock car racing.



Survivors include his wife, Charlene D. of Webster City; his

mother, Gladys F. Hull of Mason City; two sons, Patrick E. Hull

and his wife, Wanda, of Eagle Lake, Minn., and Troy A. Hull of

Mankato, Minn.; two grandchildren, Andrew and Nicole Hull; stepchildren,

Chandra Jones and her husband, Dr. Keith, of Tacoma, Wash.; Nicholas

R. Olson of Webster City; Shauna D. Olson of Webster City, and

Brigette J. Olson of Webster City; two sisters, Arvella Henderson

and her husband, Louis, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Sheryl J. Kramer

and her husband, Fred, of Mason City; and five nieces and nephews.

Margie Catherine (Callahan) Deets, 70, of 1334 Balsam Ave.,

Nora Springs, died Monday (June 10, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy

Nora Springs United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye, with the

Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery,

Nora Springs.

Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, and one hour prior to services at the

church on Thursday.



Margie Deets was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Kanawha, daughter of

Erle and Mary (Hewitt) Callahan.



She married Darrell Deets on Jan. 17, 1945, in Seattle, Wash.



She attended school at Cedar No. 5 in Mitchell County and attended

the Nora Springs High School.



She worked at Bellows Bakery in Nora Springs, the Egg Processing

Plant in Osage, Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., and the Park

Cemetery, Nora Springs.



Margie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and crafts.



She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the Nora

Springs United Methodist Church.



Survivors include her husband, Darrell Deets of Nora Springs;

one son, Darrell ``Rusty'' Deets and his wife, Sherry, of Bonham,

Texas; one daughter, Kim Hugunin and her husband, Clay, of Dickens;

two grandchildren, Dawn Partridge and her husband, Keith, of

Bonham, Texas, and Brian Deets of Sherman, Texas; one brother,

Johnny Callahan and his wife, Bernice, of Austin, Minn.; one

sister, Nada Davison and her husband, Jack, of Nora Springs;

and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

Fred W. ``Fritz'' Wasicek, 73, of 2206 S. Jefferson Ave.,

chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Burial will be

at the Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth, with a flag folding ceremony

conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.



Visitation will be held from noon until time of services Thursday

at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.



Memorials may be given to the Fred W. ``Fritz'' Wasicek Memorial

Fund.



Fred W. ``Fritz'' Wasicek was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Plymouth,

the son of Emil and Helen (Tosel) Wasicek.



He attended school in Mason City.



``Fritz'' served in the United States Navy during World War

II.



He married Laurine Barney on Oct. 19, 1941, in Mason City.



``Fritz'' was co-owner of Mason City Glass & Paint for over

30 years.



He enjoyed playing the drums for various band. His own band,

``The Dude Ranchers'' performed weekly on the KGLO-TV Barn Dance.



``Fritz'' also enjoyed fishing and he sponsored a slow pitch

softball team for a number of years.



He was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #375, Eagles

Lodge and the American Federation of Musicians l #567.



Survivors include his wife, Laurine, of Mason City; three sons,

Dennis Wasicek and his wife, Margery, of Mason City; Damon Wasicek

and his wife, Jeannett, of Mason City, and Donald Wasicek of

Manly; grandchildren, Christine, Kimberly and Tony Wasicek of

Mason City, Kelli and Jennifer Wasicek of Forest City; and one

great-grandchild, Alexa Wasicek of Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, David

Wasicek.

Dennis D. Klunder, 44, of 1701 N. Pennsylvania Ave., died Sunday

(June 9, 1996) at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after

a lengthy illness.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace

United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Herb

Shafer and the Rev. Harlan Stenberg officiating. Interment will

be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Fullerton Patterson

James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E.



Dennis was born on Oct. 10, 1951, in Mason City, the son of

Dale R. and Dorothy A. (Dunhoo) Klunder.



Following his graduation from Mason City High School, he was

employed in construction and was a truck driver for Peterson

Construction Company.



He was engaged to Diane Hewett.



He enjoyed many hours repairing almost everything, being a stock

car driver, spending time on his motorcycle, fishing and camping

with his children, and swimming in the pits.



Dennis was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.



Dennis is survived by his fiance, Diane Hewett; his mother and

stepfather, Dorothy and Royce Hippen of Mason City; two sons,

Matt Klunder of Mason City, and Casey Klunder of Kennewick, Wash.;

two sisters, Deann Lutcavish and Dawn Beller; one stepsister,

Brenda Hennigar of Fertile; three stepbrothers, Michael Hippen,

Bill Hippen and Randy Hippen; and many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her mother, Bernice Behrends of Albert Lea,

Dean Buntrock of St. Ansgar, and Glen Buntrock of Toeterville;

three sisters, Bernadine Latham of Minneapolis, Minn.; Donna

Oakland of Albert Lea, Minn., and Jolene Johnson of Cold Springs,

Minn.; two stepsisters, Ardis Waldron of Albert Lea, Minn., and

Lolene Welinski of Anoka, Minn.; four brothers, Ardell Tonga

Osage, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 1996) at the Good Samaritan Center,

St. Ansgar.

Dennis D. Klunder, 44, of 1701 N. Pennsylvania Ave., died Sunday

(June 9, 1996) at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after

a lengthy illness.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United

Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Herb Shafer

and the Rev. Harlan Stenberg officiating. Interment will be in

Memorial Park Cemetery.

James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., and at the church one

hour prior to services.



Dennis was born on Oct. 10, 1951, in Mason City, the son of

Dale R. and Dorothy A. (Dunhoo) Klunder.



Following his graduation from Mason City High School, he drove

truck  for Farm Service and was employed in construction with

Peterson Construction Company.



He was engaged to Diane Hewett.



He enjoyed many hours repairing almost everything, being a stock

car driver, spending time on his motorcycle, fishing and camping

with his children, and swimming in the pits.



Dennis was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.



Dennis is survived by his fiance, Diane Hewett; his mother and

stepfather, Dorothy and Royce Hippen of Mason City; a stepgrandmother,

Irene Hippen, Lakota; two sons, Matt Klunder of Mason City, and

Casey Klunder of Kennewick, Wash.; two sisters, Deann Lutcavish

and Dawn Beller; one stepsister, Brenda Hennigar of Fertile;

three stepbrothers, Michael Hippen, Bill Hippen and Randy Hippen;

and many nieces and nephews.



Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Dale Roger Klunder;

and his grandparents.

Betty Ann Rodriguez, 71, passed away Monday (June 10, 1996)

at the Urbandale Health Care Center, Urbandale.

Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Ewing

Betty was born on Dec. 17, 1924, in Goldfield, the daughter

of George ``Dewey'' and Mary Miller Beisell.  She attended country

school in Goldfield.  On June 27, 1942, she was united in marriage

with Alfonso S. Rodriguez in Bethany, Mo.  To this union was

born two children, Al S. Jr., and Dew Ann.  Betty worked as a

secretary for over 25 years at the veterinary clinic in Goldfield,

first for Dr. F.H. Kelly, and then for Dr. Jack Stoakes.  She

also was a dog groomer, her specialty being poodles, running

this business until her retirement in 1985.  Betty and Al spent

their winters in Arizona and their summers in Iowa.  She was

an avid golfer, bingo player and card player.  She was also a

barbershop music enthusiast.  Betty was a member of the United

Methodist Church in Goldfield, the Legion Auxiliary and the Oakridge

Golf and Country Club.  Her pride and joy  next to winning a

big pot at bingo, beating Al Sr. at a game of cards, or listening

to some good barbershop music  were her four grandchildren, Rochelle,

Kristin, Chad and Scott.  They were the love of her life.  She

was so proud of all their accomplishments.  They will miss her

love and constant support.



Betty is survived by her husband, Al S. Sr.; her daughter, Dew

Ann Elkin and her husband, Ronald, of Tulsa, Okla.; her son,

Al S. Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Belmond; four grandchildren;

and two brothers, Richard Beisell and his wife, Beulah, of Mesa,

Ariz., and Duane Beisell and his wife, Bev, of Eagle Grove.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

John Gatchel, 79, of Garner, died Wednesday (June 12, 1996)

at his home in Garner.

John Cecil Gatchel, the son of John T. and Ivy May (Thorne)

Gatchel, was born Dec. 4, 1916, on a farm near Britt.  He attended

school at Britt.  In the spring of 1933, the family moved east

of Garner and continued farming.  After graduating from Garner

High School in 1937, he farmed with his father.  On May 4, 1941,

he married Pearl D. Jorgensen at the Little Brown Church at Nashua.

They farmed east of Garner until 1972, when he began working

for the Farmer's Cooperative Society.  After retiring in 1982,

he enjoyed ``stopping in'' and visiting at the co-op.  John enjoyed

reading, horses, nature programs on TV and visiting with family

and friends.



He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the Men's

Breakfast Club.



He is survived by his wife, Pearl Gatchel of Garner; three children,

Gloria Barney and special friend, David Strasburg of Phoenix,

Ariz.; Karen Baack of Oskaloosa, and Roger Gatchel and his wife,

Barbara, of Lakeville, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Debbie Oswald,

Kristine Barney, Lance Barney, Scott Botten, Laura Botten, Kimberly

Johnson, Amber Gatchel and Jill Gatchel; 10 great-grandchildren;

his sisters and brother, Doris Claude of Garner; James Gatchel

and his wife, Kathryn of Garner, and Emma Lou Stayner and her

husband, Lynn, of Hampton; sisters-in-law, Robertine Gatchel

of Garner, and Rosemary Tannahill and her husband, Gene of Fertile;

and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Eric John Botten;

his father, John T. Gatchel, Feb. 14, 1951; his mother, Ivy Gatchel,

Charlotte was born Aug. 24, 1910, in Des Moines, the daughter

She graduated from East High School in Des  Moines in 1928.



Charlotte married James P. Hansen Jr. on July 7, 1933, in Eldora.



They then moved to a farm northwest of Clear Lake where they

lived until moving into Clear Lake in 1973.



She was a professional artist before her marriage and continued

to teach art, sell sketches and paintings.



She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader.



She was a member of Clear Lake Women's Club, Lakeview Club,

Merriment Club and Park Chapter #35 of Order of Eastern Star,

Clear Lake.



Charlotte is survived by her husband, James P. Hansen Jr., of

Mason City; two sons, William David Hansen and his wife, Patricia,

of Clear Lake, and Phillip Russell Hansen and his wife, Deborah,

of Collins; two grandchildren, Dawn Renee Hansen, of Long Island,

N.Y., and Michael Eric Hansen of Ames.



She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bob,

Charles, and John and six sisters, Kathryn, Frances, Helen, Delia,

She married George E. Lund on Feb. 3, 1946, in Mason City.



Marion worked for Bell Telephone Company in Mason City and was

bookkeeper at HyVee West for 18 years from 1969 to 1987.



She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, church circle,

served as a Deacon, Wa Tan Ye Club and volunteered at Hospice

of North Iowa and the American Red Cross.



Marion enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.



Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Niver and her husband,

Richard, of Mason City, and Linda Vigars and her husband, James,

of Chariton; two sons, Lyell Lund and his wife, Cynthia, of Mason

City, and David Lund and his wife, Nancy, of Mason City; 10

grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Myrtle Schenck

and her husband, Harold, of Winnebago, Ill.; and one brother,

James Swigart and his wife, Delores, of Winnebago, Ill.
