Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo Center.



Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Winter

Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Gary Bergman of First

Baptist Church, Buffalo Center, officiating.  Burial will be

in Grand Meadow Cemetery, Grand Meadow, Minn.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral

home.



Talena Rhubee was born June 7, 1909 ,in Ackley.



Survivors include three sisters, Martha Bell of Manly, Josephine

Rippentrop of Rockford and Janet Oliver of Mason City.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister

and five brothers.

will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Violette Eileen Nasby Eppard was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Cedar

Falls.



Survivors include her husband, Clarence ``Clancy'' Eppard of

Charles City; one daughter, Sharon Oswalt of Coon Rapids, Minn.;

one son, Richard Eppard of Lennox, S.D.; and four grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Lawrence M. Weber was born Sept. 18, 1903, in Stacyville.

Chien, Wis.; Jo Rodewald, Salem, Ore.; Linda Stultz and Leona

Milton, both of Osage; and two brothers, Clem Weber of Bothell,

Wash., and Peter Weber of Hayward, Calif.



He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four

three sisters, Ardeen Nelson of Grants Pass, Ore., Elgena  Bunkofske

and Bonnie Miller, both of Algona; and three grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; and one brother.

Haydn E. Jones, 67, of Belmond, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 1996)

at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday

at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Currier

and Deacon Nick Schmit, officiating.  Burial will be in the St.

Francis Cemetery,  with military rites conducted by the Belmond

American Legion and VFW.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Tenold

Funeral Home, with a rosary at 2:30 p.m. by the Rosary Society

and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a 7 p.m. Scripture

service, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m.



Haydn Edward Jones, the son of John P. and Grace T. (Allen)

Jones, was born May 22, 1928, in Belmond.



He graduated from Belmond High School and received his Civil

Engineering degree from Iowa State University.



He served in the 444th Engineer Corp in Germany from 1951-1953.



He was united in marriage to Dorothy Kathleen Hocraffer on Dec.

29, 1955, in Mason City.  To this union three children were born.



Haydn was employed at Rowat & Murray Engineering of Belmond

during high school summers and after pursuing his degree, was

a full-time employee in 1956.  In February of 1959, he started

as Assistant Wright County Engineer and was appointed Wright

County Engineer in December of 1966, and served until his retirement

in February 1994, after serving 35 years.



Haydn was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church in

Belmond, member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8110, member

of the National Association of County Engineers, American Legion

Post 35 for 42 years, IPERS Improvement Association, and served

his church by being on the Parish Council, Lay Minister, lector

and usher.



In 1991 he was given a Service Award by Gov. Terry Branstad.



He is survived by a daughter, Jan Ellen Jones of Mason City;

sons, Brian and Kevin Jones of Minneapolis, Minn.; sisters, Carolyn

Summers and her husband, Robert, of Belmond; Monica Kohmetschier

and her husband, John, of Lansing, Mich.; Colleen Flanagan and

her husband, Alan, of Cedar Rapids; and Barbara Rogers of Ames.



He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, on

Feb. 5, 1996; sister, Mary; and brothers, Tony and Larry.

1996) at the Palo Alto County Hospital.

Thomas of the United Methodist Church of Fenton officiating.

Burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery,

Wesley.



Memorials may be designated to the Whittemore Fire and Rescue

Unit or the Whittemore Little League in her memory.



Zella O. Bergeson was born Nov. 2, 1907, in Kellogg.



Survivors include two daughters, Janet Champney of Whittemore,

and Shirley Torpin of Placentia, Calif.; six grandchildren; and

nine great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers

and five sisters.

Dr. Walter N. Hanson

Walter N. Hanson, M.D., Capt. USNR-Retired, 81, of Naples, Fla.,

died Friday (Feb. 16, 1996) in Naples.

Chapel, Naples, Fla,. is in charge of arrangements.



Dr. Walter N. Hanson was born Feb. 20, 1914, to Oliver and Edla

(Unger) Hanson in Grand Forks, N.D.



He was a graduate of the University of North Dakota and Medical

School at University of North Dakota. He was a graduate of Temple

University, Philadelphia, Pa.



He practiced medicine  (OB/GYN) with the United States Navy

for 14 years and with Park Clinic in Mason City for 25 years,

retiring to the Twin Cities in 1979.



He was a golfer, a fisherman and a collector of puns.



He was a lover of beauty, finding it in music and in nature,

creating it with his wood carving, needlework, furniture-making

and in his orchid greenhouse.



He married his beautiful Helen in 1937. Together they raised

three daughters and cherished seven grandchildren; and three

great-grandchildren. He is forever a part of each of us.



He is survived by his wife, Helen Hanson of Edina, Minn.; Mari

and Charles Duke of Grinnell; Linda and Daniel Groff of Golden

Valley, Minn.; Susan and Charles Grady, and their children, Joseph

and Nicholas of Eden Prairie, Minn.; Andrew and Lisa Morgan,

and their children, Zachary and Jasper of St. Paul, Minn.; Jeremy

and Kyna Duke and their son, Eli, of Columbia, Mo., Abigail Duke

of Montpelier, Vt., Peter Morgan of Boulder, Colo.,  and Emily

Groff of Golden Valley, Minn.; one sister, Adelaide Maier of

Denver, Colo.; and one brother, Odin Hanson of Silver Springs,

Md.



He was preceded in death by his parents and six half brothers

and half sisters.

Elaine H. Ennis, 77, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday

(Feb. 15, 1996) in Tampa, Fla.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St.

Mark Lutheran Church, Dunedin, Fla. The body will be cremated

and burial will be at a later date.



Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Curlew

Hills Funeral Home, Palm Harbor, Fla.



She was born in Osage where she attended and graduated from

Osage High School. She worked for her father in his meat market,

as a bookkeeper for the Osage Cooperative Creamery and as an

accountant and auditor for Frank Enbusk before becoming a police

woman for 21 years for the Mason City Police Department.



She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mason City,

and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Dunedin, Fla. She moved

to Florida with her husband, Harold J.Ennis, in 1971.



She is survived by two stepsons, Roger D.Ennis and his wife,

Beverly Ennis, and Jay Ennis and his wife, Joyce, all of Mason

City; one stepdaughter, Kathleen Lorz of Fargo, N.D.; one sister,

Anita G. Nelson of Mason City; eight stepgrandchildren; and 11

stepgreatgrandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1986; an

infant daughter, Patricia Ann; her parents; and three brothers

grandchildren; one sister, Tunice Clay of Newport, Penn.; and

Survivors include his wife, Carmen Teigen of Lake Mills; four

Minn., Donna Hanson of Forest City and Cheryl Sorbo of Clear

Lake; nine grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; two sisters,

Alpha Hanson of Lake Mills and Viola Andrews of St. Petersburg,

Fla.; and one brother, Leonard Teigen of Albert Lea, Minn.



He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one

Arnold Paul DeVries

Funeral services for Arnold Paul DeVries, 74, of 507 N. First

St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel

with services conducted by the Rev. Galen Smith of the First

Presbyterian Church.  Burial will be in the Bethel Reformed Cemetery,

Kesley.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today and will continue

from 9 a.m. until time of services at the chapel on Tuesday.



Arnold Paul DeVries was born Nov. 30, 1921 in Kesley, a son

of George and Helene (Hintzen) DeVries, and died Friday (Feb.

16, 1996) at his home in Greene of cancer.



He received his education in the Kesley Schools and graduated

from Aplington High School in 1939.  As a young man he worked

at his father's hardware store and later attended the University

of Iowa.  During this time he became fascinated with nature and

primitive man and his existence.  At the start of World War II

he moved to California where he remained for a short time, returning

to Chicago where he was employed at an aircraft plant.  While

in Chicago he did extensive research in his pursued field.  Toward

the end of the war he returned to California to pursue his interests

in writing and during that time he supplemented his income as

a bus driver for the City of Los Angeles, driving the famed route

of Hollywood and Vine.



In 1952 he published his first book entitled, ``Primitive Man

and His Foods''.  During this time he acquired his own publishing

company, Chandler Book Company.  In the next several years other

books were published which included ``Elixir of LIfe'', ``Health

from the Soil'', and ``Dangers in Modern Food''.



On Oct. 16, 1959 he was united in marriage to Dorice E. Shemtob

in Beverly Hills.  They made their home in the Los Angeles area

until returning to Iowa in 1969 when they purchased their home

in Greene.  Mrs. DeVries died on June 23, 1981.  On July 16,

1986 he was united in marriage to Mary K. Parmely at the Little

Brown Church at Nashua.  The marriage ended in 1993.



Arnold was baptized on June 24, 1923 at the Presbyterian Church

in Kesley.  Throughout his life he explored the various aspects

of his faith and following his marriage to Dorice they became

associated with the Universal Church of the Master where they

were both ordained as ministers of that faith.



He will be remembered as an environmentalist and naturalist

who strived to educate others and make them aware of their natural

environment and what it has to offer them in health and vitality.



Survivors include his companion, Mary Parmely of Greene; three

daughters, Marsha DeVries Harrington of Waterloo, Jamie DeVries

and Michelle DeVries, both of Conrad; two grandchildren, Dustin

and Chace; and one sister, Lenore Knutson of Hobart, Ind.



He was preceded in death by his first wife; two children in

infancy; parents; one brother, George DeVries Jr. in 1961; and

one sister, Esther Casjens in 1979.

to the Arnold DeVries Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Kenneth E. Shreve, 86, died Sunday (Feb. 18, 1996) at the Floyd

County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St.

Peter's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Perry Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Reid's Funeral

Chapel.  There will be a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Township, Butler County.



Survivors include his wife, Velma of Greene; one daughter, Beverly

Menk of New Brighton, Minn.; five grandchildren; three great-

grandchildren; and one brother, William Shreve of Bristow.



He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Ina Mae (Burgess) Halfpop, the daughter of Thomas R. and Mabel

(Smith) Burgess, was born Sept. 1, 1912 in Goodell.  She attended

school in Goodell.  She was united in marriage to Paul Halfpop

on April 26, 1931 in Garner.  They resided in the Goodell area

all of their married life.  She was a former member of the United

Brethern Church in Goodell, and has been a long time member of

the United Methodist Church in Goodell.  She was a member of

the Ladies Aid of the church, and Prairie Quilters.  She was

a very devoted mother and grandmother.



Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Barkema and her husband,

Dick, Jr. of Goodell; one son, Bernard Halfpop and his wife,

Harriett of Fairmont, Minn.; five grandchildren, Barbara Schaefer,

Keith Barkema, Dick Barkema, Mark Barkema, and Paul Halfpop;

eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Barkema of Belmond;

and one brother, Joe Burgess of Goodell.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, one brother,

one sister, and two great-grandchildren.

Paul Edward Miller, 75, of 120 26th St. S.W., died Saturday

afternoon (Feb. 17, 1996) at his home of natural causes.



Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fullerton Patterson

James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E.  Officiating will be

the Rev. Fred Lewis of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.

Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.



The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the

funeral chapel.  Visitation will continue after noon on Tuesday.

Paul was born in Butler County on Dec. 7, 1920 to Floyd and

Kate (Groniga) Miller.  He attended school at the Little Yellow

School House in Butler County.  He served his country in the

Army and was a survivor of the ``Battle of the Bulge''.  He later

was honorably discharged.  He was united in marriage to Helen

A. Morgan on Sept. 15, 1949 in Harrison, Ark.  He was employed

in the sweet pickle department of Armour Meat Packing for 26

years.  He retired in 1975 due to health problems.  Before his

health declined he enjoyed playing pool and bingo at the Mason

City Senior Citizens Center.  He was a former member of the American

Legion.  He also enjoyed yard work and playing with his chow-lab

mix dog.



Paul will be sadly missed by his wife of 46 years, Helen; three

daughters, Donna Marie Miller of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Dean (Deborah)

Meyer of Davenport, and Diane G. Miller of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law,

the former Mrs. David (Donna Mae) Miller of Clear Lake; one brother,

Robert and his wife, Virginia Miller of Fremont, Mich.; four

grandchildren, Paula and Mike Meyer of Davenport, and Doug and

Devan Miller of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.



Paul will join those who preceded him in death, his parents;

three sons, David, Douglas, and an infant son; his sister, Florence

Hobson Eilers; and one brother, Lester Miller.

Anne was born on March 11, 1913 in Mason City to William and

Stancha (Nickoliva) Thomas.  She graduated with honor degrees

from Mason City High School in 1931.  While she attended school

she was employed at Thomas Grocery.  Following high school she

worked as a dental assistant and then attended business school

for two years in Des Moines.  She was united in marriage to Francis

A. Hegel on Aug. 30, 1958 at Holy Family Catholic Church by Mnsgn.

Breen.  She was employed at State Brand Creameries for 10 years,

and then in the billing department at International Harvestor

Co. for 16 years, working both in Mason City and Des Moines.

She also was employed at Allis Chalmers for five years.  She

was the treasurer at the North Iowa Library Extension for 16

years and then as a bookkeeper and secretary for The Professional

Car Cleaning Experts for seven years, which she retired from

in 1986.  Anne was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and

a former member of the Ladies of the Elks.  During her younger

years she loved to dance, ice and roller skate, and cook.  During

her life she was a devout reader, and enjoyed mathematics and

was known to read 16 to 18 books a month especially enjoying

Romance novels.  She was very attentive to her poodle ``JoJo''

who died recently, and tending her roses during the summer months.



Anne is survived by her constant companion and friend, Estele

Warren of Mason City.



She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Thomas;

and one brother who died in Bulgaria; and her husband, Francis

in 1978.

Katharine Jane Schneider was born Feb. 18, 1924, at Fairmont,

Minn., the daughter of Wendell and Sidonia (Exner) Wells. Jane

was united in marriage to Cletus Schneider on Oct. 28,  1950,

at Holy Family Church in Mason City, Iowa. Jane lived most of

her life in the Mason City area, graduating from St. Joseph's

High School in June 1941. She was an assistant clerk of Selective

Service Board 1 from November 1941 to 1947. From there she worked

at the Army Recruiting Main Station as a secretary, and then

the Veterans Administration until they closed their Mason City

offices and moved to Des Moines, Iowa. She also worked at Iowa

Mutual Hardware Insurance Company. She enjoyed sewing for friends

and herself, as well as doing oil paintings and gardening.



She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.



Survivors include her husband, Cletus Schneider, Mason City;

one sister, Gay Schneider and her husband, Carl, Manly; three

brothers, Douglas Wells and his wife, Elsie, St. Paul, Minn.;

Thomas Wells and his wife, Joyce, Leavenworth, Kan., and Mark

Wells and his wife, Edith, Mason City; her father, Wendell A.

Wells, Good Shepherd Healthcare Center, Mason City; two sisters-in-law,

Corrinne Fenelon, Waterloo, and Catherine Weir and her husband,

Mrs. Silby was born May 14, 1915, at Buffalo, N.Y., a daughter

She married Bernard Silby on April 15, 1944, in the chapel at

Camp Le Jeune, Hanover County, Wilmington, N.C. They celebrated

their 50th wedding anniversary on April 15, 1994.



She was employed in Sitka, Alaska, as a secretary and bookkeeper

during world War II. She later worked at the Federal Reserve

Bank, Chicago, Ill., while her husband, Bernard, attended Northern

Illinois College of Optometry.



Rita was active in many volunteer services during World War

II, Emergency Medical Corps, Red Cross First Aid, U.S. Air Force

volunteer as a platter in U.S. Aircraft Warning Systems, Disaster

Committee, USO Hostess and Civilian Defense Corps.



She was also involved with the following organizations, Holy

Family Catholic Church; Catholic Daughters of the Americas; a

Cub Scout den mother at Washington and Jefferson Elementary schools;

North Central Iowa Genealogical Society; Western New York Genealogical

Society; Rake and Hoe Garden Club; Mason City County Club; VFW

auxiliary; American Legion auxiliary; St. Theresa's Circle of

Holy Family Guild; Women's Club; and Ladies Catholic Benevolent

Society of Cheektowaga, N.Y.



Rita and Bernard moved to Mason City in March of 1954, having

previously resided at Charles City; Denver, Colo.; Colorado Springs,

Colo.; and Windsor Heights, Iowa. During World War II, they lived

at Kechikan, Alaska, and Sitka, Alaska, then Chicago, before

moving to Charles City in 1948.



Rita was a loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother, enjoying

sewing, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and

friends.



Survivors include her husband, Dr. Bernard Silby of Mason City;

two sons, Donald Wayne Silby of Washington, D.C., and Gary Silby

of Mason City; one daughter, Jane Helgeson and her husband, Bob,

of Mason City; three granddaughters, Kelli and Lori Schneider

of Mason City; and Georgina Silby of Wales, Great Britain; one

brother, Richard C. Grad of Buffalo, N.Y.; three sisters, Marie

Harold was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Mason City, the son of Ralph

E. and Gertrude A. (Daly) Currier.



He graduated from Mason City High School in 1939. He farmed

in the Mason City and Clear Lake area.



On Feb. 27, 1943, he married Joy Coe in Mason City. She preceded

him in death on Oct. 6, 1969.



He farmed near Clear Lake from 1950 to 1973, when he moved

to Ventura. In 1972, he began work with the Clear Lake Farmers

Cooperative. He retired from the business in 1984.



On Dec. 7, 1974, he married Leona Susi Graham in Clear Lake.



His hobbies included woodworking, crafts, playing cards, gardening,

reading, fishing and spending winters in Texas since 1978.



Harold enjoyed being around people and was a friend to all

who met him.



He was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church.



He is survived by his wife, Leona Currier of Ventura; three

children, Sandy Namanny of Valley Springs, S.D.; Denny Currier

and his wife, Bev, of Clear Lake; and Bren Quincey of Valley

Springs, S.D.; stepdaughter, Linda Graham of Forest City; seven

grandchildren, Pam Stewart and her husband, Jim; Troy Namanny,

Jennifer Currier, Jason Currier, Trevor Quincey, Misty Quincey

and Marissa Olson; and one stepgrandchild, Patrick Graham; two

great-grandchildren, Karl Keuser and Jymmi Joy Stewart; and a

sister, Catherine Burke and her husband, Mike, of Sioux Falls,

S.D.

Herbert Frank Schwanke was born Jan. 23, 1903, in Stillwater,

Minn., the son of Augusta Schuman. He was raised by an aunt and

uncle in his early years.



He served four years in the Minnesota National Guard at Fort

Snelling and was the company bugler during that time.



While working in the shoe factory in Stillwater, Minn., he met

Lillian Hintz and they were married on Nov. 7, 1925, in St. Paul,

Minn. They later moved to Mason City after  living in Milwaukee

in 1927.



Herb went to work for Frank Bull where he learned the painting

and decorating trade.



Later he went into business for himself in Mason City, painting

and decorating many of the finer homes in Mason City.



He also went on the road, painting filling stations for Standard

Oil Company.



At the age of 78, he completely painted and decorated his daughter's

new home. Herb also built the last three homes  that he and Lillian

lived in.



During the 1940s, Herb and Lillian took care of foster children

for the Lutheran Welfare. They thoroughly enjoyed this venture

and did that for several years.



Herb enjoyed gardening, bird watching, feeding squirrels and

planting trees.



Herb was able to stay in his own home after Lillian died until

June of 1993, when he moved to the IOOF Home.



Herb was a member of our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where he

served on several church boards. He was a past member of the

Painting & Decorating Contractors of America and a Boy Scout

leader.



He is survived by one daughter, Mary Butcher and her husband,

Merlyn, of Rockwell; one son, Allan Schwanke and his wife, Marilyn,

of Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter-in-law, Mary Anne White of

Colorado Springs, Colo.; three granddaughters, Pam Schwanke and

her fiancee, Jim Hardee, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Cristy Volk and

her husband, Mike, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Ann Blaha and her

husband, Randy, of North Sioux City; three grandsons, Jeff Butcher

and his wife, Carlene, of Belmond; Gregg Butcher of Denver, Colo.,

and John Schwanke and his wife, Stacey, of Clermont, Fla.; four

great-grandsons, Phillip, Brandon and Eric Butcher, of Belmond;

and Tim Schwanke of Clermont, Fla.; plus numerous other relatives

and friends in Stillwater, Minn., and the Mason City area.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in December of

1991; and one son, Roger, in April of 1992; plus several relatives

in Minnesota.

Margaret Hulsing

ROCKWELL



Margaret Hulsing, 90, of 126 Westview Drive, Rockwell, died

Saturday (Feb. 17, 1996) at Rockwell Community Nursing Home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Grace

Baptist Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Bruce Rulapaugh officiating.



Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Meservey Cemetery,

Meservey.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Grarup

Funeral Home, Sheffield.



Margaret Hulsing was born on Oct. 21, 1905, in Meservey, the

daughter of George and Tena (Wiemann) Gerdes.



She attended school in the Meservey area.



On Feb. 8, 1926, she was united in marriage to Carl Hulsing

Sr. in the First Reformed Church of Meservey.



They made their home farming in the North Iowa area until starting

the family farmsted outside of Rockwell in 1944. In 1968, she

and her husband retired and moved into Rockwell.



She enjoyed doing crochet work making many items for her family

and friends.



She was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Sheffield, along

with its Women's Missionary Fellowship, White Cross Society and

the Busy Bees. She also belonged to the Birthday Club and the

Serving Club of Rockwell.



She is survived by one daughter, Lennetta Frey and her husband,

Carl, of Sheffield; four sons, Carl Hulsing of Rockwell; Myron

and his wife, Shirley, of Rockwell; Don and his wife, Virginia,

of Rockwell, and Vern and his wife, Bev, of Mason City; 16

grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.



She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter,

six sisters and five brothers.

Kenneth E. Shreve

GREENE 



Funeral services for Kenneth E. Shreve, 86, of 502 West Traer,

Apt. 4, Greene, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's

Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Perry Brown officiating. Burial

will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral

Chapel,  where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

There will be a public Scripture service at 8 p.m.



Kenneth Earl Shreve was born Jan. 2, 1910, in rural Coldwater

Township, Butler County, a son of William H. and Johannah (Rossen)

Shreve, and died Sunday (Feb. 18, 1996) at the Floyd County Memorial

Hospital in Charles City of a heart attack.



He received his education in the rural Coldwater No. 9 School

and as a young man worked for farmers in the rural Bristow area.

He later operated a portable feed grinder for Carl Schrage of

Bristow.



He was united in marriage to Velma Mardine Smith on June 6,

1934, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Waverly. They first made their

home in Bristow, where they remained until Schrage sold his grinder

business, and then moved to Greene where he was engaged in his

own trucking business until 1941.



He farmed in the Greene area until 1954 when he then became

employed by the Farmers Cooperative Feed Mill and also did various

carpentry work. In 1966, they moved to Charles City, where they

purchased the Riverview Motel, which they operated until 1974,

at which time they retired and returned to Greene.



Following retirement, he enjoyed yard work and doing various

remodeling work on their home.



In recent years, Kenneth had been afflicted with Parkinson's

Disease, but despite his handicap, made the best of a bad situation.

His humor was his greatest attribute. As a pastime, he enjoyed

country music and polka music.



Kenneth was baptized and confirmed a member of St. Peter's Lutheran

Church in Greene on April 12, 1936, and served on the church

council, was secretary of the church congregation and a member

of the Lutheran Brotherhood.



Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Velma Shreve

of Greene; one daughter, Beverly and her husband, Thomas Menk

of New Brighton, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jill and her husband,

Barry Froehlich of Circle Pines, Minn.; Roger and his wife, Beth

Menk of St. Paul, Minn.; Bryce and his wife, Colette Menk of

Gem Lake, Minn.; Sara and her husband, Scott Chartier, and John

Menk, all of New Brighton, Minn.; three great-grandchildren,

Hallie Froehlich of Circle Pines, Minn., Spencer and Colton Menk

of St. Paul, Minn.;  one brother, William and his wife, Harmina

Shreve of Bristow; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Francis

and Floyd Shreve.



Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials

to the Kenneth Shreve Memorial Fund in care of the family.
