as an educator, teaching sixth grade at Lincoln Elementary School
in Charles City for 16 years. She was a member of the First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Charles City, where
she had been a deaconess and member of the Friendship Circle.
She also served several offices in the church. Although a voracious
reader, macular degeneration limited her reading activity. She
then listened to books on tape, supplied by the Iowa Commission
For The Blind. She was known to enjoy a ``good'' story and a
bargain, and, according to her husband, was a perfect wife for
53 years.
Her love of teaching and children was tightly woven into her
life. She continued to receive letters from former students
thanking her for her efforts. Some of the students became teachers
in hope of emulating her. She was a member of the ISEA and the
NEA, and received the Outstanding Young Educator of the Year
Award from the Charles City Jaycees.
Living family members include her husband, Tom, of Charles City;
four children, John Rich and his wife, Mickie, of Dallas, Texas,
Jane Biggers of Charles City, David Rich and his wife, Vicky.
of Algona, and Susan Rich of Apple Valley, Minn.; one sister,
Sarah Momberger of Percy, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Alison Crouch,
