Ruby Henrietta Grell

GARNER 



     Services for Ruby Grell, 84, of Garner, who died Thursday (Sept.

21, 1995) at the Dakota Care Center in Vermillion, S.D., will

be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, northeast

of Garner, with the Rev. Carl R. Hedberg officiating. Burial

will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.



Visitation will be from 4 to  8 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral

Chapel, Garner.



Ruby Henrietta Grell, the daughter of Henry Hagerud and Ruth Sande

Hagerud was born May 11, 1911, at Glenville, Minn.  She was baptized

and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Glenville.



After attending the rural schools of Freeborn County, she worked

in Mason City.



In 1936, she was married to George W. Winfield in Mason City

where they made their home.



Three daughters were born to this marriage: Ardella, Dolores

and Virginia.



On June 7, 1945, she was married to Raymond C. Grell at Mason

City. They farmed east of Garner until Ray's death in 1970. A

son, Stanley was born to this union.



Ruby continued to live in the North Iowa area until January

of 1994, when she moved to the Dakota Care Center in Vermillion,

S.D.



For many years, she worked as a live-in companion and care-giver

for the elderly in the North Iowa area.



Ruby had a life-long love of dancing.



She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Ladies

Aid, the Sons of Norway and various Senior Citizen organizations.



She is survived by her four children, Ardella Enoch and her

husband, Duard, of Sun City West, Ariz.; Dolores Boehnke and

her husband, Carrol, of Garner; Virginia Monroe and her husband,

Donald, of Vermillion, S.D.; and Stanley Grell and his fiance,

Karmen, of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;

and a sister, Ordella Venem of Mountlake Terrace, Wash.



She was preceded in death by first husband, George W. Winfield;

her second husband, Raymond C. Grell; her parents; three sisters,

Myrtle Wadding, Hazel Beeson and Ella Gordon; and a brother 

Lloyd Hagerud.

Calvin J. Peterson

FOREST CITY 



     Calvin J. Peterson, 71, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Sept.

19, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the United

Methodist Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.



There will be no visitation.  Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505

N. Clark St., Forest City, is in charge of the arrangements.



Calvin J. Peterson was born Nov. 15, 1923, near Kanawha.



Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Peterson, Forest City; one

daughter, Nancy Mackin, Hiawatha; three sisters, Edna Eden, 

Verda Stratton and RuBee Schroeder, all of Britt; and three brothers,

Lewis Peterson, Milwaukee, Wis.; Clair Peterson, Britt, and 

Raymond Lyle Peterson, Hot Springs, Ark.



He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Ramona `Mona' M. Thompson

Ramona `Mona' M. Haselroth

AUSTIN, Minn. 



     Ramona ``Mona'' M. Thompson, 65, of 812 Ninth Ave. S.W., died

Wednesday (Sept. 20, 1995) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's

Lutheran Church with the Rev. Don Deines officiating.  Interment

will be at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa.



Friends may call at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, 209 Second Ave.

N.W., Austin, on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior

to services at the church on Monday.



Ramona ``Mona'' M. Thompson was born Dec. 25, 1929, to William Haselroth

and Leona Haselroth (nee) Gray.  She graduated from high school in 1948 

in Buffalo Center, Iowa.  Mona married Edwin Thompson on May 27, 1948, 

in Buffalo Center, Iowa.  She was an avid CBer and she enjoyed playing 

darts at Righty's.  She was known as ``Pathfinder'' (CB handle) and was 

past president of the CB Club.

 

She enjoyed her camping ventures with her CBer friends of the

original Gopher/Hawkeye CB Club.  ``Hitch Hiker'' (Edwin's handle)

and ``Pathfinder'' enjoyed their special times with fellow CBers

and dearest friends, Bud and Wanda, Kate and Paul, Dick and Judy

and Marlys and Dodie.



Mona also enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Faribault.



Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Thompson and 

Angela Thompson of Lone Rock, Greg and MaryLou Thompson of Austin, 

Darryll ``Butch'' and Susan Thompson of Austin, Bruce and Connie Thompson

of Tacoma, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Ricardo Valenzuela 

of Austin, Nancy and Bobby Vender of Fayetteville, N.C.; 23 

grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, 

Jean Swenson of Burnsville, Minn., and Shirley and Jim James of 

Buffalo Center; and nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin Thompson,

in 1987; one son, Scott Thompson; and one brother, 

William Jr. Haselroth

Robert Dean Molencamp

GARNER 



     Robert Molencamp, 63, of Garner, died Thursday (Sept. 21, 1995)

at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo

Funeral Chapel, Garner, with the Rev. Robert Grossmann officiating.

Burial will be at a later dated in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason

City.



There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.



Robert Dean Molencamp was born May 1, 1932, at Dougherty.



Survivors include his wife, Georgia Molencamp of Garner; four

children, Mark Steven Molencamp of Garner, Mickey Joe Molencamp

of Garner, Deon Marie Molencamp of Spanaway, Wash., and 

Jeffrey Dean Molencamp of Garner; five grandchildren; one 

great-grandchild; his mother, Hilda Uben of Ventura; seven 

brothers and sisters, Thelma Ziesman of Sheffield, Carol Buck of 

Clear Lake, Russell Molencamp of Minnesota, LeRoy Molencamp of 

Minnesota, Sharon Quintus of Ventura, Ron Molencamp of Des Moines, 

and Larry Dennis Molencamp of Clear  Lake.



He was preceded in death by his father, one sister and an infant

brother.

Helen G. McNulty

Helen G. (nee) Luick

BELMOND 



     Helen G. McNulty, 84, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 1995) at the

Belmond Health Care Center.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday

at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Currier

and deacon Nick Schmidt officiating.  Burial will be in St. Francis

Cemetery.



There will be a 2:30 p.m. Rosary on Tuesday by the Rosary Society

and Catholic Daughters of America, and a 7 p.m. scripture service

at the Tenold Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 2 to

9 p.m. Tuesday and will continue one hour prior to services at

the church on Wednesday.



Helen G. (Luick) McNulty, the daughter of Ernest Luick and 

Grace (nee) Glidden Luick was born Jan. 17, 1911, in Belmond.  

She attended the Belmond schools and graduated in 1929.  She attended 

Coe College and the University of Minnesota.  She worked as an X-ray 

and laboratory technician for the state of Arizona as a mobile health 

associate traveling the entire state.  In 1937 she accepted a position

as a technician at the University Hospital in Everett, Wash.,

and worked there until 1940 when she returned to Belmond.



She was united in marriage to Donald L. McNulty on May 29, 1940.

They farmed north of Belmond until 1982 when they moved to Belmond.



Helen was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Rosary Society,

Catholic Daughters of America, Kensington Club, and the Progress

Club.



She is survived by a brother, Bill Luick and his wife, June

of Webster City; sisters-in-law, Marion McNulty of St. Paul,

Minn., Madonna Castle of Tucson, Ariz., and Patricia Rowe and

her husband, Dr. C.J. of St. Paul, Minn.; brother-in-law, 

Gerald McNulty and his wife, Madonna of Belmond; several nieces and

nephews and grand nieces and nephews.



She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don, and

her brother, Howard.

Bessie Hilferty

LEDYARD  



     Bessie Hilferty, 87, of Ledyard, died Friday (Sept. 22, 1995)

at Fairmont Hospital, Fairmont, Minn.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sacred

Heart Catholic Church, Ledyard, with the Rev. John Thomas officiating.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ledyard.



Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-

Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.



Bessie Hilferty was born July 27, 1908, in Ledyard.



Survivors include several relatives.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

Maurice P. Peterson

BRITT 



     Maurice P. Peterson, 93, of Clear Lake, formerly of Britt,

died Friday (Sept. 22, 1995) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.



Funeral services will held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Britt

Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Bill Culbertsun officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. at  Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City.



Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Petersen Lund

Funeral Home, Forest City.



Maurice P. Peterson was born on a farm in High Lake Township

near Wallingford, on Jan. 8, 1902, the son of Peter P. Peterson 

and Josephine (nee) Berdahl Peterson.



He received his education at Spring Grove School and later moved

with his parents to Wallingford where he continued his schooling.

He grew up working on the farm and learning from his father who

was also a blacksmith. He also helped his father bore wells.



In the late 1920s he moved with his brother to a farm southwest

of Forest City and continued farming on several different farms

in that area.



On March 16, 1938, he was united in marriage to Letha Meyer.



The couple farmed southwest of Hayfield for a time and later

moved southwest of that place where he continued farming until

his retirement in 1974 when he moved to Britt.



He was a member of the Britt Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed

repairing machinery, raising livestock and in later years began

woodworking.



In September of 1991, he moved to the Oakwood Care Center in

Clear Lake.



He is survived by his sons, and their wives, 

Allan and Mary Louise Peterson of Mason City, and 

Gaylon and Margaret Peterson of El Paso, Texas; one brother, 

Curtis Peterson; two sisters, Judith Peterson and 

Margaret Peterson, all of Forest City; two sisters-in-law,

Mary Peterson of Forest City and Lila Meyer of Garner; and several

nieces and nephews.



Maurice was also very close to Gale and Beverly McNeese of

Britt and their children were like grandchildren to him.



Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Letha Peterson,

who died in 1967; and four brothers, Elmer Peterson, Eddie Peterson, 

Raymond Peterson and Earl Peterson.

Louis Donald Casper

BRITT 



     Louis Donald Casper, 86, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 1995) at Westview

Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United

Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating.  Burial

will be in Evergreen Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral

Chapel, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church

on Tuesday.



Louis Donald Casper was born Dec. 28, 1908 in Primrose, Neb.



Survivors include his wife, Helen Casper; four daughters, 

Connie Mattox of Huntsville, Ala., Mary Doughty of Cedar Rapids, Neb.,

Linda Thompson of Estherville, and Margaret Dewey of Nokomis,

Fla.; two sons, George Casper of Cabool, Mo., and Paul Casper

of Prairieville, La.; one sister, Violet Johnson of West Point,

Neb.; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister,

one son and one granddaughter.

Cletus `Shorty' Dorr

BANCROFT 



     Cletus `Shorty' Dorr, 80, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 1995) at

the Heritage Nursing Home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John

Catholic Church with the Rev. John Thomas officiating.  Burial

will be in St. John's Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-

Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, with rosaries at 3 and 7:45 p.m. and a 

prayer service at 7 p.m.



Cletus Robert Dorr was born Jan. 13, 1915 in St. Benedict.



Survivors include one daughter, Arliss Rahe of Bancroft; four

brothers, Herb Dorr of Osceola, Wis., Dennis Dorr of Simi, Calif.,

Francis Dorr of Sparks, Nev., and Ralph Dorr of Houston, Texas;

four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.



He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers

and four sisters.

     Pearl Molacek, 75, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 1995) at North

Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecelia

Catholic Church with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating.  Burial

will be in Calvary Cemetery.



Visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf

Funeral Home with a CD of A Rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer

service at 7:30 p.m.



Pearl Molacek was born Jan. 9, 1920 in Algona.



Survivors include two daughters, Connie Elbert of Burt, and

Julie Willenborg of Carroll; two sons, Tim Molacek of Algona,

and Larry Molacek of Missouri Valley; one sister, Maxine Wilson

of Emmetsburg; three brothers, Dennis Schumacher of Mallard,

Maurice Schumacher of and Dr. Richard Schumacher, both of Benicia,

Calif.; six grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister,

and one brother, and one sister and one brother in infancy.

Alice Jean Stricker

MASON CITY 



     Alice Jean Stricker, 65, of 698 17th St. S.E., died Saturday

(Sept. 23, 1995) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

                

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph

Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Jack Paisley

officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation was held at 4 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Scriptural prayer service

at 7 p.m.



Alice Jean Stricker was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Cerro Gordo

County, the daughter of William D. Esser and Lena M. (nee) Backer

Esser.



Alice grew up on a farm near Cartersville and graduated from

Rockwell High School.  She married Jack D. Stricker on Aug. 7,

1948, in Cartersville.



She worked 18 years as a seamstress for Mode O Day and then

worked five years at McDonalds, until retiring.  She loved spending

time with her family and she enjoyed playing cards, walking and

shopping.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.



Survivors include two daughters, Diana Hobbs and her husband,

Dennis, and Sandra Pals and her husband, Arlin, all of Mason

City; two sons, John Stricker and his wife, Wanda, of Orchard,

and Thomas Stricker and his wife, Cindy, of Mason City; 18 grandchildren,

Steven, Debra and Mindy Hobbs, Marcus and Matthew Tyler, Keith,

Aaron, Shawn, and Amy Pals, Tania, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Alicia

Stricker, Heather and Brad Allison, and Jacob, Heather and Alex

Stricker; five great-grandchildren, Cody Overland, Kayla and

Joshua Hobbs, Madalyn Tyler and Austin Pals; five sisters, Dorothy Ross 

and her husband, Clifford, of Greene; Leone Coonradt and

her husband, Roland, of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; Rose Wihlm and her

husband, Alphonse, of Roseville; Arlene Kirchhoff and her husband,

Clarence, of Rockwell, and Betty Larson and her husband, Wayne,

of Dougherty; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1988; her

parents; one sister in infancy, Marcella Esser; one brother,

Leo ``Bud'' Esser; and three half-brothers.

Donald Kramer

FOREST CITY  



     Donald Kramer, 53, of Forest City, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 1995)

at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the United

Methodist Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating.

There will be no burial.



The body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical School.



Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



Memorials may be given to the Hospice of North Iowa, American

Diabetes Association or the United Methodist Church.



Donald Kramer was born May 29, 1942, in Woden.



Survivors include two sisters, Donna Olson of Forest City, and

Sylvia DesJarlais of Sturgis, S.D.; one brother, Forrest Kramer

of Cedar Rapids.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one

sister.

Patricia A. Rasmusson

MASON CITY 



     Patricia A. Rasmusson, 62, of the Ashley Inn Motel, Lot #20,

died Saturday (Sept. 23, 1995) at  North Iowa Mercy Health Center

East.

     

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at  Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Ron Stein

of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St.

Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service today at

the funeral home.



Patricia was born March 17, 1933, in Mason City.



Survivors include her husband, Raymond Rasmusson of Mason City;

two daughters, Shelly Thomas Lybarger of Mason City and 

Brenda Crab Easley of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren; three 

great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maryjane Birkholz of Mason City.



She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one brother

and one sister.

     Herbert R. Eriksen, 68, of Dows, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 1995)

at Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First

Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James Lusher officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, with military rites conducted

by the Watson-Beach Post #523 of the Dows American Legion.



Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Elledge Funeral

Home.



Herbert R. Eriksen was born June 25, 1927, in Dows.



Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Bakker of Clarion and

Shari Osier of Des Moines; three sons, Kerry Eriksen and 

Paul Eriksen, both of Dows, and David Ericksen of Rowan; four 

grandchildren; one sister, Sonja Kniesly of Omaha, Neb., and 

one brother, Robert Eriksen of Dows.



He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Norman.

     Inga O. Woodbury, 98, of Corwith, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 1995)

in Fairfield Bay, Ark.

officiating. Inurnment will be in Corwith Cemetery.

Inga O. Woodbury was born Nov. 18, 1896, in Clark County, S.D.



Survivors include three sons, Wallace C. of Napa, Calif.; Wendell

W. of Alexandria, Va., and Maynard B. of Whispering Pines, N.C.;

11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

CHARLES CITY 



     Carmella DeNuci, 87, of Charles City, formerly of Nashwauk,

Minn., died Sunday (Sept. 24, 1995) at Floyd County Memorial

Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hauser

Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with Dennis Oberg officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nashwauk Cemetery, Nashwauk,

Minn.



Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until

time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.



Carmella Ann DeNuci was born June 11, 1908, at Nashwauk, Minn.



Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Scheidecker of Clarksville

and Leanne Faulkner of Mason City; four brothers, Frank, Antonio

and Joseph, all of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and Vito of Italy;

and one sister, Dora Fantin of Windsor, Ontario, Canada.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two granddaughters,

one brother and one sister.

David E. Starr

MASON CITY 



     David E. Starr, 44, of 924 11th St. N.E., died Sunday (Sept.

24, 1995) at Clear Lake.

     

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Major

Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev.

Peter Monkres of First Congregational United Church of Christ

officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and until time of

services Wednesday at the funeral home.



Memorials may be given to the David E. Starr Memorial Fund.



David E. Starr was born March 16, 1951, in Mason City, the son

of Elmer Starr and Esther (nee) Idema Starr.



David graduated from Mason City High School and Mason City Junior

College.



He married Jacqueline Proscovec on April 21, 1972, at St. Joseph's

Catholic Church, Mason City.



David was employed by Lynch Livestock as a buyer and manager

of the station.



He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of

Christ, Mason City. He was also a member of the Mohawk Baseball

team as an outfield and pitcher while in high school.



He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of fishing and hunting.



He is survived by his wife, Jackie Starr of Mason City; two

sons, Travis Starr of Mason City and Casey Starr, Mason City;

his parents, Elmer and Esther Starr of Mason City; one brother,

Harvey Starr and his wife, Brenda, of Milton, Fla.; and his father

and mother-in-law, Jack and Beverly Proscovec of Mason City.

Sharon Kay Calkins

CHARLES CITY 



     Sharon Calkins, 49, died Monday (Sept. 25, 1995) at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kingdom

Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Richard Tector officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.



There will be no visitation.  Hauser Funeral Home is in charge

of arrangements.



The family requests memorials be sent to Heart to Home Hospice

or the American Cancer Society.



Sharon Kay Calkins was born April 24, 1946, in New Hampton.



Survivors include her parents, Richard and Mary Calkins of Charles

City; one brother, Martin Calkins of Shenandoah; and two sisters,

Shirley DeVries of Atlanta, Ga., and Janice Dehn of Memphis,

Tenn.

WHITTEMORE 



     Tony Lane, 15, of Whittemore, died Monday (Sept. 25, 1995)

in an auto accident near Rodman.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St.

Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Murray officiating.

Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.



Visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf

Funeral Home with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer

26, 1995 at home.

Will Hunsacker of the Open Bible Church, Clear Lake, officiating.

Pearl was born Dec. 24, 1908, in Ewing, Neb., to Charles Cox and

Della Cox (nee) Cover.  She grew up around Jefferson and attended

schools in Jefferson.



She was married to Carl Shafer on Dec. 24, 1927, at Grand Junction,

where they farmed for several years.



They moved to Mason City in 1935 and farmed in the area until

1942.



The highlights of her life were visits from her children and

grandchildren.



She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.



Survivors include five sons, Ralph J. Shafer and his wife, Dixie,

of Mason City; George Shafer of Mason City; Frank Shafer and

his wife, Janice, of Mason City; Joe Shafer of Garner and 

David Shafer and his wife, Alma, of Mason City; one daughter-in-law,

Wilma Shafer of Mason City; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren;

and one brother, Clifton Cox and wife, Charlene, of Ogden.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl in 1966;

a son, Raymond Shafer; a daughter, Leila Atkinson; and four brothers,

Ervin Shafer, Ed Shafer, Curtis Shafer and Kenneth Shafer.

Edgar A. Crapser

     Edgar A. Crapser, 69, of Eugene, Ore., formerly of Northwood,

died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 1995) at his home in Northwood.



There will be no visitation or funeral services. According to

his wishes, the body was cremated.



The family of Edgar A. Crapser has requested that memorial

contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.



Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, is in  charge of arrangements.



Edgar A. Crapser was born on Jan. 1, 1926, in Sheffield, the

son of Edgar Crapser and Sigrid (nee) Furness Crapser. He 

attended and received his education in the Mason City and Northwood 

school systems.



He was inducted into the United States Navy serving overseas

in the Pacific Theater during World War II.



He was united in marriage to Rachel Miller on Sept. 27, 1947,

in Mason City.



Edgar farmed in the Northwood area for several years until 1965

when they moved into Northwood, working as an insurance agent

in the Northwood area for the Northwestern National Insurance

Company from Minneapolis, Minn., for three years, moving to Wyoming

and Montana.



He was of the Lutheran faith and was a life time member and

former commander of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779 in Northwood.



Survivors include his wife, Rachel Crapser of Northwood; one

daughter, Joanne Tucker and her husband, Dan, of Flagstaff, Ariz.;

one son, Brett Crapser and his wife, Kim, of Lisle, Ill.; five

grandchildren; one brother, Donald Crapser and his wife, Merna,

of Des Moines; and one sister, Lois Landouw and her husband,

Max, of Tustin, Calif., as well as other relatives and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, 

Lowell Crapser.

     Richard G. Rieken, 83, of Woden, died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 1995)

at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First

Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roland Emond Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in the Bingham Township Cemetery, with graveside

military rites by the Woden Veterans Ceremonial Unit.



Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral

Chapel, Woden.



Richard G. Rieken, the son of Garrelt Rieken and Anna (nee) Kuschel 

Rieken was born July 18, 1912, on a farm near Woden.



After attending school in Bingham Township and Crystal Lake,

he farmed with his parents for several years.



From 1942-1945, he served his country in the United States

Army Air Force, being stationed in Liverpool, England. After

the service, he returned to Woden and continued farming.



On May 6, 1947, he married Lena Thomas in the Presbyterian manse

in Woden. They lived and farmed southeast of Woden. In the mid

1970s, they retired from active farming, but continued to live

on the farm.



He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a charter

member of the Woden American Legion Post #628.



He is survived by his wife, Lena Rieken of Woden; three sisters,

Cora Gerdes of Cedar Falls, Caroline Swan of Forest City and

Anna Green and her husband, Elbert, of Britt; many nieces and

nephews and a host of friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Rieken

on April 13, 1989; and a brother, Carl Rieken on Sept. 28, 1994.

Byron Charles Hill

MASON CITY 



     Byron Charles Hill, 61, of rural Mason City and a life-long

Manly community resident, died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 1995) at his

home.

     

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bethel United

Methodist Church in Manly with the Rev. James Poulsen officiating.

Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery. 



Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bride Colonial

Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to service

time at the church on Friday.



Byron Charles Hill was born on July 4, 1934, at the family home

in Section 32, Lincoln Township near Manly, the son of 

Virgil W. Hill and Ida (nee) Holstad Hill.



He attended Iowa State University in Ames graduating in December

of 1955 with a B.S. degree in agriculture.



He began farming in the Manly area in 1956 and was the fifth

generation of his family to farm in Worth County.



He was united in marriage to Susan Grimm on June 14, 1959,

in Butte, Mont.



After their marriage they continued to farm in the Worth County

area.



He also was a Pioneer Seed salesman in Manly for 28 years and

was a Wayne Feed Sales representative.



He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, preserving the past

and looking toward the future, but his greatest love and enjoyment

was his family and grandchildren.



He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, teaching

Sunday school and serving on several committees and boards within

the church in Manly.



He also served on the Iowa State Legislative Affairs committee,

served on the Worth County Extension Council, was a Farm Bureau

board member, a member of the River City Barber Shop Chorus for

20 years, 4-H leader and helped organize a stock buying club.



He also served on the advisory board which created the OK House

now located on the North Iowa Area Community College campus in

Mason City.



He is survived by his wife, Susan Hill, rural Mason City; two

daughters, Kathleen Hill of Ames and Jennifer Hill of rural Mason

City; two sons, Eric Virgil Hill and his wife, Alison, and 

Andrew Alfred Hill, all of Manly; three grandchildren, 

Elizabeth Rachel Hill, Aaron Jacob Hill and Isaac Joseph Hill, 

all of Manly; three sisters, Carolyn Jackel and her husband, 

Harlan of Kensett; Marjorie Johnson and her husband, Kenneth of 

Northwood; and Janet Kreb and her husband, Francis, of Cedar Falls, 

as well as many relatives and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Funeral services for James D. Schroeder, 70, of 506 East Iowa

Road, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 30, 1995) at

St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene with Rev. Lance Kittleson

officiating.

     

James Douglas Schroeder was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Britt, Hancock

County, a son of Emil Carl Schroeder and Lela (nee) Wagner Schroeder 

and died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center

in Mason City of cancer.



Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Reid's Funeral

Chapel in Greene where the family will receive friends from 6

to 9 p.m.  There will be a public Scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

at the chapel.



Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with graveside military

rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.



He received his education in the Sheffield Public Schools graduating

in 1943.  On June 26 of that year he entered the United States

Army where he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the European

Theater until his discharge on March 22, 1946, when he became

employed by Andrews Concrete Products in Mason City.



On Sept. 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Mary K. Schreiber

at the home of her parents in rural Sheffield.  To this union

was born three children.  Jim and his family moved to Greene

on April 14, 1959, following his purchase of the Paul E. Beguelin

Construction Company in which he operated in the name of Schroeder

Concrete and Construction Company until his semi-retirement in

1989.



Jim's special interests included fishing and golfing which he

later enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren.  Jim and Mary enjoyed

traveling with their motor home and spending 10 winters in Arizona.



Other interests included wood working and working out in the

yard.  He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene

where he served on the Church Council, served on the Greene Swimming

Pool Board and former member of Alpha Lodge 326 A.F. & A.M. of

Greene He was also a member of Round Grove Country Club in Greene.



Living family members include his loving wife of 49 years, 

Mary, of Greene; one daughter, Jan Schroeder and her husband

Bruce McIntosh of Corvallis, Ore.; two sons, Bruce Schroeder

of Greene and Dan Schroeder and his wife Carol Schroeder of 

Greene; six grandchildren, Todd, Sara, Justin and Jace Schroeder, 

and twin granddaughters Hanna and Mariah Schroeder-McIntosh; and 

one sister Carroll Nelson of Britt.



He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, two sisters,

Evelyn Schroeder and Betty Ann Schroeder; two brothers, 

Rollin ``Bud'' Schroeder and Robert ``Ike'' Schroeder; and 

one stepbrother, Clifford Kittleson.

Donna Rae Moore was born Feb. 19, 1945, in Buffalo Center, Iowa,

a daughter of Ted Buchanan and Ann (nee) Alphs Buchanan.



She spent most of her life in North Iowa. She was a 1963 graduate

of Big Fork High School, Big Fork, Minn.



She was united in marriage to Gene Miller on June 20, 1964,

in Rudd, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Tim and

Stephanie.



She was united in marriage to Larry Moore on June 10, 1974,

in Long Beach, Miss.



While living in Rudd, she worked for the RRMR School District

for approximately 12 years.



She later moved to Houston, Texas, where she was employed by

the Cy-Fair I.S.D. schools for many years.



She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.



She volunteered time at a foster care mission. She was also

very active in the singles group at church.



She was a very loving, giving person who gave freely of her

love and time to others.



She spent a great deal of time caring for her many beautiful

flower gardens.



Donna struggled several years with cancer and was a patient

at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.



She is survived by one son, Tim Miller of Grapevine, Texas;

one daughter, Stephanie Walters of Houston, Texas; two granddaughters,

Amanda and Kristin Miller of Grapevine, Texas; her parents, Ted

and Ann Buchanan of Pass Christian, Miss.; one sister, Gayl Smith

and her husband, Jim of Rudd, Iowa; two brothers, Duane Buchanan

and his wife, Linda of Rudd, Iowa, and Gary Buchanan and his wife, Karen,

of Houston, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many beloved

friends.

Jerome J. `Jerry' Schmitz

CLEAR LAKE 



     Jerome J. ``Jerry'' Schmitz, 72, of 19784 Heather Ave., Clear

Lake, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health

Center's east campus, Mason City.



Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic

Church, Clear Lake. Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka will officiate.

 Following services, the body will be cremated.



Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial

Chapel, 1101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.  A Scriptural wake service

will be held at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.



The family suggests memorials in his name.



Jerry was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son

of Francis and Anna Schmitz.  The family moved to Chicago, Ill.,

when Jerry was 5 months old.  He graduated from Lane Tech High

School in Chicago and went on to earn a degree in civil engineering

from the University of Chicago.



He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a

civil engineer Sea Bee, helping to build the air strip in Guam.



He was united in marriage to Mercedes Black on June 15, 1946,

in Chicago Ill.



He began employment as a civil engineer for the Rock Island

Railroad (then Chicago North Western) on Feb. 18, 1946.  He was

employed by the line for 33 years.



After living in Minnesota and Iowa for many years, the couple

moved to Clear Lake in 1970.



Jerry enjoyed collecting stamps and H.O. model trains, as well

as golf, deer hunting and working in the yard.



He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Ducks Unlimited.



He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Schmitz of Clear Lake;

five children, J.J. and his wife Annie Schmitz of Waterloo; 

Patricia Swanson and her husband Charles of Hastings, Minn.; 

Susan Riordan and her husband Kevin of Carbondale, Colo.; 

Faith Bratton and her husband Joe of Clive and Edward Schmitz 

of St.  Paul, Minn.; a sister, Cecilia DeDecker of Phoenix, 

Ariz.; and 18 grandchildren.

officiating.  Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell.

Verbelle Beryl (Riley) Gilpin, the daughter of Richard Riley 

and Gladys (nee) Lewis Riley, was born Oct. 31, 1913, at Fort Dodge.  

She attended school through the ninth grade in Webster City and came 

to Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School.  

She was united in marriage to Leon J. Gilpin on Nov. 29, 1933, at 

Fort Dodge.  They farmed near Klemme until Leon's death and 

Verbelle moved to Goodell.  She had been a resident of the 

Kanawha Community Nursing Home the past three years.



She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme, UMW,

Methodist Women's Circles, Jolly Workers Club, Sunshine Club,

Senior Citizens in Goodell and the Kitchen Klatter Band in Meservey.

 

She enjoyed crafts, fishing, the outdoors and especially her

family.



She is survived by a daughter, Judith Fenske and her husband,

Willard, of Mankato, Minn.; sons, Clarence Gilpin and his wife,

Ruth, of Klemme and Paul Gilpin and his wife, Deb, of Thornton,

Colo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law,

Flossie Lentch of Scotts Bluff, Neb.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant

daughter, Cora Gilpin.

Glen E. Bunting was born March 28, 1913, in rural Corwith, the

son of Ira Bunting and Laura Estle (nee) Dunfee Bunting.



Galen graduated from Britt High School in 1933.



Galen married Esther Gordon on Sept. 9, 1936, in Mason City.



They farmed in London, Minn,. for a couple of years, then moved

to Mason City and Britt and returned to Mason City in 1947.



Glen then worked for the Lehigh Portland Cement Company for

over 30 years, retiring in 1976.



Glen enjoyed bowling and traveling.



He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Odd Fellows.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Lehigh

Employee Retirement Group.

Chicago, Ill., and Glen Bunting of Santa Clara, Calif.; 

one great-granddaughter, Shannon Leila Hostetler; and one sister, 

Verola Olson of Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther Bunting 

in 1993; one son, Richard D. Bunting; and one brother.

Carl William Godfrey

PLYMOUTH 



     Carl William Godfrey, 91, of Plymouth, died Tuesday (Sept.

26, 1995) at the Manly Care Center.

     

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Plymouth

United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David A. Anderson of 

St. James Lutheran Church of Mason City officiating. Burial will

be in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.



Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bride Colonial Chapel,

110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to service time

on Friday at the church.



Carl William Godfrey was born on Aug. 26, 1904, in Parsons,

Kan., the son of James Godfrey and Elva (nee) Kugler Godfrey.



He attended and received his education in the Worth County Schools

and worked for farmers in the Northwood, Plymouth and Worth County

area.



He also farmed on his own until the 1930s and then went into

carpentry work working for various people building homes for

many years until his retirement.



He also worked for the American Crystal Sugar Company in Mason

City.



He was united in marriage to Florence Mahn on Feb. 10, 1926,

in Plymouth. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1985.



He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.



He was a former member of the Lions Club, City Council and Senior

Citizens, all in Plymouth, and was a former member of the Moose

Lodge in Mason City.



Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy Frank and her husband,

Nick of Apple Valley, Calif.; June Cornelius of Plymouth; 

Bonnie Scher of Paramount, Calif., and Avis Keenan and her husband,

Dennis, of Tujunga, Calif.; one son, Daniel Godfrey and his wife,

Millie, of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;

and eight great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Logeman

of Manly, Beva Pixley of Northwood and Ioam Godfrey and her husband,

Harry, of Boone; as well as other relatives and friends.



Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one

son, Billy Godfrey; one sister, Irene Eilertson; and one brother,

Orble Godfrey.

     Philip E. Parcher, 82, of rural Marble Rock, died Wednesday

(Sept. 27, 1995) at home.



Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Marble Rock

United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating.

Burial will be in Westside Cemetery.



Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Fullerton Hage

Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, with the family greeting

friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue from 11 a.m.

until time of service at the church.



Philip Edward Parcher was born Dec. 11, 1912, in rural Marble

Rock.



Survivors include his wife, Marie, of rural Marble Rock; two

daughters, Betty Jo Staudt of Marble Rock and Maxine Hershey

of Hazelton; three sons, Earl Parcher, Jerry Parcher and 

Dale Parcher, all of Marble Rock; a stepson, Raymond Smith of 

Greene; a stepdaughter, Linda Brandau of Charles City; 

24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.



He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife. one

     Janet Rose Walker, 64, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 1995) at the

Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunnyside

Chapel, Charles City, with the Rev. John Albrecht of Zion Lutheran

Church, Rockford, officiating.  Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory

Gardens, Charles City.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today and will continue

at 9 a.m. until time of services at the Sunnyside Chapel on Saturday.



Janet Rose Walker was born Nov. 18, 1930, in Lake City.



Survivors include her mother, Erma Amsden of Charles City; her

husband, Glenn, of Rockford; two daughters, Ronda Rinehammer

of Lake Station, Ind., and Roxanne Daniel of Bondurant; two sons,

Randy of Denver, Colo., and Ron of Lakewood, Colo.; one sister,

Jean DeForge of Grand Prairie, Texas; four brothers, Bob of Union

Grove, Wis.; Duane of Adams, Wis.; Jim of Denison, and Elmer

of McMinnville, Ore.; and six grandchildren.

Lee E. Hunsley was born Dec. 13, 1913, in Britt.



Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hunsley; two sons, Mark Hunsley 

of Minneapolis, Minn., and Doug Hunsley of Tyler, Texas; and six 

grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five

John C. (Jr.) Davis

CEDAR RAPIDS 



     John C. Davis Jr., 74, of 3552 Redbud Road N.E., died Wednesday

(Sept. 27, 1995) at his home from cancer.



Services will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic

Church.  The Rev. David Beckman will officiate.  Graveside service

and interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary

Cemetery, Ottumwa, with military rites.  Friends may call at

Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today with a wake

service at 7:30 p.m.



Survivors include his wife, Eloise Davis; three sons, John Davis and 

his wife, SunAe of Spokane, Wash.; Robert David and his wife, Kim of 

Metairie, La., and David Davis of Naperville, Ill.; four daughters, 

Nancy Jaszewski and her husband, John of Mason City; Jeanne Stachovsky 

and her husband, John of Marrero, La.; Mary Hammond and her husband,

Ron of Urbandale, and Theresa Shea and her husband, Gregory of

New Orleans, La.; one brother, Paul and his wife, Nancy of Sun

City West, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Andy Jaszewski and his fiance,

Julie Meye; Bailey and Bennet Hammerberg, Alex and Katie Stachovsky,

and Amanda and Brad Hammond. 



He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Davis,

and brother Robert Davis who was killed in action in the Philippines

during World War II.



John was born May 22, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., to John and

Elsie Bruder Davis.  After graduating from Ottumwa High School,

he served in the Army Air Force as a radio operator on a B17

in World War II.  He was taken as a German prisoner of war for

14 months after being shot down over France in 1944.  Upon returning

to the states, he graduated from Omaha Art School and married

M. Eloise Allar on June 1, 1946.  He was employed by John Morrell

and Company in Ottumwa as a commercial artist.  After 1972, he

was employed by R.H. Silkscreen in Cedar Rapids until retirement.

He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids

and VFW Post No. 775 in Ottumwa.



Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.

Raymond A. Kroneman

ST. ANSGAR 



     Raymond A. Kroneman, 71, of rural St. Ansgar, died Wednesday

(Sept. 27, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason

City.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's

Lutheran Church, Rock Township, Mitchell County, with the Rev.

Rose Marie Lewis officiating.  Burial will be in the St. John's

Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 7 to  9 p.m. today at Champion

Funeral Home, Osage, and will continue one hour prior to services

at the church on Saturday.



Raymond A. Kroneman was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Osage.



Survivors include three daughters, Lorraine Kroneman of Forest

City, Linda Kroneman of St. Ansgar and Lorna Kroneman Gerk of

Osage; one son, Larry Kroneman of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three sisters,

Margaret Christianson of Osage, Wanda Crom of Northwood and 

Irene Beard of Santa Fe, N.M.; and three grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter

and three infant children.

     Tony Johnson, 34, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 1995) at the University

of Minnesota Hospital, Minneapolis.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Hampton

Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Funeral Home.



Tony Johnson was born Dec. 9, 1960, in Webster City.



Survivors include his wife, Kim Johnson of Hampton; two sons,

Seth Johnson and Tyler Johnson, both of Hampton; his father, 

Ronald Johnson of Nora Springs; his mother, June Newgaard of 

Kanawha; his stepfather, Richard Newgaard of Kanawha; one sister, 

Kim Martinez of Kanawha; five brothers, Rory Johnson of Dows, 

Ronnie Johnson and Eric Johnson, both of Nora Springs, and 

Chris Newgaard and Rick Newgaard, both of Kanawha.



He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and paternal

grandparents.
