Delores Hubka
SHEFFIELD  

     Delores Hubka, 56, of 402 Thompson, Sheffield, died Monday
(Oct. 23, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason
City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer
officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral
Home, Sheffield, with a 6:30 p.m. Scripture service.

Delores M. Hubka was born on Sept. 24, 1939, in Waucoma, the
daughter of Joseph Wichman and Huberta (nee) McAlcer Wichman.

She attended and graduated from the Lawler High School in Lawler.

She worked for a bakery in New Hampton for several years. 

On Sept. 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to Don Hubka in
Lawler. They made their home in Cresco until moving to Rockwell
in 1975.

In 1978, they moved to Sheffield, where she has lived for 17
years working as a school cook in the Sheffield-Chapin school
system for 14 years. Delores enjoyed playing cards, bowling,
watching the Chicago Cubs and dancing.

 She is survived by nine children, Deborah Oltman of Chapin,
Daniel Hubka of Sheffield, David Hubka of Belmond, Denise Hubka
of Sheffield, Douglas Hubka of Sheffield, Deanne Dahlstorm of
Ankeny, Doreen Hubka, Dale Hubka and Dean Hubka, all of Sheffield;
seven grandchildren, Joseph Hubka, Levi Hubka, Erica Pals,
Stephanie Hubka and Jordon Hubka, all of Sheffield; Callie Oltman
of Chapin, and Brenton Dahlstrom of Ankeny; five sisters,
Sister Mary Cephas  of Cedar Rapids; Madonna Einwalter of Fort Atkinson;
Dorothy Mihm of Gresham, Ore.; Eleanor Burke of Elma, and
Margaret Regenold of Fairbank; and two brothers, Robert Wichman and
James Wichman, both of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three
brothers.

Margaret Hassebroek
BUFFALO CENTER  

     Margaret Hassebroek, 85, of Buffalo Center, passed away Tuesday
(Oct. 24, 1995) at her home.
                     
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational
Church, with the Rev. James Sullivan officiating.  Burial will
be in Olena Mound Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Winter Funeral
Home.

Margaret Hassebroek was born at George on June 12, 1910,  to
Fred Van Hoorn and Gretchen Van Hoorn.

When she was 8 months old, she moved with her parents to Corona
S.D. Margaret was the second of eight children.

She lived in Corona until 1929 when she moved to George, to
live with an aunt and uncle. During this time, she worked as
a hired girl for families and also in a restaurant.

 While living in George, she met Marvin Hassebroek whom she
later married on June 20, 1934. To this union, six children were
born.

In March of 1935, Marvin and Margaret moved to Buffalo Center.
After living in and around Buffalo Center for five years, they
started farming northeast of Buffalo Center.

In November of 1963, Marvin passed away and in 1964, Margaret
moved to Buffalo Center where she resided until her death.

Margaret started to work at the Timely Mission Nursing Home
in 1965. Margaret owned a Scripture and book store in Buffalo
Center.

 After her retirement in 1976, Margaret enjoyed traveling on
bus tours and taking vacations with her friends and family. She
was an avid bowler.

Margaret was a member of the First Congregational Church of
Buffalo Center and was active in Ladies Aid and affiliated services
in the church. She was a 4-H leader and member of the Community
Club for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary with which she held several offices. She enjoyed making
quilts and favors for the veterans.

She leaves to mourn in her passing, four sons and two daughters,
Marlyn and wife, Ruth of Buffalo Center; Shirley and husband,
Mark Eisenbarth of Algona; Robert and wife, DeeAnn of Buffalo
Center; Wilbert and wife, Nancy of Buffalo Center; Dennis and
wife, Nola of West Des Moines, and Elaine and husband,
Roger Wilcox of Hampton; also two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Ferd) Selchert
of Milbank, S.D., and Rachel Amsden of Milbank, S.D.; two brothers,
Dick Van Hoorn and wife, Harriet of Tualatin, Ore., and
Siebe Van Hoorn and wife, Evelyn, of Milbank, S.D.; three brothers-in-law,
Harold Winter of Portland, Ore.; John Hassebroek and wife, Bonnie
of Sioux City, and Harvey Hassebroek and wife, Grace of Buffalo
Center; and one sister-in-law, Vera Hassebroek of George; 20
grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin;
two sisters, Frieda Gommer and Sarah Winter; one brother,
Fred Van Hoorn; and three grandchildren.

Ricky Ray St.John
ALGONA 

     Ricky Ray St. John, 44, of Algona, died Monday (Oct. 23, 1995)
at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the 
Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.  

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and again after
9 a.m. Saturday until the time of service.

Ricky Ray St. John was born Feb. 4, 1951, in Iowa City.

Survivors include his children, Jessie, Jamie and Justin St.John 
of Des Moines; his father, Everett St.John of Algona; two
sisters, Linda Parcell of Minneapolis, Minn., and Debra Gatton
of Algona; three brothers, Francis St. John of Spring Valley,
Calif.; Robert St.John of New Richmond, Wis., and
Wilbur St.John of Algona; and maternal grandmother, Polly Jennings 
of Corwith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, paternal grandparents
and maternal grandfather.

Gertrude Beyer
OSAGE  

     Gertrude Beyer, 65, of Osage, died Monday (Oct. 23, 1995) at
 North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. John Moser officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at Champion Funeral
Home, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service.

Gertude was born Jan. 16, 1930, on the family farm near Osage.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Beyer of Osage; two sons,
Donald Beyer of Mitchell, and Thomas Beyer of Osage; two daughters,
Jane Scholl of Crystal, Minn., and Julie Johnson of Osage; four
sisters, Mary Gray of Phoenix, Ariz.; Grace Ciesielski of Hales
Corners, Wis.; Irene Mullenbach of Little Cedar, and Agnes Watson
of Petal, Miss.; one brother, Clem (Jr.) Johanns of Osage; and
12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Esther H. Paxton
MASON CITY 

     Esther H. Paxton, 86, of Harpeth Terrace Care Center, Franklin,
Tenn., died Sunday (Oct. 22, 1995) at the care center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First
United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Sharon
Bettsworth officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to
services at the church.

Esther H. Paxton was born July 1, 1909, in Ogden, the daughter
of John Gust Sampson and Emily C. Sampson (nee) Kollin.

Esther graduated from high school in Chicago, Ill.

She married Wiffing H. Paxton on May 18, 1929, in St. Paul,
Minn. and was married for 60 years.

 Esther worked in the accounting and bookkeeping office for
Jacob E. Decker and  Sons for 24 years, retiring in 1974.

Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW,
KB Circle, Chautauqua Study Club, Eastern Star, White Shrine,
Women's Club, Armour-Decker Retirees and was active in the PTA
for many years.

Esther was also a seamstress and enjoyed flowers and cooking.

Esther moved to California in December of 1988, then joined
her daughter in Tennessee in 1994.

She is survived by two sons, Robert W. Paxton of Camas, Wash.,
and James A. Paxton of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters,
Janet L. Keenan of Sequim, Wash., and Barbara J. Try of Franklin, 
Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiffing, in 1990;
two brothers, Alfred and Howard Sampson; and four sisters, Alice, Edna,
Elsie and Hazel.

Ruby M. Fagundes
MERCED, Calif. 

     Ruby M. (Hockenson) Fagundes, 69, of Merced,  formerly of Mason
City, Iowa, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 1995) at a Merced hospital.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 1995.

Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Chapel, 1490 B St., Merced, 
was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fagundes was born April 22, 1926, in Thornton, a daughter
of Emil Hockenson and Emma Hockenson (nee) Thoreson.

She attended Thornton and Mason City schools.

Mrs. Fagundes was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of
Merced and was active in the church choir.

She also loved to write poetry and had several of her poems
published over the years.

Mrs. Fagundes is survived by two sons, Randy Fagundes and
Rod Fagundes, both of California; one sister, Bernice Ristau of Mason
City, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Lionel Fagundes; one brother, Arnold Hockenson; and one sister,
Opal Kost.

     Cecil C. Morehouse, 81, of Aredale, died Wednesday (Oct. 25,
1995) at the Dumont Care Center, Dumont.

Funeral Home, Dumont, with the Rev. Carl Gearhart officiating.
Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery.

     Harold G. Richtsmeier, 77, of Dumont, died Thursday (Oct. 26,
1995) in rural Franklin County.

Harold G. Richtsmeier was born Aug. 8, 1918, in rural Butler
County.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Richtsmeier of Dumont; one daughter,

of Columbia, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one sister.

     Velma M. Stout, 90, formerly of Little Cedar, died Thursday
(Oct. 26, 1995) at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

Burial will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery.

Velma M. Stout was born on June 9, 1905, near Riceville.

Survivors include one daughter, Delia Julius of Riceville; one
son, William Stout of Lowden; four grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one
brother.

     Florence M. Skilling, 89, died Wednesday (Oct. 25, 1995) at
the Algona Manor Care Center.

will be in Calvary Cemetery.

a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Florence M. Skilling was born May 11, 1906, in rural Algona.

Survivors include one son, Dewey Skilling of Algona; one sister,
Helen Steinberg of Perry; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Charles 'Keith' Sibert
MASON CITY 

     ``Keith'' Charles Sibert, 80, of 1605 S. Harding Ave., died
Wednesday (Oct. 25, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fullerton
Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., with the
Rev. Dan Conklin of the Calvary Alliance Church officiating.
Interment will be at Sunnyside Memory Garden, Charles City.

Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Memorial
Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
chapel.

Keith was born  Feb. 5, 1915, in Floyd, to Charles Sibert and
Eliza Sibert (nee) Bush.  He was one of nine children and lived in the
Rudd and Charles City area before moving to Mason City.  He lived
in Mason City for 40 years.  He served his country in the United
States Army in World War II in Italy, and was a member of the
Mason City VFW Post #733.  Keith was employed by Lehigh Cement
Company for 28 years in trucking, retiring in 1977.  He volunteered
as ``Santa'' for the Salvation Army for several years, and enjoyed
playing the guitar and singing with a band.  He earned the nickname,
``Banjo'' from his musical talents.  Keith's hobbies included
gardening, fishing and find-a-word puzzles.  He enjoyed camping
with family and friends and his family will long remember his
Sunday morning pancakes.

``Keith'' Charles Sibert is survived by his daughters, Mrs.
Brian (Jeanette) Winfrey of Hampton, and Phyllis Sibert-Morgan
of Mason City; two sons, David Sibert and his wife, Debbie, of
Waukeegen, Ill., and Thomas P. Sibert of Alaska; two stepsons,
James Robbins and his wife, Darla, of Wildwood, Ill., and
Adam (Jr.) Robbins of Des Moines; grandchildren, Steve, Andi, Jennifer,
Danny, Frank, Brianna and Krystal; two sisters, Helen Scott of
Mason City, and Mildred O'Neil of Fort Dodge; and many nieces
and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie, in
1994; two brothers; and two sisters.

Lawrence B. Matzen
JEFFERSON 

     Lawrence B. Matzen, 86, of Jefferson, formerly of Mason City,
died Monday (Oct. 23, 1995).

Funeral services were held Thursday (Oct. 26, 1995) at the Slininger-Rossow
Chapel, Jefferson, with the Rev. David Goin officiating.  Burial
was in the Franklin Township Cemetery, Cooper.

Lawrence ``Larry'' Matzen was born April 4, 1909, on a farm
near Mason City.  He was the son of Andrew Matzen and 
Minnie Matzen (nee) Sieverson.

Larry attended a rural school that was located on the Matzen
farm.  He was a member of the 4-H club.  At the age of 10, Larry wrote a
4-H essay about showing Hereford cattle and won a trip to Chicago.

For several years, Larry worked at the Mason City Packing Plant
and he also worked at the Sugar Beet Plant.  His enjoyment of
Hereford cattle continued over the years by showing Herefords
at the Iowa State Fair for Ed Wiese of Manning.

On Jan. 4, 1938, Larry was united in marriage to Florence Whitecotton
at Mason City.  The couple moved to Bagley, and then in 1950
they moved to Jefferson.  Larry worked for the Jefferson Feed
Mill for 29 years, retiring in 1971.

In his retirement, Larry enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He also cracked walnuts and liked doing yard work, gardening
and growing flowers.

He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Jefferson
and had been a member of the Hereford Association for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Florence Matzen of Jefferson; a son
from a previous marriage, Gerald Matzen of Ames; a daughter,
Barbara Shriver of Jefferson; two brothers, Alvin Matzen of Mason
City, and Walter Matzen of Blockton; nine grandchildren; 15 great-
grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters; two brothers;
and twins, a boy and a girl who died in infancy.

MASON CITY 

     Madison Louise McBride, 13-day-old daughter of Daren and Jennifer
McBride of Mason City, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 1995) at Children's
Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minn., of complications from Golden
Heart Syndrome.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First
Covenant Church, Highway 18 East and Ohio Ave., Mason City, with
the Rev. Mark Anderson, youth pastor, officiating.  Burial will
be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.

Madison Louise McBride was born Oct. 12, 1995, in Mason City.

Living family members include her parents, Daren and Jennifer

sister, Allison Joyce McBride, all of Mason City; maternal grandmother,

Dennis C. Mooberry
CHARLES CITY 

     Dennis C. Mooberry, 49, of 208 Charles St., Charles City, died
Thursday (Oct. 26, 1995) at home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main and Gilbert Streets, Charles
City, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag and Karen Rask-Behling
officiating. Burial will be with military graveside honors conducted
by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m.
Sunday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., and
one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Dennis Charles Mooberry was born Aug. 20, 1946, in Charles City.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy, of Charles City; three brothers,
William Mooberry of Charles City; his twin brother, Dale Mooberry
of Osage, and Jerry Mooberry of Sulphur, La.; three sisters,
Barbara Lensing of Charles City, Janice Robbins of Ionia, and
Connie Jenn of Naples, Idaho; and his stepmother, Thelma Mooberry
of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister.

His father, Clinton, died shortly after Dennis on Thursday.

John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be
in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

friends from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. until time
of service.

Clinton John Mooberry was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Marble Rock.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Mooberry of Charles City;
three sons, Gerald Mooberry of Sulpher, La.; William Mooberry
of Charles City, and Dale Mooberry of Osage; three daughters,
Janice Robbins of Ionia; Connie Jenn of Naples, Idaho, and
Barbara Lensing of Charles City; seven stepchildren; one sister,
Marge deBuhr of Charles City; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren;
and many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his
second wife, one daughter, one son and one sister.

     John L. Popp, 96, of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 26, 1995) at
Mitchell County Regional Health Center.

will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

John L. Popp was born Dec. 14, 1898, in rural Osage.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Popp and Donald Popp, both
of Osage; one sister, Elizabeth Popp of Osage; nine grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother
and four sisters.

Carla Jo Mehus
DES MOINES  

     Carla Jo Mehus, 44, 3200 Wauwatosa Drive, Des Moines, died Thursday
(Aug. 26, 1995) at Resurrection Hospital, Chicago, Ill., from
complications from asthma.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran
Church, Sixth and Keo, Des Moines.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at  Eldora Cemetery,
Eldora.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Southtown
Funeral Home, 5400 S. W. Ninth St., Des Moines, with the family
being present from 4 to 6 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the United Way in in her memory.

Carla Jo Mehus was born Dec. 4, 1950, in Belmond, a daughter
of Joseph Mehus and Evelyn Mae Mehus (nee) Pringnitz.

She was employed at Blue Cross & Blue Shield, acturial services.

She was a board member of the Iowa Comprehensive Association.
She played a key role in helping to model Iowa insurance market
reform legislation. She was a member of the Lambda Chapter of
Phi Sigma Alpha of Des Moines.

Survivors include her mother, Evelyn Mae Mehus of Eldora; two
sisters, LaVon Pfeifler and her husband, Tom, of Des Moines,
and Adela Niedermann and her husband, Dale, of Madrid; one brother,
Neal Mehus and his wife, Nancy, of Radcliffe; two nieces,
Kris Mehus and Angela Mehus, both of Radcliffe; and six nephews,
Allen Niedermann of Madrid; Eric Niedermann, Des Moines; 
Ian Niedermann of Madrid; Daniel Pfeifler, Brian Pfeifler 
and Paul Pfeifler, all of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Mehus.

Gertrude Revland
GARNER 

     Gertrude Revland, 76, of Garner, died Thursday (Oct. 26, 1995)
at the Concord Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. today at St. Boniface
Catholic Church, with the Rev. John W. Hemann officiating. Burial
will be in the Hanna Cemetery, south of Lake Mills.

Visitation, rosary society rosary and Scriptural wake service
were held Friday evening at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Gertrude Dorothy Revland was born April 18, 1918, at Faith, S.D.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Revland of Topeka, Kan.,
and Thomas Revland of Belle Plaine, Minn.; eight grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Susie O'Hern of Britt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers.

     Roy Peterson, 71, of 107 N. Joslin, died Thursday (Oct. 26,
1995) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity United
Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Bissett officiating. Burial
will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hauser Funeral
Home, 1205 S. Main St., and one hour prior to services at the
church.

Roy Peterson was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Buxton.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Peterson of Charles City;
one son, David Peterson of Des Moines; one daughter, Gayle Peterson
of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren; one brother,
David ``Ivan'' Peterson of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, 
Linnea Colgan, Elizabeth Lund and Naomi Culmer, 
all of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and
two sisters.

Ervin Lee `Sonny' Uhlenhopp
GREENE 

     Funeral services for Ervin Lee ``Sonny'' Uhlenhopp, 54, of
422 N. Second St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St.
Peter's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Reid's
Funeral Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 to
9 p.m.  There will be a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
at the chapel.  Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday
one hour before services.

Ervin Lee Uhlenhopp was born Jan. 4, 1941,  at Waverly, Iowa,
a son of Harm R. Uhlenhopp and Nellie Uhlenhopp (nee) Johnson,
and died Friday (Oct. 27, 1995) at his home in Greene of an apparent
heart attack.

He received his education in the rural Butler County schools
and attended the Allison High School.  On Feb. 28, 1959, he was
united in marriage to JoAnne L. Miller at the Little Brown Church
in Nashua.  To this union was born three children.

As a young man he worked for farmers in the Ackley area and
later worked for Ralph Marsh in Greene for four years.  In 1961
he began to haul milk for the Farmers Cooperative Creamery in
Greene where he remained until 1971 when he took over ownership
of Sonny's Lounge in Greene, which he operated until 1989.  He
was last employed by North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason
City as utility custodian where he remained until his death.

Sonny had many interests which included working outdoors and
on his John Deere A tractor, spending time with his grandchildren,
playing cards with his friends, watching boxing on TV, hunting
and fishing.  He was proud of his involvement with Alcoholics
Anonymous and his work with recovering alcoholics.

He was baptized and confirmed a member of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church in Greene on April 13, 1960.

Living family members include his loving wife of 36 years, JoAnne
of Greene; daughter, Debra, and her husband, Gregory Bublitz,
of Mason City; two sons, Bradley Uhlenhopp and his special friend,
Michele Maurer, of Clive, and Brian Uhlenhopp and his special
friend, Lana Bruhn, of Clarksville; six grandchildren, Chelsea
and Seth Bublitz, Reece Uhlenhopp, Erin and Tyler Russell and
Reece Witcraft; two sisters, Minnie and her husband, Dale Bruns,
of Greene, and Anna Mae and her husband, William Schipper, of
Ackley; three  brothers, George and his wife, Donella Uhlenhopp,
and Harley and Althea Uhlenhopp, all of Greene, and Harvey Uhlenhopp
of Portland, Ore.; his father-in-law, Daniel Miller of Greene;
and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence
and LeRoy; and his mother-in-law, Marjorie Miller.

in Sioux Falls, S.D.  The couple moved to Mason City in 1955.

Family was very important to Phyllis.  She also will be remembered
for sharing her love and herself with others.

Her hobbies included reading, as well as studying geneology.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

She is survived by her husband, Adolph Heck of Mason City; two
daughters, Andrea DiMarco and her husband, Joe, of Bozeman, Mont.,
and Nancy Dudgeon and her special friend, David Martin, of Kansas
City, Mo.; two brothers, O'Dean W. Fritza and his wife, Shirley,
of Ethan, S.D., and Larry B. Fritza and his wife, JoAnne, of
Mitchell, S.D.; two grandchildren, Steven DiMarco of Kirkland,
Wash., and Debi Johnson of Cedar Falls; and one great-grandchild,
Matthew Johnson of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother,

Margaret E. Garner
MASON CITY
 
     Margaret E. Garner, 80, of 1536 Sixth Place S.E., died Saturday
(Oct. 30, 1995) at the Good Shepherd Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday
at  Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. David R. Shogren
officiating.  Margaret's body was donated to the Palmer College
of Chiropractic, Davenport.  Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126
Third St. N.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Family members will be at the church to meet friends a half
hour before the memorial service.

Margaret was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Mystic, Iowa, a daughter
of Tom Turner and Mary Turner (nee) Lee.  She received her nurse's
training in Iowa City.

She was united in marriage to Warren Garner.  The couple moved
to the St. Ansgar and Grafton area.  In 1955, they moved to Mason
City.  They remained in Mason City until the 1970s, then she
moved to the Rock Island, Ill., area.  Margaret was employed
at the Rock Island Municipal Building as bookkeeper.  She returned
to Mason City in 1980.

She was a longtime Avon representative, as well as a receptionist
at the Travel Lodge in Mason City for many years.  She was a
member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Mason City.

She attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City.

She is survived by her son, Donald W. Garner of Mason City;
two daughters-in-law, Debby Garner of Mason City and Kim Garner
of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Shane Garner and his wife,
Jody, Kelly Garner, Erin Elizabeth Garner and Emily Garner, all
of Mason City, and Dylan R. Garner of Clear Lake; three great-
grandchildren, Libby, Levi and Luke Garner, all of Mason City; 
two sisters, Katherine Bartlett of Dubuque and Lois Padavich of 
Centerville; a special niece, Elaine Kinne of Miland, Ill.; and a 
special grandniece, Dallas Jo Anderson of Miland, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1975;
a son, Roger, in 1992; a brother, Richard Turner; and a sister,

Ileen, the daughter of Alvin Thorson and Ina Thorson (nee) Olson, 
was born April 9, 1951, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minn.  
She grew up in Northwood and attended Northwood-Kensett schools.  
She lived on the farm of her grandparents, the Carl Olsons, from
1980 to 1990.   She then moved to Mason City.

She loved her cat, Amigo, and flowers.

Survivors include her mother, Ina Thorson of Northwood; three
brothers, Allen Thorson and his wife, Jody, of Mason City,
Leroy Thorson and his wife, Lauri, of Little Canada, Minn., and
Marvin Thorson and his wife, Julie, of Northwood; a sister,
Darlene Thorson of Northwood; fiance, Steve Baumann of Mason City; eight
nieces and nephews; and one grandniece.

     Joanne Carpenter, 42, 1995 Noble Ave., died Saturday (Oct.
28, 1995) at University Hospitals, Iowa City, of cancer.

St. Charles United Methodist Church  officiating.  Burial will

Joanne Elizabeth Frankenfield Carpenter was born Oct. 30, 1952,
in Charles City, a  daughter of Harley Frankenfield and Lois (nee) Heitz
Frankenfield.  She graduated from Charles City High School and received a
bachelor of arts degree in home economics and journalism from Iowa State
University, Ames.

      On Aug. 11, 1973, she and Guy Carpenter were married on the
farm where she grew up and where they lived at the time of her
death.

       She was employed by The Oskaloosa Herald as a reporter and
editor for eight years, The Charles City Press for two years
and by The Mason City Globe-Gazette for seven years.  She also
wrote special interest and family articles for The Des Moines
Register.

     She was a member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church,
where she was a Sunday School teacher, and also taught Bible
school.  She was a 4-H committee member, was a former member
of the Heart to Home Hospice Board and was  serving as president
of the Charles City Branch of the American Association of University
Women where she held many offices for the past 20 years.  She
was employed by the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in personnel
and public relations at the time of her death.

Survivors include her husband, Guy, of Charles City; one daughter,
Dia, in eighth grade; one son, Kyle, in sixth grade; her stepmother,
Betty Frankenfield of Charles City; two sisters, 
Kathryn (Mrs. Thomas) Whitson of McClelland and 
Janet (Mrs. Arthur) Kramer of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, William,  
of Baltimore, Md.;
three stepbrothers, Ronald LaCoste of Rockford, Richard LaCoste
of Mason City and Chad LaCoste of Floyd; and three stepsisters,
Marilyn (Mrs. Tom) Grygo of Nekoosa, Wis., Patricia (Mrs. Tim)

     A Funeral Mass for Agnes Hinch, 95, will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Reid's
Funeral Chapel and will continue from 5 to 9 p.m. at St. Mary's
Catholic Church, where there will be a scripture service at 8
p.m. followed by a rosary.  Visitation will continue at the church
on Tuesday where there will be a lunch served for family and
friends at noon.

Agnes Cunningham was born Sept. 5, 1900, in Dougherty, Iowa,
a daughter of James Cunningham and Susan Cunningham (nee) Noss, 
and died Sunday (Oct. 29, 1995) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene 
where she had been a resident since March 1992.

She received her education at St. Patrick's School in Dougherty
and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. 

She was united in marriage to Alphonse Hinch on April 20, 1920,
at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty.  They farmed between
Dougherty and Aredale for 19 years before moving to Nashua in
1945.  Mr. Hinch died from injuries sustained in an auto accident
on Oct. 26, 1947.  Mrs. Hinch moved to the Roseville area for
a short time before moving to Charles City where she taught at
Immaculate Conception School.  She later lived in Mason City
for many years where she taught Head Start.  In 1978 she moved
to Greene to live near her daughter.

Agnes was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed crocheting
and tatting as a pastime.  She was a faithful member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Greene where she was a member of St. Anne's
Circle.

She leaves to join her parents; husband; son, Patrick Hinch,
who died in April 1985; daughter, Leone Zeidler, who died in
January 1994; grandson, Dennis Hinch, who died in February 1993;
two sisters, Josephine McLaughlin and Mayme Baker; and four brothers,
John, Nick, Carl and Leo Cunningham.

Living family members include her daughter, Lenore Worley of
Greene; a daughter-in-law, Phylis Hinch of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren,
Ron Worley of Mason City, Bob Worley of Riverside, Calif.,
Don Zeidler of Longmont, Colo., Sandra Strike of Marion, Bob Zeidler
of Black Hawk, S.D., Jeri Ascher and Theresa Majewski, both of
Greene, Dan Hinch and Doug Hinch, both of Des Moines, and
Tom Worley of Rockwell; 20 great-grandchildren; and five sisters,
Sister Mary Pascal of Dubuque and Gladys Lugar, Gertrude Hart,
Rose Gaubatz and Frances Klatt, all of Mason City.  Also surviving
are many nieces and nephews.

     James A. Sundberg, 64, of 780 S. Pierce Ave., died Saturday

James A. Sundberg was born May 13, 1931, in Willmar, Minn.,
a son of Austin Sundberg and Hazel Sundberg (nee) Broman.  
Jim was baptized and confirmed at the Willmar Covenant Church. 

He graduated from Willmar High School in 1949 and enlisted
in the U.S. Air Force in 1950.  While he was stationed at Clark
Air Force Base in the Phillipine Islands he served as an aircraft
radar technician.

On Sept. 13, 1952, he was united in marriage to Loraine Ekstrand
of Pocahontas at the Pomeroy Covenant Church.  Following Jim's
discharge in 1954, they made their home in Pocahontas where he
was employed as an electrical contractor for many years.

In 1982, they moved to Mason City where he was employed as
a salesman for B & J Water Conditioning of Charles City and
then as a salesman for Brown & Bigelow, Inc., of St. Paul, Minn.

Jim was a member of the Covenant Church of Mason City and
served on the Board of Trustees.  He had served on many various
boards and committees through the years in the community.  Jim's
main interest in the last several years was the Mason City-Clear
Lake Electric Trolley Association, for which he volunteered many
hours every week.

Family and friends were very important to Jim, and he will
always be remembered for sharing his love and himself with others.

Survivors include his wife, Loraine Sundberg of Mason City;
one daughter, Lu Erlandson and her husband, Jay, of Albert City;
two sons, Dave Sundberg and his wife, Marcia, of New Castle,
Del., and Paul Sundberg of Davenport; three granddaughters, Niki,
Kali and Alicia Erlandson, all of Albert City; one brother,
Bud Sundberg and his wife, Pat, of Hopkins, Minn.; and a host of
relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.

Dennis was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Algona, a son of Wilbert West and
Ruth West (nee) Penton.  He graduated from Mason City High School
in 1963.

He was united in marriage with Julie Kunz on Oct. 17, 1964,
at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley.  The couple lived in Wesley
for 27 years before moving to Nora Springs in 1991.  In June
of 1995 they moved to Mason City.

He was employed at Snap On Tools in Algona, Klein Farm Supply
in Algona and the Wesley Lumber Co.  In July, 1983, he began
work with the Eaton Corporation in Belmond.

Dennis's hobbies included camping and traveling in his motor
home, as well as collecting model cars.  He was a member of A.A.
and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.

He is survived by his wife, Julie, of Mason City; a son,
Dan West, of Algona; a daughter, Angie West, of Waterloo; five sisters,
Mary Becker and her husband, Bob,  of Wesley, Marlys Harris and
her husband, Del, of Stigler, Okla., Ellen Peterson and her special
friend, Ray Momyer, of Mason City, Robyn Horswell and her husband,
Steve, of Lake Mills, and Cindy West of Mason City; a brother,
Gary West and his wife, Eileen, of Mason City; his mother-in-law,
Erma Kunz of Wesley; a brother-in-law, William Kunz of Cedar

with the Rev. Carl P. Cosaert officiating.

Dean Earl Shoars and Helen Shoars (nee) Flugge.  He spent most of his
childhood in the Grafton area and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in
1965.  He entered the United States Navy in 1966 and served in
Vietnam as an ASE-3.

After his discharge, he returned to Iowa and married
Dorothy E. Balsley on April 22, 1972, at St. John's Lutheran Church,
rural Grafton.  In 1974, the couple moved to an acreage in rural
Kensett.

He began self-employment as a carpenter and painter.  From 1988-91
he worked as a literature evangelist in the field.  In October,
1993, he also went to work for Christian Record Services as an
area representative.

Smith loved to help others and enjoyed visiting with people.

He was an elder, head deacon and adult Sabbath school teacher
at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Albert Lea, Minn.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Kensett; two sons,
Smith Anthony Shoars and Matthew Taylor Shoars, both of Kensett; his
parents, Dean E. and Helen N. Shoars of Grafton; two sisters,
Meri Harris and her husband, Fred, of Clarks Grove, Minn., and
Ruth A. Shoars of Webster City; four brothers, Dean A. Shoars
and his wife, Sue, of Waverly, Mark D. Shoars and his wife, Carol,
of Waterloo, Scott S. Shoars and his wife, Corrine, of St. Ansgar,
and Eric J. Shoars of Austin, Minn.

Isabel Hobson
HAMPTON

     Isabel Hobson, 96, of Hampton, died Sunday (Oct. 29, 1995)
at the Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Congregational
United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Greg Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home.

Isabel Hobson was born Nov. 17, 1898, in Hampton.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Winifred Hobson of San
Antionio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Elvine Mortensen
CLEAR LAKE

     Elvine Mortensen, 95, of Clear Lake, died Sunday (Oct. 29, 1995)
at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the
Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Larry Yeoman
officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.

The family suggests memorials be given in her name.

Elvine Mortensen was born April 4, 1900, in Mookjar Brovst Station,
Denmark.

Survivors include two nieces, May Standley of Florida and
Viola McCoy of Winterset.

Willis E. Ballard
MASON CITY

     Willis E. Ballard, 75, of 1038 17th St. N.E., died Sunday (Oct.
29, 1995) at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity
Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. John
``Jack'' Gannett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park
Cemetery with full military rites by the Mason City Veterans
Memorial Association.

Memorials may be given to the Willis E. Ballard Memorial Fund.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to
services at the church.

Willis E. Ballard was born July 21, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo.,
the son of Ambrose Ballard and Alma (nee) Doyle Ballard.

Willis moved to Mason City at an early age and attended schools
in Mason City.

In 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in
World War II. He was discharged in 1945.

Willis married Edith L. (nee) Opkis on Dec. 18, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Mason City. He worked over 30 years for different glass
companies in the Mason City area.

In the early 1970s Willis worked at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse
as a custodian.

Willis enjoyed helping others whenever he could, by fixing radios,
TVs, helping with electrical, plumbing work and was a self-taught
locksmith.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW and the American
Legion.

 Survivors include his wife, Edith L. Ballard of Mason City;
one son, Dale Ballard and his wife, Verna, of Alger, Wash.; one
sister, Jennie Lupereni of Redding, Calif.; three grandchildren,
Jennifer DeKruif, Michelle McKay and her husband, Mark, and
Keith Harbison; three great-grandchildren, Cameron DeKruif,
Lindsey Jo McKay and Whitney McKay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one
sister.

Evelyn Kruse
MASON CITY

     Evelyn Kruse, 79, of 1205 Third St. S.W., died Sunday (Oct.
29, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter
Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Joseph A. Miller officiating.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Evelyn Kruse was born on April 22, 1916, on a farm outside of
Thornton, the daughter of Aley Kottman and Hanna (nee) Johansen Kottman.

She attended country school and graduated from the Sheffield
School system.

She worked in Des Moines until she was married to Wilbert Kruse
in her parents' home on April 22, 1937.

They made their home farming southeast of Sheffield for seven
years, moving to a farm west of Hampton for three years, before
buying a farm west of Rockwell.

In 1970, they sold their farm and moved to Mason City.

Evelyn enjoyed doing needle work in her spare time.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Rockwell.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbert Kruse of Mason City;
two daughters, Joan Werstein and her husband, Don, of Clear Lake,
and Ethel Jean Olmsted and her husband, Douglas, of Camanche;
four grandchildren, Mark and Kevin Werstein and Jeffrey and Deborah
Olmsted; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Alicia Olmsted
and Casey Werstein; one sister, Cora Kottmann of Mason City,
and James Kottman of Thornton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

     Seth Gregory Roam, 1-month old infant son of Byron Roam and
Darla Roam, of Hampton, died Sunday (Oct. 29, 1995) at the University
Hospitals, Iowa City.

Seth Gregory Roam was born Sept. 28, 1995, in Iowa City, to
Byron and Darla (nee) Welsher Roam.

Donald Roam and Jean Roam of Colfax; and maternal grandparents,

Clair (Sr.) Clay
CHARLES CITY 

     Clair Clay Sr., 68, of 1415 Gilbert St., died Saturday (Oct.
28, 1995) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser
Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. A.C. Wegner Jr.
of the Faith Bible Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Hillside
Cemetery at Marble Rock.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m.
Thursday until time of service.

Clair Eugene Clay was born Dec. 21, 1926, near Marble Rock,
the son of Gale Clay and Catherine Clay (nee) Flynn.

He attended school at Marble Rock and Charles City. On March
23, 1944, he was united in marriage to Doris Stillions. They
later divorced.

He owned and operated the Clair Clay Tree Service for 35 years.
He worked for American Cyanamid for 10 years. He also worked
for Bissonette's car dealership.

He loved fishing, camping, collecting pictures and newspaper
clippings. He loved making handmade leather crafts.

His greatest passion, the last couple of years was sitting in
front of his cabin waving at friends as they drove by, who would
often return and chat with him a while and sometimes he would
get in his car and go to the gas station to sit and have coffee
and chat with friends.

 Living family members include six sons, Roger Clay and his
wife, Pam, of Olympia, Wash.; David Clay and his wife, Sharon,
of Floyd; Steve Clay and his wife, Linda, of Charles City; Clair
Clay Jr., Greg Clay and Ronald Clay, all of Charles City; five
daughters,  Edna and Robert White of Floyd, Marian Linde,
JoAnn Bailey, Kathy and Tom White, and Patricia and Bill Kellogg, all
of Charles City; the mother of his children and close friend,
Doris (Clay Wall); and a brother, Emmet Clay of Duncombe; 61
grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers
and one grandson.

Tammy Rae Kunzman
MASON CITY

     Tammy Rae Kunzman, 32, of 681 13th St. S.E., died Friday, (Oct.
27, 1995) at her home of natural causes.

Kunzman Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday
at the Riverside Church, 527 N. Kentucky Ave., with the Rev.
Eugene Wolfley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to
services at the church on Wednesday.

Tammy was born June 17, 1963, in Mason City, the daughter of
Donnie D. Kunzman and Shirley Kunzman (nee) Koehler.

She attended school at Rockwell-Swaledale. She was a former
4-H member.

She dearly loved her daughter, and loved children and loved
to babysit.

Tammy also enjoyed doing crafts and loved animals.

Survivors include her fiance, William G. Miller of Mason City;
one daughter, Tiffany Marie Miller of Mason City; her parents,
Donnie and Phyllis Kunzman of Mason City; sisters, Cindy Siefken
and her husband, Donnie, of Kennewick, Wash.; Jennifer Mitchell
and her husband, Ed, of Kennewick, Wash., and Sandra Smith and
her husband, Steve, of Kennewick, Wash.; brothers, Kurt Kunzman
of Mason City, and Kevin Kunzman and his wife, Lori, of Mason
City; nieces and nephews, Becky and Amy Siefken of Kennewick,
Wash., Casey Klunder of Kennewick, Wash., Hanna Kunzman of Mason
City, and Ben and Amanda Smith of Kennewick, Wash.; a special
aunt, Betty Lange of Garner; and numerous other aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents.
