George L. Hofbauer
BUFFALO CENTER  

     George L. Hofbauer, 81, of Buffalo Center, died Monday (Oct.
2, 1995) at his home.

Funeral services  will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Congregational
Church, with the Rev. Jim Sullivan and the Rev. Bill Peake officiating.
Burial will be in Olean Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.  Wednesday at Winter Funeral
Home and one hour before at the church.

George L. Hofbauer was born Dec. 2, 1913, at Buffalo Center.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hofbauer of Buffalo Center;
two daughters, Shirley Furst of Buffalo Center and Judy Boeckholt
of Buffalo Center; four sons, Forrest of Estherville; Ronald
of Donnallson; James of Buffalo Center, and Keith of Titonka;
four sisters, Bertha Schutter of Buffalo Center; Ruth Harris
of Yuma, Ariz.; Dorothy Weaver of Buffalo Center and Marjorie Roths 
of Garner; four brothers, Henry of Buffalo Center; John
of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; Howard of Ventura; and Donald of
Leland; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three sisters
and one brother.

Margaret Riley Brown
VENICE, Fla. 

     Graveside services for Margaret Riley Brown will be held  11
a.m. Friday (Oct. 6, 1995) at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City,
Iowa.

 Margaret Riley Brown, 92, of Venice, died Wednesday (Aug. 30,
1995) in Venice.

Edwin Merle Berry
EMMONS, Minn.  

     Edwin Merle Berry, 76, of Emmons, died Monday (Oct. 2, 1995)
at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Emmons
Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating.  Burial
will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt
Funeral Home, Lake Mills, Iowa, and one hour prior to services
at the church.

Edwin Merle Berry was born May 10, 1919, near Joice, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Muriel Berry of Emmons; four children,
Carole Edwin of Faribault; Patty Opdahl of Corvallis, Ore.;
Dennis Berry of Northfield, and Rella Loyd of Walters; and 14
grandchildren; 

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one
great-granddaughter.

Margaret Tuchek Johnson Giesen
MASON CITY  

     Margaret Tuchek Johnson Giesen, 85, of Mason City, died Friday
(Aug. 11, 1995) of natural causes at the residence of her daughter,
Ann Zeleznock, in York, Pa. The body was cremated.
     
A Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries
officiating. Inurnment will take place at Elmwood St. Joseph
Cemetery.

The family will greet friends after 6:30 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer
Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., where there will be a 7
p.m. Scriptural prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St.
Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa 50401 or to Hospice
of North Iowa, 232 Second St. S.E., Mason City, Iowa 50401.

Margaret Giesen was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Mason City. She was
a daughter of the late John A. Johnson and Mary Tuchek Johnson. 
Mrs. Giesen was one of nine brothers and sisters.

She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Mason City, where
she was a member of the debate club and secretary and treasurer
of her class.

After graduation she attended Hamilton Business College in Mason
City.

She was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and
the First National Bank, both of Mason City.

She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason
City, and was active in St. Catherine's Circle, the Legion of
Mary Guild and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Her favorite pastimes were playing bridge, reading, gardening
and following the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, 
Mrs. Thomas C. (Karen Marie) Gorman of Old Greenwich, Conn.; 
Mrs. John (Ann Marie) Zeleznock of York, Pa., and 
Mrs. J. Michael (Mary Margaret) Mahin of Alamo,
Calif.; three granddaughters, Jennifer Gorman Pinkas of Salt
Lake City, Utah, and Kathryn Marie Zeleznock and 
Karen Marie Zeleznock, both of York, Pa.; four grandsons, 
James Gorman of Boston, Mass.; Mark Donald Zeleznock of 
Pasadena, Calif.; and John Mahin and Ryan Mahin, both of Alamo, 
Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Mace of Fort Dodge; and 
one son-in-law, Gene Vajgert of Lake Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Giesen;
and her daughter, Jean Marie Vajgert, both of whom died in 1994.

Georgia M. Zimmerman
SHEFFIELD  

     Georgia M. Zimmerman, 85, of South Elgin, Ill., formerly of
Sheffield, died Sept. 27, 1995, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin, Ill.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Beard officiating.
 Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.  Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield,
is in charge of the arrangements.

Georgia M. Tanner was born Oct. 7, 1909, the daughter of William Tanner
and Etta Tanner (nee) Augur at Rockwell. She graduated from Rockwell
High School in 1927.  She married George T. Zimmerman on June
28, 1928.  Three children were born to this union, 
Gordon T. Zimmerman of Columbia, Mo.; Jack J. Zimmerman of
Sheffield and Georgann M. Turner of Elk Grove Village, Ill.  
While living in Sheffield, Georgia was very active in the First 
Methodist Church and Business Professional Woman's Club.  
She and her husband ran Cedar Valley Produce for many years, and 
then owned their own business, Southside Produce.

Georgia is survived by three children, nine grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George T.
Zimmerman; and one brother, Gordon Tanner.

Charles A. Brandau
ROCKFORD 

     Charles A. Brandau, 18, of Rockford, died Monday (Oct. 2, 1995)
near Rockford.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. today at the Eden Presbyterian
Church, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial will be
in the Eden Presbyterian Cemetery, north of Rudd.

Schumburg Funeral Home, Rockford, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles was born June 18, 1977, at Osage.

Survivors include his mother, Gayle Uker of Rockford; his father,
Craig Brandau of Mason City; a brother, Bryan Brandau of Mason
City; a half sister, Dianne Brandau of Marble Rock; a stepsister,
Roni Brown; a stepbrother, Jason Brown; and his grandmothers,
Rita Grauerholz of Ashland, Neb., and Joan D. Brandau of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers.

Alfred R. Malone
FALMOUTH, Mass. 

     The Rev. Dr. Alfred R. Malone, 70, of Fallmouth, Mass., died
Saturday (Sept. 30, 1995) at his home. 

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m.  Friday, Oct. 6,
at the Church of the Messiah Woods Hole.

Chapman, Cole, and Gleason Funeral Home, Falmouth, Mass., is
in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Cape Cod Council
of Churches, the Falmouth Service Center, the Samaritans, Oxfam,
or the Church of the Messiah.

A Massachusetts native, he held undergraduate and graduate degrees
from Boston University and Andover Newton Theological School.

An Episcopal priest, he served several churhes in the Midwest,
the last one being St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bettendorf,
Iowa, where he was the rector for 10 years.

He was rector at St. John's Episcopal Church, Mason City, Iowa,
from 1952 to 1963.

He was instrumental in organizing the Mason City Council of
Churches.

He was also a psychotherapist and had practiced in Falmouth
since 1973.

He served as interim rector of the Church of Messiah in 1989
and was a frequent guest preacher in various churches in the
community.

His great concern always was for people in need, and he devoted
much of his life to causes which might alleviate their suffering.

During the racial struggle in the 1960s, he helped take supplies
to the blacks in Selma.

He helped found and was past president of the Samaritans and
the Falmouth Service Center. He served on the Falmouth Human
Services Committee.

He was a strong believer in the larger religious community and
served on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Council
of Churches, the Ecumenical Committee of the Episcopal Diocese
of Massachusetts, the Falmouth Clergy Association and the Board
of Directors of the Cape Cod Council of Churches of which he
was also a past president.

In addition to his wife, Courtney, he leaves his daughters,
Donna Evans, Kathleen Audis, and Sherri Warner of Humboldt, Ariz.,
and Bettendorf, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He also leaves his stepchildren, Courtney Laird, Richard Stibolt,
and Katherine Kingston of Los Altos, Calif., San Francisco, Calif.
and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and four stepgrandchildren; and
two brothers, Robert and Maurice Malone.

Martha J. Christensen
MASON CITY 

Martha J. Christensen, 67, of 13 Bunker Hill Square,  died
Monday (Oct. 2, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity
Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth
Hatland officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Graceland Cemetery, Sioux
City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to
services at the church.

Memorials may be given to Lutheran Social Services in memory
of Martha J. Christensen.

Martha J. Christensen was born Aug. 28, 1928, at Sioux City,
the daughter of Ludwig Knutson and Iva May (Kelly) Knutson.

She attended Central High School in Sioux City.

Martha married R.J. Christensen on May 20, 1950 ,at St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Mr. and Mrs. Christensen moved to Mason City in 1965.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Rockford
Golf Club.

Survivors include her husband, R.J. Christensen of Mason City;
a son, Eric J. Christensen and his wife, Sandra Christensen 
of Minnetonka, Minn.; one daughter, Carol A. and her husband, 
Kenneth Kasten of Maple Grove, Minn.; a son, Paul M. and wife, 
Cheryl Christensen of Greene; brothers, Frank Knutson 
of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gordon Knutson of Phoenix, Ariz.; 
grandchildren, Tyler, Zachary and Jason Christensen, 
Matthew Kasten, Dylan, Ashley and Betsy Christensen; and 
several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents one brother, Charles.

     Edith B. Olson, 82, of Britt, died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 1995)
at Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday at Cataldo Funeral
Home in Britt with the Rev. James Mattson officiating.  Burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Cataldo Funeral
Home, Britt.

Edith Blanche Olson was born Aug. 4, 1913 in Mason City.

She is survived by her sisters, Hildur Trulson of Britt, 
Ebba Rothermel of Menlo Park, Calif., and 
Genevieve ``Gen'' Allen of Duluth, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Harold Irvin Johnson
RAKE 

     Harold I. Johnson, 95, of Rake, died Tues. (Oct. 3, 1995) at
Timely Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo Center.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran
Church, with the Rev. Edwin Silrum officiating. Burial will be
in East Cemetery, Rake.

Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center is in charge of arrangements.

Harold was born Nov. 11, 1899 near Rake.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth and three sons:  Gene of Alamo,
Texas, Robert of rural Rake, and Donald of Beaverton, Oregon;
and nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, five
sisters, and one granddaughter.

Dr. Maurice Patrick Welsh
NORTHWOOD 

     Dr. Maurice Patrick Welsh, 72, of Northwood, died Wednesday
(Oct. 4, 1995)at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
     
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Manly with Father Thomas McAndrew and
Deacon Bob Mega of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, and
Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka of St. Patrick's Catholic Church
in Clear Lake, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery
in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today with a public
rosary at 7 p.m. at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 llth Street
South, Northwood.

The family of Dr. Maurice Patrick Welsh has requested that memorial
contributions be made to the charity of one's choice or the Catholic
Relief Services in his memory.

Maurice Patrick Welsh was born on April 27, 1923, the son of
William Edward Welsh and Mary A. (Collins) Welsh in Rockwell City,
the third of seven children.

His parents farmed in the Rockwell City, Lake City, and Morland
areas where he attended country schools.

When he was 13, the family moved to Marshalltown where he graduated
from St. Mary's High School in 1942, and enlisted in the service.
He spent nearly three years in the United States Air Force flying
33 missions into Germany as a gunner on a B-24 bomber with the
68th bomber squadron of the 8th Air Force. After his honorable
discharge, he worked for a food product company in Marshalltown.

Before entering Palmer College in 1949, he was a salesman.

In 1952, he graduated with a Doctorate of Chiropractic from
Palmer College.

He was united in marriage to Lois Jean Robb on Dec. 27, 1951
in Marshalltown, and moved to Northwood in April 1953, where
he opened his Chiropractic office and continued his practice
until his death.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly,
where he served as a member of the board of education as well
as the parish council. He also was a member of the Iowa Chiropractic
Society, American Chiropractic Association, Knights of Columbus
in Mason City, American Legion and Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post
#6779, in Northwood, Northwood Country Club, and former member
of Lions International.

Dr. Welsh was dedicated to his chiropractic profession having
practiced in Northwood 42 years. He enjoyed his work, along with
gardening, golfing, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lois Welsh of Northwood;
and his four children and their spouses, Crissy Wells and her
husband, Dr. Laurence Wells of Peoria, Ariz., Dr. John Welsh
and his wife, Carol Welsh of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Dr. Gayle King
and her husband, Dr. Robert  King of Green Valley, Ariz., and
Dr. James Welsh and his wife, Laurie of Northwood. His eight
grandchildren include Maurissa Wells, Lauren Wells, Nicole Welsh,
Roslyn Welsh, Caitlin King, Robert King Jr., Ryan Patrick King,
and Kelli Welsh. He is also survived by sisters, Bernadette Klatt
and her husband, Marvin of Waterloo, and Lucille Tvedt and her
husband, Robert of Montour, Iowa; and brothers, Leo Vernon Welsh
and his wife, Carol of Traer, Iowa, and Eugene Welsh and his
wife, Barbara of Grand Junction, Colo., as well as other relatives
and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Schaefer;
and one brother, Joseph Welsh.

Leonard Marvin Anderson
BELMOND 

     Leonard Marvin Anderson, 66, of Belmond, died Wednesday (Oct.
4, 1995) at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9 a.m. Saturday at St.
Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Father Tom Currier and Deacon
Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Cemetery,
Goodell.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Tenold Funral Home,
Belmond, with a rosary at 2:30 p.m. by the Rosary Society and
Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

Leonard Marvin Anderson, the son of Arthur V. Anderson and 
Mary Elizabeth Goodridge Anderson, was born Nov. 26, 1928 at
Goodell, Iowa.

He graduated from Klemme High School in 1946.

He was united in marriage to Marlyn Dorr on April 29, 1950,
at St. Francis Zavier Church, Belmond.

They lived north of Goodell, where Leonard farmed and was a
self-employed carpenter.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, and spoiling his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Marlyn of Goodell; daughters, 
Mary Ellen Mason and her husband, Wayne, of Goodell, Evelyn Nolte
of Goodell, Theresa Smith and her husband, Dan, of Minden, Neb.,
and Annette Schallert and her husband, Miles of Owatonna, Minn.;
sons, Duane Anderson and his wife, Deb, of Iowa City, 
Michael Anderson and his wife, Kathy of New Hampton, Terry Anderson
and his wife, Bonnie of Goodell, and Tony Anderson and his fiance,
Randi Burt of Goodell; grandchildren, Walt Mason and his wife,
Christy and great-grandchild, Maicie Mason; Larinda and Timothy
Mongan, Jennifer Mason and her fiance, Scot Peil, Jamie Mason,
Mike Anderson, Tennille Anderson, Tiffany Anderson, Autumn Anderson,
Helen Nolte, Travis Nolte, Christopher Nolte, Nicholas Smith,
and Duane Anderson; sisters, Loretta Smith and her husband, Don
of Belmond; Marian Kinseth and her husband, Roland of Belmond,
Harriett Halfpop and her husband Bernard of Fairmont, Minn.;
brothers, Clifford Anderson of Klemme; Harold Anderson and his
wife, Bonnie of Goodell; and sister-in-law, Mildred Anderson
of Clarion.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Harry, Andrew,
and Harvey; sister, Mary; and a grandson, Joshua Anderson.

Alice M. Beresford
KANAWHA 

     Alice M. Beresford, 80, of Kanawha, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 1995)
in Kanawha.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Mat Miller officiating.  Burial
will be in Buffalo Twp. Cemetery, Titonka.

Alice was born Jan. 12, 1915, at Titonka. 

Survivors include one son, Merle Beresford of Placerville,
Calif.; one sister, Emma Smith, Algona; one brother, Leo Richter.
One grandchild, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother.

Warren `Pete' Hulshizer
NORTHWOOD 

     Warren `Pete' Hulshizer, 87, of Northwood, passed away Wednesday
evening (Oct. 4, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East,
Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Deer Creek
Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathryn Larson officiating.
Burial will be in Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Carpenter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Schroeder & Sites
Funeral Home, U.S. Highway 65 South, Northwood.

Warren was born April 3, 1908 to Fred Hulshizer and 
Rosa Aderhold Hulshizer in Reinbeck, Grundy County, Iowa.

He went to schools in Thornton, Iowa and #3 rural school in
Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa. He graduated from Otranto
High School in May of 1926.

Warren rode his pony 14 miles every day so he could go to high
school in Otranto. He enjoyed being in class plays, spirituals
and dramas.

He was rightfully proud of the fact that he drove to Waverly,
Iowa alone with the information and data to have the first annual
published from Otranto High School.

He married Gladys Gordon on Dec. 18, 1929, at Deer Creek Lutheran
Church, where he was also baptized and confirmed. Two children
were born to them, Marvyl Hulshizer, St. Ansgar, Iowa and 
Marvin Hulshizer, Georgetown, Texas.

Warren and his wife farmed on the same farm in Deer Creek Township
for 50 years. After he quit farming on his own, he worked as
a hired hand for several farmers, as he truly enjoyed the farm.

They moved to a house in Northwood in March of 1980. Then in
May of 1993 they sold their house and moved into the Maple Court
Apartments, part of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood,
their present residence.

Warren and his wife have been longtime devoted and faithful
volunteers in the Lutheran Retirement Home and the Good Samaritan
Center in St. Ansgar. They have been constant companions to many,
many ailing and failing individuals.

They were avid card players with many friends and relatives
and when alone, they played Scrabble.

Warren leaves to mourn, his wife, Gladys; a daughter Marvyl
and her husband, George Oakland; a son, Marvin and his wife,
Sandra (Dohler) Hulshizer; four grandchildren, Judy Shirley and
her husband, Joe of Hudson, Iowa; Gary and his wife Julie (Young)
Oakland of rural St. Ansgar; Scot and Monica Hulshizer of Georgetown,
Texas; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Cody, Sadie Mae Oakland,
Joshua Warren and Jenna Rae Shirley; four brothers, Fritz of
Northwood, Sylvester and his wife, Florence of Sun Prairie, Wis.,
Harold and his wife, Dorothy of Maustin, Wis., and Dale and his
wife, Lois of St. Charles, Minn.; and one sister, Esther Kruse,
a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Herbert
and Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials to the Deer Creek Lutheran Church
Building Fund.

Georgiana M. Ross
CHARLES CITY 

     Georgiana M. Ross, 88, of Charles City, died Wednesday (Oct.
4, 1995) at Charles City.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Charles City.  The Revs. Dennis D. Niezwaag
and Karen Rask-Behling will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Charles City.  Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, Charles
City, is in charge of arrangements.

Georgiana M. Ross was born May 21, 1907, in Oelwein.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn, of Chatsworth, Calif.;
three brothers, Maurice Ingersoll of Gig Harbor, Wash., and 
Lewis and Archie Ingersoll, both of Charles City; two sisters, 
Dorothy Goecken of Charles Ciy and Jeanne Ingersoll of Phoenix, Ariz.,
and two step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Mary Ellen Stading
KENSETT 

     Mary Ellen Stading, 57, of Kensett, died Tuesday (Oct. 3, 1995)
at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
                                
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Manly, with Father Thomas McAndrew and Deacon
Bob Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery,
Manly.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder and
Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, with a 7 p.m.
rosary.

Mary was born Oct. 6, 1937, to Hans Enar Petersen and 
Johanna Trapp Petersen in Sioux City.

She graduated from Heelan High School in Sioux City in May
of 1956.

She married Thomas Harold Stading on June 30, 1956, at St. Bonniface
in Sioux City. They were the parents of six children.

He preceded her in death on July 7, 1991.

Mary enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Stading worked at the Welsh Chiropractic Center in Northwood.

Mary is survived by her mother, Johanna Petersen of Sioux City;
three daughters, Victoria and her husband, Jerry Nielsen of Britt;
Laurie and her husband, Daniel Hegtvedt of Mason City; Lisa and
her husband, Jeffery Schultz of Mason City; three sons, 
William Stading and his wife, Brenda of Kensett, Ben Stading and
his wife, Tammy of Kansas City, Mo., and Kenneth Stading and his
wife, Kelly Wood, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren,
Matthew and Tyler Stading, Albert and Rosemary Nielsen, Kyle,
Kristen and Katlyn Hegtvedt, Blake and Brock Schultz, Austin,
Joseph and Jeana Stading; four sisters, Lorraine and her husband,
William Mahaffy of Sioux City; Dorothy and her husband, Dan Walters
of Sioux City; Lois and her husband, John Ward of Sioux City,
Joyce and her husband, Jerry Stilwell of Lawton; four brothers,
Robert Petersen and his wife, Cora of Sioux City, James Petersen
and his wife, Carol of Sioux City, Eddie Petersen and his wife,
Jean of Tucson, Ariz., Don Petersen and his wife, Norma of Sioux
City; and Gary Petersen and his wife, Gloria of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hans Petersen; her
husband, Thomas H. Stading; one grandchild, Thomas H. Stading
II; and one brother, Ronald Petersen.

     Etta R. Snittjer, 88, of Allison, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 1995)
at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Allison United
Church of Christ with burial in the Aplington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home, Allison.

Mrs. Snittjer was born June 29, 1907, in Aredale.

She is survived by two sons, Will, of Watertown, S.D., and

Norman Francis Smith
ABERDEEN, S.D. 

     Norman F. Smith, 63, of Aberdeen, formerly of Kensett, died
Wednesday (Oct. 4, 1995) at his home of cnacer. Norm was diagnosed
with cancer in August of 1995.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Miller-Huebel
Funral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, S.D., with the Rev.
Gerold Sevig of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial
will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen, with military graveside
services by Signey L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen.

Norman Francis Smith was born Aug. 25, 1932 to Francis Smith and
Dorothy Sherwood Smith in Iowa City, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn J. Smith of Aberdeen; three
sons, Wayne Smith of Mason City; Dale Smith of Christianburg,
Va., and Jeff Smith of Washington; one daughter, Cheryl Smith
of Rhinelander, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Becky Smith of Aberdeen;
two sisters, Esther Sundberg of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Dorothy Smith
of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, Joshua Smith of Denver,
Colo., Nicholas and Nichole Olson of Northwood, Brady Smith of
Aberdeen, and Drew Schrock of Rhinelander, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry M. Smith
on July 13, 1995; his mother-in-law, Rosella Barber; and one
brother-in-law, Charles Taylor.

     Esther A. Draeger, 83, of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 1995)
at the Faith Home, Osage.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Trinity
Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Chris F. Gugel officiating. Burial
will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.

Esther A. Draeger was born Oct. 26, 1911 on the family farm
north of Osage.

Survivors include two nieces, Linda Heller of Riceville and
Dorothy Sorenson of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and
two sisters.

GARNER 

     Memorial services will be held for Marie McDonald, 103, of
Garner, at 1:30 p.m. today, at the United Methodist Church, Garner,

Marie McDonald died Thursday (Sept. 21, 1995) at the Concord
Care Center.

Dennis John Eckhoff
HUMBOLDT  

     Dennis J. Eckhoff, 50, of Humboldt, died Friday (Oct. 6, 1995)
at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, with the Rev. Douglas
Haugen of St. John Lutheran Church, Humboldt, officiating.  He
will be assisted by the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag, senior pastor,
in Charles City.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles
City with military honors conducted at graveside by the Charles
City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Hauser Funeral Home,
1205 S. Main St., Charles City; and from 9 a.m. until time of
service Monday at the church.

Dennis John Eckhoff was born May 23, 1945, at Charles City,
the son of John and Mary Aird Eckhoff.  He attended and graduated
from Greene High School.  He attended Mason City Junior College
and graduated from Westmar College and received a master's degree
from Eastern University, Portales, N.M.  He loved football and
played in high school and college.  He served in the Army during
the Vietnam War and then was a highly successful football coach
at West Union from 1974-1980.  He also taught industrial arts
at West Union.  He suffered a heart attack in 1986 which forced
him to quit coaching football.  He was employed for the past
seven years by the Gunder's Church Furniture of Dakota City,
as a sales representative.

He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Living family members include his wife, Julie Eckhoff of Humboldt;
a daughter, Kristy Eckhoff, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sons, 
Brad Eckhoff, Marcus, and Tom Eckhoff, at home; his parents, 
John and Mary Eckhoff,  Charles City; and a sister, Sandie Riden,
Charles City.

MASON CITY  

     Florence I. Sutton, 86, of 403 1/2 N. Federal Ave., died Thursday
(Oct. 5, 1995) at home.
     
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hogan
Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Sharon
Betsworth of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial
will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.

Florence I. Sutton was born Nov. 16, 1908, in Plymouth, daughter
of Frank and Theresa (Cummings) Schultz.

She married Rueben R. ``Pete'' Sutton in  1928.

Florence grew up in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth High
School.

She enjoyed quilting, reading, crocheting and watching TV sports.

She was a member of the Degree of Honor, Royal Neighbors, and
Ladies of the Moose.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon J. Sutton of Mason
City, Audrey B. Earls of Britt, and Mary L. Radcliff of Mason
City; two sons, Roger C. Sutton and his wife, Virginia of Mason
City, and Pastor Dick Sutton and his wife, Florence of Nora 
Springs; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law,
Alta Mae Sutton of Nora Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rueben
in 1979; and two brothers, Kenneth and Harold Schultz.

     Charlette L. Richmond, 70, of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 5,
1995) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Charlette L. Richmond was born Aug. 28, 1925 in Plainfield,
Iowa.

Survivors will include her husband, Howard of Osage; three sons,

Ill.; two sisters, Dorothy Smith of Cedar Falls and 
Marjorie Stufflebeam of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Raymond Shadboldt
of Oceanside, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Kenneth Everett Potter was born Nov. 10, 1931, in rural Buffalo
Center.
