Amy Walling
ORCHARD 

     Amy Walling, 92, of Osage, formerly of Orchard, died Thursday
(Oct. 5, 1995) at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday at the Orchard Congregational
Church, U.C.C. with the Rev. William Griffee officiating. Burial
will be in the Orchard Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral
Home, Osage.

Amy Walling was born April 27, 1903 in Rockwell.

Survivors include one son, Darold Walling of Lucan, Minn.; one
brother, Martin Wetter of Osage; four grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons,
three sisters, and five brothers.

Pearl (Clausen) Power
CHARLES CITY  

     Pearl (Clausen) Power, 70, of Charles City, died Thursday (Oct.
5, 1995) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at
United Methodist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Clark Christian
officiating.  Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Champion
Funeral Home, Osage.

Pearl Power was born Nov. 15, 1924, near Ricevlle.

Survivors include five daughters, Dorothy Bohneman, Rockford,
Minn., Connie Damjanovic, St. Michael, Minn., Cynthia Damjanovic,
Charles City, Julie Huffman, Little Cedar, and Angela Cline,
St. Michael, Minn.; one son, Charles Power, St. Ansgar; three
sisters, Esther Walker, Emily, Minn., Ruby Harold, Modesto, Calif.,
and Mary Weed, Taylorville, Ill.; three brothers, Leo Clausen,
Osage, Clarence Clausen, St. Ansgar, and Alfred Clausen, Coggin;
and 13 grandchildren and five great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul; one
brother, three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Nettie I. Etherington
ALGONA  

     Nettie I. Etherington, 80, of Algona, died Saturday (Oct. 7,
1995) at Heritage Home, Bancroft.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at First
Presbyterian Church, Algona, with tbhe Rev. Donald Seeger officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf
Funeral Home, Algona.

Nettie I. Etherington was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Kossuth County.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Etherington, Algona;
one daughter, Carole Sue Giddings, Scurry, Texas; three sons,
James Etherington, Rio Rancho, N.M., Gerald Etherington, McKinney,
Texas, and Jason Etherington, Algona; two sisters, Mary Worley,
Cleburne, Texas, and Harriett Bullock, Algona; one brother, 
Donald Lee Grubb, Faribault, Minn.; and 14 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.

Frances G. Amos
CLEAR LAKE 

     Frances G. Amos, 80, of Clear Lake, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 1995),
at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Patrick's
Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka
officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason
City.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.  A public scriptural prayer service
will be held at 7 p.m.

Frances G. Amos was born April 11, 1915, in Emmetsburg, the
daughter of Robert and Katherine (Jackman) Laughlin.  She attended
Emmetsburg Grade School and graduated from Holy Family High School
in 1932.  She also attended and graduated from Mason City Junior
College in 1934.  She was united in marriage to Joseph Burton Amos
on Oct. 4, 1936.  He was killed in action in the Battle
for Iwo Jima in 1945.

She was a long time resident of Mason City, moving to Clear
Lake in 1960, where she enjoyed antique hunting with her special
sister-in-law, Arlene (Jacobson) Laughlin.  She also loved the
lake and the activities there and she was an avid fishing enthusiast.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.

Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Kathryn "Kate" Quinn
and her husband, David, Grayslake, Ill.; a son, John Amos and
his wife, Mary, Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Matthew Justin
Amos, Clear Lake, Jennifer Sarah Ingersoll, Edwards Air Force
Base, Calif., and David Sullivan Quinn, Lake Villa, Ill.; one
great-grandson, Mark Allen Ingersoll; one sister, Margaret Morgan
and her husband, John, Austin, Minn.; one brother, Patrick Laughlin,
Webster City; three sisters-in-law, Doris, Hazel and Arlene Laughlin;
as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents;
two sisters, Cassie Essley and Virginia Scott; and three brothers,
Robert, John, and Jerry Laughlin.

Joe Shima
MASON CITY  

     Joe Shima, 85, of 807 11th St. N.E., died Friday (Oct. 6, 1995)
at home.
     
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick
J. Wood officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in memory
of Joe Shima.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.; and one hour prior to
service time Tuesday at the church.

Joe Shima was born June 11, 1910, at Austin, Minn., the son
of John and Mary (Hrach) Shima.  The family moved to Mason City
when Joe was two years old and he attended Mason City schools.
 He married Freda Legler on Sept. 23, 1933, at Des Moines.  He
was an assistant foreman at Jacob E. Decker and Sons (Armour
Co.), working for 44 years and retiring in 1972.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Age Wise and loved
to hunt and fish making many trips to Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota
and Canada.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Jean Paulson and husband, Thomas
Paulson, Lake Elmo, Minn.; a grandson, Bill Paulson,  Lake, Elmo,
Minn.; two sisters, Rose Kent, Glendale, Calif., and Marie Shima,
Mason City; and one brother, John Shima, Thompson Falls, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Freda; two sisters,
Evelyn and Agnes; two brothers, Frank and Jimmy; and one grandson,
Erik.

Clarence `Red' Clausen
MASON CITY  

     Clarence ``Red'' Clausen, of 720 N. Federal Ave., died Friday
(Oct. 6, 1995) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  ``Red''
had attained the age of 73 years, six months and 14 days.

Funeral services and remembrance of Clarence's life will be
held at 1:30 p.m. today, at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral
Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E.  Officiating will be the Rev. Vince
Flippo of the First Church of the Nazarene.  Interment will be
at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery where full military honors will
be performed by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider
donations to Hospice of North Iowa who took such good care of ``Red''.

Clarence was born on March 22, 1922, in Mason City, one of five
children to John and Eva (Overturf) Clausen.  He honorably served
his country in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines
and received his discharge from Fort Leavenworth Separation Center
in 1946.  He also served for several years in the National Guard.
 
He was united in marriage to Mary Curley on Dec. 11, 1948, in
Mason City.  To this union were born five sons.  During his working
years ``Red'' was a driver for Betsy Ross Bread Co. and then
for State Brand Creamery for over 30 years, retiring in 1984.
 
Clarence spent many happy years bowling for several different
leagues in Mason City and was the state singles champion in 1953.
 
For his efforts in bowling, he was inducted into the Bowling
Hall of Fame in 1991.  He was a member of the Gallagher Post
of the American Legion in Rockwell and the San Juan-Marne Post
No. 733 of the V.F.W. in Mason City.  He was a very active recruiter
for the V.F.W.  He also was a member of the Moose Lodge, Mason
City. He also was a great fan of all types of ballgames and enjoyed
his grandchildren.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Mary, Mason City; four living
sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and his wife, Linda, St. Paul,
Minn., Jim and his wife, Deanna, Norwalk, Bob and his wife, Darla,
Des Moines, and Pat and his wife, Pam, Mason City.  He is also
survived by his two sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Esther) Wheeler and
Ruth Eppens, both of Mason City; one brother Milford and his
wife, Joan Clausen, Dubuque; and 11 special grandchildren.

``Red'' was preceded in death by his son, Steven in 1975 following
an accident; three brothers, Chuck, Don, and Kenny; and one sister,
Geraldine Clausen; as well as his parents.

Olga J. Ulstad
CLARION  

     Olga J. Ulstad, 88, of Clarion, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 1995) at
Clarion Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holmes Lutheran
Church, Holmes, with the Rev. Carlton Shaw officiating.  Burial
will be in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Willim Funeral
Home, Clarion.

Olga J. Ulstad was born Dec. 3, 1906, at Holmes.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruby Egemo, Story City, and 
Agnes Amosson, Clear Lake; and one brother, Harold Ulstad,
Marshalltown.

Robert Dean Rosenberg
ST. ANSGAR 

     Robert Dean Rosenberg, 63, of St. Ansgar, died Friday (Oct.
6, 1995) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's
Lutheran Church, Rock Township, with the Rev. Rose Marie Lewis
officiating.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schroeder
and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and one hour prior to service
time Tuesday at the church.

Robert Dean Rosenberg was born May 30, 1932, in Osage.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Rosenberg, St. Ansgar; two
daughters, Becky Kofron, Forest City, and Susan Buntrock, St.
Ansgar; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Farrell, St. Ansgar; three
sons, Richard Rosenberg, St. Ansgar, Bradley Rosenberg, Roberts,
Wis., and Jeffrey Rosenberg, Grafton; one stepson, 
Christian Farrell, Austin, Minn.; and 11 grandchildren and four step-
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Paul Finley, 92, of Osage, died Friday (Oct. 6, 1995) at Maple
Manor Nursing Home, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at United
Methodist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Robert Garrick officiating.
Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Champion
Funeral Home, Osage.

Paul Finley was born June 10, 1903, in Webster Township, Madison
County.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Finley, Osage; two sons, 
Wayne Finley, Northwood, and Merlyn Finley, Decorah; three sisters,
Hazel McInroe and Fannie Greenley, both of Waterloo, and 
Faith Tompkins, Bellville, Texas; one brother, John Finley, Austin,
Minn.; and seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and 15
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two
brothers and one half brother.

Irene Suntken
BELMOND 

     Irene Suntken, 71, of Belmond, died Saturday (Oct. 7, 1995)
at the Hospice Unit of Good Shepherd Home, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct.
11, at Bethany Reformed Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Melvin
Voss officiating.  Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Tenold Funeral
Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at
the church.

Irene Suntken was born Oct. 12, 1923, at Thornton.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three
brothers.

Helen Louise Gallion
MANLY  

     Helen Louise Gallion, 84, of Manly, died Saturday (Oct. 7, 1995)
at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today, Oct. 11, at Bethel
United Methodist Church in Manly, with the Rev. James Poulsen
officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway
18 West, Mason City.

 Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bride Colonial
Chapel, 110 East Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to service
time today at the church.

Helen Louise Gallion was born on Sept. 23, 1911, in Mio, Mich.,
the daughter of B.D. "Ben" Stickfort and Lottie Benjegerdes Stickfort.
She attended and received her education in the Danville Township
rural school and graduated from Manly High School in 1928.

She was united in marriage to Roy W. Gallion on June 22, 1930,
in Manly. After their marriage together they farmed in the Lime
Creek Township area in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, for 65 years
until their retirement. She had been a resident at the I.O.O.F.
Home in Mason City since 1994.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, raising chickens
and her circles and clubs.

She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and the
Willing Workers Church Circle in Manly. She also was a member
of the Royal Blue Rebekah Lodge No. 240 for over 60 years, Fairview
Ladies Aid, Manly Camera Club, Cerro Gordo County Ladies Farm
Bureau, Golden Wedding Club and a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Roy W. Gallion, of Manly; four
children, Roberta Cooper and her husband, Merrill, of Mason City;
Beatrice Smoley and her husband, Ray, of Buffalo Center; 
Edward Gallion and his wife, Arlene, of Manly, and Sharon Bosma and
her husband, Richard, of Buffalo Center; a daughter-in-law, Patricia
Miller and her husband, John, of Spencer, Wis.; 19 grandchildren
and 34 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Henrietta Miller,
Twin Lakes, Minn.; Violet Roe, of Avondale, Ariz., and 
Viola Theilen and her husband, Henry, Garden Grove, Calif., as well
as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Duwayne C.
Gallion; granddaughter, Debra Sue Johnson; two sisters, 
Lucy Behnken and Leona Dobel, and one brother, Lloyd Stickfort.

Ida A. Morse
FERTILE 

     Mrs. Ida A. Morse, 70, of Fertile, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 1995)
at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church
of Christ, Fertile, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Graveside
services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ventura Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour
prior to services at the church on Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the Ida A. Morse memorial fund.

Ida was born Oct. 24, 1924, in Ventura, the daughter of 
Addison H. Cooley and Elina C. (nee) Bach Cooley.

She graduated from Ventura High School in 1942.  Ida worked at the 
Clear Lake Bakery and then the Clear Lake Mirror.

She married Harry E. Morse on Dec. 22, 1945, in Ventura.

They lived in the North Iowa area until moving back to Fertile
in 1962 where  she has lived ever since.

She operated Lime Rock Cafe in Fertile and also was a well known
cook in the area.

Ida enjoyed doing all types of crafts, and made dog booties
for Libby Riddles' dog sled in Iditarod Dog Sled Race in Alaska.

Ida is survived by seven children, Sandy Gjerdahl and her husband,
Dave, of Rake; Steve Morse and his wife, Geri, of St. Paul Park,
Minn.; Tim Morse and his wife, Kathy, of Colorado Springs, Colo.;
Scott Morse of Anchorage, Alaska; Pat Morse and his wife, Elida,
of Clear Lake; Jon Morse and his wife, Debbie of Anchorage, Alaska;
and Elin Miner and her husband, Harold ``Shorty'' of Fertile;
18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Evalena
Coe and her husband, Ted, of Ventura; and one brother, Orland
Cooley and his wife, Doris, of Ridgeway.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1963;
a grandson, Troy Burke; and three brothers, Lawrence Bach, 
Arnold Bach and Clarence Bach.

Francisco Ibarra
MASON CITY  

     Francisco Ibarra, 82, of 1311 N. Quincy Ave., formerly of Clear
Lake, died Saturday (Oct. 7, 1995) at Heritage Care Center.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at Holy Family
Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Raymond A.
Burkle officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial
Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a 7 p.m. Scriptural prayer service
followed by a 7:30 p.m. family rosary.

Francisco Ibarra was born Aug. 14, 1913, in Mexico, son of 
Francisco Ibarra and Maria (nee) Haro Ibarra.

He married Esperanza Munoz on Dec. 28, 1934. She preceded him
in death on Feb. 3, 1979.

He was married to Candelaria Martinez in 1981.

Next to his family, his love of music was first and foremost.
In Mexico, he studied classical music. He played the trumpet
until his retirement. To all his friends in the music field,
he was always known as ``El Maestro.''

Survivors include his wife, Candelaria Ibarra of Mason City;
three sons, Frank Ibarra of Clear Lake, Joe Ibarra and his wife,
Emma, of Clear Lake and their children,  Joe Jr., Alex and Estelle;
and Rudy Ibarra and his wife, Helen, of Mason City and their
children, Yolanda, Steve, Gloria and Michelle; three daughters,
Alice Vasquez and her husband, Rufus, and their son, James of
Mason City,  Josephine McDevitt and her husband, David, of Clear
Lake, and their children, Hope and Natalie, and Mary Burgess
and her husband, Donald, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and their children,
Crystina and Anthony; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and
one sister, Elena Rico.

Burnes S. Gould
MASON CITY  

     Burnes S. Gould, 324 Second St. N.E., formerly of Clear Lake,
died Monday (Oct. 9, 1995) at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
 
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Randy Nielsen,
chaplain of the Good Shepherd Nursing home, officiating.

 Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, with full military
rites by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home
and until time of services on Thursday.

Memorials may be given to the Burnes S. Gould Memorial Fund.

Burnes S. Gould was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Lincoln Township,
Cerro Gordo County, the son of Edgar D. Gould and 
Myra I. (nee) North Gould.

Burnes attended Mason City Schools.

He married Buena G. Helm on March 31, 1943, in Albert Lea, Minn.

Burnes served in the United States Army during World War II
from March of 1945 to August of 1946.

 Burnes worked for Sears Roebuck, the Plymouth School System,
Clear Lake Community School System and A.C. Nielsen as a maintenance
engineer.

Burnes and Buena moved to Plymouth, to Clear Lake in 1964 and
then to Mason City in 1988.

Burnes enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards, snowmobiling,
boating and his grandchildren.

Burnes was a member of the V.F.W., and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Buena G. Gould of Mason City; three
daughters, Judy Bartlett of Decorah; Karen Petznick and her husband,
Robert, of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Donna Petersen and her husband,
Dennis, of Clear Lake; one son, Steven Gould and his wife, Dora,
of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and
one brother, Jerold Gould of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one
son-in-law, Wayne Bartlett.

William O. Villarreal
ALBERT LEA, Minn. 

     William O. Villarreal of 1620 Crystal Drive, Albert Lea, will
be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Theodore's Catholic Church,
with Father Robert Schneider officiating. Interment will be in
St. Theodore's Cemetery, with an Honor Guard provided by the
Knights of Columbus.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral
Service, Albert Lea. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service at
the funeral home.

Mr. Villarreal died Monday (Oct. 9, 1995) at his home at the
age of 86.

William was born April 21, 1909, in Sabinas Hidalgo Nuevo Leon,
Mexico, the son of Librado Villarreal and Francesa Villarreal.

William was married on Dec. 8, 1932, in Mason City, Iowa, to
Maria (nee) Aguilar.

He lived in Mason City, Iowa; Albert Lea, Minneapolis, and the
last 21 years back in Albert Lea.

He worked at the foundry in Albert Lea for many years and the
Scott Atwater Foundry in Minneapolis, for 12 years, before retiring
in Albert Lea. William also worked in the Hollandale area and
share- cropped with farmers.

William was a member of St. Theodore's Catholic Church. He
was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus.

William enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, playing cards and
cribbage, dancing, whittling, singing, fishing and storytelling.

He enjoyed being with his friends and family. William was a
real leader in the Mexican community. He founded the Aztec Club
in Albert Lea, and helped organize the L.U.L.A.C. National Association.

William is survived by his wife, Maria; five children, Albert
and his wife, Isabel Villarreal of Albert Lea; Sarah and her
husband, Don Wirtjes of Albert Lea; Cruz and her husband, Gordy
Andersen of Reno, Nev.; Carolina Navarrette of Indianapolis,
Ind., and Roque Villarreal of Apple Valley; 17 grandchildren;
23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces
and nephews; and sister-in-law, Juanita Villarreal of Bakersfield,
Calif.

William was preceded in death by his parents; 10 brothers and
sisters; and four grandsons.

William will be sadly missed by his loving family and many friends.

Virginia C. Witter
DES MOINES  

     Virginia C. Witter, 53, of Des Moines, died Saturday (Oct. 7,
1995) at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a sudden illness.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at New Hope
Assembly of God Church, Urbandale.

Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her soul mate of 16 years, Shirley Adkins
of Des Moines; and her stepmother, Julia Witter of Rockford,
Ill.

Born on Dec. 25, 1941, in Mason City, Virginia worked for GMAC
as an accountant and recently received recognition for 30 years
of service.

She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.

A memorial fund has been established for The Hospice in Des

     Anna M. Pfeffer, 84, of Algona, died Monday (Oct. 9, 1995)
at Good Samaritan Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Livermore. Interment will be in Mount
Calvary Cemetery, Livermore.

Visitation will begin 2:30 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home,
with a 3 p.m. guild rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture reading.

Anna M. Pfeffer was born May 4, 1911, in Humboldt County.

Survivors include three sisters, Louise Dvorak of Freemont,
Neb.; Suzanne Beisch and Catharin Pfeffer, both of Algona; and
one brother, Urban "Barney" Pfeffer of Algona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters.

CHARLES CITY 

     Esther F. Moeller, 71, a resident of 2735 Shadow Ave., died
Tuesday (Oct. 10, 1995) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Debra Lincoln officiating. Burial
will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hauser Funeral
Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the family greeting friends from
6:30 to 8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services at the church.

Esther Frieda Moeller was born Dec. 6, 1923, near Clarksville.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Klemm of Forest City,
and Kathy Obermeier of Polk City; one son, Lee Moeller of Clear
Lake; a sister, Louise Krueger of Charles City; a brother, 
Carl Schallock of Fountain, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Helen E. Swanson was born June 4, 1908, in Fairbury, Neb.

Survivors include her husband, Wendal Swanson of Galt; three

Mass., and Joyce Falkenberg of Bergen, Norway; one son, Ron Swanson
of Galt; one brother, J.E. Holland of Fort Worth, Texas; 11 grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and

Alfred Christ
LAKOTA 

     Alfred Christ, 80, formerly of Lakota, died Monday (Oct. 9,
1995) at Henricho Doctors Hospital, Richmond, Va.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran
Church, Lakota.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Winter Funeral
Home, Buffalo Center, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Alfred Leonhard Christ, 80, passed away Oct. 9, 1995, in Richard,
Va,. of a massive heart attack.

He was born on the home farm near Lakota on May 7, 1915, to
Earnest Christ and Marie (nee) Friedman Christ.

He was raised there and worked as a young man on the farm, four
miles east of Lakota.

On Feb. 23, 1939, he was united in marriage to Ruth Irene Nelson
and they farmed west of Lakota.

In 1953, they moved back to the Earnest Christ farm, where he
was a dairy farmer and a Lowe seed salesman for 17 more years.

When Alfred and Ruth left the farm, they moved to Cedar Rapids,
where Alfred worked at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in  maintenance.

In 1972 they moved to Muscatine,  where Alfred worked at the
Lutheran Home, also in maintenance.

In 1974, they moved again, this time to Tucson, Ariz., where
they bought and managed rental properties. While in Tucson, he
worked in a hardware store, which he thoroughly enjoyed. In 1979,
they moved to the retirement home in Phoenix, Ariz.

Alfred loved to laugh at life and good jokes, plus he loved
music. While young, he played the C-Saxophone.

He grew up speaking German and especially enjoyed a trip to
his mother's ancesteral home in Germany.

His hobbies included playing cards, reading, tinkering with
small engines and visiting his children in far off states and
countries.

But Alfred enjoyed most his family, friends and an active life
in the Lutheran  Church.

After sustaining a major stroke in 1985, Alfred continued his
life as a father, husband, and friend with dignity and grace,
all from the confines of a wheelchair.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth; six children,
Marlene Sharon Horst of Blaine, Wash; Dennis Alfred Christ of
Philadelphia, Pa.; Dean Ernest Christ of Cassville, Mo.; 
Lorraine Ruth Christ of Richmond, Va.; Robert Arthur Christ of Dallas,
Ore.; and Donna Mae Hawley of Everett, Wash.; one brother, 
Edwin Christ of Lake Mills; two sisters,  Leona Anderson of West Lake
Village, Calif., and  Francis Rivero, Sanford, Fla.; 14 grandchildren;
nine stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of
nieces and nephews.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Marie,
and sisters, Alma Christ and Helen Christ.

     Gary L. Hagen, 52, of 433 470th St., Lake Mills, died Wednesday
(Oct. 11, 1995) at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit, Mason City.
                                         
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sion Lutheran
Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Randy Nielsen officiating.
Burial will be in the Sion Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Lake
Mills.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mittelstadt Funeral
Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Gary L. Hagen was born June 27, 1943, in Forest City the son
of Gilman Hagen and Murlette (nee) Lovick Hagen.

He was a 1961 graduate of Lake Mills High School.

He was united in marriage to LeAnn Branstad on Sept. 29, 1962,
at Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills.

He worked for Fleetguard Company for 11 years in Lake Mills,
in industrial maintenance. Prior to that he was a self-employed
carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, LeAnn Hagen of Lake Mills; two daughters,
Angela Storby of Lake Mills and her fiance, Doug Bacon of Ventura;
Sara Brackey and her husband, Warren Brackey of Joice; four grandchildren;
Mitchell Storby, Jacob, Jordynn and Josie Brackey; his mother,
Murlette Hagen of Lake Mills; one brother, Gordon and his wife,
Jean Hagen of Lake Mills; one sister, Linda Hagen of Albuquerque,
N.M.; and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and one nephew.

Earl E. Hinman
BELMOND 

     Earl E. Hinman, 77, of Belmond, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 1995)
at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United
Church of Christ Congregational in Belmond, with the Rev. Laurence
Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home,
Belmond, and from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.

Earl was born Aug. 23, 1918, on the farm that he farmed and
lived on until the past two years. He was the third generation
to live on the Hinman Century Farm.

He was a meticulous farmer and a perfectionist in his woodworking
hobby of building walnut clocks, furniture, inlaid tables, knick
knack shelves and various other projects which were enjoyed by
a host of friends and family.

A special project of Earl's was making oak crosses which were
given to over 300 families as an expression of his Christian
faith.

He was a faithful member of the United Church (Congregational)
in Belmond and was a lifetime member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. He
enjoyed the sociability of card games, fishing, and traveling.
He enjoyed his many friends.

He graduated from Belmond High School in 1936, and was married
to Helen Landon on April 19, 1942, in the Congregational Church,
the same church in which he was baptized.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Lynda Etchen
and her husband, Delbert of Belmond; his daughter-in-law, 
Kathy Goldberg of Chicago; six grandchildren; two brothers; and three
sisters.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dwight Hinman, killed in Vietnam;
his parents; one brother; and one sister.

     Ida Egede, 101, of Hampton, died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 1995) at

Howard L. Hoenk was born Dec. 21, 1901, in Momence, Ill.

Fla.; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter; and one sister,

     Walter H. Thomas, 82, of Clarion, died Wednesday (Oct. 11,

Walter H. Thomas was born April 18, 1913, south of Clarion.

     John LeRoy Paulsen, 55, of 121 S. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, died
Wednesday (Oct. 11, 1995) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Christian
Church, 102 N. Hawkeye, with the Rev. David Jones officiating.
 Burial will be in Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Sunday at Sheckler Colonial
Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, and one hour prior to services at the
church Monday.

Memorials may be given to the John LeRoy Paulsen memorial fund.

John was born on March 20, 1940, in Floyd County, a son of 
Christian Paulsen and Elda Paulsen (nee) Lee.  He married 
Dixie Smith on Oct. 24, 1958, in Mason City.

John and Dixie made their home in Nora Springs.  He worked at
Jacob E. Decker and Sons for 23 years, and later drove motor
homes for five years.  He also farmed with his father-in-law
for several years.

Survivors include three daughters, Vickey Bailey and Barbara Fransen, 
both of Nora Springs, and Carol Paulsen of Arlington,
Minn.; three sons, Gordon Paulsen and his wife, Laurie, of Lakeville,
Minn.; Douglas Paulsen and his wife, LaJeana, and Dan Paulsen
and his wife Jessica, all of Nora Springs; seven grandchildren;
one great-granddaughter; father-in-law, George Smith of Nora
Springs; three brothers, William Paulsen and his wife, Shirley,
of Green Isle, Minn.; Robert Paulsen and his wife, Norma, of
Plymouth, and DuWayne Paulsen and his wife, Lynette, of Rockford;
and one sister, Connie Stienlicht of Mason City.
                                 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Elda;
his wife, Dixie; one daughter, Brenda Paulsen;  and one son,

Mary Kathleen Veren

     Mary Kathleen Veren, 52, of 1801 Garden Drive, Columbia, Mo.,
and formerly of Osage, Iowa, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 1995) at
home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

service at 7:30 p.m. at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage.

Kathy was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of
William J. Von Tersch and Cecelia (nee) Smith Von Tersch.  She moved
with her family to Osage in 1946, attended Osage schools and graduated
from Osage High School in 1961.  She attended Rochester, Minn.,
Junior College and was employed by Mayo Clinic.  Kathy was united
in marriage to Darrell Veren on May 1, 1965, in Osage.  They
lived in Osage, Maxwell, Monroe, Cedar Rapids and Columbia, Mo.
 Kathy enjoyed sports, crafts and golf.

She is survived by her mother, Cecelia Von Tersch of Osage;
her husband, Darrell Veren of Columbia, Mo.; one daughter, 
Mary Frances Bolander and her husband, Eric, of Gurnee, Ill.; one
son, Bill Veren and his wife, Cheryl, of Fairfax, Vt.; three
sisters, Sheila Moksnes and her husband, Duane, of Minnetonka,
Minn.; Peg Bowe of Mason City; Joan Kleckner and her husband,
Bruce, of Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, Tom Von Tersch and his
wife, Marilyn, of Osage, and Tim Von Tersch and his wife, Annette,
of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her father, William, in 1973.

MASON CITY 

     Peter J. Rothamel Sr., 76, of 429 S. Pierce Ave., died Friday
(Oct. 13, 1995) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, 502 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling
and the Rev. Jack Paisley officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood-St.
Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. Sunday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial
Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., where a Scriptural wake service will
be held at 7 p.m.

Peter J. Rothamel Sr. was born July 21, 1919, at Fort Dodge,
a son of Nicholas Rothamel and Rose (nee) Herganreiter Rothamel.  
He married Beulah A. Myklestad on March 4, 1946, at Holy Family Catholic
Church, Mason City.

Peter was a 1937 graduate of Kensett High School.  He served
in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Following his discharge
he attended Mason City Junior College, graduating in 1948.

From 1938-61 he worked as an accountant at Boyette Construction
Company, Kensett.  In 1961 he joined L.R. Falk Construction Company,
St. Ansgar, as an accountant, until retiring.

Pete was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason
City.  He was involved in numerous activities of St. Joseph School
and Newman High School.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah Rothamel of Mason City; five
daughters, Nancy Greenlee of Waverly; Bonnie Bahnsen of Nora
Springs; Sheila Krejci of Burnsville, Minn.; Peggy Boehmer and
Mary Higgins, both of Mason City; four sons, Mike Rothamel of
Cedar Falls; Bill Rothamel of Flower Mound, Texas; Jack Rothamel
of Bloomington, Minn., and Paul Rothamel of Coal Valley, Ill,;
21 grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Sallee and Geraldine Lansing,
both of Mason City; and one brother, John Rothamel of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four
sisters and three grandchildren.

     Gerald White, 80, died Friday (Oct. 13, 1995) at his home.

Gerald White was born Oct. 21, 1914, in Bancroft.

nine grandchildren; two brothers, George White of Spokane, Wash.,

of Christ, Ionia, officiating.  Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory

Ada Jean Smith was born March 29, 1931, in New Hampton.

Vera C. Gentry
SHEFFIELD  

     Sheffield resident Vera C. Gentry, 74, died of cancer Friday
(Oct. 13, 1995) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason
City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Richland
Lutheran Church, Thornton, with the Rev. Ken Defleson of Lawler
officiating.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Viewing will be held at the Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield
between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. Sunday.

The family has established a memorial fund benefiting Hospice
of North Iowa in Mason City.

Vera C. Gentry was born on the family farm between Sheffield
and Thornton on Aug. 14, 1921.

Although Vera lived in a number of other Iowa communities from
1948 until 1985 when she returned to Sheffield, she retained
many close ties to the Sheffield area through family and friends.
 She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1939 and was very
active in recent years' reunions of the surviving members of
the class of '39.  In addition, Vera took very active roles in
the activities of the Hillside Cemetery Society, Meals On Wheels,
Senior Citizens and the congregation of the Richland Lutheran
Church, Thornton.

Survivors include one son, Dennis and his wife, Amy, of Warren,
N.J.; three grandchildren, Brad of Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. David
(Debra) Zuccalmaglio of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Suzanne of Carrollton, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Sara Zuccalmaglio of Basking Ridge, N.J.; sisters, Berniece Kieslick of Sheffield and Beatrice Inman of Los Angeles, Calif.; and brother, 
Luther Younge of Sheffield.
