GARNER  

Fern Erickson, 90, died Saturday (Nov. 18, 1995) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Bernard Olson officiating.  Burial
will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.  Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements.

Fern Erickson was born Aug. 22, 1905 in Miller.

Survivors include one daughter, Delores Hill of Tucson, Ariz.;
two sons, Tom Erickson of Coeur D' Alene, Idaho, and Eldean Erickson
of Fremont, Neb.; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Eva Jass of Garner, and Velva Cope of Greeley, Colo.;
two brothers, Perle Evanson of Seattle, Wash., and Lawrence Evanson
of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters,
and three brothers.

Clara Evans
LAKE MILLS  

Clara Evans, 96, died Friday (Nov. 17, 1995) at Lake Mills Care
Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran
Church, Joice, with the Rev. Randy Nielsen officiating.  Burial
will be in Concordia Cemetery, rural Joice.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Mittelstadt
Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at
the church on Tuesday.

Clara T. Evans was born July 16, 1899 near Joice in Worth County.

Survivors include four sons, Arden Evans of Lake Mills, Cecil
Evans of Joice, Larry Evans of Agoura, Calif., and Leslie Evans
of Omaha, Neb.; twenty grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters,
one son in infancy, a sister, and two brothers.

Virginia C. Johnson
NORA SPRINGS  

Virginia C. Johnson, 80, died Friday (Nov. 17, 1995) at Nora
Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St.
Paul Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. James B. Norem
officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason
City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Major-Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and will
continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

The family suggests memorials to the Virginia C. Johnson Memorial
Fund.

Virginia C. Johnson was born Oct. 3, 1915 in Mason City, the
daughter of Otto and Dora (Molstead) Lichtenstein.  Virginia
grew up in Manly and graduated from Manly High School.  Virginia
married Allen S. Johnson on March 27, 1933 in Algona.  She spent
most of her life in Mason City, having worked at Fareway Bakery,
St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital and was most recently employment
with Kembles Flowers.  She moved to Rudd in December of 1993.
 Virginia was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Esther Circle,
card clubs, an R.S.V.P. volunteer, and enjoyed walking at the
mall.

Survivors include four daughters, Karin McComb and her husband,
Raymond of Richfield, Minn., Margaret Movick and her husband,
Marvin of Belle Vista, Ark., Sandra Moore and her husband, Leland
of Rudd, and Nancy McKenzie and her husband, Walter of Phoenix,
Ariz.; one son, Allen S. Johnson, III and his wife, Thumper of
Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Ruth Norcross of Indian Rocks Beach,
Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Donald Smith of Manly, and Dr. Wallace
Eagle of Geneva, Ill.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grand
children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters,
one brother and three grandsons.

Peter J. Kroeger, 83, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 1995) at Belmond
Community Hospital.

 Burial will be in Belmond Cemetery with military rites provided
by the Belmond Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ewing Funeral

on Wednesday.

Lawrence A. Rogers, 58, died Friday (Nov. 17, 1995) at Mitchell
County Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United

Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Champion
Funeral Home.

Lawrence A. Rogers was born Aug. 1, 1937 in Osage.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Osage; two daughters, Julie
Fredrickson of Manly, and Melody Eenhuis of Osage; four sons,
Larry Rogers of Altoona, Tim Rogers of Rudd, Danny and Scott
Rogers, both of Osage; one sister, Dorothy Warner of Des Moines;
three brothers, John Rogers and Allan Rogers, both of Osage,
and Dean Rogers of Nevada; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Charlotte Vande Kamp
MASON CITY  

Mrs. Jim (Charlotte) Vande Kamp, 64, of 315 Sixth St. S.E.,
died Saturday (Nov. 18, 1995) at her home of natural causes.

will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church
with the Rev. David Shogren officiating.  Friends are invited
to attend an open gathering of remembrance with the family from
7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the lounge of the church.  She was cremated
at Memorial Park Crematory.  Inurnment will take place at a later
date.  Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel is in charge
of arrangements.

Charlotte was born the only daughter of nine children to Charles
and Cecelia (Larson) Ruble on Nov. 30, 1930 in Albert Lea, Minn.
 She graduated in 1948 from Albert Lea High School and later
that year on Nov. 13th she was united in marriage to Jim Vande
Kamp at the Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea.  To this union
was born six children.  She and Jim made their home in Hollindale,
Minn. until 1978 when they moved to Mason City and have lived
here ever since.  Charlotte served Mason City as a school crossing
guard for 15 years and cared and nurtured her family as a mother
and homemaker.  Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren
playing store and baking cookies.  She is well known for nurturing
and working for others as well as loving flowers, especially
roses.  She attended regularly the ceramics club of the senior
citizens as well as painting china, saw blades and milk cans.
 She was an excellent player of Scrabble and scored a very high
199 on the night before her death.  She was a member of Wesley
United Methodist Church where she taught elementary Sunday School
and the United Methodist Women.

Charlotte's family members include her husband Jim; six children,
her oldest daughter Kristine Thompson, now deceased, and her
husband, Roger of Clarksgrove, Minn., Pauline `Polly' Vande Kamp
of Albert Lea, Minn., Timothy J. and his wife, Kristine Vande
Kamp of Camby, Ore., Jeffrey S. and his wife, Virginia Vande
Kamp of Hollindale, Minn., Kathleen `Kathy' and her husband,
Phil Best of Mason City, Martin W. and his wife, Julie Vande
Kamp of Everson, Wash.; eight brothers of the Ruble family, Charles
and his wife, Molly of DeWitt, Mich., Henry and his wife, Charlotte
of Minneapolis, Minn., Bruce and his wife, Shirley of Mankato,
Minn., Roger and his wife, Donna of Onalaska, Wis., Robert and
his wife, Jane of Rochester, Minn., a deceased brother, Douglas
and his living wife, Jenny, Karl and his wife, Cheryl, and Peter
and his wife, Mary Jane, all of DeWitt, Mich.; 13 grandchildren;
and one great-grandson; two brothers-in-law; seven living sisters
-in-law
and one deceased sister-in-law and their families, along with
a special cousin, Bert and Ruth Vande Kamp, North Branch, Minn.

Along with her daughter and one brother she is proceeded in
death by her parents.

Mary E. Kissel, 74, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 1995) at Faith Home.

 Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Champion

Mary E. Kissel was born July 16, 1921 in Blue Earth, Minn.

Survivors include six daughters, Ramona Stubbs of Dubuque, Rosalie
Campbell of Osage, Mary Eileen Burke of Cedar Falls, Susan Grant
of Charles City, Veronica Newton of Stacyville, and Ann Hart
of Covington, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Shirley A. Ross, 70, of Clear Lake, died Monday (Nov. 20, 1995)
at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wesley
United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City,
with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Burial will be in Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to
services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Shirley A. Ross Memorial Fund.

Shirley A. Ross was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Fort Dodge, the daughter
of John E. and Dorothy L. (Griffith) Vesterby.

Shirley graduated from Mason City High School in 1943, attended
McMurray College in Illinois and graduated from the University
of Northern Iowa in 1965.

Shirley taught music in Hampton and Turkey Valley and was a
housemother at an Iowa State University fraternity the past eight
years. She retired this year.

Shirley was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, PEO,
Matinee Musicale, Bridge Club, NEA. and the ISEA.

Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Ross of San Francisco,
Calif.; sons, John ``J.K.'' Ross and his wife, Lori, of Seattle,
Wash., and Daniel Ross and his wife, Janice, of Prairie du Sac,
Wis.; two grandchildren, John and Sarah; and her mother, Dorothy
Vesterby of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her father and one son, Andrew
Ross in 1981.

Martin B. Barz
KLEMME  

Martin B. Barz, 87, of Klemme, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 1995) at
the Kanawha Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel
Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Georgia 
White-Kisslring
officiating. Interment will be in the Ell Township Cemetery,
with military rites by the Klemme VFW-American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Tenold
Funeral Home, Klemme, and from 11:30 a.m  until one hour prior
to services on Wednesday at the church.

Martin Benjamin Barz, the son of Herman F. and Olga M. (Ratzlaff)
Barz, was born March 28, 1908, in rural Klemme.

He attended rural school and graduated from Klemme High School
in 1926.

On June 24, 1930, he was united in marriage to Irene M. Drake
at Clear Lake. They have lived their entire life in Klemme. To
this union, one daughter, Maxine, was born.

Martin served in the United States Navy during World War II,
in the Pacific area, and was involved in the invasion of Okinawa.
He was stationed in Japan after its surrender.

From 1928 to 1952, Martin was employed at the Klemme Food Market,
the last 20 years as manager.

 He started working in the First National Bank in 1952, as a
bookkeeper, and at the time of his retirement from the bank in
1973, he was vice president, cashier and a member of the board
of directors. He then established his independent insurance agency,
which he sold in 1986.

He was a member of the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ.
He has been an active booster and supporter for Klemme.

 He was a member of the Klemme School Board, Lions Club, Klemme
Recreation Club, Klemme Apartment Board, and elder in his church,
City Council, as treasurer.

He was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Garner,
 member of the American Legion, Klemme Area Development Organization
(K.A.D.O.), Klemme Senior Citizens Klub, and was named the Outstanding
Senior Citizen for Klemme and Hancock County in 1960. He also served
as a member of the board for the Prairie View Apartments in Garner.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Barz of the Kanawha Community
Nursing Home; a grandson, Scott Carter and his wife, Rose, of
Youngsville, N.C.; granddaughter, Sue Carter of Raleigh, N.C.;
great-grandson, Scott Carter Jr.; sister, Stella Bartz of Klemme;
son-in-law, Robert Krall; and sister-in-law, Gladys Drake of
El Paso, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maxine Krall; parents;
brothers, Gerald and Paul; and sister, Marcedia.

Timothy John Millard
KENSETT  

Timothy John Millard, 39, of rural Kensett, died Friday (Nov.
17, 1995) at his home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Manly, with Father Thomas McAndrew and
the Rev. Selmer ``Sam'' Hernes officiating.  Burial will be in
the Kensett Cemetery with military graveside honors by Our Buddies
VFW Memorial Post 6779 of Northwood.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Conner Colonial Chapel,
99-11th St. S., Northwood.

Timothy John Millard was born on Sept. 21, 1956, in Mason City,
the son of Chester and Clara (Wagner) Millard.  He was baptized
at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City, and confirmed at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.  He attended and received
his education in the Northwood-Kensett School System.  In 1975,
he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving with the 101st Airborne
Division until his honorable discharge in 1978, returning to
Northwood where he was engaged in farming with LuVerne ``Bud''
Erickson on their farm west of Kensett.  In the early 1980s he
earned his AA Degree from NIACC in Mason City.  He was united
in marriage to JoAnne Erickson on Feb. 22, 1986, at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Mason City.

He enjoyed fishing, raising livestock and farming but his great
love and enjoyment was his children.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Millard of Kensett, five
children, Nigel Millard of Northwood, Jon Geerlings, Doug Millard,
Trent Millard and Trisha Millard, all of Kensett; his parents,
Chester and Clara Millard of Northwood; his maternal grandmother,
Gertrude Wagner of Northwood; four brothers, Mark Millard and
his wife, Carolyn, of Ames; Jeff Millard and his wife, Kathy,
of Garner; Dan Millard and his wife, Dawn, of Fertile, and Tom
Millard of Citrus Heights, Calif.; two sisters, Pamela Best and
her husband, Kirk, of Webster City, and Debra Sampson and her
husband, Jim, of Ellsworth;, his mother-in-law, Phyllis Erickson
of Kensett; several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives
and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his
maternal grandfather.

Lola Mae Diekoff, 78, of Algona, died Monday (Nov. 20, 1995)
at the Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel
of the Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harvey D. Steven 
officiating.
Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home.

Lola Mae Diekoff was born March 25, 1917, at Fort Dodge.

Survivors include one brother, Eldon Boone of Madrid.

Mike Dennis Wilson Jr.
FORT WORTH, Texas 

Mike Dennis Wilson Jr., 15, of Fort Worth,  died Sunday (Nov.
19, 1995) at the Cook/Fort Worth Children's Medical Center, Fort
Worth.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bluebonnet
Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Worth.

Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home, Fort Worth, is in charge
of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association
in his memory.

Mike Dennis Wilson Jr. was born on Dec. 10, 1979. in Fort Worth,
to Mike Dennis Wilson Sr. and Grace J. Wilson.

He was a student at Central Junior High in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his father, Mike Dennis Wilson Sr. of Wesley,
Iowa; his mother, Grace J. Wilson of Fort Worth; one brother,
Lyle B. Wilson of Fort Worth; one sister, Rachel L. Thompson
of Fort Worth; three stepsisters; two stepbrothers; his paternal
grandmother, Betty Wilson of Fort Worth; his maternal grandmother,
Lena Thompson of Bedford; a nephew, Christian Wilson of Fort
Worth; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Richard N. Thurston
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  

Richard N. Thurston, 77, of Fort Lauderdale,  formerly of Forest
City, Iowa, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 1995) at his home.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Petersen Lund
Funeral Home, Forest City, with the Rev. Albert Snyder officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral
home.

Richard Norman Thurston, the son of Norman T. and Maude W. (Johnson)
Thurston, was born Feb. 10, 1918, in Forest City.

He attended and graduated from  Forest City High School.

In 1941, he married Elaine Kriens in Cureo, Texas.

Richard served his country in World War II, as an Army Air Corps
pilot.

Following the war, the couple moved to Des Moines where he began
flying for Monsanto and in 1962, to St. Louis, Mo. Elaine passed
away Aug. 22, 1984.

Richard married Gertrud Russ in Fort Lauderdale where the couple
made their home until his death.

He was a member of the Hump Pilots Association.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrud Thurston of Fort Lauderdale;
two sons, Robert R. Thurston and his wife, Lisa, of Overland
Park, Kan., and John N. Thurston and his wife, Peggy, of Dallas,
Texas; six grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Brown Gibson
of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife,
Elaine.

Peter John Kroeger
BELMOND 

Peter John Kroeger, 83, of Belmond, passed away Sunday (Nov.
19, 1995) at Belmond Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Laurence Garrett officiating.
Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Home.

Peter was born Jan. 17, 1912, in Schleswig, the son of William
and Katie Dorenkamp Kroeger.  Peter was raised near Schleswig,
and attended country schools there.  On March 26, 1932, he was
united in marriage with Edna Berghefer at Denison.  The couple
moved to Belmond in 1942 and farmed around the Meservey area.

Peter served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He worked
on road construction from 1953-1973, when he then retired.  Peter
and Edna spent their winters in the south.  Peter loved to play
cribbage and go fishing.  He was a member of the United Methodist
Church, the Cedar Falls Legion and the Belmond VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; one daughter,  Donna Traeger
and her husband, Carl, of Belmond;; eight grandchildren, Keith
Traeger and his wife, Karen; James Traeger and his wife, Elizabeth;
Larry Traeger and his wife, Julie; Craig Traeger and his wife,
Dawn; Kevin Traeger and his wife, Joni; Lorie Traeger and her
husband, Douglas Page; Kathryn Quam and Christa Traeger; 15
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother,
Arlo and his wife, Daisey, of Denison.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Delores
Ewald and Ethel Mundt.

MASON CITY 

Ethel L. Beed, 100, of Mason City, formerly of Titonka, died
Saturday (Nov. 18, 1995) at Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the
United Methodist Church, Titonka, with the Rev. Merlin Norris
officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka.

Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-
Murphy-Schaaf
Funeral Home, Titonka.

Ethel L. Beed was born July 2, 1895, in Winslow, Ill., the daughter
of George W. and Mary (Foley) Kennedy.

She attended school in Winslow, Ill.

On June 8, 1914, she was united in marriage to Harry Beed in
Boone. Her husband preceded her in death on May 13, 1979.

After their marriage, the couple lived in Hampton until 1928.
From 1928 until 1948, they operated the Beed Hardware store in
Titonka. 

After the death of her husband, Ethel moved to Friendship Haven
in Fort Dodge and lived there until her health failed.

 She then lived with her daughter, Helen Schram and most recently
at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

She was past president of the United Methodist Women, member
of the Legion Auxiliary, Titonka Women's Club and was active
in community affairs.

She is survived by one daughter, Helen Schram and her husband,
Wilbur, of Clear Lake; one son, Charles Beed and his wife, Jean,
of Green Valley, Ariz.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
 five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Corrine Albright
of Waterloo; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandchildren,
Jeffrey Schram; two brothers, Hugh and Kenneth Kennedy; and four
sisters, Gladys Kingsberry, Margaret Caton, Lois Lolare and Coralyn

Orville was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Clear Lake, the son of Lloyd

He married Fern Prohaska on May 6, 1950, in Glenville, Minn.

He farmed in the Clear Lake area and served on the Swaledale
City Council.

Orville is survived by his wife, Fern (Skip) Miller of Thornton;
a special niece, Roxann Thielen and her husband, Kurt, of Latimer;
two brothers, LaVern Miller and his wife, Pearl, of Clear Lake,
and Dwayne Miller and his wife, Ardith, of  Charles City; and
two sisters, Dorothy Jean Heimendinger and her husband, Orville,
of Forest City, and Bonnie Miller of Clear Lake.

Walter Koester, 83, of 917 First St. S., Rockwell, died Monday
(Nov. 20, 1995) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason

Walter Koester was born on May 8, 1912 on a farm southeast of
Rockwell to George and Meta (Ubben) Koester.

He attended a country school about two miles from home, graduating
from the eighth grade.

His early years were spent helping his parents with farm work
and later working for several farmers in the area.

He was married to Valois Ingraham on May 10, 1935 in the parsonage
of the Grace Baptist Church of Sheffield. The couple celebrated
their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

They had one son, Larry, born on March 23, 1938 who preceded
him in death.

They farmed southeast of Rockwell for several years, moving
to their farm northwest of Rockwell in 1940. Here they continued
farming until having a farm sale in December of 1972. They continued
living on the farm renting the land out until 1980 when they
moved to their present home in Rockwell.

Walter enjoyed farming. His hobbies were fishing and golfing.
The past several years, he has lost several good fishing and
golfing friends in death.

Walter and his wife spent many winters in Escondido, Calif.
and the last three winters in Arizona.

He was a faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church of Sheffield
since 1924. He acceted the Lord at 12 years of age and was baptized
and joined the church.

He is survived by his wife, Valois of Rockwell; a daughter-in-law,
Naomi Koester of Palm Springs, Calif.; a sister, Helen Koester
at the Sheffield Care Center; a sister-in-law, Velma Severe and
her husband, Lyle of Rockwell; a nephew, Robert Koester and his
wife, Marcia of Clear Lake; and their children; nieces, Linda
Hage and her husband, Jim of Escanaba, Mich., Jane Lou and her
husband, Sam; their children, Michele and David of Libertyville,
Ill. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

Matilda ``Tillie'' H. Freese, 79, of 109 N. Georgia Ave., died
Monday (Nov. 20, 1995)  at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit.

the cremains will be buried in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford,
Iowa.

Matilda ``Tillie'' Helen Nauman Freese, daughter of Max and
Lydia (Ehling) Nauman was born Aug. 8, 1916 in New Hartford,
Iowa.

As one of 13 children, Tillie was raised on her family's farm
near Nora Springs before marrying in 1934.

Tillie has lived and worked in Mason City for 55 years. Her
employers have included Klipto Office Supply, Good Shepherd and
Amicare.

She was a member of Jehovah's Witness.

Tillie was a unique and hard-working woman who devoted her life
to caring for others.

She will be remembered for the love and kindness she gave her
family as well as for her individuality.

She was dearly loved and will hold a special place in our hearts
always.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois M. Shanks and her husband,
Glen of Mason City; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;
five sisters, Anna Meyerann of Waterloo, Marguerite McGill of

Warren Quintus, 75, of Garner died Tuesday (Nov. 21, 1995) at

Warren Wayne Quintus, the son of Earl L. and Ruby Augusta (Radloff)
Quintus was born Nov. 9, 1920 on a farm south of Garner.

He attended school at Ventura where he graduated in 1939.

 During World War II, he served his country in the United States
Army, where he was stationed in the European Theatre.

After the service he returned to Garner and began working for
Pritchard Auto Company.

On Jan. 17, 1947, he married Betty Jean Fiero at the United
Presbyterian Church in Garner.

Warren also worked for Garner Motor Sales, Bock Oil Company,
Gibbs-Cook in Mason City, Howie's Implement for six years and
from 1970 to the present at Iowa Mold Tooling Company.

For 40 years, he maintained the Garner Memorial Building, the
United Presbyterian Church for 20 years and also the Garner Armory.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he had
served as an elder and Sunday school superintendent. He also
belonged to the Garner American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Quintus of Garner; four children,
Steven Quintus and his wife, Sandra, of Garner, Mary Suby and
her husband, Myron, of Garner, Alan Quintus and his wife, Lisa,
of Klemme, and Theresa Quintus of Des Moines; nine grandchildren,
Erin Quintus, Terra Quintus, Abraham Quintus, Samuel Quintus,
Sarah Suby, Laura Suby, Amanda Suby, Derek Quintus and Lindsay
Quintus; two sisters, Betty Aldinger and her husband, Rex, of

Funeral services for Elizabeth Jones will be held at 10 a.m.
Saturday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City.

Elizabeth Margaret Ruef Jones was born Aug. 30, 1909, at Salem,
Ore., the daughter of Fred and Edith Robinson Ruef.  She graduated
from Maple Hill (Iowa) High School and received a Bachelor of
Arts in Music and Education in 1931 from Coe College at Cedar
Rapids.  She taught music and English in public schools, first
through 12th grades at Lime Springs, Fonda and Grosse Pointe,
Mich. until 1941, when she and Melancthon Jones were married
on June 14, 1941, at Emmetsburg.  She was homemaker until 1963.
 When her children were old enough she began work for the North
Iowa Girl Scout Council as District Advisor training Girl Scout
leaders until retirement, a position she held for 17 years.

In Charles City she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist
Church, the United Methodist Women, the Eastern Star, Chapter
CY of the PEO Sisterhood, and the American Association of University
Women.  She and Melancthon had lived in Boise, Idaho since August,
1990.

Living family members include her husband, Melancthon Jones
of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Dr. Barbara Borg of Charleston,
S.C.; a son, Larry and his wife, Joyce Jones of Boise, Idaho;
four grandchildren, Rebecca Borg of Iowa City, Kristin Jones
of LaMirada, Calif., Jeremiah Jones and Meagan Jones of Boise,
Idaho; three sisters-in-law, Genevieve (Mrs. Benjamin) Ruef of
San Diego, Calif., Dorothy (Mrs. Everton) Jones of Sioux City,
and Louise (Mrs. Kennard) Jones of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; and
a brother-in-law, Dr. Kennard Jones of Gross Pointe, Mich.; and

Keith Dunton was born Jan. 26, 1916 in Poweshiek County, Iowa,

The family moved to North Iowa where he attended rural schools
and graduated from the Rock Falls High School.

He married Dorothy Thomason on March 28, 1937 at Brooklyn, Iowa.

He owned a business in Meservey and later Des Moines and following
retirement, moved to Naples, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Naples; a son, Gary and
his wife, Melva Dunton of Dexter, Iowa; a daughter, Deanna and
her husband, Marlin Daar of Johnston, Iowa; five grandchildren;

Wierd Gersema was born April 30, 1903, in rural Parkersburg,
Butler County, a son of Henrich and Christina (Behrends) Gersema,
and died Wednesday (Nov. 22, 1995) at his residence from complications
of age.

He received his education in the rural Butler County Schools
near Parkersburg and Kesley.

On Oct. 15, 1924, he was united in marriage to Charlotte H.
Abben at Faith Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Wierd and Lottie worked together for farmers in the Greene area
until 1927 when  they started farming on their own east of Greene.
They remained there for 17 years until they moved to Ulster Township
in Floyd County where they farmed for 30 years before retiring
in 1974 and moving into Marble Rock.

Wierd enjoyed every aspect of farming but took special interest
in his dairy cattle and livestock.

 After retiring and moving into town, he enjoyed gardening as
a pastime.

 Wierd and Lottie enjoyed each others company and spent many
evenings playing dominos.

He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Marble
Rock.

Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Lottie of Marble
Rock; one daughter, Ann and her husband, Lawrence Bohlen of Coolidge,
Ariz.; two sons, Lawrence W. and Nina Gersema of El Paso, Texas,
and Dale R. and Pat Gersema of Fort Worth, Texas; five granddaughters,
Cindi and Peter Haley of Belen, N.M.; Jan and Kilby Copeland
and Sandra St. Germain, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; Shari K. and
Manuel Rivera of Coolidge, Ariz.; Nila and William Newton of
El Paso, Texas; five great-grandchildren, David and Jason Copeland,

Jerry was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Mason City, the daughter of
Harry Milton and Thelma (McKibben) Cash.  She attended school
through the sixth grade in Fertile and then moved with her parents
to Laurens, where she graduated from high school in 1952.  She
then attended and graduated from Hamilton Business College in
Mason City.

She married Paul Hartwell on Dec. 3, 1953, at Clear Lake.  They
lived in Waterloo for three years then returned to Clear Lake
to live, where they lived ever since.

Jerry's greatest joy in life was being with her family.  She
enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles and latch hook.  She is a
member of Clear Lake Lioness and United Methodist Church, Clear
Lake.

Jerry is survived by her mother, Thelma Cash, Storm Lake; husband,
Paul Hartwell, Clear Lake; four children, Stephen Hartwell and
his wife, Keri, Iowa Falls; Kevin Hartwell and his wife, Julie,
Shakopee, Minn.; Paula Gerhardt and her husband, Ron, Clear Lake,
and Tracy Robinson and her husband, Roger, Mason City; two sisters,

Funeral services  will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Baptist
Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Bruce Rulapaugh officiating.
Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today  at Grarup Funeral
Home, Sheffield.

Walter Koester was born on May 8, 1912, on a farm southeast
of Rockwell to George and Meta (Ubben) Koester.

He attended a country school about two miles from home, graduating
from the eighth grade.

His early years were spent helping his parents with farm work
and later working for several farmers in the area.

He was married to Valois Ingraham on May 10, 1935, in the parsonage
of the Grace Baptist Church of Sheffield. The couple celebrated
their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

They had one son, Larry, born on March 23, 1938, who preceded
him in death.

They farmed southeast of Rockwell for several years, moving
to their farm northwest of Rockwell in 1940. They continued farming
until having a farm sale in December of 1972. They continued
living on the farm renting the land out until 1980 when they
moved to their present home in Rockwell.

Walter enjoyed farming. His hobbies were fishing and golfing.
The past several years, he has lost several good fishing and
golfing friends in death.

Walter and his wife spent many winters in Escondido, Calif.,
and the last three winters in Arizona.

He was a faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church of Sheffield
since 1924. He accepted the Lord at 12 years of age and was baptized
and joined the church.

He is survived by his wife, Valois of Rockwell; a daughter-in-law,
Naomi Koester of Palm Springs, Calif.; a sister, Helen Koester
at the Sheffield Care Center; a sister-in-law, Jennie Koester
of Oskaloosa; a sister-in-law, Velma Severe and her husband,
Lyle, of Rockwell; a nephew, Robert Koester and his wife, Marcia,
of Clear Lake; and their children; nieces, Linda Hage and her
husband, Jim, of Escanaba, Mich., Jane Lou and her husband, Sam;
their children, Michele and David of Libertyville, Ill. He also
is survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister
and one brother.

Harry Julian Lack, 81, died Sunday (Nov. 19, 1995) at the Faith
Home, Osage.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the First 
Congregational
Church, U.C.C., with the Rev. William B. Griffee officiating.
Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Champion Funeral
Home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Harry Julian Lack was born April 12, 1914, near Orchard.

Survivors include one daughter, Nedra Benson of Red Bluff, Calif.;
one son, Philip K. Lack of Fort Dodge; two brothers, Robert W.
Lack and Harold D. Lack, both of Orchard; two sisters, Blanche
Tresmer of Orchard and Marilyn Larson of Mission, Texas; two
granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers
and another brother in infancy.

CHARLES CITY 

Leone A. Poppe, 83, of Salsbury Baptist Home, and formerly
of Glendale, Calif., died Saturday (Nov. 18, 1995) at Floyd County
Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Riverside Cemetery.
The Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., is in charge
of arrangements.

Leone A. Poppe was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Greene.

Survivors include a daughter Marilynn Johnson of Mason City;
a son, Arthur Poppe of Mason City; a sister, Faith Allen of Charles
City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren

Martha M. McMullen
MASON CITY  

Martha M. McMullen, 79, of 808 Fifth St. S.E., died Thursday
(Nov. 23, 1995) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fullerton
Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City,
with the Rev. David Anderson of St. James Lutheran Church 
officiating.
Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Martha was born on April 11, 1916, a daughter of Ole P. and
Sarah Tomena (Apland) Olson.

She was employed in customer relations for Sears for over 25
years and retired in 1988.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Davis of New Hope, Minn.;
one son, Dan McMullen of Mason City; a special friend, Harold
Draeger of Mason City; one brother, Orville Olson of Hayward,
Wis.; and one granddaughter, Lisa Davis of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Paul
Olson.

Gladys Pate, 92, of Clarion, died Wednesday (Nov. 22, 1995)
at the Clarion Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in  the
Chapel of  Willim Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Kellogg
of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will
be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

the family being present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gladys Pate was born Oct. 13, 1903, in Clarion.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Labs of Webster City and
Shirley Bird of Reseda, Calif.; three grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Hinton of Centerville; and
one brother, Dell Ross of Clarion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers,
one sister and an infant daughter.
