MASON CITY

Harold H. Hartwig, 74, of 907 16th St. N.E., died Monday 
(Nov. 13, 1995)
at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Norman E.
Betke officiating and the Rev. Frederick J. Wood of Bethlehem
Lutheran Church, Mason City, officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel
Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will begin 5 p.m. Thursday at the Hogan Bremer Colonial
Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a 7 p.m. prayer service. There
will be further visitation one hour prior to services at the
church on Friday.

Harold H. Hartwig was born Aug. 6, 1921, in St. Ansgar, son
of Herman E. and Louise (Ruebe) Hartwig.

He married Verna Plath on Aug. 23, 1942, in St. Ansgar.

Harold grew up in St. Ansgar and farmed in the St. Ansgar area
until 1966, when he and his family moved to Mason City.

He then worked for Builders Supply until retiring.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping with his family.

He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar,
and a member of Bethlehem Luthran Church, Mason City.

Survivors include his wife, Verna Hartwig of Mason City; one
daughter, Marjory Daniels and her husband, Delmer of Mason City;
three sons, Gary Hartwig and his wife, Jean, of Northwood, David
Hartwig and his wife, Sue of Northwood, and Duane Hartwig and
his wife, Jeanne of Waverly; seven grandchildren, Stacy and Wendy
Daniels, both of Mason City, Tammy Charlson, of Kensett, Scott
Hartwig of Pesthigo, Wis., Todd Hartwig of Mondovi, Wis., and
Tim and Angela Hartwig, both of Northwood; and nine greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Ruth
Claus

Ida Hansen
ROCKWELL

Ida Hansen, 95, of Rockwell, died Monday (Nov. 13, 1995) at the
Rockwell Community Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her son
by three days.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Peter
Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Joseph A. Miller officiating.
Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation was held 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Fullerton Funeral
Home, 120 S. Third St., Rockwell.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may choose to make
memorials to the Ida Hansen memorial fund.

Ida was born one of 11 children to John and Helene (Lakemeinen)
Roggemann at Rockwell, on May 14, 1900.

She attended rural schools in Owen Township.

She was united in marriage to Cornelius ``Neil'' Hansen on Jan.
23, 1918 in Rockwell. To this union were born eight children.

She lived her entire life in the Rockwell area, farming with
her husband and later moving to Rockwell in 1946.

She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren who fondly called her
``Granny.''

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, an honorary member
of the WELCA, birthday club and the Rockwell Cemetery Association.

Ida is survived by four daughters, Deloris and her husband,
Gary Faught, Marjorie and her husband, David Faught, all of Mason
City, Erma and her husband, Robert Haarup of Hubbard, and Donna
and her husband, David Kruckenberg, of Rockwell; one sister,
Mrs. Jack (Helen) Shinn of Waterloo; one brother, Ed and his
wife, Betty, of Cedar Falls; a daughterinlaw, Kathleen Hansen
of Rockwell; a soninlaw, Junior Culver of Sheffield; 15 grandchildren,
Judy and her husband, Kenneth Proctor; Linda and her husband,
Kenneth Meyer; Christine and her husband, Kent Morton; Cecil
Jr. and his wife, Connie Hansen; Donald and his wife, Dawn Hansen;
Michael and his wife, Julie Hansen; Diane Quail; Debra Faught;
Cathy and her husband, Larry Scott; Vicki and her husband, Paul
Burgess; Randall Faught; Cheryl and her husband, Paul Luppen;
Jodi and her husband, John Degen; Jeanette and her husband, Gary
Sturges; Dawn and her husband, Joe Heimer; 30 greatgrandchildren;
and three greatgreatgrandchildren.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Neil in October of
1963; twins, Donald and Donnela; daughter, Darlene Culver; her
son, Cecil Hansen; two grandsons; one granddaughter; six brothers,
Albert, John, Bill, Charles, Hank, and Emil; and two sisters,
Emma Muhlstein and Ann Roggemann

Robert James Comer
CLEAR LAKE

Robert James Comer, 77, of 705 12th Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Saturday
(Nov. 11, 1995) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
WardVan Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.
The body was cremated and inurnment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home onehalf hour before Thursday's
services to greet friends. They suggest memorials may be made
to Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.

Robert was born March 31, 1918 in Farley, Iowa, the son of George
Edward and Olive M. (Lamb) Comer. He graduated from Dubuque Senior
High School in 1935. He also graduated from Bayless Business
College in Dubuque, Iowa.

He served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during
World War II. He devoted three and onehalf years of his life
to military service.

On Nov. 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Maybelle A. (Sammie)
Wilson in Spring Grove, Minn.

He was employed by National Cash Register (NCR) as a service
manager in Dubuque, Iowa for 20 years. He then transferred to
Duluth, Minn. for two years; Davenport, Iowa for one year; and
Cedar Rapids, Iowa two years. He began his own business, Comer
Cash Registers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He moved to Clear Lake in 1972 and was employed as an NCR cash
register salesman in Mason City from 1972 until his retirement
in 1983. He owned and operated Comer Cash Register until 1995.

His hobbies included gardening.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

While living in Dubuque, he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran
Church and a former member of that church council. He also served
as a member of the Board of Directors for the Martin Luther Home
in Dubuque.

He is survived by his wife, Maybelle (Sammie) Comer, of Clear
Lake; a daughter, Roberta Ann (Bobbi) Bruns, of Clear Lake; a
sister, Ruth McQuistan of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Robyn
Rae Davidson and her husband, David, of Clear Lake, and Paul
Robert Bruns of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kent Wilson
Comer; and three brothers, Dale Comer, Edward Comer, and Glen
Comer

Hilda M. Schwartz
MASON CITY

Hilda M. Schwartz, 72, of 2911 N. Carolina Ave., died Wednesday
(Nov. 8, 1995) at her home.

A memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy
Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City. Inurnment
will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery, Manly,
at a later date.

Her body was cremated. There will be no visitation. HoganBremer
Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Hilda M. Schwartz was born Aug. 6, 1923 in Mercer, Pa., daughter
of Joseph and Clara (Zimmerman) Mariacher.

She married Otto J. Schwartz on May 8, 1943 in Pardoe, Pa.

Hilda worked in partnership with her husband as a bookkeeper
and office manager for Otto's TV Service for 30 years. She then
was a cook for Newman High School for two years.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Otto Schwartz of Mason City;
one daughter, Rosemary Chodur and her husband, Dennis of Mason
City; three grandchildren, Douglas Chodur of Davenport, Debra
Wendschlag of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Daniel Chodur of Mason
City; one greatgrandson, Michael Wendschlag, Brooklyn Center,
Minn.; one brother, Joseph Mariacher of Lavonia, Ga.; and one
sister, Rosie Kolb of Fredonia, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and
one greatgranddaughter in infancy

WHITTEMORE

William C. Meyer, 79, of Whittemore, died Tuesday (Nov. 14, 1995) at
the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St.
Paul's Lutheran Church, Whittemore, with the Rev. Lyle Hansen
officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the
Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Whittemore.

William C. Meyer was born March 7, 1916 in Whittemore.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Meyer of Whittemore; three
sons, William Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Robert Meyer of Whittemore,
and Richard Meyer of Meridian, Idaho; one daughter, Linda Bargman
of Birmingham, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren;
one brother, Hugo Meyer of Whittemore; three sisters, Ella Lauck
of Whittemore, Frieda Lieb of Algona, and Selma Behnke of Marshfield,
Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and

Wayne A. Zeigler, 57, of Kanawha, died Tuesday (Nov. 14, 1995)
at One With Life, Ankeny.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Kanawha

Malena ``Minnie'' Sophia Swenson, 89, of Scarville, died Monday (Nov.
13, 1995) at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Scarville, with the Rev. Philip Peters officiating.
Burial will be in the Grant Township Cemetery, rural Woden.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mittelstadt
Funeral Home, Lake Mills and one hour prior to services at the
church.

Malena Swenson was born Sept. 18, 1906 in Grant Township, Woden.

Survivors include three daughters, Eleanor Hanna of Lake Mills,
Marilyn Smit of La Porte City, and Janice Wilt of La Porte City;
10 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Delores
Tweeten of Forest City, Evelyn Callies of Rochester, and Edna
Ree of Roswell, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers,
and one grandson.

Louise Clare Hansmeier, 87, of Crystal Lake, died Tuesday (Nov. 14,
1995) at the Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Suetterlin officiating.
Burial will be in the Crystal Lake Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30 until 8 p.m. today at the Ewing

Louise Clare Hansmeier was born Nov. 21, 1907 in Germany.

Survivors include three daughters, Viola Pottroff of Jefferson,
Evelyn Gold of Norwalk, and Mary Ree of Burt; one son, Vernon
Hansmeier of Forest City; 12 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren;
and one sister, Christiana Bauer of Wendlingen, Germany.

Richard Zeigler of Minot, N.D.; eight grandchildren; his mother,

Viola M. Norgren was born May 3, 1900, in Hampton.

Viola M. Norgren was a World War II veteran.

She was a member of the Hamline Methodist Church and the St.
Anthony Park O.E.S. No. 212, St. Paul.

Survivors include her husband, Charles B. Norgren of St. Anthony,
Minn.; one son, Charles B. Deeds and his wife, Aloma, of Searcy,
Ark.; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren
great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

at Presbyterian Hospital, Albuquerque, N.M.

officiating.
Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

Donald John Bollig was born Aug. 16, 1922, at Seneca.

Survivors include three sisters, Maxine Metzger, Estherville,
and Donna Muller and Betty Kollasch, both of Whittemore; and
one brother, Gordon Bollig, Bancroft.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three

John M. Powell, 83, died Thursday (Nov. 16, 1995) at GAR-LIN
House, Nora Springs.

His body has been donated to the University of Iowa Anatomical
Department for scientific purposes.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 30,
1995) at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., where
other arrangements are incomplete.

Hazel M. Frazier
MASON CITY  

Hazel M. Frazier, 96, of 2230 47th Ave., Kenosha, Wis., formerly
of Mason City, died Wednesday (Nov. 15, 1995) in Kenosha.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary
Alliance Church with the Rev. Daniel P. Conklin officiating.
Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and will continue one
hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

The family suggests memorials to the Hazel M. Frazier Memorial
Fund.

Hazel M. Frazier was born July 29, 1899, in Hampton, Iowa, a
daughter of Nels Peterson and Minnie (nee) Ashworth Peterson.  She
attended schools in Hampton.  After marrying Milton G. Frazier 
on Sept.
22, 1917, in Hampton, she invested almost 50 years of her life
in the farming business throughout the rural communities of 
North Iowa.

  She moved to Mason City in 1943 and resided there  until she
moved to Kenosha, Wis., in 1990 to make her home with her daughter,
Frances, and her family.  Hazel continually showed her love through
her God-given gift of writing cards and letters of encouragement.
 Her sweet spirit came from her faith in God and she touched
the lives of all her family and friends. 

``Our precious mother and grandmother was greatly loved and
will be missed.''

Hazel was a member of Calvary Alliance Church, Birthday Club
and Golden Ages and loved gardening, cooking, baking and her
church.

Survivors include her daughters, Mildred Crosby of Independence,
Kan., Frances Merfeld and her husband, Wayne, of Kenosha, Wis.,
and Dorothy Heinold and her husband, Ronald, of Mason City; two
sons, Leonard Frazier and his wife, Marian, of Northwood, and
Maurice Frazier and his wife, Marlene, of Glenville, Minn.; 19
grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grand
children;
and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, husband,  infant son,
Dewitt, and four sisters, Vera, Ethel, Frances and Anna.

Donald C. Riel, 80, died Wednesday (Nov. 15, 1995) at the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatien Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rosemary Rhode-Frank 
officiating.
Burial will be in  Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the Schumburg Funeral
Home.

Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Rockford; one daughter,
Charlene L. Jorgensen of Urbandale; one son, Ronald D. Riel of
Urbandale; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and five
brothers.

Max Aaron Stephens
MASON CITY  

Max Aaron Stephens, 75, formerly of Mason City, died Tuesday
(Nov. 14, 1995) at Lutheran Community Hospital, Norfolk, Neb.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family
Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with the Rev. Raymond A. Burkle
and the Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Cremation will
follow the service.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial
Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.

Max Aaron Stephens was born July 4, 1920, in Oelwein, a son
of Roy P. Stephens and Loretta (nee) Linder Stephens.  He married
Wanda Schaffer on Jan. 23, 1947, in Albert Lea, Minn.

Max grew up in Oelwein and at the age of 10 moved with his 
family  to Mason City.  He served in the Army during World War
II, and was stationed in the Philippines.  In January, 1947,
he joined the Mason City Police Department and retired as Captain
of Detectives in 1978.  He managed the City Employees Credit
Union for 43 years.  He and his wife moved to Norfolk, Neb.,
in 1994.

Max enjoyed fishing and traveling and loved spending time with
his grandchildren.  He was a lifetime member of  V.F.W. Post
733.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Stephens of Norfolk, Neb.;
five sons, Larry Stephens and his wife, Sandy, of Ridgecrest,
Calif., Tom Aldridge and his wife, Bobbie,  of Bloomington, Ill.,
Pat Stephens and his wife, Peggy,  of Omaha, Neb., Mike Stephens
and his wife, Laurie, of Mason City, and Steve Stephens of Norfolk,

Nell D. Lund, 79, formerly of Osage, died Wednesday (Nov. 15,
1995) at Mary Greeley Medical Center of natural causes.

Nell was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Grafton, N.D., a  daughter of
Harry Overly and Pheobe (nee) Garrell Overly.  Nell married
Eugene Lund Sr. on Jan. 20, 1942, in Grafton, N.D.  They farmed
near Sutherland, Iowa, until 1951, when they purchased a farm and
moved near Mitchell.
Following Eugene's death in 1991 Nell moved to Ames.  Nell was
employed as a clerk at Skaar Drug and the Economy Store.  She
was a member of the U of I's Women's Club.  Her hobbies included
fishing, knitting, playing cards, gardening and enjoyed traveling.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First
United Methodist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Clark Christian
officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the
Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and one hour prior to services
at the church.  Following the service her body is being donated
to the University of Iowa.  The family requests memorials be
made to the Oncology Unit at Mary Greeley Medical Center, 1111
Duff Ave., Ames, Iowa 50010.

Survivors include four sons, Eugene and his wife, Lan Lund,
of Ames, Larry and his wife, Lois Lund, of Orlando, Fla., Alan
and his wife, Ann Lund, of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Sidney and
his wife, Lisa Lund, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; nine grandchildren;

Noel C. Rummens, 27, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of the Corwith
area, died Nov. 10, 1995, as a result of injuries sustained in
an automobile accident near Donnelson.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 14 at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Michael Larkin officiating at
the Mass of Christian Burial.  Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery
near Hardy.  Sievers-Laufersweiler Funeral Home, Humboldt, was

Survivors include his parents, Bob Rummens and
Nancy (nee) Seger Rummens
of Mansfield, Mo.; his fiance, Valerie Smith of Columbia, Mo.;

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alan and Calvin.

He was born July 5, 1968, at Mason City.  As a youth, the family
lived on a farm near Corwith, where he attended the Corwith-Wesley
school.  In 1978 the family moved to Mansfield, Mo,. where he
graduated from Mansfield High School.  He attended the University
of Missouri at Columbia where he spent several years working
in the campus computer department.  He was employed by the the
Missouri Kidney Foundation until the time of his death.

Richard I. Burgraff, an insurance broker, died Monday, (Nov.
13, 1995) in Walnut Creek.  He was 70.

Richard I. Burgraff was born June 22, 1925.

The native of Mason City, Iowa, lived in Sacramento before
moving to Walnut Creek 30 years ago.

He was a broker for the Wausau Insurance Company for 25 years,
and a founder of Holton Associates, Inc. a business insurance
firm.

He was a graduate of Iowa State University   and an Army veteran
of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the 8th Air Force.

He was a member of the Bohemian Club and Hillcrest Congregational
Church.

He was a singer and a golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Barbara J. Burgraff
of Walnut Creek; sons,  Marc Burgraff of Nevada City, and Steven
Burgraff of San Diego; stepson, Randy Hay of Fort Wayne, Ind.;
brothers, Robert Burgraff of Deltona, Fla., and Ellsworth Burgraff
of Mason City, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Congregational
Church in Pleasant Hill.

Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary in Lafayette was in charge

Hazel M. Frazier was born July 29, 1899, in Hampton, Iowa, a
daughter of Nels and Minnie (Ashworth) Peterson.  She attended
schools in Hampton.  After marrying Milton G. Frazier on Sept.
22, 1917, in Hampton, she invested almost 50 years of her life
in the farming business throughout the rural communities of North
Iowa.

  She moved to Mason City in 1943 and resided there  until she
moved to Kenosha, Wis., in 1990 to make her home with her daughter,
Frances, and her family.  Hazel continually showed her love through
her God-given gift of writing cards and letters of encouragement.
 Her sweet spirit came from her faith in God and she touched
the lives of all her family and friends. 

``Our precious mother and grandmother was greatly loved and
will be missed.''

  Hazel was a member of Calvary Alliance Church, Birthday Club
and Golden Ages and loved gardening, cooking, baking and her
church.

Survivors include her daughters, Mildred Crosby of Independence,
Kan., Frances Merfeld and her husband, Wayne, of Kenosha, Wis.,
and Dorothy Heinold and her husband, Ronald, of Mason City; two
sons, Leonard Frazier and his wife, Marian, of Northwood, and
Maurice Frazier and his wife, Marlene, of Glenville, Minn.; 19

when he and his family moved to Mason City.

He worked at Ward's Farm Store and Massey-Fergerson and then
was self-employed operating Mason City Silo Repair Company. He
retired in 1988.

Roy enjoyed traveling and visiting his grandchildren.

He was a member of Gideon International and was active in First
United Methodist Church.

Peter P. Sewald was born April 12, 1917 in Sterling, Colo.,
the son of John and Margaret (Dillie) Sewald.  On May 3, 1937
he was united in marriage to Marie K. Mary in Sterling.  They
farmed in Sterling until they moved to the Mason City area in
1951 where they continued farming and where he was also employed
at Armour and Company for 13 1/2 years.  They moved to Fort 
Collins,
Colo. in 1971 after his retirement from Armour.  He volunteered
at the Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus.  His hobbies
included fishing, bowling, gardening, dancing, and handicrafts.
 He will be remembered for his hard work and love for his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marie K. Sewald of Fort Collins,
Colo.; sons, Frank Sewald of Fort Collins, Colo., Robert Sewald
of Denver, Colo., Peter Sewald of Colorado Springs, Colo., and
