CHYANN BANTA
May 15, 1998 -  January 25, 2014

Chyann Rynae Banta, age 15, of Forest City passed away Saturday January 25, 2014 near Crystal Lake as a result of injuries received in an auto accident.
Funeral services for Chyann Banta will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday February 1, 2014 at the Garner Hayfield High School Auditorium. Pastor Rod Hopp will officiate. Burial will take place in the Madison Township Cemetery south of Forest City.
Visitation for Chyann Banta will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday January 31, 2014 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Chyann Rynae, the daughter of Tom and Teya Zwierzycki Banta, was born May 15, 1998 in Minneapolis, MN. Chyann grew up in Garner and spent much valued time in Forest City. She was currently a Freshman at the Garner Hayfield High School. Bright eyed and gregarious, Chyann was a fun-loving typical American girl. She participated in volleyball and chorus. Chyann loved the Food Network. She cooked and baked often for her family and friends. The love and life she shared with her family, friends and especially, her sister, Tiffany, is a holy eternal bond. 
Chyann is survived by her mother, Teya (Jason) of Forest City, father, Tom (April) of Garner, grandparents, Linda Gannon of Forest City, Joe Zwierzycki (Barb) of Olive Hill, KY, Sandy Vestwebber (Dennis) of Leland, Lou Banta (Fran) of Belmond, great grandparents, Norma Jean Hoover of Wyoming, Wilhelmine Vestwebber of Belmond and numerous other loving aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

Tiffany Jean Banta, age 19, of Forest City passed away Saturday January 25, 2014 near Crystal Lake as a result of injuries received in an auto accident.

Tiffany attended school in Garner and graduated from the Garner Hayfield High School in 2012. While in high school, Tiffany participated in Cheerleading and Art. She was currently working at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. Tiffany was a good friend to all and a hard worker. She loved to listen to music and was a huge fan of Justin Bieber. The love and life she shared with her family, friends and especially her sister, Chyann, is a holy eternal bond.

STEVEN LEE GLADSON
May 4, 1959 - January 25, 2014

Steven Lee Gladson, 54 of Forest City died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family while under hospice care. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St. with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain-Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Visitation will be held 9:30 A.M. till service time at the funeral home on Tuesday. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Steven Gladson memorial fund in care of the family.

Steven Lee Gladson was born May 4, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Stanley Lee and Stella Louise (Pugh) Gladson. At the age of 6 the family moved to Dysart and Steve was raised there. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Carson Colorado for the next 7 years in the tank track mechanic and recovery unit. Steve enjoyed his time in the military and always took great pride in this.

On December 27, 1983 he married Kathy Fowler, they raised 4 children together. He and his family moved to Forest City in 1988, he started employment with Winnebago Industries and worked in several departments, plastics, warehouse and part sales. Steve loved his family and he especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events and also loved taking them fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was survived by his wife, Kathy of Forest City; children, Wendy (Kevin) Wickman of Fairfax, IA, Tammy Lyons of Forest City, Joshua Bohnstengel and fiancé Jen Nash of Forest City, Michael (Alison) Bohnstengel of Andalusia, IL; father, Stanley Gladson of West Plaines, MO; siblings, Shirley Morgan of Montezuma, IN, Stoney (Joyce) Gladson of Waterloo, IA, John (Carleen) Gladson of Federal Way, WA, Scott (Marie) Gladson of Dysart, IA, and Sandy (Ron) Haws of West Plaines, MO; seven grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother, Stella Gladson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of North Iowa for all the wonderful care and support they have received over the past month.

DOROTHY CHRISTENSEN
February 7, 1916 - February 9, 2014

Dorothy Christensen, 98, of Garner died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery south of Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials for Dorothy be given to the Garner United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Dorothy Christensen, the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Thomas) Keel, was born Feb. 7, 1916, on a farm west of Forest City. She attended Forest City Community Schools graduating in 1934. She shared honors with Miss Thelma Christensen as "Miss Forest City" in a 1934 beauty contest held at the Forest City Theater. On Sept. 1, 1935, she was married to Emil Alexander Christensen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They became the parents of five sons and made their home on the same farm Emil was born and raised on southeast of Hayfield. In 1988, they retired from farming and moved into Garner. Emil and Dorothy spent more than twenty winters vacationing in Florida. Dorothy enjoyed her family, fishing, traveling, reading and craftwork. She also loved to write and wrote a book called "Grandma Remembers."

Dorothy actively held many offices in the Hayfield Methodist Church. She was Promotion Secretary of the Algona District United Methodist Women's Society before it became the Mason City District. She was president of the Hancock County Federated Women's Club for two years, participated in Iowa Farm Bureau Women's activities and was a lifetime member of the Madison Ladies Progressive Club, the Hayfield G.G. Club and the Garfield-Madison Club. Dorothy was presently a member of the Garner United Methodist Church, the Welcome Sunday School class, UMW and the Esther Circle. She enjoyed collecting shells along the Gulf of Mexico and doing shell craftwork. Dorothy was a member of the St. Petersburg Florida Shell Club. In the local area, she gave many talks, entitled "Shells - Shells of Life" to various groups and organizations in the 1980s. She became known as "The Shell Lady."

Dorothy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger (Sharon) Christensen of Austin, Minn., Dick (Peggy) Christensen of Spring Hill, Fla., Don (Dotty) Christensen of Orlando, Fla., Keith Christensen of Forest City and James (Julie) Christensen of Issaquah, Wash.; fourteen grandchildren, Chad (Michele) Christensen of Wilton, Kellie (Tom) Wegner of Canton, Ga., Wade (Barbara) Christensen of Arvada, Colo., Rick Christensen of Leesburg, Fla., Robin (Rod) Morgan of Spring Hill, Fla., Tonya (Scott) Compton of Eustis, Fla., Sonya (Jay) Mulholland of Umatilla, Fla., Sara (Scott) Wagner of Indianapolis, Ind., Andrew (Majo) Christensen of Alicante, Spain, Heidi Weaver of Castle Rock, Colo., Jason (Patty) Christensen of Seattle, Wash., Staff Sergeant Joshua Christensen of Prince George, Va., Jenny Christensen of Waterford, Calif. and Jessica (Matthew) Brandt of Chanhassen, Minn.; two step-grandchildren, Kyle Lawson of Orlando, Fla. and Donna Lindsey of Orlando, Fla.; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

ELIZABETH M "BETTIE" ANDERSON
December 23, 1918 - February 2, 2014

Elizabeth M. “Bettie” Anderson, 95, of Britt was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, surrounded by family.

Funeral services for Bettie Anderson were held Thursday, Feb. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Britt Evangelical Free Church, 810 2nd Avenue North West in Britt with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and continued one hour prior to services at the church.

Bettie, the daughter of James and Daisy (Clark) Ross was born on Dec. 23, 1918. She graduated from Britt High School and worked for Northwestern Bell until the Britt office closed.

Bettie was united in marriage with Donald H. Anderson on Dec. 14, 1940, in Mason City. They were blessed with three sons, Don, Tom and Chuck. The couple made their home on the Anderson family farm until they moved to Britt upon their retirement in 1982.

Bettie was a true servant to the Lord and to her family. She was a member of the Britt Evangelical Free Church. For several years, she served as chairwoman for her church woman’s group known as FCWM. She was enthusiastic about raising money for missions and the ladies did so by embroidering dish towels and sewing baby quilts which then would be sold. She also devoted hundreds of hours tearing sheets to make bandages for a missionary hospital in Africa. For many years, she directed the church choir and sang in either a trio or duet.

Bettie’s hobbies were quilting, embroidery, flowers and she was an avid bird watcher. She will always be remembered as one who loved the Lord and also for her heartfelt welcomes, her contagious laugh, and her desire to be a good hostess. She is especially remembered for her chocolate chip cookies and her hot buttered popcorn.

Bettie is survived by her sons Don (Judy) Anderson and Chuck (Tonya) Anderson, all of Britt; five grandchildren: Brian (Stacy) Anderson and their daughters Abbigayle, Graciann, and Rozalyn of Waukee; Jodi (Jeff) Brown and their daughters Annelisa and Kylie of Albert Lea, Minn.; Eric Anderson, Kelly Anderson and Mitchel Anderson all of Britt; sisters-in-law Ruth Anderson of Peoria, Ill., Blanche Friedow of Britt and Marlys Bergstrom of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter-in-law Lorraine (Jim) Amelsberg and their family of Forest City; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bettie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald in 1985; her son Tom in 1974; granddaughter Heidi in 2006; grandson Adam in 1973; one sister Ireta Diebler and an infant brother Donald in 1922 along with numerous in-laws.

FILLMORE DONALD DALE
June 17, 1920 - January 31, 2014

Fillmore Donald Dale, son of Forest Dale and Roxie (Beach) Dale was born June 17, 1920, in Napier and passed from this life Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, at 93 years of age.

Don grew up in Boone County. He came from a large family and went to work to help provide for them. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was in the motor pool transporting heavy equipment for building runways for the Army Air Force.

His best friend in the Army was Clarence Yahnke, who said "you should meet my sister." Clarence introduced Don to Mary on their return, and when discharged at Ft. Sheridan, Ill., Mary typed his papers. They were united in marriage three months later on Jan. 3, 1946, in Richland Center, Wis. Their marriage was blessed with five children.

Don enjoyed being around young people whether it be at the skating rink they owned at Britt or driving the school bus at Osceola. They moved to a farm southeast of Osceola in 1970, where Don farmed and did custom spraying and enjoyed working with his cows on the farm. Don enjoyed being outdoors and was a hard worker. When not farming he enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, going to livestock auctions, playing the harmonica, visiting with people telling stories and going to eat at "Wrinkle City" as he called the Senior Center. He was a member of the Murray Baptist Church, the Herndon-Oehlert American Legion Post #157 in Woodburn and the Osceola V.F.W.

Those relatives who preceded Don in death were his parents, Forest and Roxie; son, John Dale; five brothers and four sisters, and a step-granddaughter.

Don leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Dale of Osceola; daughter, Kathy Dale of Mason City; son, Ross (Sally) Dale of Pella; daughter, Rebecca (Marty) Oehlert of Osceola; daughter, Judy (Dallas) Zander of Runnels; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Ruth) Dale of Indianola; sister-in-law, Betty (Robert) Dale of Indianola; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services were held at Kale Funeral Home - Osceola, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday Feb. 6, with Pastor Alex Bauman officiating.

The family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Kale Funeral Home.

Internment followed in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

ORLA JANE SMITH
January 25, 1941 - February 19, 2014

Orla Jane Smith, 73, of Garner died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 3 P.M., Sunday, February 23rd at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner.

Orla Jane Smith, the daughter of George and Elsie (De Boer) Andersen, was born January 25, 1941 at Buffalo Center. She attended school at Titonka and graduated from Montrose High School. On June 27, 1959 she was married to Arlo L. Smith. They lived in Germany for a few years while Arlo was in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge they moved to Montrose, Iowa and in 1980 to Garner. She had worked as an inspector at E.F. Johnson in Garner and Fleetguard in Lake Mills until her retirement. Orla Jane enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially, her grandchildren, shopping for shoes, roller skating, singing, dancing and going to the movies.

She was a member of Order of Eastern Star.

Orla Jane is survived by her four children and their families, Dane Smith of Waterloo, Shane Smith of Urbandale and his two children, Sinjin and Sage, Nickki (Michael) Oborny of Garner and their two sons, Skylar and Austin, and George (Tara) Smith of Garner and their three sons, Chase, Reece and Carson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Arlo, October 30, 2012.

DENNIS ROCKOW
December 5, 1949 - February 20, 2014

Dennis H. Rockow, 64, of Gatesville, TX, formerly of Garner, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Gatesville.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2 to 4 P.M., Sunday, March 2nd at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with a prayer service to follow by Rev. Carl Hedberg. Burial was at Bellwood Memorial Cemetery in Temple, Texas.

Dennis Harley Rockow, the son of Harley and Elsie (Ryan) Rockow, was born December 5, 1949 at Webster City. He was baptized at Vernon Lutheran Church in Dows in January of 1950. Dennis attended school at Ellsworth and graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1968. He continued his education at NIACC for a year prior to being drafted in the U.S. Army in 1969. Dennis served his country in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1971. He was married to Rosemary Roenfanz in 1972 and to this union three children were born, Eric, Jennifer and Charlie. Dennis farmed, drove truck and worked at Winnebago Industries. In 1989, he was transferred to Winnebago RV Center in Temple, TX. In 1991, he married Kathy Gill and they raised their children together. He retired from Kalyn-Sievert in May of 2012. Dennis and Kathy enjoyed years of camping trips, fishing and good old westerns. Dennis' friendly, out-going personality and knack for story-telling produced many long term friendships.

He was a member of American Legion Post 42 in Gatesville, TX.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Gatesville; three children, Eric (Natalie) Rockow and their children, Brady and Weatherby of Gatesville, Jennifer Brooks of Phoenix, AZ and Charlie (Krista) Rockow and their children, Zane and Conner, of Cushing, OK; step-children, Chris (Lori) High of Gatesville, Chevi (J.J.) Atterbury of Gatesville and Clifton (Shera) Gill of Crestview, FL; several step-grandchildren; step-father, Wilbur Schroeder of Dows; two brothers, Greg (Lila) Rockow of Dows and Gary (Sharon) Rockow of Klemme; a sister, Marcia Hamilton of Gardnerville, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Elsie Rockow.


SHARON DAVISON
November 30, 1935 - February 18, 2014

Sharon Lynn DavisonSharon L. Davison, 78, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

A funeral service for Sharon will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with Reverend Brian Lund of Zion Evangelical & Reform Church in Garner officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 18 West, Mason City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the chapel.

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorial contribution to Hospice of North Iowa.

Sharon L. Davison was born on November 30, 1935, in Mason City, the daughter of Joseph C. and Lavone Storck Davison. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural school in Hancock County and graduated from Britt High School in 1955.

Following high school graduation, Sharon worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company at Garner. In 1956, she moved to California and was employed by Proto Tool Company, Rockwell International and retired after 25 years with Boeing Aircraft Corporation. Upon retirement she moved back to Clear Lake and was employed by Ron Weber Associates for several years.

Sharon was a talented seamstress and enjoyed oil painting. She had artistic talents and always had an appreciation for art work. Family events and gatherings were important to her and she always looked forward to them. Sharon was a proud aunt of all her nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Joseph Davison of Mary Esther, FL, and Willis (Jane) Davison of Garner; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Davison of Garner; her nephews and nieces, Christopher (Kristi) Davison, Wendell (Brenda) Davison, Susan (Jeff) Reising, Sara Gormley, Julia (David) Gillespie, Robert (Jamie) Davison, Victoria Davison, Timothy (Amy) Davison, and Jill Davison; her great nephews and nieces, Drew (Lauren) Davison, Collin (Kristin) Davison, Ryan (Kristen) Davison, Leah, Luke and Taylor Reising, Katherine and Dean Gormley, Jacob, Samara, Sophia, and Willis Gillespie, Ashlee, Christina and Jenna Davison, and August and Emma Davison; great-great nephews are Preston, Kaleb and Drake Davison; and a great-great niece, Kennedy Davison; as well as other extended relatives and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Victor Davison; sister, Nancy Davison; and a sister-in-law, Coleen Davison.
