Rosetta Aitchison, 1918-2010

June 9, 2010

Rosetta “Rosie” Aitchison, 91, of Ventura, died on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 5, 2010, at the United Methodist Church, Ventura. The Reverend Donald E. Preston officiated. Interment was in the Amsterdam Cemetery, Kanawha, Iowa.

Rosetta was born on December 12, 1918, the daughter of Andrew and Clara (Omvig) Brown at Britt, Iowa. She attended rural school in the Britt area. Rosetta married Merwin Edward Aitchison on September 14, 1936, at Britt and they farmed in the Corwith area. They moved to a farm north of Ventura in 1948 where they farmed until 1962, then moved to their present home in Ventura.

Rosetta enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, feeding the birds, picnics, going to dances and playing solitaire. She was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her two children, Shirley Mathews of Clear Lake and Dwight (Janis) Aitchison of Lakeville, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Debra Cohrs, Vickie Meling, Doug Meling, Scott (Terese) Meling, Brent Aitchison and Tara (Tyler) Cooper; four great-grandchildren, Teresa Bergan, Travis Campbell, Tiffany Campbell and Tyrelle Campbell; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Jefferson Davis, Joslyn Davis, Summer Schaer, Devon Campbell, Ava Campbell, Jordyn Callaway and Cade Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Donald Mathews; one brother; three sisters; and great-great-grandson, Jayden Callaway.

Elwin O. Weaver, 1926-2010

June 16, 2010

Elwin O. Weaver, 83, of Garner, died on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner, with Pastor James Allard, Hospice of North Iowa Chaplain officiating. Burial was in the Concord Township Cemetery.

The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Elwin Orley Weaver, the son of Louis and Lydia (Greiman) Weaver, was born on August 29, 1926, on the family farm south of Garner. He attended the rural schools of Ell Township and graduated from the Garner High School in 1944. On November 27, 1948, he married Florence Renberg in Clear Lake. They farmed south of Garner all of their married life. In 1986, Elwin and Florence moved into Garner.

Elwin, also known as "Walleye", enjoyed traveling and spending summers at his cabin in Ontario fishing. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and served on the consistory. Elwin also was a 4-H Leader and served on the elevator board in Garner.

Elwin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence of Garner; children, Craig (Lois) Weaver of Garner, Kim Weaver of Forest City, Jayne (John) Phillips of Waukee and Brent (Rosemary) Weaver of Garner; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice Maryhew; brothers, Emory, Wiley and Fredrick Weaver; sisters-in-law, Violet and Evelyn Weaver; and brother-in-law, Robert Maryhew.

De Etta H. Hauge, 1924-2010

June 16, 2010

BIGFORK, Montana-De Etta H. Hauge, 85, died on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at her home in Bigfork, Montana.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Miller.

De Etta was born on July 20, 1924, in Eyota, Minnesota, to Carl and Theresa Clasen. She was raised in Lake Mills and married Arthur Hauge on May 15, 1943 in Lewiston, Idaho. They made their home in Garner. After the death of her husband, she moved to Montana to live with her daughter, Penny.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Jason Durham; sister, Ruby Hittesdorf; and brother, Roland Clasen.

De Etta is survived by her children and their spouses, Aloise (Ed Watson) Hauge, Iona (Glenn) Rozenberg, Penny (Gordon) Durham, Berlin (Sue) Hauge and Marty (Jena) Hauge; grandchildren, Stephanie Davis, Christine Hubbard, Deborah Wright, Laura Dodd, Jackie Adair, T.J. Davis, Christopher Schweitzer, Lee, Eddie, Butch Jr. and Michael Hauge, DeEtta Williams, Suzanne Galloway and Evie Hauge; great-grandchildren, Josh and Ashley Hubbard, Maddison, Robert and Anthony Wright, Heather Williams, Amanda Nichols, Benjamin and Jackson Galloway, Kiya Dodd, Christina, Newdearia, Lee Jr, Cameron, Madison, Mallory, Emma, Mason, Malon, Reagan and Chloe Hauge; and one great-great-grandson, Jayden; siblings, Robert Clasen, Ina Mae Maxwell, Hazel Koll, Don Clasen, Mike Clasen, Marlene Prohaska, Jim Clasen and David Clasen; and many nieces and nephews.

Karen Kofron, 1942-2010

July 21, 2010

Karen L. Kofron, 68, of Stockton, California, died on Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Wagner Heights Residential Care Facility in Stockton.

Funeral services and interment of her cremated remains in the Concord Township Cemetery in Garner, are to be held this autumn at a date to be determined by her family and friends. Pastor and brother, Duane Jass will officiate.

Karen Louise Jass, the daughter of Arthur and Charlotte (Hartzell) Jass, was born on May 13, 1942 in Mason City. She graduated from the Garner High School in 1960 and subsequently trained as an operating room technician at the St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Karen later moved to Montana where she worked and resided until 1975, when she was disabled with severe injuries in a snowmobile accident. Her recovery and care resulted in her eventual move to the home her parents had established in Stockton, California, after Arthur's retirement as Garner's water commissioner.

Karen was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Stockton and enjoyed the benefit of many close friends and family.

Karen is survived by her brothers, Don (Jackie) Jass of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Duane (Nancy) Jass of Mosinee, Wisconsin and Chuck (Cheryl) Jass of San Diego, California; sisters, Karla (Stan) Carson of Stockton, California and Val Jass of Omaha, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Charlotte (Hartzell) Jass.

Ruby L. Lenz, 1919-2010

June 30, 2010

Ruby L. Lenz, 94, of Garner, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, June 28, at the Peace Reformed Church south of Garner, with Rev. Harvey Opp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruby Lorraine Lenz, the daughter Martin and Hilda (Evenson) Nielsen, was born on April 8, 1916 at Miller. After the death of her mother in 1918, the family moved to Forest City. Ruby graduated from the Forest City High School in 1933 and then worked at Graham's Store in Forest City. On November 15, 1938, she was married to Clarence Lenz at his parent's home south of Garner. They farmed south of Garner until they retired in 1984 and moved into town. In 1999, Ruby moved to the Prairie View Apartments and in 2005 to the Concord Care Center.

She enjoyed traveling, photography, hand work and crocheting. Ruby greatly enjoyed and loved her family. She was a member of the Peace Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society.

Ruby is survived by her son, Garold "Gary" Lenz and his wife, Shirley of Garner; two grandchildren, Sue Daellenbach and her husband, David of Henderson, Nevada and Steven Lenz and his wife, Vickie of Garner; two great-grandchildren, Nalani Rood and her husband, David and their children of Mason City and Holly Lenz of Ames; her sister-in-law, Lois Huenemann of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 1995; her parents; sister, Pearl Golbuff; and brother, Maynard Nielsen.

Betty Fox, 1927-2010

June 30, 2010

Betty Fox, 83, of Britt, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m., at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Betty, the daughter of Aaron and Bessie (Kurtz) Greiman, was born on April 18, 1927 in Klemme. She attended the Garner High School. Betty was united in marriage with Larry E. Fox on April 14, 1946 in Britt. The couple made their home in Britt. For the past three years Betty was a resident of the Concord Care Assisted Living facilities in Garner.

Betty enjoyed, spending time with her loving family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed caring for her flower gardens, making crafts and baking. Betty was a member of the Britt United Methodist Church and the Britt American Legion Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by three children and their families, daughter, Kathy (David) Davis of Pensacola, Florida and their children, Tammy (Larry) Anderson, Brent (Tammy) Huisinga and Angie O'Brien; daughter, Karen (Daryl) Brunsen of Crystal Lake and their children, Sheila Warrick and Eric (Laura) Brunsen; son, Gary (Sandy) Fox of Mason City and their children, Jason (Amy) Fox and Jennifer (Dane) Bjugan; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Ann (Lewis) Formanek of Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Larry on October 10, 1985.
