Dorance
E. E. “Buck” Rosendahl, 80, of
Clear Lake, died on Easter
Sunday, April 4, 2010, at the
Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake,
Iowa.
Funeral services
will be held at 10:00 a.m., on
Friday, April 9, at the Redeemer
Lutheran Church, Ventura, with
Rev. Daird Korth officiating.
Visitation will be held on
Thursday, from 5-7:30 p.m., at
the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake. Interment
will be in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, with
Military Honors provided by the
Clear Lake V.F.W.
Dorance was born on December 17,
1929, on a farm near Garner,
Iowa, to Ervin and Alma (Lauden)
Rosendahl. He was baptized and
confirmed at the Peace Reformed
Church near Garner. In 1936, his
family moved to a farm near
Ventura, where he attended
school and graduated from the
Ventura High School in 1948. In
1950, he married Marilyn Olson
and they began their life
together. In August 1952 Dorance
entered the U.S. Army and served
18 months in Japan before being
called home early to help his
father. He began his farming
career in 1954 and retired in
1991.
Dorance was a member of the
Redeemer Lutheran Church in
Ventura, where he served his
Lord in many capacities
including deacon, trustee,
Sunday School teacher and usher.
He also served his community for
many years as a school board
member, Hancock Co. Coop board
member and Farm Bureau board
member. He also was a leader for
the Ventura Hustlers 4-H Club
and a lifetime Farm Bureau
member. He and Marilyn moved to
their retirement home in Clear
Lake in 1988 where he enjoyed
many activities such as
traveling, golfing, boating,
fishing and woodworking. They
also enjoyed wintering at Orange
Beach, Alabama.
Dorance is survived by four
children, David Rosendahl and
his wife, Connie of Ventura,
Lynne Rosendahl and his wife,
Mary of Clear Lake, Beth Johnson
and her husband, Randy of Clear
Lake and Jane Martin and her
fiancée, Adrian Williams of
Nashville, Tennessee;
grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer)
Rosendahl of Shawnee Mission,
Kansas, Kenneth Rosendahl of St.
Louis, Missouri, Adam (Anna)
Rosendahl of 29 Palms,
California, Angela Rosendahl of
Jacksonville, Florida and Andrew
(Joan) Rosendahl of Atsugi,
Japan; step-grandson, Matthew
(Cara) Wegner of Washington, DC;
step-granddaughters, Lisa (Jobe)
Brogden of Boone, Melissa Martin
and her special friend, Eric
Hayes of Nashville, Tennessee
and Ann Casey Martin of
Knoxville, Tennessee and Brett
McMahan of Maryville, Tennessee;
great-grandchildren, Abigail,
Oliver, Eli, Alexis and Aiden
Rosendahl; three
step-great-grandchildren, Kallie
Brogden, Ross and Claire Wegner;
brother, Glen Rosendahl and his
wife, Jean of Salem, Virginia;
sister, LuElla Pitkin of
Andrews, Texas; sister-in-law,
Phylliss Rosendahl of Mason
City; and many nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
Dorance was preceded in death by
his parents; wife, Marilyn on
December 10, 2006; brother,
Marvin Rosendahl;
brother-in-law, Curtis Pitkin.

Lila M. Meyer, 1915-2010
April 14, 2010
Lila M. Meyer, 94, of Garner,
died on Wednesday, April 7,
2010, at the Concord Care Center
in Garner.
Funeral services were held at
10:30 a.m., on Friday, at the
United Methodist Church in
Garner, with Rev. Tim
Rieckhoff-Faris officiating.
Burial was in the Concord
Township Cemetery. The Cataldo
Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
Lila Mabel Meyer, the daughter
of Julius and Minnie (Patet)
Meyer, was born on December 18,
1915 at Hayfield. She graduated
from the Hayfield Consolidated
High School in 1933. Lila worked
on the family farm until 1952,
when she began working for the
Iowa Electric and Light Power
Company. She retired in November
of 1977 and made her home in
Garner with the exception of
five years when she lived at
Mason City with her nephew and
his wife, Allan and Mary Louise
Peterson. In November of 1992,
she moved to the Prairie View
Apartments and in June of 2008
to the Concord Care Center.
Lila enjoyed her
family, friends and playing
dominoes and cards. She was a
member of the United Methodist
Church in Garner and UMW.
Lila is survived by two nephews,
Allan (Mary Louise) Peterson of
Mobile, Alabama and Gaylon (Ann)
Peterson of Miami, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; and two sisters, Lillie
Andersen and Letha Peterson.

Esther Block Goche, 1917-2010

Esther
Block Goche, 92, of Garner, died
on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at
the Concord Care Center in
Garner.
Funeral services were held at
10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, at the
St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Garner, with the Rev. Dale
Glawatz officiating. Burial was
in the Concord Township Cemetery
in Garner. The Cataldo Funeral
Home was in charge of the
arrangements. Memorials may be
made to the St. Paul Lutheran
Church Foundation or to the
Hospice of North Iowa.
Esther Block Goche, the daughter
of Herman and Eva (Borchers)
Folkerts, was born on November
13, 1917 near Kanawha. She was
baptized and confirmed in the
Christian faith. As a child she
lived in the Kanawha, Thompson
and Elmore, Minnesota areas. On
January 28, 1937, she was
married to Lawrence Block. They
lived on a farm north of Garner
until 1943, when they moved to a
farm east of Klemme. In 1965,
they moved into Garner. On June
14, 1972, Lawrence passed away.
Esther then worked at the
Prairie View Apartments in
Garner for several years where
she met and married Walter Goche
on January 6, 1978. After Walter
passed away in 1996, she
continued to live in Garner.
Esther became a resident of the
Concord Care Center in 2003.
She enjoyed
gardening, sewing, baking,
babysitting, crocheting and
embroidering. She was a member
of the St. Paul Lutheran Church,
where she was a past member of
the Ladies Aid. She was also a
past member of the Klemme Music
Mothers.
Esther is survived by her two
children, Harlan (Sandy) Block
of Klemme and Lois Eenhuis of
Garner; grandchildren, Brian
(Cindy) Eenhuis and their
children, Alexa and Taylor of
Melbourne, Florida, Bruce
Eenhuis of Melbourne, Florida,
Brad (Stephanie) Eenhuis and
their daughter, Eva of Iowa City
and Nathan (Kathleen) Block and
their children, Ashley, Carter,
Tyler, Caleb and Trevor of
Waukon; step-children, Jane
Shroyer of Fremont, Nebraska,
Florence Hammer of Forest City,
Joanne (Cecil) Wirth of Forest
City, Doris Goche of Lochbruie,
Colorado, Linda (Richard)
Reinhart of Corpus Christi,
Texas, Dean (Karen) Goche of
Farmington, Minnesota and
Marilyn (Brian) Shattuck of
Milford, New Hampshire; many
step-grandchildren; and many
step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; both husbands; an
infant son, Harold in 1939; a
brother, Harvey (Leona)
Folkerts; step-sons, Lawrence
and Donald Goche; and
step-sons-in-law, Robert
Shroyer, Richard Hammer and
Jerry Bradley.

Susan D. Strange, 1945-2010

Susan
Diane Strange, passed away on
Friday, April 16, 2010, at her
home in Azle, Texas.
She will be
cremated and her remains will be
returned to her hometown of
Garner, Iowa. A memorial service
was held on Tuesday, April 20,
at the Guardian Funeral Home.
The Rev. Don Mckee officiated. A
graveside memorial service will
be held in Iowa at a later date.
Sue was born on
September 7, 1945 in Forest
City, Iowa, to Joe V. and Dewie
Schultz. She loved her family
and had many friends. Sue loved
making and painting crafts. She
loved to travel and especially
enjoyed her trips to Northern
Ireland to see her extended
family. She will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
She is survived
by her loving husband, John; her
daughters, Heather Ross and Kim
Gibson; her granddaughter,
Marissa Gibson of Texas; her
sister, Judy Wetterling and
fiancée, Ray Ryerson; her
brother, Tom Schultz and wife,
Julia, all of Iowa.
She will be
missed by her family, aunts and
many nieces and nephews. She
will be missed by her special
friends, Sue Rice and family,
and Vi and Nick Schaeffer.
She was preceded
in death by her parents;
brother, Gary Schultz;
step-father, Asa Gibbs; and her
grandparents.
In lieu of
flowers, contributions to
pancreatic cancer research are
welcome.

Doris I. Greimann, 1922-2010

Doris
I. Greimann, 88, of Garner, died
on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at
the Concord Care Center in
Garner.
Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April
21, at the Peace Reformed Church
south of Garner, with Rev.
Harvey Opp officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation was held from 5-8:00
p.m., on Tuesday, at the Cataldo
Funeral Chapel in Garner.
Visitation will continue one
hour prior to the services at
the church.
Doris Irene Greimann, the
daughter of Frederick and Martha
(Hartbeck) Barz, was born on
January 28, 1922, on a farm
northeast of Klemme. She was
baptized and confirmed at the
Klemme Immanuel Reformed Church.
Doris graduated from the Klemme
High School in 1938 and
continued her education at Iowa
State Teacher's College in Cedar
Falls and then taught in the
rural schools of Hancock County.
On November 9, 1941, she was
married to Eugene Greimann at
the Klemme Immanuel Reformed
Church. Following their
marriage, they began farming on
her parents' farm near Klemme
and continued to live there
until 1997, when they moved into
their home in Garner.
She was a member of Peace
Reformed Church where she was an
officer of the Women's
Missionary Society, chairman of
the church dedication, chairman
of the church's centennial
celebration, taught Sunday
School and was a member and
officer of O.D.O. Homemaker's
Club.
Doris is survived by her
husband, Eugene of Garner; three
children, Lowell (Jennie)
Greimann of Ames, Janette
(Arthur) Hoffman of Owatonna,
Minnesota and Janelle Bremer of
Dyer, Indiana; seven
grandchildren, Chad (Chris)
Greimann, Amy (Winston) Trotter,
Blair (Angie) Greimann, Michelle
(Dale) Simon, Kelly (Brian)
Schultz, Trent (Paula) Bremer
and Janna (Darren) Van Essen;
nineteen great-grandchildren;
and two sisters-in-law, Gladys
Barz of Garner and Emma Palmby
of Garner.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; daughter, Kathleen Ann
Greimann on November 22, 2008;
daughter-in-law, Jane Renner
Greimann in 2006; brothers,
Harvey, Marvin and Ronald Barz;
sister, Ella Rosendahl;
sister-in-law, Mabel Barz; and a
brother-in-law, Walter
Rosendahl.

Hilda C. Bell, 1913-2010

Hilda
C. Bell, 96, of Garner, died on
Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at
the Concord Care Center in
Garner.
Funeral services were held at
10:30 a.m., on Saturday, at the
United Methodist Church in
Garner, with Rev. Tim
Rieckhoff-Faris officiating.
Burial was in the Concord
Township Cemetery. The Cataldo
Funeral was in charge of the
arrangements.
Hilda Charlotte Bell, the
daughter of August and Rosa
(Bredlow) Kropp, was born on
August 22, 1913, on a farm
southwest of Garner. She
graduated from the Garner High
School in 1933. After graduation
she worked for Goodrich and
Bethke in Garner. On September
19, 1939, she was married to
Kenneth E. Bell at Klemme. They
lived on a farm southeast of
Klemme until 1942 when they
moved into Garner. Hilda worked
various jobs in the Garner area,
including the Prairie View
Apartments from where she
retired at the age of 78. In
2004, she moved from her home to
Prairie View and in 2006 entered
the Concord Care Center.
She enjoyed her
family, crocheting, gardening,
baking chocolate cookies and
playing bingo and cards. She was
a member of the United Methodist
Church in Garner, UMW and
belonged to a women's bowling
league for many years.
Hilda is survived by her two
sons, Don (Bette) Bell of Garner
and Larry (Jean) Bell of Garner;
six grandchildren, Vicky Bell of
Mason City, Blaine (Jennifer)
Bell and their two sons, Carson
and Grant of Fitchburg,
Wisconsin, Scott Bell and his
two children, Kenny and Allison
of Garner, Boyd (Andrea) Bell
and their two children, Libby
and Sam of Erie, Colorado, Tracy
(Mark) Remmes and their two
sons, Jacob and Nicholas of Eden
Prairie, Minnesota and Kristy
(Travis) Bierle of Nevada; a
sister, Viola Kropp of Garner;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Kenneth on October 6,
1990; her parents; sisters,
Lucille Drugg, Relma Finn and
Neva Hartzell; and brothers,
Gilbert, Barney, Orville and
Lester Kropp.
