Glenn A. Schlawin, 86, of
Garner, died on Thursday, August
1, 2002, at the Concord Care
Center, Garner.
Funeral services
were held at 10:30 a.m., on
Saturday, August 3, at the Peace
Reformed Church, with the Rev.
Jeff DeBoer officiating. Music
was provided by organist, Connie
Greiman who accompanied
congregational hymns. Ushers
were Jerry Kropp and Bill Katter
Sr.
Casket bearers
were Elwin Etchen, Craig
Schlawin, Dean Stromer, Scott
Ollenburg, Dan Ollenburg and Jim
Jorgensen. Interment was in the
church cemetery. The Cataldo
Funeral Home of Garner was in
charge of the arrangements.
Glenn Alfred
Schlawin, the son of Reinhold
and Esther (Greiman) Schlawin,
was born on July 15, 1916, on a
farm southwest of Klemme. He
attended the rural schools of
Hancock County. Glenn farmed
with his family and helped other
farmers in the area.
On August 3,
1946, he married Kathleen
Mercedes Felland at the Peace
Reformed Church south of Garner.

Howard D. Anderson, 1914-2002
August 13, 2002
Howard D. Anderson, 61, of rural
Goodell, died unexpectedly on
Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the
Belmond Medical Center, Belmond.
Funeral services were held on
Friday, August 9, at 11:00 a.m.,
at the United Methodist Church
in Klemme, with the Rev. Paddy
Druhl officiating. Visitation
was held at the Tenold-Andrews
Funeral Home, Klemme. Burial
will be in the Amsterdam
Cemetery, Goodell, at a later
date.
Howard Dean
Anderson, the son of Elmer and
Esther (Harberts) Anderson, was
born on April 19, 1914, on his
parents farm in rural Hancock
County.
On January 14,
1984, he married Sherri Krueger
at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. Since their marriage,
the couple have lived and raised
their daughters on the farm in
Goodell.

Jessie Stripling, 1906-2002
August 13, 2002
Jessie B. H. Stripling, died on
Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at
the Good Samaritan Center in
Algona. She was 96.
Funeral services
were held on Saturday, August
10, at the Zion Lutheran Church
of LuVerne, Iowa. The Rev. Mark
Peterson officiated. Music was
provided by organist, Lori
Woodruff who accompanied several
congregational hymns. Burial was
in the LuVerne Cemetery. The
Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf
Funeral Home of LuVerne was in
charge of the arrangements.
Casket bearers
were Craig Stripling, Jeff
Stripling, Nick Tobey, John
Kassel, Kerry Joe Stripling,
Steve Stripling, Mark Arends and
M. J. Stripling. Honorary
bearers were Deb Pugh, Stacia
McGrif, Chad Tobey, Lori
Woodruff, Sara Lang, Danny
Kassel, Stephanie Bianco, Scott
Stripling, Joni Torkelson, Jodi
Evans, Jennifer Stripling, Pam
Goodfellow and Jeremy Kassel.
Jessie Beatrice
Helen Stripling, was born on
April 9, 1906 at Bancroft. She
was the daughter of Henry and
Ella (Tasker) Clement. She was
baptized on April 7, 1912 at
Hettinger, North Dakota. She
graduated from the Bancroft High
school and then attended Normal
School where she earned her
Teacher's Certificate. She
taught country school one year
at the Center School near
LuVerne.
On December 25,
1926, Jessie Tasker and Michael
J. Stripling were married at the
Presbyterian Church in Algona.
She was Confirmed on November 6,
1931 at the Zion Lutheran
Church. The couple farmed
southwest of LuVerne until 1937.
They purchased a farm north of
LuVerne where they farmed until
the death of her husband in
1950. Mrs. Stripling moved into
LuVerne in 1952, where she was
employed as cook for the LuVerne
School for 18 years. She retired
in 1970.

Clifton William "Kisty" Endriss,
1914-2002
August 13, 2002
Clifton William "Kisty" Endriss,
87, of Sheffield, died on
Thursday, August 8, 2002, at the
Sheffield Care Center. He was
87.
Memorial services
will be held at 11:00 a.m., on
Saturday, August 17, at the
First Baptist Church in
Sheffield, with Military
Graveside Services following at
the Hillside Cemetery, by the
American Legion Harlow Ray
Massee Post #277. The family
will greet friends at the church
from 9:30 until time of the
service.
Clifton was born
on October 24, 1914, the son of
William and Mae (Stoddard)
Endriss. At a young age he began
to work for the Rock Island
Railroad and continued to work
for the railroad after he
graduated from the Sheffield
High School. He worked for the
railroad approximately 14 years
prior to WW II.
In 1932, Clifton
was married to Agnes Gamble and
to this union 4 children were
born. Kisty enlisted in the U.S.
Army and served in Europe for 2
years. He returned to Sheffield
following the war and began
working at the Sheffield Brick
and Tile.
In 1972 Kisty married Peggy
Nichols. He retired from the
Sheffield Brick and Tile in 1980
and remained in Sheffield. In
1991 he married Gladys "Cindy"
Stanley.

Rev. James Albertson, 1918-2002
August 13, 2002
The Rev. James E. Albertson, of
Fort Dodge, former pastor of the
Klemme United Methodist Church,
died on Friday, August 9, 2002.
He was 84.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, August 13,
at the United Methodist Church
of Forest City. The Rev. Gary
Marzolf officiated. Music was
provided by organist, Bonnie
Peterson who accompanied several
congregational hymns. Burial was
in the Oakland Cemetery, Forest
City. The Petersen Funeral Home
was in charge of the
arrangements.
James E.
Albertson, was born in Forest
City on April 28, 1918. He was
the son of George and Bertha
(Hanna) Albertson. He graduated
from the Forest City High School
and continued his education at
Evanston Colliegent Institute of
Evanston, Illinois and the
Adrian College in Adrian,
Michigan. He received his
Divinity Degree from Oberlin
College in Oberlin, Ohio.
On June 15, 1942,
James married Jean Voss at Port
Huron, Michigan. Pastor
Albertson served several
churches in Iowa including
congregations at Havelock, Ware,
Titonka, Doan, Sibley, Dysart,
Klemme, Liberty, Rockwell City
and Cherokee.
The couple then moved to
Humboldt where he became
Director of Development for
Friendship Haven of Fort Dodge.

Minnie E. Davidson, 1892-2002
August 13, 2002
Minnie E. Davidson, of LuVerne,
died on Friday, August 9, 2002,
at the Good Samaritan Center in
Algona. She was 109.
Funeral services
were held on Monday, August 12,
at the United Methodist Church
of LuVerne. The Rev. Dale
Reisner officiated. Music was
provided by organist, Dennis
Holmes who accompanied soloist,
Dan Smith and several
congregational hymns.
Burial was in the
LuVerne Cemetery. Casket bearers
were Tom Froehlich, Ralph
Davidson, William Wickett, Lee
Froehlich, Marlin Gregerson and
LeRoy Weber. The
Gerry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf
Funeral Home of LuVerne was in
charge of the arrangements.
Minnie Esther
Davidson, was born on December
18, 1892 at Bogota, Illinois, to
John and Lucinda (Shew) Chesnut.
She was the seventh child of a
family of 11. She attended
country school to the eighth
grade.
She was married
to Ralph T. Davidson on December
23, 1914 in Newton, Illinois.
The couple came to Iowa and
settled in the Goldfield area in
March of 1915 and started
farming.
A daughter, Marvel, was born on
September 24, 1916. In 1918, the
family moved to LuVerne and
farmed north of town. A son,
Gordon, was born on May 19, 1918
and another son, Vernon Eugene
was born on August 12, 1932 at
Fort Dodge. They continued to
live on the farm until 1960 when
they moved into LuVerne.

James C. Gauley, 1922-2002

James C. Gauley, 80, died at the
Rockwell Community Nursing Home,
on Saturday, August 10, 2002.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, August 13,
at the First United Methodist
Church in Sheffield, with the
Rev. Dan Voss of the Salem
United Methodist Church of
Meservey presiding. Military
graveside services followed at
Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield,
and were conducted by the
American Legion Harlow Ray
Massee Post No. 277. Visitation
was at the
Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup
Funeral Home in Sheffield.
James C. Gauley, was born on
January 26, 1922 at his home in
rural Sheffield, in Cerro Gordo
County, a son of Frank and Emma
(Hill) Gauley. He attended
country school at Geneseo No. 7
and graduated from the Sheffield
High School in 1939.
He farmed with
his father until joining the
Army in January 1946. He served
at Fort Riley, Kansas, Seattle,
Washington and Colorado Springs,
Colorado. He was discharged in
March 1947.
On April 13, 1946, James was
united in marriage with Mary
Ellen Warner in Rockwell. When
he returned home from the Army,
they farmed in the Rockwell area
until 1959, when they moved to
Buffalo Center. They moved back
to Sheffield in 1967, where they
farmed until his retirement in
1982. James also worked at the
Sheffield Locker from 1974 until
1987.
In 1993, James and Mary Ellen
moved into Rockwell. Mary Ellen
died on February 22, 1995. James
moved into the Rockwell
Community Nursing Home in 1998.

Edna M. Livingston, 1908-2002
August 20, 2002
Edna M. Livingston, 93, of
Corwith, died on Saturday,
August 10, 2002, at the Kanawha
Community Home, Kanawha.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, August 14, at the
Corwith United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Dan Fernandez
officiated. Music was provided
by organist, Sharon Gourley who
accompanied soloists, Diane Nall
and Jon Chambers and several
congregational hymns. Burial was
in the Corwith Cemetery.
Casket bearers were John Halbur,
Alan Doughan, Ivan Frey, Leonard
Tebben, Bob Scott and Gary
Studer. The
Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf
Funeral Home of Corwith was in
charge of the arrangements.
Edna Marion Adams
Livingston, was born on the
family farm in Erin Township on
December 20, 1908. She was the
daughter of Ethel Mary (Carl)
Adams and James George Adams.
She received her early education
in a rural one-room country
school south of Britt. The
family move to Corwith where
Edna attended the Corwith
Consolidated School.
On June 2, 1926,
Edna Adams and Arthur (Bud)
Livingston of Corwith were
married at Mason City. The
couple made their home in the
Corwith area and raised three
sons, Eugene Merle, James Arthur
and Elmer Kenneth.

Larry Brugman, 1926-2002
August 13, 2002
Former Garner resident, Larry
Brugman, of Pipestone,
Minnesota, died on Sunday,
August 11, 2002, at the Luverne
Community Hospital, Luverne,
Minnesota. He was 75.
A Mass of
Christian burial was held on
Friday, August 16, at the St.
Leo Catholic Church in
Pipestone, with the Rev. Martin
Schaefer and the Rev. Andy
Beerman officiating. Burial was
on Saturday, August 17, in the
St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery,
Garner. The Hartquist Funeral
Chapel of Pipestone was in
charge of the arrangements.
Larry Brugman,
son of Lloyd and Maude (Wilkins)
Brugman, was born on September
20, 1926 in Garner. He graduated
from the Garner High School in
1944. Following high school
graduation, he enlisted in the
United State Navy where he
served aboard the USS Halford
Destroyer. Following his
honorable discharge, Larry
returned to Garner and began
working as a meat cutter for the
Jake Koolbeck Locker.
On September 5,
1949, Larry Brugman was united
in marriage to Marvel Betty
Schoneman of Garner. He
continued to work as a meat
cutter for the Snow White Market
in Garner. He later worked as a
sales representative for the
Armour Meat Packing Company in
Sioux City, and later
transferred to Brookings, South
Dakota to continue in sales for
Armour Meats.
The family then moved to
Pipestone, where he was employed
as a salesman for various
wholesale food companies, such
as Robson's Foods and Draper
Foods. He retired in 1990.
In 1995, he was admitted to the
Minnesota Veterans Home on
Luverne, Minnesota, after
suffering a severe stroke.

B. J. "Ben" Studer, 1915-2002
September 3, 2002
B. J. "Ben" Studer, of Wesley,
died on Saturday, August 24,
2002, at the Hancock County
Memorial Hospital in Britt. He
was 86.
Funeral services
were held at the St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Wesley, on
Tuesday, August 27, at 10:30
a.m., with Father Daniel Greving
officiating. Interment was in
the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery
in Wesley.
Ben Studer, was
born on October 8, 1915 near
Wesley, to Benedict Gregory and
Zita Matern Studer. He received
his education at the St. Joseph
Parochial School in Wesley.
After his schooling, Ben worked
with his parents on the family
farm south of Wesley.
Ben was married to Mildred
Frances Berger on October 5,
1948 at the St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Wesley. The couple
continued farming south of
Wesley. Ben also raised horses
and mules.

Helen L. Wermers, 1918-2002

Helen L. Wermers, died on
Monday, August 26, 2002, at the
Good Samaritan Center of Algona,
at the age of 84.
Funeral services were held on
Thursday, August 29, at 10:30
a.m., at the St. Cecilia
Catholic Church in Algona, with
Father Paul Bormann officiating.
Interment was in the Ft.
Snelling National Cemetery in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, on
Friday, August 30 at 1:00 p.m.
Helen Lucy
Reinsbach, was born on April 28,
1918, to William and Anna Wisner
Reinsbach at Dimock, South
Dakota. She was raised on a farm
near Dimock and attended country
school.
Helen was married to Albert
(Bert) Wermers on January 22,
1943 at Dimock. The couple lived
in Ethan, South Dakota and then
settled in the Burt, Iowa area
in December of 1956, where Helen
was a homemaker.
