Margie was the oldest child of six
children born to Albert (John) and Helen
(Van Hieden) Cheney. She was born in
Mason City on Nov. 24, 1940. Margie
lived all her life in and around Mason
City. At age 16 she quit school to move
in and take care of her grandparents
until they both passed away in 1959. She
then moved back home for one year. Then
she moved back to Mason City in the fall
of 1960, starting her career as a
nurse's aid. She worked as a nurse's aid
for 33 plus years, working in several
nursing homes in Mason City. This was a
job she really enjoyed. Her last job was
at Walmart as a door greeter for four
years.
Margie married Wayne Dean Johnson in May
of 1980, after going with Wayne for 16
years. Wayne passed away in May of 1980
from lung cancer. To this union, two
sons were born, Stephen Wayne Johnson
and Michael Dean Johnson. Margie's pride
and joy was in her sons. She loved being
with and doing anything with her sons.
They would take vacation trips, day
trips on weekends where they would go
antiquing, shopping, attend sporting
events, country music concerts and much
more together.
Her siblings and their families were
also very important to her. She looked
forward to family gatherings, holidays
and picnics. She loved to be with all of
her family. She loved cooking, baking,
flower gardening, traveling the U.S.A.,
along with bird-feeding. Her favorite
sports to watch were the Iowa Hawkeyes
basketball and football, the Chicago
Cubs, Pittsburg Steelers, curling and
bowling.
She is survived by her two sons, Stephen
Wayne Johnson and Michael Dean Johnson
of Mason City; two brothers Ron (Roxie)
Cheney, Arizona, Kevin (Kathy) Cheney,
Mason City; three sisters, Lee (Larry)
Montgomery, Charles City, Barb Marker,
Mason City, Sheila (Tom) Hacker, Alden;
five nieces, one nephew and ten great-
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, one brother-in-law and
grandparents.
