Lloyd Wallace Flaskerud
U.S. Army WWII

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Lloyd Wallace Flaskerud, resident of Albert Lea, Minn., was born and baptized in Calmer, Iowa, Sept. 14, 1927, to parents Wilhelm and Lillian (Nagel) Flaskerud.

He became a resident of Freeborn County, Freeman Township, at age 6. He attended rural country school No. 47. He was confirmed at Round Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Glennville, Minn. During his younger years he worked with his father on the farm.
After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he returned home and continued farming. Lloyd and his father did custom harvesting and shelling, later custom combining. He kept up on modern farming practices.

He worked for different trucking and construction companies throughout his life. For many years, he maintained the Freeman Township roads. His passion was to operate and repair equipment.

Lloyd hunted, fished and traveled with his friends and family. He went to many horse shows and trail rides with his wife, Rosemary, and did many building projects with his brother Gene - like the backward tractor. Snowmobiling was a winter must.

In 1968 Lloyd, Gene and friend Adrian made a voyage trip across Yellowstone National Park on their snowmobiles. He was our tour guide on many snowmobile trips.

In 1987 Lloyd and his wife sold the family farm and bought different properties which they remodeled and improved: Manchester, Buffalo Center, Scarville, Kiester and Albert Lea. He drove fuel transport for Freeborn County Co-op, and later for Western Co-op Transport.

He brought his brother and son Greg into the business and retired in 1994 from full-time. He then worked part-time for Western Co-op and Gary Larson Trucking until age 73. Lloyd was not a very emotional man, but he set a good example for his family.

After hard work and long hours, he always found time to help his family and others.

Cancer did not beat Lloyd, it was the manner in which the Lord took him home.

A private family memorial service is planned.

He will be missed by: wife Rosemary, daughter Cheryl, son Greg (Dawn), grandchildren Monty (Kristy) and Elizabeth, brother Eugene ( Ruth) Flaskerud, brother-in-law Dar Claussen, sisters-in-law Pat (Richard) Radke and Sandi (Steve) Nesse, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillian; father and mother-in-law, John and Esther Egland; and his sister, Betty Mae Claussen.

Lloyd passed away at the Good Samaritan Society, Albert Lea, Minn., March 23, 2012.

Lloyd's wish was to be cremated and buried with his wife at her time of passing, next to his parents' grave at Round Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.

He said, "A person should have a marker to prove that they were here."
He left that mark on our hearts.
