Her life will be celebrated Thursday, March 8th, at 1:30 p.m. at United
Methodist Church, 508 Second Avenue North, Clear Lake, with the Rev.

Family suggests memorials to the Martha Buck Memorial Fund.
Martha was born June 30, 1921, to John and Maude (Olinger) Marsh. She
was the oldest of three children. From her humble beginnings in
Kentucky, through her school days filled with fun, laughter and lots of
memories at the Surf Ballroom, she most treasured spending time with her
family, playing games, baking cookies for her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, and preparing homemade pickles and bread to share
with everyone she loved.
Following graduation from Ventura High School in 1939, she married, and,
as a farmer's wife, gardened and prepared many meals for farm hands.
These talents were shared in raising her family providing special
memories of fresh produce and fried chicken. In those early years, she
gave birth to two daughters, Joan Jaspersen Saville and Judy Jaspersen
Boehnke.
A blind date introduced Martha to Robert Buck who became the love of her
life. They were married December 21, 1973, and shared many fun times and
travels until he passed away in 1998, the year of their Silver Wedding
Anniversary. Martha lived in Clear Lake most of her life where she was
employed at E. F. Johnson Radio Company, Sperry Corporation and Unisys
Computer Co. She was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church and
the
VFW
Women's Auxiliary.
Immediate family surviving Martha include her daughter, Judy Boehnke and
spouse, Lewis; son-in-law, Lloyd Saville and spouse, Paulette;
grandchildren, Kevin Saville (Terri), Matthew Boehnke (Alicia), Melissa
Smythe (Stephen), Ryan Boehnke, Chad Saville (Jamie) and Cory Saville;
great-grandchildren, Joshua Smythe, Talia Saville, Abbey Saville, Faith
Smythe, Eric Boehnke, Emily Boehnke, Ashlyn Saville and Izzy Saville;
brother, Dale Marsh (Arline); several nieces and nephews; four stepsons
and their children. She was preceded in death by daughter, Joan Saville;
husband, Robert; parents and grandparents; brother, Albert Marsh;
great-grandson, Zachary Caleb Smythe.
Martha's legacy to her adoring family and many friends is to love one
another unconditionally, as she loved us. This legacy of love was
celebrated in June at her 90th birthday party where she was in the midst
of her family and friends. Surrounded by 90 roses, she was glowing and
enjoyed sharing wonderful memories with everyone there. This legacy of
love will be cherished by her family and friends forever.

Monica Hagen
MASON
CITY - Monica M. Hagen, 83, of Mason City, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012,
at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March
10, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason
City, with Pastor Mark Doebel officiating. Visitation will be an hour
prior to the service.
A private inurnment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason
City, at a later date.
Monica Marie Doebel was born on April 5, 1928, on a farm outside of
Manly, to her loving parents Bernadette (Martin) Doebel and Arthur
Doebel, and big sister, Mary. Her brother Marcus (Bud) was joyfully
added to the family when Monica was 5 years old.
Monica had an idyllic childhood. She loved helping her father do farm
chores, after which they would sit and talk.
Monica attended country, Catholic and public schools in Manly. After
graduation she was offered a job by J. Edgar Hoover to work for the FBI,
but turned the position down.
Monica married Alvin Hagen on her 19th birthday on April 5, 1947. The
couple made their home at 234 12th St. S.E. in Mason City, where they
raised three children: Alan Floyd (10/1/1948), Jean Marie (07/11/1952)
and Jon Curtis (10/11/1953). Monica's greatest joy in life was being a
mom, grandma and great-grandma.
During the time that Alvin and Monica were raising their family, the
12th Street Southeast neighbors were a tight-knit group. It was not
unusual to find parents gathered on the Hagen porch in the evenings,
solving the problems of the world and watching the kids play games in
the yard. Monica became known as "THE" neighborhood mom … always willing
to lend a hand, offer friendship, feed a child or babysit.
Monica worked hard at several jobs, including a secretarial position at
Standard Oil. She was hired by A.C. Nielsen Co. when it opened a branch
in Mason City in 1965. Over the years she was promoted several times
until she became a supervisor. She was particularly proud of this, given
that, at that time there were very few women who were promoted to
management positions. She retired on her 57th birthday to spend more
time with her young granddaughter, Alison, and to enjoy life.
She volunteered at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, the North
Iowa Mercy Hospital gift shop, and was a member and officer of the
VFW
Ladies Auxiliary in Manly. Monica was a grateful member of Al-Anon for
many years. She also launched a new career, becoming known to
neighborhood children as the "freeze pop grandma" by welcoming the many
children who made daily treks to her home for 25 years for conversation
and a frozen snack. Her daughter Jean was particularly proud of her
mother for being a feminist, a liberal Democrat and for choosing to
attend her precinct caucus in 2008 to support Barack Obama.
Monica's last seven years were filled with joy by the addition of her
great grandson, Kale. She spent many hours creating cherished memories
with her favorite little guy. They enjoyed spending time outside,
playing baseball together and visiting the neighbors. Monica handled the
gradual progression of her Alzheimer's disease with grace and humor.
Monica moved to Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living in March of 2010 before
moving to Good Shepherd Health Center in January of 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin (1991), son Jon (1976),
son Alan (2004), and her brother, Bud (2005).
Monica is survived by her daughter, Jean (John Sjoberg), Iowa City,
granddaughter, Alison Roe (Nick Mostrom) and great grandson, Kale
Mostrom, Mason City; sister, Mary Hagen, Manly; sisters-in-law Bonnie
Doebel, Clear Lake, Vivian Hagen, Algona, and Ruth O'Donnell (Jim),
Mason City; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She also had many special friends who will miss her presence in their
lives including Merv Ennen (Mason City), who became like a son to Monica
after Alan died, Lori Woolery (Chandler, Ariz.), the Kathy Nuddleman
family (Mason City), Kay Haugen (Rockwell), Ethel Magner (Mason City),
and the Peterson family who lived next door to Monica on 12th Street
Southeast. She is also survived by her spoiled cat, Smokey.
Following Monica's example, the family requests that everyone practice
random acts of kindness and suggests donations to UNICEF,

MASON
CITY - Glennis Faith Lee (Clipperton) was promoted to Heaven's organ
guild on March 2, 2012.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at First Christian Church, 318
N. Adams, Mason City, Iowa, at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, with Pastor
Dan Cline officiating.
Glennis Faith Clipperton was born on September 9, 1935, in Martin
County, Minn., to A.I. and Ellen (Kruse) Clipperton. She married Donald
Edwin Lee on April 19, 1955, in England while Don served in the U. S.
Army. After service the two farmed in Dexter, Minn., for three years
before Don entered barber school. They moved to Mason City in 1959 when
Don became an apprentice barber.
Glennis was an accomplished musician. For the past 35 years she has been
the organist at the First Christian Church, where she also directed the
handbell choir and enjoyed singing in the church choir and area choral
concerts. She also played for several area funeral homes and churches in
Mason City.
In 1958, she won a statewide talent competition in Minnesota by
recording her own piano accompaniment to which she played an unusual set
of two-and-a-half octave tuned cowbells. She won a trip to Boston where
she played at the National Farm Bureau Convention. She entertained many
groups in this way over the years. In addition to her set of cowbells,
Glennis was an avid collector of bells from around the world.
As a member of the American Guild of Organists, she served as treasurer
and was past dean for the local chapter. She was also a member of the
American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, Matinee Musicale, Hawkeye
Movie Makers, served as secretary for several years for Gardeners of
North Iowa and served on the Community Concert board. While raising her
children she was active in PTA, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and teaching
Sunday school.
In addition to her love of music, Glennis was a life-long gardener, not
only in the literal sense but in the spiritual as well. Glennis gently
tended and nurtured all who came in contact with her, many more than her
five children called her mother.
Since her retirement from Mercy Home Care in 2000, Glennis and Don
enjoyed many travels together including train trips and cruises. They
loved to travel to our national treasures as well as abroad. Glennis and
Don turned their small acreage into a gardener's paradise, complete with
pond. During the past several years their yard has been included in many
garden and pond tours. Most important to Glennis was spending time with
her family.
Glennis passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was
