Roger D. Amosson
CLEAR
LAKE - Roger D. Amosson, 76, 306 Birch Ave., Clear Lake, died Monday,
Oct. 10, 2011, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave N., with the Rev. Diana
Hoover officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour before the service
at the church. Inurnment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the
American Heart
Association or
Hospice of North Iowa.
Roger was born Oct. 22, 1934, on the family farm, south of Clear Lake,
the son of Glen and Agnes (Ulstad) Amosson. He attended and graduated
from Clear Lake High School in 1953. He worked at Allied Mills for two
years. Roger married Barbara Rice Jan. 9, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church
in Clear Lake. He farmed the family farms until retiring in 2002.
Roger's favorite past- time was fishing, hunting with his son-in-law
Jeff, and having coffee with the hearing impaired group. He enjoyed
golfing, playing cards, and watching sports, the Vikings, Twins and Iowa
State University. Roger took pride in his Norwegian heritage and
attending church Lutefisk Dinners in the fall. Roger and Barbara enjoyed
spending their winters in Arizona where he did woodworking and jewelry.
Roger was a former Clear Lake School Board member, Zion Lutheran Church
member where he taught fifth grade Sunday school and was on church
council and various committees.
Roger is survived by his wife Barbara Amosson, Clear Lake; three
daughters Vicky Ernster and her husband Les, Rochester, Minn., Susan
Finnegan and her husband Michael, Clear Lake, and Amy Pierce and her
husband Jeff, Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren Jennifer (David)
Anderson, Mankato, Minn., Sara (Bryce) Pronk, Rochester, Minn.,
Christopher (Stephanie) Finnegan, Patrick Finnegan, Des Moines, Nicholas
Pierce, Meg Pierce and Claire Pierce, Rochester, Minn.; four
great-grandchildren Bennett and Alexis Pronk and Vaughn and Evelyn
Anderson; brother Robert Amosson and his wife Patricia, Rockwell, and
sister-in-law Susan Amosson, Des Moines.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Ronald Amosson.

CITY -Pauline Marie Goranson, 75, of Mason City, died at Good Shepherd
Nursing Home on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at
Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street Northeast, Mason
City, with Father Ken Gehling officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Pauline Marie Goranson was born to Carl and Edna (Tinkle) Mott in Mason
City on April 16, 1936. Born and raised in Mason City, she received her
education from the Mason City school system. Following her education,
she was united in marriage to Kenneth Goranson and to this union, four
children were born: Pam, Ron, Dave, and Krista.
At the beginning of her marriage, Pauline was an army wife and
homemaker, taking care of her children and working part time at Mode O'
Day and Hy-Vee.
She enjoyed dancing and playing cards and was a fabulous cook. She also
had a special collection of music boxes. Much of her time was spent with
family and friends, playing games and creating adventures with her
grandchildren.
She will be missed by her children, Pam (Lee) Romig, Mason City, Ron
(Sandy) Goranson, Mason City, Dave (Sue) Goranson, Mason City, Krista
(Lonnie) Jensen, Urbandale; grandchildren, Emily (Justin) Younke, Mason
City, Kari Goranson, Urbandale, Seth Goranson, Mason City, Kyle Goranson,
Mason City, Alex Goranson, Mason City, Kelsey Nettleton, Mason City and
Samantha Nettleton, Urbandale; great-grandson, Gaige Younke, Mason City
and special friends, Dale Caspers, Swaledale, and Jan and Al Hegenbarth,
Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth (2003);

Luella (Susie) Hanson

CITY - Luella (Susie) Hanson, 94, 302 Second St. N.E., Mason City, died
Wednesday Oct. 5, 2011, at 1 in the morning at the Good Shepherd Nursing
Home.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kent
Mechler officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke. Interment
will be at the Concord Cemetery, Garner.
Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Health Center in memory of
Luella Hanson.
Luella was the oldest daughter of Mervin and Lillian (Davis) Frogg of
Crystal Lake. She was born July 31, 1917, reared and educated in Crystal
Lake Schools, graduating in 1936. She married Wilbur Hanson on March 17,
1936, in Algona. They farmed for several years, and then moved to Clear
Lake, where she was employed at the Clear Lake Bakery for ten years.
Then they moved in 1964 to Greeley, Colo., where she was employed at the
Weld County Hospital for 15 years until she retired in 1979.
Then she moved to Clear Lake, in 1984 and has been a resident there
until Jan. 11, 2011, when she moved to the Good Shepherd Health Center
in Mason City, until her death.
Luella enjoyed reading, watching western movies and visiting with
people. She loved sewing, handwork and crocheting.
She is survived by three children; a son, Gary (Joy) Hanson of England,
two daughters, Sharon (Jack) Kloster, Mason City, and Marsha (Greg)
Vrtiska, Grand Junction, Colo.; three sisters, Gladys Barzs, Waterloo,
Grace Kluver, Crystal Lake, and Garnet Noltersmeier, Waterloo; ten
grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great
grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur, her parents;
brother-in-law Oville Kluver, Don Noltersmeier and Everett Barz.

Marlin was born Jan. 4, 1959, in Mason City, the son of Alwood and
Nadene (Anderson) Hanson. He attended school in Mason City.
On May 3, 1986, Marlin married Donna Lasley at the Zion Lutheran Church
in Monticello, Iowa.
Marlin was a "Jack Of All Trades", who worked many jobs over the years,
including most recently - Huffman Coaches (driving charter buses) and
Five Star Co-Op (driving semi-tractor/trailer). He was a member of St.
James Lutheran Church. Marlin enjoyed driving truck, camping, tinkering
on cars and building model cars, construction, watching "Fix It" shows
on HGTV and the DIY Network, and spending time outdoors - loving the
fresh air, scenery, and "being free." Most importantly, he enjoyed
spending time with his family - especially his children and
grandchildren. He was self-taught in many things, including the
computer. He had a great love for photography and videography, and loved
capturing special family moments and the beautiful outdoors.
Marlin is survived by his wife of 25 years: Donna Hanson of Mason City;
his children: Joshua Hanson of Mason City, Nicole Hanson of Boise,
Idaho, Heidi Estle and husband James of Plover, Wis., and Spencer Hanson
and significant other, Jaque Saewert of Mason City; two grandchildren:
Aliza "Smoochie" Estle and Pierce Saewert; mother and father-in-law:
Geroge and Bonnie Tobiason of Monticello; brother-in-law: David Lasley
and wife Janeece of Monticello; and sister-in-law: Kalinda Stadtmueller
and husband Al of Monticello. He is also survived by his Beagle dog
"Copper", and several extended family members - cousins, uncles, and
aunts, including special aunts: Norma Law and Verna Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his father, and special uncle: Bud Anderson.
Other survivors include: his mother; three brothers: Rodney, Kevin and

George was born March 13, 1926, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Louis
and Marie (Boone) Pion. He graduated from Mason City High School before

University of Iowa.
He served his country in the Navy for four years.
George was united in marriage to Doris Slebiska in 1950 and to this
union came three children: Georgine, Dorita and Kirk.
He retired from the Milwaukee Railroad in 1986, but that didn't stop him
from continuing to work as a volunteer.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris, of Mason City; three
children, Georgine Pion of Nashville, Tenn., Dorita Sondereker of Las
Vegas, Nev., Kirk Pion of Chicago, Ill.; one grandson, Nathan Pion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Louis,
Morris, Rolly and Gene Pion.

- Anna O. Radloff, 96, of Garner died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Hospice

Anna Ottilie Radloff, the daughter of Gustav and Louise (Dorow) Pueggel,
was born March 27, 1915, on a farm north of Clear Lake. She was baptized
and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner. She
graduated from Ventura High School and Thompson School of Cosmetology in
Des Moines. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Belmond until her
marriage to Raymond Radloff at St. John's Lutheran Church on May 29,
1938. They made their home in Garner. Ray and Anna built and operated
the R-Motel in Garner for a number years. Anna enjoyed her family and
friends, singing in the church choir, golfing, bowling, reading,
vacationing and traveling with Ray. Most of all, she was an avid bridge
player who enjoyed getting together with friends for a challenging
afternoon or evening of bridge.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, LWML, Ruth Circle and sang
in the church choir for many years.
Anna is survived by two children, a son, Dr. Roger Radloff and
daughter-in-law, Gertraud of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Nancy Walter
and son-in-law, Gene Walter of Surprise, Ariz.; four grandchildren,
Stefan Radloff of Chandler, Ariz., Dr. Monika Radloff and husband, Karl
Granroth (and one expected great-grandchild) of Flagstaff, Ariz., James
Brewer and wife, Susan (great-grand children Carter, Grant, Jackson and
Kennedy) of Everett, Wash., and Amanda Hammer and husband, Jay
(great-grand children, Justin and Emily) of Lakewood, Colo. Anna is also
survived by a sister, Dorothy Hollatz of Garner; a brother, Arnold
Pueggel of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in July of 2000; her
parents; and two sisters, Esther Pueggel and Agnes Hollatz.

CITY - Walter Dow Climer Sr., 83, Mason City, died Monday, Oct. 10,
2011, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral service for Walter will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct.
13, at the Temple Baptist Church, 1211 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City,
with Pastor Ed Bard officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason City with military graveside honors
conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the

Walter Dow Climer, Sr., was born on June 12, 1928, in Hartville, Mo.,
the son of Roy and Verna (Marah) Climer. Walter attended country school
in Hartville, Mo., until enlisting in the U.S. Army on Sept. 15, 1950,
and served his country honorably and faithfully in the Korean Conflict
until his honorable discharge on Aug. 25, 1952.
Walter was united in marriage to Dorothy Blaine on April 11, 1953, in
Corwith, and to this union two sons were born, Walter Jr., and Lester.
Walter worked for Jacob E. Decker Co., in Mason City for 37 years in the
Bacon Department until his retirement in 1993.
Walter was united in marriage to Mary Climer on Nov. 18, 1972, in Mason
City.
Walter was an avid fisherman, enjoyed making all kinds of whirligigs,
spending time with his grandchildren, and hunting and fishing with his
two sons, and grandchildren.
Walter was an active member of the Temple Baptist Church in Mason City.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Walter "Wally" Climer,
Jr. of Nora Springs, and Lester (Patty) Climer of Spencer; two
step-sons, Larry Miller of Cresco, and Robert Miller of Hampton;
grandchildren Kelly Climer and special friend Dell Brown of Mason City,
Derrick Climer of Waterloo, Ryan (Mary) Climer of Ruthven, Tyler Climer
and fiance Casey Broadhead of Spencer, and Cory (Amanda) Climer of
Hartley; two great-grandchildren, Addison Thomas-Climer, and Braxton
Climer; brothers, Floyd (Lisa) Climer of Springfield, Mo., and Kenneth
(Patty) Climer of Seymour, Mo.; sisters Darlene Hatcher and Pauline
Keith of Mansfield, Mo. and Shirley (Woody) Garrison of Battlefield,
Mo., as well as many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family
members and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dorothy who
died on April 25, 2011; his second wife Mary who died on Oct. 19, 2007;

Dick was born Sept. 5, 1943, in Clear Lake, the son of Fred and Ruth
(Harlan) Fistler. He grew up in the Clear Lake area. He was employed by
various places. In January 1964 he went to work for Curries
Manufacturing and worked there for 45 years, retiring in January 2009.
He enjoyed fishing, watching football and NASCAR racing on TV, working
in his shop and spending time with his family and friends, especially
with his four grandsons.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years Cindy, step-son Todd and his wife
Pam, grandsons Chase, Jagger, Brayden and Mason, two daughters Shiela
and Tracy from a previous marriage, six grandchildren and one
great-grandchild in Texas, one brother, Ron, and two sisters, Judy
Rinnels and Donna Ginther.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Gary and two
brothers-in-law John Rinnels and Kay Ginther.

Charles David Gasswint Jr.
MANKATO,
Minn. - Charles David Gasswint Jr., 73, of Mankato, died Wednesday, Oct.
5, 2011, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his family.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Centenary United
Methodist Church in Mankato. The Rev. Dean Wolf and the Rev. Marilyn
Gasswint will be officiating.
A fellowship visitation will follow the service at the church until 8
p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the ECHO Food Shelf of
Mankato or the Blue Earth and Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS).
Charles was born July 22, 1938, in Mason City, Iowa, to Charles William
Gasswint and Lola Ellen Burch. He was a 1956 graduate of Mason City High
School. Charles married Marilyn Lea Kusch in Iowa City, they later
divorced, but remained lifelong friends. Charles graduated from the
University of Iowa
in 1961, Kansas University in 1963, and from
the University of Oklahoma with his Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in
1968.
Charles was a Counselor, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kan.; Counselor,
University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1963-1964; Research
Assistant, Political Science, University of Iowa, Iowa City, from

He is survived by son, Devin Charles (Amy) Gasswint of Madison Lake,
Minn.; daughter, Karen Kay Gasswint of Mankato, Minn.; grandchildren,
Carson Paul, Taylor Marie and Mya Kay Gasswint all of Madison Lake,
Minn.; sister, Carol Ann Quinones of Mason City; brother-in-law, Robert
High Jackson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, Janan Marie
Brunstein of Iowa City, Lynn Ann (Dale) Henaman of Mason City, Lee James
(Tracy) Quinones of Hampton, Julianne (Mark) Bergdale of Scottsdale,

CITY - August H. "Augie" Groh, 82, of Mason City, died Monday evening,
Oct. 10, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Oct.
14, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason
City, where sharing of memories will take place at 1:30 p.m.

his son Michael Groh, 715 S. Fillmore Ave., Mason City, IA 50401.
August Harry Groh was born on Jan. 27, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., to August
and Lillian (Riegert) Groh. On April 23, 1946, August enlisted into the
United States Navy, where he faithfully served his country during World
War II until his honorable discharge on March 3, 1948.
On Sept. 1, 1957, Augie was united in marriage to Arlene Anderson in
Mason City; this union would be blessed with four children. They were
married for 53 years prior to Arlene's death in October of 2010.
For over thirty years Augie worked for Decker Meat Packing Plant. After
the plant was sold to Armour Meats, he transferred to Dallas, Texas,
where he worked until his retirement.
Augie enjoyed his time spent with friends and family, he will be
remembered as a man with a heart of gold who would help anyone out in a
time of need. He loved bowling, fishing, and playing Cribbage. Augie was
a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a former member of the Elks Lodge.
Those grateful in sharing in his life are his children, Robert (Linda)
Groh, Lorne, Texas, Terry (Mike) Roggeman, Mason City, Michele (Michael)
Keenom, Lewisville, Texas, and Michael (Nancy) Groh, Mason City; his
grandchildren, Jackson Bromley, Jeramy Keenom, Michael Groh, Jr., Daniel

CITY -Vernon "Vern" Kluwe, 85, of Charles City, died Tuesday, Oct. 11,
2011, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Vern Kluwe will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Stanley Hayek will
celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

p.m. Thursday, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. and a
Scriptural Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will

Vernon Duane Kluwe was born July 22, 1926, at Calmar, the son of
Benjamin and Agnes (Phillips) Kluwe. He graduated from Charles City High
School. On June 13, 1964, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Sobolik.
Vern worked for many years at Birum-Olson Motor Company in Mason City.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Other
memberships included the New Hampton and Greene Country Clubs and a
lifetime membership at the Moose Lodge. Vern enjoyed golfing, gardening,
selling cars and for 20 years fishing in Canada.
Living family members include his wife, Suzanne "Sue" Kluwe of Charles
City; and a daughter Pam (Duane) Folz of Floyd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Deloris Godowski
and Audrey Cenek; and two brothers, Benjamin Kluwe, Jr. and Robert Kluwe.

- Dolores Marie (Maybee) Kruse, passed away quietly on Monday, Oct. 10,

sudden illness. She was 83 years old and a member of Elk Creek Lutheran

Dolores Marie (Maybee) Kruse was born March 14, 1928, in Chicago, Ill.,
to parents Verlin and Ruby (Folkes) Maybee. She was baptized and
confirmed at Wicker Park Lutheran Church, Chicago, Ill. With the death
of her mother at a very young age, she found her way to Kensett, Iowa,
and made her stay with Hans and Alma Pederson. She graduated from
Kensett High School in 1947.
She was united in marriage to William (Bill) DeWayne Kruse on Nov. 13,
1949, at St. Paul German Reformed Church, Manly. They lived in a little
house on his dad's farm in Brookfield Township. In 1957 they moved and
then bought the farm that she presently lived on. Bill passed away Nov.
21, 1999.
Bill and Dolores milked cows, raised sheep, had chickens that they
raised and butchered to pay for their children's college education. Mom
would travel the county fair circuit showing her Hampshire and Southdown
Sheep in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Dolores loved to garden and had
lots of flowers inside the house and outside in large flower gardens.
Dolores taught 4-H kids how to knit, they had 4-H sheep demonstrations
at the farm, she loved to crochet, embroidery, go out for coffee with
her friends, travel long and short trips and be with her family. She is
a member of Elk Creek Lutheran Church since 1957, the ladies aid which
she held many offices. She also belonged to the 3-M Club and was
president of the St. Paul's women's guild.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, William (Teri) Kruse of
Shenandoah, Iowa, Carol (Kruse) Rueber, of Sumner, Iowa; her
grandchildren, Tiffany Kruse, of Iowa City, Tyler (Carrie) Kruse, of Des
Moines, and Aimee Rueber (fiancée Jesse Stayner) of Melbourne, Iowa; her
brother Vern Maybee, sister-in-law Wilma Shafer, and nieces and nephews,
and other extended family members and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, her foster parents, husband,
sister Grace Kral, son-in-law Royce Rueber.

Wesley Albert Stiller was born on Oct. 19, 1939, to August and Ester (Weaverling)

union four children were born.
Wes worked for over 30 years at Cambrex of Charles City where he worked
as a pipe fitter and was currently working at Hoover's Hatchery in Rudd.
In his free time, Wes enjoyed playing cards, motorcycling, and watching
NASCAR. He was a gifted woodworker and crafted beautiful furniture. Wes
also cherished the time spent with his family and had a love for good
conversation. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford.

1940. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Darrel, Linda, Lyle
and Arlyn.
Irene spent most of her life living and working on the farm. Irene
enjoyed the companionship of friends and family, whether it was having
coffee with friends or spending time with the kids and grandkids.
Irene's love and memory will continue in the hearts and lives of her
daughter Linda (Ron) Benson of Carlisle, son Lyle (Nancy) Waddingham of
Klemme and daughter-in-law Nola Waddingham of Meservey; sister, Bertha
Trager of Meservey; grandchildren Rodney (Robin) Benson , Lorene (Al)
Cosimo, Brian (Jen) Waddingham, Jamie Waddingham, Tory (Meredith
McWilliams) Waddingham, Tully (Wendy) Waddingham; great grandchildren:

Keith Leroy (Melvin) Janes, son of Verle and Ella (Greenfield) Janes,
was born on May 26, 1949, in Titonka. He attended Britt Community
Schools and graduated in 1967.
Keith married Sandra (McNeese) on Aug. 18, 1967. The couple resided in
Britt with three children and Keith was employed at Wilson's Super Valu
in Britt for 23 years. He was active in the Christian Reformed Church,
was the Britt Jaycee Charter Club president, and a Lions Club member. He
started the recycling center in his garage and continued the service
until moving to Florida in 1994. They were part owners of Melvin's Bagel
and Grill in Hobe Sound, Fla., where he was manager and grill cook for
12 years. After selling the business, Keith worked as a greenskeeper at
Monterey Yacht and Country Club in Stuart.
He loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed
golfing, sports, racing, hunting and his fishing trips to Canada with
his kids and friends. He loved playing cards and traveling. He was a
good-hearted free spirit in many ways.
Keith is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra; children: Kelly
(Rita) Janes of Clarion, Garen (Kelly Jo) Janes of Stuart, Fla., and
Dana Janes of North Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren: Shawn Janes,
Iowa City, Tyler and Emma Janes of Stuart, Fla.; his sisters: Verla
(Jeremiah) Schmidt of Britt and Deloris (Robert) Ruter of Kanawha; a
sister-in-law Phyllis Janes of Garner; along with numerous nieces,
nephews, other family members and friends.

CHARLES CITY -Marguerite Patterson, 97, of Charles City, died Wednesday,
Oct. 12, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Marguerite Patterson will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday,

CITY - James F. Paulsen Jr., 45, of Mason City, died Sunday, Oct. 9,
2011.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Major
Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Ed Bard,
Hospice of North Iowa chaplain, officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at the funeral
home. Interment will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials

James was born on Aug. 20, 1966, in Riverside, Calif., the son of James
and Barbara (McDowall) Paulsen. He attended school in Mason City. He
worked as a roofer in construction all his life and was known as a
construction man by day and family man by night. Music was a passion for
James and he enjoyed all aspects of it including singing, writing music
and playing instruments. James also enjoyed the outdoors, sports,
especially the Minnesota Vikings, and gambling. Of all the enjoyment in
James' life, his kids exceeded them all. He spent his free time
traveling and always looked for the deal next door. If you thought you
were right, James always believed he could prove you wrong (Paulsen
Power!)
James is survived by his wife of 17 years, Suzanne Paulsen of Albert
Lea, Minn.; his children, Jamie (Jessica) Paulsen, Shannon Paulsen,
Mikki Paulsen, Bradley Paulsen, Christian Paulsen, Jenna Savoy, K.J.
Savoy Jr., all of Mason City; grandchildren, Isaiah, Adriannah, Darius,
Donte, Aubrea, Traevon, Payton, and one unborn; siblings, Jeffrey
Paulsen, Richard Murl, Don (Shelly) Murl, Ron Paulsen, Sheri Murl,
Belinda (Jason) Schulz, Mellissa (Joe) Adams; parents, Barbara (James)
Bond, James (Gloria) Paulsen; life-long friends, Brad Winters, Scott
Germundson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Grandma and

CITY - James "Jimbo" William Redeker, 63, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011,
at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City. Jim gave the gift of
life through organ and tissue donation.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Hogan
Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with
Pastor Josh Schultz officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City
Veteran's Memorial Association. Casual attire is requested.
Following the service the family will greet friends Saturday, Oct. 15,

James WilliamRedeker was born March 30, 1948, in Mason City, the son of
Donald and Ruth (Davis) Redeker. He received his education and graduated
from Mason City High School in 1966. He was drafted into the United
States
Army and
served during the
Vietnam War;
later he was honorably discharged.
On Aug. 15, 1981, Jim was united in marriage to Sandy Vega. To this
union they were blessed with three children. He worked at Decker
Meatpacking Plant, Donnelly Cable, Armour Swift in Britt, Sunny Fresh,
and most recently he worked at Eaton in Belmond. He also enjoyed working
for his son, Jim Jr. "The Gutter Guy."
Jim was an outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, bird watching and
gardening. He loved camping and took many fishing trips with his family
and friends, including to Leech Lake in Minnesota, salmon fishing in
Lake Michigan and trips to Mexico. Jim enjoyed his fishing trips with
his fishing buddy Dick Searle. He was an avid Minnesota Viking football
fan. Jim enjoyed photography and loved spending time with his children
and grandchildren, attending their extracurricular activities. Jim was
very proud of his 23-year sobriety. Jim was a member of the AA Club
House.
Jim is survived by his mother, Ruth Redeker, Mason City; wife, Sandy
Redeker, Mason City; children James Jr. (Mindy) Redeker and their
children Austin and Alexis, Mason City, Cory (Traci) Redeker and their
children Jace and Brooke Kamish, Manly, Carrie Santee and her children
Nicole, Zack and Faith, Mason City; siblings Deanna (Butch) Raprager,
Kathy (Wes) Loeckle, Peggy (Roy) Vega and Randy Redeker, all of Mason
City; along with several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, Donald Redeker, nephew Doug
Joyner Jr., and mother and father-in-law Mony and Liz Vega.

Dr. Jeffrey Wayne Allen
KOKOMO,
Ind. - Dr. Jeffrey Wayne Allen of Kokomo, Ind. and formerly of Mason
City, went home to our Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011.
Jeff was born Feb. 21, 1940, in Mason City to Lloyd Phillip Allen and
Sylvia Wyant Allen Perham.
After graduating from Mason City High School in 1957, he attended Palmer
School of Chiropractic at Davenport, Iowa.
He then set up his own practice in Kokomo. He loved his work and took
pride in it and continued until his retirement.
Jeff was a Christian man who loved the Lord and was active in his
church.
He is survived by two daughters, Philecia and Alexis, both of Kokomo,
two sisters, Sandra (Jack) Mix, Susan Myers, and one brother, Mike
Perham all of Mason City and a good friend Carol Eliot of Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Allen who was lost at sea
during
World War II
when Jeff was a small boy, his mother, Sylvia Perham, step-father, Gene
Perham and both sets of grandparents.
He was cremated and a graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery
in Mason City with Pastor Marty Garrett of First Covenant Church
officiating, where Jeff attended as a youth.
The service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. Refreshments
will be served at the First Covenant Church, 411 S. Ohio Ave., following
the service.

Violet Opal Bryant
HARTLEY - Violet Opal Bryant, the daughter of Julius and Minnie
(Otto) Thortsen, was born on Sept. 13, 1913 in O'Brien County, Iowa. She
was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical and Reformed Church.
Violet received her education in the area country schools, and was a
graduate of the Hartley High School class of 1930.
In July of 1933, Violet was united in marriage to Harold Bryant in
Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Jermaine, James and
Janaan. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Sutherland,
until moving to Hartley where they built and operated the Iowan Motel.
After selling the motel in 1963, they owned and managed motels in Fort
Dodge and Marshalltown. They then went to work for the Travelodge
Corporation in several cities. In 1976, they moved back to Hartley to
semi-retire. Violet worked for several years in the hospital dietary
department. They loved spending winters in Arizona.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, Violet passed away at the Community Memorial
Health Center in Hartley at the age of 98.
She was a longtime member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, as
well as a member of GFWC Klio Club for 45 years, a 4-H leader, Dorcas
Society member, and served on the Community Health Center Auxiliary.
Special interests included sewing, quilting, gardening and playing
bridge. She enjoyed making crafts for her friends, church and family -
her specialty being the miniature mailboxes that her family and friends
collected. Her family and grandchildren were an important part of her
life.
She is survived by a daughter, Jermaine Welch of Hartley, son, Jim
Bryant and his wife, Joyce, of Eldridge, son-in-law, Bill Barker and his
wife, Colleen, of Spirit Lake; grandchildren: Jonelle (Charles) Conrad
of Harlan, Kelly (Deidre) Welch of Hartley, Kerry Welch of San Diego,
Calif., Jeff (Melissa) Bryant of Spokane, Wash., Terry (Dawn) Bryant of
Cumming, Ga., Bill (Kim) Barker of Cary, Ill., Karin Roberts of Milan,
Ohio, Matt (Kim) Barker of Gilbert, Ariz.; great-grandchildren: Brett
and Shane Conrad, Tanya, Toby and Bailey Welch, Jennifer and Sarah
Bryant, Ryan and Kaitlyn Barker, Jackson Bryant, Ryne and Chase Barker,
Bryce and Lindsay Roberts; other relatives and friends.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband Harold, daughter Janaan,
son-in-law Merlyn Welch, two grandsons, Steve Barker and Brad Bryant, a
brother Gordon Thortsen, and a sister-in-law Polly Thortsen.
Memorial service was held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, Trinity United Church
of Christ, Hartley. The Rev. Jeff Filkins officated.
Inurnment was held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, at 9:30 a.m.
Friday, Oct. 14.

Zudavee Holland, the daughter of Marlor and Lucy (Caudell-Brock) Smith,
was born Nov. 15, 1932 in Homer, Ga. At an early age, Zudie moved with
her family to Crystal Lake and later to Thompson where she graduated
from high school in 1951. In 1952 she was married to Bobbie D. Holland
and later divorced. Zudie drove motor homes for Winnebago for twelve
years and later became employed by Forest City Community Schools driving
school bus for twenty-seven years. Her love of life was spending time
with her family, cooking, gardening, playing cards and especially,
bingo.
Zudie is survived by her children, Pam Julius of Galt, Phyllis Holland
of Forest City and Anthony Holland of Woden; eight grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Colleen Devin of Oklahoma and Madilene
Jensen of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Vance; a grandson; and
five brothers.

Paul John Kloberdanz
U.S. Army (1952-
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -Paul passed away on Oct. 11, 2011 in Scottsdale,
Ariz., after a long-term illness. Paul was a former resident of
Danville, since 1970.
Paul was born to Wenzel and Elizabeth (Frank) Kloberdanz in Mason City,
Iowa, on Dec. 6, 1934. He was the eldest brother to Richard (Sharon),
Jim, and Ronald (Nancy). He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in
1952. After high school, Paul enlisted in the United States
Army
and was stationed in New York. When he returned to Iowa, he worked for
Farm Services for many years until he bought Millers 66 Gas Station in
Danville. He re-opened it as The Mart in 1978, and the Mr. K's
restaurant shortly after.
He was fondly referred to as "Uncle Paul" to many in the Danville area.
He had a smile for everyone and could be found greeting his customers
everyday at The Mart until it closed late 2008 due to his illness.
Paul leaves behind his children: Paul Jr., David, Daniel, Christine
(Robert), and Nicolle (Tadd), six grandchildren, and numerous nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, his children invite all family and friends to the
Danville Community Building on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 from 1-5 p.m., to
share photos, stories, and tall tales of Paul.

Dr. Ernest W. Kopal was born in Chicago, Ill., May 7, 1922 to Marian and
John Kopal. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago. He
enlisted in the U.S.
Army
Air Corps in 1942 at Camp Grant Base in Illinois. He was sent to Emery
Riddle School of Aviation in Coral Gables, Fla. He then applied for
Aviation Cadet training and was sent to the Center in San Antonio,
Texas.
Dr. Kopal received his advanced flight school training at Enid,
Oklahoma, where he was awarded his wings. He was assigned to B-25 duty
and was sent to Randolph Air Base, Texas. He was honorably discharged in
October 1945 as a second lieutenant. Then he spent 25 years in the
U.S. Air Force
Reserve program, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was the
Iowa Commander for the Air Force Academy Liaison program for years. This
program counseled young men and women who wished to enter the Air Force
Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Ernest married Edwina Hamilton on June 6, 1946, at St. Edwards Catholic
Church in Oak Park, Ill. They lived in Chicago, Ill., until Dr. Kopal
graduated from Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1949 and
started his practice in Mason City in April 1949. He served on the staff
of Mercy Hospital-North Iowa and was a lifetime member of the Iowa
Podiatric Medical Association and the American Podiatric Medical
Association.
He was appointed to the Mason City Airport Commission in 1974 and served
for 14 years with seven of those years serving as chairman.
He was Co-chairman of the 1971 Air Show at the Mason City Airport where
World War II
military aircraft and present day aircraft were shown. The USAF "Thunder
Birds" preformed their routine to an audience of thousands. Dr. Kopal
was commended for a very successful show by the Defense Department.
Dr. Kopal was a member of Holy Family Church, the American Legion and
the National Association of U.S. Military Officers. He served as vice
president of the Mason City Junior Chamber and was a past member of the
Knights of Columbus and Rotary. He and his wife belonged to a Friday
night dinner group, known as the Freaky Friday Group, for over twenty
years.
After retiring in 1985 from his podiatry practice in the Brick and Tile
Building, he and his wife traveled extensively through out the world and
enjoyed their many adventures.
He was able to be included in the Honor Flight for World Ware II
veterans to Washington, D.C., in October of 2010.
Dr Kopal was a very compassionate person who loved his family and
included them in all vacation plans and activities as they grew up. He
was also known for his quick and witty come backs, showing his great
sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Edwina (Winnie) Kopal; his children: son,
Randall Kopal, Longmont, Colo.; daughters, Valorie Yezek, Mason City,
Corliss Gunderson (Marc), Maple Grove, Minn., Renee Kopal, London,
England and seven grandchildren: Buck Kopal Austin, Brandon Yezek, Jacob
Yezek, Andrea Gunderson Brokaw, Alissa Gunderson, Harley Kopal and Kai
Kopal-Meller.

David G. Richards

- David G. Richards, 56, of Alexander, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1,
2011, at his home north of Alexander.
Memorial services for David G. Richards will be held at 11 a.m. today,
Saturday, Oct. 15, at the United Methodist Church in Alexander. Pastor
Don Morrison will officiate. Burial will take place in the Alexander
cemetery.

David George, the son of George and Carol Kepler Richards, was born Aug.
23, 1955, in Belmond. He grew up on the family farm.
David graduated from CAL Community High School in 1973. He then entered
Iowa State University in Ames and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science
degree in Agronomy in the spring of 1978. Soon after graduation, he
moved to Ottumwa and worked for a seed company. In 1983, Dave moved to
Des Moines where he worked as a stock and commodities broker. In 1990,
Dave left the brokerage business to manage Vintage Wine, a wine
distribution company until 1992. After the death of his mother he moved
back to the family farm in Alexander.
Dave enjoyed gardening, cooking, dog training, boating and politics. He
hosted many dinner parties and always made sure there was a little extra
for his guests to take home. He will be fondly remembered by his large
and diverse circle of friends for his keen intellect, sharp wit and
compassion for others.
David is survived by a sister, Joan Richards of Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his father George, his mother Carol, and his
younger brother Edward.
