Patrick W. Barrett

Mitchell - Patrick (Pat) W. Barrett, 57, of Mitchell, died unexpectedly Friday (March 18, 2011) from an apparent heart attack while trucking in South Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating.
Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.


Patrick William Barrett, son of Thomas Edward and Stella Mary (O'Rourke) Barrett, was born in Osage on Feb. 21, 1954. He attended schools in Mitchell and Osage. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1971 through 1973 and was proud to be a Vietnam veteran.

He resided for periods of time in Clinton and Rock Springs, Wyo. Pat was an owner-operator and spent most of his life driving truck throughout these United States. He worked for various trucking organizations before buying his first rig from his good friend, Mr. Huck Wilson in St. Ansgar.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding horseback, searching for Indian artifacts and more than anything, he loved his friends and his family.

Pat is survived by his wife, Irene of Mitchell; step-son, Jacob at home; mother, Stella, San Benito, Texas; brother, Michael (Janis), Williamsburg, Va.; sister, Peggy (Richard) House, Longview, Wash.; brother, Daniel, Brownsville, Texas; sister, Toni (Randy) Buck, Nora Springs; and sister, Sheila Barrett, San Benito, Texas; father-in-law, Donald Beyer, Mitchell; mother-in-law, Dorothy Beyer, Mitchell; nieces, Esther, Emily and Josie; nephews, Ethan, Thomas and Quintai; aunts, Margaret Fink, Nora Springs, and Delores Barrett, Garner; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, and two infant brothers.

ALLISON - John Jay Dircks, 39, of Allison, died Saturday (March 19, 2011) at the Waverly Health Center.

Margaret C. Djuren


MASON CITY - Margaret C. Djuren, 96, of Mason City, died Saturday (March 19, 2011) at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, March 21, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church or the Margaret C. Djuren Memorial Fund, in care of the family.

Margaret was born on Nov. 29, 1914, the daughter of Chester and Alice (Harris) Hill. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to Harm A. Djuren on Sept. 27, 1936, in Charles City, and to this union came three children: Janice, Beverly and Gordon.

Margaret was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Church Circle-Wesley Golden Age. When she wasn't being a farmer's wife, she was busy working at the dime store in Clear Lake or cooking in Hanlontown, Joyce and Manly. She loved to dance and bowl, and will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Janice (Milton) Kuhlers of Stewart, Fla., Beverly (Eldon) Olesen of Charles City; son, Gordon Djuren of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Roger Hill, and an infant brother; daughter in-law, Sharon Djuren.

Chloe Jean Garcia

MASON CITY - Chloe Jean Garcia, 68, of 2218 S. Jersey, Mason City, died Friday (March 18, 2011) at her home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Ed Bard, chaplin of Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Burial will be Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday (today) at the funeral home and one hour before the service.

Family suggests memorials to Chloe Jean Garcia Memorial Fund.

Chloe was born on July 7, 1942, in Plymouth, the daughter of Ray and Lenore (Falk) Griffith. She graduated from Plymouth High School.

Chloe married Frank Garcia on Oct. 2, 1976, in Albert Lea, Minn. She continued her education at North Iowa Area Community College and finished her education with a master's degree in social work. She worked at the Mental Health Center of North Iowa for 14 years and then Spring Harbor in Nora Springs, retiring in 2010 due to her battle with ALS. She was very devoted to her clients.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
She was a member of Plymouth Monthly Coffee Club, Parents United and was past board member of Community Credit Union.

Chloe is survived by her husband Frank Garcia, Mason City; four children, Frank (Tammy) Garcia Jr., River Falls, Wis., Tim (Shawn) Garcia, Owatonna, Minn., Krystal (Howard) Walker, Mason City, and Anne (Kevin) Moorehead, Nora Springs; nine grandchildren, Bryson Eppens, Grayson Garcia, Colby Moorehead, Cameron Morehead, Kolton Rottinghaus, Kollin Rottinghaus, Mathew Gail, Kendall Moorehead and Kayla Garcia; and one sister, Shirley (Martin) Charlson, Chino, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jerry Griffith.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of North Iowa for their excellent care and the special friends who stopped by to do her hair and nails which meant a lot to her.

Doris Elaine (Bjelland) Helgeson

LAKE MILLS - Doris Elaine (Bjelland) Helgeson, 88 of Lake Mills, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March, 24 at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, IA 50450, and again at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Family request memorials be made to Hospice of North Iowa.

Doris Elaine (Bjelland) Helgeson was born on Feb. 25, 1923, at home in Worth County, the daughter of Oscar and Emma (Sundsvold) Bjelland. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in Worth County. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1941. She attended Waldorf College in Forest City, for one year before working at Deckers Packing Plant in Mason City as a secretary. She moved back to Lake Mills in 1944 and worked as the school secretary through 1946.
On June 28, 1946, she was united in marriage with Milford Helgeson at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. Together, they made their home on a farm near Lake Mills, and began raising their family.

Doris was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, where she was active in Circles and Altar Guild. In addition to her involvement with the church, she was an active member of the Lake Mills Literary Club, The Fine Arts Club and a volunteer at the Lake Mills School.

She enjoyed cooking, reading, golfing, walking, wildlife and birdwatching and crossword puzzles.

Doris was a family woman who loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Milford; children, Janice, David, Michael and wife Rosalie, all of Lake Mills; six grandchildren, Tara (Jon) Stene, of Zumbrota, Minn., Jessica (Nick) McLawhorn, of Minneapolis, Minn., Rachel, of Minneapolis, Minn., Ryan (Kelli) Helgeson, Howell, Mich., Justin (Megan) Helgeson, of Urbandale, and Matthew (Julianne) Helgeson, of Des Moines; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jenna, William, Téa, Zoe, Drew, Josie, Hayden, Conner and Lane; and one sister, Lorraine Bliss of Lake Mills; sister-in-law Verna Helgeson of Lake Mills; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother in-law; and numerous brothers-in-laws, and sisters-in-law.

CRESCO - Katherine Louise Henry, 74, of Cresco, died Saturday (March 19, 2011) at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 25, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco. A committal service will be held at a later date in New Oregon Cemetery, Cresco.

William Henry Hines

MASON CITY - William Henry Hines, 88, Mason City, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, in Mason City, with his daughter and the wonderful people of Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center by his side.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Avenue, with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Per William's request, he was cremated and there will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

William was born on Sept. 2, 1922, in Sterling, Colorado, the son of Ruth and Henry Hines. He lived most of his life in Clear Lake and Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School and Hamilton Business College. He worked for Monroe Business Machine Company as a sales and service man for over 35 years.

In 1944, he married Agatha White from Mallard, and he always said it was the best thing that ever happened to him. They had three children: Linda, William, and Charles.

Agatha developed Scleroderma and William took wonderful care of her throughout her struggle with the disease. He and Agatha were married for 55 years before she preceded him in death in 2000.

During his life, he enjoyed fishing in Canada and South Dakota and vacations to Florida. He also enjoyed playing golf, all types of music, playing cards with friends, and good conversation. He joined First United Methodist Church in 1933, and was an active member until he was no longer able to attend in person, at which point he listened to the services on the radio each week.
 
His strong will enabled him to overcome childhood polio, as well as colon cancer later in life.

He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Mildred Lohrman, Caroline and her husband, David Maloney; his three children, Linda McCollum, William Hines, Jr. and his wife, Dana, and Charles Hines; six grandchildren, Melinda and her husband, Timothy, Michael and his wife, Jennifer, and Melody; Britton and his wife, Melissa, Benjamin and his wife, Suzanne, and Christopher; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Londyn, Ashlee, Jacob, and Emily. His memory lives on through all of his many funny sayings.

William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Marilyn Clancy; and brother, Charles Hines.

ROCKWELL - Dorothy L. Hobbiebrunken, of 216 Third St. N., Rockwell passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell. Officiating will be the Rev. Father James William Dubert.

Dorothy Lewine was born on Jan. 13, 1922, near Rockwell, the daughter of John and Erma (Scholl) McLaughlin. She lived on a farm west of Rockwell with her parents and attended country school, later graduating from Swaledale High School in 1939.

On July 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Alvin Hobbiebrunken at Swaledale, and to this union five sons were born. They made their home northwest of Thornton.

In 1968 they moved to Sheffield where she worked as a waitress and cook at the Midtown Café. Her husband retired in 1984. In May 1993, they moved to the Century Homes in Rockwell. She did volunteer work along with her church and the Sacred Heart Guild.

Dorothy is survived by three sons: Terrel and his wife Becky, South Sioux City, Neb.; Hal and his wife Judy, Hastings, Neb., Ken and his wife Brenda, Thornton; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two twin brothers Loras (Ethel) McLaughlin, Clear Lake; Loren (Margaret) McLaughlin, Mason City, a sister-in-law Delores McLaughlin, Mason City and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband in January 1994, an infant son and son Daryle in 1998, parents, a sister and brother in infancy, and one brother LaVerne McLaughlin preceded her in death.

Frances Lucille Christiansen

ST. ANSGAR - Frances Lucille Christiansen, 88, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at Windhaven Assisted Living in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.

Frances was born Aug. 13, 1922, on the Hofler Century Farm northeast of Nora Springs to Edward and Grace (Forbes) Hofler. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Nora Springs High School. She furthered her education at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. Frances then taught country school at Prairie Center until the time of her marriage to Larry Christiansen in June of 1944. They lived on various Naval bases during World War II and returned to start farming in Mitchell County.

Frances enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, president of the Ladies Aid, church circle and various other community services. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 26, 1957.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Christiansen; parents, Edward and Grace Hofler; and sister, Marcella Howe.

Frances is survived by two daughters, Janice (Richard) Stanco of Brookfield, Conn., and Shirley Fossey of Waterloo; three grandsons, Todd (Marissa) Fossey of Plymouth, Minn., Ben (Melissa) Fossey of Minnetonka, Minn., and Tim (Amy) Fossey of Otsego, Minn.; two step-grandchildren, Steve (Barbara) Stanco of Danbury, Conn., and Suzanne (Fraser) Payne of Hiawassee, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Robyn Stanco, Rowan and Addison Fossey and Mason Fossey; and three sisters Patricia Little, Aline Sutton and Anita Gerk.

Memorial donations may be directed to First Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice and Windhaven Assisted Living in Cedar Falls, where Frances recently made her home.

LATIMER - Therron Alan Miller, 45, of Latimer, died March 20, 2011, in rural Latimer.

Lucille Irene Ragan

MASON CITY - Lucille Irene Ragan, 92, Mason City, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, at First Baptist Church, 125 E. State St., with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials can be directed to the Lucille Ragan Memorial Fund or, in her name, to Hospice of North Iowa.

Lucille Irene Ragan was born on March 4, 1919, the daughter of Henry and Elise (von der Linde) Krause. She was raised on the family farm near Swaledale and graduated from Swaledale High School in 1937. After graduation she worked in New York City for two years before returning to Chicago, Ill., where she trained to become a masseuse.

While in school she met Earl D. Ragan from Little Rock, Ark., and they were married on Oct. 5, 1939, at Grace Baptist Church, Sheffield. They lived for a short time in St. Joseph, Mich., before returning to Mason City, where they operated a bath parlor until Earl entered the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II.
Following the war, they eventually returned to Swaledale and farmed on the family farm for 22 years. After retiring, they lived in Clear Lake and finally settled in Mason City in 1975, where Lucille lived until her death. During that time, she cared for her invalid mother and sister-in-law in her home for seven years.

In 1931, Lucille accepted Jesus Christ as her savior during services at the Swaledale United Methodist Church and was formally baptized by immersion at Grace Baptist Church, Sheffield.

Over the years, she served her Lord in many capacities: as a church pianist, Bible school teacher, a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years, as well as actively participating in various Bible study programs throughout her life.

She was a member of the Christian Women's Club Board of Directors for 30 years, retiring in 2006. Other organizations Lucille faithfully served in include Chapter E.A. of P.E.O., the hospital auxiliary of North Iowa Medical Center, member of Woman's Club and its board of directors, and as a member and president of Church Women United. She was active in Circle I of the Mason City First Baptist Church and was a volunteer for a number of years with Hospice of North Iowa and the Mercy Medical Center.

Lucille is survived by her son, James, and his wife, Amanda, of Mason City, their daughter Edie and her husband Joe Blanchard of Mason City, and son Charles Wishman and his wife Kate of Des Moines. She was also known as Oma to four youngsters - Amanda Blanchard, Isaac Wishman, Ivy Wishman and William Blanchard.

Lucille Ragan was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Edgar Krause, and a daughter-in-law, Joan Ragan.

HAMPTON - Diana Mae Sanders, 56, of Hampton, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Church of Christ in Hampton with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.

Walter H. "Boot" Stoltenberg

NORA SPRINGS -Walter H. "Boot" Stoltenberg, 89, of Nora Springs died early Monday morning, March 21, 2011, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse of the United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, where military honors will be presented by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Memorials may be directed to the Walter H. Stoltenberg Memorial Fund in care of the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.

Walter Herman Stoltenberg was born on Jan. 17, 1922, in rural Cerro Gordo County to Herman and Anna (Hanson) Stoltenberg. He attended country school until the eighth grade.

On July 3, 1942, Walter was united in marriage to Evelyn "Maxine" Rheingans in Mason City; to this union two children were born.

In December of 1942, Walter entered into the United States Army, where he honorably and faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge in January of 1946.

Once he returned home, Walter quickly began farming again. In 1948, Walter and Maxine moved to a farm near Rockwell where they farmed and made their home for 13 years before moving to another farm near Nora Springs. They resided outside of Nora Springs until March of 1984 when they retired and moved into town.

In his free time, Walter enjoyed spending time with his family, playing card games, especially 500, pitching horseshoes, and woodworking. He also liked watching Minnesota Twins baseball on television. Walter always delighted in getting a new vehicle, but he never strayed from his Ford models!

He was a member of the American Legion and the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs.

Walter is survived by his two children, Larry (Nancy) Stoltenberg, Palmdale, Calif., and Carrie Ann (Randy) Lowery, Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Scot (Melanie) Stoltenberg, Craig Stoltenberg, Sarah Stoltenberg, and David Stoltenberg; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Evan Stoltenberg, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Walter in death are his parents; wife, Maxine; three brothers, and one sister.

Linda Hogan

WEBSTER CITY - Linda Hogan, 85, of Webster City died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Crestview Senior Living.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at St., Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Webster City, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer as celebrant.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:45 p.m. Friday followed by a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Melinda Emily Giesking, daughter of Ernest and Emma Schmidt Giesking, was born Aug. 3, 1925, at Woden.

She received her education in the Woden Public School and also attended A.I.B. at Des Moines. She had worked at the Western Grocers in Mason City as a bookkeeper.

On June 23, 1951, she married Merlin J. (Mike) Hogan at Mason City. She had worked as a bookkeeper at Fairmont Foods and Morton Frozen Foods. She had also worked at A.S.C.S. and for 13 years had worked at Farm Journal telemarketing, retiring in 1988. Since October of 2003, she had resided at Crestview Senior Living. Mr. Hogan died May 8, 2010.

Linda is survived by daughter, Kim Hogan of Webster City; a sister, Burdella Talty of Kansas City, Kan.; brother, James Giesking of North Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorothy Riggins.

She was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of America.

Doris Evelyn Janssen

NORTHWOOD - Doris Evelyn Janssen, 84, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at her home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Ed Bard and the Rev. Karen Grandall officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood.

Doris was born April 12, 1926, in Mason City, to John and Isabel (Butcher) Deardeuff. She attended school through the eighth grade at Bath #4 in Mason City and graduated from Rockwell Public School in 1943. She furthered her education and graduated from Hamilton Business College.

She married Benjamin Janssen on Dec. 4, 1949, in Mason City and to this union two children were born. They farmed on the family farm east of Northwood until moving into Northwood in 1977.

She worked as a secretary at Monroe Junior High and as secretary and treasurer at First Lutheran Church, Northwood.

Doris considered it an honor to serve her church family at First Lutheran as parish secretary, treasurer, and board member for many years.

She treasured her time with family and friends and loved to play games of all kinds, including crosswords and jumbles.

Bud and Doris were proud members of the Grapevine Twist Square-Dance Club of Albert Lea, Minn. They traveled often with the group, dancing in parades, at fairs, in community centers and on one memorable occasion on the Continental Divide.
She was a member of Julia Circle and the Sorosis Club, as well as a longtime volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Doris was an excellent cook, especially known for her pies, butterhorn rolls and potato salad. Doris enjoyed lake fishing with Bud, including an annual trip with relatives and friends to Lake Osakis each Labor Day weekend.

Bud and Doris also traveled to California several times during the 18 years their daughter lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Dale Janssen, Nov. 6, 2009; her parents; sister Irma and her husband Orville Throne; brother Donald and his wife Maxine Deardeuff; nieces Nancy and Jan Deardeuff; nephew Michael Janssen; brother-in-law Donald Janssen; and sister-in-law Marlys Janssen.

Doris is survived by her son, John Janssen of Northwood; daughter, Mary Janssen of Northwood; brother, Les (Joan) Deardeuff of Rockwell; sisters, Marge Evans of Mason City and Arlene VanSabben of Northwood; her 102-year- old aunt, Mary Summa of McMinnville, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cathy D. Johnson

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Cathy Johnson, 62, of San Antonio, Texas, and formerly of Charles City, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, in San Antonio.

Cathy Diane Johnson was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Charles City, the daughter of Arnold and Marian (Flowers) Johnson. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1966, attended Concordia College, the University of Iowa and received her bachelor's degree from Lea College in Albert Lea, Minn.

In her early years she worked summers in various national parks where she enjoyed the great outdoors. For 34 years Cathy worked for the Animal Defense League in San Antonio, where she was able to help rescue animals, with her special interest being cats. She was currently working at Fort Sam Houston Medical Center.

Cathy loved animals, especially cats, and also had an interest in photographing old barns. Summer trips back to Iowa were always very special, not only for her but for the whole family who always looked forward to her visits. Cathy appreciated spending time with her nieces and nephews as they were all very special to her.
Living family members include her mother, Marian Johnson of Charles City; three sisters, Carol (Paul) Sensor of Hampton, Deb (Jeff) Tudor of Thornton and Kim (Tory) Menken of Charles City; and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1995 and an infant sister, Connie, in 1955.

Francisco Delgado Tovar, son of Apolonio and Maria (Delgado) Tovar, was born on March 9, 1935, in Del Rio, Texas.

On Sept. 18, 1999, he was united in marriage to Joyce L. Helm at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Frankie enjoyed attending all kinds of sporting events, barbecue's, Mexican dances and music. His best buddy was Oreo, their cat who adopted them a few years ago. You could always hear Frankie singing or humming.

Those left to cherish Frankie's memory are his wife, Joyce; three sisters, Dolores Martinez of Del Rio, Texas, Amelia Villela of Crystal Lake and Alicia (Tony) Lopez of Grand Island, Neb.; two brothers, Alfredo (Becky) Tovar and Jose (Rosa) Tovar, all of Del Rio, Texas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends and a lot of students from WCLT over the years.

Leslie (Steve) Clemons

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - On March 18, 2011 Leslie (Steve) Neal Clemons passed away peacefully from age-related causes while surrounded by his children.

He was born July 2, 1929, in Thornton, Iowa, to Leslie Lewis Clemons and Neva Imley, and was raised by his beloved step- mother Gertrude Clemons.

At the age of 18 he joined the Army Air Corps, served during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1967 after 20 years of service. He then worked at Hillfield AFB until his civil service retirement in 1989.

He married Virginia Daylene Havens in 1949. They had four children: Allen (Mary) Clemons, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Leslie Dale Clemons, Ogden; Michael (Paula) Clemons, Boulder, Mont.; Terri (Rick) Minnoch, Liberty; and Stephen (Tylyn) Mabry. Dad was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sisters and one grandchild. He is survived by his children, two brothers and one sister (C. John Clemons, Larry Clemons and Janet Bea Clemons), 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and his beloved pet Frostie.

Steve was an avid reader and loved playing his guitar at family parties and around the campfire. He also loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and especially golfing. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care provided by the Pine View Rehabilitation Center staff during Dad's illness.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held in the near future. Interment of his ashes will be in the Mesquite City Cemetery, Mesquite, Nev. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Red Cross.

Larry M. Stark

CLEAR LAKE - Larry M. Stark, 72, Clear Lake, formerly from Webster City, died Sunday March 20, 2011, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital & Health Services.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday March 26, at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Diana Hoover of Clear Lake United Methodist Church officiating. A celebration of life social gathering will be held at the Webster City Links Clubhouse immediately following.

Larry M. Stark, son of Edward and Cleo (Morrison) Stark, was born Jan. 2, 1939, at Des Moines, Iowa.

He grew up on a farm and graduated from Panora High School in 1957. He attended Simpson College and married Rosalie Cory.

Larry started working for Guthrie County in 1958 and later for Hamilton County as assistant county engineer. He received his land surveyors certification and started his own land surveying company, Stark's Land Surveying, later selling it and retiring to Clear Lake.

He served on Webster City Council, Webster City Lions Club, was active in Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever and had an avid interest in hunting, fishing and racing.

Larry is survived by his three children: Mike (Rhonda) Stark, Panora; DeAnn (Jim) Travis, Granbury, Texas; and Todd (Kim) Stark, Cedar Rapids.

Grandchildren: Dan (Dana) Stark, Panora; Brad Stark, Cedar Falls; Alexandra and Luke Travis, Granbury, Texas; Max and Gracie Stark, Cedar Rapids; sister, Mary (Paul) Peterson, Des Moines; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special friend, Jeri Dockhorn, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

Larry was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Memorials are being accepted in lieu of flowers and will be directed toward providing a memorial bench for a Hamilton County Conversation Park and/or Clear Lake.

BRITT - Anna M. Tjarks, 87, of Britt died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City.

Anna Margaret Tjarks, the daughter of Henry and Alta (Steenhard) Ahlfs, was born July 29, 1923, in Ledyard. She attended the rural schools near Buffalo Center and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1941.

After graduation Anna taught in the rural schools near Wesley. On June 11, 1943, she was married to Henry Tjarks at the Woden Christian Reformed Church. They farmed north of Wesley on the Tjarks family farm until 1972 when they moved into Britt.

Anna worked for a time in the housekeeping department at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. She enjoyed reading, sewing and visiting with family and friends.

She was a member of the Woden Christian Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school, was a leader of the Calvinettes and belonged to the Ladies Aid.
Anna is survived by her five children, Judy (Terry) Winters of Portage, Mich., Carol Fennema of Los Gatos, Calif., Vernon (Beth) Tjarks of Forest City, Janet Tjarks of Clear Lake and Deb (Doug) Potter of Joice; 10 grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Winters, Sarah (Daniel) Reeves, Amy (Benjamin) Shawley, Daniel Winters, Benjamin (Joice) Fennema, Brandon (Katayoun) Fennema, Katie (Marc) Lipovsky, Erik Tjarks and Betsy and Lindsey Potter; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Justin Winters and Calvin, Elisa and Joyanna Reeves; two sisters, Alice Malek of Garner and Erma Gettis of Lake Mills; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, Dec. 12, 2009; her parents; and a son-in-law, Roger Fennema.

Sherry Gonzalez

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn -Sherry Gonzalez, 46, of Clarksville, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Gateway Medical Center of natural causes.

Visitation with the Gonzalez family will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Clarksville, Tenn. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until funeral service time.

Funeral service is scheduled to be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28.
Mrs. Gonzalez was born Nov. 28, 1964, in Muncie, Ind., the daughter of Carl and Jorinda Brant. She moved with her family to Mason City, Iowa, in 1978. She graduated in 1983 from Mason City High School and the NIACC Nursing Program in 1985. She also graduated from Miller-Motte Technical School, Clarksville, Tenn., in 2008, and then was asked to join their team of instructors as a surgical tech coordinator, where she happily continued working until recently.

Mrs. Gonzalez is preceded in death by her Grandma and Grandpa Swift, Grandma and Grandpa Brant, Uncle John Brant, Uncle Ralph Brant, Aunt Virginia Warner, Aunt Mary Dudleston and very dear friend Evelyn Parke.
Mrs. Gonzalez is survived by her son, Matthew, of Antioch, Tenn.; daughter Michelle, of Clarksville, Tenn.; her parents, Carl and Jorinda of Mason City, Iowa; brothers Steven (Michelle) of Mason City, Iowa, and Scott (Becky) of San Antonio, Texas; Aunt Wanda (Bill) Rogers, Uncles David (Nancy) Swift, Lee Brant, Bill Brant and David Brant; nieces Emily, Mikayla and Alexus Brant; and nephews Carter Brant and Michael Wetherholt. Adeline (Menke) Perry

SEDONA, Ariz. -Adeline Perry, 86, of Sedona, Ariz., and formerly of Mason City, died March 10, 2011, in Cottonwood, Ariz.

A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, March 15, at Christ Lutheran Church in Sedona, Ariz.

Adeline was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Belmond to Lambert and Ruth Menke. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1942. She taught school in Carpenter and LaPorte City in her early years. She married Homer Perry at Central Lutheran Church in 1957. She lived in California and then in Arizona the last 30 years. Homer died in 1988.

Adeline is survived by sisters Avis Miller of Milwaukee, Phyllis Wright of Mason City and sister-in-law Marcia Menke of Mason City. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Junior "Bud" Menke and great- nephew Matt Murphy.
