Janet Olivia Porter

ESTERO, Fla. - Everyone that she met - either in passing, or over a lifetime - will miss Janet Olivia Porter. Jan's smile and laughter were silenced on Friday, March 4, 2011, in Estero, Fla. Jan was surrounded by her husband, Fred; children, Alan, Amie, Brian and Craig; granddaughter, Brianne; and son-in-law, Mike.

We will all remember her larger-than-life personality and great sense of humor. Jan lived life to the fullest every day, enjoying a game golf followed by a gin and tonic and laughter with friends and family. But Janet's true joy was being a grandma to her 12 grandchildren. Her's was always the loudest voice in the stands as the biggest cheerleader of her grandchildren whether participating in soccer, football, marching band, dance, basketball, swimming, baseball or diving. Her spirit will live on through smiles and laughter on the faces of her grandchildren.

Janet was born in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 28, 1938, one of seven children, to Walter and Sophie Glowicki. Janet married Fredrick Porter in 1958. Their twin premature daughters, Beth and Belinda, preceded her in death. Our sorrow will now be joy for them as they get their time with an incredible mother, friend and confidant.

Janet will be remembered as the one person that could pick up the spirits of a room full of people or a golf team with a wave of the hand, a smile and genuine laugh that only she seemed to have possessed. As in life, her spirit will be celebrated with joy and laughter and a little sadness at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Saturday March 12. A reception will follow.

Janet is survived by her husband, Fred; sons, Alan of Rock Island, Brian (Robin) of Long Grove, Craig (Susan) of West Des Moines and daughter, Amie (Mike) Burke of Davenport. Her 12 adoring grandchildren will dearly miss her. Friends have stopped Janet's children throughout their lives, simply commenting, "I just love your Mother!" Everyone did and forever will.
