ALDEN - Ronald Abbas, 81, of Alden, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, at the Ellis United Methodist Church, County Highway D-25, Iowa Falls.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Ave., Iowa Falls. Burial be at the Alden Cemetery, Alden, Iowa, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 201, Alden.

Darlene L. Baker

MASON CITY - Darlene L. Baker, 82, of Mason City died suddenly Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, at the Church of Christ, 710 N. Kentucky Ave., with Alan Sheldon officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Memorials may be directed to the Darlene L. Baker memorial fund in care of the family.

Darlene was born Oct. 22, 1928, in rural Austin, Minn., the daughter of Wildy and Persis (Weaver) Reckard. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1947 and attended Minnesota Bible College.

She married DeLoss Baker on Dec. 11, 1948, in Clear Lake. Darlene and DeLoss moved to Mason City in 1953. Darlene worked for the IOOF Home as a dietary aide for 21 years until her retirement in 1991.

Darlene was a member of the Church of Christ, where she belonged to many groups and participated in many church activities. She was a very active long-time member and officer of the Queen Rebekah Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant and served on the IOOF Care Review Board.

Darlene enjoyed crocheting, handiwork, gardening, canning and most of all sharing and spending time with her family, grandkids and friends. Darlene was known for her generosity, abounding love, hard work, determination and huge hugs. Darlene was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, DeLoss Baker of Mason City; children, Dianne (Richard) Mace of O'Neill, Neb.; Stephen Baker (Charlene) of Solon, Debera (John) Norton of Maple Grove, Minn., Rebecca (Richard) Ricca of San Diego, Calif., Janet (Scott) Queckboerner of Urbandale and Linda (Douglas) Miller of Mason City; 17 grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Mace, Hartford, Conn.; Tracy (Jeff) Bye, Omaha, Neb.; Briana, Sarah, Megan, Vanessa and Jeanna Norton of Maple Grove, Minn.; Tarah Schultz, Denver, Colo.; Cassie (Chris Ford) Miller, Raleigh, N.C.; Joel Miller, Denver, Colo.; Evan Schultz, Iowa City; Audrey and Braden Ricca, San Diego, Calif.; Jordan Queckboerner, Cedar Falls; Jared Queckboerner, Urbandale; Jeffery Betzer and Jennifer Zahorik, Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchild, Caden Bye, Omaha, Neb.; and Sam Betzer and Kaitlyn and Roman Zahorik, Cedar Rapids; and sisters, Vilda (Walter) Jones of Des Moines and Betty (Edward) DeVries of Sedalia, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, DeLoss Bruce Baker Jr.; granddaughter, Lori Ann Mace in infancy; sister, Bernice Sanders and brother, Clifford Huntley.

ARDMORE, Tenn. - Faye Bonjour, 90, of Ardmore, Tenn., formerly of Hampton, Iowa, died March 15, 2011, at the Hillside Hospital in Pulaski, Tenn.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton with visitation Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Pastor John Byrne will officiate the service.

Charles Marshall "Mose" Mosher

ALLISON - Charles Marshall "Mose" Mosher, 90, of Allison, died March 14, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison.

Maxine Stoltenberg
 
NORA SPRINGS - Maxine Stoltenberg, 88, of Nora Springs died Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye Ave. in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 18, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, from 5-7 p.m.

Evelyn Maxine Stoltenberg was born on Aug. 13, 1922, in Mason City to Henry and Carrie (Popingo) Rheingans. She attended and graduated from Mason City High School. On July 3, 1942, Maxine was united in marriage to Walter Stoltenberg in Mason City. To this union two children were born.

In 1948 Walter and Maxine moved to a farm near Rockwell, where they farmed and made their home for 13 years before moving to another farm near Nora Springs. They resided outside of Nora Springs until March of 1984, when they retired and moved into town. While on the farm, Maxine was a devoted wife and mother. She stayed busy raising the two children as well as helping Walter on the farm. For many years she raised chickens which in turn began her extensive chicken collection.

Maxine was an excellent cook and was known for her peach pies, which were always baked to perfection. In her free time she also liked knitting, crocheting and sewing. Maxine was active within the church, where she helped prepare and serve senior meals and also served as a janitor for some time.

Although she kept busy, Maxine always made time to spend with her family. They enjoyed summer picnics, birthday celebrations, holidays and evening nights spent playing cards together. Family was always a top priority. She also dearly loved her pet poodle, Buttons.

Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs as well as a member of the Sunshine Circle.

Those grateful for sharing in her life are her husband of 68 years, Walter; children, Larry (Nancy) Stoltenberg, Palmdale, Calif., and Carrie Ann (Randy) Lowery, Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Scot (Melanie) Stoltenberg, Craig Stoltenberg, Sarah Stoltenberg and David Stoltenberg; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Evan Stoltenberg; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Maxine in death were her parents, three sisters and one brother.

Jerry L. Wilson

SIREN, Wis. - Jerry L. Wilson, 69, a resident of Siren, passed away March 14, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m at Hauser Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City.

Pastor Gary Van Wert will be officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Thomas and Jeannine Mills. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Casketbearers will be Bill Koehler, Andrew Lydolph, Josh Hillegas, Eric Koehler, Troy Koehler and Jamey Koehler.

Jerry was born on July 26, 1941, in Charles City, Iowa, to Glenn and Arlene (Barrett) Wilson. He was a 1960 graduate of Charles City High School. He worked at White Farm Equipment for many years before retiring in 1973 due to an automobile accident. On July 19, 1969, he married Elaine Koehler of Charles City at the West St. Charles United Methodist Church in rural Charles City.

Jerry was a previous member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church and an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Webster, Wis. He filled many duties at church including trustee, and helped when the funeral committees served. He was also a member of the Webster Lions.

Jerry was a caring person who loved being with his family and enjoyed his visits from all four of his granddaughters. He enjoyed the 13 years he lived in Siren at his lake home. He took pride in his lawn as it was always top priority and very well cared for. Jerry enjoyed feeding the birds and liked to fish on his friend's private lake. He was able to get out and experience deer hunting one year and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Jerry was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers.
He enjoyed having coffee with his friends on Monday mornings.
He had taken cruise ship trips with his family and friends which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elaine of Siren, Wis.; daughter, Wendy (Matt) Ross of Charles City; four granddaughters, Erica (Andrew) Lydolph of Stockport, Danielle (Josh Hillegas, fiance) Ross of Charles City, and Sam Ross and Sydney Ross of Charles City; three great-grandchildren, Brendyn and Haylay Lydolph and Kaitlyn Ross; a brother. Robert (Frances) Wilson; and brother-in-law, Arvin Tibbitts.

Pamela S. (Amsden) Craig

MASON CITY - Pamela S. (Amsden) Craig, 52, of Mason City, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, in her home.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

There will be no viewing and her remains will be cremated as per her request.

Pam was born Sept. 13, 1958, the daughter of Ray and Virginia Amsden. She was employed by the Sioux City Community School District for more than 14 years.
Pam is survived by two daughters: Amy (Marko) Reyes and Sarah (John) Raymond; and one son, Matthew Craig. She was a wonderful grandmother to two grandsons who both adored her.

Frances Steinberg

TITONKA - Frances Steinberg, 88, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, following a long illness.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Titonka, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Frances Margaret Bruns was born on March 15, 1923, in rural Titonka, to Ewald and Elizabeth Tjaden Bruns. Frances was baptized and confirmed and a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. She attended German Valley schools, rural Titonka.

On Nov. 21, 1957, Frances was united in marriage to Robert Steinberg at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. They farmed north of Titonka for many years, moving into Titonka in December of 1989. Frances moved to Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City in July 2006 and then moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake in July 2010.

Frances loved to visit with her family and friends and share a cup of coffee or tea. She always looked to the needs of others before her own needs. Frances loved watching cardinals when she was on the farm and started a cardinal collection when she moved to town. Both Forest Plaza and Oakwood staff remember her clever wit and great sense of humor.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Lynda and husband, Steve, Nelson of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Galyn and wife, Diane, of Forest City, and Bruce and wife, Julie, of Clear Lake. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Angela and Chad Lappe of Forest City, Jessica and Greg Hulse of West Des Moines, Nicole and Cody Henniger of Forest City, James Steinberg of Fort Collins, Colo., Matthew Nelson of Cedar Falls, and Stephanie Nelson of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren: Haley and Logan Lappe of Forest City and Chloe Henniger of Forest City; sister-in-laws Alice Bruns of Titonka, Marlys Bruns of Titonka, Shirley Steenhard of Buffalo Center and Olga Steinberg of Mapelton, Minn.;and several nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, on Jan. 6, 1991; her parents, Ewald and Elizabeth; her sister Wilda Bruns; and two brothers, Harold and Mervin Bruns.

Ralph H. Willert

ROCKFORD - Ralph H. Willert, 94, of 1820 230th St., Rockford, died Wednesday evening, March 16, 2011.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville. Officiating will be the Msgr. Walter Brunkan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, Iowa. A Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Roseville Cemetery.

Ralph Henry was born one of three sons to Henry Louis and Minnie Augusta (Brandenburg) Willert on June 20, 1916.

Surrounded by his family, Ralph passed away at home on the family farm where he was born and raised.

Ralph graduated from the Rockford High School in 1935. He continued on the farm, working hard all of his life. He loved raising his Angus cattle and tending to the farmstead, always keeping it immaculate. He joined the membership of St. Mary's Catholic Church when he was united in marriage to Thelma C. Staudt on Feb. 16, 1944, at St. Mary's. He rarely if ever missed Mass and continued that tradition almost to the time of his death. He also drove his car up until January of this year.
Ralph honorably served his country for a short time until he received a medical discharge. Ralph received several awards for his work on the farm and with various farming groups. In 1986, Ralph received an award for being the first farmer in Floyd County to raise 200-plus bushel corn. He was a member of the Iowa Cattleman's Association and served on the Floyd County Board. Thelma and he very much enjoyed raising the family of two boys, and being with the six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In the early years he and Thelma would attend dances at the Moose and Elks Lodges in Charles City where they were members. On Sunday's after church they looked forward to going to the old mall in Charles City where they could visit with family and friends. Ralph was a sports fan and enjoyed watching basketball and being a Vikings fan.

His surviving family members include his two sons and their wives, David R. (Janice) and Dennis R. (Janet) Willert all of Rockford, six grandchildren: Annette Willert, Wisconsin; Gina (Travis) Schumacher, New Hampton; Kristin (James) Whaley, Lake Geneva, Wis.; Rick, Cassandra and Derek Willert, all of Rockford; four great grandchildren: Alex and Rylee Schumacher, Hannah Johnson and Lily Grace Whaley; and two nieces: Colleen (Joe) Hellige of California and Mary Pat (Ron) Dulle, of Colorado.

His wife who died June 19, 1996, parents and two brothers, Arthur and Robert Willert, preceded Ralph in death.

Ralph Edward Brandt

EUREKA, Kan. - Ralph Edward Brandt, 72, of Eureka, Kan., formerly of Osage, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kan.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 20, at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd, with Pastor Paul Phillips officiating.
Cremation has been effected.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1938, in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Edward and Carmen (Kindschuh) Brandt. He was raised in Austin, Minn., and Osage, Iowa, where he attended school. He worked at Oliver Tractor as a mechanic before becoming a trucker. He worked for several different trucking firms before his retirement in 2000. He moved to Eureka in 2007.

Ralph was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church in Eureka.

He is survived by four children, Colleen Brandt (Tom) of Forest City, Iowa; Toni Hanson (Duane) of Osage, Iowa; Shawna Brandt (Brian) of Northwood, Iowa; and Jason Brandt (Tasha) of Eureka, Kan.; nine grandchildren: Zack Brandt, Courtney Foell, Samantha Hanson, Jesse Lowder, Krystal Brandt, Jase Brandt, Kassi Brandt, Reis Brandt and Rayna Brandt; one great-grandchild, Noah Brandt; one step-great-grandchild, Aiden; and one sister, Marcia Smith of Osage.

Nancy Jo Cerwinske

ROCKFORD - Nancy Jo. Cerwinske, 63, of 1661 190th St., Rockford, Iowa, died Thursday March 17, 2011 at her home.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday March 22, at the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Family suggests memorials to Rudd United Methodist Church, Rudd. Family will greet friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, Iowa.

Nancy was born on May 12, 1947, in Waterloo, the daughter of Silas and Hazel (Schellhase) Thomsen. She attended and graduated from Orange Township School.

Nancy married Allan Cerwinske on Nov. 25, 1967, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Nancy loved her animals and never turned away a stray. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Allan Cerwinske, Rockford; two children Laurel (Jon) Skinner, Carl Junction, Mo. and Lyndy (B.J.) Bruck, Rockford; two grandchildren Miranda Skinner and Preston Bruck; sister Sharon (Bill) O'Connor, LaPorte City; nephew Randy (Cindy) O'Connor, Peoria, Ariz.; sister-in-law Lois (Robert) Carroll, O'Neil, Nebraska, three nieces Gwen (Brian) Compton, Billings, Mont., Jennifer (Todd) Abbott, Florida and Chris (Charles) Bergman, Lincoln, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Tara and infant brother Marvin.

Sandra Adele Lindsay

MASON CITY - Sandra Adele Lindsay, 75, Mason City, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial service for Sandra will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Ave., Mason City, with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason City. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.

According to her wishes, cremation will take place.

Those wishing to give memorial contributions in Sandra's name may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Jubilee Bell Ringers at the church in her memory.

Sandra Adele Lindsay was born on March 24, 1935, in Des Moines, the daughter of Dale and Adele (Rathbun) Hays. Sandra attended Mason City Community Schools, graduating from Mason City High School. Sandra worked at Mercy Hospital in Mason City for a few years. She was united in marriage to John Lindsay on Sept. 25, 1954, in Mason City, and to this union three children were born: Edith, Jay, and Curtis. After their marriage, together they farmed northeast of Mason City for 57 years, moving into Mason City on July 1, 2008.

Sandra enjoyed fishing at their cabin in Canada and upper Minnesota, gardening, reading, crocheting, sewing, playing bridge and 500 cards, bowling, flowers flying with her husband in their private plane, entertaining, spending time with family and grandchildren, and her church.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and the church circle in Mason City. Sandra also enjoyed visiting the shut-ins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, John Lindsay of Mason City; her children, Edith Lindsay of Mason City, Jay (Linda) Lindsay of Mason City, and Curtis Lindsay and his fiancé Eileen Hare of Webster City; four grandchildren, Cassandra, Alexis, Natalie, and Noah Lindsay; her brothers and sisters, Richard (Sharon) Hays of Mason City, Janet Hays of Forks, Wash., Amy (Jim) Mammen of Roseville, Minn., and Steve (Pam) Hays of Mason City; her sister-in-law, Mabel Hays of Nora Springs; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Adele Hays, and her brother, Davie Hays.

OSAGE - Richard R. Sonberg, 77, of Osage died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Faith Home in Osage.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser and Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Following the funeral Mass, cremation will take place with inurnment at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home with a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday until 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

Richard was born Aug. 12, 1933, on the family farm near St. Ansgar, the son of Ralph and Vera (Tesch) Sonberg. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1951. Richard attended Wisconsin Technical School in La Crosse, Wis.

He was united in marriage to Annette Michels on Nov. 24, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. Richard farmed and also operated a construction company. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Richard enjoyed outdoor life, dancing at polka fests in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Texas, playing cards, working in his shop, gardening and assisting with the children's farming operations.

Richard is survived by his wife, Annette Sonberg of Osage; his children, James (Donna) Sonberg of Osage, Ron (Sherri) Sonberg of Charles City, Jean (Ron) Valasek of Osage, Larry (Sheila) Sonberg of Morrison, Ill., Connie (Vince) Morische of Osage; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Vance of Osage, Marie Mullenbach of Tucson, Ariz., Alice Chezik of Osage; and one brother, Clifton (Eileen) Sonberg of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Adrian Sonberg.

Lorna O. Stern

ROCKFORD - Lorna O. Stern, 90, of 211 Seventh St. N.E., Rockford, died Thursday (March 17, 2011) with her family at her side, at the Nora Springs Care Center, where she was a resident for only a week.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 21, at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 East Main, Rockford. Officiating will be the Pastors Alan Schultz and Patricia Shaw. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday (today) at the Church.

Lorna Otillia was born the fourth child of Sanford and Ida (Williamson) Carlson on Jan. 27, 1921, on the family farm near Blooming Prairie, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin. She attended country school, graduating from the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Warren Stern on July 3, 1938, in Cresco. They farmed in various locations in Minnesota including Taopi, LeRoy, and Adams. Warren and Lorna moved their family to Iowa when he was employed at the Oliver Farm Equipment Company in Charles City. They lived first near Elma, then rural Rockford, and moved into Rockford in 1948.

Lorna helped with the work on the farm, including milking cows and raising chickens. For many years she raised a vegetable garden and enjoyed canning and freezing the produce. She loved flowers and will be remembered for her "green thumb." When the children were older, she worked outside the home. She was a cook at the Rockford school, worked at the Rockford Brick and Tile Company, and was a seamstress for the Mode O'Day clothing factory in Mason City. For many years, Warren and Lorna enjoyed spending their summers fishing on Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota. A favorite trip for them was in 1962 when they traveled by train to Tacoma, Wash., to visit Diane and Timm while he was in the Army. For the last twelve years of Warren's life, she cared for him at home.

She was very talented with the crochet hook and knitting needles. Family members have many afghans, doilies, and other items to cherish. She also made lovely doilies with beads, many things with plastic canvas, and hats and purses out of beverage cans. Lorna was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and had a special place on her living room wall with many pictures of them. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-great-granddaughter in June.

Surviving Lorna are her three children, Leona and her husband Morris Parcher, Dale and his wife Janet Stern, and Diane and her husband Lyle "Timm" Marker, all of Rockford; seven Grandchilden including Leona and Morris' children Kenneth (Rebecca) Parcher, Northwood, Paul (Kara) Parcher, Rockford, David (Joan) Parcher, Navarre, Fla., Karen (Jason) Moss, Council Bluffs, and Diane and Timm's children Leon (Vicky) Marker, Rockford, Troy Marker and fiancé Chira, Centerville, and Craig Marker, Nora Springs; 15 great-grandchildren, Christopher (Sabrina) Parcher, Matthew, Lauren, Ethan, Leigh and Shaun Parcher, Kyle, Austin, and Benjamin Moss, and Cory, Curtis, Garrett, Sadye, Dylan and Calen Marker. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Emily Carlson, Lois Carlson, Marlene and her husband Stan Radunz; brothers-in-law Eldred (Butch) Mayzlik, Donald Stern, George Ulrick, Sr., and special friends Fred and Margaret Schultz, Mason City, and Donavon and Juanita Schuster, Des Moines.

Lorna was preceded in death by her husband Warren in 1995; parents; three sisters, Ruth Bos, Iola Harrington, Donna Mae Mayzlik; three brothers, Sylvester, Palmer, and Roger Carlson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Elora Grace Parcher.

HAMPTON - Christy Sue Wood, 57, of Hampton, passed away March 16, 2011, at her home in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of the Living Word in Hampton.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Church of the Living Word in Hampton. Pastor Jon Anderson will officiate the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield.

She was born May 24, 1953, in Mason City to Roy C. and Melinda (Oldag) Miller.

Christy graduated from Sheffield High School. She was united in marriage to Ray Wood on Sept. 26, 1975, in Hampton. Christy previously worked for the Franklin County Alcoholism Service Center. She was a member of the Church of the Living Word in Hampton and was very active in many church activities. Christy is survived by her husband, Ray Wood of Hampton; daughter Shanlynn Estes of Eldora; daughter Tammatha (Doug) Dufoe of Grinnell; daughter Monica (Fred Elling) Wood of Alden; son Shane Wood of Eldora; son Roy A. Betty E. Gooder

TULSA, Okla. - Betty E. Gooder, 86, formerly of Mason City, left this earth to join her Heavenly Father on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Oklahoma Methodist Manor, Tulsa, Okla.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 26, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, and a reception will be held to celebrate her life at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., Mason City, following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to Grace United Methodist Church.

Betty was born in Mason City on July 4, 1924, and was the daughter of the late George and Jannetta Scheef. Betty graduated from Mason City High School in 1942. She dedicated her life to her Lord, her husband and family and her church family and friends. She was a devout wife and incredible mother and she dearly loved her eight grandchildren and all of her great grandchildren. Betty married George C. Gooder, also of Mason City, on Oct. 6, 1943.

Betty was baptized and married at Grace United Methodist Church in Mason City where she served as church organist for 42 years.

She received her degrees in nursing from North Iowa Area Community College in 1978 and spent the next 14 years serving the elderly in her community. Betty will be remembered by her family and friends for her quiet and gentle spirit, her wonderful sense of humor and her ability to accept life on its own terms.
Betty is survived by her sister, Peggy Cook of Pocatello, Idaho, four children: Konnie Mikes (Paul) of Tulsa, Okla., Judy Ziesmer (Richard) of Collinsville, Okla., John Gooder (Diane) of Rockford, Iowa, and Steve Gooder (fiance, Robin Wagner) of Nora Springs, Iowa; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, her grandson, Allan Patton, and her great granddaughter Madison Patton.

ROWAN - Terry L. Holmes, 51, of Rowan, died Friday (March 18, 2011) at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Burial will be in the Graceland cemetery near Rowan.

Rudd - Eilene M. Morische, age 84, of Rudd, entered into eternal rest on Friday (March 18, 2011) at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook.

Eilene was born on Dec. 19, 1926, in Osage, the daughter of John and Emilie (Troge) Muller. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar Township. Eilene attended the Dudley rural school and graduated from Osage High School in 1945. On Nov. 25, 1956, she married Vern Morische at St. John's Lutheran Church. Eilene was employed at Home Trust and Savings Bank for 12 years. She was a member of the LWML at St. John's and taught Sunday school for many years. Eilene enjoyed her family, gardening and flowers, and helping Vern on the farm.

Eilene is survived by her husband, Vern Morische of Rudd; her children, Karen (Walter) Cheeseman of Grundy Center, Marilyn (Leon) Fahrmann of Alexander, John (Julie) Morische of Rudd; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Lacey) Cheeseman, Brent Cheeseman, Emily Cheeseman, Jennifer Fahrmann, Garrett (Natalie) Fahrmann, Carrie Fahrmann, Rebecca Fahrmann, Benjamin Fahrmann, Bethany Morische, Kimberly Morische, and Jeffrey Morische; and four great-grandchildren, Cael, Blake, and Maegan Cheeseman, and Riley Fahrmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lloyd, Eldred, and Theodore Muller; and two sisters, Leona Muller, and Lorene Brand.

Vivian Decker Quam

NORTHWOOD - Vivian Decker Quam, 78, of Northwood, formerly of Floyd and Nashua, died Saturday (March 19, 2011) at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.
Funeral services for Vivian Quam will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Pastor Karen Grandall will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Vivian Nelda Ida Kalke Decker Quam was born on Jan. 19, 1933, in Floyd County, the daughter of Milo and Viola (Kamin) Kalke. She graduated from Floyd High School. Vivian also attended North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa State University for income tax courses. On Sept. 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Decker at Austin, Minn. Lloyd died on Oct. 1, 1994.

Vivian married Gaylen Quam on May 4, 1996, at Northwood. For many years Vivian was a tax consultant in Charles City, and then at Northwood. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and working with numbers and math. Vivian was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Her interests included reading, sewing and canning. She sewed over 500 quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. Vivian also enjoyed singing in the past with the choir at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd and was the soloist for many weddings at the Little Brown Church. She will always be remembered for her love of others and sharing life's experiences with them.

Living family members include her husband, Gaylen Quam of Northwood; a daughter, Joy (Tom) Krieger of Nashua; three sons, Michael Decker of Sanborn, Russell (Wendy) Decker of Osage and Gene Quam of Northwood; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Foote, Jesse Krieger, Luke Decker, Matthew Decker, Justin Kadner, Josh Decker and Trevor Decker; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Nona Smith of Dike; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd.

Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Quilters Club.
