Danny C. Leuwerke
THOMPSON
- Danny C. Leuwerke, 54, of Thompson died unexpectedly on Monday, June
6, 2011.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial
will take place immediately following the ceremony at Linden Lutheran
Cemetery in rural Thompson, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at Petersen Lund
Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City, and will continue an hour
prior to service at the church.
Danny Curtis Leuwerke, oldest child of Curtis and Mary Leuwerke, was
born July 28, 1956, in Britt. He attended school in Britt, Crystal Lake
and Ventura, graduating from Ventura High School in 1974. Following
graduation, Danny became involved in farming, a career he pursued and
loved his entire life.
Danny's cousin, Randy Leuwerke, introduced Danny to Kathy in the summer
of 1975. Danny and Kathy were married in 1977 and in April of 2011
celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. They started their life
together living east of Forest City until 1994, at which time they moved
to their current home southwest of Thompson.
Danny had an immense love for farming, experiencing all that a life tied
to agriculture has to offer, enjoying the challenges that each new day
provided. An avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, Danny had been able
to more recently attend several games with Jeff and Brad, an occasion he
looked so forward to that he insisted on being at the stadium at least
three hours before anything started to ensure he missed nothing.
Danny had a knack for fixing things, whether it be a piece of farm
equipment or the restoration of old tractors and cars. There wasn't much
to be found that he couldn't repair.
Traveling had also become a hobby that Danny took great pleasure in.
Whether it was a cross-country camping trip or a few hours away to meet
with his sons and their family/friends, Danny loved being able to spend
time with Kathy even if it was debating about how to get to where they
needed to go after one of them (her name was the shortcut queen) had
given a wrong direction 50 miles back.
Sadly, Danny and Kathy had several travel plans, along with many other
future endeavors, that were cut short. However, he leaves us knowing
that the years he did have were spent with a loving wife, two sons he
raised well and a wealth of family and friends who cared a great deal
for him.
Danny is survived by his wife Kathy of 34 years; two sons, Brad of
Janesville, Minn., and Jeff and his wife, Beth, of Elk River, Minn.; his
mother, Mary Trappe of Northwood; a sister Kathy Price and husband
Brian; a brother Paul Leuwerke; and numerous nieces, nephews, and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis, and brother, Greg.

Ruth Ann Scholl
MASON
CITY - Ruth Ann Scholl, 81, of Mason City died unexpectedly on Tuesday,
June 7, 2011, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 11, at Major
Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Don Preston
of Manly Bethel United Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Friday, June 10, at Major Erickson
Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers memorials may be directed to the Ruth Ann Scholl memorial fund
in care of the family.
Ruth Ann Scholl was born Jan. 28, 1930, in rural Mason City, the
daughter of Wayne and Ruth (Wharam) Coe. She grew up in the rural Mason
City area. After graduating high school, she attended Mason City Junior
College and became a
teacher.
She taught school in Milford and Swaledale, until starting a family in
1954. On May 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Henry F. Scholl in
Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1957 they built a new home in Mason City
where Ruth has lived ever since. The couple was blessed with four
children, Kevin, Tim, Cindy and the youngest Susan who passed away in
2004. Ruth's husband died in a construction accident on Sept. 14, 1961.
Left with the burden of raising four small children and a mountain of
bills to pay, she didn't let that get her down. Being the hardworking,
strong and determined woman she was, she took many different jobs
through the years to support her family all on her own, which was very
difficult for a single mother in that day and age. None of her family
ever went without and she still had a heart of gold. She worked at
Decker's Packing Plant from 1970 until her retirement in 1984.
Being the devoted and loving mother, grandmother and friend she was, her
children, her friends and anyone who knew her, loved and respected her
deeply. Everyone was welcome in the Scholl household and many kids often
called her Mom, and some still do to this day.
Her smile would warm the room and your heart too. She loved to cook and
always had something going on in the kitchen. She really loved cooking
for someone and for family holidays. Many of her recipes will be missed.
Ruth also loved to play cards and was always ready for a game. She also
loved to play bingo - she never won much, but loved to play anyway. The
world lost an amazing woman on Tuesday, but heaven gained a perfect
angel.
Ruth's memory will live on in the hearts of her surviving family, Cindy
and husband, Larry Roberts, Kevin Scholl and Tim Scholl, all of Mason
City; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings Dwayne Coe of
Mason City, Jim Coe of Parkers Prairie, Minn., and Elda Theilen of
Rockford; sisters-in-law Mrytle Coe and Margaret Coe both of Mason City;
numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Susan Scholl in
2004; parents; and brothers Keith Coe, Dick Coe and Ellis Coe.
