Hazel (Reyerson Dralla) Shaw

FARGO, N.D. - Hazel (Reyerson) (Dralla) Shaw, 96, of Fargo, N.D., formerly of Northwood, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, June 6, at First Lutheran Church in Northwood, at 11 a.m.

Hazel was born May 9, 1915, to Roy and May (Brua) Reyerson in rural Northwood. She was baptized into the Christian faith on June 6, 1915, and confirmed on Aug. 3, 1930, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, Northwood. She attended rural school and high school in Northwood.

She married Leo G. Dralla at the Silver Lake Parsonage on Oct. 4, 1933. To their union two daughters were born. During World War II, Hazel and Leo moved to Eddystone, Pa., to work for the war effort. Leo welded ships and Hazel worked in the defense plant making parts for the ships. They were both active air-raid wardens for their community.

Hazel enjoyed being active. She was always very active in her church wherever she lived, as a Sunday school teacher, participant in ladies aid as a member and officer, prayer group and singing in the choir. She loved her garden and flowers and always had plenty to share with neighbors and friends. She also served as a 4-H leader when her girls where in 4-H.

Hazel was a very creative person. She enjoyed painting, quilting, crafts, crocheting, knitting, embroidery work and became a beautiful weaver of pillows and wall hangings and also wove many rugs. She also owned and operated Hazel's Drive-In as a family project when her girls where in High School.

Hazel and Leo moved to Manchester, Iowa, in 1958, where they built many new homes. Leo and his crew would do the building and Hazel did all the painting and varnishing. Leo died Feb. 9, 1963, in Manchester. After his death she was invited to join a couple's bowling league and met Leonard Shaw. They were later married at First Lutheran Church in Manchester. They relocated to Inverness, Fla., where they took up golfing and their new-found hobby of polishing rocks and making beautiful jewelry which they sold every Saturday at the local flee market.

Golf became her main game and she had three holes-in-one which was amazing since she didn't start golfing until she was over 50. They also enjoyed water skiing and fishing. They moved back to Northwood in their later years to be closer to family.

Leonard died on April 21, 2001, and Hazel then moved to Fargo, N.D. While in Fargo she enjoyed attending school events and musicals of her great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Mavis E. (Ray) Wagner and Eileen H. Dahlby; grandchildren Deanna (Dahlby) Krull, Dale Dahlby, Miriam (Everett) Vogel, Reece (Alan) Klobe, Theta (Wade) Wagner-Miller and great grandchildren Jesse (Erin) Krull, Chad (Allyson) Krull, Leah and Amanda Vogel, Kendra Klobe, Clarissa and Quinn Wagner-Miller, step-children Sandra (Shaw) Groves and Kenneth (Kay) Shaw and their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Reyerson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and May (Brua) Reyerson, husbands Leo Dralla and Leonard Shaw and her brother, Maurice Reyerson.

In the last few years she may have forgotten many things but she never forgot to pray. Alzheimer's disease may have taken her memory and finally her life but it can never take away our memory of her.

Bonnie Jordan Dickes

MASON CITY - The family of Bonnie Jordan Dickes is saddened at the passing of their wonderful and loving wife, mother, beloved grandmother and sister. Bonnie departed her earthly bond on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Remember her as a good and decent woman taken to her rest; blessed be her memory.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Craig E. Steimel as celebrant.

Visitation will be held on Monday evening, June 6, from 5-7 p.m. at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

The daughter of the late Elmer and Ada Jordan was born on Nov. 3, 1924, in Coleridge, Neb., and was raised on a Nebraska farm. She met Raymond Dickes on Easter Sunday 1940 at the Dickes Family farm in Osmond, Neb. They married Sept. 5, 1942, and she has been his beloved wife for 68 years. While Raymond served his country as a U.S. Marine in the South Pacific during World War II, Bonnie joined the war effort from home supporting the troops at the Martin Aircraft plant in Omaha, Neb. Their first child, Allen, was born shortly after Mr. Dickes was deployed to active duty.

Bonnie was active in raising their children who now reside in Kansas, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, Texas and Minnesota. Her legacy of dedication, devotion and love lives on in their six children along with her gift of joy through family love and unity.

Mrs. Dickes was active in the Republican Party, volunteered for many charities, school activities, the Mason City Public Library and, quite fittingly, received awards and honors for her service. Bonnie also was a talented vocalist and guitarist. Upon moving to Mason City, Bonnie developed a passion for golf which she enjoyed with Raymond.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was predeceased by her beloved grandson, William Dickes, and brother, Wendell Jordan.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond N. Dickes of Mason City, her sister, Beverly Jordan Johnson, her six children, Allen, Barbara, Lawrence, Bruce, Raymond, and Steven, and daughters-in-law Colleen, Janis, Cathleen, Sharon and Loretta Dickes. She also is survived by her eleven adoring grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie's remarkable life stands as a testament to her hard work, leadership and the unlimited potential of her loving spirit. We deeply mourn her passing.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Catholic Charities in care of St. Joseph's Parish, Mason City.

George Kockler

Bancroft - George Kockler, 78, passed away peacefully Friday (June 3, 2011) at his home after extended hospitalization in Mason City and Algona.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Bancroft, with Father Paul D. Bormann officiating, with burial in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Bancroft American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft with a Scripture Prayer Service beginning at 7 p.m. followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary.

Born Sept. 3, 1932, he was the eldest of eight children born to Walter and Lucille (Kollasch) Kockler, who maintained a family farm north of Bancroft that is still farmed by brother Art. George graduated from St. John High School in 1950 and after brief stints of employment for Richard Menke and LeRoy Schiltz, he served the residents of northern Kossuth County grading secondary roads, clearing all surfaces during inclement weather, and for several summers, assisting at the sanitary landfill near Burt. Sick days and vacations were rare occurrences as the needs of his rural patrons were imperative, many nights sleeping at the county shed to ensure that he could get his "V"-plow or better yet in later years, his new tandem snow plow out on the roads early the next morning.

But just as he cherished working for the people of Kossuth County for over 50 years, evenings and weekends, George helped good friends like Jim Doyle, a local excavator, Kenny, "Jiggs," Billy, Tommy or next-door neighbor Francis Menke, local truck line owners, and Lester Polzin and Harvey Heyer, area truckers as well. Upon retirement from the county on Christmas Day in 2004, George found new resolve by helping Tom Antoine with seasonal field work, even with this fall's past harvest.

George served his community as a city council member during three decades, his country by enlisting in the Army during the Korean War, and continuing his patriotic allegiance as a member in the American Legion for the past 50 years.

Perseverance and commitment were stalwarts of George's nature, but none could be further testament to that of his future family. After an initial date, the then Annette Mae Becker cancelled a scheduled reservation with a different young man because she knew after her first date with George that he was something special. Following a year-long wooing while Annette wanted to teach, the couple married on June 1, 1957, and the two have since been faithful, life-long mates ever since, keeping the faith as exemplification to their children.

Left sharing the memory are his wife of 54 years, Annette; daughter Kathryn (Daniel)
Studer of Titonka and their children Danielle, Amie, David, Katie, Alyssa, Krista and Anne, and three Studer great-grandchildren, Timothy, Jerritt and Gracie; Jeanne (Brian) Rippentrop of Woden and their children Anthony and Christopher; Susanne (Jim) Wesselmann of Remsen and their children Jason, Sara, Michael, Matthew and Jacob; Tom (Shelia) Kockler of Remsen and their children Holly, Tanner, and Joseph; Carol (Jeff) Lowe of Bellevue and their children Brian, Lauren, and Marissa; and Tony (Ann) Kockler of Clear Lake and their children Amanda, Andy, Jacob and Jared. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister, Paul (Arlene) of Pleasantville, Barbara (Roger) Meyer of St. Paul, Minn., Harold (Pat) of San Jose, Calif., Allen (Kathy) and Don (Deb) of Nevada, Art (Janette) of Bancroft, and Bill (Carol) of Saint Jacob, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding George in death were his parents Walter (May of 1999) and Lucille (April of 2011).
To him and them be the glory forever and ever.
