He worked for Bratrud's Yamaha, Manny's Sinclair, Vic's Pizza, Lehigh Cement Co., and especially enjoyed being a bouncer at Warehouse 10 and Lu's Lounge. He was also employed by the D.O.T. for 21 years, until a June 10, 2005, accident disabled him, forcing him to retire.

Quez had a true passion for life. He loved the roar of an engine, the squeal of tires, the smell of burnt rubber. He enjoyed riding his Harley with his many friends. Dan always loved riding through the Black Hills of South Dakota during the Sturgis Rally with all his "buddies."

This big kid also enjoyed his hot rods and classic cars that he had redone over the years. Dan and Candy attended many car shows and looked forward to the Car Craft Summer Cruise in St. Paul every year.

Dan also had a compassionate and sensitive side for animals, his friends and his family. His dynamic smile and infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dan is survived by his wife, Candy Pitkin; mother-in-law, Marilyn "Jo" Meyer of Clear Lake; brothers-in-law, Tim Meyer of Clear Lake, Brad (Nancy) Meyer of Apple Valley, Minn.; niece, Kathryn Meyer of Apple Valley, Minn., and was "PAPA" to many four-footed fuzz balls; adopted brothers, Rick Klunder of Mason City, Kenny Pals of Thornton and Vance (Kim) Wendel of Clear Lake; adopted grandchildren, Nicole, Madi and Sean Wendel of Clear Lake; adopted sister, Dawn (Steve) Havey of Clear Lake; aunts, Josie Ruiz of Mason City, Anna Vasquez of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Lupe Reyes of California; uncle, Rufus (Alice) Vasquez of Mason City. He is also survived by many cousins, as well as many special friends.

When tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

Clyde W. Shackleton
U.S. Marines (1947-1950)

MANLY - Clyde W. Shackleton, 81, of Manly, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at his home in Manly.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with Pastor David Magner officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth where military honors will be conducted by members of the Edward Tosel American Legion Post No. 110 of Manly.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to Clyde's service on Monday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Clyde's name in care of his family.

Clyde Wayne Shackleton was born on Sept. 4, 1929, to Elmer and Inez Shackleton in Pawnee, Missouri. As a child he attended country schools in the area and later went to Eagleville, Mo.

In 1947 Clyde joined the Marine Corps, served his time and was discharged in 1950 with full military honors. Also during this time he met Ellabelle Mathis and they were married on June 23, 1949. Clyde and Ella had a beautiful life together in which they raised seven children.

Throughout most of his married life, Clyde was a hardworking farmhand. He took great pride in his accomplishments and was a wonderful, caring and loving father.

Clyde's children have all expressed some of their fondest memories: Such as their big tough Daddy shedding tears when he had to help one of them move away from home for the first time, or when living in Montana going out with Dad when they saw and brought home their first deer. Another remembers how Dad was a man of few words, but when he did speak you better listen because he always knew what he was talking about and one didn't expect to win a game of chess or checkers because Dad was the "Champ".

Clyde's idol in life was John Wayne but to his children, Clyde was John Wayne.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Ella; two daughters, Linda Tedder and Brenda Crom and her husband John of Mason City; four sons, Nick and his wife Janet of Manly, Ed and his wife Shelly of Mason City, Gary and his wife Cindy of Plymouth, and Danny Paul and his wife Tracy of Mason City; 24 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; his sister Irene Webb and her husband Jack and his brother Eugene and his wife Gwen; as well as other extended family members and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Inez, his brother Ora Dale and wife Mary Lou, and by his son Randy.

Ella Mae Wilson

CLEAR LAKE - Ella Mae Wilson, 92, of Clear Lake, died Thursday Aug. 11, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

It was Ella Mae wishes was to be cremated, and that no memorial services be held.
Ella Mae was born Oct. 18, 1918, in rural Hartington, Neb., the daughter of Louis and Edna Dale.

Ella Mae married Lyle Wilson, and had three daughters; Carol, Lonnie, and Eloise. She has thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Ella Mae had many hobbies; she loved to read, sew, quilt, and make rugs, garden (especially exotic plants), keeping up with current events, and visiting with friends and her peers in the nursing home.

Ella Mae's greatest joy was sharing her faith with others. She was baptized on Aug. 27, 1960, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was active until her death. Her last thoughts were on the Kingdom promise, as she was heard humming a Kingdom song. She firmly believed 2 Corinthians 4:18 said: "While we keep our eyes, not on the things seen, but on the things unseen. For the things seen are temporary, but the things unseen are everlasting."

Ella Mae will be greatly missed by her family and friends - until we meet again!
