CITY - Dorlin D. Crum, 85, of 1037 Nineteenth Street S.W., Mason City,
died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 4, at Grace United
Methodist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Steve Hanson officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military
honors by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at the
Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, and then one hour before
the service on Monday, April 4, at the church. Family suggests memorials
to Humane Society.
Dorlin was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Nora Springs, the son of Dale and
Hannah (Manninga) Crum. He graduated from Nora Springs High School in
1943.
He entered the
United States Navy
Nov. 23, 1943, and served on the USS Tulagi as a electrician during
WWII
and was discharged in 1946. He married Mary Lou Fields to which this
union their son Duane was born. On Dec. 7, 1952, he married Mary Ann
Hungerford in Austin, Minn. To this union their daughter Ann was born.
Following the service he worked for Northwestern Cement Plant for over
30 years, retiring in 1984.
He enjoyed fishing and fishing trips with his buddy Herkamore his dog;
gardening, reading, traveling and camping with his wife.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Mason City, and Mason
City
V.F.W.
and American Legion.
He is survived by his two children Duane (Roxanne) Crum and Ann (Earl)
Miner, both of Mason City; three grandchildren, Katie (Nick) Koenigs,
Plymouth, Tom Nestvedt, Mason City, and Amy Whitney, Mason City, and
seven great-grandchildren, Hannah Koenigs, Ryan Koenigs, Tyler Nestvedt,
Justis Nestvedt, Chase Nestvedt, Zachary Whitney and Tristan Schuster.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife Mary Ann; infant son Douglas
Crum; brother Dean Crum; and Sister Darlene Berryhill.

CITY - Lawrence G. 'Larry' Nelson, 85, of Forest City, passed away
Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City,
with his family at his side.
As per his wishes, he was cremated and his ashes taken back to Rock
Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Ill. A memorial service will be held at a
later date.

He was born July 7, 1925, at What Cheer, Iowa, a son of Perry and
Catherine (Ray) Nelson.
After school he joined the Navy, where he served aboard the USS
Wedderburn, as a gunner. He was discharged in 1946. He married Anna M.
Meyer, together they had five children. They divorced in 1960.
He wore many hats while on this earth. He was a
police officer,
fireman,
a security guard and an undercover detective. He wore a hard hat at a
rock quarry and a soft hat as a gas station attendant. He was his own
boss, as a part-owner of A-Z Rentals, Davenport.
His hobby was making things out of wood. He made lots of Uncle Sams to
put in your yard. He loved fishing and Friday night bingo at the
fairgrounds. He always watched or read Westerns.
A lifetime member of
VFW
Post No. 828, Davenport, Larry was on the first Honor Flight to
Washington, D.C.
He was a husband of four, a father of five, grandfather of 16,
great-grandpa of 17 and one on the way, and a great-great-grandpa of
four.
Survivors include, five children, Colleen Holcomb, Larry (Janet) Nelson,
Mike (Wendy) Nelson, all Mason City, Ken Nelson, Clear Lake, Kathy Swan,
New Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Perry (Vanna) Nelson, Hanlontown;
special friend, Sharon Richardson, Forest City; many cousins and nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, four brothers, one
sister, two son-in-laws; and two grandchildren.

Lisa Ann Pannhoff was born on May 8, 1966, to Lloyd and Carol (Vorwald)
Drewelow in New Hampton. She attended and graduated from New Hampton
High School in 1984.
Lisa enrolled at Capri School of Cosmetology in Mason City. She was
employed at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake as a supervisor for 20
years. Recently she was employed by Fareway Grocery as a clerk. Lisa
enjoyed singing, cooking, socializing with family and friends,
reminiscing about pastimes, and spending time with her two sons. Lisa
was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.
Lisa is survived by her parents, Lloyd and Carol Drewelow of New
Hampton; her sons, Joshua Pannhoff of Clear Lake and Jordon Pannhoff of
New Hampton; her brother, Ronald (Sheryn) Drewelow of Mason City; her
nieces and nephew, Tayler (Chace) Doyal, Madison Finn, Lauryn, Riley and
Blake Drewelow; several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents;
nephew, Dallas Drewelow; her aunt and uncle, Doris and Larry Cheney; her

U.S. Air Force WWII, Korea, Vietnam
OSAGE - Lieutenant Colonel George J. Parkhurst, USAF Ret., 91, of
Osage, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Faith Lutheran Home in
Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. Anna Blaedel
officiating. There will be a flag presentation by the Osage American
Legion Post 278.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. before the service at the funeral home
on Monday, April 4.
Following the funeral service, cremation will take place. Inurnment will
be at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell.
George was born April 6, 1919, in Mitchell, the son of George and Agnes
(Ross) Parkhurst. He attended Mitchell schools from grades K-12. He then
attended Iowa State University and worked for Douglas Aircraft Company
in Long Beach, Calif., prior to entering Aviation Cadet training in
August of 1942. George served in the European Theater during
World War II,
flying the A-26 attack bomber. Following the war, George returned to
Iowa and worked in the Carpenter bank prior to being activated in the
Air Force Reserve for combat service in Korea. He remained on active
duty with the Air Force until his retirement in 1972, including a tour
in Vietnam in which he completed 100 missions over North Vietnam. His
combat decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air
Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters.
George is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bernadine Parkhurst of
Osage; two sons, Lt. Col. Allen R. Parkhurst, USMCR Ret. of St. Ansgar,
and Col. Philip S. Parkhurst, USMC Ret. and his wife, Marilou, of
Carlsbad, Calif.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two
step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

CITY - Alfred J. Perrott, 72 of 809 N. Jackson Ave., Mason City died
Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

held Saturday, April 2, at the Senior Citizens Center, 326 Fourth Street
NE, Mason City. The gathering will be from 1-4 p.m. and the prayer

Alfred Joseph was born on Aug. 11, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pa. The son of
Alfred and Mary (Altenbaugh) Perrott Sr. He attended school in
Pittsburgh where he became a true Steelers fan. On Jan. 29, 1957 he was
united in marriage to Marlene Borland in Detroit, Mich. In his early
years he did carpentry and plumbing work and drove truck for Lamagna
trucking. In 1983 he and Marlene moved to Iowa. Always being a hard
worker he managed the Shop-N-Save and later worked maintenance at the
Brick and Tile Building. His last employment for eight years was night
stocking with Wal-Mart. He thoroughly enjoyed doing yard work, planting
flowers and feeding the birds. They also spent time playing bingo and
visiting various casinos. In the fall and winter he spent time watching
his Steelers play football. He and Marlene loved to square dance. He was
devoted to his wife and spent time visiting with family and going to
reunions. He absolutely wanted his kids to have the best education by
sending his children to catholic schools.
Surviving Alfred is his wife of 54 years Marlene, four children Jean and
her husband John Brietzke, Nora Springs; Michael and his wife Wendy
Perrott, Mason City; John Perrott and fiancé Dawn Patro, Sheffield; and
Sandy Perrott, Mason City; 11 grandchildren, Kristin, Sonia, Angela,
Shane, Jen, Michael, Cody, Brandon, Jeremy, Samantha, Jesse, and three
great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jaylyn, and Jess and one sister Linda and
her husband Barry Schnelbach.
His parents, grandmother, aunts and uncles preceded him in death.

Osie Adrian
BAUDETTE, Minn. - Osie Adrian, 91, of Baudette, Minn., passed away on
Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Lakewood Health Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at
Wabanica Lutheran Church.
A public visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 4, at
Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Baudette, and also one hour prior to the
funeral at church.
Osie Mae Adrian was born on May 18, 1919, in Newburgh Township, near
Carpenter, to Lisetta (Klienwort) and Ernest Hollatz. She graduated from
Carpenter High School In 1936.
Osie married Virgil Adrian in 1940. They lived in Iowa until 1952 when
they moved their family to Baudette. They brought carpenters from Iowa
to help them build seven cabins on the Rainy River. This was the start
of Adrian's Resort in Baudette, Minn., which is still owned by the
family today. The resort now can house many families in their 21 cabins,
lodge, and campground. Adrian's resort was the first in Baudette to
offer ice fishing packages.
Osie loved nature, the outdoors, and ice fishing. She trapped skunks in
the early years, and had a love for animals. She played cards every day
and looked for people to play cards with her. She was very intelligent
and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. She always had the coffee- pot on
for friends and guests. Nobody was a stranger to Osie.
Osie is survived by her children, Faye (Dan) Coughlin of San Antonio,
Texas, Judy (David) Duitscher of Anchorage, Alaska, Marlene Adrian of
Baudette, Darlene (Jim) Ney of Baudette, and Sharon Opp of San Jose,
Calif.; grandchildren, Lisa, Lori, Kelly, Denise, Derrick, Debra, Jimmy,
Susan, Brian, Cory, Kristie, and Eric; also 14 great-grandchildren, and
several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, her parents, Lisetta
and Ernest Hollatz, daughter Kaye Ann Adrian, son-in-law Will Opp,
sister Bernice Ehlke, and brother Ernest Hollatz Jr.

Louis Jay Arnold was born on Nov. 30, 1928, to Jay and Beulah (Blanshan)
Arnold in Des Moines. He attended several schools in the state of Iowa,
graduating from Forest City High School at the age of 16.
He married Joyce Hobbs on Sept. 3, 1950. Louis farmed his entire life,
mainly north of Joice. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting fox and
coyotes. After retiring from farming, Louis and Joyce moved off the farm
and into Lake Mills on Sept. 28, 2002.
During his retirement, Louis could be found at Don's Motor Mart having
coffee, driving around looking at wildlife, or at the town library. He
was an avid reader, and has practically read all the books in the Lake
Mills library. Louis also enjoyed keeping an eye on the local bald
eagles and watching the wildlife right in his backyard.
Louis is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, of 60 years; his children,
Mark (Cathy) Arnold of Lake Mills, Beth (Rodney) Stene of Lake Mills,
and Jay (Jan) Arnold of Cokato, Minn.; several grandchildren, Renae
Stene and fiancé Phillip Hager of Buffalo Center, Adam (Rachel) Stene of
Spirit Lake, Derek (Rua) Arnold of Mason City, Josh Arnold of Lake
Mills, Krista Arnold and fiancé Travis Hyatt of Spencer, Michael
(Brandi) Buschman of Kiester, Minn., and Erica Maas of Thompson; and
great-grandchildren, Trinity Buschman, Logan Brown, Hannah Maas,
Aubrianna Hyatt, Halo Buschman, and soon-to-be, Baby Stene. He is also
survived by a sister, Shirley (William) Everding of Titonka; two
sisters-in-law, Teda Wysong of Patton, Pa., and Cynthia (Norman)
Pechacek of Colorado Springs, Colo.; along with several nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Randy Arnold, and
brother-in-law James Wysong.
Louis will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Royal Cooper Whitney was born Sept. 30, 1932, the son of Earl M. and
Edith V. (Cooper) Whitney. He graduated from Mason City High School.
Royal was united in marriage to Barbara Hartley on Jan. 13, 1952, in
Albert Lea, Minn. They were members of the First Christian Church in
Mason City.
Royal served in the U.S. Army from November 1952 to November 1954,
during the
Korean War.
He worked for the Lehigh Portland Cement Company in Mason City as a
Heavy Equipment Operator for 41 and a half years before retiring in
1992. Royal enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, using his metal
detector, and playing with his dog Sport- his constant companion.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Mary B. Stearns and
husband Rob of Owatonna, Minn., and David C. Whitney and wife Jean of
Mason City; daughter-in-law, Wendy Whitney of Rockland, Wis.,
grandchildren, Jessica Wiebrand and husband John McMahon of Cedar
Rapids, Lora Jo Stearns and husband John Gump of Minneapolis, Minn., and
Milissa Salmon of Sacramento, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Eathan,
Holland, Mila, and Afton McMahon, and Leland and Lucas Salmon; his
siblings, Cathern Lundquist of Phoenix, Ariz., Wanda Luther of
Riverside, Calif., Fayne Whitney and wife Betty of Galt, Calif., Raymond
Whitney of Phoenix, Ariz., Karolyn Jones of Iowa Falls, Nancy Panthen

Robert H. Franke
CHARLES CITY - Robert H. Franke, 89, of Charles City, died Friday,
April 1, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.
Memorial services for Robert Franke will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6,
at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Dave Byrd, chaplain
with Iowa Hospice, will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Robert Herman Franke was born March 18, 1922, in Floyd County, the son
of Ludwig and Jesse (Meek) Franke. He received his education from rural
Floyd County schools.
On Nov. 8, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Inman. Robert
farmed for 13 years and was employed at Oliver/White Farm Equipment
Company for 26 years. He also was a volunteer fireman for ten years.
Robert was a member of the Royal Neighbors Fraternal Organization and
past member of the Moose Lodge. For 26 years he was a softball pitcher
in northeast Iowa and southern Minnesota. Robert was a perfectionist and
that showed itself in his beautiful lawn, vegetable garden, orchard and
woodworking projects.
Living family members include his wife Marjorie Franke of Charles City;

LAKE - Anna Grace Bacon, 92, of 309 26th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died
Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the Ventura
United Methodist Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Rhoda Preston
officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service. Graveside services will
be 10:30a.m.Thursday at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday (today) from 5-7 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and then one hour before the service on
Wednesday at the church. Family suggests memorials to Ventura United
Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Anna was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Kingsport, Tenn., the daughter of Herman
and Hobart (Hite) Blakley. In 1929 the family moved to a farm east of
Titonka. She went to grade school in Titonka and graduated from Titonka
High School in 1937. After graduation she worked in Bonackers food store
for two years.
In 1939, she married Vern Bacon at the family home. They farmed with
Vern's dad for two years. In 1942, they moved to a farm north of Ventura
and started farming for them- selves. They lived the rest of their lives
in the Clear Lake and Ventura vicinity.
Anna belonged to Ventura United Methodist Church,Naomi Church Circle and
North Side Jolly Club.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Diane Lovick, of Forest City;
daughter-in-law Bonnie Bacon, of Ventura; six grandchildren, Steve
(Karla) Bacon, Doug (Angie)Bacon, Kristi (Jay) Waddingham, Darren
(Janet) Lovick, Shaun (Julie) Lovick and Kelli (Mason) Harms; sixteen
great-grandchildren: Tanner and Chase Bacon, Mitchel Storby, Caleb and
Logan Bacon, Zachary, Tyler, and Matthew Waddingham, Benjamin, Audrey,
and Joshua Lovick, Nicholas, Maxwell and Kate Lovick, Laura and Jack
Harms; sister Donna Blakley, of Woden; sister-in-law Shirley Neel, of
Clear Lake; and brother-in-law Merle Isebrand, of Fort Meyers, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Larry in 1993; husband

April 2, 2011, at her home.

Mona was born May 11, 1929, at Davenport, a daughter of Lynn and Myrtle
(Martens) DeReu. She graduated from Iowa City High School, Iowa City, in
1947.
Mona married Charles W. Miller on Dec. 17, 1950, at the United Methodist
Church in Iowa City. They were the parents of Bradley, Barbara, and
Bryan. Charles died in May 1963.
Mona later married Carl E. Cooper on June 3, 1966, at Indianola
Methodist Church, Indianola. They farmed at Clear Lake and Nora Springs.
They were the parents of Carla and David. Carl died in March 1988.
Mona was a member of First United Methodist Church, Nora Springs. She
was a foster grandparent, a past member of Order of the Eastern Star,
Daughter of the Nile, Nora Springs Community Club and the Crescent Club.
She was an active volunteer at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason
City.
She enjoyed her family, friends and hand work.
Survivors include Bradley (Jennifer) Miller of Indianola, Barbara (Tim)
Quam of Nora Springs, Bryan Miller and his good friend, Mary Etta
Sturges of Nora Springs, Carla (Ken) Wilde of Rochester, Minn., and
David (Natasha) Cooper of Indianola; nine grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and seven
step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a sister,
Shirley McNutt; and a brother-in-law, Jim McNutt.

- Edward R. Koch, 92, of Hampton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by
his family, on April 2, 2011, at the Springfield Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the
United Methodist Church in Hampton.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (today) from 4-7 p.m. at the Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home in Hampton. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery.
The Rev. Dr. Edward R. Peterson will officiate the service. Military
services will be provided by the Hampton Veterans Memorial Association.
Edward was born on Oct. 29, 1918, to Alfred and Nikolene Koch. He was
one of nine siblings.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Bonita;
his parents; his brothers Albert, Harry, Bill, and Walter; his sisters
Elizabeth, Helen, Marlene, Verna and Ruth.
After Bonnie's death, Edward lived in New Ulm, Minn., for several years
but never let us forget that he was still an Iowa farmer at heart.
Edward's passion for farming was only exceeded by his love of baseball.
A lifetime Yankees fan, he never tired of telling his baseball
experiences, which included meeting Babe Ruth at a try out camp in the
1930s.
Edward is survived by his son Gary and wife Joleen of New Ulm, Minn.,
his son Jeff and his companion Cindy Hohenfield, of Nora Springs, his
daughter Patricia and her husband Brian Foster, of New Ulm, Minn.;
grandchildren Allison Jones, Laura Koch, Kevin and wife Julie Koch,
Dustin Koch, Isabella Foster and Earl Foster; his sister Delores Niess;
his sister-in-law Geraldine Koch and his brother-in-law Hank Vierkant.
Edward was a veteran of
World War II
- serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a proud member of the
American Foreign Legion and
Veterans of Foreign Wars.

- Marian L. (Lee) Kuper, age 91, of Belmond, passed away Thursday, March
31, 2011, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marian L. Kuper will be held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in
Belmond. Father Nils Hernandez will officiate. Burial will take place in
the St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond.
Visitation will be from 5- 7 p.m. today, Monday, April 4, at the Dugger
Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond. There will be no
viewing at the church on Tuesday. A parish rosary will be held at 7 p.m.
and a Scriptural wake service will immediately follow this evening at
Dugger Funeral Home.
Marian Lucille, the daughter of Ira J. and Mary Bray Studebaker, was
born Feb. 23, 1920, on a farm south of Belmond. She grew up in Belmond
where she attended school, graduating from Belmond High School in 1938.
She taught in country schools for seven and a half years. Marian worked
at Decker and Sons in Mason City and General Mills in Belmond. Marian
was a devoted nurse's aide at the Belmond Community Hospital for 30
years before retiring.
Marian was united in marriage to Paul D. "Tex" Lee in October of 1942.
He died in1966. Marian was later married to Harold E. Kuper in 1983.
Harold passed away in 1992.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she always
made family time special. Her door was always open and she always had
numerous baked goods to offer anyone who stopped by. She is remembered
for her love of family and friends, coffee time, and bingo.
Marian served many years as a polling site official in Belmond. Marian
was also a devoted life-long member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic
Church in Belmond. She was active in the Catholic Daughters and very
active in preparing meals for funerals and various other activities at
the church. She resided at Belle Haven Assisted Living for the last year
and a half, enjoying friends and the staff.
Marian is survived by her children, Dixie (Larry) Lamoreux of Mason
City, Diane Reasoner of Decatur, Ill., Mary Lee of Cedar Rapids, Jim
(Sue) Lee of Prior Lake, Minn., Ginger (Mark) Stille of Goodell; a
daughter-in-law, Pat Lee of Mason City; thirteen grandchildren; many
great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Studebaker of Belmond, and
numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Paul Lee and Harold
Kuper; two sons, Robert Lee and Richard Lee; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie
Lee; three sisters and two brothers.

2, 2011, in Roswell, N.M., as a result of test flight accident.

Reece was born in Mason City, on April 17, 1962, the son of Robert and

Engineering 1986. Following graduation he moved to Long Beach, Calif.,
worked for McDonald Douglas, where he met and married his wife Jeanne
Elser on Nov. 5, 1994. Reece was talented engineer and went on to work
for Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga., Bombardier in Wichita, Kan.,
Lockheed in Fort Worth, Texas, and for the past two years for Gulfstream
in Savannah, Ga. He was very proud of the G650 airplane and was doing
what he loved at the time of his death.
Reece was active in his church. He enjoyed working in his yard, making
beer and snow skiing, but above all else, he loved spending time with
his family and attending his children's activities.
Reece was a wonderful husband and father and his legacy lives on through
the lives of his children. Reece will be greatly missed by his wife,
Jeanne and their three children Bridget, 12, Kathryn, 10, and Henry, 6,
and his son Christopher, 27, who lives in North Carolina; parents Bob
and Elaine Ollenburg, mother-in-law Joan Elser, brothers Scott (Karen)
and Dan (Kristen) and sisters Sherry Becker(Tim) and Kim Larson (Bill),
brother-in-law Karl Elser (Angela), sisters-in-law Clare Elser, Kathryn
Hammit(Steve), Martha Elser (Julie Gissel), nephews Ben Becker, Rex
Ollenburg, Grant Larson(Amber), Zach Becker, Alois Scott, Alec Scott and
Nicholas Hammitt, nieces Emily Zanios (Thomas), Renee (Matt) Washburn,
Sophia Ollenburg, Ava Ollenburg and Ella Ollenburg, great nephews, Noah

Mary was fortunate to have given birth to two children from her first
marriage to James Papouchis: Teresa King and Anthony Papouchis, both of
Mason City.
She worked for Woodharbor Doors and Cabinetry for 13 years. She enjoyed
knitting, sewing, various crafts, gardening, as well as spending time
with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children, Teresa (Michael) King, Anthony (Jen)
Papouchis; six grandchildren; her mother, Alfrieda (Pagel) Crooks; her
five loving sisters and two brothers; former spouse and constant
companion, Gene Casterton.

On Feb. 10, 1947, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Francis Gerald
Pospichal at St. Bernard's Church in Alta Vista.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Wilkinson of Cedar Rapids,
Laurie Jensen of Ridgeway, Mary (Linus) Luzum of Calmar, and Deb (Mike)
Mayer of Lakeville, Minn.; two sons, Leo (Susan) of Delano, Minn., and

1935, Janet married Wilbur Deets in Rockwell. In 1957, they moved to
Mason City. In addition to being a homemaker, Janet worked at the Good
Shepherd Health Center for nine and a half years and Mode O Day for two
and a half years. She was a friend of the First Christian Church in Nora
Springs. She was a member of RSVP for 24 years, the Moose Lodge and a
lifetime member of the
VFW
Auxiliary. For the last 10 years, she enjoyed making Christmas tree
ornaments for the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her
family, dancing, and volunteering.
Janet is survived by her children: Merlin Deets and wife Dixie of Mason
City, Marlin Deets and wife Susan of Redfield, Margilee Beattie and
husband Don of Nora Springs, Maurice Deets and wife Denice of Colton,
Ore., Mary Ann Cullen and husband Roger of Warsaw, Mo.; her siblings:
Mervyle Carey, Lorna Suby, and Lois Knutson, all of Mason City; 22
grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 7, from 4-7 p.m., at the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Pastor Harry Imlay will
officiate the service. Burial will take place in the Lindenwood Cemetery
in rural Geneva.
Ben was born to Hilke Janssen During and Barteld (Ben) During Sr. in
Alexander. They moved to Geneva in 1940 and Ben graduated from Geneva
Consolidated High School in 1948. On Dec. 20, 1953, Ben married Shirley
Cummings from Hartford. They have lived in Geneva all of their lives.
Ben was a retired farmer and a father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters
and brothers in law.
Surviving family members are his wife, Shirley, daughter Debra (During)
Brown, sons Jeffry (Beverly) During and Jon (Judy) During, grandchildren
Jacqueline, Sarah, Lorraine, Jeffry and Michael and great grandchildren
Steven, Brian, Hailey, Kylee, Natalie and Hunter, brother in law Dan
(Sharon) Cummings, sister in law Elsie Cummings and sister in law
Jacqueline (Nancy) Gowan and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Pat Huffman
CHARLES CITY - Mary Pat Huffman, 71, of Charles City, died on Monday,
April 4, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral Mass for will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. The Rev. Carl Ries will
celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Saint
Patrick's Catholic Cemetery at Dougherty.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8
p.m. Friday, April 8, where there will be a Scriptural Prayer Service at
4:30 p.m. and the Rosary prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue
Saturday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Mabel Peterson
BRITT
- Mabel Peterson, 91, of Britt died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Westview
Care Center in Britt.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m.
at the Kanawha Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charlotte White and the
Rev. Geoffrey White officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at
Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Ewing
Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one
hour prior to services at the church.
Mabel Peterson was born April 18, 1919, to Abel and Mary (Fosen) Omvig
on the family farm near Kanawha. She attended country school near
Kanawha.
Mabel was united in marriage to Linsworth Peterson, and to this union
two children were born. The couple farmed in the Denhart, Corwith and
Britt areas.
Mabel was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.
Mabel enjoyed cross-stitching and baking, especially cinnamon rolls and
kringla for her grandchildren.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Janice (Don) LeMay of Vista, Calif.;
her son, James (Nancy) Peterson of Britt; grandchildren, Lisa (Steve)
Brown of Carlsbad, Calif., Andrea (Bruce) Schierwagen of Wellington,
Colo., Kristen LeMay of Vista, Calif., Amy Peterson of Minneapolis,
Minn. and Jeff Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn.; two great-grandchildren,
Madeline and David Brown.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Linsworth in
1991, sisters Alice Asche, Synneva Abbas, Oviedia Michelson, Celia
Roskamp, brothers Joe Omvig, Oren Omvig, John Omvig, and Arthur Omvig.

Jerine G. Thomas
SHEFFIELD
- Jerine G. Thomas, 95, of Sheffield, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at the
Sheffield Care Center.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Retz Funeral
Home, Sheffield, with the Rev. G. Kim Wills of Zion St. John Lutheran
Church, Sheffield. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Jerine G. Thomas was born Jan. 28, 1916, east of Sheffield, a daughter
of Henry and Louise (Arndt) Kammeier. She attended the Lutheran Church
and graduated from Sheffield High School. On July 23, 1938, Jerine was
united in marriage with Marvin "Tommy" Thomas in Charles City.
While Tommy served in World War II, Jerine kept his milk route operating
and worked at various jobs after his return. When Tommy retired he and
Jerine spent a few years wintering in Florida they then wintered 25
years in Texas. Marvin Thomas died on Dec. 18, 2004. Jerine moved into
the Sheffield Care Center a few months later and has lived there since.
Jerine is survived by a niece: Clara Belle (Burrell) Raymond, Orchard.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and two
brothers.
