FOREST CITY - Judy Becker, 70, of Forest City died Tuesday (May 25, 2010) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City.

MASON CITY - Gordon "Gordy" Earl Marsh, 84, of 1723 S. Hoover Ave., died Monday (May 24, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Paul Nelson and the Rev. Jeni Bohls officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association at the church.

Evelyn S. Quisling
ROGERS, Ark. - Evelyn S. Quisling, 98, of Rogers, Ark., and formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (May 23, 2010) in Rogers following a short illness.

According to Evelyn's wishes she was cremated and will be interred in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Evelyn was born March 11, 1912, at Joice, the daughter of Emil and Emma Steen. Her mother died when she was 5 years old and she was raised by her grandparents and took their name of Tweed.

She was married to Obert Quisling in 1931 and they had one daughter, Elayne.

Evelyn lived most of her adult life in Mason City, working for many years at S.S. Kresge and later in the cafeteria at Monroe Junior High School.

In 1992 she moved to Rogers, Ark., where she enjoyed many good times with her daughter and granddaughter.

Evelyn loved playing cards and collecting dolls. In her earlier years she enjoyed crocheting and gardening.

Evelyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Rick Lee, Mason City, Greg Lee, Cannon Falls, Minn., and Vickie (Steve) Scholl, Rogers, Ark.; four great- grandchildren, Tara Lee, Michael Lee, Jenna Lee and Lauren Lee Loubar; and five great-great-grandchildren, Taevian Lee, Mykeylah Gram, Mercedes Gram, Malayshia Gram and Mariah Gram.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Obert Quisling; brother, Morris Prestholt; daughter, Elayne (Lee) Snyder; and a granddaughter, Cindy Lee.

Judy Becker

FOREST CITY - Judy Becker, 70, of Forest City died Tuesday (May 25, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 28, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.

Judy Ann Becker was born on Dec. 23, 1939, in Britt, the daughter of Robert and Mavis (Rapp) Hiscocks. She attended school in Britt and graduated from Britt High School in 1957. She continued her education at the Omaha School of Business in Omaha, Neb.

She was united in marriage to Merwyn Dahle of Britt in 1959. The couple had three children: Kevin, Kim and Tony. Judy married Myron Becker in 1976 and the couple had a son, Andrew.

Judy worked for K&C Electric of Leland as a secretary and ran a home-based day care for children for a time. She later owned and operated the Village Lounge and most recently Uptown Liquor, from which she retired in 2008.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Forest City and active in Circle. She enjoyed being a Cub Scout den mother when the boys were younger and was honored as an Iowa Special Olympics grand marshall. She loved spending time with family and friends at Lake Jefferson, playing cards and baking with the grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her children and their families: Kevin (Beth) Dahle of Northfield, Minn., and their children Kalista, Greenlee and Griffith; Kim (Matt) Jennings of Hanlontown and their children Tyler, Courtney and Sarah; and Tony (Colleen) Dahle of Mason City and their children Branden and Danielle. Also surviving are stepchildren, Sharlyn (Larry) Pardubsky of Urbandale, Pam (Harley) Urbatsch of Forest City, Gary (Teresa) Becker of Marshall, Minn., Rick Becker of Shakopee, Minn., and Karla Woodward of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Myron; her son, Andy; brothers, Robert, Monte, William and Alan; sisters, Nancy and Jane and stepson, Michael "Butch" Becker.

Evaline Brown
ROCKWELL - Evaline E. "Evie" Brown, 91, of Rockwell died Tuesday (May 25, 2010) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell with the Rev. Joel Dahlen presiding. Interment will be at Rockwell Cemetery.

Evaline Estella Brown was born April 27, 1919, at Sheffield, a twin daughter of Harry Benjamin and Helen (Rattz) Rurup. She was baptized May 25, 1919, by the Lutheran pastor at Sheffield. Evaline was confirmed in the Christian faith on July 7, 1940, at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the Rev. H.J. Landick. She attended grade school in the Rockwell and Sheffield areas and graduated from Sheffield High School on June 3, 1937.

Evaline was united in marriage with Delbert Edward Brown Jan. 27, 1938. To this union was born one son, Dallas. Evaline and Delbert farmed west of Rockwell until 1976. After the death of Delbert, Evaline then moved into Rockwell.
Evaline was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Rebecca Circle, Altar Guild and ladies quilting. She also belonged to Grandmother's Club and Kensington Club.

Evaline worked as a cook at Kelli's Kitchen in Rockwell from 1977 to 1991.
She is survived by her son, Dallas (Lois) Brown, of Rockwell; grandson, Don (Carrie) Brown, of Rockwell and their children: Cody Brown, serving in the Navy in Japan, and Wyatt of Rockwell; grandson, Mike (Jennifer) Brown of Rockwell and their children, Treven, Austin Ethan and Kiden, all of Rockwell; sisters, Betty (Henry) Sambdman, of Davenport and Barb Sweeny, of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law: Gladys Rurup, of Rockwell.

Evaline is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Delbert, in 1976. She also is preceded in death by sisters: Edith, Erma, Ida, Vera, Kathryn, Thelma, Geraldine and twin sister, Esteline; brothers, Herman (Hans) and Harry (Bud).

Vernon O.S. Heimdal

LAKE MILLS - Vernon O.S. Heimdal, 77, of Lake Mills died Sunday (May 23, 2010) at the IOOF Home in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, with Pastor Kevin Olson officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Mason City VFW.

Visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Vernon Oriss Schwenly Heimdal was born on Jan. 10, 1933, on a farm in rural Joice, to Orin and Gertrude Marie (Ness) Heimdal. He was baptized at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church. He attended Larson school and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1950.

Vernon worked for Abraham's Store in Joice until being drafted into the Army in 1952. He served in the medical corps in Korea. He was released from active duty in November 1954, and served in the reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1961.

Vernon attended Mankato Vocational School for auto body repair. He worked for S & R Chevrolet and Birum Olson Buick in Mason City. In 1963, he moved to San Diego, Calif., where he also worked in auto body.

From 1965 until 1991, Vernon was a factory representative for Buske Industries, traveling extensively, primarily in Illinois, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania.

In 1983, he bought his parents' home in Lake Mills and lived there until entering the IOOF Home in Mason City on April 15, 2010.

He was dedicated and proud of his lifetime membership with the Mason City VFW Post No. 733, the Emmons American Legion, the Eagles Club in Mason City and the Elks in Albert Lea.

Survivors include his two brothers, Dean (Gloria) Heimdal of Clear Lake and Lowell (Evelyn) Heimdal of Joice; a sister-in-law, Marge Heimdal, of Unionville, Mo.; 11 nieces and nephews; and many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his mother, Marie in 1980; father, Orin, in 1983; and his brother, Royden, in April 2008.

Gordon Earl "Gordie" Marsh
MASON CITY - Gordon Earl Marsh, 84, passed peacefully into the arms of his loving father on Monday (May 24, 2010) surrounded by his loving family. In the past several years, Gordie has stood strong in handling the many health battles that were given to him. With each and every one, he showed amazing strength and grace. A true hero to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of his life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Paul Nelson and the Rev. Jeni Bohls officiating. Gordie's family has requested casual dress attire. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be held for Gordie from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

Gordon Earl Marsh was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Clear Lake, the son of Harold S. and Beatrice (Crumb) Marsh. He attended Mason City Schools and later enlisted into the Navy and was honorably discharged. On Oct. 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to Delores Adams in Northwood. To this union, six daughters were born. Gordie retired from Northwestern States Portland Cement Co. after 34 years of service.

Gordie enjoyed bowling and woodworking and was a master at anything anyone asked him to do. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, the St. James Saints, a lifetime member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and participated on the Moose Bowling League.

On Oct. 17, 2009, he had the honor and privilege to participate in the Winnebago Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Gordie is survived by his loving wife, Delores Marsh, of Mason City; children, Sandra Fitzlaff (Steve) of Titonka, Cheryl (Nick) West of Mason City, Susan (Randy) Solsaa of Mason City, Connie (Steve) Jennings of Mason City, Kimberly Marsh of Mason City and Patti (Mike) Heinold of Charleston, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Solberg, of Mason City; and brother, Roger Marsh, of Mason City; along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Gordie is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harold Marsh Sr.; and sisters, Evelyn Beery and Patricia McCormick.

Tena F. Sandry
BELMOND - Tena F. Sandry, 95, most recently a resident of the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond, formerly a longtime resident of rural Goodell, died Monday (May 24, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Public visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E., Belmond.

A private funeral service will then take place on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Paddy Druhl, of the Goodell United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Tena's name may wish to consider Hospice of Wright County, or to their own choice.

Tena Florence Gruis, the daughter of Klaas and Maggie (Harms) Gruis, was born May 21, 1915, on her parents' farm in rural Meservey. Tena attended rural schools in the Meservey area before taking on responsibilities of helping out with the many tasks of the family farming operations.

Tena was united in marriage to William B. Sandry on May 31, 1932. The couple's union was blessed with three sons, Donald, Calvin and Marvin, and one daughter, Sharon.

Following their marriage the couple farmed and raised their children in the rural Goodell area. In addition to being a full time homemaker, wife, and mother, Tena had worked for a time at Acco Seeds sorting corn and had done some detasseling.

Her life on the farm was busy as she helped out with the Dairy operations, raising the hogs, chickens, and crops, along with numerous other duties as a partner in the farming vocation.

Tena was an excellent cook and baker. Her children remember fondly her wonderful and delicious homemade rhubarb and sour cream and raisin pies, along with her savory carrot cake and kringla.

Tena enjoyed get-togethers with her many lady friends, an occasional outing with her husband and the kids to one of the area county fairs, was an avid bingo player, enjoyed reading nearly anything she could get her hands on and looked forward to the challenges of a good crossword puzzle.

After becoming a resident of the Rehabilitation Center, she enjoyed various activities there including playing Jokereno and bingo, along with time spent visiting with family and friends.

Tena's memory will live on the lives of her surviving children and their families, including her sons, Donald Sandry, of Goodell, Calvin (Lorene) Sandry, and their children, William (Deb) Sandry, of Blue Grass, Iowa Dale (Karen) Sandry, of Orange City, Fla., and Debbie (Rick) Rette, of Lakeville, Minn.; and Marvin Sandry, of Britt, and his son, Michael Sandry, of Thornton; her daughter, Sharon Sandry, of Belmond; also Tena's great-grandchildren, Aaron, Becca, Amy, Lee, Chris, Eric, Rachael, Jacob, and Angelica; and her great-great-grandchildren, Jordan and Carly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Margaret, Minnie, Karry, and Anna; and her brothers, Ernest, Jake, and Harm.

Galen William Wooge
CRYSTAL LAKE - Galen Wooge, 83, of Crystal Lake died Tuesday (May 25, 2010) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 28, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake.

Galen William Wooge was born in Forest City on Nov. 28, 1926, the firstborn of six children to William and Grace (Hefte) Wooge. He attended Linden No. 5 Country School and graduated from Forest City High School in 1945, honored as a member of the all-state football team. Galen farmed with his father in Linden Township and married Helen Steffensen on Aug. 1, 1950; they were blessed with five children. They farmed northwest of Forest City from 1957-1967 when they purchased and moved to the Wooge home farm. Galen maintained a registered Holstein dairy herd, Hereford beef cattle and Hampshire hogs, promoting his interests with membership and leadership positions on various agricultural boards.

Galen served his community as mayor of Crystal Lake from 1998-2002. He was active in the Forest City and Crystal Lake United Methodist churches by teaching Sunday school, serving on various church boards, and participating in mission trips with NOMADS for over six years. Fishing in Canada was one of Galen's joys, and he like to travel, having visited all 50 states, Australia, Jamaica and Israel.

Galen is survived by Helen, his wife of 59 years; his children: Gaylord and wife, Jody, of Forest City; Harriet and husband, Doug Adams, of Otho; Lynn and wife, Cindy, of Forest City; Penny and husband, Harley Beenken, of Forest City; and Scott and wife, Cynthia, of St. Louis, Mo.; 11 grandchildren: Jason Adams, Colleen (Tim) Koester, Lt. Cdr. Dr. Gerald W. Cady
OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Gerald W. Cady, M.D., passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at his home in Oceanside, Calif., surrounded by his family.

Dr. Cady was born on June 8, 1927, to Dr. Gerald and Julia (Bryant) Cady of Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1945 and enlisted in the Navy.
He attended the University of Idaho on an ROTC scholarship and after a year, transferred to Iowa State University.

In 1948, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Doty of Mason City. They were married 57 years until her death in 2006. Following their marriage, they moved to St. Louis, Mo., where he attended Washington University Medical School. He rejoined the Navy to receive training in General Practice at the Naval Hospital, San Diego, and Orthopedic Surgery at the Naval Hospital, Oakland.

He returned to the Naval Hospital, San Diego, in 1964 and became Chairman of the Orthopedic Department until his retirement in 1975.

During this time, he proudly served on the hospital ship, USS Sanctuary in Vietnam as Chief of the Orthopedic Department. Following his retirement, he joined a private practice, Smith Hanna, and then returned to the Naval Hospital, San Diego, as a civilian physician as Director of the Major Joint Service.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne (Doty), and his brother, Pat (Caroline).

He is survived by his wife Margaret (Farris), three sons; Glenn, Orinda, Calif.; Gary (Stacy), San Diego, Calif.; Jim (Nancy), Oceanside, Calif.; his sister, Jean (Murray) Lawson of Mason City; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Thursday, May 27, at the First United Methodist in Mission Valley, Calif., with a reception at the Admiral Kidd Club in Point Loma, San Diego, Calif.

CHARLES CITY - James Lee Ebel, 41, of Toledo, Iowa, died Monday (May 24, 2010) at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

He shared the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

Richard H. Swanson
FERTILE - Richard H. Swanson, 57, of Fertile, Iowa, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, ended his earthly life May 26, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

His family will greet and meet friends today, Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Gardens, located at the corner of Second Ave. N. and N. Eighth St., Clear Lake.

Galilean Lutheran Church of Clear Lake, will provide a light lunch at the gardens. A private family gathering of thanksgiving for Rich's life will follow.

Rich was born Aug. 21, 1952, in Princeton, Ill., son of Harry and Alverda (Teske) Swanson. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1970. Rich received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College in Decorah.
 
While in college he met Jacqueline Hodgkins and the two married Aug. 25, 1973. Together they are proud parents and grandparents of two daughters and their families, Cathy (33) and Abby, their children Destiny and Solomon, from Chicago, Ill.; and Sarah (30) and Bill Grant, their children, Lily, Danny and Kate, from Mason City.

After graduating in 1974 he began working for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in Marion. Rich and his family moved to Clear Lake in 1996, then to Fertile in 1998 where Rich worked for DEX media out of Mason City.

Rich was a constant sports enthusiast, especially for the 'Da Bears and 'Da Bulls and the Iowa Hawkeyes. His sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was an excellent historian, especially with U.S. history and current events and often surprised others with his depth of facts and analysis.

Rich was a man of family principles: conviction to God, strong work ethic, patience and wise advice. He had a wonderful gift and ministry of helping others with a listening ear, a quiet, dependable presence and availability.

He loved his family and in death will be deeply missed by his wife of 36 years, Jackie; his children and grandchildren; brother Gail Swanson, and his wife Soukenthea, of Forest Park, Ill.; extended family, friends and business associates. Rich was preceded in death by his mom and dad.

Rich's family is deeply grateful to the Emergency Medical Technicians, the compassionate and capable medical staff of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, and the community of prayers and support that have surrounded the family in this difficult time.

The presence of Christ's saving grace embraced Rich and his family through the pastoral care of Pastor Jeff Ungs (Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake) and Pastor Emily Horrell (Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Mason City).

The family takes comfort in knowing up to 100 people will benefit from the gift of his mortal body through organ donations.

Leo R. Wood
MASON CITY - Leo R. Wood, 95, died Wednesday (May 26, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit following a short illness.

Upon his wishes he was cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Leo R. Wood Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Leo was born May 7, 1915, in Mason City, the son of Rollie and Tomina Wood. Leo was raised in Corwith, Iowa, area by his grandparents. He attended schools in the Corwith, Kanawha and Britt area.

Leo enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy and was on a ship during the Pearl Harbor Attack.

Leo worked many years at the Northwestern Portland Cement Plant until his retirement in 1980. He owned his own carpet cleaning business along with carpet installation. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the V.F.W.

Leo is survived by his wife, Iola Wood; children, Ron (Pam) Wood, Leslie (Larry) Knudson, Deborah (Jack) Digman, Diane (Mike) Ross, and Rhonda Genzler; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Wood; brother, Cliff Wood; and two grandsons.

Leo's Life Motto was "Just Gotta Have Fun."

Merna L. Hoeft
CHARLES CITY -Merna L. Hoeft, 73, of Charles City died Thursday (May 27, 2010) at her home.

Funeral services for Merna Hoeft will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City, with Pastor David Werges of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Hauser Funeral Home, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Merna Lou Obermeier Hoeft was born Sept. 14, 1936, at Charles City, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Hurst) Obermeier. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1955. On June 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert Hoeft at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Over the years Merna worked as a nurse's aide at the Floyd County Medical Center, retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Merna enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball and having her friends at the "round table" where they enjoyed coffee and conversation together.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, watching her children and grandchildren participate in various sports.

Living family members include her husband, Robert Hoeft, of Charles City; three children, Debra (Michael) Rahm of Medina, Minn., Cindy Pralle and Mike (Rhonda) Hoeft, both of Charles City; eight grandchildren, Libby (Eric) Harris, Nate (Joy) Severin, Casey (Christina) Eaves, Kristen (Sean) Stowe, Corey and Kallie Hoeft and Elizabeth and Alexander Rahm; six great-grandchildren, Abigail and Blake Harris, Alexa Severin, Alexis and Aliah Eaves and Jackson Stowe; and a twin brother, Merlin (Mary) Obermeier, of Clarksville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Hayden Stowe; a brother, Lavern Obermeier; and a sister, Leona Lore.

Delores May was born on April 6, 1932, in Osage, the daughter of Henry and Mildred "Mulby" Kuykendall. She attended school in Illinois. She worked in her early years at the concession stand at Target, then for EF Johnson manufacturing CB radios and retired from Sperry Univac Computers in Clear Lake.

While working at Target she met her future husband and was united in marriage to Dennis Peterson on June 23, 1973, at Trinity Lutheran Church. To him she always quoted "I will love you till the day I die" which is what she did. They enjoyed each others' company and while living on the acreage they had many dogs and cats and when they moved to Mason City they still treasured her two dogs and one cat.

Delores loved her flowers and gardens. She also did needlepoint and ceramics. She shared her time with her husband fishing at Clear Lake and the area rivers. Both were known as excellent dancers and people loved to watch them. They camped with their families and traveled to the Wisconsin Dells, the Black Hills, Las Vegas and California. Delores liked to watch her Westerns in the morning and before going to bed. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Delores is survived by her husband, Dennis, of 36 years; two grandsons, Russell (Vanessia) Johnson and Mike Johnson; her stepchildren, Matt Peterson of Florida, Mike Peterson of Lee's Summit, Mo., Donnie Peterson of Florida, Leslie Schumacher of Tennessee and Sherrie Bryan of Florida; son-in-law, David Johnson, of Leroy, Minn.; brothers, Alvin (Phyllis) Kuykendall of Georgetown, Ill., Carroll (Mary) Stonebraker of Hemet, Calif., Marlin Rossitter of Illinois; sister-in-law, Norma Kuykendall, of Floyd, sister-in-law Vicky Murphy; brothers-in-law, Gary Peterson of Fort Bragg, Calif., and Melvin Peterson Jr. and Clifford Peterson, both of Mason City.

Her parents, daughter Kathy Johnson; stepson, Dennis Dean Peterson; sisters, Doris Jean Kuykendall, Darlene Long, and Leona Cummings; one brother, Clive Kuykendall; stepmother, Viola Kuykendall; and mother-in-law, Alice Galvin preceded her in death.

ALLISON - Wayne O. Hewitt, 81, of Allison passed away Saturday (May 29, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Parish of the United Methodist Church in Dumont.

Pastor Larry Pauley will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Bristow. The family requests that family and friends wear casual attire to the funeral service.

Wayne was born April 17, 1929, in Bristow to Everett and Henrietta (Walterman) Hewitt. Wayne graduated from the Bristow High School in 1947. He served his country during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Wayne was united in marriage to Mary Folkerts on Dec. 23, 1951, in Bristow. He was a member of the New Hope Parish of the United Methodist Church in Dumont, Wayne also was a member of the Dumont American Legion and the Bristow AmVets. Wayne enjoyed fishing for walleye in Canada at Pine Point Resort and also enjoyed hunting pheasants.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hewitt, of Allison; son, Stan (Connie) Hewitt, of Bristow; daughter, Wanda (Randi) Thomas, of Mason City; grandchildren, Nathan Hewitt and fiancee, Laura, Brandon Thomas and girlfriend, Tara, Nickolas and Chelsi Thomas; sisters-in-law, Ruth Wunsch and Alice (Clare) Merfeld. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
