Eunice married Joseph Duea Sept. 25, 1938, in Gilbert. To this union four
children were born. Eunice, while being a housewife and mother, assisted her husband in farming and raising purebred cattle and hogs. She was a 4-H member and leader. Terry was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 9, 1942, the son of Herbert and Luella (Tysland) Barton. He attended elementary schools in Elmhurst, Ill., Waterville and Waukon before the family moved to Mason City, where he attended junior/senior high school. On Oct. 7, 1967, Terry married Sue Schmolke (Foy), and they had two daughters, Lori and Tami. Later they divorced, and Sue still lives in Mason City. He worked at MetalCraft in Mason City for a number of years until he became disabled. He also worked for an educational service cooperative and in the food service industry. Very active with Jaycees, Terry participated in various service projects and served as a regional director. He later moved to Clinton and most recently to East Moline, Ill. Terry is survived by his daughters, Lori (Robert) Godwin and Tami Willmann, both of Mason City; his grandchildren, Katilynn and Logan Hershey, Spencer Alitz, Morgan Willmann and Bane Sloss, all of Mason City. He is also survived by four siblings, Richard Barton of Ames, Jim (Edrie) Barton of Le Sueur, Minn., Linda (Howard) Dutton of Ames and Nancy Dreier of Lake Crystal, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. Paul was born Jan. 21, 1946 in Mason City to Paul "Blackie" and Mavis (Holt) Espinosa. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1964 and from Luther College, Decorah in 1968 and played basketball for Kent Finanger. In his youth he was confirmed by Rev. Lavern R. Hanson at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 12 and enjoyed camping at old Camp Roosevelt at Clear Lake and the new camp at Marble Rock. He also enjoyed camping at Riverside Bible Camp. He played cornet and alto horn in the All City Band for Stan Davis. He played first base for Elmer Starr's baseball team. He played basketball for the undefeated Mohawk basketball team rated No. 1 in the state for Herb Thompson. He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Otterness in June 1968. He played a lot of softball and managed the Clear Lake Buttertop softball team for Hans Sell. He played first base on a slow pitch softball team with his father as pitcher and they competed in the National Tournament in St. Louis, Mo. He was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame. Following his discharge from the service, he was employed in the meat industry at various locations and was plant manager of Pineridge Farms in Des Moines at the time of his death. His employees are from 10 countries and he has taken them under his wing helping them with legal matters, taxes, monetarily and with immigration issues, and they called him Papa. He was united in marriage to Mary Binder in December 1996. He is survived by his wife, Mary Espinosa, of Clive; his parents, Paul and Mavis Espinosa of Mason City; his son, Nathan (Amber) of Lino Lakes, Minn.; daughter, Jennifer (John) Whyte of Omaha, Neb.; stepdaughters, Heather (Kent) Weiber of La Pine, Ore., Ashley (Jesse) Wilson of South Dakota, Catlin Turgeon of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Alexis and Alison Whyte of Omaha, Carver, Zachary, and Andrew Espinosa of Minnesota and Hannah and Sam Weiber of Oregon; three sisters, Sherry (Gordon) Rundquist of Iowa City, Pamela (Loyd) McFarland of Fresno, Calif., and Ann Espinosa of Ames; one brother: Peter (Kari) Espinosa, of Edina, Minn. He hadn't lived in Mason City for many years, but he was always a great supporter of it and loved the people living here. He still read the Globe Gazette everyday online. He served as master of ceremonies at his 45th class reunion in 2009. He spent his life doing acts of kindness for his family, his friends and his employees. His last act of kindness was that he and Mary took care of his father for the past nine months who has had dementia for the past three years. being stationed in a mortar company at Ft. Lewis, Wash. After their marriage, LaVerne farmed for a short period before going into the trucking business. LaVerne drove for Ace Line Trucking in Fort Dodge for most of his life and also drove for other trucking companies before his retirement. LaVerne was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City and the River City Street Rod car club. Ronald was born on Dec. 19, 1936, in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Ester Potter. Ronald worked 40 years as an electrician. He worked for Dewey Electric in Ventura, Determan Electric in Mason City and Dave's Electric in Belmond. Ronald and his wife, Winnona, retired and moved to Kingston, Ga., in 1998. There they enjoyed gardening, especially his flowers. Ronald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Winnona, of Mason City; sons, Roger (Linda), of Eloh, Colo., and Melvin (Lisa) of Nora Springs; grandchildren, Tessa M. Potter, Scott A. Tolzman He was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Osage, Iowa, to Herman and Minnie Berg Tolzman. He worked for the municipal sanitation department in Mason City, Iowa, in a sugar beet processing plant, Armour meat packing plants and worked many years in construction all while managing his own farm. After retiring, he worked for the Corps of Engineers in North Dakota and Waveland, Ark., as a gate attendant. LaVern was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Mason City and attended the Moores Chapel Church in Waveland, Ark. While serving in the Army in World War II he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the first wave of the Normandy invasion. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Albert, Dennis and Jeff Tolzman; one sister, Bernice Smith; and two brothers, Paul and Arthur Bartelt. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian Rose Young Tolzman; two daughters, Diane Neuhring and husband, Robert, of Mason City, and Susan Berry and husband, Thomas, of Havana, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Brad Neuhring and (Joan) of Mason City, Lori Schmidt and husband, Doug of Nora Springs, Christine Berry of Atwater, Calif., Stacey Henderson of Russellville, Ark., Jill Titsworth and husband, Eugene of Van Buren, Ark., Allison Hollis and husband, Danny, of Fort Smith, Ark., Brett Bishop of Fort Smith, Ark., John Tolzman, of Rock Falls, Tawny McElroy and husband, Price, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 15 great-grandchildren, Brandon Schmidt and (Ashley), Jeremy Schmidt and wife, Cassidy, Steven and Austin Schmidt, Zachary and Ashtyn Schmidt, Paige Rahn, Bryeanna Nordin and husband, Khris, Connor Berry, Ryan McKinney, Spencer Bodeker and wife, Kati and Brooke Bodeker, Lindsey Bishop, Stone and Blade Tolzman; one great-great-grandchild, Kaiden Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
