KANAWHA - Stella Baker, 92, of Kanawha, passed away Monday (March 9, 2009) at the Kanawha Community Home.
Funeral services for Stella Baker will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13, at Wright Christian Reformed Church, south of Kanawha, with Pastor Chuck Walton officiating. Burial will take place at Wright Christian Reformed Cemetery.
Visitation for Stella Baker will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, at the Ewing Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St. in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Stella was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Hancock County, the daughter of Al and Abbie Reikens Christians.
She was married to Edward Baker on Nov. 23, 1939, and they farmed south of Kanawha. She moved to Kanawha in 1986. Stella was an active member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church, south of Kanawha.
Stella is survived by two sons, Lewis Baker and his wife, Marcia, of Jenison, Mich., Albert Baker and his wife, Dawn, of Centennial, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Baker, of Champlin, Minn.; six grandchildren, Debra, Tony, Sandra, Sue, Mark and Dana; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Wessels; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Christians and a brother-in-law, Anco Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Baker; two sons, Alvin and Richard Baker; a grandson, Dean Baker; a brother, Henry Christians; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Bendickson, Jerry Lee  
 
MASON CITY - Jerry Lee Bendickson, 69, of Ottosen, formerly of Mason City, died Monday (March 9, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
A funeral service for Jerry will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, with the Rev. Timothy C. Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the chapel.
Jerry Lee Bendickson was born on March 2, 1940, in Mason City, the son of Maynard and Lorraine (Ayers) Bendickson. Jerry attended and received his education in the Mason City Public School. After completing his schooling, Jerry became a heavy equipment operator for Mason City Gravel. Jerry owned and operated Jerry's Dry Wall, dry walling in several communities in Iowa, and was well known for the quality of his work. Jerry retired from his business due to ill health.
He was united in marriage to Janis Ryerson. She preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Wilma Anderson in August 1974 in Albert Lea, Minn.
Jerry enjoyed driving race cars in Mason City, keeping his garage spotless for entertaining family and friends, camping, fishing, and he especially enjoyed listening to his wife Wilma's music.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wilma Bendickson of the West Bend Care Center; his mother, Lorraine Sigel of Topeka, Kan.; children, Bonnie Thoreson of Minneapolis, Minn., Scott (Lori) Bendickson of Austin, Minn., Theresa (Jim) Belden of Owatonna, Minn., Jeff Bendickson and special friend, Patti Page, of Austin, Minn., Lori (Mark) Schwanke of Owatonna, Minn., and Mike Bendickson of San Diego, Calif.; stepchildren, Wayne (Ann) Girard of Minneapolis, Minn., Wynnette Foss and special friend, Ken, of Leland, Wynn (Rita) Girard of Mechanicsville, Va., Warren Girard of Jacksonville, Fla., and Wendy (Steven) Strand of Forest City; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson; 10 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob, Jack and Mike Bendickson; a sister, Diane Adams; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Maynard; first wife, Janis; infant son, Steven; a sister, Linda Pierce; and a niece, Cheryl Pierce.
Jerry is at peace and in the arms of the angels.

MASON CITY -Vivian F. Brennan, 80, of Mason City died Monday (March 9, 2009) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City. Wanda Hagman, elder of the Community of Christ in Clear Lake, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Denney, Kathryn Ann  
 
CLEAR LAKE -Kathryn Ann Denney, who balanced a life of community and church service in addition to caring for her family, died Saturday evening (March 7, 2009) at her home in Clear Lake. She was 94.
A funeral mass will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 Ninth Avenue S., Clear Lake, with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka serving as celebrant. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 W., Mason City.
Visitation will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 11, at Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.
Born Kathyrn Ann Blake, Nov. 20, 1914, in Ackley. Mrs. Denney was a 1933 graduate of Belmond High School where she excelled in the fine arts before beginning a career in education. She attended the former Iowa State Teacher's College (now the University of Northern Iowa), graduating in 1935. During her college years, Mrs. Denney continued her love of music and singing. She spent her summers in training at Drake University.
She began an elementary teaching career in Belmond in 1935 and was a full-time instructor through 1949 in Fort Dodge. She married Robert Denney, formerly of Garner, in October 1950. The family lived in Garner, moving to Clear Lake in 1956.
Mrs. Denney was a longtime member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and continued her membership in Clear Lake. During her career, she served many roles within the sorority that included president and general chair of Belmond's sorority city council.
In 1969, Mrs. Denney became president of the Clear Lake Women's Club, Clear Lake Progress Club, and also was a president of the Progress Club. She was a singer in The Key Notes, a popular Clear Lake women's musical group. and was former county chairman of the International Federation of Women's Clubs.
As a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, Mrs. Denney was an active member of the church choir for more than two decades. During that time, Mrs. Denney also assisted in youth education classes and volunteered for a variety of parish functions. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a charter member of the St. Patrick's Prayer Ministry.
Mrs. Denney is best remembered by friends and family for a life of giving back to others - to her family, friends and to strangers in need. Mrs. Denney was one of Clear Lake's unofficial goodwill ambassadors, welcoming new members to her neighborhood as well as the community.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, a former Clear Lake businessman, city councilman and president of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce, who passed away in 1990; her father, Benjamin Blake, her mother, Julia; an infant brother, Richard; and a sister, Mary Pritchard.
Mrs. Denney is survived by her three children, a son, Robert, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., a son, Thomas, of Clear Lake, a daughter, Anne, of Lexington, Ky.; a grandson, Barry Pump, of Seattle, Wash.; and four nieces, Margaret Dunn of Danville, Ohio, Pat Herron of London, England, Kathy Evans of Berkeley, Calif., and Marian Pritchard of Laguna Beach, Calif.

NORTHWOOD -Virginia Lenore Mellem Evenson, 94, of Northwood, formerly of Sheldon, died Sunday (March 8, 2009) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Two funeral services will be held. The first service is at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, 1406 Central Ave., Northwood, with the Rev. Karl Hermanson officiating, and the second service is at 12 p.m. Friday, March 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sheldon, with the Rev. Ron Nelson officiating. BELMOND - Minnie L. Johnson, 83, of Belmond, died Sunday (March 8, 2009) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Blairsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church west of Belmond, with Pastor James Gochenouer officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond cemetery.

Knudsen, Ingeborg Katherine  
 
LYLE, Minn. - Ingeborg Katherine Knudsen, 103, of Lyle, died Tuesday (March 10, 2009) at Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. She was born June 19, 1905, the youngest of five girls, to Knute and Carolyn Kallison in Koling, Denmark, where she grew up and married Anders Knudsen on March 31, 1926.
They left the old country to begin their married life in America, arriving in Albert Lea, Minn., in May 1926. On Nov. 6, 1937, a son, Thomas LeRoy, was born. Ingeborg became an American citizen on Sept. 18, 1939, a very proud moment for her. For four years they worked at American Gas Co., after which they rented a farm near London for eight years. Ingeborg enjoyed working on the farm with her husband, and she especially liked working with the horses. In 1941 they moved to a farm in the Lyle area. Anders passed away in 1961.
An active member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church and then Our Savior's Lutheran in Lyle, Ingeborg also belonged to Jewish Mission Society, WCTU, Sudan Missions, and she enjoyed traveling. She will be remembered for the wonderful lunches she served to family and friends.
Survivors include a son, Thomas (Elta) Knudsen; grandsons, Anders (Cynthia) Knudsen and James (Kim) Knudsen; a granddaughter, Ruth (Joseph) Smillie; 11 great-grandchildren, all of St. Ansgar; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters and two daughters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn., with Pastor Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Interment is at Six Mile Grove Cemetery, rural Lyle, Minn.
Friends may call one hour before the service at church.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn.

MASON CITY - James A. Maskarina, 57, of 642 Third St. N.E., Mason City, died Tuesday (March 10, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before the service.

James was born Nov. 27, 1951, in Mason City, the son of George A. and Irene (Anderson) Maskarina.
He attended Mason City High School. He enjoyed traveling and had lived in Phoenix, Ariz., until 1985 when he moved back to Mason City.
He married Phyllis Chavez on Aug. 9, 1986, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.
He was an avid basketball and football fan, enjoyed NASCAR, and was a Jeff Gordon fan. He loved fishing, cooking, riding his bike, listening to rock music and being with his friends and family.
James is survived by his two children, Jamie Maskarina and George Maskarina, both of Mason City; his mother, Irene Willier of Mason City; his former wife and best friend, Phyllis Maskarina of Mason City; a stepson, Mike Chavez of Mason City; two brothers, John Maskarina and his wife Cindy, Mason City, and Paul Maskarina of Las Vegas, Nev., and sister, Jean Foley and her husband, Mike, of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his father, George, and brother, Mike, in 2008.

MASON CITY - Evelyn Marie Peterson, 80, of 689 16th St. S.E., Mason City, died Sunday (March 8, 2009) at her home.

Evelyn was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Mason City, the daughter of Elmer W. and Laura A. (Nash) Martin. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1946.
Evelyn married George "Joe" Peterson on Dec. 28, 1949, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City, and to this union two children were born.
Evelyn worked at Mode-o-day as a secretary, for Mason City Community Schools in food service, then at Wonderbread Thrift store, and she later worked for AC Nielsen in 1986.
In her spare time, Evelyn enjoyed reading, shopping, going to lunch, and playing cards and dice. Her greatest love and enjoyment was her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Kathie (Randy) Kopps of Mason City, Gary Peterson of Irvine, Calif.; her grandchildren, Scott Tanner of Washington, Iowa, and Lauren Peterson, a senior at Villanova University, Pa.; her sisters, Dorothy Auck of Rippon, Wis., Ida Kuehl of Des Moines, Shirley Tatum of Mason City; her brother-in-law, Maurice (Rose) Peterson of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, Jacon Tanner, sisters, Agnes, Ina, Hilda and June, brother, Elmer, and two brothers in infancy, Lyle and Maris.

Severson, Ruth  
 
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -Ruth Severson of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Thursday (March 5, 2009) in hospice care in Scottsdale.
Ruth was born Aug. 2, 1928, at Mason City, the daughter of Paul and Margaret Van Kamen, formerly of Lake Mills.
While living there she was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1946.
On May 29, 1948, she married Donald Severson of Scarville at the Methodist Church in Lake Mills. They have resided in Lake Mills, Scarville, Coulter, Pella, Clear Lake, Marshalltown and Indianapolis.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father in 1976, her mother in 1992, and her husband in 2005.
She is survived by three children, Linda Freie of Lincoln, Neb., Dorothy Ytzen of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Tom Severson of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one brother, Paul Van Kamen of Cedar Falls.
Funeral service will be at a later date. She will be cremated and the burial will be at the cemetery in Coulter, Iowa.

Vivian Frances Gernhart Brennan was born Sept. 3, 1928, at Sioux City, the daughter of Oliver and Amy (Calhoon) Gernhart. In 1946 she graduated from Moorland High School near Fort Dodge. On April 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Bernard Brennan at Coalville. They later divorced.
Vivian babysat throughout her whole life. She was a member of the Community of Christ (RLDS) in Clear Lake, the American Legion Auxiliary, Wa-tan-ye, Just Friends and was a Foster Grandparent for seven years.
Her interests included crafts, drawing, baking, shopping, reading, putting puzzles together, playing cards, socializing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Living family members include her children, Joe Brennan of Charles City, Bernie Brennan of Mason City, Neal (Tammie) Brennan of Plymouth, Sandra (Richard) Wilde of Osage, and Debi Simmerson of High Point, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Lou Brennan of Charles City; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Forrest) Lawson of Sparks, Nev.; and a brother, George Gernhart of Kalamazoo, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William, on Feb. 21, 2007; two sisters, Nettie and Nancy; four brothers, Jack, Jim, Bill and Fred; and a great-grandchild.

Maybelle Snopek was born June 27, 1919, in Manly, the daughter of John and Emma (Werner) Snopek. She was a 1936 graduate of Manly High School. She was united in marriage to Loyd Hansen on Nov. 27, 1937, in Manly at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; to this union four children were born. Maybelle and Loyd built their home in Rock Falls and raised their children. They moved to Mason City in 1981, were she was a beautician until her retirement.
Maybelle loved sewing, crocheting, traveling and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.
Maybelle is survived by her four children, Terry (Denny) DeBoom, Arlington, Texas, JoDee (Lincoln) Martin, Muscatine, Gary (Jackie) Hansen, Littleton, Colo., and Marilyn (Robert) Hyde, Rock Falls; eight grandchildren, Lee DeBoom, Ross DeBoom, Beth Martin, Christy (Freddy) Bernal, Corene (Andrew) Ross, Brenda (Logan) Wernet, Angeleen Marshall and Randall (Marcy) Hyde; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Weller, Rock Falls; one sister, Remelda (Robert) Gelner, Rudd; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Oreana Kline, Constance Leslie, Darlene Kuchar, and one brother, Francis Snopek.

BELMOND - Minnie L. Johnson, age 83, of Belmond passed away Sunday (March 8, 2009) from injury sustained in an automobile accident near Blairsburg.
Funeral services for Minnie Johnson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 13, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, west of Belmond. The Pastor James Gochenouer will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond cemetery.
Visitation for Minnie Johnson will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 12, at Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Minnie Lillian, the daughter of Philip and Elizabeth Groh Erdman, was born May 4, 1925, in Olaf. Minnie was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. She grew up near Olaf where she attended country school.
Minnie was united in marriage to Richard Kolpin at the St. John Lutheran parsonage in Belmond on Sept. 5, 1943. To this union two children were born, Richard and Karleen. Minnie's first husband, Richard, passed away in 1946. Minnie was united in marriage to Harris Johnson on Dec. 30, 1953. The couple made their home near the St. Olaf church where they farmed and raised their family. Harris and Minnie were blessed with two more children, Dallas and David. In 1978, Minnie and Harris moved into Belmond. Harris passed away in 1999. Minnie was a devoted employee of Printing Services in Belmond for more than 25 years, where she worked in the binding department.
Minnie enjoyed cooking, crochet and cross-stitch. She yearly looked forward to working and maintaining in her flower garden. Family was of the utmost importance to Minnie, she loved them all so dearly. She looked forward to the times she would have coffee with her brother and sisters. Minnie was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She always followed her grandchildren's lives and activities closely.
Minnie was an active member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She served the church in numerous capacities.
Minnie is survived by her children, Karleen Humphrey and husband, Dave, of Clear Lake, Dallas of Belmond, David and wife, Ruth, of Belmond, and a daughter-in-law, Wendy Kolpin of Kennwick, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Mike Mennenga (Kari), Angie Luther (Steve), Allen Kolpin, Brandon Kolpin, Elizabeth Johnson, Kyle Johnson (Lisa), Seth Johnson, Erin Johnson, Brook Hayes (Chad), Kelly Walbaum (Jimmy), Jennifer Dittmer and David Dittmer; 14 great-grandchildren, Shelby, Stephen, Nolan, Mikayla, Marisa, Kaleena, Nicole, Brandon Jr., Kaitlyn, Cooper, Brittney, Josh, Megan and Madeline; a sister, Mary Pringnitz of Kanawha; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard; second husband, Harris; a son, Richard; a daughter-in-law, Paula; four sisters, Betty Faulkner, Mollie Kalkwarf, Hilda Lee and Ann Pierce; a brother, Harold Erdman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Ruth Severson, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Thursday (March 5, 2009) in hospice care in Scottsdale.
Funeral services will be at a later date. She will be cremated and the burial will be at the cemetery in Coulter.
Ruth was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Mason City, the daughter of Paul and Margaret Van Kamen, formerly of Lake Mills. While living there she was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1946. On May 29, 1948, she married Donald Severson of Scarville at the Methodist Church in Lake Mills. They have resided in Lake Mills, Scarville, Coulter, Pella, Clear Lake, Marshalltown and Indianapolis.
Ruth is survived by three children; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother. Her children are Linda Freie of Lincoln, Neb., Dorothy Ytzen of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Tom Severson of Marshalltown. Her brother, Paul Van Kamen, lives in Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1976, her mother in 1992, and her husband in 2005.

CLEAR LAKE - Jacqueline Kay Rollefson, 70, 400 U.S. Hwy. 18 W., Clear Lake, went to be with her Eternal Savior Thursday (March 12, 2009) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, surrounded by her loving family, ending her battle of 30 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Hwy. 18 W., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dan Jordan officiating. Interment will be at Brush Point Cemetery, Fertile.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake.
Memorials may be given to the Jacqueline Rollefson Memorial Fund.
Jackie was born Aug. 3, 1938, in Iowa City, the daughter of Glen Warren and Allene (Hamilton) Martin. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1957.
Jackie married Raymond Dean Rollefson July 3, 1958, in Mason City, and to this union, four children were born.
She started working at the Park Hospital in Mason City. Then later worked at Oakwood Manor and Handicap Village (now Opportunity village) as a nursing aide.
She has lived at the Lakeland Apt., then Apple Valley Assisted Living until 2006 when she moved to Oakwood Care Center.
Jackie enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, shopping and drinking Cappuccino with her friend, Hazel. She loved her animals, taking a walk or riding her bike. She always enjoyed helping people and spending time with her grandchildren.
Jackie is survived by her four children, Cherri Kay Parris, of Clear Lake, Allen Ray (Laurie) Rollefson, of Coon Rapids, Rusty Glen (Sarah) Rollefson, of Clear Lake, and Debbie Sue (Marv) Miller, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Ben Parris, Anthony Miller, Tanner Rollefson, Jordan Rollefson and Joshua Miller, of Clear Lake; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Alexa Cruz Parris; brother, Rex (Virginia) Martin, of Charles City; and sister, Arvella Martin, of Mason City.

Lloyd Nicholas Scholl was born June 9, 1930, in Rockwell, the son of William and Ida (Nielson) Scholl. He was a graduate of Holy Family Catholic School in 1948.
Lloyd was united in marriage to Ramona Johnson on Sept. 30, 1950, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City; to this union four children were born.
Lloyd was a heavy equipment operator for McKiness Excavating and Al & Dick's Wrecker Service. The last 11 years he worked for Henkel Construction until his retirement.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, past member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was the grand knight in the 70's and helped with originating the Little League for the kids, past member of the Moose Lodge and the Softball Hall of Fame.
Lloyd enjoyed playing cards until Alzheimer's denied him the pleasure. He was a one of a kind jokester!
For the last three years he lived at the Heritage Care Center. His second family often called him "Papa Bear" because of the huge, big bear hugs he would give and smile at them with that twinkle in his eyes. He will be greatly missed by both families and numerous friends.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Ramona Scholl, of Mason City, children, Chuck (Mona) Scholl, of Mason City, Kathleen Scholl (Kim), of Mason City, Russ Scholl, of Charles City, Kelly Scholl, of Kensett; grandchildren, Lori Ward, Lindsay Landers, Max Stambaugh, and Nicole Scholl; great-grandson, Hoken Landers; siblings, Marian McIlrath, of Mason City, Danny (Mozel) Scholl, of Maryland, Raymond, (Peggy) Scholl, of Mason City; along with several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sister-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Edwin was born April 5, 1916, at the family farm home, son of Emil Frank and Selma (Wilde) Steinberg. He attended country school one mile south of his house.
On June 4, 1939, he married Evelyn Kruger. To this union two children were born, Frederick Dean and Carol Ann. Evelyn passed away on May 18, 1953.
On June 7, 1958, he married Maxine (Greiner) Nelson. To this union one son was born, David.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.
Edwin enjoyed farming, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Maxine; sons, Frederick (Karen) Steinberg, and David (Elaine) Steinberg; daughter, Carol (Buck) Jones; grandchildren, Brian (Tori) Steinberg, Bruce (Meagan) Steinberg, Steven (Toby) Jones, Jason (Rosemary) Jones, Jessica, Jeremiah, Joshua, and Jackson Steinberg. MASON CITY - Shirley Jeanette Borud, 72, of Mason City, formerly of Fosston, Minn., passed away on Wednesday (March 4, 2009).
Shirley was born on May 29, 1936, in Fosston, Minn., daughter of George and Esther Borud. She was baptized at St. Petri's Church in Columbia Township and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. She graduated from Fosston High School in 1954 and went on to complete her bachelor's degree from Bemidji State College. She began teaching in Bagley, Minn.
She subsequently earned her master's degree and worked at Worthington Community College and Minneapolis Community College. She retired from there in 1995 and moved back to Fosston in 1996. She moved down to Mason City in 2005 and was enjoying settling in there.
In 1978, Shirley adopted her daughter, Jarna, from India. In 1982 she adopted Betsy, also from India. She loved spending time with her daughters and visited them often.
Shirley was an active member at the United Methodist Church in Erskine, Minn., where she especially enjoyed the quilting group. She also enjoyed reading, writing, traveling and visiting her family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her infant brother; her mother, Esther Borud; father, George Borud; and daughter, Jarna Borud.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) June Ashoka Mitali Borud, of Fargo, N.D.; two sisters, Thelma (Ray) Worker of Monte Vista, Colo., and Phyllis (Nick) Ertz of Clear Lake; and two brothers, Gene (Elaine) Borud of Moorhead, Minn., and Gerald (Marlyss) Borud of McIntosh, Minn.; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

MASON CITY - Edward "Buster" Peter Johnson, 89, of Mason City died Thursday (March 12, 2009) at his home.
A funeral mass for Buster will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Craig E. Steimel officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 West, Mason City, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a scriptural wake service at 5 p.m.
The family of Edward "Buster" Peter Johnson has suggested that those wishing to give a memorial may direct them to the Humane Society of North Iowa, Mercy Cancer Center, or to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.
Edward Peter Johnson was born on May 4, 1919, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of George C. and Mary C. (Hanson) Johnson. He received his education in the Sheffield Community School, graduating from Sheffield High School in 1939. Buster was inducted into the Army in January 1940 at Fort Deveins, Mass., and served in the 16th Medical Battalion in the European Theater during World War II and was honorably discharged as a first sergeant in July 1945.
After his honorable discharge, Buster attended Hamilton Business College. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Guelff on Dec. 8, 1945, in Mason City. Buster worked for C.J. Smith Electric in Mason City before beginning his career with Crescent Electric Supply Co. in Mason City.
Buster managed Crescent Electric Supply for 22 years in the Mason City, Rochester, Minn., Albert Lea, Minn., and Spencer, Iowa, before his retirement in 1986.
Buster enjoyed fishing and traveling, but his great love of his life was his wife Betty of 63 years. They were always together. He also loved and enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Buster and Betty loved animals, especially dogs.
Buster was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a life member and commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 733, and a life member of the Elks Lodge all in Mason City.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Betty Lou Johnson of Mason City; daughters, Mary (Einar "Butch") Anderson of Mason City and Shari (Richard) Showalter of Sheffield; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lois) Anderson of Mason City, Christopher (Tanya) Showalter of Dumont, Katie Showalter and fianc�, Jeff Wenzel, of Ventura Heights, Joseph (Kelli) Showalter of Sheffield, Dustin (Julia) Showalter of Sheffield, and Joshua (Lindsey) Showalter of Sheffield; great-grandchildren, Brady Anderson of Mason City, Mackenzie and Michael Showalter of Dumont, Bailey and Kalen Ayers of Ventura Heights, Andyn, Addyson, Aubryee and Chase Showalter, all of Sheffield; a twin brother, Edwin "Bunny" Johnson, of Mason City; brother-in-law, Parnell Kelley of Mason City; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mabel Kelley and Anna Trailer; sisters-in-law, Ilene Johnson and Helen Holtzendorf; brothers-in-law, Delbert Trailer and Clifford Holtzendorf; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John (Bud) and Velma Guelff.
Sadly he will miss his 70th class reunion on May 18, which still meets monthly at the Sheffield Inn where they enjoy delicious dinners prepared by Diane.

Johnson, Signe Mildred Ramseth  
 
Signe Mildred Ramseth Johnson passed away peacefully in her 97th year at home on Friday (March 13, 2009) with a smile on her face, a twinkle in her eye and a song in her heart.
Signe is survived by her brothers, George Ramseth of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Rudy Ramseth of Sacramento, Calif.; daughters, Ingrid Adam (Michel) of Tailly, France, Julie Hoiseth (Gary) of Wayzata, Minn.; granddaughters, Elisabeth Adam Boucher (Julien), Charlotte Adam, Kirsten Hoiseth, and Turi Hoiseth; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Josephine, and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Lyle Johnson, and sister, Barbro Hagen, are deceased.
Signe was born on March 19, 1912, in Merrill, Wis., to Bertha and Ivar Ramseth, a Norwegian Lutheran pastor. They soon moved to Luther Valley in southern Wisconsin, and later to Waseca, Minn.
She attended St. Olaf College where in 1929 she auditioned and was accepted into the St. Olaf Choir as a 17-year-old freshman. Thus, as an 18-year-old, she toured Europe with the choir for three months. At the time of her death, she was the oldest alumna of the choir. Signe was passionate about art and music. She became a choir director in 1933 and moved to Worthington, Minn., where she met her future husband, Lyle "Bunny" Johnson. They married in 1941, and spent time in Northfield, Minn., and Fayetteville, Ark., before eventually settling in Spring Grove, Minn., and later, Mason City. Both taught at Mason City Junior College, which later became NIACC - North Iowa Area Community College.
Signe made yearly trips to France to see her family there, and recently returned from there in July. Over the years, she retained her strong interest in arts and crafts. She became known for building and painting toy boxes for children and grandchildren of her friends. She also created unique designs and hand painted wooden cooking spoons, platters and plaques.
She was also a published poet. Many of you have read her poem "Summer Came," on the Caring Bridge Web site. Finally, she sang with the Plymouth Rockers, a singing group for those 55 and older, until her stroke on Dec. 6, 2008.
The funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Minn.
Visitation will be at 1.30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. Reception to follow.

MASON CITY - Robert E. Lauritson, 77, of 331 S. Indiana Ave., Mason City, died Wednesday (March 11, 2009) at his home.

He was cremated at Fullerton Funeral home and Cremation Services.

Robert was born on May 29, 1931, in Algona, the son of Wilferd and Lillian Ethel "Baker" Lauritson. He attended school in Algona and Dows, graduating from Dows. He furthered his education by attending college and plumbing apprenticeship. In 1952 he joined the Army with the 25th Infantry and served his country honorably until his discharge in 1955. He served in Korean War and was in the Kumah Valley and Pork Chop Hill campaigns. On December 7, 1954, he and his wife Mary "Johnson" were united in marriage at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. To this union was born five children. They enjoyed a 52-year marriage. His early career was at State Brand Creamery and later became a plumber and steamfitter, retiring in 1995 from Local 33. Bob and Mary spent many winters in Arizona and met many friends there. Honesty and integrity were his mottos in life. He also enjoyed his many trips fishing in Minnesota with his family. Target shooting was his passion and expertise and he made trips to Camp Perry in Ohio where he won many awards.
Those thankful in sharing Bob's life include his five children, Debrah (Paul) Baker of Iowa City, Diane Rae Farra of Mason City, Joseph (Melody) Lauritson of Radcliffe, Judy (Joe) Bittner of Mason City and Dan (Bridget) Lauritson of Mason City; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie (Harlan) Halverson, of Fort Dodge; one brother, Joseph (Donna) Lauritson, of Arkansas; and a host of friends.
His wife Mary in 2006, his parents and grandparents preceded him in death.

ALGONA -Mary Frideres, 71, of Algona, died March 13, 2009, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.
Funeral service for Mary will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward M. Girres officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home with a rosary recitation at 4:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.

Johnson, Signe Mildred Ramseth  
 
Signe Mildred Ramseth Johnson passed away peacefully in her 97th year at home on Friday (March 13, 2009) with a smile on her face, a twinkle in her eye and a song in her heart.
Signe is survived by her brothers, George Ramseth of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Rudy Ramseth of Sacramento, Calif.; daughters, Ingrid Adam (Michel) of Tailly, France, Julie Hoiseth (Gary) of Wayzata, Minn.; granddaughters, Elisabeth Adam Boucher (Julien), Charlotte Adam, Kirsten Hoiseth, and Turi Hoiseth; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Josephine, and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Lyle Johnson, and sister, Barbro Hagen, are deceased.
Signe was born on March 19, 1912, in Merrill, Wis., to Bertha and Ivar Ramseth, a Norwegian Lutheran pastor. They soon moved to Luther Valley in southern Wisconsin, and later to Waseca, Minn.
She attended St. Olaf College where in 1929 she auditioned and was accepted into the St. Olaf Choir as a 17-year-old freshman. Thus, as an 18-year-old, she toured Europe with the choir for three months. At the time of her death, she was the oldest alumna of the choir. Signe was passionate about art and music. She became a choir director in 1933 and moved to Worthington, Minn., where she met her future husband, Lyle "Bunny" Johnson. They married in 1941, and spent time in Northfield, Minn., and Fayetteville, Ark., before eventually settling in Spring Grove, Minn., and later, Mason City. Both taught at Mason City Junior College, which later became NIACC - North Iowa Area Community College.
Signe made yearly trips to France to see her family there, and recently returned from there in July. Over the years, she retained her strong interest in arts and crafts. She became known for building and painting toy boxes for children and grandchildren of her friends. She also created unique designs and hand painted wooden cooking spoons, platters and plaques.
She was also a published poet. Many of you have read her poem "Summer Came," on the Caring Bridge Web site. Finally, she sang with the Plymouth Rockers, a singing group for those 55 and older, until her stroke on Dec. 6, 2008.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Sunday, March 15, at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Minn.
Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. today one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Kingery, Keith E.  
 
CEDAR FALLS -Memorial services for Keith E. Kingery, 83, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford Street, Marble Rock, with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery, Marble Rock, with military honors conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 of Greene.
Keith Everett Kingery was born on Jan. 11, 1926, in Marble Rock, a son of Darrell and Osea P. (Hesalroad) Kingery, and died Feb. 28, 2009, in Tucson, Ariz.
He graduated from the Marble Rock High School where he played basketball. Following graduation he enlisted in the armed forces as a Merchant Marine where he served in the Pacific Ocean during World War II.
He married Pauline A. Thieman on Oct. 2, 1948, in Waukeegan, Ill.
She preceded him in death in 1983. He later married Donna Robinson in 1988.
Keith worked as a typesetter and proofreader for various newspapers including the Waterloo Courier, where he worked for many years. He and Donna eventually retired to Tucson, Ariz. Keith enjoyed watching college sports and was a huge fan of the Arizona Wildcats. He and Donna celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on Nov. 11, 2008.
Keith is survived by his wife Donna, one son, Michael (Jimi Jo) Kingery of Garner; two daughters, Sandra (Bob) Trumbauer of Waterloo, Debra Barker, of West Des Moines; six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; one step-daughter, Rasynelle (Dean) Duhl of Tucson, Ariz., three stepsons, Dennis (Renee) Robinson of Tucson, Ariz., Tim (Debbie) Robinson of Evansdale, and Rick (Sharon) Robinson of Denver, and eight step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pauline, his son Richard, and his sister, Ethel.
Memorial arrangements have been entrusted to Reid's Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford Street, Marble Rock, 641-823-4457.

Limbaugh, Nancy Elaine  
 
ST. PETERS, Mo.- Nancy Elaine Limbaugh, age 65, of St. Peters, Mo., passed away on March 14, 2009.
Nancy was cremated and services were rendered by Alternative Funeral & Cremation Services 2115 Parkway Drive, Saint Peters, Mo. 63376.
Nancy was born on Dec. 30, 1943, in Manly, Iowa, to Arnold August and Helen Pauline (Knudson) Hackbart. She lived all her young life in Manly and Grafton, Iowa. She graduated in 1962 from North Central High School in Manly.
Nancy married Jack Limbaugh in Hawaii in 1966 then they moved to Guam. Later they moved to Missouri. She worked at SSM Hospital for 25 years.
She is survived by one sister, Karen Platt, of Bettendorf, Iowa; one brother, Allen Hackbart, of California; three nieces, Lori Angus, Kari Neathery and Rachel Brady; one nephew, Andy Hackbart; three great nieces, Maya Neathery, Ani Moore and Abby Hackbart. She had many cousins and friends in North Iowa.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Outreach Meals on Wheels in care of the funeral home.

GREENE - Ella Ramker, 84, of 507 North Bluff Street, Greene, died Friday (Mach 13, 2009) at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Greene, with the Rev. Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Greene. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009 at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, Greene, where there will be a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church one hour before services.

MASON CITY - Bria Marie Sahr, daughter of Troy and Susan Sahr, was born silently on Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services to celebrate Bria's life will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday (March 16, 2009) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Pastor Jeff Dahlin of Praise Community Church officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Bria Sahr Memorial Fund in care of the family.
Bria is greatly missed and remembered by her mommy and daddy, Susan and Troy; brothers, Andrew and Jacob; sister, Hana; paternal grandparents, Garry and Shirley Sahr of Mason City; maternal grandparents, Leo and Barbara Massman Sr. of Waverly; maternal great-grandparents Jerome and Lucille Shimek of Spillville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Bria joins in heaven her great-grandparents from the Sahr, Halverson and Massman families; her cousin, Trevor Massman, and several other relatives.

HUMBOLDT - John Seiler, 78, of Humboldt, passed away on March 13, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Humboldt with full military rites by the Adams American Legion Post 119 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and parish vigil service at 8 p.m.
John is survived by his wife, Laura, of Humboldt; children, Richard "Dick" (Lynn) Seiler of Pocahontas, Russell (Mary) Seiler of Humboldt, Ronald (Kristi) Seiler of Pocahontas, Jeffrey (Ronda) Seiler of Chanhassen, Minn., and Shirley Seiler of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Angela Seiler, Anthony Seiler, and David Seiler; step-grandchildren, Jodi Walstrom and Josh Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Tre Seiler, Autumn Seiler, Maxwell Seiler, and Austin Seiler; step great-grandchildren, Detrick and Emma Walstrom; son-in-law, Alan (Annette) Lindahl of Sioux City; and sisters, Rose Mary Swaney of Des Moines, Maxine Noble of Britt, and JoAnn Heifner of Humboldt. Tracy, Lois M. Donaldson  
 
MASON CITY -Lois M. Donaldson Tracy, 94, of Mason City, died Saturday, (March 7, 2009) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka and the Rev. Craig E. Steimel officiating. Inurnment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Lois has donated her body to science.
Memorials may be directed to the Newman School Foundation or the Lois Tracy Memorial Fund.
Lois was born on Jan. 9, 1915, at the old Story Hospital in Mason City, the daughter of David Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Mullen) Donaldson. She lived in Mason City all but three years of her life (1920-1923), when the family lived in Cassville, Wis., where her father managed the Municipal Light and Power Company.
Lois received three years of her education from St. Charles School and the Public School in Cassville, Wis. She graduated from St. Joseph School in Mason City in 1932, first in her class. Her extra-curricular interest was journalism. She was editor of "The Mason City Blue J," high school newspaper, and was business manager of the year book, "Anjo." In 1930 she was the local and state winner of the national Gorgas Essay Contest. Lois worked for The Stoyles Press, 1932-1936 as office secretary. She also edited "Around the Square," the firm's monthly magazine, which featured local persons and places of historical interest. Her favorite interview was with Margaret McMillin Shipley. The publications are now included in the Iowa Room of the Mason City Library. Lois also worked for Jacob E. Decker & Sons office from 1936-1944, as secretary to Milton H. Decker, purchasing agent.
Lois married Eugene L. Tracy on Oct. 8, 1941, at the "old" Holy Family Church in Mason City. She was a member of St. Teresa's Sodality, Business Girls League of the YWCA, Double Y Social Club, Delta Theta Chi, Business Girls Sorority, Athenian Study Club for 20 years, a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. She served on the boards of the Holy Family Guild, Holy Family PTA, Friends of the Library, and the North Iowa Girl Scout Council. She was also a member of the North Iowa Genealogy Society, MacNider Art Museum, River City Historical Society, and the Kinney Pioneer Museum. Her interests included family and friends, local history, genealogy, reading, and the Girl Scout program.
Lois received several honors including Thanks Badge, from North Iowa Girl Scout Council, St. Anne's Medal, from Archdiocese Council of Catholicism, Outstanding Senior Volunteer of 1979, from the Mason City Volunteer Bureau.
Left to cherish Lois's memory are her children, Jean M. Samis of Cranbrook, B.C.; Albert L. Tracy of Mason City, David J. Tracy of Henderson, Texas; special friend, Jan Hegenbarth; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; nephews, John Donaldson, Daniel Donaldson, Steve Allen, Doug Allen and Greg Allen; great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene in 1998; two sisters, Myrne Ohs and husband, Gene, and Sister Doris Donaldson, PBVM; one brother, John J. Donaldson and wife, Wanda; brother-in-law, the Rev. Maurice Tracy and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Allen and husband, Wilbur.
