Brennecke, Frank  
 
Frank Brennecke, 80, of Ackley, died in Waterloo on Sunday (Sept. 7, 2008) from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Frank was born June 5, 1928, in Marshalltown, the son of Mildred (Wellons) and Charles Brennecke. He was raised in rural Marshall County and graduated from Lamoille High School in 1946. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1950 with a B.S. degree in agricultural economics. He served in the Army during the Korean War from October 1950 until October 1952.
He was united in marriage to Ethel Eloise Drake of Patterson on May 24, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union six children were born: Daniel, Janita, Jackie, Jeanie, Douglas and Elaine.
Frank was a salesman. He worked for Hertz Farm Management in Nevada, Iowa, and for a wind machine company in Yuma, Ariz., sold Fuller Brushes, World Book Encyclopedias and was a real estate broker. In January, 1953, Frank opened Brennecke Farm Management in Marshalltown. Frank was employed as manager of Farm Service in Ackley, for 30 years from March 1965 until his retirement. People often referred to him as "Monsanto Frank."
Frank was president of Ackley Limestone Co. Inc. from its inception in 1978 until 2003.
Frank was a long-time member of the Elks Club, Lions Club, Ackley Men's Club, Moose Lodge, Ackley American Legion Post No. 25, Ducks Unlimited, Ackley Country Club, Ackley United Methodist Church and Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Frank enjoyed elk hunting in Colorado, picnics, going to the casino and playing chess. He was an avid reader, reading anything he could get his hands on. He liked to talk about farming and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He enjoyed taking the grandkids out for ice cream. Frank looked forward to having coffee and visiting with his friends each day.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise; sons, Dan (Sandy) of Grand Junction, Colo., and Doug of Lincoln, Neb.; daughters, Janita (Bryce) Abbas of Oskaloosa, Jackie of Richmond, Va., Jeanie (Andrew) Cook, of Fort Dodge, and Elaine (James) Moats of Hampton; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Doris Coppes of Yarmouth, Iowa; one brother, Karl (Mary) Brennecke of Reno, Nev.; one brother-in-law, Allen (Marilyn) Drake of Patterson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Katherine and Janet Brennecke in infancy, Carol Scarbrough and Marian Rasmus; and one brother, David Brennecke.
Funeral services were held at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Cook, Jamie P.  
 
BELMOND - Jamie P. Cook, 37, of Belmond and Kanawha, passed away of natural causes Friday (Sept. 12, 2008) near Kanawha.
Funeral services for Jamie Porter Cook will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond with Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation for Jamie Porter Cook will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 16, 2008, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
Jamie Porter, the son of Earl and Carol Hayes Cook Parks, was born Aug. 1, 1971, in Dayton, Ohio. At the age of 11, Jamie moved with his family to Belmond. He attended schools in Belmond and graduated from the Belmond High School in 1989. Jamie then attended college in Emmetsburg.
Jamie married his high school sweetheart, Tina Janssen, on May 25, 1991. To this union two children were born, Jordan and Keyra. After many years of working construction, Jamie decided on truck driving as his profession.
Jamie had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed riding his 2000 Harley-Davidson Sportster. A sports fanatic, Jamie was a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team, the Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Philadelphia Eagles football team. Of all his pasttimes though, Jamie cherished the time he spent with his children and family the most.
Jamie is survived by his children, Jordan and Keyra, and their mother, Kristina; parents, Earl and Carol Parks of Kanawha; brothers, Russell Jay Jr. and wife Vicki of Indiana, Christopher and wife Angie of Kanawha, Jackson of Kanawha, John and Julie of Indiana, Jimmy and Debbie of Indiana and Marty of Florida; sisters, Serena Short and husband Chris of Indiana, Ruth Apple and husband Bill of Florida, and Hope Baker and husband Mike of Indiana; step-sisters, Teresa Bernard of Nebraska; Kim Cronin and husband Mike of Nebraska, and Tonya Christy and husband Justin of Oklahoma; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; extended family, Brett and Sonja Lobdell and family and Barb and Ted Watne and family.
Jamie is preceded in death by his father, Jim Cook; a nephew, Shawn Cook; sister-in-law, Sue Cook; grandparents; and aunts and uncles.

MASON CITY - Charles J. "Chuck" deBuhr, 68, of Mason City, died Thursday (Sept. 11, 2008) at his home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jon M. Seda officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.
Charles was born Dec. 5, 1939, in Rockford, Iowa, the son of Gerhardt and Agnes (Nugent) deBuhr. He attended Rockford High School and graduated in 1958.
After graduation, Chuck went to work at the Ford Motor Co. in Mason City until his retirement in 2005. He enjoyed country music, watching NASCAR,and anything that had to do with Fords. Charles also liked to spend time outside taking care of his flowers. He was known for his humorous personality and was very funny.
He is survived by his sister, Mary K. Johnson, of Youngstown, Ohio; his nephews, Dan (Jodi) Johnson, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Michael (Rebecca) Johnson, of Youngstown, Ohio; his niece, Jennifer (Brian) Simmers, of Alpine, Wyo.; his great-nieces and nephews, Danielle and Alexa Johnson, of Youngstown, Ohio, Emily, Abbey, Parker and Kate Johnson, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Jack Campana, of Alpine, Wyo., along with many cousins and many close neighborhood friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.

MASON CITY - Richard "Dick" William Blake, 70, of Mason City died Wednesday (March 21, 2007) at the Rockwell Nursing Home.

Richard deeded his body to the University Of Iowa Medical Center Department Of Anatomy to improve the medical care of this and coming generations.

The college of medicine has completed their study for scientific purposes, and graveside inurnment services for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the West Bend Cemetery, with the Rev. Judy DePue officiating. Luncheon served immediately following the service at the West Bend Golf & Country Club.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Thornton, with Pastor Rose Calderon-Khan presiding. Interment will be at a later date at Meservey Cemetery, Meservey.

VENTURA - Yvonne Haltom, 84, of Ventura, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2008) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Yvonne was born Feb. 24, 1942, in Portland, Ore., the daughter of George and Evelyn (Masters) Hildreth. She was raised in California. Yvonne married Bill Haltom Feb. 18, 1942, in California. They moved to Des Moines then to Clear Lake in 1975. Some of Yvonne's interests included entertaining, cooking and fishing. She loved being with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many friends.

Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Pam (Ron) Charlson of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Melissa (Joe) Fruscella of Chesterfield, Mo., Jason (Shelley) Kinker of Chesterfield, Mo., and Christopher Charlson of St. Louis, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Will Kinker, Max, Sam, and Giovanni Fruscella; brother, Reg (Claire) Hildreth of LaSelva Beach, Calif.; niece, Tina Oldfield of Monument, Colo.; nephew, Reggie Hildreth Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; cousin, Jr (Jerry) Majors of Weimar, Calif.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill in 2001.

AUSTIN, Minn. - Delano "Dano" Riles passed away Saturday (Sept. 13, 2008) at his home in Austin, Minn.

He was born Sept. 12, 1963, and graduated from Austin High School.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin, Minn. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services on Friday.

Dano is survived by his father, Paul Riles and wife, Cathy, of Plymouth, Iowa; two brothers, Nick of Rochester, Minn., and Dennis of Hudson, Wis.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pat Riles.

Dirks, Muriel "Annie"  
 
CLEAR LAKE - Muriel "Annie" Dirks, 61, of Clear Lake, formerly of Thornton, died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Thornton with Pastor Rose Calderon-Khan presiding. Interment will be at a later date at Meservey Cemetery, Meservey.

Her family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Retz-Grarup Funeral Home, 107 N. First St., Thornton.

Muriel Ann "Annie" Dirks was born April 8, 1947, at Tama, a daughter of Lawrence and Reva (Estel) Marlow. She attended schools in Tama and Mason City.

She was united in marriage with Jerry Allen Dirks on Aug. 20, 1966, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey. They raised their family in Thornton.

Annie worked as a waitress and bartender at the Shady Beach in Clear Lake and the tavern in Thornton for many years. In 2006 Annie moved to Clear Lake where she lived at the Apple Valley Assisted Living and spent the past two months as a resident of Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Annie was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Thornton.

She enjoyed spending her time dancing and doing crossword puzzles. She greatly enjoyed her time at Apple Valley but the best times for her were those spent with her grandchildren.

Annie is survived by her children and their families, Todd (Violeta) Dirks and their children, Veronica and her son, Devon; Tim and John; Chris Dirks (Todd Ouverson) and her son, Braiden; Jeremy (Katie) Dirks and their son, Matthew; sisters and brothers: Maureen (Harlan) Leake of Mason City, Marjorie (Garry) Benson of Eldora, James (Connie) Marlow of Charles City and Jean (Gary) Conrad of Clear Lake; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ron (Judy) Dirks of Meservey, Doris Dirks of Mason City, John (Cindy) Dirks of Mason City, Jim (Nancy) Dirks of Clear Lake and Karen (Frank) Uhde of Thornton. She is the aunt of 22 and the great-aunt of 46.

Muriel Ann Dirks is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry, in 1992; brothers-in-law Bob and Louis Dirks; nephew Scotty Dirks; and niece Jennifer Hamand.

RICEVILLE - Nancy A. Greeley, 63, of Riceville died Monday (Sept. 15, 2008) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Johnson, Merlin  
 
MESERVEY - Merlin Johnson, 82, of Meservey passed away Monday (Sept. 15, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Merlin Johnson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey with Pastor Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander cemetery.

Visitation for Merlin Johnson will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 18, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S., Belmond, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to North Iowa Hospice in his memory.

Merlin Johnson, son of Cornelius and Johanna Sporaa Johnson, was born at the family home near Alexander. He attended school in Alexander, graduating from Alexander High School in 1944. After graduation, Merlin farmed with his father on the family farm.

Merlin was united in marriage to Donna Fjetland on Oct.14, 1949. The couple made their home for a time in the Alexander area before moving to Clear Lake. In Clear Lake, Merlin and Donna ran and owned the Johnson Paint and Gift Store from 1964 until 1991. After a move to Meservey in 1991, he worked for a time as a security guard at Eaton Corp. in Belmond.

Merlin enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Alaska was one of his favorite places, as he made countless trips to spend time there. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren brought him great joy. He also enjoyed being able to help friends out with numerous paint jobs.

Merlin was a member of the Clear Lake Lions Club. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey.

Merlin is survived by his wife, Donna; his three sons, Randy (Ann Marie) of Anchorage, Alaska, Terry of Burnsville, Minn., and Jeff of Lake Louise, Alaska; grandchildren, Brian Johnson and Laura Czech; great-granddaughter Mariah Johnson; sister Verna Kramer of Darwin, Minn.; and brother Roman (Wilma) Johnson of Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - William Ludwick Martin, 74, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 14, 2008) in the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Medical Hospital at Indianapolis.

He was born Nov. 21, 1933, at Mason City to William F. Martin and Minda Askelson Martin.

He retired as a truck driver after many years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Norine Hillier Martin; eight children: William L. Martin and his wife, Barb, of Greene, Peggy Wefel and her husband, Allen, of Cedar Rapids, Linda Martin and her companion, Ed Shaw, of Waterloo, Ralph Michael "Mike" Martin and his wife, Tonya, of Nashua, Karen Reisem and her husband, Jeff, of Greene, Paul Monsen and his wife, Ruth Ann, of White Pidgeon, Mich., Sheryl Bilotta and her husband, Jack, of West Liberty, Iowa, and Joleen Klotz and her husband, John Klotz II, of West Terre Haute, Ind.; his previous wife, Opal S. Martin of Charles City; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Clayton and Doris Martin of Charles City, Eli and Gladys Martin of Ashland, Ky., and Harlan and Kelly Martin of Donnellson, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Kathleen Joy Martin and Mary Kay Martin; a son, Patrick Steven Martin; four brothers and one sister.

He was a member of the St. Mary Of The Woods Village Catholic Church. He was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and receiving two purple hearts and three bronze battle stars.

He was a Golden Gloves boxing champion while serving in the Marines. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 972 at Terre Haute.

He loved gardening, fishing, bingo and traveling. He was very proud of his grandchildren and family serving in the military. Cremation has been chosen.

A memorial Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the St. Mary's Village Catholic Church, North Arms Place, St. Mary of the Woods, Ind., with the Rev. Bernard Head officiating.

Visitation will be at 4:30 p.m. until service time Thursday in the church.

There will also be services at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating.

Carrie Denise (Gruis) Meggers, 32, died following a long illness Monday (Sept. 15, 2008) with family by her side at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave., Rockford, Iowa, and funeral services at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating. A service of memory will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Carrie was born April 20, 1976, in Mason City to Dennis and Patricia (Reynolds) Gruis. She graduated from Rockford Senior High School and Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Carrie and Theodore (Ted) Meggers had three children, Madison Marie (8), Jonathen Matthew (6) and Mackenzie Marcele (4).

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Madison, Jonathen, and Mackenzie, in the care of their grandparents, Dan and Jan Johnson. She is also survived by her parents, Dennis (Becky) Gruis, Patricia Gruis; sisters, Laurie (Merlin) Eckerson; Dee (Travis) Schweizer; and Jenna (Tim) Sondag; aunts Sue Healey and cousins, Mike and Pat Healey, Debra (James) Loven and cousin, Jill Loven; Uncle Dan Reynolds; and cousins, Sterling and Matthew Reynolds; grandmother, Mary Lou (Art) Rethamel; niece and nephews: Kalie and Kaleb Eckerson and Taylor Schweizer; also, Carrie's cherished friend, John Hutchinson.

Bernice, the daughter of Walter and Bertha Riley Heddinger, was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Emmetsburg. She attended schools in Cylinder, Rolfe and West Bend. Bernice graduated from Rolfe High School in 1947.

Bernice was united in marriage to Jerry Payer on June 5, 1950, in Rolfe. The couple made their home in Pocahontas for 14 years. She worked for a time as a cook at the Ideal Caf� in Pocahontas. Bernice and Jerry moved to Belmond in 1964. She was proud of her role as a farm wife and of the time she spent raising her children.

Bernice was the office administrator for the Manly Ready Mix Plant in Manly with Jerry and also helped him at the Motel 6. They moved back to Belmond in 1991. She was a dedicated employee of the P&G Deli for many years.

Bernice liked being in the outdoors, especially fishing. She could often be found enjoying games, whether it was Yahtzee, cards or even computer games. She loved time spent with her family most of all.

Bernice was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. In the past she was also a member of the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Bernice is survived by her husband Jerry; her three children: Connie (Jim) Eckhoff of Meservey, Steven (Lynda) Payer of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Richard (Laura) Payer, of Mason City; grandchildren, Kimberly Wilkinson, of Clarion, Brian (Jen) Eckhoff, of Mason City, Andrew Beavers of Lutsen, Minn., Lindsay Beavers (fianc� Ryan Gerow) of Mason City and Jonathon Payer of Mason City; great grandchildren: Danielle Wilkinson, Jeremiah Wilkinson, and Benjamin Eckhoff; sisters, Eileen Allen, Chatfield, Minn.; Lucy Johnson and husband Ron, Cedar Falls: Catherine Mead, Aplington, Darlene Weishaar, Oelwein; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Heddinger, Fairlawn, N.J., Joyce Heddinger, Fort Dodge, Doris Pickering, Louisville, Ky.: Bernice Noyes, Blair, Neb.; Gerry Jordan, Boone: Esther Payer Pocahontas, Karlene Payer, Pocahontas; brothers-in-law, Duane (Shirley) Payer, Centerville, Ronald Payer, Pocahontas, Bob (Patty) Payer, Storm Lake; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. - LaVern Rogness, 85, of Fergus Falls, Minn., died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2008) at Broen Home Short Stay.

He was born July 1, 1923, in Emmons, Minn., the son of Henry and Luella (Brua) Rogness. LaVern attended country schools in Minnesota and Iowa. He started farming on his own in 1944.

On June 30, 1946, LaVern married Eileen Schwartz at the Radio Chapel in Mason City. The couple farmed in the Mason City and Joice areas for 20 years before moving to Fergus Falls in 1966. LaVern and Eileen continued to raise livestock and crop farm south of Fergus Falls until he retired. Eileen passed away in 2005.

LaVern enjoyed building items out of wood, rebuilding machinery, working with livestock, collecting toy tractors and attending toy shows and farm auctions.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and dearly loved spending time with his family and friends, but more importantly was his love for his savior, Jesus Christ.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Luella Zanios Rumeliote, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2008) surrounded by family. Formerly of Mason City, Luella moved to Minneapolis to be close to her dearly loved family.

Preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Costa; parents James and Vasiliki (Bessie) Zanios and nine sisters and brothers, Marie Malakataris, Fala Soumas, Stella Pathoulas, Jean James, George Zanios, Tom Zanios, Gertrude Ringus, Elizabeth Paras and Chris Zanios.

She is survived by her daughters Tena Zahariades, Bloomington, Minn. and Elaine Boosalis (James), Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren Stephanie Stephenson (Sean) of Phoenix, Ariz., Krisanthya Reiman (Dean) of Elk River, Minn., Andrea Pfleider (Greg) of Plymouth, Minn. and Michael Boosalis (Maggie) of San Antonio, Texas; her four precious treasures, great-grandchildren Nicole Zahariades, Reinnen Pfleider, Tatum Pfleider and Samuel Stephenson. She is survived by one sister Helen Berris of Detroit, Mich.

Born Aug. 7, 1917, in Mason City, Luella was one of 11 children. She married Costa D. Rumeliote in October of 1938. Luella and her husband founded Costa's Supper Club in Mason City. After Costa's untimely death in 1955, she continued to operate the club until the late 1960s. She loved her family and enjoyed baking and cooking her special recipes for them and others.

Luella also loved gardening, playing cards with friends and family as well as being active in the hospitality business. She was involved in the Greek Orthodox Church both in Mason City and Minneapolis, and particularly enjoyed St. Mary's Seniors Group. She was limitless in her caring and nurturing.

The family would like to thank everyone at Mount Olivet Home and especially Jeff Schleif and the staff of the third floor, as well as Dr. Jennifer Olson of Park Nicollet Clinic.

A memorial prayer service will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave. S., Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W., Mason City, with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Concord Township Cemetery in Garner, with the Rev. Harvey Opp officiating.

Patricia Lee (Bethke) Stallings, the daughter of Charley and Dorothy (Whitney) Bethke was born July 10, 1924, at Hubbard, Iowa. She attended school in Hubbard and graduated from Garner High School in 1942. She then attended Stephens College.

In 1944, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class.

After moving to California in the 1950s, she worked for the California Department of Motor Vehicles and then Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as an operator. After retiring from PT&T she resided in Paradise, Calif. until 1987 at which time, she relocated to Sedro Woolley, Wash., to be near family.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Toni) and Joe (Patti) Holden, both of Arlington, Wash.; a daughter, Polly (John) Harvey, of Wasilla, Alaska; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Fred Stallings; and a sister, Dona Greiman.

Marian was born April 5, 1924, in Lincoln, Neb. She was the daughter of Roy S. and Ethel T. Weber.

The family moved to Mason City in 1940 and Marian graduated from Mason City High School in 1942. She married Robert C. Wass in 1945.

They were stationed in Texas and Florida until his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Force. She was a mother and homemaker and a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved with several organizations.

She was a member of PEO Chapter KW, an avid bridge player and a regular at the YWCA where she enjoyed swimming and volleyball.

The family would like to thank the staff at Emerson Point and Iowa City Hospice for the loving care given to Marian.

She is survived by two sons, John R. Wass and his wife, Catherine, of Suffolk, Va., and James M. Wass and his wife, Diane, of Tiffin; one daughter, Jean A. Sheeley and her husband, Bryan, of Coralville; two granddaughters, Sarah K. Killion and her husband, Jeremy of Coralville, and Samantha L. Sheeley of Emporia, Kan.; one great-grandson, Cayne L. BUFFALO CENTER - Bessie Weaver, 95, of Buffalo Center, went to be with Her Lord, Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2008) at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center, with Pastor David Langer officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 19, at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center.

Bessie Margaret (Bosma) Weaver was born March 16, 1913, in Kossuth County, southwest of Buffalo Center to Thomas and Florence (Adams) Bosma. She was the ninth of a family of 14 children which included seven boys and seven girls. She attended country school and helped with many things on the farm. She also worked as a hired girl for several families in the area.

On June 15, 1941, she married Harold August Weaver. To this union, three daughters were born. For several years, they farmed in the Lakota, Buffalo Center, and Garner areas until 1960 when they moved into Buffalo Center. In 1976, their marriage ended in divorce.

Bessie was a faithful attendant at the First Congregational Church. She was their janitor for 12 years which was a great joy to her. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 13 and later was baptized. She loved to read the Bible, sing hymns and was a prayer warrior.

Bessie also did cleaning for various businesses and individuals in the community. She loved to garden, sew, bake, paint pictures, write poems and letters, read, and do crafts. She also enjoyed her flowers and watching and feeding the birds.

In 1992, she moved from her home to the care center for the winter. Then in the spring of 1993, she moved to an assisted living unit in Garner and then moved back to the care center a couple of years later.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Gloria Smith and her husband, Lewis Charles, of Indianola; Karen Penning and her husband, Doug, of Buffalo Center; and Debra Fardal and her husband, Dan, of Forest City; five grandchildren, Keith Larson and his wife, Joan, of Burlington; Amy Hicok and her husband, Bill, of Lake Mills; Angela Borst and her husband, Jeff, of Altoona; Jeremy Fardal and fianc�e Kristine Mannes of Ringsted; and Steven Fardal, of Forest City; seven great-grandchildren: Jennifer Peterson, of Clear Lake; Chelsea Larson, of Des Moines; Zachary, Cody, Logan, and Brayden Borst, of Altoona; Evan Fardal of Ringsted; one great-great-grandson, Carter Peterson, of Clear Lake; one sister, Annabel Oswald, of Blue Earth, Minn.; one brother, Alfred (Jim) Bosma of Buffalo Center; one sister-in-law, Grace Bosma, of Buffalo Center; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers: Lewis, Ed, Thomas, Heiko, Bert, and Clarence; five sisters, Martha Horton, Lillian Mastin, Esther Mastin, Grace Hassebroek, and Irene Burger; and by sister and brothers-in-law.

CRESCO - Gayle Guthrie, 91, of Cresco, formerly of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away Friday (Sept. 19, 2008) at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
It was Gayle's wishes to be cremated.
No public services will be held.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, an infant daughter and two sisters.
She is survived by her brother, Warren (Lucille) Proctor of Cresco; numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

FOREST CITY - Bonnie Mae Hagen, 80, of Forest City, formerly of Northwood, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral service for Bonnie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Sion Lutheran Church, 4527 Finch Ave., Lake Mills, with the Rev. Daniel R. Hart officiating. Burial will be in Sion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.
Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.
Bonnie Mae Hagen was born on Oct.16, 1927, in Thornton, the daughter of Peter and Cecelia (Bertelsen) Floy. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thornton, and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at United Lutheran Church in Thornton. Bonnie graduated from Thornton Consolidated School class of 1945 and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. Bonnie worked as a secretary for the Hotel Hanford in Mason City and Omaha, Neb., for several years.
Bonnie was united in marriage to Herbert Hagen on March 27, 1956. She entered this union with two daughters, Peggy and Margaret, from a previous marriage. They became a family and farmed in Brookfield Township near Northwood. Later two more daughters were born, Dawn and Ruth. In June 1998, they moved to their home in Northwood. Bonnie lived this last year at Forest Plaza Assisted living in Forest City. Bonnie was a 4-H leader and served on the Worth County Extension Council. Over the years she was a Sunday and Bible school teacher, and a former WELCA President at Sion. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Bonnie enjoyed collecting teacups, quilting, making quilts for all her family, and was a great seamstress, but her greatest love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Peggy Hagen of Eden Prairie, Minn., Margaret (Jack) Harris of Slater, Dawn (Dan) Millard of Fertile, and Ruth Hagen of Joice; grandchildren, Chad (Carrie) Harris of Grimes, Jodi Harris of Des Moines, Jennifer Harris of Coralville, Tara (Birra) Birri of Fertile, and Ivy Millard of Lackland AFB, Texas; great-grandchildren, Robay and Harra Birri of Fertile; a sister, Thelma Nicolet of Belmond; a brother, Charles (Janice) Floy of Hot Springs Village, Ark., a sister-in-law, Judy Hagen of Albert Lea, Minn., and many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband Herbert who died in May 2001; a sister, Seydell Hagen; three brothers-in-law, Lawrence and Richard Hagen and Dwain Nicolet.

NORA SPRINGS - Audrey Vivian Hewitt, 91, died Thursday evening (Sept. 18, 2008) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, located in Nora Springs (641-749-5527). Burial will follow the service.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Nora Springs.
Audrey was born in Cartersville, Iowa, on July 15, 1917, to Benjamin and Anna Deets. She had 13 brothers and sisters, Wilbur, Walter, Eugene, Ward, Virgil, Darrell, Clayton, Emmett, Dollie, Katherine, Anna Belle, Laurine and Mildred.
On July 2, 1936, Audrey wed Edward Hewitt. They had two children, a daughter, Joanne Ranney, and son, Dennis Hewitt.
Audrey was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed quilting, westerns, cards and collecting dolls and antiques. She also had a fond love for her dogs. She was a very caring, loving person and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren where they brought out each others silliness.
Audrey is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents, Benjamin and Anna Deets; several brothers and sisters, and a grandson.
She is survived by two sisters, her daughter, Kenneth and Joanne Ranney, her son, Dennis Hewitt; grandchildren, Susan and Glen Pyle, Cheryl Trappe, Sarah and Russel Bruce, Charlotte Ranney, Adrienne Ranney and Mick Wells; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

TROY, Ohio - Charles Dean Kaster, 51, of Troy, Ohio, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2008) at his home.
Charles Dean was born June 29, 1957, in Mason City to Dorothy Adel (Harrington) Welch of Troy, Ohio, and Jerry Eugene Kaster of Mason City.
He was a member of Koinos Christian Fellowship in Troy.
He was a former cook at Perkins Restaurant in Troy, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Deborah Ann (Rogers) Kaster of Troy, Ohio; one son, Dustin (Claire) Kaster of Winder, Ga.; brothers, Dale Kaster of Troy, Ohio, and Allan Kaster of Mason City; sisters, Carol Penwell of Jefferson, Ohio, Dawn Marie Truijello of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Regina Zircher of Troy, Ohio; four grandchildren, Noah Dean, Aidan Joseph, Jacob Brian and Tyler Chevelle Kaster, all at home in Winder, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Joshua Allen and Jason Dean Kaster.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Baird Funeral Home, 555 N. Market St. in Troy, Ohio, with Pastor Jonathan Newman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Troy.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Luella Zanios Rumeliote, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2008) surrounded by family. Formerly of Mason City, Luella moved to Minneapolis to be close to her dearly loved family.
Preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Costa; parents James and Vasiliki (Bessie) Zanios and nine sisters and brothers, Marie Malakataris, Fala Soumas, Stella Pathoulas, Jean James, George Zanios, Tom Zanios, Gertrude Ringus, Elizabeth Paras and Chris Zanios.
She is survived by her daughters Tena Zahariades, Bloomington, Minn. and Elaine Boosalis (James), Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren Stephanie Stephenson (Sean) of Phoenix, Ariz., Krisanthya Reiman (Dean) of Elk River, Minn., Andrea Pfleider (Greg) of Plymouth, Minn. and Michael Boosalis (Maggie) of San Antonio, Texas; her four precious treasures, great-grandchildren Nicole Zahariades, Reinnen Pfleider, Tatum Pfleider and Samuel Stephenson. She is survived by one sister Helen Berris of Detroit, Mich.
Born Aug. 7, 1917, in Mason City, Luella was one of 11 children. She married Costa D. Rumeliote in October of 1938. Luella and her husband founded Costa's Supper Club in Mason City. After Costa's untimely death in 1955, she continued to operate the club until the late 1960s. She loved her family and enjoyed baking and cooking her special recipes for them and others.
Luella also loved gardening, playing cards with friends and family as well as being active in the hospitality business. She was involved in the Greek Orthodox Church both in Mason City and Minneapolis, and particularly enjoyed St. Mary's Seniors Group. She was limitless in her caring and nurturing.
The family would like to thank everyone at Mount Olivet Home and especially Jeff Schleif and the staff of the third floor, as well as Dr. Jennifer Olson of Park Nicollet Clinic.
A memorial prayer service will be held at 11 a.m today, Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave. S., Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W., Mason City, with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Trisagion prayer services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at the church. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Internment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
