Arthur made many friends over the years with his great humor, big laugh and his enormous generosity. He always made himself available to help people even if they were complete strangers and he was running late. You could always find him with his head under the hood of a car, a wrench in one hand, and a "cold one" (beer) in the other hand. If you were feeling down, he'd cheer you up with a funny joke or a goofy story.

Arthur was a faithful member of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Spanish congregation in Des Moines.

June Ellen Lester, the daughter of Cardis and Maude (Bisgrove) Lester, was born Aug. 20, 1921, on her parents' farm in rural Clarion. As a young child, June was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church. She graduated from Clarion High School in 1939. After her education, June taught country school and worked for a time at a variety store in Clarion.
June was united in marriage to James T. McLaughlin on Nov. 26, 1942, at the Catholic Church in Belmond. Their union was blessed with five children: Phillip, Marlys, Carolyn, LaDonna and Kathy.
After the couple's marriage, June embraced the role of a devoted wife, mother and partner in the operations of the farm with her husband, Jim. She dedicated her energies and love to providing for the needs of her family.
In addition to fulfilling the needs of her family as a nurturing wife and mother, June had been an area salesperson for Avon products for more than 40 years. Her outgoing personality, friendly smile, proficiency and wealth of knowledge of Avon products brought her countless awards and membership in the "President's Club" for many years. Her china cabinets were filled to capacity with beautiful hand-painted dolls, bowls, dishes, goblets, pins, and other figures she received her for her many achievements.
June and her husband enjoyed traveling and had been to many places, including Ireland, Hawaii, Alaska and Las Vegas. In earlier years, June had done some needlework and was an avid bowler, participating in many women's bowling leagues.
She also enjoyed playing the piano, listening to her favorite polka music and attending family gatherings, especially if they included little children. Her children reflect fondly upon Saturday outings with Mom and Dad to the K.C. Hall and Sunday afternoons filled with bowling and pizza. She looked forward to the competition of playing bingo and spending time watching her favorite game shows, which included "The Price is Right," "Wheel of Fortune," and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire."
June was a long-time member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and had been involved in the CDA and Rosary Society there for many years.
As the family reflects on her life and legacy they will cherish her memory as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, one who was always there for them and focused on providing for their needs. She will be missed by all who knew her for her upbeat and welcoming personality, warm smile and the twinkle in her eye.

Stone, Wilbur F.

MASON CITY -Wilbur F. Stone, 94, of Mason City died Tuesday (Nov. 25, 2008) at Good Shepherd Health Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in West Bend Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church. Wilbur Franklin Stone, the youngest of four children, was born May 7, 1914, to John M. and Emma (Lehman) Stone in rural Ottosen. He was raised on a farm graduating, from Ottosen High School in 1931. Wilbur attended the University of Iowa School of Engineering, receiving a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering in February 1937. He was the first boy from Ottosen High School to attend a four-year college.
After graduation, he took a position with General Electric Co. in New York doing product testing and on June 9, 1938, married Blanche Henrikson, who had grown up on a neighboring farm in Ottosen. Wilbur left G.E. in 1939 to join Eastman Kodak in Rochester, N.Y. During the war years, he was maintenance and construction manager for a top-secret development of proximity anti-aircraft shell fuses for the Navy.
After the war, looking for more challenges and a good place to raise his growing family of three children, Wilbur joined the Navy Oil Shale Research Project in Rifle, Colo., advancing to chief of engineering and mechanical services. In 1955, when activity slowed on that project, he returned to Rochester to work again for Eastman Kodak, where he managed large multi-million dollar construction projects outside the city.
In 1964, after four years of night school, Wilbur received an MBA from the University of Rochester. After a 30-year career with Eastman Kodak, Wilbur retired in April 1978. Looking for the perfect place to retire, Blanche and Wilbur selected Mason City, where they enjoyed the friendliness of a smaller community life style closer to their rural roots. A few weeks after celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in 1988, Blanche lost her battle with cancer.
While living in Mason City, Wilbur was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on several boards. His special passion, as reflected in his career, was caring for and maintaining buildings and grounds. He also volunteered at KCMR Radio and Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, using his building and engineering skills whenever he could to bless the community.
Wilbur is survived by a son, Thomas Stone of Columbus, N.D.; daughters, Margaret (Raymond) Doane of San Diego, Calif., and Helen Marie (Michael) Ernst of Carpinteria, Calif.; and an extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Blanche; brothers, Ray and Albert; sister, Margaret Lindgren; and a child in infancy.
Wilbur will be greatly missed; his strength of character, dependability, and goodness of heart were a comfort and inspiration to all those who knew him well. He faithfully supported his family, his friends, his church, and his community, founding his life upon the truth of God's word and the faithfulness of his creator. His legacy will not be forgotten. "A good man leaves an inheritance of moral stability and goodness to his children's children" (Proverbs 13.22, Amplified).
