SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Funeral services for Dorothy Stangler, 86, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, in Spence Chapel at First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Sulphur Springs City Cemetery.


Visitation will be one hour before the service in Spence Chapel.

Louise F. Andersen

 

TITONKA — Louise F. Andersen, 91, of Titonka died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2008) at the Titonka Care Center.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka, with Pastor David Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City.

Marvin V. Smith

 

HAMPTON — Marvin V. Smith, 80, of Hampton, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2008) in Waterloo.

 

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with Pastor Dave Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Lucille Marie Reindl

 

MASON CITY — Lucille Marie Reindl, 93, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Jan. 2, 2008) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Mason City.

 

The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.

 

According to her wishes her body has been cremated.

 

Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Health Center, 302 Second St. N.E., Mason City, IA 50401.

 

Lucille Marie (Jensen) Reindl was born on Aug. 9, 1914, at Mason City, the daughter of Hans Peter Jensen and Edith (Buell) Jensen. She attended Mason City schools.

 

Lucille married Leslie Walter Reindl on March 10, 1932, at Austin, Minn. They moved to Manly, where they lived for several years during which time Lucille raised her family as a loving and caring mother. She became a self-taught, accomplished seamstress as well as a gardener and craftswomen.

 

The family moved back to her hometown of Mason City in 1953 where she preferred to remain for the rest of her days, except for a brief time residing in California with her daughter. Widowed in 1963, Lucille became one of the first residents of Grant Village where she lived for more than 30 years.

 

She continued to sew and to crochet afghans, which she gave away to her family and friends. Lucille enjoyed craftwork along with helping her neighbors by being the person they could give an extra key to for when they locked themselves out of their apartment. Family, friends and acquaintances will remember Lucille for the little things she gave with an open heart.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Reindl McIntire and her husband, Warner, of Sarasota, Fla.; three daughters-in-law: Mary, of Mason City, Rhonda of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Jude of Maine; 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, three nieces, as well as other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, and three sons, Walter, Robert, and Roger.

Myrtle B. Nelson Hanson

 

FOREST CITY — Myrtle B. Nelson Hanson, 87, of Forest City, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2008) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

 

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Pastor Barbara Spaulding officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring at Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 16, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, and an hour prior to service at the church.

 

Myrtle Beatrice Nelson Hanson, the daughter of Baleis A. and Clarissa (Gambell) Simmons, was born on June 18, 1920, in Forest City, Iowa. She attended Madison Country School through eighth grade.

 

She married LeRoy M. Nelson at Bethany, Mo., on Oct. 17, 1942. To this union three children were born: Janice, Jerel and Joyce.

 

Myrtle and LeRoy farmed in the Joice, Lake Mills and Britt areas. They moved to Forest City in 1959 to a house where the nursing home is now located. Myrtle was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, the Rebekah Lodge and the Red Hat Society at the Good Samaritan Center.

 

LeRoy died in 1988. On June 18, 1990, she married Everett Hanson at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He passed away on July 28, 2001.

 

Over the years, Myrtle worked at the Bungalow Cafe, Johnsons Drug, Bills Red Owl and Bills Greenhouse. She also volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center.

 

Myrtle resided at Town Square Apartments in Forest City from 1997 through 2001. She then moved to the Summit House in Britt, where she lived from 2001 to 2006. In February 2006, she entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City where she resided until her death.

 

Myrtle is survived by three children: Janice (James) Kirschbaum, of Crystal Lake, Jerel (Miriam) Nelson, of Omaha, Neb., and Joyce Gradoville, of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Schneckenberger.

 

The family requests memorials be directed to the Good Samaritan Center.

Keith Sander Muchow

 

CLEAR LAKE — Keith Sander Muchow, 73, 5381 S. Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2008) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Tim Diehl officiating.

 

Family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will be at the Postville Cemetery at a later date.

 

Memorials may be given to the Children’s Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

 

Keith was born May 20, 1934, in Postville, the son of Walter R. and Caroline (Sander) Muchow. He graduated from Postville High School. He married Marietta VanWey on Aug. 12, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

 

Keith loved flying. He was a pilot for 52 years, achieving many ratings to become a corporate pilot, retiring December 2004 from Winnebago Industries as their pilot. After retirement, he had continued to fly for many corporations throughout the country. He had flown as recently as two weeks prior to his death. He was a member of the El Kahir Flying Fez and Quiet Birdmen and other flying organizations.

 

Keith is survived by his wife, Marietta Muchow of Clear Lake; five children: Connie Muchow and her husband, Mike Wilson, of Waterloo, Carolyn Muchow of Peoria, Ariz., James Muchow and his wife, Reva, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Lisa King and her husband, Dana, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Scott Muchow of Forest City; four grandchildren: Tyler Wilson, Aubin Wilson, Austin King and Hannah King; two great-grandchildren: Jayden and Jayce Reed; two brothers, Dale Muchow of Brandford, Fla., and Lee Muchow and his wife, Beverly, of Bellflower, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Muchow, of Oklahoma City, Okla.

 

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob Muchow, and sister-in-law Chene Muchow.

Elling D. Goplerud


 

CHARLES CITY — Elling D. Goplerud, 82, of 304 Charles St., Charles City, died on Friday (Jan. 11, 2008) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

 

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag and the Rev. David Werges officiating.

 

Cremation has taken place in the care of Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home.

 

Private family inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery at a later date.

 

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Elling Decker Goplerud was born in Osage on Jan. 10, 1926, to Gerhard and Vesta (Decker) Goplerud. Following his graduation from the Osage High School, Elling was inducted into the Army Infantry, 41st Division on July 29, 1944. He served with the Phillipine Liberation Army and immediately thereafter with the Army of occupation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

 

Following his honorable discharge in 1946 he worked briefly at Oliver Farm Equipment in Charles City before attending Barber College in Cedar Rapids. Elling began his 58-year barbering career in Lawler, before moving to Charles City.

 

On June 10, 1951, he was united in marriage to Helen Nysven in Strum, Wis. They were blessed with three children, Gregg of Cedar Falls, Brad (Donna) of Elgin, Ill. and Rebecca (Rick Carrillo) of Rock Springs, Wyo.

 

Elling was known by many as the “cookie man” because of his love for baking and candy making and sharing with others. His roses and flower gardens were also enjoyed by many. He enjoyed his golfing and coffee buddies, playing cards and bingo, tole painting and crafts. In earlier years he was active in the American Legion, Jaycees, Sons of Norway, the Sheriffs’ Reserve and many church activities.

 

Elling is survived by his wife, Helen; their children and three grandchildren, Matthew, Amy and Kathryn “Katie” Goplerud; his sister, Norma Cummins of Kendal, England; a sister-in-law, Alyce Goplerud of Asheville, N.C.; seven stepbrothers and sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

Those preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Sterling Goplerud; and brother-in-law, Andrew Cummins.

Richard Mennen

 

MASON CITY — Richard Mennen, 84, of Mason City died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2008) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

 

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

 

A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Mark Mennen and Vickie Smidt Mennen Memorial Scholarship.

 

Richard Henry Mennen was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Aplington, the son of Ecko and Florence (Deters) Mennen. After attending school, Richard joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving with the Asiatic Fleet during World War II on USS Blackhawk.

 

On June 20, 1948, he married Dixie Ann Geiler at the Grace Evangelical Church (now Grace United Methodist Church) in Mason City. He attended carpenter school after he returned from the service and worked for several contractors until his retirement. He was recalled to service during the Korean War and served aboard the U.S.S. Rendova, an aircraft carrier. He was an active member of both the Badra Group ship reunion and the U.S.S. Rendova reunions.

 

Richard is survived by his wife, Dixie Mennen, of Mason City, one son, Paul J. Mennen, of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, Emily N. Chambers and husband, Byron, of Dallas, Texas, Eric C. Mennen and wife, Amanda, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Keri Bearden and husband Jim, of Leeds, Ala.; two great-grandchildren: twins Lauren and Tyler Chambers of Carrollton, Texas; two brothers: Ecko Mennen and wife, Helen, of Waterloo, and Cecil Mennen and wife, Evelyn, of Columbus Junction; five sisters: Elva Drier of Waterloo, Eunice Kuhn of Charles City, Imogene Moyle and husband, Hartford, of Springfield, Mo., Delores Herington and husband, Bob, of Cedar Rapids, and Rosalind Andreasen and husband, Terry, of Waterloo; and one brother-in-law, Vae Geiler of Sun City, Ariz. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by one son, Mark G. Mennen; his parents and grandparents; daughter-in-law Vickie Smidt Mennen; two sisters: Florence Janssen and Gertrude Neymeyer; one brother, Gordon C. Mennen; father and mother-in-law, Karl and Florence Geiler; two nieces, one nephew and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

GARNER — Ruby M. Lackore, 91, of Garner died Monday (Jan. 14, 2008) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Janette A. Blanchard


 

Janette A. (Dickerson) Blanchard, 65, of Newton, Iowa, died Monday (Jan. 14, 2008) in Newton.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

 

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

 

Memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

 

The daughter of Lawrence and Lucille (Murphy) Dickerson, Janette was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Webster City. She grew up in the Clear Lake/Mason City area, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1961. She married Paul G. Blanchard on Jan. 4, 1964, in Mason City.

 

Janette moved to Newton in 1965 and worked as a nurse’s aide for 18 years. After retiring from the hospital, she worked at the Hallmark store. Janette was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

 

She enjoyed knitting, planting and tending to her flowers and reading. She and her husband grew vegetables and had a large garden. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.

 

Survivors include her son, Paul A. (Kelly) Blanchard of Newton; two daughters: Anna (Larry) Pietz of Newton and Sharon (Brian) Mumm of Bloomington, Wis.; four grandchildren: Margaret Ann and James Michael Pietz, and Nicholas Brian and Logan Thomas Mumm; a brother, Gary (Susan) Dickerson of Eldora; sister, Connie (Don) Roberts of Waverly; her special friend, Marlys Strike; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Janette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul in 2003; brother, Larry Dickerson; sister, Kaye Trampel; and nephews, Darren Dickerson and Blake Blanchard.

BRISTOW — Louise M. Schrage Wubbena, 90, formerly of Bristow, died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2008) at the Allison Care Center.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 Friday, Jan. 18, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Vilmar, Rural Greene, with Pastor Mark Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag and the Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City. Military honors will be accorded by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Ruby M. Lackore

GARNER — Ruby M. Lackore, 91, of Garner, died Monday (Jan. 14, 2008) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Ruby Marie Lackore, the daughter of Gustav and Lydia (Hesley) Schramm, was born Oct. 11, 1916, on a farm northwest of Garner. She graduated from Ventura High School in 1934. Following high school, she worked on the farm with her sister and brother-in-law. Ruby studied art and professionally hand colored photographs for local portrait studios. On April 23, 1973, she was married to Clark P. Lackore in Mason City. Ruby enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and reading.

 

She was a 4-H Leader, Ventura Garden Club member, volunteer for Duncan Heights and Opportunity Village and was a nominee from Hancock County to the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame in 1991. She had served as Hancock County Soil Conservation District Commissioner, was the Hancock County Farm Bureau Women’s Chairperson for many years and was active in her political party.

 

She is survived by five great-nieces and their families, Lesley Lackore of Ames, Joleen (Kevin) Smith and their two daughters, Abbie and Claire, of Belmond, Cheryl (Mark) Garrett and her son, Brenton Lackore, of Clear Lake, Rachelle (Rick) Klassen and their son, Jacob, of Palm Desert, Calif., and Raleene (Doug) Munsen of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a niece, Doreen (Richard) Johnson of Garner.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clark; two sisters, Floy Lackore and Evelyn Schramm; and a nephew, Doran (Betty) Lackore.

CHARLES CITY — The Rev. Oliver Brewer, 94, of Charles City, died Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2008) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

 

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd with Pastor LaVonne Kaasa officiating. Burial will be in Freemont Cemetery, Tripoli.

Louise M. Schrage Wubbena

 

BRISTOW — Funeral services for Louise M. Schrage Wubbena, 90, formerly of Bristow, will be 10:30 Friday, Jan. 18, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar, rural Greene, with Pastor Mark Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 17, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. in Greene, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

 

Louise Marie Schrage was born June 29, 1917, the daughter of Henry C. and Marie (Wiegmann) Schrage near Allison, and died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2008) at the Allison Care Center.

 

She was baptized at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at Vilmar and received her education in the West Point Township country school. She was united in marriage to Reiner Oltman Wubbena on Nov. 28, 1936, at the St. James Lutheran parsonage in Allison. To this union six children were born.

 

Louise and Reiner farmed in rural Butler County until 1942, when they purchased their own farm near Dumont. They started Wubbena Produce in 1947, which they operated until the early 1960s when they sold it to their son James. In 1964, they started R & L Grocery which they ran until their retirement in 1976. After Reiner’s death on Feb. 13, 1984, Louise became care giver for Eldon Diehl until his death. Louise made her home at the Elm Springs Assisted Living for a short time before becoming a resident at the Allison Health Care Center in January 2006.

 

She enjoyed reading, embroidering, and making quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved making bread for her family and friends as long as her health allowed.

 

Louise will be sadly missed by her children, James and Betty Lou (Bruns) Wubbena of Bristow, Janice (Wubbena) Waterman of Waterloo, Robert and Joan (Mueller) Wubbena of Olympia, Wash., Roger and Patricia (Broderick) Wubbena of Madison, S.D., Charles and Bette Ann (Schoneman) Wubbena of Waterloo, and Dennis and Jodi (Henrichs)Wubbena of Springfield, Mo.; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, nine stepgreat-grandchildren, three stepgreat-great-grandchildren. There is one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild that are on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Laura Oltman of the Allison Care Center; sisters-in-law, Edna Schrage of Allison and Helen Wubbena Tjebkes of Dumont; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She leaves to join her husband, parents, her sister, Erna Rodenbeck Lawyer; and her brothers, Alfred and Raymon Schrage; and her grandson, Tim Waterman.

MANLY — Tom E. Coyle, 46, of 3670 Raven Ave., died Tuesday (Jan.15, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

 

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating.

 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Tom E. Coyle Memorial Fund.

MANLY — Tom E. Coyle, 46, of 3670 Raven Ave, died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth. 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tom E. Coyle Memorial Fund.

Tom Eugene Coyle was born on Jan. 30, 1961, the son of John and Frances (Schumacher) Coyle at Mason City. He grew up in Manly and attended Manly Schools, graduating from North Central Manly with the Class of 1979. 

Following high school, Tom moved to Wyoming to work the oil fields. While there he met his wife, Robin. On May 17, 1986 he was united in marriage to Robin Hiller at Colman, S.D.

Tom and Robin lived briefly in Washington State before returning home to Manly where they raised their three children.

Tom was recently working for Dohrn Transfer and also doing grain bin construction and repair, where he met and developed friendships with many farmers.

An avid sports enthusiast, Tom enthusiastically followed the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings, high school wrestling and especially enjoyed watching his children participate in sports.

 

Tom was instrumental in starting the youth wrestling program at Central Springs as well as being active in the Central Springs Booster Club.

 

Tom was a member of the Worth County Fence stretchers, Central Springs Booster Club, and an active member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church.

 

Tom is survived by his wife, Robin, of Manly; his children: John, Sarah, and Dylan, all of Manly; his mother, Frances, of Manly; his father and mother-in-law, Darrell and Naomi Hiller, of Colman, S.D.; his siblings, De (Howard) Nilson, of Rapid City, S.D., Kate Coyle, of Cedar Rapids, Mary Jo Baumann, of Manly, John Coyle, of Coeur’d’Alene, Joe Coyle, of Manly, Ann (Joe) Determan, of Mason City; brothers and sisters-in-law: Peggy (Pat) Baldwin, of Mesa, Ariz., Bill (Annie) Hiller, of Rock Valley, James (Jen) Hiller, of Colman, S.D., as well as many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

THORNTON — Grace Pauline Jones, 85, 309 Willow St. in Thornton, died Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2008) at her home.

Grace was born Oct. 23, 1922, in New Richland, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Justine (Weber) Weydert. She graduated from Presentation Academy, Whittemore, in 1939. She worked in Fort Dodge as a cashier for the movie theater.

 

Grace married Joseph F. Jones Aug. 24, 1943, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake. They farmed in the Emmetsburg area before moving to Clear Lake in 1944.

 

They lived several places, including Arizona, Mason City, Rockwell, Fertile and back to Clear Lake in 1962. In 1979 they moved to Thornton.

 

Grace enjoyed spending their winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. She worked at the Mirror Reporter and the Globe Gazette in advertising.

 

She was very involved in church. Grace sang with the Keynotes, loved to play bingo, and dance. She enjoyed arts and crafts, growing flowers, and walking. She was very active in the Democratic Party.

 

She taught CCD, sang in the choir and was a lecturer for church. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was active in the ACCD — women’s Catholic group.

 

Grace is survived by her husband, Joseph Jones, of Thornton; two daughters, Judy Veselis and her husband Robert, of Thornton, and Nikki Cook and her husband, Dennis, of Thornton; three grandchildren, Chad Cook and his wife, Lisa, Lori Cook-Thomas and her husband, Prentice, and Scot Cook and his wife, Jill; six great-grandchildren, Steven Cook, Suzanne Cook, Jayson Cook, Collin Cook, Joshua Henley and Sophia Cook; three sisters, Pauline Quinn, Evansville, Minn., Barbara Haliday and her husband Bill, of Osage, and Jacqueline Quinn and her husband, Francis, of Ventura; and one brother, Simon Weydert and his wife Phyllis, of Rockwell.

 

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Peggy Ann and Suzanne Jones; and a brother, Marvin Weydert.

HANLONTOWN — Richard E. Brattrud, 69, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Grace Lutheran Church, 302 E. Fourth St. in Hanlontown, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Brush Point Cemetery, rural Hanlontown.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Bride Colonial Chapel 110 E. Spring St. in Manly, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Richard was born Dec. 25, 1938, in Sioux City, the son of Helen Brattrud and grandson of Henry and Gertrude Brattrud. He graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1958. Richard began working with his uncle in 1958 in the television and appliance business. In 1964, Richard took ownership of Brattrud Appliance. He worked until the time of his death.

He enlisted into the National Guard Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1972, serving on active duty from 1966-1967.

Richard was united in marriage to Jean Albrecht on July 25, 1971; to this union three children were born.

Richard’s hobbies included snowmobiling, skiing, four-wheeling, traveling, spending time in Frederic, Wis., at the cabin, and he loved music and dancing. His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.

He was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving as a volunteer fireman for 30 years, city council member for 30 years, church council, Community Club for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Brattrud of Hanlontown; children, Peter (Delora) Brattrud of Hanlontown, Kerry (Jeff) Brown of Folsom, Calif., and Phillip Brattrud and special friend, Paula Moon, of Hanlontown; grandchildren, Emeny and Lydia Brattrud; brother, Dan (Devra) Hanson Sioux Falls, S.D.; half brothers and sisters, Burton (Barbara) TeKippe of Mason City, Diane (Ron) Romig of Johnston, Sandy (Gary) Paulsen of Mason City, Michael (Victoria) TeKippe of Mason City, and Christina (Curt) Trebil of Mason City; stepmother, Gladys Hanson of Lake Mills; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, mother, step-father Harvey Hanson, and uncle Kelly Brattrud.

Staff Sgt. Sean Michael Gaul

RENO, Nev. — Staff Sgt. Sean Michael Gaul, 29, of Reno, Nev., formerly of Cresco, was killed in action Jan. 9, 2008, in Sinsil, Iraq.

Sean was born June 26, 1978, to Christine M. Minear and Michael F. Gaul. He moved to the Reno area as a child in 1985. He attended local schools and was a member of JROTC at Reed High School. He joined the U.S. Army in November 1999. He was a career soldier first, serving with B Co. 1/505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. He then transferred to a Stryker brigade at Fort Lewis, Wash., and currently was stationed in Vilseck, Germany, as a recon platoon squad leader. He attended Ranger School, Sniper School, and was also trained as a paramedic. This was his fifth deployment.

Sean was a very enthusiastic athlete. He trained in kenpo, aikido and ninjitsu. He ran many races, participated in triathlons, biked, swam and loved to hike. He loved the outdoors.

Sean was a family man. Married in June 2000, he is survived by his wife, Jessica L.H. Gaul, and daughter of Reno, Nev. His love for work was second only to his joy while being home. He will also be missed by his mother, Christine Minear, and two sisters of Sparks, Nev.; his father, Michael Gaul, and two sisters of Nora Springs; one maternal grandparent and both paternal grandparents, seven uncles, nine aunts, numerous cousins; much family and many friends.

An incredible man and grandfather, Irvin J. Minear, and cherished baby boy, Ian Michael Gaul, precede him in death.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. Rose of Lima, Reno, Nev.

Clementine Beatrice Meier was born in Howard County, Iowa on April 26, 1918, the daughter of Lewis and Louise (Shimek) Maravetz.

On June 18, 1940, Clementine was united in marriage to Arnold Meier at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. After their marriage, they farmed north of Elma.

Clementine is survived by her three children: Eugene of Decorah, Dorothy (Lawrence) Schmitt of Riceville, and Allen (Ellen) of Mason City; four grandsons; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie (Leo) Weber of Charles City and Evelyn (Richard) Nicholson of Osage; two brothers, Arnold Maravetz of Elma, and Raphael (Anna) Maravetz of Riceville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold on Jan. 22, 2005; and sister-in-law, Bernie Maravetz.

Adelaide ‘Audy’ Thea Winden

LAKE MILLS — Adelaide “Audy” Thea Winden, 80, of Lake Mills, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor W. Paul Weeg officiating.

Adelaide (Audy) Thea Winden was born Nov. 8, 1927, near Scarville, to John T. and Clara O. (Kobbervig) Folken. She attended and graduated from Scarville High School in 1945.

On Feb. 15, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lewine McKee. To this union two children were born, Lon and Peg. Lewine (Mac) passed away on Nov. 24, 1974.

On June 26, 1976, Audy married Wallace Winden in Minneapolis, Minn.

Audy enjoyed playing bridge, reading and most of all, spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed baking sweets for those she loved.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace Winden of Lake Mills; her two children, Lon (Cindy) McKee and Peg McKee, all of Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren, Bart (Sarah) McKee of Shakopee, Minn., Kelly (Scott) Parrish of Rockville, Md., and Meredith Westin of Minneapolis, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Bryson Parrish and Margaret McKee; sisters-in-law, Clarine (Duke) Moe of Lake Mills and Harriet Winden of Fertile; brother-in-law, Wayne McKee of California; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viola (Spillett) Awe

MASON CITY — Viola (Spillett) Awe, 87, a resident of the IOOF Home in Mason City and formerly of 10912 250th St., Clear Lake, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2008) at the IOOF Home.

Viola (Spillett) Awe was born July 11, 1920, in Thompson, the first child born to William and Crystal (Ball) Spillett.

Viola was employed at Nicholas Turkey Farm and Risto Manufacturing, but her most important job was “being the glue that held the family together.” She spent most of her life helping to raise her nephews and nieces, Allen Awe of Rockwell, Terry Awe, Dawn Ferch and Elaine Tyler, all of Mason City, Debbie Piper of Decorah, and John Awe of Rockwell, by whom she is survived. Vi is also survived by a nephew, Ronnie Kavars of Dubuque. “Warden Vi,” as she was fondly called, worked hard to keep all the kids in line, both young and old. Eighteen great-nieces and nephews lives’ were also touched by Aunt Vi. Seventeen great-great-nephews and nieces will have to learn about Vi from the wonderful memories she has placed in the hearts of those who knew her.

When the family moved to “the farm” in the early 1970’s, it became the weekly meeting place for everyone and their extended families. No one was ever turned away from the farm. We are thankful that our family got to really know each other and grow together there.

Vi was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Darlene Schellsmidt and Lillian Hoffman; one brother, Chuck Spillett; a niece; a great-great nephew and niece.

After a private family viewing, cremation will take place.

Memorial services will take place at a later date with inurnment at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Mary Lou is survived by 10 nieces, 10 nephews and their families; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Kisner, Mitchell, and Shirley Newhouse, Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clint Kisner, Ray Kisner and Tim Kisner and wife, Marce.

Sandra K. ‘Sandy’ Hadacek

MASON CITY — Sandra K. “Sandy” Hadacek, 41, of 603 S. Massachusetts Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 17, 2008) at her home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2008) at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. Paul C. Nelson and the Rev. Jeni Bohls officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Sandra Kay Hadacek was born June 10, 1966, at Mason City, a daughter of Francis and LuAnn (Waage) Hadacek.

She attended Rockwell-Swaledale Community Schools. Sandy was a stay-at-home mom caring for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed watching her son Skylar’s activities.

She is survived by her parents, Francis and LuAnn Hadacek, Mason City; fiancé, Ty Watt, Mason City; son, Skylar Watt, Mason City; daughter, Mikala Wilson and her husband, Quinton, Waverly; grandson, Alexander Wilson, Waverly; step-children, Kelsey Stricker, Waterloo, Ashley Watt, Clear Lake, and Tyler Watt, Clear Lake; four brothers, Pat Hadacek, Mark Hadacek and friend, Sharla, Brad Hadacek and friend, Sue, and Ronald Hadacek and his wife, Teresa, all of Mason City; a sister, Rebecca Hadacek and her friend, Matt Roath, Mason City.

Her grandparents and two sisters, Brenda and Vicki Hadacek, preceded her in death.

Ruth Hannam

OSAGE — Ruth Hannam, age 88, of Osage, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2008) at Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Osage with the Rev. Steven M. Kellett and the Rev. Rick Magstadt officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour before services at the church.

Ruth was born Aug. 15, 1919, near Osage, the daughter of Lewis and Ellen (Nelson) Myrtle. Ruth taught in rural schools in the Osage area. She married Robert Hannam on Jan. 2, 1945, in Osage. They lived in Osage all of their married life. Robert died Nov. 27, 1990. Ruth was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was one of the founding families of the church. She was also a member of the Cedar Valley retired school personnel.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Carol (Bob) Chapman of St. Paul Park, Minn., and children, DeeAnn, Perry and Brad, Jean (Dan) Kringle of Cottage Grove, Minn., and children, Laura, Amy and Austin; two sons, Philip Hannam of Bloomington, Minn., and children, Marissa, Joelle and Christiana; Dean (Diana) Hannam of Houston, Texas, and children, Jeffrey and Jason; seven great-grandchildren, Josiah, Elliana, Hope, Peyton, Kinsley, Camille and Scarlett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a sister, Grace Gilbert; a brother, Owen Myrtle; and a daughter-in-law, Claudelle Hannam.

IOWA FALLS — Robert F. Woods, 82, of Iowa Falls, passed away Thursday (Jan. 17, 2007) at Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Funeral service for Robert Woods will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Linn’s Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls, with Pastors Tara Amundson and T. J. Norman officiating. Burial will follow at the Hampton City Cemetery, Hampton.

A time of visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

MASON CITY — There will be a celebration of Donna R. Winter’s life from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the home of her daughter, Denise Hansen, 201 23rd St. S.W. in Mason City.

Donna R. Winter, 80, of Mason City, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
