Prescott, Dean J.

KLEMME - Dean J. Prescott, 45, of Klemme died unexpectedly Monday (Aug. 18, 2008) at his home in Klemme.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the Klemme United Methodist Church with Pastor Eric Williams of the Evangelical Free Church of Garner and Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Andrews Funeral Home, 528 E. Main, Klemme, and continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at church.
Memorials may be directed to Dean's family or to the donor's choice.
Dean James Prescott, the son of Clayton and Beverly (Tanner) Prescott, was born Nov. 25, 1962, at Britt. As a young person he was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Klemme.
During his childhood and early teenage years, Dean was very adventurous and enjoyed many activities including racing about on mini-bikes, motor scooters and three-wheelers with his siblings and friends. He very much enjoyed times spent in the oudoors. At the age of 14 he suffered injuries from an accidental gunshot that phyically impaired him for the remainder of his life journey.
Dean continued his education and graduated from Klemme High School with the Class of 1982. He later worked for a time at Korbert in Klemme.
As the years of Dean's life went by he became a devoted and loving caregiver to his mother, Bev, as she was widowed for many years following her husband's passing, Dean and his mom became very close as they looked after each other. Following his mom's stroke and declining health and eventually her move to the Concord Care Center in Garner, Dean continued to focus his attention on her needs and made many treks to visit her.
Being alone for several years after Bev moved to the care center he became a little more reserved and to himself, spending more his time focusing his attention on his Dobermans, his homing pigeons and cockatiels.
Several years ago, he met his Sheila Orense, and their seven-year long-distance relationship eventually developed into their marriage on Feb. 7, 2006, in Garner. Following their marriage Dean's life and energy for adventures and travel was rekindled.
Dean and Sheila had enjoyed each other's companionship as they traveled to various events and happenings such as the Tulip Festival in Pella, Hill Billy Sales in Fort Dodge, Hobo Days in Britt and to the Grotto of The Redemption in West Bend.
Dean also enjoyed fishing trips to Ventura and taking his wife to work when the need arose. He was looking forward to the new freedoms that would come with his recently purchased van. Dean and Sheila had made many more plans and dreams for the years to come.
Dean's recently renewed outlook on life could be seen in his passion for Harley Davidson cycles. He had looked foward to someday restoring a 1948 street bike that he owned. He loved classic rock music and spending some time tinkering around on his computer.
His love of hunting and the outdoors shined through even as recently as this past fall when one might find him out on a Klemme area country road in his wheelchair, shotgun in hand and his dog at his side in an effort to bag a pheasant.
Dean was a longtime member of the Klemme United Methodist Church and for the last couple of years he and Sheila had belonged to the Evangelical Free Church in Garner.
Dean's presence will be missed in the lives of his loving wife, Sheila, of Klemme; his mother, Beverly Prescott, of Garner; his brothers, Bill (Peggy) Prescott of Thompson, Jim (Rosalie) Prescott and Sid (Julie Haugen) Cuellar, all of Klemme, "Junior" Clayton (Roberta) Prescott of Garner, and Ron (Jolene) Prescott of Des Moines; two uncles: George Tanner of Garner, and Walter Tanner of Mason City; an aunt, Lorraine, of Minnesota,; also many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and his dog, Kata.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Prescott, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

The family of Kathryn Maureen Mensch has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the family in her memory.

Maureen was born on April 29, 1923, in Ruthven, the daughter of William (Bill) and Agnes (McCarty) O'Brien. The family moved to Mason City when she was 5 years old, where she attended St. Joseph's Catholic Schools in Mason City, graduating in 1941.

On Jan. 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to John Edward "Jack" Mensch. After Jack's discharge from the Navy, he returned to Iowa. Kathryn and Jack raised their family of five children in Plymouth before moving to Waterloo in 1965.

Maureen's children, her family and church were her life. She was involved in many charitable groups and her kindness and concern were obvious. No one touched by her good works and generous heart could deny that she lived her life with dignity and grace. Her faith was shown in her acts as well as her words.

Some of her other favorite things to do were gardening, duplicate bridge with Jack and with her friends during the week, taking trips with family and friends, making her outstanding potato salad, and baking her very special chocolate chip cookies for her children and grandchildren. Anyone coming to visit could count on a bag of chocolate chip cookies for the ride home.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathy (Gene) Watson, of Manly, Anne (Denny) Muehlstedt, of Clear Lake, and Jean Welsford, of Muskego, Wis.; and her son, Jerry, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Linda, Patricia, William, Laura, Julia, D.J., Amy and Joel; and 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty (Alvin) Halverson of Mason City, as well as other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; and beloved son, Tom; brothers, Jack and Marc; and sister, Janice,

The Crown

A golden crown will adorn your brow,

If to God you will humbly bow,

Jesus paid it all for you and me.

He suffered and died upon a tree.

Let's not be weary in doing well,

But tell them about Jesus, their escape from Hell,

Lend a hand to pull them in,

Jesus blood will cleanse them from sin.

Welcome home Jesus will say,

Your name is in the book, you're here to stay,

There is your home just down the street,

And you kneel down and lay your crown at His feet.

She continued her post secondary education at the University of Northern Colorado where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Home and Health Care Administration in 1976. Priscilla had fulfilled the role of philanthropic chair for the Alpha Z Delta Sorority of the college for many years.

Priscilla later spent several years raising and caring for the needs of her children, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Mary Fletcher. In addition to her roles as a mother and in her profession, Priscilla was very active in her civic life as well. She was a life long member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and had been an active member of Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Kiwanis, and gave of her time to her community in many other ways. She also enjoyed times spent traveling, especially along the back roads of life. The family reflects back on many journeys between their years in Tucson, Ariz., and the Black Hills. They also remember many trips with mom to the consignment shops, her love of times spent "junking" and her fondness for antiquing. Priscilla also enjoyed her cats and shopping excursions in general. She was very proud of her new granddaughter, Stella.

Those who had the opportunity to cross Priscilla's path during her life will always remember her unique personality and humor, great leadership skills, strong independence, and her warm and caring focus on the needs of others.
