Ann
Cooper
was born
May 22,
1918, in
Summersville,
Mo., to
George
and
Minnie
(Spencer)
Cooper.
After
completing
her
education,
Ann
moved to
St.
Louis,
Mo.,
where
she
worked
as a
seamstress
in a
dress
factory.
When
World
War II
started
she went
to work
for
McCray
Norris
inspecting
bullets
for the
war.
Shortly
after
the war
ended
she met
Johan L.
Pals and
they
were
married
on Jan.
25,
1947.
They
moved to
Belmond

Ann was
a

always
placing
the
needs of
others
before
her own.
Many
friends
and
extended
family
members
remember
wonderful
meals
and
fellowship
at her
home. No
visitor
ever
left her
home
hungry
as there
was
always a
meal and
dessert
for all.
She
lovingly
planted,
grew and
canned
everything
she
prepared.
Ann
loved
sewing
and
making
handmade
crafts.
She was
an
accomplished
seamstress
and
worked
at
Winnebago
Stitchcraft
for 15
years
before
retiring
in 1984.
Ann
found
beauty
in
everyday
life.
Her home
was
never
complete
without
a
bouquet
of fresh
flowers
she had
grown.
Her
faith
was very
important
to her
and she
enjoyed
attending
services
and
sharing
fellowship
at the
Church
of
Christ
in
Clarion
for the
past 60
years.
Ann is
survived
by her
three
children:
Beverly
(Brian)
O’Donnell
of
Wisconsin
Rapids,
Wis.,
Susan
(Ted)
Long of
Leawood,

(Darlene

of

Dorothy Jean Revland, the daughter of Carl and Alma (Gehring) Bahling, was born in Algona, on Aug. 2, 1920. In 1936, at the age of 16, she graduated from Lake Mills High School. Following high school, Dorothy attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and that same year, attained her Normal Certificate. Dorothy taught at the rural Lake Mills school from 1937 until 1942.
Dorothy was united in marriage to John Helmer Revland, Sr., on June 30, 1942 in LeGrand. The newly married couple lived in eastern Iowa, where John was working construction. While living in Mount Vernon, John chose to accept a new job position in Charles City, where the couple has resided since 1949. Dorothy’s beloved, John, died on July 28, 2003, following 61 years of marriage.
Dorothy was well-known for her meticulous ironing ability. She ironed articles of clothing for numerous families in the community and also babysat for local children. Dorothy later was employed at J.C. Penney’s in Charles City in the catalog department for 10 years.
Dorothy was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and a former member of the St. John’s Women’s Circle and the Women’s International Bowling Association.
Dorothy is described as a very intelligent woman who truly enjoyed the “simple pleasures of life!” She lived daily by the standard of “less is more!” Dorothy always had a kind word for all and when her children needed advice, they “went to Mom.” Dorothy treasured her vacation bus trips and time spent with John, embroidery, creating hand-sewn sequin calendars to give as gifts, bowling, reading, letter writing and playing cards, especially “500” and euchre. She was a great cook and cookie baker and a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Many will recall Dorothy’s fascination with the cardinal. She not only loved watching for a cardinal to occasionally fly into her yard, but also collected anything that reminded her of her favorite bird.
Dorothy will be fondly cherished in the hearts of all who shared in her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Gary) Hickle of Floyd; her son, John (Jenean) Reveland, Jr. of Charles City; her sister, Patty (Clyde) Hutchinson of Clear Lake; her granddaughter, Jessica Reveland; her two grandsons, Allan Reveland and Curtis (Tracy) Hickle; her five great-granddaughters: Katie, Mattie, Ellie and Emmy Hickle and Morgan Booth and her two great-grandsons: Matthew Hickle and John Thomas Reveland. Dorothy will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Dorothy in death are her husband, John Revland, Sr.; and her parents, Carl and Alma Bahling.
