He was

U.S.
Army
from
1956 to
1962 as
a medic.
He was a
member
of the
Zion
Lutheran
Evangelical
Church
where he
was past
president,
and
participated
in the
mens
breakfast,
sang in
the
choir,
participated
in Bell
Choir
and
volunteered
for
community
meals.
He was a
lifetime
member
of the
Moose
Lodge.
He was a
former
member
of the
Prince
of Peace
Lutheran
Church
in Omaha
where he
was the
past
president
and
served
many
other
roles.

parade.
They
were
later
married
at Holy
Family
Catholic
Church
in Mason
City, on
Oct. 6,
1951. He
was a
member
of the
Knights
of
Columbus,
the BPO
Elks and
The
American
Legion.
He was
an
active
member
at St.
Timothy
Catholic
Church.
He spent
his
business
career
as a
sales
supervisor
for the
Clear
Lake
Bakery
(Clear
Lake,
Iowa),
Alstadt

Langlas
Bakery
(Waterloo,
Iowa)
and
Rainbow

Ariz.).
Since
his
retirement
he
enjoyed

time

MARBLE ROCK — Funeral services for Harold E. Ott, 80, of 534 College St., Marble Rock, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 8, at Calvary Baptist Church, 312 S. Main in Greene, with Pastor Dan Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford St., Marble Rock.
Harold Eugene Ott was born May 6, 1927, in rural Dougherty, Bennezette Township, Butler County, a son of Roy Conrad and Easter March (Hill) Ott, and died Tuesday (June 5, 2007) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
He received his education in rural Butler County schools and attended Greene High School. As a young man he farmed with his father, with other area farmers, and was engaged in trucking. He later worked for the Oliver Tractor Works between farming seasons.
On Sept. 15, 1946, he was united in marriage to Matilda Elizabeth Love in Charles City. They started farming in the rural Dougherty area where they remained for two years.
From 1949 to 1953 he worked for Oliver full time and later drove truck for McCoy and Cordell Trucking companies, both of Charles City. In 1958 he started trucking on his own.
He returned to farming in 1966 west of Marble Rock, where he remained until his retirement in 1989. Harold and Matilda moved to the Palmetto and Bradenton areas of Florida in 1994. They returned to Nora Springs in 1999 and finally moved into their new home in Marble Rock in 2003.
Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 14. He was a member of the former Bethel Baptist Church in Marble Rock; and in recent years attended Calvary Baptist Church in Greene.
His interests included golfing, bowling, deep-sea fishing, and repairing bicycles.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Matilda; two sons, Jerry (Linda) Ott and David (Beth) Ott, all of Marble Rock; six grandchildren, Melissa (Delmar) Fenton of Rockford, Angela (Brian Keith) Ott of Marble Rock, Amy (Josh) Anderson of St. Charles, Nathan (Carrie) Ott of Mason City, Kevin (Angela) Ott of Slater, Cory (Calli) Ott of Des Moines; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister: Gladys Bennett, of Atlanta, Ga.; five brothers, Malcom (Katherine) Ott of Rockford, Richard (Mary) Ott of Greene, Jim (Louise) Ott of Rockford, Don (Delores) Ott of Sarasota, Fla., and Larry (Sharon) Ott of Rockford.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, Mary Taylor, Grace Howe, Evelyn Anderson, Lois Abbott, Eunice Ott and Ila Ott; one brother, Homer Ott; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Fenton, and Anthony Keith.

John Edward Rozen
John, 45, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Mason City, passed away Sunday (June 3, 2007). John was born the fifth child to the late Keith and Madonna Rozen on Oct. 13, 1961.
While attending public school in Mason City, he was employed by S&R Chevrolet and later went on to graduate from the Dakota County Vocational School in Minneapolis, Minn., to pursue a career as a welder and ironworker in Orlando in 1984.
Wherever John traveled, he carried with him a sharp wit, a playful smile, and a sensitive, caring heart. An avid lover of nature and the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing and being around animals, as well as working in the sun.
Always an open, inviting spirit, he could engage anyone in conversation, and was ready and willing to grill anyone a spectacular T-bone steak.
John’s warm-hearted personality could part the greyest of skies, casting light on everyone near and dear.
John is preceded in death by his brother, Samuel, and survived by his eldest sister and cherished friend, René Rozen of Florida; his sister Connie Carlberg, of Florida; sister, Elizabeth Michaels and husband, Barry, of Nebraska; sister, Margaret Rozen and husband, Jim Klein, of Oregon; nieces, Sara Rozen and Danielle Michaels; nephews, David Rozen, Samuel Rozen and Sayer Rozen Klein; uncle, Harry Rozen and wife, Marie, of Clear Lake; uncle, Francis Rozen, of Mason City; sister-in-law, Janis Maroney; and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held at his home in Florida. A prayer service will be arranged at a later date in Mason City.

Roger E. Peterson
Roger E. Peterson, 81, of La Crosse, Wis., passed away Wednesday (June 6, 2007) at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Lake Mills to Russell D. and Clara (Reveland) Peterson. Russell is a 1944 graduate of Lake Mills High School. He then served four years in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre as a pharmacist mate. Roger was very proud of the fact that his tour of duty involved helping injured and dying soldiers.
On Nov. 1, 1952, he married Marion Miller in Winona, Minn. Roger was employed with Dairyland Power as superintendent of heavy maintenance for 39 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a lifetime member of the Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 and a member of the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, both of La Crosse. Roger was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Masonic Frontier Lodge No. 45 F & AM of La Crosse.
Survivors include his wife, Marion, of La Crosse, Wis.; one daughter, Lea Ann (Greg) Bubnich, of Madison, Wis.; four sons: Barry (Sharon) Peterson, of Grand Forks, N.D., Russell (Barbie) Peterson, of La Crosse, Wis., David Peterson, of Coon Valley, Wis., and Bill Peterson of La Crosse, Wis.; five grandchildren: Brian Peterson, of Fargo, N.D., Michael (Elizabeth) Peterson, of Moorhead, Minn., Candi Peterson and Nick Bubnich, both of Madison, Wis., and Timothy Peterson of Coon Valley, Wis.; two great-grandchildren: Alexia T. Peterson and Shaylee Peterson; two sisters: Barbara Rhiger of Annandale, Va., and Karen (Jerry) Younggreen, of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Dean (Gloria) Peterson, of Alden, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.

Heather Lampert officiating. Military honors by the Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530, Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, and the state of Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program will conclude the service. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Gordon was born Sept. 16, 1931 in Mason City, the son of Albert and Mildred Ann (Stewart) Dye. He enlisted into the Army in 1950 where he served in the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged 1953.
He was married to Betty (McCoun) in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Jan. 21, 1955, and to this union six children were born. Gordon graduated from the Refrigeration/Air Conditioning program from NIACC. He worked at Mercy Hospital in the maintenance department for 25 years until his retirement.
Prior to working for the hospital, he ran the Western gas station and also the Wheel Inn Restaurant located north of Mason City for many years.
Gordon enjoyed gardening and outside work, feeding and watching the birds, reading, cooking and collecting all kinds of things. He enjoyed going on trips with his family, especially their yearly trips to Adventureland in Des Moines. Family was important to Gordon and he enjoyed the times he shared with them.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Betty, of 52 years; children, Julie Asbe and husband, Ken, Sheryl Arndt and husband, Craig, Dan Dye, Paul Dye, Mark Dye and Gordon Dye Jr. and wife Theresa; grandchildren, Erin, Eric and Mike Asbe, Courtney and Cole Arndt, Whitney and Colby Dye, Brookelyn Dye, Evan and Montgomery Dye; great-grandchild, Hunter Asbe; sister, Jackie Mansfield and husband, Dennis; mother-in-law, Josephine McCoun; brother-in-law, Thomas McCoun; and many nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Adams; stepfather, Reece Adams; paternal father, Albert Daniel Dye; and sister-in-law, Mary Orman.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Beth Ann Burr, 56, of 2332 Fairlane Drive N.E., died Wednesday (June 6, 2007) at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her mother and an infant daughter, Hillary Jane.
To her family Beth was a keystone. The pieces fit together because Beth held them there with her endless support, tireless nurturing and boundless optimism.
She was an empathetic listener and caretaker. She loved to cook and entertain. She created a loving home which was full of joy but was also a place to gather strength and grow.
Beth was also a gifted educator whose love for reading inspired and uplifted generations of students. Her generous spirit and gusto for life have touched everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
Beth was born Oct. 11, 1950, to William John and Loretta May (Thorson) Birtwistle in Chicago, Ill. She attended and graduated from Luther College, where she met and married Christopher Robert Burr on June 4, 1972. She attained her master’s degree at Marycrest College in Dubuque. She had been a reading specialist teacher for the Cedar Rapids Community school system for 20 years. She had been an active member of PEO and TTT. She was also a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with her granddaughter, Eleanor.

Josephine Gertrude Frascht was born May 11, 1928, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Theodore and Agusta (Huffman) Vohsman. She graduated from the Nashua Community School.
On Nov. 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gerald “Gus” Frascht at Saint Michaels’s Catholic Church in Nashua. They farmed near Nashua all of their lives, moving to Charles City in 1990.
Living family members include her husband, Gerald “Gus” Frascht, of Charles City; two children: Judy (John) Miner, of Cedar Rapids, and Michael (Geri) Frascht, of Charles City; five grandchildren: Ben (Brie) Miner, Matt Miner, Nicole (Ryan) Karr, Stewart (Nicole) Frascht and Val Frascht; three great-grandchildren: Zoe Frascht, Tyler Karr and Gabriella Miner; a brother, Dick (Jane) Vohsman, of Denver; three sisters, Lucille Shinstine, of Waterloo, Phyllis (Charles) O’Neil, of Nashua, and Rose (Dave) Meek, of Marble Rock; two sisters-in-law: Edith Vohsman of Nashua and Elnora Vohsman of Waverly.

Myrna Lee, the daughter of John and Leta Prelip Goodridge, was born Aug. 25, 1941, in Belmond. She grew up in Kanawha, graduating from Kanawha High School in 1959.
On Dec. 9, 1959, she was united in marriage with William “Bill” Walk in Mason City. The couple made their home on a farm west of Kanawha. Myrna continued to live on the farm following Bill’s death in 1994, and moved into Kanawha in 2000.
Myrna enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing trips up north at William’s Narrows. She loved shopping, cooking, working on the farm and gardening. Myrna loved the companionship she had with her dog, Sheba.
She was a member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church and the Ladies Circle at the church.
Myrna is survived by three children: Kelly Walk and his wife, Cindy, of Kanawha, Shelly Shellenberg and her husband, Tom, of Wesley, Bill Walk Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Buffalo Center; six grandchildren: Shannon Larson, Whitney Shellenberg, Ryan Walk, Justin Walk, Bret Walk and Isaiah Walk; three stepgrandchildren: Zach Penning, Jordon Penning and Janie Penning; and numerous other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; infant brother and infant sister.

Mary Jane Lafayette
Mary Jane (Bogardus) Lafayette, 96, passed away June 3, 2007, at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center in The Villages, Fla.
She was born March 9, 1911, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Emma Bogardus. She was married to George Lafayette and lived in Palm Springs, Calif., before moving to Illinois and then to The Villages in 2001.
She was an active member of The Villages New Covenant United Methodist Church, where memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 8, in the church chapel, with Pastor Bill Lee officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church. The family will visit with friends following the service. Cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will be at a later date in Bushnell, Ill.
A bookkeeper for 60 years, she completed her career by retiring in 1998 after 41 years in the accounts payable department of the Palm Springs Desert Hospital. She was very active in many Palm Springs service clubs. Since moving to The Villages, she has enjoyed the Silver Lake Ladies group outings and the Happy Hearts Red Hatters.
She is survived by two daughters: Betty Lou (John) Simshauser, The Villages, and Joanne (Richard) Louden, Springfield, Fla.; also four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Winifred Dwan, of Mason City; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Ray and Emma Bogardus; and three sisters: Margaret Bogardus, Betty Meece and Buena Newell.

TITONKA — Cecil Ray Heyer, 71, of Titonka, died Thursday (June 7, 2007) in Titonka.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 11, at the United Methodist Church in Titonka. Inurnment will be in Buffalo Township Cemetery in rural Titonka.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka.
Cecil Ray Heyer was born in rural Titonka on April 4, 1936, son of George and Gesina Janssen Heyer. He attended school at Grant No. 4 in Winnebago County and Buffalo Center.
Cecil married Florence Marie Heinrich on June 19, 1957, at the Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, Minn. He farmed with his parents and continued farming and working on construction.
Cecil and Florence were blessed with three children, Denise McEvers of Jerseyville, Ill., LaDonna Birkey and husband, Dan, of Garner, and David Heyer and wife, Jean, of Thompson. He had 12 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren: Justin, Brandon, Preston, Quentin, Tamara, Trina, Brittany, Matthew, Zachary, David, Jill (Kyle), and Travis. He had two special little ones, his great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Wayne and Rylie Janae.
Cecil enjoyed his tractors, fishing, camping, wood carving, country western music and time with his family.
Cecil is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother, Gordon Heyer and wife, Lois, of Kansas City, Kan.; six sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, 15 nephews, 11 nieces and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Pearlie Heinrich; four brothers, Alfred, Harvey, Lawrence and James; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Heyer; and one nephew, Kevin Heyer.

Roger ‘Chris’ Stoltenberg
MASON CITY — Roger (Chris) Stoltenberg, 80, of Mason City, died Thursday (June 7, 2007) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Roger was born March 23, 1927, in Owen Township, Mason City, to Herman and Anna (Hansen) Stoltenberg, the youngest of five children.
He served his country at the end of World War II in Italy.
Roger (Chris) married Donna Jean Thoen, of Northwood, on Sept. 28, 1952. He was employed by State Brand Creamery (which became AMPI) for 42 years, retiring in June 1989.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a life-long member of the VFW, worked with the Boy Scouts for several years, and was a member of the Golden Wedding Club.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was very fortunate to have them close by. Since retirement he has traveled to many places, especially enjoying visits to the Washington, D.C., area and Colorado to visit his wife’s family. He had the chance to travel to every state, except Hawaii and Alaska.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Donna, of Mason City; five children, Randy and wife, RoseAnn, of Mason City, Gary and fiancée, Julia Coronado, of Osage, Tim and wife, Lee Anne, of Manly, twin daughters, Judy Miller and husband, Dan, of Ventura, Janet Schmitz and husband, Doug of Clear Lake; 9 grandchildren, Amy Stoltenberg, Rachel Stoltenberg, John Stoltenberg, Nikki Stoltenberg, Shanna Stoltenberg, Jenna Stoltenberg, Danielle Miller, Devyn Miller and Ryan Schmitz; two step-grandchildren, Kendra (Knopf) Franzen and Bianca Martinez; brother, Walter “Boot” Stoltenberg, and wife, Maxine, of Nora Springs; two nieces and many nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Edward and Virtus, and sister, Helen Arndt.
He will be remembered for his easy spirit and quiet, gentle nature, which touched so many lives.

ST. ANSGAR — Elmer K. Clausen, 97, of St. Ansgar died Thursday (June 7, 2007) at Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

Elmer Kenneth Clausen was born April 21, 1910, to Rosa and Jacob Clausen in Stacyville. He was baptized into the Christian faith at the Presbyterian church, rural Stacyville, and also confirmed at the Presbyterian church.
After completing eighth grade at Union School, he worked on the family farm.
He was married to Marie Hofland on June 10, 1935, by the Rev. Ullonsong at the home of Marie’s parents in Reeder, N.D. After their marriage, Elmer and Marie made their home on a farm near Stacyville.
Elmer played slide trombone in the Lybarger Orchestra and loved to fish. He farmed for 35 years and also worked for Hatten in Stacyville, doing electrical and plumbing work.
In 1967, Elmer and Marie moved to St. Ansgar, and he worked part-time for Falk Quarries. They enjoyed spending time at their trailer in Waterville, Minn., catching lots of fish and visiting with friends and family.
Elmer lived at the Worth/Manor Home for 15 years. Elmer passed away on June 7 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, where he lived for a month.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald, and wife, Audrey Clausen, of Rochester, Minn., Rodney of Red Wing, Minn., three daughters, Myrna and husband, Eugene Heskett, of Madera, Calif., Shirley and husband, Norman Kittleson, of St. Ansgar, Ann and husband, Dean Boynton, of Anoka, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
