Interment will take place on Tuesday in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

The family preferences for those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Marion’s name include the Klemme United Methodist Church, Klemme Library or the donor’s choice.

Marion Kathryn Irvine was born on a farm near Dysart, Iowa, on March 3, 1915, the daughter of John and Jennie (Wilson) Irvine. She was one of six children who blessed John and Jennie’s union.

Marion graduated from Geneseo Consolidated High School and continued her education at Iowa State Teacher’s College where she received her teaching certificate. She went on to teach school in Tama County, Iowa, Klemme and in Northwood. Many whom she taught during her career remember her as their “No. 1 kindergarten teacher.”

Marion was united in marriage to Asa Arnold on March 20, 1943, at the United Presbyterian Church, Traer, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five children, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marion always had a warm and welcoming kindness towards others. She was always looking out for their needs and assisting in whatever way she was able. She was very fond of her grandchildren, a mutual affection they had for her as well. She always said her special treasures were her children, grandchildren and their spouses.

Her family will cherish the memory of trips with grandma to the Dairy Queen, going out to eat, and going with her on a shopping excursion. They will savor the memory of wonderful aromas coming from her kitchen as she baked and cooked for them on many occasions. They will reflect back on special summers spent at “Grandma’s House” as she looked forward to entertaining them and taking them them on tours to the Grotto and to other places. Each one of her grandkids will hold tight to the special “Grandmother’s Blankets,” otherwise known as “Quilts,” she made with her loving hands for each of them.

Marion was very active throughout her entire life, always raising a beautiful flower and vegetable garden filled with roses and pansies. She enjoyed participating in quilting groups, playing bingo, music, sewing and coffeeing with friends. She was very proud of her 100% Irish heritage.

Marion was always interested in her community and had served two years as mayor and eight years on the Klemme City Council. She was also devoted to her church home, the Klemme United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, and taught Bible school. She had been very active in the church circles, the Order of the Eastern Star, Potpourri Club, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Grandmother’s Club, Klemme Library, and the Klemme Senior Citizens.

Those left to cherish the legacy of her life include her daughters, Clarice Ann Hornbacher and husband, James, Eden Prairie, Minn., Marilyn Latham and husband, Don, Alexander, Rosalyn Fineran and husband, Don, E. Bethel, Minn., Noreen Arnold, Oak Park, Ill., and Coreen Arnold and husband, Dave Lehman, Oak Park, Ill.; a brother, William Irvine, and wife, Ann, Traer; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

On March 26, 1929, she married John Wiemann. To this union, 10 children were born. John and Bena farmed in the Alexander area all their married life except for three years when they lived near Rockwell. John died on   Aug. 7, 1960, with four dependent children still at home.

Bena was a patient, caring person who always had room for visitors at her table. She was noted for serving pancakes, caramel rolls, meatloaf and fried potatoes among other family favorites. She led by example and was not a person to worry. Every new baby was regaled as a miracle.
