Buena G. Gould was born July 25, 1922 in

Clarence A. and Tillie (Rossum) Helm.
Buena attended school in Plymouth and
graduated from Plymouth High School in
1940. She was united in marriage to
Burnes S. Gould on March 31, 1943, in

Buena worked for the Plymouth school
system and managed the Muskie Lounge in
Ventura for many years. One of Buena’s
greatest joys was her grandchildren.
They will cherish the memory that Buena
was an excellent cook and baker. She
would always have warm chocolate chip
cookies ready for the grandchildren
whenever they came to visit. They will
also miss her candy drawer and the
special fudge, which only she could
make. After the passing of her husband,
angels became an important part of
Buena’s life. This was evident by the
decor of her room. Angels of all shapes
and sizes adorned Buena’s walls and any
available surface area. On equal footing
was her love for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Whether it be football, basketball or
any event the Hawks were involved in,
Buena was one of their biggest fans. She
also loved to play cards with her family
and root for the Cubbies.
The family would like to offer sincere
thanks for the many years of special
care and loving attention provided for
her by the nursing staff and aides at
Good Shepherd Health Center. The family
also would like to offer their thanks to
Hospice of North Iowa.
Those left to cherish her memory are her
children, Judy Bartlett of Decorah,

Leland died Thursday (Sept. 8, 2005) at

Leland, Iowa, the only son of Eddie and
Alma (Holland) Ambroson. He was baptized
and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church in Leland where he was a lifelong
member. He attended Leland School,
graduating in 1942. Bob played
basketball and baseball throughout high

upbringing, working the land and took

the Leland area.
Bob had a strong belief in right and
wrong. A very ethical man, he believe in
honesty and telling the truth. He had a
quick wit and a dry sense of humor. He
was always the first to try out a new
practical joke on someone, and expected
one in return. He was always interested,
and attended as many of the
grandchildren’s functions as he possibly
could, and was always very proud of all
his grandchildren.

Duane William Ballhagen was born Oct.
17, 1960, in Mason City to Duane T. and
Shirley D. (Arndt) Ballhagen. He was the
only son and third of four children born
to his parents. “Will,” as he was
affectionately known by his family and
friends, was baptized and confirmed at
St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell
and attended Rockwell-Swaledale
Community Schools.
As a youngster, Will was very
inquisitive and seemed to delight in
taking things apart to see how they
work. He was a competitor and usually
placed in the local punt, pass and kick
competitions, as well as, hit, pitch and
throw contests. He was often seen riding
his mini bike or bicycle. While in
junior high, Will played football and
worked for Clifford Henniger, who kept
him busy with a variety of odd jobs on
his farm.
During Will’s high school years, he was
known to be adventurous, a bit of a
thrill seeker and fond of a variety of
activities such as tinkering on cars and
“wrenching” in his Dad’s shop, cruising
to Clear Lake or East Park, fishing and
camping.
Will met and was united in marriage to
Dawn Heitland in Mason City on Feb. 5,
1983. The couple became the proud
parents of a son, Jess and daughter,
Jenna. Will and Dawn eventually
divorced. However, they remained friends
in regards to their children’s
interests.
Throughout Will’s life, he enjoyed
caring for pets, most currently, his two
dogs, Jack and Shianne, collecting
unicorns and following his interests of
car races and motorcycle rallies.
Will was employed as a construction
truck driver for Earl Cannon in Hanford
and most recently worked at Fermented
Products in Mason City, until he was
diagnosed with his first brain tumor in
1991. Once in remission, Will returned
to his employment and continued to work
until additional brain tumors developed.
He formally retired in 1998 due to ill
health.
Will has shared the past several years
of his life with his companion, Laura
Hogan, and her son, Jared. Together,
they enjoyed attending Jared’s
activities, going to hockey games and
listening to music. Will loved life and
spending time with his family. Parents
recall that Will looked forward to
eating his mom’s lasagna and German
chocolate cake and sharing a close bond
with her. He treasured Sunday morning
breakfasts prepared by his dad.
Those who have shared in Will’s life
will dearly miss him.
He is survived by his son, Jess
