Richard Trampel, 82, a

Memorials may be given
to the donor's choice.
Clarence Trampel was
born September 22, 1922,
at Kamrar, Iowa, the son
of Peter and Jennie
(Schaa) Trampel. He
moved with his family at
a young age to a farm
near Klemme, Iowa.
Clarence attended and
graduated from eighth
grade from the Avery
Township Schools.
He was united in
marriage to Ruth Haes,
April 24, 1943, at the
Immanuel Reformed
Church, Klemme. Their
union was blessed with
five children: JoAnne,
Richard, Beverly, Dixie,
and Terry.
The couple made their
home and raised their
family on the Trampel
family farm which has
continued to be in the
family for more than one
century.
Clarence was a lifelong
farmer and raised
horses. His love of
horses spanned his
entire life. He had
raised many different
breeds over the years,
as well as, numerous
teams of mules. Many of
Clarence's favorite past
times included special
times spent with his
family and friends. On
special occasions he
would hitch up the teams
and go on trail rides.
The Trampel family has
and continues to
participate in many
horse, rodeo, and riding
events throughout the
surrounding region.
The last several years,
Clarence was the Number
One spectator at any of
the events or practices
at Trampel Arena south
of Klemme. Despite the
fact that he wasn't
always feeling at his
best, he looked forward
to going for a ride
nearly every day.
Clarence rarely missed
an opportunity to go to
a horse sale. Mr.
Trampel also enjoyed
touring around the
countryside in his
surrey, a family
heirloom that had
belonged to his parents.
Although Clarence and
Ruth had not done a lot
of extensive travel, the
family cherishes the
memories from a bus trip
they took to Texas over
the Christmas season in
2003. Clarence's son,
Rich, had purchased a
school bus which he
renovated and the family
traveled together on
this memorable and
eventful excursion. The
trip left them all with
special reflections of
precious time together
touring the sights,
sharing laughs, stories,
and priceless memories.
Clarence enjoyed times
spent with his family
and friends. He also
enjoyed the company and
companionship of his
dogs.
He was a longtime member
of the Immanuel Reformed
United Church of Christ,
Klemme.
Those left to cherish
the memory of his life
include his wife and
life partner of over 62
years, Ruth Trampel,

Leona M. Barber
FOREST CITY — Leona M.
Barber, 90, of Forest
City, died Sunday (May
1, 2005) at the Good
Samaritan Center in
Forest City.
Funeral service will be
2 p.m. Thursday at the
First Baptist Church in
Forest City with Pastor
Doug Snyder officiating.
Burial will be at Newell
Cemetery in Newell,
Iowa, at 11 a.m. Friday.
Visitation will be held
from 5 to 8 p.m. today
at the funeral home and
one hour prior to the
service at the church.
Leona Mae Goetschius was
born on a farm near
Newell, Iowa, on May 27,
1914, to Earl and Louise
(Rogers) Goetschius. She
lived there but a short
time before moving with
her family to a farm
near Winthrop, Minn.,
where she attended a
country school until she
was 10 years old. The
family then returned to
South Dakota, when her
father purchased a farm
near Grover. Leona again
attended a small country
school, graduating from
eighth grade in 1928.
Following graduation,
she went to high school
in Watertown, S.D., for
two years. On her own
initiative, she
completed high school 34
years later through
correspondence studies
with the American School
in Chicago, Ill.
At the age of 15, Leona
met a neighbor, Frank
William Snyder. School
proved no match for
love, and they married
on Nov. 14, 1931, in the
parsonage of the
Watertown Methodist
Church. They had two
children: a daughter,
Elinor Mae, who was born
and also died on Sept.
1, 1933, and a son,
Donald Earl, born Jan.
10, 1936. Frank passed
away on Feb. 1, 1977,
after a long battle with
diabetes, just months
after celebrating their
45th wedding
anniversary.
On Feb. 13, 1979, Leona
married Lyle Barber, a
longtime family friend
who had lost his wife.
They lived in Watertown,
where both had spent
much of their lives.
Leona and Lyle had many
wonderful years
together, traveling and
visiting their combined
families and many
friends. When Lyle
passed away after a
prolonged illness, Leona
moved back to Forest
City to be near her son.
Leona's initial
"career" was farming,
first with her father on
their family farm, and
then with her husband,
Frank. In the 1950-60s,
she worked for the
Newell Consolidated
School in the hot lunch
program. Her last
employer was Winnebago
Industries, where she
worked in the window
department for about 10
years.
After becoming a true
follower of Jesus
Christ, her Lord, as a
young wife, Leona became
active in her churches,
the United Methodist
Church, in Watertown,
Newell and then Forest
City. She worked with
Sunday School and Ladies
Mission work, as well as
hosting many
missionaries and
evangelists who visited
these churches.
While living in Forest
City, she was a regular
attendee at the First
Baptist Church, where
she had worshipped on
the morning of going
home. She passed away
peacefully at Good
Samaritan Center, where
she had lived following
falls requiring two hip
surgeries.
Leona is survived by
her son, Don and his
wife, Clare, and their
three children: JoLynn
and Mark Langerud, Taryn
Brumm and McKinzie,
Pleasant Hill, Iowa;
Lisa Olberg, Jordan and
Linden, Victorville,
Calif., and Douglas and
Beth Snyder, Benjamin,
Matthew, Rachel, Samuel
and Andrew, Forest City,
Iowa; a sister, Cerena
(Beth) Arnold, Fountain,
Colo., and her
sister-in-law, Helen
Goetschius, San Antonio,
Texas, and many nieces
and nephews as well as
the children and
grandchildren of her
late husband, Lyle.
Leona was preceded in
death by her parents,
Earl and Louise;
husbands, Frank and
Lyle; daughter, Elinor
