Marcus ‘Bud' Doebel

CLEAR LAKE —    Marcus Delano "Bud" Doebel, 72, of Clear Lake, died Friday (March 25, 2005) at the Muse- Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth Street, Clear Lake, with the Reverend Mark Doebel officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the chapel.

The family of Marcus Delano "Bud" Doebel has requested that memorial  contributions be made to the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City in his memory.

According to his wishes, his body was cremated.

Bud was born on Feb. 6, 1933, the son of Arthur and Bernadette (Martin) Doebel in Manly. He was the younger brother to Mary (Hagen) of Manly and Monica (Hagen) of Mason City. As the only boy and the baby, Mary and  Monica say that he was pretty spoiled, as their mother and father would tell them to just leave Bud alone.

He grew up in Manly and attended schools in Manly, and Grafton.

He was united in marriage to Bonnie (Cooper) on June 21, 1952, and to this union Mark, Sue, Mike, and Dan were born.

Marcus was a member of the National Guard and worked at Decker's Meat Packing Plant and Thriftway Grocery stores before he began a 37-year career as a route salesman with the Clear Lake Bakery in 1958. He was very proud of the fact that during these 37 years he never missed a day. (Young people take note.)

When Bud retired in 1995, he enjoyed tinkering on his and Bonnie's acreage, mowing lawn and cutting and splitting firewood (probably about 30 years' worth). He enjoyed his pool games and pool buddies at the VFW. He also enjoyed reading, and was an avid Clear Lake Lions wrestling fan. Many a fan could pick him out of the stands with his distinctive handle-bar mustache.

Left behind to carry on his memory and legacy are his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Doebel, of Clear Lake; his son, Mark Doebel, and his wife, Marilyn, of Clear Lake; grandson, Robert and Kristie along with Brennen and Braxton from Mason City; grandson, David Doebel, and his wife, Kirsten, along with Maxwell and Colby of Alta, Iowa; granddaughter, Angie, and her husband, Mike Lester, of Emmetsburg; grandson, Matthew, of Storm Lake; daughter, Sue, and her husband, Kent Ellsworth, of Humboldt, along with granddaughters: Brittany and Calli; son, Mike Doebel, and his wife, Marsha, of Clear Lake, along with grandson, Derek, of Ames; son, Dan Doebel, and his wife, Kim, of Davenport, along with grandsons: Luke and Josh, and granddaughters: Kalynn and Elizabeth; Marcus's sisters: Monica and Mary; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three nephews; two nieces; two brothers-in-law; and his parents.
