Orville H. Trytten

LAKE MILLS — Orville H. Trytten, 87, of Lake Mills, died Thursday (Dec. 8, 2005) at his home in Lake Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Otto/Chose Post No. 235 of the American Legion.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 6 p.m. at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Orville Herman Trytten was born May 16, 1918, in Thompson, the son of Oscar and Emma (Leifson) Trytten.

Following baptism and confirmation in the Lutheran faith, Orville moved with his family to Lake Mills.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he was married to Irene M. Trytten in 1944 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following six years of farming in the Thompson and Grafton areas, they opened the Golden Star Roller Rink, which moved seasonally to various towns in northern Iowa.

Orville loved working with children and enjoyed playing games with his family who had a weekly family meal (“Fat Tuesday”) at his home in Lake Mills. Orville shared his enthusiasm for music, skating, carnivals, parades, fireworks, outdoor movie theaters, and all things fun with his children. His greatest treasures were his family, wife, Irene, children, and grandchildren.

Survivors include five  children, Viola Simmons of Lake Mills, Dean Trytten and wife, Beverly, of Taylors, S.C., Twyla and husband, Alain Pederson, of Lake Mills, Karen and husband, Mike Leidal, of Austin, Minn., and Pamela Trytten of Boulder City, Nev.; two brothers, Arlo Trytten and wife, Darlene,  of Lake Mills, and Glaydon Trytten and wife, Donna, of Lake Mills; nine grandchildren, Nickolas Simmons, Dana Trytten and wife, Becky, Dana Benson, Denise Lensing and husband, Jerry (and stepson Michael), Misty Liedal, Tara Leidal, David Meineke, April Harris and husband, Christopher, and Alex McPherson; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon (Simmons) Ralston, Michael and Jessica Harris and Madison Rose Lensing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Emma Trytten; two grandchildren, Jason Leidal and Chad Simmons; brothers, Lawrence Trytten, Elmer (Bud) Trytten, Hiram Trytten; and sisters, Juella Trytten and Alice Peterson.

Leland ‘PeeWee’ Rezab

PLYMOUTH — Leland J. (PeeWee) Rezab, 80, of 411 Broad St., Plymouth, died Friday (Dec. 9, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, after courageously battling cancer for more than 24 years.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth. Military honors will be by the Manly American Legion Post No. 110.

Visitation will be from 4  to 7 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, and then one hour before the service on Tuesday.

Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa, Mayo Clinic Cancer Research, and Disabled Veterans Association.

Leland was born March 10, 1925, in Plymouth, the son of John and Anna (Straka) Rezab. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1942. He then attended radio school in Des Moines and Chicago.

Leland served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an ammunition handler. Following the service, he moved back to Plymouth and worked with his father in construction. He later worked for R&R, Henkel, and Dave Moen construction.

He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors, his dog, watching the Hawkeyes and fixing radios and TVs.

He was a lifetime member of Carpenters of America, American Legion Post No. 110, and Disabled Veterans Association.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rezab, Plymouth; stepdaughter, Sharon Hamrick and her husband, Harry, Mason City; two grandsons, Douglas Hamrick and his girlfriend, Debbie Bock, Garner, and Brian Hamrick and his wife, Renee, Mason City; two great-grandchildren, Alexandria and MacKenzie Burtness; two brothers, Norman Rezab and his wife, Frieda, Plymouth, and Wesley Rezab, Mason City; one sister, LaVonne Anderson, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; brother-in-law, Gunner Anderson, and sister-in-law, Marjorie Rezab.

Marleta Redenius

TITONKA — Marleta Redenius, 81, of Titonka, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (Dec. 8, 2005) at her home while surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka with the Rev. James Berka, the Rev. Dan Fernandez, and the Rev.  Merlin Norris presiding. Interment will be in Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka.

Marleta Redenius was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Titonka, Iowa, daughter of Folkert and Juliana (Meyer) Stecker. Marleta was schooled at Titonka and married Alfred Redenius on Aug. 8, 1945, at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. Alfred and Marleta began their married lives as farmers and later Alfred became an insurance agent and they moved into Titonka in 1961. After retiring, they enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Ariz., for many years.

Her greatest passion was loving her husband of 60 years and raising their four children. She was an active member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where she was involved in Circle and many other activities. Marleta worked for 18 years for Blake Funeral Home and gave encouragement and comfort to many bereaved families. She enjoyed music and playing her organ, going for walks, and various crafts.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Alfred; her son; and three daughters; and their families. They are Allan and Armona Redenius of Fort Dodge, Arlys and Perry Hefty of Colorado Springs, Colo., Alvina and Brad Driscoll of Cedar Rapids, and Arlene and Colm McCormack of Colorado Springs, Colo. She was called “Grandma Sweetheart” by seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. They are, Todd Redenius, Lisa (Redenius) Flaherty and husband, Ryan, Dan Hefty, Nathan Hefty, Charles Driscoll and Harrison Driscoll; as well as one brother, Julius Stecker, and wife, Judy of Warsaw, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; and two infant granddaughters.

Paul H. Passow

MASON CITY — Paul H. Passow, 55, of Mason City and formerly of Clare, died Saturday (Dec. 10, 2005) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, 307 S. 12th St. in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Clare.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where there will be a vigil at 7 p.m.

Surviving are his daughters, Valerie Passow of Waterloo, Barbara Passow of Mason City, Brenda Passow of Fort Dodge; his mother, Bonnie Passow of Fort Dodge; brothers, Mark, and his wife Carol of Gresham, Ore., Jay of Sacramento, Calif., Joe and his wife Linda of Duncombe, Robert and his wife Cheryl of Fort Dodge, Dale and his wife Crystal of Elkland, Mo.; sisters, Marianne Roberts of Fremont, Neb., Cynthia Hiller of Las Vegas, Nev., Denise Passow of Fort Dodge, Debbie Papouchis of Mason City, Sherry Dencklau and her husband Ronnie of Vincent; grandmother Margaret Passow of Clare.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Dale Passow; and a niece, Stacey Passow.

Paul H. Passow was born on Oct. 23, 1950, in Fort Dodge. He attended St. Matthew’s School in Clare and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1969.

Following his education, he became employed for Nissen’s. He attended and graduated from Reisch Auctioneer School in 1976 in Mason City and was a former co-owner of Bickford-Passow Auction Service for a number of years. Paul also worked for Super Draulic and later Consolidated Freight.

In 1994, he moved to Mason City and continued employment with Consolidated Freight. In 2001 he became employed at Van Horn Auto Salvage in shipping and receiving and was employed there at the time of his death.

On Feb. 15, 1975, he was united in marriage to Natalie Mandelko in Fort Dodge and they established their home in Fort Dodge.

Paul was a former member of the Teamsters Union, the Badger Lions, and was a current member of Ducks Unlimited.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter, collector of toy tractors, antiques, and liked to refinish furniture.

George ‘Joe’ Peterson

MASON CITY — George “Joe” Arthur Peterson, 80, of 689 16th St. S.E. in Mason City, died Saturday (Dec. 10, 2005) at his home.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City. The Rev. Harry H. Koelker will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City with military honors by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday with a Scriptural Wake Service at 6 pm. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126-Third St. N.E. in Mason City.

George “Joe” Arthur Peterson was born on Dec. 24, 1924, in Mason City, the son of Arthur and Laura (Britton) Peterson.

He attended, and graduated from, Mason City High in 1943. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943, and was stationed with the 71st Infantry Division during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1944.

After his honorable discharge, he came back to Mason City and began his career as an auto parts and equipment salesman and worked for Hawthorn Auto Parts, Schukei Chevrolet, and American Auto Parts in Mason City, and retired in 1987 after 37 years in the business.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Martin on Dec. 28, 1949, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.

Joe coached the Knights of Columbus Little League Baseball team for 10 years, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed all sports, and enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Texas, and California for the winter, but his great love and enjoyment was his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans in Mason City.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Evelyn Peterson of Mason City; his children; Kathie Kopps and her husband Randy of Mason City, and Gary Peterson of Irvine, Calif.; two grandchildren, Scott Tanner of Superior, Colo., and Lauren Peterson of Villanova University, Pa.; a brother, Maurice Peterson and his wife Rose of San Antonio, Texas; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His parents; grandson, Jacon Tanner; three brothers, Thomas, Lowell, and Kenneth Peterson; and a sister, Marion Nolan, preceded him in death.

Donald E. Abbas

KANAWHA — Donald E. Abbas, 80, of Kanawha passed away Saturday (Dec. 10, 2005) at Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

Funeral services for Donald Abbas will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Kanawha and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Donald, the son of Fred and Grace Folkerts Abbas, was born on Aug. 15, 1925, in rural Kanawha. He was raised in the Kanawha area where he attended country school and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1943. Following graduation, Donald helped his father farm the family farm.

Donald was united in marriage with Eleanor Ruka on April 10, 1948, in Goodell. The couple made their home in the Kanawha, Britt and Corwith area. Following their retirement they moved from the Corwith farm into Kanawha. Eleanor passed away on June 4, 1998.

Donald loved his family and friends very much. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling, listening to male gospel quartets and traveling when given the opportunity. He served as a role model to his family and was a true inspiration.

In 1999, Donald married Leona Carlson Freerksen in Jenison, Mich. The couple made their home in Kanawha until the time of Leona’s death on May 22, 2005.

Donald was an active member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. He served on the church council as deacon and elder and was a member of the Men’s Society.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Lois Ann Mouw and her husband, Glen, of Sioux Center; his son, Darl and his wife, Paula of Kanawha; two step children, Arlene Goemaat and her husband, Larry, of Lakewood, Calif. and Richard Freerksen and his wife, Ruth, of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Audrey Mehl and her husband, Norman, of Britt; his brother, Dennis Abbas and his wife, Jean, of Marshalltown; and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Maude; first wife, Eleanor in 1998; second wife, Leona, in 2005; and brother, Jerry.

Alliene E. Ibbotson

MASON CITY — Alliene E. Ibbotson, 84, of Mason City died Sunday (Dec. 11, 2005) at Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services for Alliene will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Ron Stein of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be held in the Rock Falls Cemetery in Rock Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service on Wednesday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa.

Alliene was born on April 10, 1921, in Grinnell, the daughter of Ralph and Lottie (Brownlie) Simmons. She graduated from Grinnell High School and also from the Burlington Junior College Nurse’s Training Program.

She married Donald B. Ibbotson on Dec. 25, 1940, in Kahoka, Mo.

Alliene’s hobbies included sewing, crafts and playing cards. She also enjoyed riding horses and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Dennis E. Ibbotson and wife Kathy of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn K. Stayner and husband, Grayling of Northwood; grandchildren, Heather Kimmel and husband, Bill, of Prairie Village, Kan.; Nicolle Hodges and husband Jacob of Oskaloosa; and April Stayner of Northwood; great-grandchildren, Bo and Riley Kimmel and Fallon Hodges; sisters, Mary Harvey, of Wauwatosa, Wis.; Louise Kilby of Caldwell, Idaho; brother, Donald Simmons of Decatur.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald.

Marcella M. ‘Babe’ Spurrier

DAVENPORT — Marcella M. “Babe” Spurrier, 91, of Davenport, passed away Sunday (Dec. 11, 2005) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Entombment will be in Davenport Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Runge Mortuary, 838 E. Kimberly Road in Davenport, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.

She was born Oct. 13, 1914, the daughter of Nickolas and Susana (Heinz) Krapp. A graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School in Mason City, Mrs. Spurrier later attended American Institute of Business College in Davenport.

On Feb. 12, 1949, she married Elmer O. Spurrier in Rock Island, Ill. He preceded her in death May 24, 1988.

Mrs. Spurrier was employed as a legal secretary for Attorney Jacob Jepsen for 25 years prior to her retirement. Following that, she was an accountant and tax preparer.

Her memberships included Holy Family Catholic Church, Women of the Moose, Davenport Elks, Bendix Management Club, where she also served as past director, National Association of Tax Practitioners, and Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and flower gardening.

Survivors include her stepson, Jay Spurrier and his wife, Pat, of Peoria Ariz., stepdaughter-in-law, Velma Spurrier of Davenport; sisters, Thelma Paulus of Charles City, Cecelia Mott of Mason City, and Loretta Park of Rockwell.

Many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and special friends also survive.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Lowell Spurrier; and a sister, Helen Paulus.

HAMPTON — Daniel Charles Artley, 78, of Hampton, died Wednesday (Dec. 14, 2005) at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hampton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Daniel was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Hampton, a son of George Dennison and Elsie Louise (Crow) Artley. He was raised in Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School in 1945.

He was in the National Guard for 21 years.

He was united in marriage on Dec. 19, 1948, to Esther Glenn at the Bangor Friends Church in Union.

He was a carpenter and cabinet maker.

He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church.

Daniel was a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Hampton City Council and was mayor of Hampton, and was a county supervisor. He was a Boy Scout leader and a Little League coach.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Artley of Hampton; son, Glenn Daniel Artley of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter Mary and husband, Bryce Feldhoff, of Hampton; son, George David and wife, Jeannie Artley, of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandson, Jordan W. Luppen of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Riley J. Luppen of Hampton; grandson, Charles Artley of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandson, Jack Ethan Artley of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandson, Isaac G. Feldhoff of Hampton; brother, G. Robert and wife, Margaret Artley, of Winterhaven, Fla.; brother, Gordon Dean and wife, Regina Artley, of Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant children.

Anne Elizabeth Bracklein Brunsvold

GREENFIELD — Anne Elizabeth Bracklein Brunsvold was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Mason City to William and Magdalena (Benz) Bracklein only two weeks after they arrived in the United States from Germany. She passed away Dec. 9, 2005, in Greenfield, after a long battle with cancer.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with the family greeting friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Concordia Cemetery, Joice.

Anne lived in Mason City all her years of schooling and graduated with Mason City High School’s class of 1943. To help the war effort, she served as a telephone operator for the Navy Department in Washington, D.C., for 3 years after high school.

On Feb. 24, 1952, Anne married Curtis Brunsvold at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mason City. They farmed north of Hanlontown and raised three children: William, Mark and Sonja.

Anne was active at Grace Lutheran in Hanlontown, led Sonja’s Girl Scout troop, served on the auxiliary board of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, and was an election judge for Danville Township in Worth County.

After Curtis’s death in 1985, she lived for seven more years on the farm, then moved to Mason City where she returned to St. James Lutheran Church, where she had been confirmed. In Mason City, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital and was a member of the Mason City Women’s Club.

Besides being devoted to her family, Anne enjoyed gardening, traveling, doing crosswords, reading and having coffee with the Class of ’43.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Curtis; her brothers William, John, Fritz and Robert; and infant twin grand-children, Andrew and Sine.

Anne is survived by her three children, William (Barbara) Brunsvold of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Mark (Linda) of Apple Valley, Minn., and Sonja (Jeff) LaBarge of Greenfield; her three grandchildren, Steve Johnson of Kensett, and Matthew and Sarah Brunsvold of Apple Valley, Minn.; her siblings, Hans Bracklein of Boone, Betty Stotler of Cedar Rapids, Barbara (Wally) Oftedahl of South St. Paul, Minn., Rev. David Bracklein (Helen Rae) of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Conrad (Ruth) Bracklein of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and sister-in-law Karla Bracklein of Camdenton, Mo.

Florence C. Lynch

SENECA — Florence C. Lynch, 78, of Seneca died Monday (Dec. 12, 2005) at her residence.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft, with the Rev. Jerome P. Cosgrove, the  Rev. Paul D. Bormann and the Rev. Mr. Phil Doocy concelebrating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bancroft.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Bancroft with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Scripture prayer service at 7 p.m.

Florence Cecelia Lynch was born Feb. 9, 1927, in rural Vernon Township, daughter of Leo Edward and Nellie Florence (Calentine) Conway. She attended Vernon Township #1 school, graduating from Seneca Consolidated High School in 1944. She then taught country school in Emmett County prior to marriage.

Florence was united in marriage to Robert Leo Lynch on Feb. 6, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. She and Bob farmed northwest of Lone Rock and moved into Seneca in 1963.

Florence loved her family and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing cards.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Armstrong, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and she was a past 4-H Leader.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Seneca; six children, Mary Menke and her husband, Don, of Indianola, Ellen Schiltz and her husband, Rob, of Fort Dodge, Tim Lynch and his wife, Pauline, of Duncan, Teresa Geitzenauer and her husband, Jim, of Armstrong, Anne Vaske and her husband, David, of Fort Dodge, and Carol Patterson and Ed Stadler of Swea City; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by seven sisters, Lucille Sewell and her husband, Wayne, of Guthrie  Center, Edna Nelson and  her husband, Charles, of Emmetsburg, Alice Murphy and her husband, Don, of Cherokee, Delores Hauber and her husband, Harry, of Spirit Lake, Mary Schroder and her husband, Bob, of Ankeny, Virginia Fokken of Cherokee, and Frances Brink and her husband, Ben, of Rock Rapids; one brother, Leo Conway and his wife, Arlene, of Emmetsburg; and many nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her parents.
