2371 Windfall Ave., Charles City, died
early Thursday morning (Aug. 25, 2005)
at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home
in Charles City.
Lucile fought a courageous battle with
breast cancer, first diagnosed three
years ago. Following radiation
treatments and a two-year remission,
Lucile again faced the ravaging affects
of her disease in April when her cancer
returned, this time targeting her brain.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 705
3rd Ave. in Charles City, with the Rev.
Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment

Those wishing to extend memorials or
expressions of sympathy may direct them
to the Lucile C. Trappe Memorial Fund or

City, which she was a member of.
Lucile Clara Louise Carolyn Trappe was
born Sept. 4, 1922, in Ionia, to Albert
and Amanda Harnich Heise. She was the
fourth child and first daughter of six
children born to her parents. Lucile
graduated from Charles City High School
and furthered her education in Cedar
Falls, completing her teaching
certificate (Normal Training). She spent
all of her life in the Charles City
area.
While teaching at the Charles City rural
country school, Lucile met Merlin Venz
and the couple was united in marriage in
1943. Merlin died in 1954, leaving
behind a very determined Lucile and four
young children.
Lucile was a dedicated mother in the
responsibility of raising her children,
always sacrificing and giving of herself
in their interest. She was the sole
financial supporter in her home, was a
strong woman and knew the true meaning
of manual labor. Her children and family
fondly remember Lucile’s freshly baked
cookies, sweet rice and pies. They claim
her potato salad among the best.
After Lucile’s children were grown, she
attended a dance at the Surf in Clear
Lake, where she met Willard H. Trappe.
They married at St. James Lutheran
Church in Mason City on May 23, 1989.
Together, they treasured dancing at the
Moose Lodge and looking forward to
attending and dancing at the annual
Polka Fest in Monona, Iowa.
Some of Lucile’s leisure activities,
interests and hobbies included flower
and vegetable gardening, sewing
clothing, fishing with Willard, creating
craft items and cooking. She is
described as a loving and positive woman
who had only kind words toward others.
Lucile was a calm and accepting person
who had a “magical personality,” always
desiring peace for herself and those
around her.
Lucile may be well-remembered in the
area communities as she was employed
at the Nashua/Waverly Lockers, where she
packaged meat for approximately 26
years. She also enjoyed volunteering at
the Moose Lodge in Charles City.
Sadly missing Lucile is her husband,
Willard H. Trappe of Charles City; her
son, Alan (Renee) Venz, of Northwood;
her three daughters, Nancy (Larry) Joyce
of Georgetown, Ind., Linda (Rex) Bates
of Loveland, Colo., and Judy (Steve)
Lindquist of Richmond, Texas; Willard’s
children, Shirley Peterson and Cheryl
Rennal of Wisconsin, William (Linda)
Trappe of Slab City, Wisconsin and
Richard (Carolyn) Trappe of Mason City;
her siblings, Bernice Troge, Florence
(Virgil) Greenzweig and Wilbur Heise,
all of Charles City. She will also be a
cherished memory of her special friend,
Dolly Theilen, numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren, and many other
relatives and friends.
Preceding Lucile in death are her
parents, Albert and Amanda Heise; her
first husband, Merlin Venz; her infant
brother, Delbert Heise; her brother,
Harold Heise; Willard’s son, Harlan Dean
Trappe; her niece, Dawn Greenzweig; and
two nephews, Larry Heise and Larry

Arlin C. Olsen
KLEMME — Arlin C. Olsen, 89, a
longtime resident of Klemme and
native of Clear Lake, died
Friday (Aug. 26, 2005) at the
Belmond Medical Center in
Belmond.
Funeral services will be held
10:30 a.m. Monday at Klemme
United Methodist Church. The
Rev. Paddy Druhl will be
officiating. Burial will be in
Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7
p.m. today at Andrews Funeral
Home, 528 E. Main St., Klemme,
and continue one hour prior to
the services at the church on
Monday.
The family suggests memorials to
the donor’s wishes.
Arlin, the son of Knute and
Aleta (Rear) Olson, was born
June 6, 1916, on his parents’
farm in rural Clear Lake. He
attended Eden Country School and
Union No. 2.
Arlin, or “Ole” as many people
knew him, began his lifelong
love and devotion to trucking in
his youth. By age 11, he had
built his first truck using a
Model T car frame and used the
gas tank he installed on the
frame as his seat. He later
graduated to a 1938 Ford truck,
which he used to haul hogs for
area farmers to Mason City. As
the years went by he made
countless trips all over regions
of Iowa and to St. Paul, Minn.
Arlin was united in marriage to
Christina Schwartz on July 6,
1946, at the Little Brown
Church, Nashua, Iowa. Their
partnership of nearly 60 years
was blessed with four sons:
Merlyn, Harland, Randy and
Roger, and one daughter, Corrine
(Susie) Olsen. Roger preceded
Arlin in death.
Following their marriage, they
resided south of Clear Lake for
a time and later moved to
Klemme.
Over the years, much of Arlin’s
trucking was done at night so
that he could do farm work
during the days. He did custom
combining from 1944-49, in
addition to his trucking, and
when he was too busy to drive
truck Christina would fill that
role. In 1949, he purchased a
semitractor and entered the
trucking business full time. In
1972, he and his wife quit their
trucking business. At that time
Christina began driving school
bus and Arlin switched to
driving a U.S. Mail truck,
hauling first class mail out of
the Postal Service Bulk Mail
Center in Minneapolis, Minn. His
route ran seven days per week
for the next 13 years, covering
800 miles roundtrip from the
Twin Cities to Omaha and back.
Arlin’s dedication to the
trucking profession carried him
on journeys of more than 100,000
miles averaged per year between
1942 and 1985. Arlin retired in
1985. He continued to remain
very active working on cars,
trucks, and lawn mowers at the
couple’s home in Klemme. Even in
the last few weeks of his life
he could still be found
tinkering and fixing lawn
mowers.
Arlin will be remembered by his
family and friends for his warm
and uncanny sense of humor.
Always ready to share a joke
with his family and friends. His
grandkids will remember their
annual Christmas allowances from
Grandpa Ole, the joy he received
from teasing them and being
teased in return, and for his
unending supply of peppermint
candies. His wife and children
will remember him as a
wonderful, warm, and hardworking
spouse and dad. Many farmers who
he hauled livestock for over the
years will remember Arlin’s
special and very efficient
technique of allowing the
livestock to load their own way
onto the truck while he and the
farmers visited over a cup of
coffee.
In recent years, Arlin looked
forward to the daily visits to
the Klemme School for senior
dining and fellowship with
friends.
Those left to cherish the memory
of his life include his wife,
Christina Olsen, a resident of
the Belmond Health Care Center;
his sons, Merlyn Olson and wife,
Audrey, Santa Maria, Calif.,
Harland Olsen and wife, Janet,
Mason City, and Randy Olsen and
wife Monica, Garner; his
daughter, Corrine (Susie) Olsen,
Klemme; and daughter-in-law,
Linda Olsen, Ventura; nine
grandchildren: Doni and husband,
Bill Schaefer, Denette Olson,
Deanne and husband, Mike Luis,
Greg and wife, Kim Olson, Ryan
and wife, Tina Olsen, Shannon
and husband, Gary Graves, Jim
Olsen and Jenn Olsen; 16
great-grandchildren: Will, Sarah
and Evan Schaefer, Lane, Levi
and Aubrey Luis, Jacob, Daniel
and Nicole Olson, Zachary and
Caitlin Olson, Riley and Wyatt
Olsen, Alex and Bailey Graves,
and Arlin was anxiously
anticipating the arrival of
“Baby Graves.”
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Knute and Aleta;
sisters, Gladys Bier, and
Mildred Van Laere; and his son,
Roger, on March 4, 1997; also an
infant brother and sister.

the track team. She was a
member of St. Paul Catholic
Church. A recipient of the WFIE
Scholarship, she attended Purdue
University, where she was a
member of the Forensics Science
Club. Her major was
psychology with minors in
organizational leadership and
forensic science.
A highly motivated individual
who lived life to the fullest,
Taryn never wanted to be the
center of attention and wanted
to be known as the person she
was, not as a heart transplant
recipient. She visited future
recipients to encourage them to
realize their possibilities in
life were endless and that she
was an example of that.
Taryn enjoyed spending time with
children, especially teaching
gymnastics, and aspired to have
her own gymnastics studio
someday. She had coached
gymnastics in Danville, Ill.,
and was presently coaching
gymnastics at Malone’s
Gymnastics in Lafayette. She
also was an assistant coach of
gymnastics of the McCutcheon
Mavericks. She had also worked
at Wet Seal in Lafayette. She
was very fond of her three
Yorkshire Terriers: Julio,
Peanut and Taro.
Taryn dated Brandon Long of
Indianapolis for almost eight
years. Brandon’s plans were to
surprise her with a marriage
proposal during her commencement
exercises next spring.
In addition to Brandon, Taryn is
survived by her parents, Dale
and Pat (Parker) Harpenau, Tell
City, Ind.; a brother, Travis
Harpenau of Mason City, Iowa;
grandparents; great-grandmother;
aunts, uncles and many cousins.

grandfather, Wilbur “Wib”
Parker.

Arlin C. Olsen
KLEMME — Arlin C. Olsen, 89, a
longtime resident of Klemme and
native of Clear lake, died
Friday, (Aug. 26, 2005) at the
Belmond Medical Center in
Belmond.
Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m. today at Klemme
United Methodist Church. The
Rev. Paddy Druhl will be
officiating. Burial will be in
the Ell Township Cemetery,
Klemme.
Visitation will be for one hour
prior to the services today at
the church.
The family suggests memorials to
the donor’s wishes.
Arlin, the son of Knute and
Aleta (Rear) Olson was born June
9, 1916 on his parents’ farm in
rural Clear Lake. He attended
Eden Country School and Union
No. 2.
Arlin, or “Ole” as many people
knew him, began his lifelong
love and devotion to trucking in
his youth. By age 11 he had
built his first truck using a
Model T car frame and used the
gas tank he installed on the
frame as his seat. He later
graduated to a 1938 Ford truck
which he used to haul hogs for
area farmers to Mason City. As
the years went by he made
countless trips all over regions
of Iowa and to St. Paul, Minn.
Arlin was united in marriage to
Christina Schwartz on July 6,
1946, at the Little Brown
Church, Nashua, Iowa. Their
partnership of nearly 60 years
was blessed with four sons,
Merlyn, Harland, Randy, and
Roger, and one daughter Corrine
(Susie) Olsen. Roger preceded
Arlin in death.
Following their marriage, they
resided south of Clear Lake for
a time and later moved to
Klemme.
Over the years much of Arlin’s
trucking was done at night so
that he could do farm work
during the days. He did custom
combining from 1944-1949, in
addition to his trucking, and
when he was too busy to drive
truck Christina would fill that
role.
In 1949, he purchased a
semi-tractor and entered the
trucking business full-time. In
1972 he and his wife quit their
trucking business. At that time,
Christina began driving school
bus and Arlin switched to
driving a U.S. Mail truck,
hauling first class mail out of
the Postal Service Bulk Mail
Center in Minneapolis, Minn. His
route ran seven days per week
for the next 13 years covering
800 miles round-trip from the
Twin Cities to Omaha and back.
Arlin’s dedication to the
trucking profession carried him
on journeys of more than 100,000
miles averaged per year between
1942 and 1985. Arlin retired in
1985.
He continued to remain very
active working on cars, trucks,
and lawn mowers at the couple’s
home in Klemme.
Even in the last few weeks of
his life he could still be found
tinkering and fixing lawn
mowers.
Arlin will be remembered by his
family and friends for his warm
and uncanny sense of humor. He
was always ready to share a joke
with his family and friends. His
grandkids will remember their
annual Christmas allowances from
Grandpa Ole, the joy he received
from teasing them and being
teased in return, and for his
unending supply of peppermint
candies.
His wife and children will
remember him as a wonderful,
warm, and hard-working spouse
and dad. Many farmers for whom
he hauled livestock over the
years will remember Arlin’s
special and very efficient
technique of allowing the
livestock to load their own way
onto the truck while he and the
farmers visited over a cup of
coffee.
In recent years, Arlin looked
forward to the daily visits to
the Klemme School for senior
dining and fellowship with
friends.
Those left to cherish the memory
of his life include his wife,
Christina Olsen, a resident of
the Belmond Health Care Center;
his sons, Merlyn Olson and wife,
Audrey, Santa Maria, Calif.,
Harland Olsen and wife, Janet,
Mason City, and Randy Olsen and
wife Monica, Garner; his
daughter Corrine (Susie) Olsen,
Klemme; and daughter-in-law,
Linda Olsen, Ventura; nine
grandchildren, Doni and husband,
Bill Schaefer, Denette Olson,
Deanne and husband, Mike Luis,
Greg and wife, Kim Olson, Ryan
and wife, Tina Olsen, Shannon
and husband, Gary Graves, Jim
Olsen, and Jenn Olsen; 16
great-grandchildren, Will,
Sarah, and Evan Schaefer; Lane,
Levi, and Aubrey Luis; Jacob,
Daniel, and Nicole Olson;
Zachary and Caitlin Olson; Riley
and Wyatt Olsen; Alex and Bailey
Graves; and Arlin was anxiously
anticipating the arrival of
“Baby Graves”. He is also
survived by a brother, Clare
Olson of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Knute and Aleta;
sisters, Gladys Bier, and
Mildred Van Laere; and his son,
Roger, on March 4, 1997; also an
infant brother and sister.
Andrews Funeral Home, Klemme,
