MASON CITY — Graveside services for Sam Argos, 80, of Mason City, will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, 1224 S. Washington, Mason City, with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Sam Argos, 80, of 380 S. Yorktown Pike, died Jan. 12, 2003, in Mason City.

IVA W. FLYNN

MASON CITY — Iva W. Flynn, 76, of 1313 S. Carolina Ave., Mason City, died Friday morning (May 16, 2003) at Trinity Mother Frances Health System in Tyler, Texas, with her daughter, Wanda, at her bedside.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will be in Buffalo Township Cemetery in Titonka.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church.

Those wishing to extend memorials or an expression of sympathy may wish to direct them to Wesley United Methodist Church or their favorite charity.

Iva W. Flynn was born April 23, 1927, in Wesley, to Strother and Sarah (Hill) Wise and was one of 10 children. Upon graduation from Rock Falls High School in 1945, Iva moved to Mason City and began her 45-year career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Iva retired from the company in 1990.

She married Harry Wayne Flynn in 1948. To this union, daughter Wanda Mae Flynn was born.

Iva was a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved in teaching Sunday school, a member of M.Y.F. and served on various committees. She took great pride in her 11 years as the church treasurer.

Iva participated in many community and civic activities, and spent her last years volunteering at the Mason City Chamber of Commerce office.

She truly loved life, worked hard and treasured her relationship with the Lord, her family and her friends.

Iva is survived by her daughter, Wanda Morris and her husband, Johnny, of Lindale, Texas. She will also be sadly missed by her two grandsons, Jason Wiggins and his wife, Colleen, of Scranton, Pa., and John “Coleman” Wiggins of Tyler, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Kyle Morris and Elizabeth Morris, both of Lindale, Texas; two sisters, Bonnie Lease of Iowa Falls and Sarah Price of Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Strother E. Wise of Las Vegas, Nev., and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Iva was eagerly awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild, due to arrive in approximately three weeks to Jason and Colleen Wiggins.

Iva was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and one brother.

ALGONA — Mark A. Goodman, 44, of Algona, died Sunday (May 18, 2003) at home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.

CATHERINE ANN MORTENSEN

BRITT — Catherine Ann Mortensen, 75, of Britt, passed away Sunday (May 18, 2003) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral services for Catherine Mortensen will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will take place in Crystal Lake Cemetery.

Friends may greet the family from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to services at the chapel.

Catherine, the daughter of Howard and Elizabeth Ragen Rose, was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Forest City, Iowa. Catherine graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1945, and then earned her certificate at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Rapids.

On June 12, 1949, Catherine was united in marriage with John H. Mortensen at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Moline, Ill., for a time and later moved back to the farm north of Britt. After returning to Britt, Catherine taught country school for a couple of years.

Catherine enjoyed golfing and being a homemaker, and loved gardening and going for walks.

Catherine is survived by one son, Todd Mortensen and his wife, Betsy, of Britt; one daughter Lisa Greiman and her husband, Mark, of Athol, Idaho; one granddaughter, Morgan Friesth, of Britt; three sisters, Ellen Robbins of Kerrville, Texas, Grace Culhane of Chicago, Ill., and Nancy Buns and her husband, Maurice, of Woden; one brother, Walter Rose and his wife, Marge, of Crystal Lake, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John, in 1997.

DEAN E. WEILAND

BRITT — Dean E. Weiland, 65, of Britt passed away Monday (May 19, 2003) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center St. in Britt, with a 7:30 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Dean Earl Weiland was born on Oct. 14, 1937, at Mason City, Iowa, the son of Clarence Cornelius and Leona Mary (Monson) Weiland. He attended and graduated from Britt High School in 1955.

Following graduation, he farmed for a few years, before entering the United States Army Reserves. He was enlisted for six months.

On July 16, 1962, Dean was united in marriage with Elaine Nedved at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa. The couple made their home in Britt, where they raised their family.

Dean owned a tanker truck and worked for Standard Oil for some time, then became a salesperson for Britt Implement in Britt and later for Wellik-DeWitt Implement in Duncan.

Most recently, Dean had been a driver for Velocity Express based out of Clear Lake, Iowa. He retired in January of 2002.

Dean was a member of the Britt Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years, a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and he loved to fish, golf, garden and play cards.

Family was of great importance to Dean, and he cherished time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was known for his jokes and his sense of humor, and will be long remembered for his endless smile.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elaine, of Britt; four children and their families, Randy and Julene Weiland and their children, Cole and Seth of Britt, John and Cathy Weiland and their children, Kaylee, Logan and Lucas of Britt, Carleen and Steve Fettkether and their children, Hunter and Isaac of Mason City, and Douglas and Jennifer Weiland of Britt; sisters and brothers, Imogene Burgardt and her husband, John, of Britt, Darlene Dunbar of Britt, Lois Conaway and her husband, Charles, of Britt, Diane McKinney and her husband, Roger, of Queen Creek, Ariz., Clarence Weiland and his wife, Bernice, of Storm Lake, and Don Weiland and his wife, Darlene, of Britt; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Leona; a grandson, Stephen Fettkether Jr.; brother, Larry Weiland, and his mother-in-law, Agnes Nedved.

GERALD G. ‘PETE’ BACK

VENTURA — Gerald G. “Pete” Back, 83, of Ventura, died Monday (May 19, 2003) in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors by the Garner VFW.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service time on Friday at the chapel.

The family of Gerald G. “Pete” Back has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of North Iowa in his memory.

Gerald G. “Pete” Back was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Klemme, the son of Chris and Maye (McDorman) Back. He attended and received his education in the rural country school in Hancock County.

During World War II, Pete was one of the first draftees from Hancock County, and served in the Army overseas in the European Theater during World War II.

After his honorable discharge, he came back to North Iowa and farmed his entire life until his retirement. While farming, he also worked construction in Britt and drove truck.

After his retirement, he worked in a sales barn every Monday in Garner, the last being in Algona.

He enjoyed raising Percheron draft horses and using horse-drawn farm equipment, and loved and enjoyed working on his farm and raising animals.

He was a member of Garner VFW.

Survivors include a sister, Opal Mathre, of Mason City; a niece, Julie Montgomery and her husband, Gene, of Mason City; a nephew, Tom Mathre of Oskaloosa; a great-niece and nephew, Darcy Madden of Mason City and Michael Raab and his wife, Kelly, of Littleton, Colo.; two great-great-nephews, Derek Madden of Mason City, and Calvin Raab of Littleton, Colo., and a very special lady friend of 42 years, Luella Marshall, of Clear Lake, as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leo Back; a sister-in-law, Ann Back; a niece, Tammy Mathre, and a brother-in-law, T.H. Mathre.

DOROTHY SMITH

CLEAR LAKE — Dorothy Smith, 82, of 625 14th Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Monday (May 19, 2003) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Her funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 Ninth Ave. S. in Clear Lake, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Interment will follow at Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with a scriptural prayer service at 5:30 p.m.

The family of Dorothy Smith has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.

Dorothy was born July 4, 1920, in Mason City, the daughter of Samuel and Mayme (Koppen) Scholl. She grew up and attended school in Rudd before being united in marriage to Thomas Raymond Smith on Feb. 9, 1937, in Rockford, Iowa.

Dorothy was a loving homemaker and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

She spent many hours crocheting, playing cards and putting puzzles together with her friends at The Meadows.

She loved her cat, “Smokey,” and feeding the birds and squirrels.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Linda Quackenbush, of Ventura; two sons, Tom Smith and his wife, Carolyn, of Rathbun, and Max Smith and his wife, Lori, of Ventura. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Heidi Marzen, Roxanne (Travis) Stohr, Amanda (Shawn) Adams, Tammy Janssen, Cassie Quackenbush, Gary (Kristi) Smith and Chase Smith, and seven great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her sister, Velva Rowe, of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; her son, Gary Rae Smith, and a son-in-law, Terry Quackenbush.

GERTRUDE M. WOMACK

RICEVILLE — Gertrude M. Womack, 84, of Riceville, died Monday (May 19, 2003) at the Riceville Community Rest Home of natural causes.

She was born on May 22, 1918, at Elma, Iowa, to William and Elizabeth (Biwer) Gansen.

On Feb. 19, 1938, she was united in marriage to James Womack in the Immaculate Conception Cathlic Church in Elma. She was a homemaker and retail sales clerk for various businesses in Riceville.

She is survived by her husband, James, of Riceville; one son, James Jr. (and friend, Mike Wilson) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mary (Warren) Wagner of Dysart and Shirley (significant other, Dale Badder) Engelhardt Venz, of St. James City, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, William Gansen, of Lime Springs, and one sister, Ann Leibel, of Venice, Calif.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter; five brothers, Matt, A.B. (Ken), John, Phillip and Lawrence Gansen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville, with a Scripture service at 5:30 p.m.

MARK A. GOODMAN

ALGONA - Funeral services for Mark A. Goodman, 44, of Algona, will be held 2 p.m. on Friday at the St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Father Paul Eisele officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Algona.

Mark Alan Goodman was born on Oct. 8, 1958 in Algona, Iowa, to John and Mary Jean (Hanson) Goodman.

Mark graduated from Garrigan High School in 1976 then attended Glendale Community College in Glendale, Ariz. He later worked construction in Arizona and with small engine repair.

Mark was married to Sandy Jacobsen in Phoenix, Ariz. and the couple moved to Algona in 1989. They were later divorced.

Mark worked for Algona Municipal Utilities as the power plant operator. He was currently engaged to Nancy Nielsen from Mason City.

Mark enjoyed the out-of-doors, spending time on the farm and working with the animals.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, playing golf and taking his father and daughter, Miranda, fishing. He liked fixing lawn mowers then wheeling and dealing when selling them.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing as well as attending races at the Algona Raceway. He also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts football team. He was always willing to help others with his positive attitude and smiling face.

Mark died suddenly at his home in Algona on Sunday (May 18, 2003) at the age of 44.

Survivors include his daugh-ter, Miranda Goodman of Algona; his father, John Goodman, of Algona; fiancée, Nancy Nielsen and her children Aimee, Erin and Megan all of Mason City; brothers, Mike of Algona and Jerrold and wife, Kathy, of Alta, Iowa; sister, Jeanne and husband, Jerry Horton, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandmother, Leola Hanson of Sacramento, Calif.; and ex-wife, Sandra Goodman of Al-gona; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother on May 1, 2003.

MERLE S. KERR

CLEAR LAKE - Merle S. Kerr, 103, of Clear Lake, died Thursday (May 15, 2003) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church Wayside Chapel, 119 S. Georgia Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Douglas Anderson officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Her body will be cremated.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the First United Methodist Church Radio Fund.

Merle Lucille Sanborn was born on a farm west of Lime Springs on Nov. 16, 1899. She was the only child of William "Bill" and Francis (Lean) Sanborn. She grew up in the area going to country school and graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1919.

She married her sweetheart, Herbert Kerr, the day after her graduation. They lived in Milwaukee, Wis., while Herb finished his service in the U.S. Navy before returning to Lime Springs in the fall of 1919 when they bought into a drugstore. Their daughter, Myrna, was born there in 1921.

They remained in Lime Springs until they sold the drugstore in 1927 and moved to Waterloo where a second daughter, Marcia, was born.

In 1930 they moved to Mason City and this is where they remained and put down their roots.

Herb died in 1984 and Merle remained in their home until 1998 when she moved to an apartment in Clear Lake.

Merle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City for 73 years, Mary Martha Church Circle and former member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star.

Merle was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, loved to play bridge and travel, but the most important interest was family and friends.

She outlived all of her contemporaries but made many new younger friends through the years.

Merle is survived by her daughter; Marcia Burke and husband, Bill, of Clear Lake; son-in-law, John Nelson, of Parma Heights, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Craig Nelson and wife, Beth, of Chicago, Ill., Kristine Nelson-Noll and husband, Bob, Nancy Donahue and husband, Bill, of the Cleve-land, Ohio area, Deb Samson and husband, Roger, of Nevada, David Doughman and wife, Beth, of Corvallis, Ore., Sheri Doughman-Larson and husband, Joe, of Minneapolis, Minn., Richard Doughman of Clear Lake; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand-son.

Merle was preceded in death by her husband, Herb; and daughter, Myrna Kerr Nelson.

HAROLD E. HENDRICKSON

ROSWELL, Ga. - Harold E. Hendrickson, 89, of 134 Lakeshore Drive, died Sunday (May 18, 2003) at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at the Cross of Life Lutheran Church in Roswell, Ga., with Pastor Noel Anderson officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Road in Roswell.

Memorials may be directed to the Cross of Life Building Fund, Lutheran Ministries of Georgia or Fragile Children in his memory.

Harold was born on Jan. 20, 1914 in Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.

He retired from Lehigh

Portland Cement Company in Mason City, Iowa, with 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Cross of Life Lutheran Church in Roswell, Ga.

He is survived by his wife, Anna H. Hendrickson, of Roswell, Ga.; one daughter, Mrs. Sybil Smith, of Gowrie, Iowa; one son, Dennis Hendrickson, of Roswell, Ga.; four grandchildren, Dagne Barrett, Shawn Hendrickson, Regina Smith and Brock Smith; and eight great-grandchildren.

CARL O. GIBBS III

MASON CITY — Carl O. Gibbs III, 33, of Mason City passed away Wednesday morning (May 21, 2003) at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services for Carl will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Ron Stein of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Carl O. Gibbs III Memorial Fund.

Visitation for Carl will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Carl was born July 16, 1969, in Des Moines, the son of Carl Gibbs II and June (Foss) Gibbs, and moved to Mason City at a young age.

He graduated from Mason City High School and went on to attend NIACC.

Carl worked for several factories in the Mason City area.

He enjoyed fishing and the Chicago Bears.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Carl and June Gibbs of Mason City; brother, Christopher Gibbs of Mason City; sisters, Helen Holtan and husband, Paul, and their children, Andrew, Nicolas and Miranda, of Savage, Minn., and Carla Dempsey and husband, Terry, and their children, Heidi, Erin, Joshua and Megan of Mason City; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Hulda Ringis of Mason City; fiancee and soul mate, Tammy Koester of Des Moines; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

OLGER E. TENOLD

NORTHWOOD - Olger E. Tenold, 77, of rural Northwood, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at his home.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Tom Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Sion Lutheran Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in Northwood.

According to his wishes, his body will be cremated.

Olger Elmer Tenold was born on Feb. 28, 1926, in Brookfield Township, rural Worth County. He was the son of Elmer and Anna (Kvale) Tenold.

He was baptized and confirmed at Bristol Lutheran Church, rural Joice. He at-tended rural school, graduating from Kensett High School in 1944.

He entered the United States Navy in 1944, where he served two years active duty and four years in the Naval Reserves.

After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1949, he returned and was united in marriage to Gaylis Borchardt on June 26, 1949. They lived and farmed along Tenold Road for 54 years.

He served as Democratic county chairman for Worth County for several years, the Northwood School Board and Sion Lutheran Church Council.

He received Master Pork Producer and Outstanding Young Farmer recognitions.

He enjoyed raising livestock and enjoyed the people who were associated with it.

Olger was a dedicated conservationist his whole life. He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors.

Throughout his life, his family was his greatest joy, sharing the lives of his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Marvin and Reuben; sister Clarice, and sister-in-law Opal Tenold.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gaylis Tenold, of Northwood; two daughters, Kaaren Tenold of Anoka, Minn., Nancy Bein and husband, John, of Bondurant, Iowa; two sons, Russel Tenold and wife, Renate, of Northwood, and John Tenold and wife, Mary, of rural Northwood; brother-in-law, Lawrence Borchardt and wife, Doris, of Cleveland, Minn.; five grandchildren, Sarah and Mike Espinoza of Des Moines, Eric Bein of Bon-durant, Iowa, Rebecca and Jennifer Tenold of rural North-wood, and Gage Tenold of rural Northwood; many nieces and nephews, and loving relatives and friends.

CLEAR LAKE - Juliet L. (Whitney) Bainter, 79, of Clear Lake, died Friday (May 23, 2003) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Juliet's wish was that there be no funeral service, and her body be cremated. A memorial service will be at a later date.

According to her wishes, her body was cremated.

The family of Juliet L. (Whitney) Bainter has request-ed that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of North Iowa in Mason City in her memory.

Juliet L. (Whitney) Bainter was born on March 27, 1924, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Eugene and Ruth (Green) Whitney. She attended and received her education in the Clear Lake school system, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1942.

She was united in marri- age to Jess Vaughn Bainter on Aug. 15, 1942, in Glendale, Calif.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Jess Vaughn Bainter, of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown; a son, Michael V. Bainter and his wife, Nancy, of Pacific Grove, Calif.; a daughter, Lani M. Cook, of Clear Lake, and a son, Whitney J. Bainter, of Lompoc, Calif.; two grandchildren, Rebecca E. Franks and her husband, Dan, of Clear Lake, and Matthew A. Cook of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one great granddaughter, Emma G. Franks of Clear Lake; a sister, Rosemary J. White of Clear Lake, a brother, Jack D. Whitney and his wife, Darllene, of Seal Beach, Calif.; and a sister, Maxigene Duesenberg and her husband, Arlen, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., as well as other relatives and friends.

CEDAR RAPIDS - Meagan Jo Hollingshead, 14, of 2047 Grande Ave. S.E., died Thursday (May 22, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids from injuries sustained in an accident.

Meagan was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Clayton Hollingshead; maternal great-grandfather, James Anderton; maternal great-grandparents, Hugh and Betty Boyington; paternal great-grandparents, Fred and Mae Hollingshead and Edward and Edna Harding.

Meagan was born the daughter of John and Lori Anderton Hollingshead on Oct. 13, 1988, in Clarion. She was a student at McKinley Middle School in Cedar Rapids, where she participated in soccer, track, swimming and chorus. She was a volunteer at Cottage Grove Place.

Meagan loved animals and wanted to become a veterinarian. She was very creative and loved crafts, singing, and giving and shopping for others. Meagan was an amazing young lady, and always thinking of others.

Meagan was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial fund has been established in Meagan's memory.

CLEAR LAKE - Alida M. Kjos, 90, of 100 Bennett Drive, Sheffield, died Monday (May 19, 2003) at the Sheffield Care Center in Sheffield.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. Following the service, the family will visit and share memories at the church.

The family suggests memor-ials may be given in her name.

Alida was born June 28, 1912, in Bluffton Township, rural Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Olaus and Petra (Peterson) Hanson. She grew up in the Decorah area.

Alida married Spencer J. Kjos on Oct. 15, 1932. They later moved to the Sunrise Apartments in Sheffield. She worked at the Sheffield Care Center as a cook.

Soon after her daughter's death, she moved to Clear Lake to be closer to her family.

In December of 1994, she moved to the Sheffield Care Center due to ill health.

She enjoyed baking, doing crafts and was known by her family as a wonderful cook.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake.

She will be sadly missed by her three grandsons, Steve Wells and his wife, Linda, of Clear Lake, Scott Wells and his wife, Carolyn, of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Mick Wells and his wife, Charlotte, of Raleigh, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Josh and Marc Wells, of Clear Lake, and Wade Wells, Dakota Dunes, S.D.; son-in-law, Derwood E. Wells and his wife, Darlene, of Clear Lake; brother-in-law, Clifford Kjos and his wife, Charlotte, of Decorah; and sister-in-law, Ruby Grafwallner, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1984; her daughter, Patricia Wells, in 1985, and brothers and sisters.

LARRY L. OLSON

NORTHWOOD - Larry L. Olson, 62, of Northwood, died Thursday (May 22, 2003) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer and the Rev. Al Stoa officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, North-wood, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Larry was born on Oct.15, 1940, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Clifford and Alice (Hilborn) Olson. He graduated from Northwood High School in 1958.

He married Marjorie Arnold on Aug. 17, 1963, at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. He farmed with his brother in partnership until his health failed.

Larry was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Northwood. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Larry was a die-hard antique tractor buff and was interested in the NASCAR racing season. But the primary love of his life was his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Northwood; one son, Mark Olson, of Lewis-ton, Minn.; one daughter, Dawn Higgins, of Belmond; three grandchildren, Jeremy Anderson, Austin Anderson and Keaton Higgins, and one brother, Keith A. Olson of Northwood.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bonnie Schutz.

Harold was born Sept. 19, 1929, at his home in rural Plymouth to Joseph and Marie (Towne) Gasteiger. He was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City and later graduated from Plymouth High School.

Harold was united in marriage to Una Mae Anderson in 1950 in Forest City. He farmed most of his life in the North Iowa area. When not working, Harold enjoyed spending time at home with his family.

Harold is survived by his wife, Una Mae, of rural Plymouth; three sons and their spouses, Gene and Florita Gasteiger of Vallejo, Calif., Ron and Diane Gasteiger of St. Ansgar, and Don and Mary Gasteiger of Marietta, Calif.; one daughter and her husband, Melinda and Brian Elliott of Sultan, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Genesis, Justin and his wife, Jamie, Stacy and her husband, Luke, Jared and his wife, Jessie, Autumn, Cathy, Rayna, Kala, Sapana, Caleb, Rachel and Grace Marie; seven great-grandchildren, Jewell, Jessa, Jade, Ella Mae, Faith, Casey and May; two sisters, Alvera Hanson and Alberta Dicken, and family members, Diane and Dennis Walsh and their children, Brian and Laura.

Marilyn worked as a proofreader for the Mason City Globe Gazette following her graduation from high school.

Marilyn's greatest joy was spending time with her niece and nephew. She enjoyed visiting with her many friends and neighbors.

Marilyn is survived by her two sisters, Margaret McLaughlin and her husband, Bill, Des Moines, and Patricia VanAltvorst, Minneapolis, Minn.; a niece, Ann McLaughlin, Des Moines, and nephew, Mark McLaughlin, Chicago, Ill.
