EDWARD EUGENE WESTOVER

MOBERLY, Mo. — Edward Eugene Westover, 78, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday (May 10, 2003) at his residence in Moberly, Mo.

Parker Funeral Service & Crematory, 22 N. 10th St. in Columbia, Mo., is in charge of the cremation. There will be no services.

Ed or Gene, we never knew which name to call him. When he farmed and worked at the sugar beet plant he was known as Gene.

When he worked at Winnebago Industries and IMT he was known as Ed.

But to the family he was known as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In our eyes he achieved raising us with many interests from hunting, trail riding, to putting up with 4-H projects with his children and grandchildren.

His most enjoyment was his woodworking projects: especially the buggy seats of which more than one has made it to different states. So, if you see a buggy seat, then possibly you will see a small piece of what he enjoyed doing the most in his retirement years.

His body will be cremated and no services will be performed as were his wishes. He wanted people to remember him as he was.

JEAN STRICKLAND SAVAGE

MASON CITY — Jean Strickland Savage was born May 2, 1921. She died May 8, 2003.

She was married to two good men: Kenet Pearce, father of her four children, and Leonard J. Savage, father of her beginning to think.

But she was happiest with her final partner, James B. “Pete” Conroy, father of her listening and talking back (sometimes).

Jean’s sisters are Anne Cameron of Mason City and Mary Kimball of Piedmont, Calif. They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Strickland, longtime Mason City and Clear Lake fans.

Jean was an editor, a good one. Jean’s formal education was a B.A. degree at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., in 1942. She started book editing in California, continued freelancing in Washington, D.C., and ended up reading every word the Heritage Foundation published for many years to be sure it said exactly what was intended.

In 1989, Jean and Pete retired to nine idyllic years on the shores of the Rappahannock River in Virginia, during which time Jean renewed her lifelong love affair with duplicate bridge. They took two marvelous freighter trips, one down the east coast of South America and the other across the Atlantic and through the Mediterranean Sea. In 1999, Jean and Pete returned to live in Mason City.

Jean’s children are Anne Selman, a gifted kindergarten teacher, wife of Robert Selman and mother of Matthew and Jesse; Susan Pearce, a lawyer and longtime companion of Kurt Muellenberg; Bill Pearce, a carpenter and builder, father of Jean Marie and Hannah; and John Kenet Pearce, entrepreneur and founder of MediaMap, husband of Kath and father of Emily.

A cradle Episcopalian, Jean was disappointed in the turn toward liberality and secularzation taken by her church, but her faith remained strong throughout the years.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Gifts in Jean’s memory can be made to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second St. S.E., Mason City, IA 50401.

EDWARD EUGENE WESTOVER

MOBERLY, Mo. — Edward Eugene Westover, 78, formerly from Clear Lake, died on Saturday (May 10, 2003) at his home in Moberly, Mo.

Mr. Westover was born on Dec. 13,1924, at Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Edward E. and Geneva (Bisgrove) Westover.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946.

In 1947, he married Maxine Prescott and she survives at the home in Moberly, Mo.

Mr. Westover farmed and worked in Iowa until his retirement and moved to Clark, Mo., at that time.

Survivors include a son, Larry Westover of Clear Lake, Iowa; two daughters, Judy Anderson and husband, David, of Clear Lake, and Sharon Deling and husband Dan of Moberly, Mo.; three grandchildren, Nicole Lyon and husband, Mike of Sherburn, Minn., Travis Anderson, of Clear Lake, and Tanya Deling of Moberly, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Katelyn of Sherburn, Minn., and Amber of Moberly, Mo.; and a sister, Ellen Mae Ouverson of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Garry; two brothers, Glenn and George Westover; and one sister, Gertrude Marion.

Ed or Gene we never knew which name to call him. When he farmed and worked at the sugar beet plant he was known as Gene. When he worked at Winnebago and IMT he was known as Ed. But to the family he was known as a loving and caring husband, father, grand-father, and great grandfather.

In our eyes he achieved raising us with many interests, from hunting, trail riding to putting up with 4-H projects with his children and grandchildren.

His most enjoyment was his wood working projects, especially the buggy seats of which more than one has made it to different states. So if you see a buggy seat, then possibly you will see a small piece of what he enjoyed doing the most in his retirement years.

His body will be cremated and no service will be performed as were his wishes. He wanted people to remember him as he was.
